And as I look more carefully,

And as he got really close,

I noticed the
condition in New Guinea,

It's the skin condition
where the skin is flaking

like a snake skin.

It's horrible to look at.

So here's a man
whose body is flaking

from top to bottom,

he has no feet and no hands

and he appears to be
from what I can observe

unduly excite
of about something.

And he is shouting
out and fortunately for me

I had already
learned Pidgin English.

So I could at least
hear what he was saying.

He is saying, are you the man?

And every thing in me saying,

This is you are the one,

keeps coming toward me,

of great shame here

I stood there

As this leper,

his arms out like this

reached out those two stumps

and I stood there like this,

incapable of moving.

I'm very shame to
what happened then.

And he is so
excited, he burst into tears,

and through his
tears I hear him saying,

this is the first time

I have felt another
human touch in 40 years.

And I am not touching
him, he is touching me.

piece of human
flesh with no feet,

with no arms and he
doubled his weeping,

as he felt my
arms go around him.

And at that moment
the joy of the Lord

flowed in to my soul

and I repented of the fact

that I could
stand there like this

needy of human beings

all he needed was a hug,

to feel the warmth of
human love and fellowship.

And so my repentance was deep.

It was tested shortly afterwards

when 150 lepers
lined up for their hug.

I spent like a
whole hour just hugging.

I couldn't wait to get
back to the mission station

and jump in to the bath,
and lather myself whole over.

But then each
week it got easier,

and I began to realize
that God in His infinite wisdom

even though Jesus
thought it not robbery

to be equal with God

He took up on
Himself the form of a servant

and became all
things to all men,

and that I was privileged
to walk in His foot steps.

felt like human hug

their entire lives.

you the healing was mine.

experienced great healing

and they on the other hand
were filled with great joy.

discoloration on my skin,

Everybody avoided

it should not surprise you

encounter with the leper

begins with the
incredible statement,

"a leper came to Him."

So, first point this morning,

and I'd like to remind you

that Jesus was seen by
the lowest levels of society

and the most
un-cleaned members of society.

Jesus was
viewed as approachable.

Even a leper felt free

to come into the
presence of Jesus

because by now it was understood

that Jesus was not in
the condemning business.

the shunning business.

Jesus was simply approachable,
because He loved the unlovely
