Okay guys, the plan this morning is 00:00:35.10\00:00:37.01 we're going to get our summit packs, 00:00:37.02\00:00:40.40 our running gear. We got up at 5'o clock 00:00:40.41\00:00:43.88 already this morning, so we're bright eyed 00:00:43.89\00:00:46.35 bushy tailed here and ready to do this thing 00:00:46.36\00:00:49.53 and so the idea of course is to summit 00:00:49.54\00:00:53.63 three peaks in the short time if possible. 00:00:53.64\00:00:56.05 All of you have given estimated time for 00:00:56.06\00:00:59.08 what your group can do this, hike it. 00:00:59.09\00:01:01.43 I think my group is gonna shoot for under eight 00:01:01.44\00:01:04.80 and half hours and then some of the other 00:01:04.81\00:01:07.71 groups might want to pick the different time. 00:01:07.72\00:01:10.28 So ready to get over here, we'll have worship 00:01:10.29\00:01:13.15 and then we will get started. 00:01:13.16\00:01:16.28 We've got our radios, we've got our medical 00:01:16.29\00:01:18.39 kits and we are all like thinking how hard is 00:01:18.40\00:01:22.79 this gonna be. How easy is it gonna be, 00:01:22.80\00:01:25.10 well it's gonna be as hard or as easy 00:01:25.11\00:01:27.40 as we make it. The first team we're gonna 00:01:27.41\00:01:29.63 make it really hard because we want to get 00:01:29.64\00:01:32.87 this thing done in under eight and half hours. 00:01:32.88\00:01:36.01 So this is the first leg, the first event of the 00:01:36.02\00:01:39.78 adventure race. Are you guys ready for it? Yes. 00:01:39.79\00:01:43.22 You begin stomp your feet, can you put one 00:01:43.23\00:01:45.74 foot in front of the other for nine hours? Yeah. 00:01:45.75\00:01:49.63 No! Right on! You guys are pioneers, 00:01:49.64\00:01:52.92 the very first to ever do the annual 00:01:52.93\00:01:56.86 adventure race. People are going to come 00:01:56.87\00:02:00.35 in your foot steps. They're gonna trying 00:02:00.36\00:02:02.10 out do you; they're gonna trying out do 00:02:02.11\00:02:04.55 themselves, they're gonna try to do the best ever 00:02:04.56\00:02:07.38 and it's all the personal thing. Each one of us 00:02:07.39\00:02:10.78 are trying to do better than we can do not better 00:02:10.79\00:02:13.84 than the other guy can do. If need be we're 00:02:13.85\00:02:16.34 gonna help the other guy because that's the best 00:02:16.35\00:02:18.91 we can do to help one another. 00:02:18.92\00:02:20.80 Okay, let's go do it. 00:02:21.60\00:02:23.06 Recently Dr. Duehrssen and Mark Foster and 00:02:38.61\00:02:41.73 myself have put together an outdoor ministry 00:02:41.74\00:02:45.20 we call Wilderness Way Adventures. 00:02:45.21\00:02:47.36 We use survival training and search 00:02:47.37\00:02:50.36 and rescue training to help young people make; 00:02:50.37\00:02:52.68 you know life long decisions for the Lord. 00:02:52.69\00:02:55.39 My name is Mike Duehrssen, 00:02:55.60\00:02:57.06 I am one of the directors for Wilderness 00:02:57.07\00:02:59.08 Way Adventures and I direct in a small trauma 00:02:59.09\00:03:01.51 centre and I do also lot of pre-hospital work. 00:03:01.52\00:03:05.30 We work with a task force of this technical rescue, 00:03:05.31\00:03:08.58 now I work as a firefighter and 00:03:08.59\00:03:11.39 I work a lot with EMS, to do a lot of 00:03:11.40\00:03:13.13 wilderness medicine. So Mike and I are kind 00:03:13.14\00:03:15.37 of thinking how can he put his pastorial 00:03:15.38\00:03:18.00 and survival skills together with my 00:03:18.01\00:03:20.34 pre-hospital and hospital and physician 00:03:20.35\00:03:24.32 type skills. And so we came up with Wilderness 00:03:24.33\00:03:27.56 Way Adventures in which we take youth out 00:03:27.57\00:03:30.34 to the Wilderness, we teach them low to high 00:03:30.35\00:03:32.34 angle rescue. We teach them swift water rescue 00:03:32.35\00:03:35.41 and later we will be developing more trench 00:03:35.42\00:03:37.41 rescue and then Mike teaches them survival, 00:03:37.42\00:03:40.81 all different aspects of survival. 00:03:40.82\00:03:42.80 My name is Mark Foster, 00:03:42.81\00:03:44.18 I am a physician assistant. 00:03:44.19\00:03:45.60 I met Michael Duehrssen about seven years ago 00:03:45.61\00:03:48.91 and to my college experience in P.A training 00:03:48.92\00:03:51.57 I got to spend a lot of time with him in 00:03:51.58\00:03:54.22 emergency room during clinical skills training 00:03:54.23\00:03:57.34 and then I met Mike when I was doing my clinicals 00:03:57.35\00:04:00.90 in Cortez, Colorado. And the three of us 00:04:00.91\00:04:03.52 just really had a lot of interests that were 00:04:03.53\00:04:06.71 similar and we were involved 00:04:06.72\00:04:09.99 in search and rescue training. 00:04:10.00\00:04:11.68 And our biggest emphasis is trying to get these 00:04:12.89\00:04:14.95 youth to have a walk with Jesus Christ and 00:04:14.96\00:04:17.89 so we have a lot of worships and I think 00:04:17.90\00:04:20.88 when the kids leave our program, 00:04:20.89\00:04:22.45 they are really inspired for Jesus 00:04:22.46\00:04:24.80 into go out and tell others about Him. 00:04:24.81\00:04:26.72 As a teenager and through my college experience 00:04:26.73\00:04:29.27 I really yearned for a program like this. 00:04:29.28\00:04:33.10 It's so exciting to be able to see the excitement 00:04:33.11\00:04:37.15 on the kids base and the experience that they're 00:04:37.16\00:04:40.82 having through those places that they tried 00:04:40.83\00:04:43.91 never heard of that's really in our own backyard. 00:04:43.92\00:04:46.50 And then it's very rewarding to at the 00:04:46.51\00:04:49.96 end of the program to hear the students' comments 00:04:49.97\00:04:53.37 and their experience and their excitements 00:04:53.38\00:04:58.43 that there is within the Adventist community a 00:04:58.44\00:05:03.79 place that they can experience these 00:05:03.80\00:05:05.63 wonderful things and have this much 00:05:05.64\00:05:07.58 fun with the focus on Jesus Christ. 00:05:07.59\00:05:11.52 This program is the first episode in a 00:05:15.01\00:05:17.34 four part adventure race series. 00:05:17.35\00:05:19.59 There are three teams, each with four members 00:05:19.60\00:05:22.52 who will during the next 72 hours climb 00:05:22.53\00:05:25.32 three peaks, raft 7 miles, hike a slot Canyon 00:05:25.33\00:05:29.14 and bike 12.7 miles of Slickrock. 00:05:29.15\00:05:32.01 This adventure race takes place in 00:05:32.02\00:05:34.00 Southern Utah near the town of Moab. 00:05:34.01\00:05:36.65 Looks good to me and we've discussed this 00:05:37.66\00:05:40.79 yesterday is to drop downhill over here, 00:05:40.80\00:05:45.12 cross over then come up on the left-hand side 00:05:45.13\00:05:49.53 of that rock side over there on the tree line 00:05:49.54\00:05:52.03 and gain this ridge come up here, go up 00:05:52.04\00:05:54.77 over the falls peak. We'll come up here 00:05:54.78\00:05:57.94 to Mount Peale then we have to backtrack a bit, 00:05:57.95\00:06:01.62 come across these saddles and peaks. 00:06:01.63\00:06:04.03 Go around this particular peak here, 00:06:04.04\00:06:06.11 then we'll get up on Mellenthin. 00:06:06.12\00:06:08.56 Drop back down and follow this ridge 00:06:08.57\00:06:11.55 line along here, the we'll drop through this draw 00:06:11.56\00:06:15.69 down to that valley that meadow where we were 00:06:15.70\00:06:18.15 practicing fires yesterday, then we can just right 00:06:18.16\00:06:20.87 back here to the trucks. And I got a feeling that 00:06:20.88\00:06:24.28 unless we get slow down by lightening, 00:06:24.29\00:06:27.40 we have to hunker down for a bit. 00:06:27.41\00:06:30.03 I got a feeling that we're gonna be all 00:06:30.04\00:06:31.41 to do this thing in under 9 hours. 00:06:31.42\00:06:33.84 What's our goal here? Guys wanna shoe for 00:06:33.85\00:06:36.17 8 ½? 13 hours, we can make that. 00:06:36.18\00:06:39.29 That's more, 15. Let's see, who's this group 00:06:39.30\00:06:43.59 1 now or I can't remember. Right. 00:06:43.60\00:06:46.59 So I think we can do this in eight and half, 00:06:46.60\00:06:48.49 eight and a half. Alright. Let's do that. 00:06:48.50\00:06:52.01 Why is it that we can't come 00:06:52.02\00:06:53.09 straight down from here? Because it gets 00:06:53.10\00:06:55.78 pretty steep in there. It's very steep and then 00:06:55.79\00:06:57.45 you get down unto this draw, you have to hike 00:06:57.46\00:06:59.12 back up over this mountain again and then 00:06:59.13\00:07:01.05 back down to the truck. It's a good idea. 00:07:01.06\00:07:04.56 I like your enthusiasm but I wanna hike less 00:07:04.57\00:07:07.37 not more. He didn't mean to have that 00:07:07.38\00:07:09.11 enthusiasm right now. Oh it was not completely 00:07:09.12\00:07:11.56 accidental, was it? Okay, so are 00:07:11.57\00:07:15.20 we good with that plan? We're gonna try and 00:07:15.21\00:07:17.85 do this in 10 to 11 hours but we're gonna try 00:07:17.86\00:07:22.77 and do the whole trip into; three peaks we 00:07:22.78\00:07:27.73 will try and try and hit each peak in 00:07:27.74\00:07:30.70 2 to 3 hours. Three hours on three peaks 00:07:30.71\00:07:36.00 that would be nine hours and then it would give 00:07:36.01\00:07:37.47 us a couple hours to get down. 00:07:37.48\00:07:39.03 So, I think it's doable 11 hours, 00:07:39.04\00:07:42.42 we can do it faster. Great. 00:07:42.43\00:07:44.95 So again this is a brief. We are going here, 00:07:44.96\00:07:47.34 we starting here and so we're gonna come upto 00:07:47.35\00:07:49.80 Tuke here, but we got one peak which is right 00:07:49.81\00:07:52.01 over here that we go up, got to go up and over. 00:07:52.02\00:07:53.97 It's safe to go on the back side, its Dicey, 00:07:53.98\00:07:56.37 lot of loose rocks, maybe some cliffs 00:07:56.38\00:07:58.39 on that side. We wanna kind of go up 00:07:58.40\00:07:59.71 and over and come up to Tuke here. Alright. 00:07:59.72\00:08:02.68 Alright from Tuke we gonna kind of follow 00:08:02.69\00:08:04.62 the ridgeline all the way around and we're gonna 00:08:04.63\00:08:07.17 coming right around here and we're gonna 00:08:07.18\00:08:09.34 go all the way. This is there. Yeah to Peale 00:08:09.35\00:08:13.32 here and then back down Peale and then 00:08:13.33\00:08:15.88 we're coming to ridgeline to Mellen and then from 00:08:15.89\00:08:18.23 Mellen we're gonna drop off and back 00:08:18.24\00:08:19.52 down to the truck. Alright. Okay, 00:08:19.53\00:08:21.31 it sounds good? Yeah. Alright, we can do it, cool. 00:08:21.32\00:08:25.43 Here's how we have divided ourselves, 00:08:25.44\00:08:27.89 we've got the slow team, we've got the 00:08:27.90\00:08:30.86 slower team and we got the slowest team. 00:08:30.87\00:08:35.12 Yeah. We've got the high endurance. 00:08:35.13\00:08:38.66 So we are all in the sub category of slow but 00:08:38.67\00:08:44.22 persistent and we are 00:08:44.23\00:08:47.02 determined to do this thing. 00:08:49.46\00:08:50.43 But AMS you know what AMS is? No one here. 00:08:50.44\00:08:55.05 Acute Mountain Sickness. Sickness on the height, 00:08:55.06\00:08:59.71 same Acute Mountain Sickness, you get 00:08:59.72\00:09:01.96 bifrontal headaches here, headaches right 00:09:01.97\00:09:03.39 in the front. Okay it starts pounding, 00:09:03.40\00:09:05.66 if you have that take some Advil and the best 00:09:05.67\00:09:10.12 thing is just a kind of go down, 00:09:10.13\00:09:11.40 it starts gonna real severe by the snow. 00:09:11.41\00:09:12.97 Once again with the word of prayer 00:09:12.98\00:09:14.60 and then we will have a short devotional thought 00:09:14.61\00:09:17.22 and then we will hit the trial. 00:09:17.23\00:09:19.93 God in heaven, how good it is that 00:09:20.84\00:09:22.77 we can be here on this cool day to do 00:09:22.78\00:09:24.97 a hot activity. We're gonna climb these peaks 00:09:24.98\00:09:27.79 Lord and we are challenging ourselves 00:09:27.80\00:09:32.04 physically, mentally and emotionally 00:09:32.05\00:09:34.75 and you built us and created us in a 00:09:34.76\00:09:37.82 wonderful way. And we enjoy doing these 00:09:37.83\00:09:40.82 kinds of things. It builds character, 00:09:40.83\00:09:44.51 it builds strength, we want to be able to share 00:09:44.52\00:09:47.01 this experience with others and use it somehow, 00:09:47.02\00:09:50.06 someway to help people make decisions for you. 00:09:50.07\00:09:53.25 Keep us safe Lord; bring us back to these vehicles 00:09:53.26\00:09:56.48 all in one peace and then we have a great 00:09:56.49\00:09:59.30 feast tonight in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. 00:09:59.31\00:10:02.96 How about Jesus? Did he have a, did have 00:10:02.97\00:10:05.90 a hut or home? No. He said I don't have 00:10:05.91\00:10:09.13 any place, but a stone to lay my head 00:10:09.14\00:10:12.35 and so we are following the foot 00:10:12.36\00:10:15.19 steps of some very awesome outdoors 00:10:15.20\00:10:18.13 men and women. And we have the opportunity 00:10:18.14\00:10:21.90 to challenge ourselves today, it might get 00:10:21.91\00:10:25.11 tough at times and during those tough times 00:10:25.12\00:10:29.61 what can you do to keep the motivation 00:10:29.62\00:10:33.08 and complete the climb? Keep your mind on Jesus. 00:10:33.09\00:10:39.96 Okay, if you would keep your mind on Jesus 00:10:39.97\00:10:41.97 do you think that would help? Yeah. 00:10:41.98\00:10:44.24 And what are some things that you shouldn't 00:10:44.25\00:10:46.43 do that would hinder? Think negatively. 00:10:46.44\00:10:51.87 Yeah don't think this is too hard because if you 00:10:51.88\00:10:56.23 think this is too hard guess what the rest of 00:10:56.24\00:10:58.24 your body gonna do? It's gonna say, they say, 00:10:58.25\00:11:01.77 no life buddy. It's gonna say yeah you are right 00:11:01.78\00:11:04.17 it's too hard, let's just sit here and chill man, 00:11:04.18\00:11:06.66 let's chill. Quit right now. Okay so don't 00:11:06.67\00:11:09.99 allow your mind to become distractive and afford 00:11:10.00\00:11:13.32 with negative thoughts what I could call 00:11:13.33\00:11:15.91 Stinking Thinking. You need to press on with 00:11:15.92\00:11:19.73 the attitude up. We need to do it. 00:11:19.74\00:11:23.07 The rest of it; gratitude! The attitude 00:11:23.08\00:11:25.24 of gratitude, it's not stinking thinking. 00:11:25.25\00:11:27.29 So get in there, get out there. 00:11:27.30\00:11:30.08 Get your pack on, get your feet going. 00:11:30.09\00:11:32.71 Stay together as a team; keep your eyes on Jesus. 00:11:32.72\00:11:36.74 Don't let the negative stuff crowd in and push 00:11:36.75\00:11:39.37 out Jesus and hike this thing and do well. 00:11:39.38\00:11:42.51 And really push yourself because it's all about 00:11:42.52\00:11:45.60 you know the physical challenge, 00:11:45.61\00:11:48.12 that's why most of the us are here because we 00:11:48.13\00:11:50.24 like to challenge ourselves physically. 00:11:50.25\00:11:51.89 God gave us this awesome body and there's 00:11:51.90\00:11:54.88 amazing tempo and there's a lot you can do 00:11:54.89\00:11:57.89 with it and always remember at all 00:11:57.90\00:12:00.39 times the reason why we're able to do this is 00:12:00.40\00:12:03.67 because God has gifted us this way and so we 00:12:03.68\00:12:06.66 can just praise Him every step to the way. 00:12:06.67\00:12:08.91 So let's get on with it and 00:12:08.92\00:12:11.71 let's go, we can do this thing. 00:12:11.72\00:12:14.73 Yeah we will do all right up here, 00:12:35.89\00:12:37.82 I am gonna fallow these tree lines up here. 00:12:37.83\00:12:40.11 You know as people starts fading back, 00:12:43.84\00:12:45.23 I'll pull the team together and I stay 00:12:45.24\00:12:46.59 with a slow one's. Okay but why not we the 00:12:46.60\00:12:49.37 keep the team of four together. Yeah. 00:12:49.38\00:12:51.03 Well yeah, we will keep a team of four. 00:12:51.04\00:12:52.08 I'll let Richard take off. So we kind of; 00:12:52.09\00:12:54.55 if these guys start take them with you there 00:12:54.56\00:12:57.06 and then if they start feeling to send them back 00:12:57.07\00:12:58.97 to us this way. We'll then wait. 00:12:58.98\00:13:00.53 You know how Richard catch up? 00:13:00.54\00:13:01.72 You have Noah, Jacob. I mean Noah beside 00:13:01.73\00:13:05.23 of my dad, it's me, Anthony and Richard. 00:13:05.24\00:13:11.33 That's fine we can do that. And then and you 00:13:11.34\00:13:16.38 and Jim and the rest can go together and 00:13:16.39\00:13:19.18 you folks, you can help carry. 00:13:19.19\00:13:23.91 Let's go and then straight across 00:13:23.92\00:13:26.70 the tallest one. We're gonna hike that one? 00:13:26.71\00:13:28.28 Yes. And then you know if behind to these trees, 00:13:28.29\00:13:31.82 you can't try to see it yes. And then of course, 00:13:31.83\00:13:35.86 we're all come down to next one over, 00:13:35.87\00:13:36.84 not this one, Mike hikes this valley. 00:13:36.85\00:13:38.58 This is the valley we are gonna drop down into, 00:13:38.59\00:13:40.89 once you guys climb Mellenthin, 00:13:40.90\00:13:43.52 Come around to this ridge right here 00:13:43.53\00:13:45.58 in front of us. Come all the way down, 00:13:45.59\00:13:48.10 you see that meadow right there. 00:13:48.11\00:13:50.18 Walk all the way through that meadow 00:13:50.19\00:13:52.20 and then drop down into the one of your 00:13:52.21\00:13:56.93 making players any other day. 00:13:56.94\00:13:58.57 Okay that's what you'll do. Okay. 00:13:58.58\00:14:00.61 Oh which is that one okay. Yeah. 00:14:00.62\00:14:03.84 So if we, I can't have my eye. 00:14:03.85\00:14:06.74 Well there is the meadow down there republic 00:14:06.75\00:14:11.09 gained about 400 feet of elevation right now. 00:14:11.10\00:14:14.29 We are go to go everyone's gonna go. 00:14:17.10\00:14:19.04 Copy work goes, so we're gonna at least go on 00:14:19.05\00:14:22.72 and once we get to the next peak we're not 00:14:22.73\00:14:23.90 turning back, we're gonna keep going and 00:14:23.91\00:14:25.54 drop down that far ridge 00:14:25.55\00:14:26.65 probably with some later on. 00:14:26.66\00:14:28.62 Alright, let's continue our group says 00:14:44.13\00:14:45.85 we wanna go. So there's a couple of that found, 00:14:45.86\00:14:48.44 let me wanna turn around but their game for it so 00:14:48.45\00:14:51.30 and we had a word of prayer before we started 00:14:51.31\00:14:53.10 up here and Richard and I did, let it happened. 00:14:53.11\00:14:55.42 Our prayer was answered today, 00:14:55.43\00:14:57.24 all the thunder storms cleared away. 00:14:57.25\00:14:59.34 Mike's pretty careful in where he goes 00:15:03.35\00:15:05.48 and they are pushing probably 11,400 feet 00:15:05.49\00:15:10.22 right now. It's fairly windy and cold but really 00:15:10.23\00:15:14.75 happy with the progress that we're making. 00:15:14.76\00:15:16.49 We just were, this is kind of the bold and 00:15:16.50\00:15:19.69 blow it. We're gonna go right up this ridge, 00:15:19.70\00:15:23.22 this summit and then we're going to go across 00:15:23.23\00:15:29.75 to that peak. And we're going to go across 00:15:29.76\00:15:34.41 to that peak and go down. Some of the 00:15:34.42\00:15:39.31 groups hoping to make the next peak 00:15:39.32\00:15:41.43 and we are just gonna have to see how we feel 00:15:41.44\00:15:43.15 when we get down on this ridge and start going 00:15:43.16\00:15:44.54 upto next peak everyone feels. 00:15:44.55\00:15:46.20 We do have an option I think is to branch off, 00:15:46.21\00:15:49.56 you go around the ridgeline and swing 00:15:49.57\00:15:51.49 down for those that don't feel like they want 00:15:51.50\00:15:53.99 to go on. But boys beautiful up here. 00:15:54.00\00:15:57.09 Yeah. Oh yeah. We have an awesome creator 00:15:57.10\00:16:03.75 who made mounts right here and right below us, 00:16:03.76\00:16:07.01 right there. You know, its probably 95 degrees, 00:16:07.02\00:16:11.28 100 degrees right now down there and who guesses 00:16:11.29\00:16:14.37 the temperature right now and we have a 00:16:14.38\00:16:15.99 temperature gauge on them. 00:16:16.00\00:16:17.78 Like 0 with windshield, without windshield. 00:16:17.79\00:16:20.97 Do you have? Oh my battery is too low. 00:16:20.98\00:16:25.77 It's probably just above freezing up here right 00:16:25.78\00:16:28.61 now and windshields below freezing up here. 00:16:28.62\00:16:31.72 Ashley can test to find out that, hi Ashley. 00:16:33.05\00:16:36.06 It's Cold. Oh that's true. I think the other group 00:16:36.07\00:16:41.02 is probably run a quarter of a mile, 00:16:41.03\00:16:43.50 half an hour about ahead of us, 00:16:43.51\00:16:45.28 I think they're gonna try to hit all three peaks 00:16:45.29\00:16:48.46 and they're still original eight and hours. 00:16:48.47\00:16:51.38 I don't know if we will make it. 00:16:51.39\00:16:54.35 But we will try. It's been three hours and 00:16:54.36\00:16:56.56 ten minutes so far. Lightening is dangerous 00:16:56.57\00:17:00.82 thing on top of the mountains and Dr. Duehrssen 00:17:00.83\00:17:06.11 told us about it. As he is the tallest one here. 00:17:06.12\00:17:09.54 Yeah. Are you up? Yeah, hold the pole up. 00:17:09.55\00:17:12.95 Hold the pole up. Yeah. No moving please. 00:17:12.96\00:17:17.64 We're at light lightening rock. 00:17:19.59\00:17:21.23 Okay at the count of three, you yell, yeah 00:17:21.24\00:17:24.48 lighting, 1, 2, 3. Lighting! 00:17:24.49\00:17:27.60 How about the fog? 00:17:27.61\00:17:29.17 Here's the Lee group, here's our group. 00:17:39.36\00:17:42.01 It's looking a little threatening. 00:17:55.08\00:17:56.06 Starting to build! No lightening, 00:17:56.07\00:17:58.13 no rain yet but it's definitely looking a 00:17:58.14\00:18:00.27 little threatening. Yeah. And I think with the 00:18:00.28\00:18:03.16 energy level of our group and self, may 00:18:03.17\00:18:04.89 we should go ahead and we bag one of them 00:18:04.90\00:18:07.12 and that's a great accomplishment. Yeah. 00:18:07.13\00:18:09.36 And then we got to think about 00:18:09.37\00:18:10.46 trying to find the way down. 00:18:10.47\00:18:11.90 I think, we can go down the opposite 00:18:37.85\00:18:39.41 side of this valley, it would save us a 00:18:39.42\00:18:43.17 lot of time because if we go down to where 00:18:43.18\00:18:45.89 we are looking at now is gonna be at least 00:18:45.90\00:18:47.94 15 miles to get back around 00:18:47.95\00:18:50.42 to where the vehicles are. 00:18:50.43\00:18:52.92 Who's group is that? That's my close group, 00:18:54.70\00:18:57.27 that's group 1, across away from us on 00:18:57.28\00:19:00.62 the ridge over there. You can see part of group 00:19:00.63\00:19:03.49 one and Mike Low is there and there's a 00:19:03.50\00:19:06.07 couple more. There should up just at the 00:19:06.08\00:19:07.83 top of the ridge that you can see. 00:19:07.84\00:19:10.25 So it's 3 people of his group inside, 00:19:10.26\00:19:12.66 I believe there is a total of four or five 00:19:12.67\00:19:16.46 of them all together so they're 00:19:16.47\00:19:18.54 making pretty good progress. 00:19:18.55\00:19:20.51 When I've discussed and we feel that, 00:19:20.52\00:19:23.06 we probably need to head down. 00:19:23.07\00:19:25.39 The cumulus clouds are building, 00:19:25.40\00:19:27.03 it's probably some rain, maybe lighting. 00:19:27.04\00:19:29.05 Hey Michael. One second, we got, Mike calling us. 00:19:29.06\00:19:31.96 Go ahead Mike. Alright. I think we'll go ahead 00:19:31.97\00:19:36.75 and press on and we'll take cover 00:19:36.76\00:19:40.04 if the lightening starts. Yeah you know, 00:19:40.05\00:19:46.54 I think, once the lightening starts. 00:19:46.55\00:19:48.10 It starts raining, how things gonna let up 00:19:48.11\00:19:49.62 all after noon. And so I think you need, 00:19:49.63\00:19:51.97 once first sign of any kind of lightening 00:19:51.98\00:19:54.85 building, you need to get off right away. 00:19:54.86\00:19:56.71 Alright sounds good. Alright guys we'll keep 00:19:57.94\00:20:03.03 you in our prayers, and we're gonna head down. 00:20:03.04\00:20:04.41 Richard's coming down with us too, 00:20:04.42\00:20:05.72 we're all going down as a group. 00:20:05.73\00:20:07.07 The lake, it's feeling good up here. 00:20:07.08\00:20:10.40 Look behind there. A couple of times 00:20:10.41\00:20:11.99 we've had 50 to 55 mile hour winds. 00:20:12.00\00:20:17.84 Lately, it's been at our tail; well it's being 00:20:17.85\00:20:22.81 kind of pushing us along, making it easy to walk. 00:20:22.82\00:20:26.42 We got a couple of guys here who are 00:20:26.43\00:20:29.33 interested in joining you down there. 00:20:29.34\00:20:31.81 Some of us gonna wait here if they really wanna 00:20:32.87\00:20:34.76 come down but it was, 00:20:34.77\00:20:35.76 well we keep going real dicey. 00:20:35.77\00:20:37.75 We got a feeling that you guys can just go down 00:20:42.11\00:20:45.56 to this ridge to my right, and then cross the tree 00:20:45.57\00:20:48.74 line down and then come over through 00:20:48.75\00:20:51.95 the top side of where you are at. 00:20:51.96\00:20:54.45 How are you guys doing? You are holding up. 00:21:58.26\00:21:59.88 We just coming to grad one, we're coming 00:22:01.10\00:22:03.53 back down. Cool, we just now all got 00:22:03.54\00:22:08.01 back to the vehicles. We're seeing, 00:22:08.02\00:22:09.10 we're looking at you from the vehicles. 00:22:09.11\00:22:10.80 Yes, I guess I need back and see you. 00:22:12.22\00:22:15.96 You're tiny little ants on the 00:22:19.22\00:22:20.58 sky on the ridge line. 00:22:20.59\00:22:22.60 Now that we've done the hike, let's talk 00:22:24.19\00:22:29.03 about it. A lot of things happened 00:22:29.04\00:22:30.64 on the mountain, didn't it? Yeah. 00:22:30.65\00:22:32.55 We had people get tired, we had people get cold, 00:22:32.56\00:22:36.96 did anybody get hungry? Oh yeah. 00:22:36.97\00:22:38.89 So we had some hunger issues as well. 00:22:38.90\00:22:42.35 Did anybody get thirsty? Or did you drink well 00:22:42.36\00:22:45.38 enough during the time. Yes we drink it. 00:22:45.39\00:22:48.16 Okay, and did you think the trial was steep? 00:22:48.17\00:22:52.09 At times, yes. And not always and did it help 00:22:52.10\00:22:56.40 walking on the snow verses the rocks? 00:22:56.41\00:22:58.60 Yes, sometimes. And sometimes. 00:22:58.61\00:23:00.97 And did it get windy at all up there? 00:23:00.98\00:23:03.18 Yes. You know with wind blowing that hard, 00:23:03.19\00:23:09.68 I am surprised that the earth even rotates 00:23:09.69\00:23:12.00 you know, I mean got craze. 00:23:12.01\00:23:14.48 We got to the top of Mount Peale, 00:23:14.49\00:23:16.32 enjoyed our little sunny siesta there? 00:23:16.33\00:23:18.81 Ate lunch! And had a bit of, yeah had a bit 00:23:18.82\00:23:21.69 of a food and some drink there, took some 00:23:21.70\00:23:23.43 pictures. Then we doubled back and went over 00:23:23.44\00:23:26.44 and by then we were in radio contact with you 00:23:26.45\00:23:31.44 folks before you went down and you made a 00:23:31.45\00:23:34.90 decision to go down and then we made a 00:23:34.91\00:23:37.52 decision to go on. And then after a while 00:23:37.53\00:23:41.24 we ran into you folks again because you down 00:23:41.25\00:23:44.95 at that lake we had radio contact. 00:23:44.96\00:23:47.21 And then what for the team there what 00:23:47.22\00:23:51.07 we are doing? Noah and I decided the better 00:23:51.08\00:23:54.87 interested sanity to go down at that point. 00:23:54.88\00:23:58.11 So you want to join the bottom dwellers? Yeah. 00:23:58.12\00:24:04.99 So you went and hung out with the lake folk? Yeah. 00:24:05.00\00:24:09.51 And how was that getting down. Brutal. 00:24:09.52\00:24:13.91 It was not fun, it was tired, I was halfway 00:24:13.92\00:24:18.17 over halfway up the hill and sliding on the rocks 00:24:18.18\00:24:22.14 and all of a sudden this one takes off and 00:24:22.15\00:24:23.73 it goes all the way down the hill, all the way 00:24:23.74\00:24:26.22 into the tree clear. Anyway the rock was 00:24:26.23\00:24:29.03 just big. Yeah. But it just, you can hear it 00:24:29.04\00:24:31.73 going all the way down. Amazing! Yeah it was 00:24:31.74\00:24:34.21 deepen and very slippery but we 00:24:34.22\00:24:36.49 managed without cutting ourself. 00:24:36.50\00:24:39.08 All over just to say it was not as bad as 00:24:39.09\00:24:40.06 the people had to do on the street. 00:24:40.07\00:24:41.61 Yeah take two and three. Hard over there. 00:24:41.62\00:24:44.79 So there Josiah and Noah joined. 00:24:44.80\00:24:48.31 Richard and Michael down below and the 00:24:48.32\00:24:50.64 rest of you folks and then Caleb rather bravely 00:24:50.65\00:24:56.64 with a lot of fear interpretation decided 00:24:56.65\00:24:59.92 to go on with us because Leonard and 00:24:59.93\00:25:01.55 I were determined to get that third peak. 00:25:01.56\00:25:03.73 And so he came and how was it for you? 00:25:03.74\00:25:06.37 Thos are people they have to come down. 00:25:06.38\00:25:08.39 So making the peak. Going over with ridge 00:25:08.40\00:25:13.33 and going up the peak was okay and then 00:25:13.34\00:25:15.28 coming down except from the wind. Yeah. 00:25:15.29\00:25:17.83 And then coming down, once started coming down, 00:25:17.84\00:25:20.67 do that. So the downhill stretch to the 00:25:20.68\00:25:23.90 meadow where they left the van for us 00:25:23.91\00:25:26.00 was killer. Having to hopple those logs, 00:25:26.01\00:25:29.91 we went to, you know I was jumping, headaches so. 00:25:29.92\00:25:34.75 It really makes you realize how powerful God is. 00:25:36.80\00:25:40.57 Yeah. How quickly those mountains were formed 00:25:40.58\00:25:43.56 and you can look at them from the ground 00:25:43.57\00:25:45.79 and say yeah man with all our technology 00:25:45.80\00:25:48.69 we could eventually move those but then 00:25:48.70\00:25:50.97 when you get up on them you can actually 00:25:50.98\00:25:52.44 climbed all the way up and you see which 00:25:52.45\00:25:53.90 we work went this like, no way, never could 00:25:53.91\00:25:56.86 be move up. Right. And then God did it all 00:25:56.87\00:25:59.68 and just you know a breath taking time. 00:25:59.69\00:26:02.97 It was interesting. We see from lives respecting 00:26:02.98\00:26:04.95 how past was clouds were moving. 00:26:04.96\00:26:06.66 That's right, watching those shadows from 00:26:06.67\00:26:09.12 the ground. Two to three seconds from the 00:26:09.13\00:26:12.63 shadows totally cover the basin. Yeah. 00:26:12.64\00:26:14.73 Another side. The other thing is to see 00:26:14.74\00:26:17.72 that the beauty. You just look out 00:26:17.73\00:26:19.24 and anyway you look, you can just see 00:26:19.25\00:26:21.04 I mean these pillars in Utah, 00:26:21.05\00:26:24.05 if you look out that way. Yeah. From the mountain. 00:26:24.06\00:26:26.29 Yeah. You can see Moab and you can see the 00:26:26.30\00:26:28.41 out in distance. You know the pillar, 00:26:28.42\00:26:29.71 it's just beautiful. Now how does what you see 00:26:29.72\00:26:34.66 out here compared to what you see on television. 00:26:34.67\00:26:39.91 Doesn't. You know I mean its one thing to 00:26:39.92\00:26:43.09 watch it on television right? Because it's 00:26:43.10\00:26:45.19 beautiful, if you can't be there, 00:26:45.20\00:26:46.63 it's nice to be able to see it but does it come 00:26:46.64\00:26:49.30 close actually being here. No. No comparison. 00:26:49.31\00:26:52.95 We hope you have enjoyed watching 00:27:22.24\00:27:24.02 the Adventure Race.
