00:01:20.08\00:01:23.14 You know, Brother, 00:01:23.18\00:01:24.51 that's what Christmas Behind Bars is all about. 00:01:24.55\00:01:26.15 It's bringing light into these dark places. 00:01:26.18\00:01:29.65 These packages that we make and our sponsors help provide 00:01:29.68\00:01:32.89 and 3ABN as well, 00:01:32.92\00:01:35.02 they go to solitary confinement. 00:01:35.06\00:01:36.93 They go to places where men don't ever get out 00:01:36.96\00:01:39.76 unless they're going to the shower. 00:01:39.79\00:01:41.13 They eat in there, they sleep in there 00:01:41.16\00:01:42.63 and they're in there just, like, all day, 00:01:42.66\00:01:44.27 you know, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 00:01:44.30\00:01:46.77 unless they get a little bit of recreation. 00:01:46.80\00:01:48.84 There is no hope confined to a cell. 00:01:48.87\00:01:52.31 There is no light. 00:01:52.34\00:01:53.68 There's outside sunshine 00:01:53.71\00:01:55.04 that occasionally a ray will come in, 00:01:55.08\00:01:56.75 but we're talking about a light that's internal. 00:01:56.78\00:01:59.58 Can you share something from the scripture 00:01:59.61\00:02:01.22 about the internal, 00:02:01.25\00:02:02.75 the internalization of light? 00:02:02.78\00:02:04.52 Absolutely. 00:02:04.55\00:02:05.89 I want to read to you from John 8:12, 00:02:05.92\00:02:10.13 and the Word of God says, 00:02:10.16\00:02:11.49 "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 00:02:11.53\00:02:14.20 'I am the light of the world. 00:02:14.23\00:02:16.43 He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, 00:02:16.46\00:02:20.24 but have the light of life.'" 00:02:20.27\00:02:23.44 The light of life that we're able to provide 00:02:23.47\00:02:25.77 for these people in prison. 00:02:25.81\00:02:27.41 We can't take matches and candles 00:02:27.44\00:02:29.41 and flashlights and batteries. 00:02:29.44\00:02:31.81 But the light of life is embedded in the power 00:02:31.85\00:02:37.59 that comes through the Holy Spirit in the Bible. 00:02:37.62\00:02:39.92 So we're able to take Bibles in to these people 00:02:39.95\00:02:42.36 and we actually need Bibles, 00:02:42.39\00:02:44.13 so if our sponsors at home 00:02:44.16\00:02:46.43 would like to send Bibles to Christmas Behind Bars, 00:02:46.46\00:02:47.93 they can do that. 00:02:47.96\00:02:49.30 New or used Bibles, we need Bibles. 00:02:49.33\00:02:51.77 The gift packages that we make are filled with literature. 00:02:51.80\00:02:55.70 There's a Creation magazine in here, 00:02:55.74\00:02:57.54 there's a Steps to Christ, 00:02:57.57\00:02:59.37 there's a GLOW tracts and literature, 00:02:59.41\00:03:01.64 along with pretzels and snack items. 00:03:01.68\00:03:04.25 So our desire is this can bring them a bit of hope, 00:03:04.28\00:03:07.05 a bit of light, the Creation magazine, 00:03:07.08\00:03:09.12 the Word of God. 00:03:09.15\00:03:10.49 And so, there's a lot of different ways 00:03:10.52\00:03:12.09 we talk about light, 00:03:12.12\00:03:13.46 but you're talking about that Jesus 00:03:13.49\00:03:15.19 is the light of the world. 00:03:15.22\00:03:16.56 That's right. 00:03:16.59\00:03:17.93 And, you know, there's lights, 00:03:17.96\00:03:19.29 there's candles here representing 00:03:19.33\00:03:20.66 the light, the light. 00:03:20.70\00:03:22.36 And so as people come to know who Jesus is, 00:03:22.40\00:03:26.60 then they want to share that with somebody else. 00:03:26.63\00:03:28.80 That's right. That's the gospel. 00:03:28.84\00:03:30.31 When we come and we have that desire 00:03:30.34\00:03:31.97 because we want others to know of the truth. 00:03:32.01\00:03:36.01 And I have a friend, 00:03:36.04\00:03:38.08 he was in the maximum security prison 00:03:38.11\00:03:39.65 where I was incarcerated. 00:03:39.68\00:03:41.22 And this guy was selling drugs. 00:03:41.25\00:03:43.39 He's inside prison 00:03:43.42\00:03:44.82 and he's selling drugs on the street from prison 00:03:44.85\00:03:48.29 and they busted this guy 00:03:48.32\00:03:50.46 and so he got a lawyer. 00:03:50.49\00:03:52.06 In maximum security prison, he got a lawyer 00:03:52.09\00:03:54.30 and he paid him $30,000. 00:03:54.33\00:03:56.63 $30,000. 00:03:56.67\00:03:58.00 $30,000 from a prison cell, 00:03:58.03\00:04:00.17 paid his attorney and guess what? 00:04:00.20\00:04:02.50 His lawyer worked against him 00:04:02.54\00:04:03.94 and they added 30 years to his sentence. 00:04:03.97\00:04:05.91 Wow. 00:04:05.94\00:04:07.28 He only had a couple years left, 00:04:07.31\00:04:08.64 they added 30 years to his sentence 00:04:08.68\00:04:10.01 and they took him out of the state of Indiana 00:04:10.05\00:04:11.95 and they shipped him off to a faraway place, Virginia. 00:04:11.98\00:04:15.18 And in a super max prison, Brother, 00:04:15.22\00:04:16.99 let me tell you something, 00:04:17.02\00:04:18.52 then boys that had life, double life, life plus 80, 00:04:18.55\00:04:22.69 they started telling my friend about Jesus. 00:04:22.72\00:04:25.09 They started telling my friend about the light of the world, 00:04:25.13\00:04:27.53 they started sharing with him the gospel. 00:04:27.56\00:04:30.03 You know what my friend told him? 00:04:30.07\00:04:31.40 What did he tell him? 00:04:31.43\00:04:32.77 I already know about Jesus. 00:04:32.80\00:04:34.80 He said, "I've been running from Jesus." 00:04:34.84\00:04:37.41 But in that super max prison in Virginia, 00:04:37.44\00:04:40.41 my friend gave his life to Christ, 00:04:40.44\00:04:42.94 and my friend began to evangelize 00:04:42.98\00:04:45.08 and share with other people. 00:04:45.11\00:04:47.32 My friend only had 30 years, 00:04:47.35\00:04:49.15 these people had life and double life. 00:04:49.18\00:04:51.72 My friend was transferred back to Indiana, 00:04:51.75\00:04:53.86 he was down to... He have to do half of your time. 00:04:53.89\00:04:56.79 He was transferred back to a prison in Indiana 00:04:56.83\00:04:59.23 and they said, Oh, he's back, he's back. 00:04:59.26\00:05:01.50 The game's on, come on dude, let's get." 00:05:01.53\00:05:03.80 He said, "No." 00:05:03.83\00:05:05.17 He said, "That's the old me." 00:05:05.20\00:05:06.53 Yes. 00:05:06.57\00:05:07.90 He said, "This is the new me." 00:05:07.94\00:05:09.27 And when he got out of prison, 00:05:09.30\00:05:11.41 he started going down to his local county jail 00:05:11.44\00:05:13.78 and he wanted to share, he had a desire to share 00:05:13.81\00:05:16.71 and bring hope to those people in the county jail 00:05:16.75\00:05:18.91 where he went to prison for many years 00:05:18.95\00:05:20.45 and people he knew. 00:05:20.48\00:05:21.85 And, you know, they begin talking 00:05:21.88\00:05:23.22 about Christmas Behind Bars, 00:05:23.25\00:05:24.59 they said, "Christmas Behind Bars brings these great, 00:05:24.62\00:05:26.42 big bags and they got the big bags." 00:05:26.45\00:05:28.86 And this guy would just bring little bags 00:05:28.89\00:05:30.63 full of candy and a few things 00:05:30.66\00:05:32.46 and so he called me wanting to know 00:05:32.49\00:05:34.13 what Christmas Behind Bars, 00:05:34.16\00:05:35.50 what's that about, you know? 00:05:35.53\00:05:36.87 Can I go with you? 00:05:36.90\00:05:38.23 And so I invited him to come to a prison 00:05:38.27\00:05:41.24 and we're at this prison, 3000 inmates 00:05:41.27\00:05:44.14 and he comes up to me and said, 00:05:44.17\00:05:45.51 "Do you think we could ever take this program 00:05:45.54\00:05:47.01 to Virginia?" 00:05:47.04\00:05:48.38 So see, he had found a hope in Christ 00:05:48.41\00:05:51.05 and he wanted to go back to the state of Virginia, 00:05:51.08\00:05:53.11 where those people were never going to get out of prison. 00:05:53.15\00:05:55.68 And I'm like, "Look, dude, right now, 00:05:55.72\00:05:57.69 we're focused on this prison right here. 00:05:57.72\00:05:59.32 The next three days, we're going to be right here," 00:05:59.35\00:06:01.19 and I couldn't even think, I said, "Why don't you check?" 00:06:01.22\00:06:03.83 What he did, man, is he went home 00:06:03.86\00:06:06.46 and he called the prison 00:06:06.49\00:06:07.83 and he talked to someone in the chaplaincy office. 00:06:07.86\00:06:10.80 I get a call from central office in Virginia 00:06:10.83\00:06:13.60 and this guy's named Dr. Chay, 00:06:13.64\00:06:15.60 he's in charge of all the prisons 00:06:15.64\00:06:17.21 and all the religious programming. 00:06:17.24\00:06:18.94 And this guy called me and he said, 00:06:18.97\00:06:20.91 "You know, I think that it's a great program" 00:06:20.94\00:06:23.31 he said, "I've approved it. 00:06:23.35\00:06:25.95 He said, "I've approved it for every inmate 00:06:25.98\00:06:28.35 in the state of Virginia." 00:06:28.38\00:06:29.72 Praise the Lord. 00:06:29.75\00:06:31.09 I said, "Sir, how many inmates you got?" 00:06:31.12\00:06:35.02 He said, "Thirty thousand." 00:06:35.06\00:06:37.36 I said, "Look, man," I said, "I tell you what, 00:06:37.39\00:06:39.66 we'd never even done 15,000 up to that point, 00:06:39.69\00:06:42.13 never in the ministry time before." 00:06:42.16\00:06:44.17 I said, "Look, I tell you what, we'll do 15,000 to start." 00:06:44.20\00:06:46.74 He said, "Well, we'll start at the level ones 00:06:46.77\00:06:48.44 and we'll work our way up." 00:06:48.47\00:06:49.80 I said, "Oh, no sir, 00:06:49.84\00:06:51.17 we want to start at the super max 00:06:51.21\00:06:52.54 and work our way down," 00:06:52.57\00:06:53.91 because I knew that's where Buddy wanted to go. 00:06:53.94\00:06:55.71 And see because Buddy gave his life to Christ. 00:06:55.74\00:06:59.98 Buddy gave his life to Christ and lives were ignited, 00:07:00.02\00:07:05.95 lives were changed, 00:07:05.99\00:07:08.42 hope was brought back to not only the prison 00:07:08.46\00:07:11.26 where Buddy wanted to go back, 00:07:11.29\00:07:13.70 but hope was brought to 30,000 men and women 00:07:13.73\00:07:17.63 for Christ. 00:07:17.67\00:07:19.10 And that's what the gospel is about. 00:07:19.13\00:07:21.10 As we come to know who Jesus is, 00:07:21.14\00:07:24.51 then we want to share it with somebody else. 00:07:24.54\00:07:27.28 And so one individual committed his life to Christ, 00:07:27.31\00:07:30.78 30,000 men and women were encouraged with the gospel 00:07:30.81\00:07:35.78 through Christmas Behind Bars and the packages. 00:07:35.82\00:07:37.62 So that's what the light is, 00:07:37.65\00:07:39.65 as we come to know the light internally, 00:07:39.69\00:07:42.72 then we want to share the light. 00:07:42.76\00:07:44.33 Yes, absolutely. 00:07:44.36\00:07:46.03 I mean, how can you hold on 00:07:46.06\00:07:47.76 to a good thing and not share it?
