Okay 00:02:44.13\00:02:45.70 And we measure the pressure when the heart pumps 00:02:45.73\00:02:47.99 and then the heart relaxes and there's still 00:02:48.02\00:02:50.05 pressure in the blood vessels. 00:02:50.08\00:02:51.24 We call that "diastolic pressure" 00:02:51.27\00:02:53.43 when the heart is relaxing. 00:02:53.46\00:02:54.75 We want that to be less than 90 00:02:54.78\00:02:57.37 Well when blood pressure is up for a long period of time, 00:02:57.40\00:03:00.70 it can damage that lining we talked about yesterday 00:03:00.73\00:03:03.73 called "endothelium" and it can damage it in all the organs. 00:03:03.76\00:03:07.27 So when a person comes in and 00:03:07.30\00:03:08.90 says they have high blood pressure, 00:03:08.93\00:03:10.51 the first thing I want to make 00:03:10.54\00:03:11.61 sure is if the reading is correct. 00:03:11.64\00:03:13.85 The second question I want to know is... 00:03:13.88\00:03:15.94 high blood pressure is a symptom... 00:03:15.97\00:03:17.87 WHY do they have high blood pressure? 00:03:17.90\00:03:20.10 You know, what is the cause? 00:03:20.40\00:03:21.65 Is it something scary happened? 00:03:21.68\00:03:23.91 Thank you... WHY do you have high blood pressure? 00:05:03.35\00:05:05.95 You know, and we go through all the different things 00:05:05.98\00:05:07.83 it could be - from sleep apnea to problems with the kidneys, 00:05:07.86\00:05:12.83 thyroid disease, chronic pain, chronic stress, 00:05:12.86\00:05:15.62 certain medications, DIET. 00:05:15.65\00:05:18.11 In other words, high blood pressure is a natural thing 00:05:18.14\00:05:20.32 the body does - it raises the pressure in the arteries; 00:05:20.35\00:05:24.53 your blood pressure goes up under certain circumstances 00:05:24.56\00:05:27.53 and that's a good thing when that happens. Yeah 00:05:27.56\00:05:29.05 But it should go right down, if it stays up all the time, 00:05:29.08\00:05:33.22 we look for the reason why because then it can 00:05:33.25\00:05:35.97 damage these blood vessels, cause endothelial damage 00:05:36.00\00:05:39.47 which predisposes to plaques. 00:05:39.50\00:05:40.94 It can cause aneurysms, lots of problems if it goes untreated. 00:05:40.97\00:05:44.30 High blood pressure can raise the chance of having stroke; 00:05:44.33\00:05:47.42 raise the chance of heart disease, kidney disease, 00:05:47.45\00:05:50.04 aneurysms - it affects, again, the whole body. 00:05:50.07\00:05:53.23 So once we determine a person has high blood pressure, 00:05:53.26\00:05:55.88 we want to know WHY. 00:05:55.91\00:05:57.20 So we start looking and, unfortunately, in this country 00:05:57.23\00:06:00.81 that we live in, a lot of people have high blood pressure 00:06:00.84\00:06:02.87 just because they carry extra weight. 00:06:02.90\00:06:05.07 Extra weight raises the blood pressure. 00:06:05.10\00:06:07.12 How does extra weight raise blood pressure? 00:06:07.15\00:06:08.75 When you have extra weight, usually people don't exercise 00:06:08.78\00:06:11.42 when they have extra weight. 00:06:11.45\00:06:12.90 It makes a bunch of chemicals that put stress on the body. 00:06:12.93\00:06:16.35 The stress cascade raises the blood pressure... 00:06:16.38\00:06:18.96 So extra weight - sometimes just losing extra weight 00:06:18.99\00:06:21.22 LOWERS blood pressure. 00:06:21.25\00:06:22.71 Any type of stress on the body - chronically 00:06:22.74\00:06:25.75 can raise blood pressure through chemicals like adrenalin. 00:06:25.78\00:06:29.22 So, we look and we see why a person has stress... 00:06:29.25\00:06:31.98 Some people have stress because of the food they eat. 00:06:32.01\00:06:35.21 There are certain foods that raise the blood pressure. 00:06:35.24\00:06:38.04 Let me give you an example... 00:06:38.07\00:06:39.21 People that eat high fat, high processed foods and diets 00:06:39.24\00:06:44.31 of what I call a "meat-based diet" - they have lots of 00:06:44.34\00:06:47.91 chemicals and lots of sodium in those things, 00:06:47.94\00:06:50.44 and when you do that, the viscosity of the blood gets 00:06:50.47\00:06:53.51 thicker because we have lots of fat in the blood. 00:06:53.54\00:06:55.78 I mean it literally gets thicker; 00:06:55.81\00:06:57.17 the blood gets sludgy... 00:06:57.20\00:06:58.30 Because we have this lipoprotein ... fat in the blood! 00:06:58.33\00:07:01.47 So fat in the blood, the blood gets sludgy. 00:07:01.50\00:07:03.74 We have shown that people that eat a plant-based diet 00:07:03.77\00:07:06.80 and drink lots of water, that helps get the 00:07:06.83\00:07:09.22 sludge out of the blood so the viscosity is less 00:07:09.25\00:07:17.12 so the blood pressure goes down. 00:07:17.15\00:07:18.87 Another thing that happens is this endothelial lining 00:07:18.90\00:07:21.89 can now get bigger. 00:07:21.92\00:07:22.95 So the process of eating a lot, 00:07:22.98\00:07:24.84 you get a bigger endothelium, you get less viscosity 00:07:24.87\00:07:27.83 that can also lower blood pressure. 00:07:27.86\00:07:30.04 So if diet is causing it and exercise - 00:07:30.07\00:07:32.71 Sometimes I can just simply recommend exercise 00:07:32.74\00:07:35.13 and a plant-based diet and they bring it down themselves, 00:07:35.16\00:07:38.14 so they don't need a blood pressure pill 00:07:38.17\00:07:40.63 And that's being natural because we've discovered that 00:07:40.66\00:07:43.79 natural is God's way and exercise and diet 00:07:43.82\00:07:46.58 certainly was something that He created for us 00:07:46.61\00:07:48.76 right there in Eden. Exactly! 00:07:48.79\00:07:50.49 So if you could understand the reason why... 00:07:50.52\00:07:54.15 Now a lot of people want natural remedies, 00:07:54.18\00:07:56.16 they don't want to do the work. 00:07:56.19\00:07:57.50 You know, they just want to a natural pill. 00:07:57.53\00:08:00.48 And I tell them, there's really no difference between 00:08:00.51\00:08:03.12 that and the pill I give you. 00:08:03.15\00:08:04.81 You know, let's get at the cause. 00:08:04.84\00:08:06.51 Now some people, have sleep apnea... 00:08:06.54\00:08:08.57 They get the mask, their blood pressure comes down; 00:08:08.60\00:08:10.45 a thyroid problem that's treated, 00:08:10.48\00:08:12.31 come off the medication, 00:08:12.34\00:08:13.53 but what I see nowadays is most people really 00:08:13.56\00:08:16.02 don't really know what their true blood pressure is 00:08:16.05\00:08:18.81 because they're always in a state of STRESS! 00:08:18.84\00:08:21.12 Emotional stress - they come to the doctor, they're stressed, 00:08:21.15\00:08:23.77 their blood pressure is always going to be high... 00:08:23.80\00:08:25.37 And the doctor's tendency is to give a person the medicine... 00:08:25.40\00:08:27.95 And they don't really know what it really is 00:08:27.98\00:08:29.99 when a person is nice and relaxed... 00:08:30.02\00:08:31.51 Things like music, relaxing, worship; 00:08:31.54\00:08:35.72 all those things have also been shown 00:08:35.75\00:08:38.31 to lower the blood pressure 00:08:38.34\00:08:39.75 because there is chemistry behind that. 00:08:39.78\00:08:41.23 Sometimes I have to drive in to Washington, D.C. 00:08:41.26\00:08:43.85 for my work from where I live, 00:08:43.88\00:08:45.39 and the closer I get to the city, 00:08:45.42\00:08:47.10 I start changing the radio channel to a classical station. 00:08:47.13\00:08:52.17 It just makes a big difference when I'm driving into the city 00:08:52.20\00:08:54.54 with all the noise and commotion going around the traffic, 00:08:54.57\00:08:57.68 and I turn on that beautiful music - the classical music. 00:08:57.71\00:09:01.46 I could actually feel my blood pressure going down. 00:09:01.49\00:09:04.99 Right, you can and when your body is under stress, 00:09:05.02\00:09:07.56 the blood pressure goes up, 00:09:07.59\00:09:08.89 so when it's under chronic stress, 00:09:08.92\00:09:10.52 the blood pressure also goes up. 00:09:10.55\00:09:12.16 So the treatment for that is not necessarily a pill 00:09:12.19\00:09:15.76 because one pill might lower it some, 00:09:15.79\00:09:18.28 but then you're under stress - A Beethoven pill! 00:09:18.31\00:09:20.40 Right, you're under more stress, 00:09:20.43\00:09:21.86 so you take another pill and you take another 00:09:21.89\00:09:23.94 stress and you're on another pill, 00:09:23.97\00:09:25.22 so the real solution of your blood pressure problem 00:09:25.25\00:09:27.18 might be to find a different route 00:09:27.21\00:09:29.14 or to listen to nicer music 00:09:29.17\00:09:30.69 or DON'T GO into Washington, D.C. 00:09:30.72\00:09:32.47 Some people might be healthier living AWAY from stress. 00:09:32.50\00:09:36.40 Amen! Think about that... 00:09:36.43\00:09:37.58 You might be healthier avoiding your stress 00:09:37.61\00:09:39.67 no matter what that is. 00:09:39.70\00:09:41.20 You might be able to avoid it. 00:09:41.23\00:09:42.28 It might be a chemical stress. 00:09:42.31\00:09:43.58 It might be a physical stress. 00:09:43.61\00:09:45.09 It might be emotional stress. 00:09:45.12\00:09:46.23 Because you might not be able to handle the stress... 00:09:46.26\00:09:47.93 That's the thing - some people just have a hard time 00:09:47.96\00:09:50.42 handling certain things that happen in life, 00:09:50.45\00:09:53.21 and the answer may be GET AWAY FROM THAT, 00:09:53.24\00:09:56.42 and that may mean a change of job... 00:09:56.45\00:10:01.21 We have to decide what is important. 00:10:01.24\00:10:03.28 What is the most important thing?
