Hey, you're here. 00:00:23.55\00:00:25.15 Hi, welcome to Your Favorites by Request. 00:00:25.19\00:00:27.49 One of the greatest expressions of our Christian faith 00:00:27.52\00:00:30.03 in my opinion is through vibrant singing 00:00:30.06\00:00:32.23 and meaningful worship, 00:00:32.26\00:00:33.66 songs of testimony, and praise to our God, 00:00:33.70\00:00:36.30 as well as songs reminding us of His love and grace 00:00:36.33\00:00:39.03 and His victory over sin and death. 00:00:39.07\00:00:41.10 As I sing in this program, 00:00:41.14\00:00:42.47 I encourage you to get involved, 00:00:42.50\00:00:43.97 and sing out loud right there where you are 00:00:44.01\00:00:46.31 as we worship the Lord together. 00:00:46.34\00:00:48.74 This week we have request from Maxine in Ohio, 00:00:48.78\00:00:51.48 Marjorie from northwest corner of Kansas, 00:00:51.51\00:00:53.98 Sandra in Tampa, Florida. 00:00:54.02\00:00:55.72 And then from across the pond, Hazel in Croydon, London. 00:00:55.75\00:00:59.55 But first I want to start with a song 00:00:59.59\00:01:01.86 whose melody was written 00:01:01.89\00:01:03.22 by a music teacher in Harstelle, Alabama in 1887. 00:01:03.26\00:01:07.30 Mr. AJ Showalter 00:01:07.33\00:01:08.73 was writing letters of condolence 00:01:08.76\00:01:10.17 to a couple of his students 00:01:10.20\00:01:11.53 whose spouses had recently passed. 00:01:11.57\00:01:13.23 When Deuteronomy 33:27 came to his mind, 00:01:13.27\00:01:16.71 "The eternal God is your refuge, 00:01:16.74\00:01:18.77 and underneath are the everlasting arms." 00:01:18.81\00:01:21.98 Mr. Showalter then wrote a letter 00:01:22.01\00:01:23.71 to his friend and lyricist, Elisha Hoffman, 00:01:23.75\00:01:26.35 a Pennsylvania hymn writer 00:01:26.38\00:01:27.98 who quickly responded with three verses 00:01:28.02\00:01:30.25 and a song was born. 00:01:30.29\00:01:31.85 A song that reminds us 00:01:31.89\00:01:33.42 that with God's arms beneath us and His love surrounding us, 00:01:33.46\00:01:36.79 we can find strength and peace 00:01:36.83\00:01:38.69 in even the most sorrowful situations. 00:01:38.73\00:01:41.50 What a fellowship What a joy divine 00:01:48.00\00:01:52.47 Leaning on the everlasting arms 00:01:52.51\00:01:56.91 What a blessedness What a peace is mine 00:01:56.95\00:02:01.28 Leaning on the everlasting arms 00:02:01.32\00:02:05.75 Leaning, leaning 00:02:05.79\00:02:10.06 Safe and secure from all alarms 00:02:10.09\00:02:14.40 Leaning, leaning 00:02:14.43\00:02:18.73 Leaning on the everlasting arms 00:02:18.77\00:02:23.94 Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way 00:02:23.97\00:02:28.18 Leaning on the everlasting arms 00:02:28.21\00:02:32.35 Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day 00:02:32.38\00:02:36.82 Leaning on the everlasting arms 00:02:36.85\00:02:41.02 Leaning, leaning 00:02:41.06\00:02:45.09 Safe and secure from all alarms 00:02:45.13\00:02:49.43 Leaning, leaning 00:02:49.46\00:02:53.30 I'm leaning on the everlasting arms 00:02:53.34\00:02:58.64 What have I to dread, what have I to fear 00:03:03.11\00:03:07.48 Leaning on the everlasting arms? 00:03:07.52\00:03:11.72 I have blessed peace with my Lord so near 00:03:11.75\00:03:16.22 Leaning on the everlasting arms 00:03:16.26\00:03:20.03 So I'm leaning, leaning 00:03:20.06\00:03:24.50 Safe and secure from all alarms 00:03:24.53\00:03:28.84 Leaning and leaning 00:03:28.87\00:03:32.97 Leaning on the everlasting arms 00:03:33.01\00:03:37.18 I'm leaning on the everlasting arms 00:03:37.21\00:03:45.19 In Luke 8:27, 00:03:50.16\00:03:51.76 we read a wonderful story of transformation. 00:03:51.79\00:03:54.50 The Bible says, 00:03:54.53\00:03:55.86 when Jesus stepped out on the land, 00:03:55.90\00:03:57.70 there met Him a certain man from the city 00:03:57.73\00:04:00.24 Who had demons for a long time. 00:04:00.27\00:04:02.30 He wore no clothes nor did he live in a house 00:04:02.34\00:04:04.91 but in the tombs. 00:04:04.94\00:04:06.37 You should read the exchange 00:04:06.41\00:04:07.81 that takes place in the rest of that chapter. 00:04:07.84\00:04:10.61 That the verses that follow at right about verse 35, 00:04:10.65\00:04:14.62 it says, the people went out to see 00:04:14.65\00:04:16.48 what had occurred with this demon possessed man. 00:04:16.52\00:04:19.02 And they came to Jesus and found the man 00:04:19.05\00:04:21.09 from whom the demons had gone out, 00:04:21.12\00:04:23.29 sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed in his right mind. 00:04:23.32\00:04:28.56 Just imagine if you can how that man must have felt 00:04:28.60\00:04:31.93 as we sing this song "Sitting at the Feet of Jesus". 00:04:31.97\00:04:35.20 Sitting at the feet of Jesus 00:04:42.91\00:04:50.42 Oh, what words I hear Him say! 00:04:50.45\00:04:57.36 Happy place, so near, so precious! 00:04:57.39\00:05:04.40 May it find me there each day 00:05:04.43\00:05:11.51 Sitting at the feet of Jesus 00:05:11.54\00:05:18.81 I would look upon the past 00:05:18.85\00:05:25.82 For His love has been so precious 00:05:25.85\00:05:33.03 It has won my heart at last 00:05:33.06\00:05:40.70 Bless me, O my Savior. 00:06:42.73\00:06:44.37 Bless me, O my Savior, bless me 00:06:44.40\00:06:51.61 As I sit low at Thy feet 00:06:51.64\00:06:58.85 Oh, look down in love upon me 00:06:58.88\00:07:06.05 Let me see Thy face so sweet 00:07:06.09\00:07:13.33 Give me, Lord the mind of Jesus 00:07:13.36\00:07:20.67 Keep me holy as He is 00:07:20.70\00:07:28.01 May I prove I've been with Jesus 00:07:28.04\00:07:35.72 Who is all my righteousness 00:07:35.75\00:07:43.63 Here's a beautiful worship song 00:07:52.40\00:07:55.74 that says, "There is no higher calling 00:07:55.77\00:07:58.27 than sitting at the feet of Jesus." 00:07:58.31\00:08:01.91 Down at Your feet, O Lord 00:08:01.94\00:08:07.72 Is the most high place 00:08:07.75\00:08:11.92 In Your presence, Lord 00:08:11.95\00:08:16.19 I seek Your face 00:08:16.22\00:08:20.76 I seek Your face 00:08:20.80\00:08:27.17 Down at Your feet, O Lord 00:08:31.37\00:08:36.85 Is the most high place 00:08:36.88\00:08:41.05 In Your presence, Lord 00:08:41.08\00:08:45.19 We seek Your face 00:08:45.22\00:08:49.49 We seek Your face 00:08:49.52\00:08:55.73 There is no higher calling 00:08:55.76\00:09:00.44 No greater honor than to bow 00:09:00.47\00:09:06.47 And kneel before Your throne 00:09:06.51\00:09:12.18 I am amazed at Your glory 00:09:12.21\00:09:16.79 Embraced by Your mercy 00:09:16.82\00:09:21.19 O Lord, I live to worship You 00:09:21.22\00:09:29.10 Down at Your feet, O Lord 00:09:33.87\00:09:39.51 Is the most high place 00:09:39.54\00:09:43.51 In Your presence, Lord 00:09:43.55\00:09:47.58 We seek Your face 00:09:47.62\00:09:52.05 We seek Your face 00:09:52.09\00:09:57.76 There is no higher calling 00:09:57.79\00:10:03.00 No greater honor than to bow 00:10:03.03\00:10:09.27 And kneel before Your throne 00:10:09.30\00:10:14.31 I'm amazed at Your glory 00:10:14.34\00:10:19.21 Embraced by Your mercy 00:10:19.25\00:10:22.88 O Lord, I live to worship You 00:10:22.92\00:10:29.92 And there is no higher calling 00:10:29.96\00:10:35.16 No greater honor than to bow 00:10:35.20\00:10:40.97 And kneel before Your throne 00:10:41.00\00:10:45.74 I'm amazed at Your glory 00:10:45.77\00:10:50.41 Embraced by Your mercy 00:10:50.45\00:10:54.52 O Lord, I live to worship You 00:10:54.55\00:10:59.65 O Lord 00:11:06.29\00:11:10.07 I live to worship You 00:11:10.10\00:11:17.11 It's no wonder that at the end of that story 00:11:33.12\00:11:35.12 in Luke 8:38, it says, 00:11:35.16\00:11:38.13 "Now the man from whom the demons had departed 00:11:38.16\00:11:40.66 begged Jesus that he might be with Him." 00:11:40.70\00:11:43.73 Here's the hymn request that expresses our desire 00:11:43.77\00:11:46.00 to follow in obedience to Christ 00:11:46.03\00:11:47.77 and, you know, I'll admit that 00:11:47.80\00:11:49.14 there are a lot of songs in the hymnal 00:11:49.17\00:11:50.61 I don't know, even being raised in church. 00:11:50.64\00:11:52.91 But this song was requested 00:11:52.94\00:11:55.41 and I ran to the hymnal to find it 00:11:55.44\00:11:57.75 and found it on page 632 in this hymnal. 00:11:57.78\00:12:00.42 And I love the words so much that I thought, 00:12:00.45\00:12:03.32 I need to learn that and live it. 00:12:03.35\00:12:05.79 So I'm going to turn to 623 really quick and we'll sing, 00:12:05.82\00:12:12.06 "I Will Follow Thee my Savior". 00:12:12.09\00:12:13.90 I will follow Thee, my Savior 00:12:21.44\00:12:25.27 Wheresoe'er my lot may be 00:12:25.31\00:12:29.11 Where Thou goest I will follow 00:12:29.14\00:12:32.88 Yes, my Lord, I'll follow Thee 00:12:32.91\00:12:36.79 I will follow Thee, my Savior 00:12:36.82\00:12:40.76 Thou didst shed Thy blood for me 00:12:40.79\00:12:44.73 And though all men should forsake Thee 00:12:44.76\00:12:48.80 By Thy grace I'll follow Thee 00:12:48.83\00:12:53.00 Though the road be rough and stormy 00:12:53.03\00:12:57.01 Trackless as the foaming sea 00:12:57.04\00:13:00.88 Thou hast trod this way before me 00:13:00.91\00:13:04.81 And I gladly follow Thee 00:13:04.85\00:13:08.82 I will follow Thee, my Savior 00:13:08.85\00:13:12.79 Thou didst shed Thy blood for me 00:13:12.82\00:13:16.83 And though all men should forsake Thee 00:13:16.86\00:13:20.90 By Thy grace I'll follow Thee 00:13:20.93\00:13:25.20 Go ahead and sing the third verse. 00:13:25.23\00:13:26.87 And on the fourth. 00:13:56.36\00:13:59.13 Though I meet with tribulation 00:13:59.17\00:14:02.80 Sorely tempted though I be 00:14:02.84\00:14:06.74 I remember Thou wast tempted 00:14:06.78\00:14:10.61 And rejoice to follow Thee 00:14:10.65\00:14:16.45 Though Thou leadest through afflictions 00:14:16.48\00:14:20.42 Poor, forsaken though I be 00:14:20.46\00:14:24.29 Thou wast destitute, afflicted 00:14:24.33\00:14:28.36 And I only follow Thee. 00:14:28.40\00:14:32.40 I will follow Thee, my Savior 00:14:32.43\00:14:36.50 Thou didst shed Thy blood for me 00:14:36.54\00:14:40.51 And though all men should forsake Thee 00:14:40.54\00:14:44.78 By Thy grace I'll follow Thee 00:14:44.81\00:14:52.29
