and spiritual balance.

Balance between opposing forces.

And you know,
this last 13 months,

I have to admit

even three months
before COVID began,

I lost my equilibrium

between the pain and
injuries and surgeries

and everything
that happened to me.

My equilibrium was shocked,

but God restored my balance.

Let me ask this also,

are you overwhelmed?

Do you feel anxious?

Do you feel that you
are crushed by burdens

and you're grieving a loss?

Perhaps you're angry with God?

Maybe you're not
even sure if He exists

about 1 Corinthians Chapter 15.

I think that's one of
the most powerful chapters

in the whole Bible.

And yet it is one of
the most ignored chapters
00:04:36.00\00:04:39.04
in the whole Bible.

And 1 Corinthians Chapter
15 explains so many things.

But before I can dive into that,

I want to lay a
little groundwork
00:04:49.45\00:04:51.32
for you who have been
in the church a long time.
00:04:51.35\00:04:54.42
This is not an unfamiliar
story that we'll talk about,
00:04:54.46\00:04:59.03
but it's important.
00:04:59.06\00:05:00.70
And please listen, no matter
how many times you've heard it,

listen and see if God
gives you something new.

For those of you who
don't know the story,

this will help explain
1 Corinthians Chapter 15.

You know when God
created the earth,
00:05:16.01\00:05:20.45
He created everything.
00:05:20.48\00:05:21.98
And He says, "Oh, it's good."
00:05:22.02\00:05:24.32
Then he created mankind.
00:05:24.35\00:05:27.46
And He said,
"Oh, it's very good."
00:05:27.49\00:05:31.33
When God created the world.
00:05:31.36\00:05:35.16
When people talk
about the Big Bang theory,
00:05:35.20\00:05:37.03
they ask, do you
believe in the Big Bang theory?
00:05:37.07\00:05:39.73
Yeah, I believe God spoke it
00:05:39.77\00:05:42.67
and bang it was there
00:05:42.70\00:05:44.11
'cause that's what
the Bible tells us.

But when God created Adam,

He didn't speak.

He got down on His
knees and it an intimate act.

He took dust.

He made a clay, He formed man.

Then He breathed into man.

Man was created.

Adam was created
in the image of God.

God is love.

So Adam was created
to be a being of love.

Love cannot be coerced.

Love by definition
must be freely given

and freely received.

So what did our Creator do?

He gave mankind,
humanity free will.

What we think about that
sounds a little risky actually,

but God gave us the choice.

He gave Adam the choice
00:06:49.04\00:06:51.84
to love Him voluntarily,
00:06:51.87\00:06:56.04
to obey Him
00:06:56.08\00:06:58.18
out of a sense
of love and loyalty.
00:06:58.21\00:07:01.48
And with divine self restraint,
00:07:01.52\00:07:04.82
God said,
00:07:04.85\00:07:06.19
"I'm going to restrain myself.
00:07:06.22\00:07:10.06
I'll try to influence you.
00:07:10.09\00:07:11.56
I'll do many
good things for you.
00:07:11.59\00:07:13.43
But this is up to you.

Adam was created
as a mortal being.
00:07:15.80\00:07:20.84
In other words,

he was not
immortal, a mortal being.

He had a lifespan

and what God did was

give him access
to the tree of life.

That's what kept
Adam's life going.

And I know that
Adam was a mortal being

because 1 Timothy 6:16 says,

"God alone has
immortality at this time.
00:07:46.36\00:07:51.87
You and I are
not immortal beings,
00:07:51.90\00:07:54.84
but the God of covenant
love when He created Adam,
00:07:54.87\00:07:59.77
this was God's
first covenant son.
00:07:59.81\00:08:05.01
The Bible
actually says in Luke 3:38,
00:08:05.05\00:08:08.22
Adam, the son of God.
00:08:08.25\00:08:11.69
Now, here's the
interesting thing.

Adam was the
representative of all humanity.
00:08:15.06\00:08:19.49
He was set in the Garden of Eden
00:08:19.53\00:08:22.36
which, did you know
Eden means pleasure.
00:08:22.40\00:08:24.93
God set His creation,
00:08:24.97\00:08:28.40
His creature in a
garden of pleasure.
00:08:28.44\00:08:32.34
God had nothing, but
good in mind for him.
00:08:32.37\00:08:35.68
And when He created him,
00:08:35.71\00:08:37.05
He says, oh,
everything is very good.

Now, in Genesis 2:16,

before Eve was
created, by the way,

God is speaking to
Adam and He commands him.

And He says of
every tree of the garden
00:08:51.49\00:08:54.60
you may freely eat.
00:08:54.63\00:08:56.13
Can you imagine this lush garden
00:08:56.16\00:08:58.20
with all of these
beautiful fruit trees?
00:08:58.23\00:09:01.47
He said,
00:09:01.50\00:09:02.84
"Of every one of
these you may eat,
00:09:02.87\00:09:05.91
but of the tree of the knowledge
00:09:05.94\00:09:09.21
of good and evil,
00:09:09.24\00:09:11.18
you shall not eat."
00:09:11.21\00:09:13.11
Let me just hit
the pause button there.

Why did God give
00:09:16.18\00:09:20.02
Adam this command?
00:09:20.06\00:09:23.49
The tree of the
knowledge of good and evil...

God didn't want
Adam to try to decide

what was good for
himself or what was evil.
00:09:29.13\00:09:32.03
He wanted him to
trust Him to follow Him.
00:09:32.07\00:09:34.97
And this was a test if it were,
00:09:35.00\00:09:37.34
as it were to see
if Adam would be loyal.
00:09:37.37\00:09:41.74
But, so God says,

"Of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil,
00:09:43.14\00:09:44.68
you shall not eat,
00:09:44.71\00:09:46.98
for in the day
that you eat of it,

you shall surely die."

A test of his freewill.
00:09:52.15\00:09:54.36
Now what happens
just very briefly,
00:09:54.39\00:09:57.59
the devil Satan
00:09:57.63\00:10:02.56
is in a creature
now, the serpent,
00:10:02.60\00:10:07.24
and he's in the garden.
00:10:07.27\00:10:09.67
And now Eve's been created,
Eve's looking upon this tree.

And the devil says to her,
00:10:14.41\00:10:16.81
"Did God really say that
00:10:16.85\00:10:18.31
you can't eat of
any of these trees?"
00:10:18.35\00:10:19.91
Well, he's twisting God's word.
00:10:19.95\00:10:22.12
You know, Satan knows Scripture.
00:10:22.15\00:10:25.25
He knows God's Word.
00:10:25.29\00:10:26.82
And what he will do is
00:10:26.86\00:10:29.16
he will twist it
to our destruction.
00:10:29.19\00:10:32.79
He will take Scripture
00:10:32.83\00:10:34.16
and then add just a
little tiny twist to it
00:10:34.20\00:10:37.33
that completely
changes everything.
00:10:37.37\00:10:40.17
Well, his mission is to
get us to doubt God's love,
00:10:40.20\00:10:46.64
to doubt God's Word,
00:10:46.68\00:10:49.08
and to destroy our
relationship with God.
00:10:49.11\00:10:51.98
As a matter of fact,
00:10:52.01\00:10:53.45
the accuser started
this battle in heaven.
00:10:53.48\00:10:57.32
What he did is
00:10:57.35\00:10:58.69
he came before
the heavenly councils
00:10:58.72\00:11:02.16
and he accused
God of being selfish,
00:11:02.19\00:11:05.69
unjust, unloving.
00:11:05.73\00:11:09.46
And you know what?
00:11:09.50\00:11:10.83
This is what's so interesting.
00:11:10.87\00:11:12.20
There was a courtroom drama.
00:11:12.23\00:11:14.30
And some people say,
00:11:14.34\00:11:15.67
"Well, why if
evil began with Satan,
00:11:15.70\00:11:18.31
why didn't God just
cut him out right there?
00:11:18.34\00:11:22.54
Just zap him and
get it over with."
00:11:22.58\00:11:25.18
Well, this was a battle
that God could not do that
00:11:25.21\00:11:30.09
because if He did,
00:11:30.12\00:11:32.55
He couldn't disprove
the slanderous remarks
00:11:32.59\00:11:36.59
that were being
made against Him.
00:11:36.62\00:11:39.09
So He could not settle this case
00:11:39.13\00:11:43.63
by His divine power,
00:11:43.67\00:11:46.43
love to flourish involves trust.
00:11:46.47\00:11:50.41
And God had to see
00:11:50.44\00:11:53.24
that all of His created beings,
00:11:53.27\00:11:56.04
all of the angels and
the beings of other worlds
00:11:56.08\00:11:58.41
would trust Him.
00:11:58.45\00:12:00.05
So what does God do?
00:12:00.08\00:12:02.22
He had to make a
public demonstration
00:12:02.25\00:12:05.79
of His love and His justice.
00:12:05.82\00:12:08.16
So the interesting thing,

Adam and Eve
used their free will.
00:12:10.46\00:12:15.16
I should say
misused their free will
00:12:15.20\00:12:18.27
to reject God.
00:12:18.30\00:12:19.63
Now, Eve was deceived.
00:12:19.67\00:12:21.64
She was deceived by the devil.
00:12:21.67\00:12:24.51
And if hadn't gone
any farther than Eve,

we really
wouldn't be in trouble.
00:12:27.31\00:12:29.64
But Adam was the
representative of humanity.
00:12:29.68\00:12:34.98
And as the
representative of humanity,

he chose not
just in a moral lapse,

but he chose to
reject God's command,

probably because he
wanted to hang on to Eve.

He deliberately
turned away from God.
00:12:53.84\00:12:56.47
And what happened?

A cosmic conflict began,

the conflict over love
00:13:01.71\00:13:04.38
and God's government
of self sacrificing love.

So this conflict
is introduced on earth

and Adam,
basically God had given Adam

authority to
rule over the earth.
00:13:15.76\00:13:18.36
But when Adam
chose to follow Satan,

he handed that
authority over to Satan.

Now it's temporary.

It's for a set period of time.

And I don't say that
I understand everything,

but God has to let it play out
to prove His character of love.

And God to do that

had to confine
Himself if you will,

restrain Himself.

There's rules of engagement.
00:13:47.52\00:13:50.09
He had to let evil
play out to a certain point

and voluntarily restrain Himself

and His divine
power to intervene.
00:14:01.07\00:14:04.11
Now God could have
withdrawn His love.
00:14:04.14\00:14:08.34
He could have just
let man die in the garden,

or He could have ignored the sin
00:14:13.21\00:14:16.52
and let them continue
to access the tree of life.
00:14:16.55\00:14:20.06
And then sin would
continue going forward,

but He didn't
leave sin unchecked.

He banished the
mortals from the tree of life

and they would die.

But here's the good news.

God hits the reset button.

It's a plan

that He had before the
foundations of the world,

but it shows us

that God will win this
cosmic conflict over love.

He's speaking to the serpent,

to the tempter

that's disguised as a serpent.

He says,

"I will put enmity,
00:15:00.23\00:15:01.56
a hatred between
you and the woman,
00:15:01.60\00:15:04.77
and between your
seed and her seed.
00:15:04.80\00:15:09.60
He shall bruise your
head, the Seed of the woman, "

which is a capital S "He,"
00:15:13.61\00:15:18.21
God tells the serpent

"will bruise your head.

You will bruise his heel."

The Seed of the woman,
it was not seed of a man.

God would father this child.

And that's what's seed means
is He's talking about a child

that He is promising,

but this seed

is going to become a man.

the everlasting gospel.

about becoming a man

our substitute sacrifice,

And He would win this
cosmic conflict of love.

But now what happens?

Adam procreates
in his own image.

Adam lived 130 years

and he begot a son
in his own likeness

after his image.

And he named him Seth.

Sin's entrance brought
00:16:27.45\00:16:30.12
about a sinful or a
fallen nature in all.

Through Adam,

all humanity
inherit this fallen nature.

And we have a
propensity towards sin

and sin negatively affects
our desires and our actions.

Here's Adam,

the representative
of the whole human race

and he brings
sin into the world,

into his lineage.

And he brings in
physical death and decay,

spiritual death and
spiritual slavery to sin

because Jesus said,

"All who sin
are a slave to sin."

So what was the penalty?

What is the penalty for sin?

God said,

"In the day you eat of
it, you shall surely die."

Ezekiel 18:20.
00:17:28.71\00:17:30.71
Ezekiel 18:20 says this,

"The soul who sins shall die.
00:17:33.01\00:17:34.85
The son shall not bear
the guilt of the father,

nor the father bear
the guilt of the son.
00:17:37.02\00:17:39.52
The
righteousness of the righteous
00:17:39.55\00:17:41.82
shall be upon himself.
00:17:41.86\00:17:43.86
And the wickedness of the wicked

shall be upon himself.

But the soul
who sins shall die."

We know Romans,

Paul wrote to
the Romans in 3:23,

he says,

"Hey, we're all sinners.

All of us have fallen
short of the glory of God."

And then in Romans 6:23,

he reiterates in
the New Testament

that the wages of sin is death.
00:18:07.58\00:18:12.12
Do you realize that
00:18:12.15\00:18:13.82
if we had to pay
our own penalty for sin,
00:18:13.86\00:18:17.29
we would suffer
the second death,
00:18:17.33\00:18:20.90
that Revelation
speaks up four times
00:18:20.93\00:18:22.96
and we're going to
look at in just a moment,

the second eternal death.

So how does God
reverse this situation

and rescue us?

How does he rescue
us from that penalty?

He hits the reset button
and provides a new beginning.

his own love toward us

and that while we
were still sinners,

Christ died for us.

God became a man."

I don't know about you.

But to me, that's
a greater sacrifice

than the sacrifice
He made on the cross.
