somebody who became a
Christian behind bars.

You were telling me a story.

You know, Jason,

there's this
man that stands out,

it's resonated in my life.

He was actually
in the same prison
00:01:35.32\00:01:36.69
where I was in prison,
maximum security prison.
00:01:36.73\00:01:39.53
And as he begin to
share his testimony,

this man shot a
Christian in the head.
00:01:42.40\00:01:47.64
The Christian didn't die.
00:01:47.67\00:01:49.00
This man was
arrested and went on the run.

They captured him,
they brought him back,
00:01:53.71\00:01:55.34
they took him to the
court and there it was set.

In the courtroom,

the Christian came
to the court hearing

and the Christian
said, "I forgive you."

And that man began to think,

yes, he was sentenced to
prison to many, many years

and he went to prison.

He was involved in gangs
and different things like that,

but his conversion experience
was based on a Christian
00:02:15.33\00:02:18.97
who got shot in the head
and said, "I forgive you."
00:02:19.00\00:02:22.70
And that started to
resonate in his life
00:02:22.74\00:02:24.57
and he said, man,
if he can forgive me,
00:02:24.61\00:02:26.91
that he wanted to
taste and see and experience
00:02:26.94\00:02:30.38
and that's and now he's standing
00:02:30.41\00:02:31.88
for Jesus in prison.

He's sharing his faith,

and no longer
involved with the gangs.

And so, that's what the
transformation of God does.

One person shot in the
head said, "I forgive you."

But it goes way
higher than that.

On the cross of Calvary,
Jesus hung there and He said,

And so we find pardon
and forgiveness on the cross.

You know, it's not just
literal jails and prisons

of incarceration
across our country,

but it's a spiritual bondage

that sometimes we
find ourselves in.

We're locked up
and without Christ,

there's no hope.

And so that's the
opportunity that we have.

You know, 3ABN goes into

Thirty five years of age,
I was tired of that old life.

old, tired of what?

Tired of all the
rigorous rule of life, right?

And it seemed like
when I used to see people

that were Christians,

you know, they had a
character about themselves,

they carried, like
they were carrying,

you know, it's
just like seeing Christ

and I wanted that.

So at 35 years old,

you were willing
to take off your coat.

And you said, "Lord,
would You give me yours?"

walk in a newness of life

and then we have His robe.

That's the
transformation that takes place.

We don't have no statute,

other than He died for us,

and He loved us.

know, your wife passed away

some time ago,

true and faithful to the pole.

I never forget the time

that I was asked to be
a part of prison ministry,

me and my wife,

and it's been a
blessing ever since.

Even through her
passing and everything,

that I got from the prisoners,

and what a blessing is being

share a story with you, Lemuel.

There was a young man
that was on death row.

He committed a heinous
crime when he was younger.

He got convicted of this crime.
00:06:42.56\00:06:44.30
He got sentenced to death
row, and later on down the line,
00:06:44.33\00:06:47.54
they were trying to
overturn the conviction
00:06:47.57\00:06:50.64
that led to death row
00:06:50.67\00:06:53.11
to where he would
have a stay of execution.
00:06:53.14\00:06:56.08
It was coming down to the wire.
00:06:56.11\00:06:58.28
This young man
had made a difference
00:06:58.31\00:07:00.28
in so many people's lives.
00:07:00.32\00:07:02.18
He had like 500 or
600, pen pals or something
00:07:02.22\00:07:05.92
and he had
mentored the individual
00:07:05.95\00:07:08.36
that actually ended up hosting
00:07:08.39\00:07:10.73
a program on 3ABN's
Dare to Dream Network.

And then he became a pastor,

not the individual
that was incarcerated,
00:07:16.46\00:07:18.43
but Pastor Aaron Chancy
ended up becoming a pastor.

He hosts the New Journey.

And he was taken
00:07:24.67\00:07:26.47
under the wing
of this individual
00:07:26.51\00:07:28.18
that ended up on death row.

Was on death row, right? Yes.

So a changed life, you know,
the impact that one can have,

we all have an influence.

And so this young man
ended up using his influence,

though he was in
a place that was,

a place of darkness.

He was spreading
light within those walls.

And I think that's
a powerful testimony

of what God can do

in the life of
someone who accepts Him.

I have some
people I know personally,

that have been
arrested and incarcerated.

And if I'm being honest,

I've not been the
most compassionate
00:08:04.68\00:08:07.32
towards them in my heart.
00:08:07.35\00:08:08.68
I feel like I had a
harsh attitude towards them

and I think it
was me going to prison
00:08:12.69\00:08:15.66
and seeing these inmates,
00:08:15.69\00:08:18.73
and just listening
to them that I realized
00:08:18.76\00:08:20.70
that these people
that are a lot like me,

I'm just like these people.

And so, seeing that, and
it really just hit me hard,

especially when I
saw young girls there

that were close to my age,

and just hearing
how easy it is to end up

in a place like they're in.

It's so easy.

What if God treated me

the way that I'm
thinking about these people?

What if God treated us that way,

So if we mess up,

and the truck broke
down and I've got it fixed

and I called the
elder of the church.

And I said, "Look,

help me unload these oranges."

He said, "Well, right now

I'm watching a good
Western, a good old Western."
