It's good to be back with you again. 00:01:04.93\00:01:06.96 You know, we talked in our last program 00:01:07.00\00:01:09.06 about the experiences that people have, 00:01:09.10\00:01:12.20 that the genetics sometimes were out 00:01:12.23\00:01:14.34 we have a symptom and when we have a symptom, 00:01:14.37\00:01:16.20 we shouldn't ignore it, okay? 00:01:16.24\00:01:18.74 And I think we learned last time about 00:01:18.77\00:01:20.68 how Dan was really proactive in this, 00:01:20.71\00:01:24.28 you know, you stayed on the treadmill even more, 00:01:24.31\00:01:26.72 you know, a lot of people wouldn't have done that. 00:01:26.75\00:01:28.18 And they picked up the problem and they went through 00:01:28.22\00:01:30.79 the surgery and this program, 00:01:30.82\00:01:33.42 we wanna specifically talk about 00:01:33.46\00:01:36.12 how God uses our health misfortunes 00:01:36.16\00:01:40.66 to increase our ministry and the changes inside 00:01:40.70\00:01:44.60 and, you know, God uses these things 00:01:44.63\00:01:47.67 for whatever reason, 00:01:47.70\00:01:49.04 you know, we think more horizontal, 00:01:49.07\00:01:50.77 but God sees vertically. 00:01:50.81\00:01:52.17 He sees from beginning to end. 00:01:52.21\00:01:54.48 And so let's talk about 00:01:54.51\00:01:56.04 we've got you out of the hospital. 00:01:56.08\00:01:58.08 How has this changed you as a person? 00:01:58.11\00:02:01.38 Well, every day is a gift. 00:02:01.42\00:02:04.32 We realize that and I've said it before. 00:02:04.35\00:02:07.06 But you really realize that after this because as you say, 00:02:07.09\00:02:09.72 when you know people who've gone through 00:02:09.76\00:02:11.89 the exact same thing, 00:02:11.93\00:02:13.26 but they didn't make it 00:02:13.29\00:02:14.63 or maybe they died just a month or two later. 00:02:14.66\00:02:17.50 Mine, I don't know if it's been 15 months or so, 00:02:17.53\00:02:19.67 but the beauty of it is, 00:02:19.70\00:02:22.60 if I die tomorrow, I'd have no regrets. 00:02:22.64\00:02:25.07 I done this all, 00:02:25.11\00:02:26.44 this last 15 months has been worth it. 00:02:26.47\00:02:28.64 My family, the ministry, God has put us in, 00:02:28.68\00:02:32.11 I wouldn't have given this up for nothing. 00:02:32.15\00:02:33.92 So thank you, Lord, for this time 00:02:33.95\00:02:36.08 and whatever we get ahead is a gift, 00:02:36.12\00:02:38.19 but hey, when it's all over, you know, 00:02:38.22\00:02:40.82 should we not live till Lord comes, 00:02:40.86\00:02:42.69 we're only asleep for a moment in the ground. 00:02:42.72\00:02:45.03 Next thing we see is the face of Jesus. 00:02:45.06\00:02:47.36 So we're winners, 00:02:47.40\00:02:48.73 as long as you accept Jesus Christ 00:02:48.76\00:02:50.67 as Lord and Savior of your life, 00:02:50.70\00:02:52.60 and you're willing to go and tell 00:02:52.63\00:02:53.97 what He's done for you. 00:02:54.00\00:02:55.34 Our greatest asset is our own personal testimony 00:02:55.37\00:02:57.97 what God has done for us. 00:02:58.01\00:02:59.34 Not what we read or tell somebody, 00:02:59.37\00:03:01.38 nobody can argue with my testimony 00:03:01.41\00:03:03.38 or your testimony or your testimony. 00:03:03.41\00:03:06.01 So when you have that relationship with Jesus, 00:03:06.05\00:03:08.58 all you have to do is go tell him 00:03:08.62\00:03:09.98 what He's done for you. 00:03:10.02\00:03:11.95 And long as we do that we've submitted committed our, 00:03:11.99\00:03:15.59 you know, life to Jesus. 00:03:15.62\00:03:18.03 We have nothing but good ahead. 00:03:18.06\00:03:19.39 I mean, it's we win. 00:03:19.43\00:03:21.46 That's right. 00:03:21.50\00:03:22.83 Have you ever asked the question why me, Lord? 00:03:22.86\00:03:26.63 Now what I say is why not? 00:03:26.67\00:03:28.27 Okay. 00:03:28.30\00:03:29.64 I say why not me? 00:03:29.67\00:03:31.01 In other words, there are 6.5, 7 billion people 00:03:31.04\00:03:33.01 on planet earth. 00:03:33.04\00:03:34.38 My dad just tell me when I was a kid, 00:03:34.41\00:03:36.78 dad I really wanna do, 00:03:36.81\00:03:38.28 I really, he'd say, son, I think something so important. 00:03:38.31\00:03:40.98 He said, just look at your life. 00:03:41.02\00:03:43.08 You're a speck of sand on this earth. 00:03:43.12\00:03:45.82 You're no better than anybody else. 00:03:45.85\00:03:47.46 You're no less than anybody else. 00:03:47.49\00:03:49.29 But whatever happens to you, 00:03:49.32\00:03:50.79 the Bible says "Rain's gonna fall 00:03:50.83\00:03:52.39 on the just as well as the unjust." 00:03:52.43\00:03:54.73 So that's not important. 00:03:54.76\00:03:56.23 What's happening right now is not important, 00:03:56.26\00:03:58.27 the important decision 00:03:58.30\00:03:59.63 you can make is serving the Lord. 00:03:59.67\00:04:02.04 So that when the short 10 years, 00:04:02.07\00:04:04.24 50 years, 100 years is over, you have eternity. 00:04:04.27\00:04:08.11 So for me, why not? The devil is out to steal, 00:04:08.14\00:04:10.85 kill and destroy. 00:04:10.88\00:04:12.21 Dr. Marcum, if we didn't, 00:04:12.25\00:04:13.58 and, Nick, if we didn't experience sin, 00:04:13.62\00:04:16.65 we wouldn't appreciate heaven. 00:04:16.69\00:04:18.19 We would see no reason 00:04:18.22\00:04:20.09 to serve the Lord if we were gods here, 00:04:20.12\00:04:22.42 and we could live and everything. 00:04:22.46\00:04:23.96 But when people get down, and you go through, you know, 00:04:23.99\00:04:27.96 circumstances and trials, 00:04:28.00\00:04:30.37 that's when you become, suddenly you say, 00:04:30.40\00:04:32.43 "Well, how immortal or how mortal I really am." 00:04:32.47\00:04:35.87 Immortality only comes later. 00:04:35.90\00:04:37.87 So now what happens to me when I die by the way? 00:04:37.91\00:04:42.38 You know, we got everything going our way, 00:04:42.41\00:04:44.65 money, job, everything we want, we get independent. 00:04:44.68\00:04:48.35 And then all of a sudden things go, 00:04:48.38\00:04:50.52 but so these are good things. 00:04:50.55\00:04:52.12 In the valley, He restores our soul. 00:04:52.15\00:04:54.06 So praise God. Nobody enjoys it. 00:04:54.09\00:04:57.03 You're going through crisis is not fun. 00:04:57.06\00:04:59.89 But on the other hand, 00:04:59.93\00:05:01.26 if it's for purification gold refined in the fire. 00:05:01.30\00:05:03.93 Hey, let's do it. Yeah. 00:05:03.97\00:05:06.13 Now I've taken care of lots of patients 00:05:06.17\00:05:08.50 and sent people for bypass. 00:05:08.54\00:05:09.90 I've never had it. 00:05:09.94\00:05:11.27 So I don't really know what it feels like. 00:05:11.31\00:05:13.71 But many of my patients come back saying, you know, 00:05:13.74\00:05:16.88 that they've changed inside they're more emotional, 00:05:16.91\00:05:20.12 a lot of them have more fears and anxieties. 00:05:20.15\00:05:22.25 Have you had some of those 00:05:22.28\00:05:23.62 natural feelings after the bypass? 00:05:23.65\00:05:26.09 Just shortly afterwards, 00:05:26.12\00:05:27.62 maybe while I was still taking some strong 00:05:27.66\00:05:30.03 medicine like amiodarone, I think, 00:05:30.06\00:05:32.29 a few of those, your emotions can do things 00:05:32.33\00:05:35.66 and I think that has to do with your sleep. 00:05:35.70\00:05:37.73 I had to do that for a few months. 00:05:37.77\00:05:39.10 Once I got off of that. 00:05:39.13\00:05:40.90 My everythin seemed to go back to normal 00:05:40.94\00:05:43.44 and maybe better. 00:05:43.47\00:05:44.97 The thing I experienced 13 days I'm home. 00:05:45.01\00:05:48.88 And I do a video with my wife on Facebook. 00:05:48.91\00:05:52.38 People are asking, how you doing? 00:05:52.41\00:05:54.02 And I say, "The Lord has blessed. 00:05:54.05\00:05:56.05 Thirteen days later and I'm dressed in my clothes. 00:05:56.08\00:05:58.19 I'm sitting up in the worship room. 00:05:58.22\00:06:00.09 And telling how good God is 00:06:00.12\00:06:02.16 and how He brought me through it." 00:06:02.19\00:06:03.93 And I put down the video go sit in the kitchen 00:06:03.96\00:06:06.49 about an hour or two later, 00:06:06.53\00:06:08.10 I feel my pulse. 00:06:08.13\00:06:09.76 Suddenly, my neck is doing like this 00:06:09.80\00:06:11.87 you can actually see it and my pulse is racing. 00:06:11.90\00:06:15.84 You know everything, my blood pressure is going up 00:06:15.87\00:06:18.64 and bottom numbers almost 120 and that's what worries me 00:06:18.67\00:06:23.11 more than the top number so much, 00:06:23.14\00:06:24.88 you know, so it was only 180 or 190 00:06:24.91\00:06:27.35 whatever but bottom number 120 and raising. 00:06:27.38\00:06:30.29 My pulse is up to around 170 or 175. 00:06:30.32\00:06:33.12 And mine's always slow. 00:06:33.15\00:06:34.72 I'm 60, you know there 00:06:34.76\00:06:37.63 that so we went to the hospital, Carbondale. 00:06:37.66\00:06:40.33 My wife took me down there. They did all kinds of stuff. 00:06:40.36\00:06:43.60 And it didn't help, didn't stop, 00:06:43.63\00:06:45.57 and then actually they said well, 00:06:45.60\00:06:46.94 his heart starting to pause now. 00:06:46.97\00:06:48.80 So now we got to quit everything. 00:06:48.84\00:06:50.87 And so they just kind of sedated me some and... 00:06:50.91\00:06:53.07 So you've developed atrial fibrillation? 00:06:53.11\00:06:55.24 AFib, yes. 00:06:55.28\00:06:56.61 So that happened but by the next morning 00:06:56.64\00:06:59.25 about seven in the morning it just went back 00:06:59.28\00:07:01.15 into sinus rhythm. 00:07:01.18\00:07:02.58 And it's been good ever since, I haven't experienced that 00:07:02.62\00:07:06.22 all these months later, or a year, 00:07:06.25\00:07:08.59 you know, nearly year and a half, whatever. 00:07:08.62\00:07:10.86 Now I have a question with you 00:07:10.89\00:07:12.29 and everyone's a little bit different. 00:07:12.33\00:07:14.30 Do you think it would have been beneficial 00:07:14.33\00:07:15.93 to know all the things that could happen 00:07:15.96\00:07:18.43 after the surgery, you know, 00:07:18.47\00:07:19.80 some of the things happen, some of the things don't, 00:07:19.83\00:07:21.27 but atrial fibrillation is a very common thing 00:07:21.30\00:07:24.04 after surgery 'cause, you know, 00:07:24.07\00:07:25.41 we manipulate the atrium, it takes some time to heal too. 00:07:25.44\00:07:29.31 Heart failure building up fluid in the lungs 00:07:29.34\00:07:31.71 and not getting the lungs to expand in short, 00:07:31.75\00:07:33.78 it's very common, 00:07:33.82\00:07:35.38 not sleeping well at night is very common, 00:07:35.42\00:07:38.29 not going to the bathroom quite as well is very common. 00:07:38.32\00:07:41.86 Do you think a physician should tell patients 00:07:41.89\00:07:44.89 all that 'cause I've sort of, you know, 00:07:44.93\00:07:46.39 'cause you have to know your patient, 00:07:46.43\00:07:47.76 some people if it's not gonna happen, 00:07:47.80\00:07:50.70 why scare them? 00:07:50.73\00:07:52.07 You know, what do you think it'd been beneficial 00:07:52.10\00:07:54.60 to know that this could happen 00:07:54.64\00:07:56.04 or just know that you need to get help 00:07:56.07\00:07:58.21 if something doesn't feel right. 00:07:58.24\00:07:59.64 Every surgeon, every hospital ought to have this program, 00:07:59.67\00:08:03.65 the Ultimate Prescriptions to give to each patient 00:08:03.68\00:08:06.45 before the surgery 00:08:06.48\00:08:08.78 because what you're doing here is incredible. 00:08:08.82\00:08:11.15 And you're exactly right. 00:08:11.19\00:08:12.52 I wish somebody would have told me all these things. 00:08:12.55\00:08:15.99 They don't wanna be too negative, 00:08:16.02\00:08:17.39 they're afraid you don't want the surgery, 00:08:17.43\00:08:19.23 but they don't wanna promise you too much either. 00:08:19.26\00:08:21.86 So you're kind of in this window, 00:08:21.90\00:08:23.97 you ask somebody that, "Well, I'll ask him." 00:08:24.00\00:08:26.47 He tells you this. 00:08:26.50\00:08:27.84 You ask somebody else, 00:08:27.87\00:08:29.20 they give you a totally different, 00:08:29.24\00:08:30.64 you know, so now you don't know what to expect. 00:08:30.67\00:08:33.34 So it yes. 00:08:33.38\00:08:36.21 So you think knowledge would help relay this. 00:08:36.24\00:08:38.38 Tremendously. 00:08:38.41\00:08:39.75 So I try to tell people, 00:08:39.78\00:08:41.12 you know, after the bypass surgery, 00:08:41.15\00:08:43.39 it's natural for your heart to go fast sometimes. 00:08:43.42\00:08:46.65 And if it does happen, here's the algorithm. 00:08:46.69\00:08:49.16 Don't panic because that's gonna make things worse. 00:08:49.19\00:08:51.89 Just say, "You know, do some deep breaths 00:08:51.93\00:08:54.00 that hasn't gone away in 30 minutes, 00:08:54.03\00:08:55.70 you need to go the hospital." 00:08:55.73\00:08:57.33 And in the hospital, we can take care of that. 00:08:57.37\00:08:59.13 As long as you're not passing out 00:08:59.17\00:09:00.97 and breathing okay, it's not gonna kill you, 00:09:01.00\00:09:03.57 but we need to deal with it 00:09:03.61\00:09:04.94 'cause this is a common complication 00:09:04.97\00:09:06.88 after we have bypass surgery. 00:09:06.91\00:09:09.68 So you feel that would have helped you out some? 00:09:09.71\00:09:12.05 Tremendously, yeah. 00:09:12.08\00:09:13.42 And they did a great job actually. 00:09:13.45\00:09:14.78 Now yours went away on its own? 00:09:14.82\00:09:16.18 Is that correct? Well, I think so. 00:09:16.22\00:09:18.42 I don't know what they would give me, 00:09:18.45\00:09:19.79 it just didn't work that night 00:09:19.82\00:09:21.16 but during the night Yvonne sat there and she said, 00:09:21.19\00:09:23.06 you know, you finally went to sleep. 00:09:23.09\00:09:24.86 And then about 7 o'clock they came in and said okay... 00:09:24.89\00:09:27.80 And sometimes though it doesn't go away so quickly, 00:09:27.83\00:09:30.57 and we do have to do a procedure 00:09:30.60\00:09:32.00 called a cardioversion 00:09:32.03\00:09:33.54 where we shock the heart back in rhythm. 00:09:33.57\00:09:35.50 Yeah, I was dreading that. 00:09:35.54\00:09:36.87 And we usually, lot of doctors don't say, 00:09:36.91\00:09:38.67 but a lot of these medicines that we use 00:09:38.71\00:09:40.98 after the bypass surgery, 00:09:41.01\00:09:43.01 they're just there until the body heals. 00:09:43.04\00:09:45.51 And sometimes the doctors 00:09:45.55\00:09:46.92 can take away them one at a time. 00:09:46.95\00:09:49.52 And then which medicines we use long-term to help slow down 00:09:49.55\00:09:53.39 genetic aging depends on 00:09:53.42\00:09:55.99 the side effects a person might have. 00:09:56.02\00:09:58.76 Did you have any medicines that didn't agree with you? 00:09:58.79\00:10:01.26 Oh, yes. 00:10:01.30\00:10:02.63 Yeah, and sometimes we have that 00:10:02.66\00:10:04.00 and you just say what the symptoms are. 00:10:04.03\00:10:05.73 And we can stop that and try something else. 00:10:05.77\00:10:08.17 And it seemed to me this one particular medicine, 00:10:08.20\00:10:11.01 it even affects you emotionally. 00:10:11.04\00:10:13.17 Like your mind will say things or you might say things 00:10:13.21\00:10:16.81 that you wouldn't normally say, 00:10:16.85\00:10:19.21 and you don't really realize it at the time or later, 00:10:19.25\00:10:21.58 you say, "Well, I made a dumb decision. 00:10:21.62\00:10:23.75 Why did I think this, 00:10:23.79\00:10:25.82 but I noticed as soon as I got off of it, 00:10:25.85\00:10:27.82 it wasn't very long." 00:10:27.86\00:10:29.79 I don't know if two weeks, three weeks, 00:10:29.82\00:10:31.86 all of a sudden, I'm back to being normal. 00:10:31.89\00:10:34.60 And I didn't, I'm not been one person 00:10:34.63\00:10:36.43 in my life to get depressed. 00:10:36.46\00:10:38.40 But if anybody has that tendency, 00:10:38.43\00:10:41.17 I would think some of this medication 00:10:41.20\00:10:42.77 could get you depressed so prepare for that. 00:10:42.80\00:10:45.47 But understand that every day 00:10:45.51\00:10:47.08 you got to stay close to the Lord. 00:10:47.11\00:10:48.71 And that's your answer 00:10:48.74\00:10:50.58 'cause He's gonna give you peace 00:10:50.61\00:10:52.15 in the midst of the storm. 00:10:52.18\00:10:53.62 Yeah, and that's such a wonderful promise... 00:10:53.65\00:10:56.42 That's a wonderful peace to have that. 00:10:56.45\00:10:59.12 So after the bypass surgery, 00:10:59.15\00:11:02.82 I know you probably got going a little bit quicker 00:11:02.86\00:11:05.63 than your doctors would want you to get going. 00:11:05.66\00:11:07.20 I didn't. 00:11:07.23\00:11:08.56 Did they tell you that you shouldn't do heavy lifting 00:11:08.60\00:11:09.93 and pulling for about six months? 00:11:09.96\00:11:11.83 Yeah, they did. 00:11:11.87\00:11:13.20 And I tried not to do that heavy lifting. 00:11:13.23\00:11:15.34 But at walking, I was when I would go 00:11:15.37\00:11:18.11 to therapy over to Herrin. 00:11:18.14\00:11:19.97 About three days a week I was on treadmills 00:11:20.01\00:11:22.74 and now always worried about what everybody else is doing 00:11:22.78\00:11:25.15 'cause I wanted to, you know, get there that thing 00:11:25.18\00:11:27.42 and you got to be the best you can be, 00:11:27.45\00:11:29.22 you know, but that they said fine, 00:11:29.25\00:11:31.49 but don't do the lifts. 00:11:31.52\00:11:32.85 I stayed away from that. I didn't wanna. 00:11:32.89\00:11:35.06 So you were good patient. 00:11:35.09\00:11:36.42 I have horse feeding stuff. 00:11:36.46\00:11:37.79 But, you know, Jason would 00:11:37.83\00:11:39.16 come over or somebody else and say, 00:11:39.19\00:11:40.53 "Hey, let me put that horse feed as 50 pounds and so." 00:11:40.56\00:11:43.67 I did stay away from that out this chest thing. 00:11:43.70\00:11:45.87 I didn't wanna mess with that. 00:11:45.90\00:11:47.24 I know you. It's wired shut. So I paid attention. 00:11:47.27\00:11:49.40 You know, where the bones take 00:11:49.44\00:11:51.51 about six to eight weeks to heal. 00:11:51.54\00:11:53.61 Yeah. 00:11:53.64\00:11:54.98 So if, you know, like if you had a broken arm, 00:11:55.01\00:11:56.64 you put it in a cast. 00:11:56.68\00:11:58.01 We can't put the whole body into cast. 00:11:58.05\00:12:00.18 We have to have that healing time 00:12:00.22\00:12:01.85 that the patients do and that's a natural 00:12:01.88\00:12:03.49 feeling to have aches and pain 00:12:03.52\00:12:05.55 in that area till the bone, the sternum heals up. 00:12:05.59\00:12:08.22 My surgeon said before you really do everything 00:12:08.26\00:12:10.86 that you've done before you're very active. 00:12:10.89\00:12:13.56 It could be 12 to 18 months. 00:12:13.60\00:12:15.46 Yeah. So don't, like, I always welcome my hands 00:12:15.50\00:12:17.57 for my grandkids 00:12:17.60\00:12:18.93 and every class reunion since I've got out of school. 00:12:18.97\00:12:21.87 I always welcome my hands. 00:12:21.90\00:12:23.57 They'll say, "Hey, can you still walk on your hands?" 00:12:23.61\00:12:25.87 I did had had my 50th one few months ago. 00:12:25.91\00:12:28.81 It was the first time I didn't, I was tempted to try it. 00:12:28.84\00:12:30.91 But I said, "No, no, I'm letting this thing heal." 00:12:30.95\00:12:33.25 And so maybe the next one Lord willing, 00:12:33.28\00:12:35.42 if I'm still there, I'll be able to, 00:12:35.45\00:12:37.09 so those puts a lot of stress and pressure 00:12:37.12\00:12:39.19 here and weight, but I'm not doing any of that. 00:12:39.22\00:12:41.42 I play a little basketball but not too much. 00:12:41.46\00:12:43.32 We're gonna talk about the basketball and, you know, 00:12:43.36\00:12:45.49 anything that causes this grunting 00:12:45.53\00:12:47.83 type thing surges the blood pressure, 00:12:47.86\00:12:50.43 and these surges in blood pressure causes 00:12:50.47\00:12:53.00 parts not to last as long. 00:12:53.03\00:12:54.37 Nick? 00:12:54.40\00:12:55.74 Yeah, I was just gonna ask 00:12:55.77\00:12:57.11 how long till you get back to playing basketball? 00:12:57.14\00:12:58.47 Well, I don't always know I'm not been back full-time 00:12:58.51\00:13:01.14 as I've been helping Jason, 00:13:01.18\00:13:02.68 Yvonne son, our son now to build a new house. 00:13:02.71\00:13:05.61 So when I get weekends or nights 00:13:05.65\00:13:08.42 we get lights on over there. 00:13:08.45\00:13:09.78 I can go work and also, but I still go shoot around. 00:13:09.82\00:13:12.42 So I like that. Okay, that's great. 00:13:12.45\00:13:14.79 We're gonna take a quick break, but there's more to come 00:13:14.82\00:13:16.93 as Danny shares more about 00:13:17.36\00:13:18.73 this being a blessing in his life, 00:13:18.76\00:13:20.10 and we'll be back with more in just a moment 00:13:20.13\00:13:21.86 on the Ultimate Prescription. 00:13:21.90\00:13:23.23
