00:17 Today, we talk about the elephant in the room.
00:20 No, we're not at the zoo. 00:21 We're in our living rooms, our kitchens, our places of work 00:25 Do you see it? Stay tuned... 00:28 I'm Dr. James Marcum 00:31 Are you interested in discovering the reason why? 00:34 Do you want solutions to your healthcare problems? 00:37 Are you tired of taking medications? 00:40 Well, you're about to be given the "Ultimate Prescription" 00:46 I've noticed something interesting about many of my 00:49 friends and family members who 00:50 haven't chosen to live a healthy lifestyle. 00:53 They're ignoring evidence and that can be 00:55 downright deadly when it comes to health and longevity. 00:58 Evidence can be like an elephant in the room sitting quietly 01:02 nearby, totally ignored, totally wished-away. 01:06 Dr. Marcum, what are we missing? 01:08 Well I hope all of us aren't missing the elephant, Charles! 01:12 You know, that's pretty scary... 01:15 And coming up with different programs, 01:18 I always like to look at different sources, 01:21 and sometimes our viewers write us in, 01:24 they send this to our heartwiseministries. org 01:26 and give us great ideas, but you know what... 01:29 Charles, after you've made so many programs, 01:31 you say, "Wow, what would be 01:32 interesting for people to know about?" 01:35 And everyone asks me, how do we make our programs. 01:38 Well, one of the things I do, 01:39 I regularly review articles in the media and listen to people 01:44 especially in regards to health, 01:46 and that's how we're going to find out a little bit about 01:47 this elephant in the room. 01:49 I try to read as many sources as I can, 01:52 but as you can imagine, Charles, 01:54 it's sort of hard to sort things through. 01:57 You get the internet and different people have 01:59 their biases - the modern medicine, 02:01 and I have people that say 02:02 that this snake oil is the best thing ever and if you can 02:05 run 1 mile upside-down, that will fix you up. 02:08 All sorts of things, but my ears especially 02:12 perk up when it comes to biblical thoughts 02:14 on health and chemistry. 02:16 So anything biblical, I really start paying attention to, 02:19 and I look for evidence and everyone out there is 02:23 offering opinions. 02:24 Sometimes evidence is good, some have partial truths. 02:28 Some people unfortunately, Charles, are motivated by money. 02:33 Others, just want the truth to be known. 02:34 So it's hard to sort through and hopefully, 02:37 you're out there watching today and as you look at this program, 02:40 you can say, "Well I'm not just going to accept what's said, 02:43 I'm going to look at the evidence for everything 02:46 that's said - both the answers to your specific questions, 02:49 as well as the other. 02:51 So what I do - in coming up with the programs, 02:53 I look through what all the leading editors 02:55 and publishers are thinking about because chances are 02:58 if they think the topic is important, so will the readers. 03:02 But what I've noticed is that the editors and publishers 03:05 often leave out the most important ingredient... 03:09 That's that spiritual point, that connection with God. 03:12 So I bring this information to everyone with a 03:15 little bit different twist, but at the same time 03:18 remembering that information can be presented biased... 03:22 And I admit, I'm biased! 03:24 Are you biased, Charles? 03:25 I would assume so and I love where you're going 03:28 with this thing because I think God is biased, 03:29 but His bias is pure, He wants us healthy. 03:32 So what God says to us, we know there is no other 03:34 motivation other than to make us healthy. 03:36 Right, and I admit that when I bring these programs to everyone 03:39 I'm coming from a biblical bias 03:41 and I'm biased in that direction, 03:43 and everyone can just look at the truth and if you don't 03:46 believe in the Bible, go back and see if the Bible is true, 03:49 go through all that, but I think it's very worthy. 03:53 One of the interesting articles I read recently was the 03:56 Associated Press, Charles... 03:58 And I thought this was interesting, 04:00 and I wanted to bring it to everyone because it's useful. 04:04 The Associated Press, they have a watchdog group called 04:07 "The Center for Environmental Health" 04:09 Everyone is interested in the environment now. 04:13 You talked about the elephant in the room, 04:15 well one of the elephants in our room that we're not 04:18 paying attention to is what's going on in our environment. 04:21 We're paying attention to everything else. 04:22 Occasionally you hear about it. 04:24 Well, this group spent a lot of time and money 04:28 testing this thing called "caramel coloring" 04:31 Have you ever heard of caramel coloring? I've seen it used. 04:33 Yeah, they used it in soft drinks... Yes 04:36 And they went and they studied it and they found 04:39 that there was, in this caramel coloring, 04:42 a carcinogen, something that causes cancer, 04:46 called "4-Mel" and in the process of cooking 04:50 this chemical compound, this raised the chance of 04:53 developing a carcinogen, so guess what? 04:55 This group put a lot of pressure on the makers, 04:58 who've been making it for years and years and years. 05:01 So we've been getting this carcinogen, 05:02 this environmental toxin for years and we didn't know it, 05:05 and they said, "Listen, if you don't take it out, 05:07 we're going to put a cancer label right on your thing 05:10 just like we do on cigarettes. Wow, wow! 05:12 So they got their attention. 05:15 But when I look - now let's look at the big picture... 05:18 If you look at things objectively, 05:20 and I want everyone out there to look at things objectively... 05:22 Now when you look at the rates of cancer, 05:25 is it going up or down? 05:26 It's going up. Right 05:28 Chronic pain, mental health, heart attacks, 05:32 prescription medications! 05:34 The number of DEATHS - nothing is really getting better 05:38 So are we really addressing the problem? 05:41 So part of the problem we talked about before... 05:45 What's stressing the system? 05:46 What is ALSO going up there? 05:48 If these disease rates are going up, is there something else 05:51 in our lifestyle that's going up as well? 05:53 We talked about brain stress... 05:55 But now, today, I want to talk about a bit about 05:57 this "toxin" stress. 05:59 These toxins that are everywhere around us, 06:02 not that we're going to be able identify them all, 06:04 but just to realize, just like this 06:05 caramel-4 and this Mel, it's out there. 06:09 Because our toxic levels have gone up right in concert with 06:13 everything else. EVERYTHING ELSE... Yes 06:15 With our modern society, with our technology, 06:19 the toxins have gone up as well, 06:21 and with that, has come a chemical consequence, 06:24 stress on the system which creates these symptoms. 06:27 A lot of the cancers have been associated to all the toxins. 06:30 Now let me give you another example. 06:33 The group called "The Natural Society" 06:36 They just reported in the "Journal of Hematology" 06:39 a very well known journal, that showed this Bt toxin. 06:45 This Bt toxin is a toxin that's found in biopesticides. 06:49 Have you ever heard that? I've heard of it, yes. 06:51 We're going to talk a little bit about that. 06:53 But that's used in almost all GMO foods, 06:56 this biopesticide, to keep the insects from eating it. 07:01 And right now, GMO foods in the United States are planted on 07:04 about 3.9 million acres in the United States. 07:09 So in order to grow the crops to feed the world, 07:12 a toxin has been built into the fabric of the food 07:16 to protect the food from the insects. 07:20 For instance - genetically corn, you've heard about that. 07:24 Well anyway, they've showed that all these chemicals 07:27 that we've produced to protect these products, 07:29 ALSO could cause other health problems, 07:33 and other environmental toxins. 07:36 Charles - and these aren't the only toxins that are out there. 07:39 Now, let's just think for a second... 07:41 I've got a bunch more toxins. 07:43 I just want people to realize 07:45 that there's lots of toxins out there - mercury 07:48 Mercury is still floating around. 07:50 We didn't know it was a toxin for years. 07:53 Mercury has been out there, it's not good for us. 07:55 Toxins like arsenic - it's out there even though in trace 07:59 amounts, it's out there. 08:01 Copper? Copper can be a problem 08:05 for us in too much. 08:06 So there's lots of environmental toxins that are out there 08:10 that are affecting us in many different ways. 08:13 It's sort of scary when you think about it. 08:16 Now we're just going to talk a little bit about the 08:18 toxic chemicals, but what about the toxic noises? 08:23 What about the toxic air that we breathe? 08:26 It's all in there... you know, the air that we breathe 08:30 is filled with bad things and we breathe it in and out, 08:33 in and out, in and out. 08:34 The noise that we bring in, that's not good either. 08:37 Even some of the visual things 08:39 can be actually toxic to our environment. 08:42 So the GMOs, that's a big concern. 08:46 A lot of people are looking at that. 08:47 But I want to ask people - how many other chemical 08:50 additives are out there that have not even been tested. 08:54 I just want to share something here that would help our 08:57 viewers... 08:59 Every Sunday in West Virginia where I live, 09:03 I go to the little farmer's market they have there 09:05 in my small town and I asked the venders, 09:08 "Is this organically grown?" 09:11 And one vender smiled and very proudly took me over to where 09:15 the lettuce was and showed me a little piece of lettuce 09:17 and there was a little hole or 2 right there in the lettuce, 09:20 and he looked and said, "Now that proves that 09:23 it IS organically grown because 09:25 an insect wanted to eat that lettuce and what's good for the 09:28 insect, is good for people. " 09:30 So if you find a fruit or a vegetable that is 09:33 ABSOLUTELY PERFECT, an insect hasn't come 09:35 within 20 miles of this thing, BE-WARE 09:39 because insects are pretty smart. 09:41 They're smarter than we are; 09:42 they're not going to eat that stuff... 09:44 But when you find a fruit that might have a little defect 09:46 in there, a little nibble here and there, 09:48 insects are loving it, you will love it, 09:51 and your body will love it too. 09:52 Well that's a great point, Charles, 09:54 and I think as you were talking and I was thinking, 09:56 you know, we worry about disease and what causes disease, 10:02 well all these chemicals upset that beautiful 10:05 orchestra to balance and the less toxins we can have 10:09 from any source, the better we're going to be. 10:12 So our goal here is to let people know that there are 10:15 toxins out there, not be scared of the toxins. 10:19 You know, this is the world we live in... 10:20 let's talk about what are some practical... 10:23 You could only minimize it... Right 10:24 You can't get away from it, you can only minimize it. 10:27 What are some practical things that we can do 10:28 to help deal with all of our different toxins. 10:32 What are some things that we might do to DETOXIFY ourselves, 10:36 that we can maybe help pull the toxins out of ourselves. 10:39 These are some things we want to talk about, 10:42 but before we go to break, I want to just list, quickly, 10:45 8 chemicals that I want people to think about in their diets 10:49 that could be dangerous... 10:50 Artificial food dye - We see that in cake mixes, 10:54 colored foods - these are made from petroleum. 10:57 Petroleum is not good. 10:58 You're eating gasoline? Yes, that's not good. 11:01 Olestra - Have you heard of that substance, Olestra. 11:04 This lowers calorie counts, but also decreases the absorption 11:08 of vitamins and causes leaky bowels. 11:11 It's found in things like fat-free potato chips, 11:13 and it was used as a substitute for cooking oil. 11:16 Brominated vegetable oils - 11:18 Brominated - that doesn't even sound good. 11:20 Just "brominated" strikes fears. 11:22 But bromide is a chemical used to keep carpets from 11:26 catching on fire. We're eating this stuff? 11:29 Yes, and it's been linked to birth defects, schizophrenia, 11:31 growth problems, hearing loss. 11:33 Many countries are already banning these substances. 11:36 Another one - potassium bromate. 11:38 This is found in some wraps and rolls, bagel chips. 11:42 It's used to decrease baking time so people can 11:44 bake things quicker... 11:46 But it's been linked to kidney damage, cancer, 11:48 central nervous system disorder. 11:50 Europe, China, Canada have already banned it. 11:52 Already banned it! 11:53 This big one called "azodicarbonamide" 11:57 This is found in beached flour, yoga mats, tennis shoes, 12:01 as well as plastic - all sorts of problems with that one. 12:05 Another one - we've heard of this one "BHA-BHT" 12:08 Those help keep food from spoiling, 12:10 but they are also another food that linked to cancer. 12:14 We've heard of things like "growth hormones" 12:16 These can be found in milk, dairy products 12:19 passed from animals to us; delays fertility, 12:22 has fertility problems, muscle growth. 12:25 Arsenic - That's found in chicken feed - 12:27 that can be passed on to us, so there's lots of different... 12:30 and these are just the ones we know about. 12:32 The point I want to make is these are the ones we 12:34 know about that are getting press that have been banned 12:36 in other countries. 12:37 There are toxins around us; we have to be careful. 12:40 We have to come up with a plan. 12:42 So in a minute, we're going to talk about... 12:44 Well, what's a reasonable plan that we can take today 12:47 to stay healthy to help us avoid some of these toxins. 12:50 It is just amazing to me what we have allowed to happen 12:55 in this country... How can this be? 12:59 How can people be putting known toxins, known carcinogens 13:03 in our food supply on a regular basis, 13:05 and have been doing it for years! 13:07 The reason they've been able to do that is 13:09 because we haven't stopped them! 13:10 We haven't said "no" to that. 13:12 We keep buying this stuff. 13:14 If we would stop buying it, they'd stop putting it in there. 13:17 If we'd start making some noises... 13:18 and here's a good opportunity. 13:20 You've given us a list, we can follow that list 13:22 We can say, "Well no, I'm not going to buy this" 13:24 and as the sales go down, they'll take notice. 13:27 They'll see and I think we need to do that. 13:29 We need to become proactive in 13:30 what we're putting in our bodies. 13:32 Okay, when we come back, questions from 13:34 heartwiseministries. org 13:36 We really want you to send questions into us. 13:38 Tell us what you want us to talk about on this program 13:40 and we'll do it week after week, so stay right where you are! |
