Welcome back to the program, 00:00:01.06\00:00:02.09 I'm Charles Mills here with Dr. James Marcum 00:00:02.12\00:00:03.94 We're talking about... 00:00:03.97\00:00:05.75 Well, we're talking about finding truth. 00:00:05.78\00:00:08.08 We're talking about looking at evidence. 00:00:08.11\00:00:10.14 We're talking about searching 00:00:10.17\00:00:11.54 for what is right for us... Am I right? 00:00:11.57\00:00:13.20 Right, and you know, I was bringing up 00:00:13.23\00:00:15.96 sometimes people will ask a question, 00:00:15.99\00:00:18.11 and they'll want to take that answer 00:00:18.14\00:00:21.70 and apply it to large amounts of people. 00:00:21.73\00:00:23.88 And sometimes that will just be applied specifically 00:00:23.91\00:00:27.22 for you - because of your circumstances, 00:00:27.25\00:00:30.19 what you're going through and you can't generalize 00:00:30.22\00:00:32.89 that to a large number of people. 00:00:32.92\00:00:34.38 But we need a place to begin. 00:00:34.41\00:00:35.71 Yes, you need sort of a direction... 00:00:35.74\00:00:37.99 But, you know, like they ask me all the time, 00:00:38.02\00:00:40.02 "Should I do this?" 00:00:40.05\00:00:41.08 Well, it depends - it depends on lots of factors. 00:00:41.11\00:00:44.79 Well everyone's doing it! 00:00:44.82\00:00:46.12 Well that doesn't mean it's right for YOU! 00:00:46.15\00:00:49.19 So there's a little bit of relationship based on 00:00:49.22\00:00:52.62 individuals, based on looking at the big picture 00:00:52.65\00:00:54.92 for that person and sometimes I'm afraid that in this world 00:00:54.95\00:00:59.11 that we're going to generalize it and say, 00:00:59.14\00:01:01.02 "This is what the data says; this is what you get, 00:01:01.05\00:01:03.58 this is what you get, this is what you get. " 00:01:03.61\00:01:05.65 Your answer has already been given based on these studies. 00:01:05.68\00:01:10.18 When we look at the studies, then we find 00:01:10.21\00:01:12.04 the general information and the direction to go, 00:01:12.07\00:01:14.09 and then we adjust it for ourselves. 00:01:14.12\00:01:15.82 Remember, they are recommendations. 00:01:15.85\00:01:17.51 They're not absolutes, they're recommendations 00:01:17.54\00:01:20.11 and they're not absolutes. Okay, all right 00:01:20.14\00:01:21.96 heartwiseministries. org is the website 00:01:21.99\00:01:24.49 for you to send your questions in to this program, 00:01:24.52\00:01:27.14 and we've received a lot of them. 00:01:27.17\00:01:28.89 And, let's talk about these questions here, Dr. Marcum 00:01:28.92\00:01:32.04 The first one - "I have fibroids, what are they, 00:01:32.07\00:01:35.87 and are they dangerous?" 00:01:35.90\00:01:37.07 Okay... Sounds kind of strange. 00:01:37.10\00:01:38.49 Fibroids are connective tissue that gets in the uterus, 00:01:38.52\00:01:43.72 and those can be dangerous if they grow really big, 00:01:43.75\00:01:47.88 and they cause bleeding. 00:01:47.91\00:01:49.13 Fibroids can sometimes cause bleeding and in that case, 00:01:49.16\00:01:52.20 the woman would have to have a hysterectomy 00:01:52.23\00:01:54.19 if it causes bleeding. 00:01:54.22\00:01:55.30 But most fibroids, people don't even know they have, 00:01:55.33\00:01:58.81 and they aren't dangerous and we keep an eye on it by 00:01:58.84\00:02:01.36 a simple test called "ultrasound" to see if the 00:02:01.39\00:02:03.99 fibroid is getting any bigger. 00:02:04.02\00:02:05.99 Sort of like a small cyst in there. 00:02:06.02\00:02:07.63 As long as it's not squishing anything or causing any 00:02:07.66\00:02:10.37 problem, it's not a big problem. 00:02:10.40\00:02:11.91 So a lot of people say, "My doctor says I have a fibroid!" 00:02:11.94\00:02:14.33 And they get all concerned; lots of people have fibroids. 00:02:14.36\00:02:17.30 As long as you keep an eye on it, 00:02:17.33\00:02:19.32 it's usually not a big, major issue unless it starts to bleed. 00:02:19.35\00:02:23.14 Where do you usually have a fibroid, where are they? 00:02:23.17\00:02:24.66 In the uterus - that's the only one place it can happen. 00:02:24.69\00:02:27.37 Okay, question #2 from heartwiseministries. org 00:02:27.40\00:02:31.07 "I had breast cancer in situ" Yes, cancer that has not spread, 00:02:31.10\00:02:39.98 Okay... "Breast cancer in situ and the tumor is estrogen 00:02:40.01\00:02:43.17 and progesterone positive. " 00:02:43.20\00:02:44.96 "I have hot flashes, what should I do?" 00:02:44.99\00:02:49.26 Well first I would, you know... remember we had said 00:02:49.29\00:02:51.76 let's talk to your doctor; he knows all of the details 00:02:51.79\00:02:55.16 of your life much better, but in general, 00:02:55.19\00:02:58.43 some things that women can do, the estrogen receptor positive, 00:02:58.46\00:03:02.90 those are the ones that would NOT want to take 00:03:02.93\00:03:04.77 estrogen replacements because 00:03:04.80\00:03:06.15 that could actually feed the cancer. That makes sense. 00:03:06.18\00:03:08.85 Another thing that we want to do is extra fat tissue 00:03:08.88\00:03:13.32 ...that's where estrogen is converted peripherally, 00:03:13.35\00:03:16.58 so we want people that have had a history of breast cancer 00:03:16.61\00:03:19.39 to try to work as hard as they can to get as much 00:03:19.42\00:03:22.43 extra tissue off their body, especially the fat tissue. 00:03:22.46\00:03:25.23 That will also help their chance of doing well. 00:03:25.26\00:03:27.56 We also know that women that eat healthy, 00:03:27.59\00:03:30.12 eat lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains, 00:03:30.16\00:03:32.80 as well as an exercise program, get the weight off; 00:03:32.83\00:03:35.44 they do better with this type of cancer as well. 00:03:35.47\00:03:39.14 These are all some things that they can do to help. 00:03:39.17\00:03:41.30 We want to be positive. 00:03:41.33\00:03:43.11 Here's a question here and I hear some longing, 00:03:43.14\00:03:47.14 and some pleading in this voice. 00:03:47.17\00:03:49.34 "What are a woman's greatest health risk, 00:03:49.37\00:03:51.77 I am 86 and afraid of breaking a bone. " 00:03:51.80\00:03:54.99 Wow! And as you go through time, the greatest risk of 00:03:55.02\00:04:01.32 a woman is heart disease. 00:04:01.35\00:04:02.98 That's even greater than breast cancer. 00:04:03.01\00:04:05.51 But, as you get older, depending on your health history, 00:04:05.54\00:04:09.02 depending on your genetics, ... you know, certain things 00:04:09.05\00:04:11.53 might not run in your family... and I share her concern. 00:04:11.56\00:04:15.86 She is 86, maybe she hasn't had a heart problem... 00:04:15.90\00:04:19.44 so she does have a significant risk of breaking a bone. 00:04:19.47\00:04:22.98 And, I see people in my office every day that have weak bones, 00:04:23.01\00:04:27.15 and I tell them - I know it's hard, but you gotta get up 00:04:27.18\00:04:30.20 and keep moving and eat a healthy diet, 00:04:30.23\00:04:33.00 and you have to move all the body parts, 00:04:33.03\00:04:35.49 be very careful - don't be too proud to have a walker 00:04:35.52\00:04:39.27 that you carry with you, to hang on to something, 00:04:39.30\00:04:42.44 to make your house handicap-safe. 00:04:42.47\00:04:46.12 And it's easy for me to stress this because I literally see 00:04:46.15\00:04:49.23 people every week that are in their 80s and 90s 00:04:49.26\00:04:52.00 that fall down and break a bone, especially a hip, 00:04:52.03\00:04:55.34 and that can be devastating, the pain that goes with that. 00:04:55.37\00:04:58.82 So these little things can help but greatest risk, 00:04:58.85\00:05:02.12 in general, for women is heart disease. 00:05:02.15\00:05:05.72 That's the greatest chance of having a problem, 00:05:05.75\00:05:08.06 but yes, having a fall is another issue. 00:05:08.09\00:05:11.34 We see more and more people getting memory problems 00:05:11.37\00:05:13.97 as they get older - that's another problem 00:05:14.00\00:05:16.08 that we have to add in there. 00:05:16.11\00:05:17.52 So there are lots of different things that go into that, 00:05:17.55\00:05:21.04 and, you know, I want to give her some hope. 00:05:21.07\00:05:25.07 We're lucky that we have a God in heaven that's going to 00:05:25.10\00:05:28.50 take care of us and we just have to trust that 00:05:28.53\00:05:32.13 He's going to take care of us and we have to just do the 00:05:32.16\00:05:34.19 best we can with these health principles and be so careful. 00:05:34.22\00:05:38.04 If a person is usually fearful of breaking a bone, 00:05:38.07\00:05:41.33 that tells me that they are probably 00:05:41.36\00:05:42.92 a little bit unsteady on their feet, 00:05:42.95\00:05:44.66 and they have to be careful, 00:05:44.69\00:05:46.32 don't be too proud to have a walker. 00:05:46.35\00:05:48.20 So what can they do to strengthen their bones? 00:05:48.23\00:05:49.73 We've talked about this in other shows. 00:05:49.76\00:05:50.84 Walking, weightbearing; of course, eat a healthy diet, 00:05:50.87\00:05:54.75 but even people that do all of that, 00:05:54.78\00:05:57.33 still occasionally break bones... 00:05:57.36\00:05:59.84 And even though you do everything perfect, 00:05:59.87\00:06:01.73 sometimes the bones still get weak. 00:06:01.76\00:06:04.00 That's why being CAREFUL is so important! 00:06:04.03\00:06:07.73 Don't take chances, don't do things that might 00:06:07.76\00:06:10.22 make you wobbly or fall, because as we age, 00:06:10.25\00:06:13.11 our balance, our nerves in our feet, our nerves in our ear, 00:06:13.14\00:06:17.12 aren't as sharp, so we're more 00:06:17.15\00:06:18.76 likely to fall over the older we get. 00:06:18.79\00:06:22.01 So, I'm sorry to have to say this, lady... 00:06:22.04\00:06:23.53 but - no skydiving! 00:06:23.56\00:06:24.99 All right... "What are some foods with 00:06:25.02\00:06:27.27 omega-3 fatty acids?" 00:06:27.30\00:06:28.85 Why is this person asking about 00:06:28.88\00:06:30.33 what omega-3 can really do for you? 00:06:30.36\00:06:31.61 They have been in the news all over, the fatty acids, 00:06:31.64\00:06:35.43 because the healthy fats help thin out the blood 00:06:35.46\00:06:38.67 and they also help with inflammation... 00:06:38.70\00:06:41.06 And lots of people have inflammation, 00:06:41.09\00:06:43.03 and there are lots of people 00:06:43.06\00:06:44.18 out there selling all sorts of products. 00:06:44.21\00:06:47.01 But some simple things that I use in my diet 00:06:47.04\00:06:49.44 that you might want to try are things like... 00:06:49.47\00:06:51.24 walnuts, almonds, and flax; 00:06:51.27\00:06:55.95 things like that have omega-3 in it that are easily 00:06:55.98\00:06:59.39 brought in for digestion. 00:06:59.42\00:07:00.66 There are many other foods that have it in there. 00:07:00.69\00:07:03.23 You can look and go through the foods and see which ones 00:07:03.26\00:07:06.62 that you actually like to eat because that's important. 00:07:06.65\00:07:09.28 If you don't like to eat it, 00:07:09.31\00:07:10.54 you're probably not going to eat it. 00:07:10.57\00:07:11.91 ...But most people can do pretty good with flax 00:07:11.94\00:07:14.53 because they could have flax grounds, 00:07:14.56\00:07:16.16 and they can put it on top of different things. 00:07:16.19\00:07:18.21 Now ground flax - Yeah ground flax. 00:07:18.24\00:07:20.81 They can put it on oatmeal 00:07:20.84\00:07:22.49 or they can put it on their cereal. 00:07:22.52\00:07:24.00 And, it doesn't take a whole lot to get the amount of 00:07:24.03\00:07:26.25 omega-3's you need to help with inflammation, 00:07:26.28\00:07:28.50 that kind of thing... Do you know why you need to 00:07:28.54\00:07:31.12 grind flaxseeds? Do you know why? 00:07:31.16\00:07:32.79 No, tell me Charles. I'll tell you. 00:07:32.82\00:07:34.01 I learned this from Dr. Hans Diehl... 00:07:34.04\00:07:35.20 It's the same reason you need to chew nuts and chew your food. 00:07:35.23\00:07:39.44 That when you chew food, you actually are releasing 00:07:39.47\00:07:43.71 the omega-3 fatty acids. 00:07:43.74\00:07:45.66 If you just swallowed them whole, 00:07:45.69\00:07:47.28 your body doesn't release it, 00:07:47.31\00:07:48.37 the chewing does it. That makes sense! 00:07:48.41\00:07:51.18 And flaxseeds are too small to chew. Okay 00:07:51.21\00:07:53.95 So you have to have like a blender or something 00:07:53.98\00:07:56.76 that will grind them up into a powder. 00:07:56.79\00:07:58.07 Then you put that powder on top of your cereal. 00:07:58.10\00:07:59.65 You know, that is so practical for people out there. 00:07:59.68\00:08:03.05 I think that that will help some people out, thanks Charles. 00:08:03.08\00:08:05.74 So chew your food or if it's flaxseeds, 00:08:05.77\00:08:07.71 grind it in a coffee grinder and you're good to go. 00:08:07.74\00:08:11.59 It releases the fatty acids, the omega-3's 00:08:11.62\00:08:14.32 Okay... This is an important question here 00:08:14.35\00:08:17.46 because I'm sure that you get this a lot. 00:08:17.49\00:08:18.75 "What role does diet have in breast cancer?" 00:08:18.78\00:08:21.72 Yeah, we touched on this earlier. 00:08:21.75\00:08:24.40 Diet is very important because of the estrogen, 00:08:24.43\00:08:27.40 especially if they're estrogen tumor-positive, 00:08:27.43\00:08:30.12 and also for your general health. 00:08:30.15\00:08:31.98 We want people to be as healthy as they can 00:08:32.01\00:08:34.41 to make their immune system strong, 00:08:34.44\00:08:36.61 because if you have cancer in your body 00:08:36.64\00:08:38.97 from whatever caused it, whether it's genetics 00:08:39.00\00:08:41.56 or toxins, or a combination of things, 00:08:41.59\00:08:43.95 you want to have the strongest immune system that you can - 00:08:43.98\00:08:48.43 ...which includes not only eating good foods, 00:08:48.46\00:08:50.94 getting rest, being mentally strong, getting exercise, 00:08:50.97\00:08:56.07 it encompasses spiritual life. 00:08:56.10\00:08:58.25 Your spiritual life will help as well. 00:08:58.28\00:09:00.14 All of these aspects are things 00:09:00.17\00:09:01.84 that can help your immune systems, 00:09:01.87\00:09:03.54 and the immune system is so wonderful. 00:09:03.57\00:09:05.54 Charles, our immune cells fight to the death. 00:09:05.57\00:09:08.16 Yes they do - literally! They fight to the death! 00:09:08.19\00:09:10.87 Cancer cells are takers. 00:09:10.90\00:09:12.55 They're not good cells, I don't like cancer cells. 00:09:12.58\00:09:15.21 But immune cells are good cells and we want to give them 00:09:15.24\00:09:17.39 all the help we can do to function well, 00:09:17.42\00:09:20.01 and a healthy diet really helps our immune system quite a bit. 00:09:20.04\00:09:24.38 I know I have lots of other questions in there too. 00:09:24.41\00:09:26.60 Yeah, as I listen to you talk here about these, 00:09:26.63\00:09:31.94 I see an element of fear in here. 00:09:31.97\00:09:34.53 I see people who are afraid of falling, 00:09:34.56\00:09:36.92 who are afraid of cancer, 00:09:36.95\00:09:38.66 who are afraid of the bumps and the nodules on their body, 00:09:38.69\00:09:42.64 they are fearful. 00:09:42.67\00:09:43.87 Should we be afraid, are we too afraid, 00:09:43.90\00:09:46.93 or how can we use fear as a good tool? 00:09:46.96\00:09:49.99 Well, you know, I want people to be concerned. 00:09:50.02\00:09:52.70 That's a better word - sometimes maybe we don't use 00:09:52.73\00:09:55.01 the right word; maybe the word is just concerned. 00:09:55.04\00:09:57.70 People are concerned about them because they haven't 00:09:57.73\00:10:00.55 felt this way before. 00:10:00.58\00:10:01.61 This is a new feeling or a new finding. 00:10:01.64\00:10:03.72 Some people are concerned, then some people ARE fearful. 00:10:03.75\00:10:07.84 When they are preoccupied by it, 00:10:07.87\00:10:10.81 and they are scared to death by it, that is not a good thing, 00:10:10.84\00:10:14.08 And some of the biblical principles 00:10:14.11\00:10:17.14 we talked over before include... 00:10:17.18\00:10:18.21 ...Reassurance - that's very important when people are scared 00:10:18.24\00:10:21.99 Programs like this can reassure you that this is something that 00:10:22.02\00:10:25.27 you can not worry about as much. 00:10:25.30\00:10:29.27 ...Love - Love casts out fear. 00:10:29.30\00:10:32.05 That relationship we have with each other and with God 00:10:32.08\00:10:34.77 that helps us deal with these things. 00:10:34.80\00:10:36.65 ...Worship - "Come unto me. " 00:10:36.68\00:10:39.20 As we do those things that are biblical, 00:10:39.23\00:10:41.77 and you know what, sometimes we still do those 00:10:41.80\00:10:43.65 things and we still could be scared of things, 00:10:43.68\00:10:45.58 but hopefully, it's just for a short period of time 00:10:45.61\00:10:47.93 until we can figure out- 00:10:47.97\00:10:49.10 NO, we don't need to be scared of that! 00:10:49.13\00:10:51.03 I'm just going to let that go! 00:10:51.06\00:10:52.33 So if you have fear, use it as a motivation to 00:10:52.36\00:10:54.89 try to get you INTO God's Word, into the scientific journals, 00:10:54.92\00:10:57.91 then onto the internet, use it as a motivation, 00:10:57.94\00:11:00.19 don't sit there and be consumed by it. 00:11:00.22\00:11:01.85 Yeah and a lot of the times, I do during the day, 00:11:01.88\00:11:04.64 is take care of people's concern. 00:11:04.67\00:11:07.28 Oh, I had chest pain.
