Hi. Welcome back. 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.70 In music, there are four parts, soprano, tenor, 00:00:02.73\00:00:06.87 actually soprano, alto, tenor, bass. 00:00:06.90\00:00:09.10 And I think I know at least one person 00:00:09.14\00:00:11.61 of each of those categories. 00:00:11.64\00:00:13.78 But today, I have a special friend 00:00:13.81\00:00:15.44 whose name is Jeff Pearls, 00:00:15.48\00:00:16.88 he's the bass singer, the low voice. 00:00:16.91\00:00:19.25 And low voices used to scare me, 00:00:19.28\00:00:21.72 but I grew up and got over it. 00:00:21.75\00:00:23.89 I want to talk to Jeff and see what he thinks about music. 00:00:23.92\00:00:26.99 And let's see if he's on the line, 00:00:27.02\00:00:28.46 all right? 00:00:28.49\00:00:29.82 Jeff Pearls. 00:00:29.86\00:00:31.19 Hey, Tim, how are you today? Hey, I'm doing great. 00:00:31.23\00:00:33.43 And you're looking great. Good to see you. 00:00:33.46\00:00:35.76 Good to see you, too. It's been a while. 00:00:35.80\00:00:37.70 Yeah, it has. Now you live in Nashville area? 00:00:37.73\00:00:41.40 Yes. Nashville, Tennessee. Great. 00:00:41.44\00:00:42.94 And you are the bass singer 00:00:42.97\00:00:44.67 for the King's Heralds, correct? 00:00:44.71\00:00:46.61 Yes, that's true. Awesome. 00:00:46.64\00:00:47.98 And you travel nationwide, worldwide. 00:00:48.01\00:00:51.21 Worldwide. Awesome. 00:00:51.25\00:00:52.71 And how long has there been a group 00:00:52.75\00:00:54.25 and how long have you been with them? 00:00:54.28\00:00:56.02 Well, the group started in 1927. 00:00:56.05\00:00:58.22 So we're starting our 90th year continuous ministry this year, 00:00:58.25\00:01:02.72 celebrating 90 years. 00:01:02.76\00:01:04.09 And I have been with the group starting my 13th year. 00:01:04.13\00:01:07.10 Thirteenth. 00:01:07.13\00:01:08.46 But you're older than 13, so you've been probably 00:01:08.50\00:01:10.37 with some other groups before that? 00:01:10.40\00:01:12.30 That is correct. Yeah, yes. 00:01:12.33\00:01:13.90 I was with the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet 00:01:13.94\00:01:16.67 before King's Heralds, 00:01:16.71\00:01:18.04 before that I was with the Palmetto State Quartet. 00:01:18.07\00:01:19.64 Neat. 00:01:19.67\00:01:21.01 So this is what you do for a living. 00:01:21.04\00:01:23.04 This is it. 00:01:23.08\00:01:24.41 And now I will let the people know 00:01:24.45\00:01:26.01 that as we're taping this, it's in the morning. 00:01:26.05\00:01:29.68 And I know that bass singers love mornings 00:01:29.72\00:01:32.62 because you get that natural resonance 00:01:32.65\00:01:35.39 that only sleep can provide, 00:01:35.42\00:01:38.23 but sometimes sleep deprivation also allows it, 00:01:38.26\00:01:41.23 I don't know how that works. 00:01:41.26\00:01:42.60 That's true, there's a fine line there. 00:01:42.63\00:01:45.67 Well, that's cool. 00:01:45.70\00:01:47.04 Now you have a history of being of ministry, 00:01:47.07\00:01:49.97 your father was a minister, wasn't he? 00:01:50.01\00:01:51.47 Yes, he was. 00:01:51.51\00:01:52.84 He had his own music ministry for many years. 00:01:52.87\00:01:55.04 And we sang together as a family 00:01:55.08\00:01:57.45 while I was growing up. 00:01:57.48\00:01:58.81 So music has always been a part of my life. 00:01:58.85\00:02:02.12 I can't remember a time 00:02:02.15\00:02:03.49 when I wasn't singing or wanting to sing. 00:02:03.52\00:02:06.22 And I can't remember a time 00:02:06.25\00:02:07.89 when I wasn't around music in some way, shape, or form. 00:02:07.92\00:02:10.69 Neat. Well, in fact, 00:02:10.73\00:02:12.06 that kind of leads into this next question, 00:02:12.09\00:02:14.56 what does music really mean to you? 00:02:14.60\00:02:18.40 That's a great question. 00:02:18.43\00:02:20.80 Music is something 00:02:20.84\00:02:23.34 that has always been there in my life, 00:02:23.37\00:02:25.47 as I just stated. 00:02:25.51\00:02:27.21 And music can do wonderful things. 00:02:27.24\00:02:31.21 Music can lift you up when you're feeling down, 00:02:31.25\00:02:34.25 it can make you happy when you're feeling sad. 00:02:34.28\00:02:36.89 It can even make you 00:02:36.92\00:02:38.25 forget about your problems for a while. 00:02:38.29\00:02:39.95 Oh, that's good. 00:02:39.99\00:02:41.32 That's very cool. Yeah. 00:02:41.36\00:02:42.69 And that's one of the things 00:02:42.72\00:02:44.06 that we as the King's Heralds tried to do 00:02:44.09\00:02:48.43 with every audience that we sing to, 00:02:48.46\00:02:50.20 we recognize that each audience is unique, 00:02:50.23\00:02:52.33 and that each member of our audience 00:02:52.37\00:02:54.64 is dealing with something because if you're... 00:02:54.67\00:02:58.51 you know, as I say, 00:02:58.54\00:02:59.87 if you're breathing you are dealing with something. 00:02:59.91\00:03:03.28 And so our job is to just try to bring them 00:03:03.31\00:03:07.35 into the presence of the Lord 00:03:07.38\00:03:08.72 and just make them forget about their problems 00:03:08.75\00:03:11.05 and introduce them to The One that can solve their problems. 00:03:11.09\00:03:14.56 Absolutely. 00:03:14.59\00:03:15.92 That's one of the things I love about gospel music, 00:03:15.96\00:03:17.76 Christian music. Yes. 00:03:17.79\00:03:19.13 Because I can listen to the radio 00:03:19.16\00:03:20.50 and I can listen to secular music. 00:03:20.53\00:03:22.33 And I can... it can take me places. 00:03:22.36\00:03:25.03 But Christian music is the only thing 00:03:25.07\00:03:27.37 that can take me and keep me 00:03:27.40\00:03:29.90 where I need to be and where it's going to... 00:03:29.94\00:03:32.24 I can take it away with me and feel much better 00:03:32.27\00:03:35.44 and it's life-changing for sure. 00:03:35.48\00:03:37.48 That's awesome. Absolutely. 00:03:37.51\00:03:38.85 And you know what, Tim, just a little bit, 00:03:38.88\00:03:42.32 I didn't fully appreciate gospel music 00:03:42.35\00:03:46.55 until I met the Lord 00:03:46.59\00:03:48.42 and had a relationship with Him. 00:03:48.46\00:03:49.82 Yeah. 00:03:49.86\00:03:51.19 Because it's all about Him. 00:03:51.23\00:03:53.06 And if you don't know the one that you're singing about, 00:03:53.09\00:03:56.50 then gospel music will be just another art form to you. 00:03:56.53\00:04:00.27 You're right. You're right. 00:04:00.30\00:04:01.64 And I honestly, 00:04:01.67\00:04:03.57 we both know people who it's a job to them. 00:04:03.61\00:04:07.28 Yes. 00:04:07.31\00:04:08.64 But that's hopefully one day those words will sink in 00:04:08.68\00:04:11.71 and they'll understand 00:04:11.75\00:04:13.15 and make that commitment to Christ for sure. 00:04:13.18\00:04:15.32 And that's what... 00:04:15.35\00:04:16.69 that's what ministry is about, you know, we don't judge them, 00:04:16.72\00:04:20.49 we just, we hope that it connects one day for sure. 00:04:20.52\00:04:23.76 Well, since we both love music 00:04:23.79\00:04:26.83 and since this is a program about music, 00:04:26.86\00:04:29.13 do you have a song that you like? 00:04:29.16\00:04:30.83 A favorite song maybe? 00:04:30.87\00:04:32.67 You know, I think one of the... 00:04:32.70\00:04:34.04 my favorite songs that combines so beautifully 00:04:34.07\00:04:35.87 what we've been talking about 00:04:35.90\00:04:37.24 is the old song, what a friend we have in Jesus. 00:04:37.27\00:04:39.54 Oh, yeah, we love that song. Very special song, yes. 00:04:39.57\00:04:42.44 Can you tell me in any particular reason 00:04:42.48\00:04:44.75 why it's special or just for that fact. 00:04:44.78\00:04:46.18 You know, Tim, 00:04:46.21\00:04:47.55 we all go through periods in our life 00:04:47.58\00:04:48.98 where, you know, maybe we were raised in church, 00:04:49.02\00:04:53.52 maybe we weren't walking, 00:04:53.56\00:04:56.59 there was a phase of our life 00:04:56.62\00:04:57.96 when we weren't walking with the Lord 00:04:57.99\00:04:59.33 as closely as we knew we should. 00:04:59.36\00:05:01.93 But in the back of my mind, 00:05:01.96\00:05:04.10 always this particular song would come to mind 00:05:04.13\00:05:07.30 and it would always remind me 00:05:07.34\00:05:08.80 no matter how far away I got from the Lord 00:05:08.84\00:05:11.17 that He wasn't mad at me. 00:05:11.21\00:05:12.97 He was there with His arms open wide saying, "Come on home". 00:05:13.01\00:05:16.61 Absolutely. 00:05:16.64\00:05:17.98 And, you know, 00:05:18.01\00:05:19.35 it's just one of those songs 00:05:19.38\00:05:20.72 that just has a very special place in my life 00:05:20.75\00:05:23.05 because of some of the things 00:05:23.08\00:05:24.42 that I have experienced and been through 00:05:24.45\00:05:26.42 and God has been there for me 00:05:26.45\00:05:28.32 and has been a true friend as He is to all of us. 00:05:28.36\00:05:31.39 Yeah. That is wonderful. 00:05:31.43\00:05:32.93 That's beautiful, Jeff. Thank you for sharing that. 00:05:32.96\00:05:35.23 And let's sing this. 00:05:35.26\00:05:36.60 Sing along, at home, all right? 00:05:36.63\00:05:37.97 What a friend we have 00:05:47.71\00:05:51.51 In Jesus 00:05:51.55\00:05:56.22 All our sins and grieves to bear 00:05:56.25\00:06:01.16 What a privilege 00:06:04.89\00:06:09.00 To carry 00:06:09.03\00:06:13.20 Everything to God in prayer 00:06:13.23\00:06:17.94 O what peace 00:06:21.48\00:06:24.61 We often forfeit 00:06:24.65\00:06:29.98 O what needless pain we bear 00:06:30.02\00:06:34.99 All because we do not carry 00:06:38.59\00:06:45.43 Everything to God in prayer 00:06:48.44\00:06:52.17 Have we trials and temptations? 00:06:55.94\00:07:01.62 Is there trouble anywhere? 00:07:04.82\00:07:09.26 We should never be 00:07:12.76\00:07:16.73 Discouraged 00:07:16.77\00:07:21.20 Take it to the Lord in prayer 00:07:21.24\00:07:26.34 Can we find a friend 00:07:29.71\00:07:33.88 So faithful 00:07:33.92\00:07:38.29 Who will all our sorrows share? 00:07:38.32\00:07:43.46 Jesus knows 00:07:46.76\00:07:49.86 our every weakness 00:07:49.90\00:07:55.74 Take it to the Lord in prayer 00:07:55.77\00:08:00.54 That was to me... Be safe. 00:08:15.92\00:08:17.26 Have a great day. Keep the faith, brother. 00:08:17.29\00:08:18.63 Thanks. Bye-bye. You too. 00:08:18.66\00:08:20.00 Here's a request for Bernice in Maine. 00:08:20.03\00:08:21.36 We don't hear from Maine very often, 00:08:21.40\00:08:22.73 but here's a wonderful song 00:08:22.76\00:08:24.17 that simply just brags on Jesus. 00:08:24.20\00:08:26.87 He's the lily of the valley. 00:08:26.90\00:08:28.34 I have found a friend in Jesus 00:08:38.15\00:08:41.05 He's everything to me 00:08:41.08\00:08:43.15 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul 00:08:43.18\00:08:48.12 The Lily of the Valley in Him alone I see 00:08:48.16\00:08:53.09 All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole 00:08:53.13\00:08:58.07 In sorrow He's my comfort 00:08:58.10\00:09:00.80 In trouble He's my stay 00:09:00.84\00:09:03.00 He tells me every care on Him to roll 00:09:03.04\00:09:07.88 He's the Lily of the Valley 00:09:07.91\00:09:10.58 The Bright and Morning Star 00:09:10.61\00:09:12.81 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul 00:09:12.85\00:09:17.62 Hallelujah 00:09:45.48\00:09:46.82 He's the Lily of the Valley 00:09:46.85\00:09:49.52 The Bright and Morning Star 00:09:49.55\00:09:51.72 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul 00:09:51.75\00:09:56.62 He will never, never leave me 00:09:56.66\00:09:59.49 Nor yet forsake me here 00:09:59.53\00:10:01.60 While I live by faith and do His blessed will 00:10:01.63\00:10:06.70 A wall of fire about me 00:10:06.74\00:10:09.50 I've nothing now to fear 00:10:09.54\00:10:11.57 From His manna He my hungry soul shall fill 00:10:11.61\00:10:16.75 Then sweeping up to glory 00:10:16.78\00:10:19.45 To see His blessed face 00:10:19.48\00:10:21.65 Where rivers of delight shall ever roll 00:10:21.68\00:10:26.55 He's the Lily of the Valley 00:10:26.59\00:10:29.36 The Bright and Morning Star 00:10:29.39\00:10:31.56 He's the fairest of ten thousand to my soul 00:10:31.59\00:10:36.67 He's the fairest 00:10:36.70\00:10:38.03 of ten thousand to my soul 00:10:38.07\00:10:44.64 Once I was straying 00:10:50.75\00:10:56.72 In sin's dark valley 00:10:56.75\00:11:02.02 No hope within 00:11:02.06\00:11:05.26 Could I see 00:11:05.29\00:11:10.57 They searched through heaven 00:11:13.57\00:11:19.81 And found a Savior 00:11:19.84\00:11:25.75 To save a poor lost soul 00:11:25.78\00:11:32.69 Like me 00:11:32.72\00:11:38.33 O what a Savior 00:11:38.36\00:11:45.00 O hallelujah 00:11:45.03\00:11:51.17 His heart was broken 00:11:51.21\00:11:57.35 On Calvary 00:11:57.38\00:12:03.25 His hands were nail scarred 00:12:03.28\00:12:09.29 His side was riven 00:12:09.32\00:12:15.23 He gave His life-blood 00:12:15.26\00:12:21.27 For even me 00:12:21.30\00:12:25.14 Death's chilly water 00:12:28.24\00:12:33.62 I'll soon be crossing 00:12:33.65\00:12:39.79 His hand will lead me 00:12:39.82\00:12:46.23 Safe o'er 00:12:46.26\00:12:51.63 That I'll join the chorus 00:12:51.67\00:12:57.51 In that bright city 00:12:57.54\00:13:03.08 And sing up there 00:13:03.11\00:13:06.88 Forever 00:13:06.92\00:13:10.29 And evermore 00:13:10.32\00:13:15.39 O what a Savior 00:13:15.42\00:13:21.36 O hallelujah 00:13:21.40\00:13:27.24 His heart was broken 00:13:27.27\00:13:33.14 On Calvary 00:13:33.17\00:13:39.01 His hands were nail scarred 00:13:39.05\00:13:45.09 His side was riven 00:13:45.12\00:13:51.16 He gave His life-blood 00:13:51.19\00:13:57.17 For even me 00:13:57.20\00:14:04.11 Send me your song 00:14:17.12\00:14:18.65 Then you sing along with me 00:14:18.69\00:14:23.63 Your Favorites 00:14:27.00\00:14:28.33 By Request La la la 00:14:28.36\00:14:33.13 La la la 00:14:33.17\00:14:37.97
