00:01 Welcome back to the program. I'm Charles Mills.
00:02 We're here with Dr. James Marcum. 00:04 We're talking about diabetes today 00:05 and from the first half of this program that is something 00:08 that I don't want to have anywhere near me 00:11 and I'm sure that you would agree 00:12 that's something you'd like to have out of your life. 00:14 But just in case, you are suffering from this disease, 00:18 we have some good news for you if it's type 2. 00:20 We have some really good news 00:21 and we'll be talking about that more on our next program. 00:23 But right now, Dr. Marcum, let's talk about the questions 00:26 that have been sent in to us at heartwiseministries.org-- 00:29 Now if you want to do the questions, 00:30 you know, we've been talking about these serious medical-- 00:33 Oh, it's awful-- Problems that kill people-- 00:34 It's awful. You know, I almost feel 00:35 like we should have a humor, humor break. 00:38 Let's do that please. I'm feeling depressed. 00:39 You know, I don't know 00:41 if you know any jokes or not, 00:42 but you know-- Any diabetes jokes? 00:44 You know, I don't know if you know any of those, 00:45 but did you know that when you smile and laugh 00:48 and make someone else happy, 00:49 did you know what you can do with their blood sugar? 00:51 You can actually bring their blood sugar down. 00:53 So if I tickle you and you start giggling, 00:56 you make endorphins, lesser the stress chemicals 00:58 including one called cortisol, 00:59 so you can at least bring down 01:01 your blood sugar a little bit so-- 01:02 What a fun medication that would be. 01:04 So maybe we should just give everyone-- 01:05 Tickle. A little bit laughing, 01:07 'cause remember we were designed to be happy and laughing. Yeah. 01:09 I know we talk about all these health topics all the time 01:12 and you know it can get discouraging. Yes. 01:14 You know, and I don't want to discourage people. 01:16 I want to make them happy and laugh 01:18 you know, you know, I would love to-- 01:19 I would much rather sometimes be a comedian 01:21 than be a bearer of bad news. 01:23 So we want to be the bearer of good news--Good news, yes. 01:25 And, you know, even though we talk about in the series 01:28 all these diseases that kill people, 01:30 we also have some great news. Oh, that's so good-- 01:32 It's not gonna always be like this. 01:34 We're gonna have some good times 01:35 and some happy times and some laughter. 01:37 But when you look at the trends of diabetes, 01:39 I'm looking at some of the statistics now. 01:41 Diabetes is now 300 times more than 01:43 it was just 10 years ago. 01:46 That's a lot of people. That's a lot of people-- 01:48 That's nothing to laugh at. 01:50 And you know 80% of people with diabetics 01:52 that are type 2 die from heart attacks. 01:54 That's not good news. 01:55 But I also got some good news 01:57 is that we can have information to reverse this. 01:59 We can also plug in you to an Ultimate Prescription, 02:02 that's gonna bring you a lot of joy in your life. 02:04 And we want people to not feel 02:05 so burdened by all this 'cause I've a lot of feeling 02:07 that they think about their health, 02:09 Charles, and they feel, "Oh, I'm so burdened. 02:11 I can't live." You know? 02:12 Well, we want to empower you, 02:14 to make you happy, to give you joy in your life 02:16 'cause that's a great treatment to be happy 02:18 and not to be fearful about all the things, 02:20 but to be proactive, the things you can do, 02:22 you could be happy about these things. 02:23 Like Dr. Hans Diehl-- over the CHIP program says, 02:27 "Life by the right choice is not by chance, 02:29 that we make decisions in our everyday life 02:32 on an everyday basis that really have profound effects 02:36 on how we feel and-- and how we function." 02:39 It's pretty amazing. Yeah, we want people 02:41 to be positive, to be happy, 02:43 and even if you are a type 2 diabetic, 02:45 you know, take the bull by the horn, you know. 02:47 You know, get these-- do these things 02:49 and don't be burdened by it so it just drags you down. 02:52 Look at the positive, not the negative. 02:53 That's a great prescription. Let's go to some questions. 02:55 All right, here's questions from heartwiseministries.org. 02:58 "I hear that diabetes is on the rise. 03:01 Is this true or just media hype? 03:03 Are the people who are making diabetes medicines 03:05 trying to convince us that, 'Boy, we need this'?" 03:07 Well, that's a great question 'cause right here 03:09 we have a blood sugar check, that people can check 03:12 if they're on diabetes medicines. 03:14 It's very important that if you're on 03:15 diabetic medicines that you have a check, 03:17 as you don't want your blood sugar to go too low. 03:19 So these people don't really want you to-- 03:21 well, I'm not gonna say that but-- 03:22 No, no, we're not gonna tell which brand is, 03:24 yeah, but there's people making money of these 03:25 especially when it goes up every year. Yes. 03:27 This is a device called a glucometer 03:30 that measures your blood sugar. 03:32 I want to put these people out of business. 03:34 Well, you well-- Let's do that, let's do that. 03:36 We might be able to. Yes. 03:37 But if you think about these numbers, 03:39 there's a lot of money to be made by investing in diabetes, 03:43 either the companies or the medications 03:45 or the end results of disease. 03:47 And that makes me mad because they are depending-- 03:50 and it's not good for my health is it? No. 03:52 'Cause they're depending on us to not make the right choices. 03:55 They're depending on us to just keep on going the way 03:57 we've been going so they can make a lot of money off of us. 03:59 Well, that's--and that's exactly what happened. 04:01 It's estimated that in the States, 04:03 $1 in $5 is spent on healthcare. Yeah. 04:06 Now other countries aren't quite to that number yet, 04:09 but as we see these diseases that kill people rise 04:12 and we just treat the symptoms and don't get at the cause, 04:16 we're gonna continue to have one more problem. 04:17 So this is not media hype. 04:19 Diabetes is a problem and the real solution 04:22 is not necessarily to treat you with a lot of end organ things. 04:26 The treatment's not an amputation. Yeah. 04:28 It's not to help do laser surgery on your eyes, 04:30 to start dialysis, to do bypass on diabetic vessels, 04:35 the neuropathy to take another pill to help the neuropathy, 04:38 you know, to wear special shoes 04:40 which diabetics frequently have to do, 04:43 to take medicines to help with impotence. 04:46 You know, that's not really the solution 04:47 when the body starts having these problems, 04:49 but the real solution is to get at the cause of the problem, 04:52 what's this long-term exposure that goes against the way 04:55 I was designed, let's get at that through 04:57 the power of this Ultimate Prescription 04:59 and make some real changes. 05:01 These are the answers to the, you know, 05:03 no one's really asked me, you know, 05:05 I haven't got a call from the President 05:06 or anyone and you know-- 05:08 what's the guy that's in charge of all the health in America 05:11 called, something general, right? 05:13 Surgeon general. Surgeon general. 05:15 Surgeon general. Surgeon general, okay. 05:16 You know, I can't wait to get a call from him saying, 05:17 "Listen, you know, 05:19 do you have any solutions to the healthcare dilemma?" 05:21 And I say, "Well, I'm glad you asked. 05:23 I have an Ultimate Prescription 05:24 that you can announce to the country." That's right. 05:26 "You know, we see a lot of medical shows on 05:28 and so about, you know, all these other medical shows 05:31 that are talking about the devices 05:33 and we see a lot of people talking 05:34 about supplements and exercises, 05:36 but we see these numbers rise every year, 05:38 so I don't think it's working. 05:40 You know, but I have some solutions. 05:41 You want to hear about this 05:43 Ultimate Prescription that I have. 05:44 I've been talking about it 05:46 on Three Angel Broadcasting Network. 05:47 I've written a book about it. 05:48 We're getting this out to the entire world 05:50 a new way to think about health and healing. 05:53 A way that looks at all these, doesn't dis anybody, 05:56 but it plugs into the ultimate physician that can heal us. 06:00 Don't you want to save millions and billions of dollars 06:02 in your healthcare plan, cut back insurance costs, 06:05 make everyone happy? Don't you want this? 06:07 Isn't this a plan we want for our lives in our world? 06:10 You know, you want to hear about it?" 06:12 So I'm hoping he's watching today 06:14 or he reads the book and he can get back and say, 06:16 "Yes, we want to hear about this." 06:18 And we're just messengers, Charles. 06:20 So we want to get this message to everyone 06:22 'cause this message has been around a long, long time. 06:26 The medical text book, the Bible, 06:28 which I use as my medical text has been-- 06:30 Amen. A long, a long time. 06:32 This one is in the Proverbs, 06:33 "A merry heart does good like medicine." 06:35 You know how to change someone's mind? 06:37 How to have a perfect life? 06:39 This is where I want to go to get my prescriptions. 06:42 I want to start here with the answers 06:44 and I want him to lead me to modern medicine when needed. 06:47 So I'm hoping someone listens 06:48 and we have the answer to the healthcare dilemma 06:50 right here on this program, Charles. 06:52 We're at cutting edge. Yeah, you know-- 06:54 More people should be talking about this. 06:55 I was talking with Brian Wendel. 06:57 He is the producer of "Forks Over Knives"--Yeah. 06:58 It was that movie that came out. Excellent, excellent. 07:00 They took this to Washington DC 07:02 and they showed it on Capital Hill 07:04 and a bunch of the aids came in 07:06 and people were blown away with this movie. 07:10 I want to recommend that you get a copy of this--Yeah. 07:12 And check it out, because that message, 07:15 the spiritual part isn't there 07:17 but the physical part, the diet part, 07:19 the exercise part, all the other parts 07:21 that Dr. Marcum talks about on this program 07:23 are right there in the movie "Forks Over Knives." 07:25 Check it out, play it for your church. 07:26 I recommend that you do it. 07:28 But what a great way to reach the world. Absolutely. 07:29 What a great way into-- let me understand, 07:31 there is a God that has the plan 07:33 that works for us can get us healthy again. 07:34 You mean, we need to have a health message 07:37 as our evangelistic message in our church? 07:39 Well, in every-- What a concept. 07:41 Yeah, in every church just think about it, Charles. 07:43 You know, when Christ came, 07:45 you know, he knew he was having a sick and dying world, 07:47 then they didn't have the problems 07:49 that we have and throughout the world 07:50 there's different types of problems. 07:51 You know, we talked a little bit 07:53 about some of the ones in North America, 07:54 but we also have in countries, we have bad infections. 07:57 We have parricides. We have problems with water. 07:59 We have other medical issues. 08:01 And yet, here we have some solutions to all these problems 08:05 and once people come and if there is a heal, 08:08 the next step is introducing to a relationship with the person, 08:11 the great physician that come up with this 08:12 and let the Holy Spirit take charge of our life. 08:15 This was the sort of prescription 08:16 that was given to us way back in the New Testament. 08:19 We need to get back to that and as the world sees this 08:21 and starts getting healthier, 08:22 they're gonna feel the power of the Holy Spirit. 08:24 They're gonna tell their friend 08:25 "Listen, I know this great physician 08:27 that wants to heal me, make everything better. 08:29 And He's gonna come again and He's gonna take care of us, 08:31 and He's gonna take away all these problems we have. 08:33 Don't you want to know I'm here? 08:35 Here, it says here if you believe in Him, 08:37 you can have everlasting life. 08:39 And here's how you do it. It's not hard. 08:41 You just, you know, pray and we can develop this. 08:43 This is a great way to reach people with the gospel. 08:47 I like that. I got all excited. I'm sorry. 08:49 I love it--I love it. We were gonna answer a question. 08:50 When you get on the soapboxes, I just love that. 08:51 I know I got excited about this. 08:53 I'm reminded of Christ, when He would go into a village, 08:54 what did He do? Did he hold an evangelistic meeting? 08:56 No, He healed people. Right. 08:58 He spent His time healing people. 09:01 We're told that when he would leave the village, 09:02 there would not be one sick person there. 09:04 Wouldn't that be a nice way of a preaching God, 09:08 bringing the message of the soon 09:11 coming Savior to a village or to a town, 09:13 is to come in there and just make sure 09:15 that you give the information so that when you leave, 09:17 there would not be any sick people there. 09:18 Wouldn't that be wonderful? 09:20 Yeah, and that's, you know, you know, 09:21 that's what we're trying to do with this program 09:23 is bring people knowledge that can help heal them 09:25 through the power of the ultimate physician. 09:26 All right, very good. Let's go to a question here. 09:27 I'm excited, I'm excited about this. Okay. 09:29 You were getting me depressed, but now I'm really excited. 09:30 Go ahead, go ahead. I wish I knew a joke. 09:32 All right. "How do I know if I have diabetes?" 09:36 And this person says, "I'm a little overweight." 09:38 Yeah, that's a great question. 09:40 'Cause if you have diabetes, you want to, 09:42 you know, get treatment right away. 09:43 And we're gonna talk a lot about-- 09:45 next program about the different types of treatment 09:48 both modern medicine treatment and lifestyle change treatment, 09:52 but you know basically by getting 09:54 your blood sugar checked. 09:55 And I want to go over those numbers again. 09:57 If your blood sugar is greater than 125 twice in North America 10:02 or in other countries 6 millimoles, 10:04 you have diabetes. 10:05 And the doctor would know what those numbers mean-- 10:07 Yes, if you have one high number, you have diabetes. 10:09 We talked about the hemoglobin A1c. 10:10 If it's greater than 7.5, you have diabetes. 10:13 So if you have diabetes, 10:15 then hopefully your awareness will go up a lot 10:18 and you'll start making the treatment changes 10:20 that need to be to get diabetes back into attack. 10:23 And we're gonna talk those about in the next program, 10:25 so I want everyone to stay with us 10:26 'cause we're gonna talk about the different treatments, 10:28 the pros and cons of both modern medicine and, 10:31 you know, the pros of lifestyle medicine. 10:33 And this next question concerns me 10:35 just a little bit, Dr. Marcum. 10:36 This person says, "What happens 10:37 if diabetes goes untreated?" 10:39 My doctor says I may have-- actually it says 10:42 "I have diabetes, but I have done nothing about it." 10:46 Are we playing with a rattlesnake here? 10:48 Yes, you are. If diabetes goes untreated-- 10:51 you know, we talked about glucose metabolism. 10:53 Yeah. The glucose can't get into the cell, okay. 10:57 We have too much fat around. 10:59 We make a lot of extra insulin, 11:02 extra insulin's floating around the body 11:04 damaging the endothelium. 11:06 If this happens untreated, 11:08 you might be one of those persons that become blind. 11:10 You might be one that's on dialysis. 11:12 You might lose a foot 11:14 from a chronic infection from a neuropathy. 11:17 You might have heart disease sooner than you should 11:20 and develop a heart attack and die from that. 11:22 You might have a lot of complications 11:24 and other problems if it's untreated. 11:26 Now the treatment that is what's 11:29 gonna be very interesting. 11:30 Modern medicine says, let's treat with medicines first. 11:33 I'm gonna say in the next program 11:35 that may be we should look at some other things 11:37 to change our chemistry other than that. 11:39 All right, very good. 11:41 So if you leave your doctor's office 11:43 and the doctor has said, "You have type 2 diabetes," 11:47 you need to know where to find the answers 11:48 because this disease is reversible and it is curable. 11:52 And we'll learn more about that on our next program, 11:54 but stay tuned. When we come back, 11:55 let's talk to the master physician. 11:57 Stay tuned. 12:01 Diabetes is definitely on the rise. 12:05 I see patients every day with damages from diabetes 12:08 whether it be the eyes or the kidneys 12:10 or the heart or even in older people losing their legs. 12:14 This is a terrible disease to have. 12:17 And if you have diabetics, 12:18 I want you to start thinking about, 12:20 you know, ways to reverse it. 12:21 We're gonna talk in our next program about the ways, 12:23 if you have type 2 diabetes, 12:25 that you can possibly be cured of this disease. 12:28 That's sort of exciting. 12:30 And I know these subjects are very serious 12:31 but one of the things I want to say 12:33 is we have an ultimate physician 12:35 that brings us great joy and love in our life. 12:37 And though someone out there 12:39 might be having a serious medical problem, 12:41 let just bow our heads in prayer 12:42 and ask the ultimate physician 12:44 to schedule their appointment with us. 12:45 What do you say? Let's bow our heads. 12:48 Dear, Heavenly Father, 12:49 we recognize you as the ultimate physician, 12:51 the ultimate source of healing in our lives 12:53 and we want to invite each one of the listeners 12:56 and viewers out there to come to you 12:58 and make an appointment to be with you in your office. 13:01 To get the prescriptions and the healing 13:03 that only you can give, Father. 13:04 We want to pray for this 13:06 and help someone to come to your altar today, 13:08 Father, and we just thank you for giving us such love 13:11 and hope in our lives is our prayer, amen. 13:15 There is hope. There's always hope. 13:17 There's always a place for healing. 13:20 Some people out there I get letters at our website 13:23 and I realize that they're not feeling well. 13:26 The world is bombarded with sickness and illness. 13:29 But there is hope and that hope 13:30 is in that relationship with the ultimate physician. 13:33 I want you to really stay with us 13:34 'cause next time we're gonna talk about the ways 13:37 that we can reverse type 2 diabetics 13:40 and hopefully curing you. 13:41 So you don't have to take a lot of medications. 13:44 Stay with us and join us next week 13:45 and thanks for joining us on the "Ultimate Prescription." |
