00:01 The following program presents
00:02 principles designed to promote good health 00:04 and is not intended to take 00:05 the place of personalized professional care. 00:07 The opinions and ideas expressed are those of the speaker. 00:11 Viewers are encouraged to draw their own conclusions 00:13 about the information presented. 00:16 You've got heart disease. 00:18 You're doctors suggest surgery and drugs. 00:21 He should know what's best for you, right. 00:24 Stay tuned. 00:27 I'm Dr. James Marcum. 00:29 Are you interested in discovering the reason, why? 00:32 You want solutions to your healthcare problems? 00:35 Are you tired of taking medications? 00:38 Well you're about to be given the Ultimate Prescription. 00:44 There is a certain feeling that comes over a person 00:47 when he or she is told that their heart is in trouble. 00:51 That feeling is fear. 00:52 After all you only have one heart. 00:55 This is not a good time to try something new or is it. 01:00 Heart disease is progressive 01:02 and while there comes a time to act quickly 01:04 using the best that modern medicine has to offer 01:07 that time, may not be now. 01:09 Dr. Marcum, you're a cardiologist. 01:12 This is your area of expertise, help us out here. 01:15 When do we go modern and when do we go natural? 01:18 Well that's a great question, Charles. 01:20 And today as we talk about 01:22 you know artery disease, heart disease. 01:25 I want to introduce once again this word endothelial disease 01:28 or the lining of the blood vessels. 01:31 Remember, as your blood leaves the heart 01:34 there is two vessels-- 01:36 there are just two vessels that feed 01:37 the front part of the heart with nourishment with oxygen. 01:39 Oh, we've a model right here. Yeah. 01:41 Can this model will help us. All right. 01:43 Right when we lead the heart oxygen-rich blood-- 01:46 these arteries right here that feed the heart. 01:48 They are called the coronary arteries. Okay. 01:50 And they feed the heart right 01:52 as soon as it leads going out this big vessel called aorta. 01:55 Now Charles, this is a heart you would not one have. 01:58 This is a hardened heart. How hardened it is. 02:00 Heart of wood. Heart of stone. Heart of wood. 02:03 So you don't want to have this heart. 02:04 But a patient made this for me. 02:06 But the arteries come out here 02:07 and they feed the heart. 02:08 But remember the same vessels go throughout the body. Yes. 02:12 So the same disease that fills-- 02:14 that causes heart disease 02:16 or coronary artery disease or atherosclerosis. 02:19 It affects--the blood it goes to your brain 02:21 so people might not think right 02:23 leading to strokes and vascular disease. 02:25 It's one of the causes to dementia. 02:27 That damage could happen in the big vessel 02:29 called the aorta and it can cause aneurysm. 02:32 In the vessels of the legs 02:33 causing the legs not to get enough blood. 02:36 We call that a peripheral vascular disease. 02:38 And the symptom of that might be pain when you walk. 02:40 The arteries that go to your kidneys 02:42 the arteries that go to your gut, 02:44 the artery that goes to your reproductive organs. 02:46 So this is a systemic disease it goes everywhere. 02:50 So when do I recommend going to a doctor for this? 02:53 Well, one is, if you're having a symptom, 02:56 if you're having a symptom. 02:57 That's a great place to go to a doctor. 03:00 So let's say you're walking at the hill 03:02 and you might have chest pain that goes away when you rest. 03:04 That might be a sign that you're hearts not getting 03:06 enough blood or oxygen and that could be a symptom. 03:10 Let's say you're having mental problems 03:11 or part of your body is getting enough blood. 03:13 That might be a sign of blockage 03:14 in one of the vessels up in the brain. Yeah. 03:17 Let's say you have pain in the leg when you walk. 03:19 That could be a blockage in one of the arteries. 03:21 Let's say you're kidney function get's worse 03:23 or your blood pressure is out of whack. 03:25 That could be sign of a blockage 03:26 in the arteries to your kidneys. 03:28 So this can happen throughout the body. 03:30 So first of all, the time to go is if you're having symptoms 03:33 because we have got some great things 03:35 to help modern medicine. 03:36 We can bring more blood flow to the heart. 03:38 We can put stents in a bypass. We can put stents in the neck. 03:42 We can do a lot of things to help the blood improve 03:44 but at the same time that doesn't get 03:46 at the cause of the disease. 03:47 Now the symptoms you're talking about 03:48 are these symptoms that occur over a longtime, 03:52 not just one or two right away? 03:55 That's a good point. 03:56 By the time a person has symptom 03:59 they have pretty advanced disease. I see. 04:02 So you don't want to necessarily wait 04:04 till you have a symptom to see a doctor. 04:05 You might want to see a doctor 04:07 or physician or someone to help you to prevent this. 04:10 Or if you have it in early in stages 04:12 to help it not progressed to have big stages. 04:15 So when you're starting having symptoms go to see someone. 04:17 Right for sure. Yeah. 04:18 But some people even want to go see 04:20 someone to help them even ahead of time. Yes. 04:22 And you know to help them not have this disease 04:24 and people that are at the greatest risk 04:26 are people that have family histories 04:28 that might have a genetic predisposition, 04:30 might have other concomitant diseases 04:32 like diabetes, high blood pressure, 04:35 high cholesterol, smoke cigarettes. 04:38 Those are conditions that soon or later 04:41 could develop higher risk 04:42 of the developing the symptoms throughout the body. 04:44 So those people might want to get help early 04:46 to prevent having symptoms. 04:48 So I have some people that come to me 04:50 and they say listen I don't have a problem now 04:52 but I don't want to have a problem down the road. 04:55 Are there any things that I can do with my lifestyle 04:58 or with medicines or with my diet 05:01 to help me prevent getting this disease down the road? 05:04 And the word natural always comes up. Yeah. 05:07 Many people want to do it the natural way. 05:10 And today I want people to think about 05:12 the natural way is God's way. 05:16 And a lot of people think, 05:17 oh, if it's not a medicine it's natural. 05:19 If it doesn't come from a medical doctor it's natural. 05:22 And you know there's many different types of doctors 05:24 to go see nowadays. Yes. 05:25 You know you've got doctors of naturopathic medicine. 05:28 You've got chiropractors, you got nutritionist. 05:31 You got all sorts of different doctors. 05:33 And any one that helps heal somebody 05:36 I consider a healer. 05:38 Medical doctors are good at 05:40 giving medicines and treating symptoms. 05:43 Naturopathic doctors are good 05:44 working at natural things and looking at, 05:46 you know, different diets and foods and lifestyle things. 05:49 But I want people to think about 05:51 as when they think they were natural 05:52 in treatment for the heart God's way of treating the heart. 05:56 And God's way might include medical doctors. 05:59 God's way might into these other types of things 06:01 and when we sort of think about it 06:03 that way its holistic approach. 06:05 But I don't want people to think of naturals 06:07 just in herb or just this 06:10 its God's way of treating that's the natural way. 06:12 How we would design to be 06:14 that's the way to treat the heart. 06:16 And God has allowed technology 06:18 and there is a place for that. 06:19 If you're having a heart attack 06:20 that's a place for modern medicine. 06:22 If you, you know, if you have a super high blood pressure 06:25 and you can't get it down naturally 06:26 that's another place for medicine. 06:28 So it does have a place to use these things. 06:30 Pacemakers to defibrillators all that has a place 06:33 but I want everyone to know that often most of the time 06:36 it doesn't get at the cause. 06:38 Now, I had a gentlemen not too long ago Charles, 06:40 that came to me 06:42 and he had done everything right. 06:43 He is 55 years old. 06:45 He exercised everyday, he ate a really good diet, 06:48 no risk factors of diabetes hypertension, 06:51 and he was a little bit discouraged 06:52 because he had vascular disease that presented as a symptom. 06:56 And you know he says, man, I have done everything right. 06:59 You know, what's, what's wrong. 07:00 And I said, well, how old was your dad when he had it? 07:04 He said, well, my dad 42 and this gentleman is 57. 07:07 So he had another 15 years without the disease. 07:11 Some stress on our system 07:14 is passed down from our genetics. 07:16 And there is some diseases no matter 07:18 what we do some people just have bad genes. Yeah. 07:20 And that's one thing that people need to realize. 07:23 You know, the way things are. 07:24 That's a stress that's been passed down. 07:26 It's a result of sin I think. Yeah. 07:28 So this gentleman had some things done 07:30 because he had a symptom. 07:31 And I said well, you know, 07:32 you had a symptom you do have genetic disease. 07:35 What are something's we can do 07:36 to actually help your genetics 07:38 from being turned on? Yeah. 07:39 And there is this fascinating field now called epigenetics 07:42 that we're just learning about. 07:44 Certain genes can be turned on 07:46 by certain things we do. 07:48 We know certain foods can turn on genes, 07:50 we know certain carcinogens can turn on genes, 07:52 like cigarette smoking and toxins in environment. 07:56 But we're now also learning 07:57 the chemistry of the brain can turn on genes. 08:00 The stress chemistry of the brain can 08:02 up regulate or down regulate genes. 08:05 Nutrition, this is much more complicated 08:07 than anyone ever thought that what turns on genes. 08:10 So if we feel stress in our mind if we're worried, 08:15 if we're apprehensive, if we are angry, 08:17 if we feel guilt all of these things are switches 08:22 that can turn on the genes 08:23 that cause the problems. Yes. Yes. 08:24 Because remember, everything that happens in our body 08:28 is a result of some type of chemical reaction. Right. 08:32 Okay, and our body these feedback systems. 08:35 You know, like if you're worried about something 08:36 you're worried for a reason 08:37 there's real chemistry behind that worry. 08:40 And that chemistry of course, affects other things. 08:43 You know, if I go like that and scare you. 08:45 Guess what, there is chemistry behind that reaction. 08:49 Lot's of chemistry. 08:50 You jumped, you got scared, 08:51 you're fear center of the brain got turned on 08:53 your medulla you made lot of adrenaline. 08:56 And that adrenaline say, hey I'm backing off. 08:58 And I feel great. 08:59 Yeah, yeah and the adrenaline back off. 09:01 Your heart starts speeding up a little bit. 09:03 But can you imagine if that goes on 09:05 day and day out, year and year out. 09:07 You can't sleep at night, you can't rest at night, 09:10 you can't heal at night. 09:11 You might do things to help cope with that. 09:14 It's a cascaded events. 09:16 So natural ways to treat the heart 09:19 is more than just medicines. 09:21 It's more than modern medicine. 09:22 Its more than just food, the food is important. 09:25 It's also includes the exercise, the way we think, 09:28 basically the way we lived. 09:30 Our entire lifestyle is what affects 09:32 not only vascular disease but your entire health. 09:34 Because everything we do affects our genes, 09:37 its epigenetics can turn on these things. 09:39 Like my patient that had disease 17 years later 09:43 something eventually turned on those genes. Yeah. 09:45 Now when talking to him 09:46 he lived a very, very stressful life. 09:49 He lived under constant stress. 09:50 And remember the way we're originally designed, 09:53 we weren't designed to have lots of stress. Yes. 09:56 We were never designed with the internet 09:58 or these heavy workloads. 09:59 We were designed to rest, we were designed to be happy, 10:02 we were designed to play with the animals 10:04 and have all these good times 10:06 and somehow we shifted from that. 10:08 We were designed to worship a God that loved us. 10:11 And were designed to worship, 10:13 you know, I was, you know, listening 10:15 on the radio the other day. 10:16 I was turning the shows 10:17 and there is more shows about sports 10:19 than there were about spiritual things. Yes. 10:21 You know, it's crazy. 10:23 You know, there's more drug stores 10:24 than there are churches. 10:26 Our country and the world 10:28 is moving in the wrong direction. 10:30 We're deemphasizing God 10:32 and His plan the natural plan 10:35 and emphasizing the technology plan. 10:38 Now there is place for technology 10:40 but on my television set 10:42 I see more ads for drugs and procedures 10:45 than I do for anything else. 10:48 Even in health shows, I look out there and see 10:50 some of the other people that do what I do on television 10:53 and they're talking about more of the technology 10:56 and more of the gimmicks and gadgets 10:58 than they are on how we were designed with God's plan. 11:01 The natural way to deal with heart disease. 11:03 So I want to our listeners to think 11:05 when you say the natural way is God's way. God's way. 11:08 How would go if he was treating you, 11:10 how would he start in the treatment plan for you. 11:13 Not how a medical doctor would 11:15 but how would doctor 11:16 the ultimate physician start with you. 11:18 Where would he start? Would you start with a stent? 11:21 Well, he probably if you have an acute symptom 11:23 but more than that he'll say. 11:24 Well, listen, Charles, 11:25 what cause the problem in the first place. 11:27 Let's get back to the way I made you. 11:30 Come on to me and I will give you rest. 11:32 That's the fist thing that pop into my mind here 11:34 when you were just talking about that. 11:36 God's first thing He wants to do is say slowdown, 11:39 wait a minute and it's not that important. 11:41 Just take it easy I'm with you here. 11:44 You know when you scared me there and you really scared me. 11:47 I must say you really scared me. 11:48 I may be jumped. 11:50 I sort of took inventory 11:51 of what was happening in my body for the first, 11:54 you know, 60 seconds after that. 11:57 Heart rate goes up, you know, I felt warmer, 12:00 I knew that my blood pressure had gone up as well 12:02 because its-- heart was pumping faster. Yeah. 12:05 Now if I had come to a doctor 12:07 under those circumstances and say, 12:09 doctor I have high blood pressure. 12:11 My heart is going too fast, I can't really think clearly 12:16 because I'm so excited and everything. 12:18 And the doctor would have given me 12:19 all these lowering blood pressure medicines 12:22 and all of the stat and this is for my cholesterol and all that. 12:24 Now they started working on those problems. 12:26 The problem was that this man scared me. 12:29 That was the problem 12:30 and all of those medicines would only cause side effects 12:33 and not get to the problem at all. 12:34 So that was a fantastic illustration. 12:37 You need to find out what is scaring you. 12:39 What is bothering you in your life 12:41 that is causing all these symptoms? 12:43 If you can find that out 12:44 and you can mitigate those things 12:46 it's very possible that you can slowdown 12:48 and possibly get rid of the problem with your heart. 12:50 Am I on the right track? You're on the right track. 12:52 All right. 12:53 We'll take a short break and when we come back 12:54 we've questions that have been sent 12:56 into heartwiseministries.org for this program. 12:59 Questions we'll answer right here. 13:01 So everybody stay right where you are 13:03 we'll be right back. |
