00:01 Welcome back to Ultimate Prescription.
00:02 I'm Charles Mills.
00:03 We are here with Dr. James Marcum
00:04 and Dr. Marcum we are always searching for truth.
00:07 Yes we are. In this world.
00:08 We are always looking for where we can go
00:10 to find what we need to use in our lives
00:14 to bring about the healing we want so much.
00:16 Any suggestions there?
00:17 Yeah and some of these thought we've been presenting
00:19 are little bit you know, quote out of the box you know.
00:22 Hear this everyday and how fear and selfishness damages
00:25 our chemistry and how love improved our chemistry.
00:29 But I want to invite our viewers
00:31 if they want to ask a question go to our website
00:34 that's heartwiseministries.org.
00:37 You'll also find many other things on that website
00:40 including my new book which is called the Ultimate Prescription
00:43 that's released by Tyndale.
00:44 We are hoping to make that an evangelistic book
00:47 that others can understand health in a different manner
00:50 and also bring them into a love relationship with their Savior
00:53 and let the Savior write truth in their lives
00:56 and improve their chemistry,
00:57 so each one of you out there can be a healer
00:59 and change someone else's chemistry when you share
01:02 some of these truths with them, so it's very exciting
01:05 so, we have some questions that have come into our site.
01:07 Yes, heartwiseministries.org we have some questions
01:11 have come in and I invite you to submit your questions
01:13 if you like to that website, and we just may address
01:16 them here on the air on the program.
01:18 All right question number one for you Dr. Marcum.
01:20 This is John in Indiana and John asks?
01:23 I do not enjoy exercise.
01:26 Yeah, okay.
01:27 And work as an IT specialist my weight is--now IT specialist
01:31 I guess is sitting at computers a lot.
01:32 Information. Yeah. All right.
01:33 My weight is normal.
01:34 I argue with my doctor that exercise is not my thing.
01:39 How can I get started on a basic simple program?
01:42 What, what do you have for someone who exercise
01:44 as not his thing? Yeah.
01:46 John I hear that all the time.
01:49 I don't think anyone really likes
01:51 to exercise, some people do.
01:52 But if you think back
01:53 the way we were designed originally at, at creation.
01:56 We were designed to be up and moving around
01:59 all day long and rest at night.
02:01 So the first thing I want to tell you
02:02 that exercise is good for you.
02:04 It does a lot of chemistry in the body
02:07 It's worth about 10 or 15 medications,
02:09 makes you brain think good or makes you more efficient,
02:11 lowers the rate of diabetes even if you have normal weight
02:14 helps your blood pressure, helps prevent heart attacks,
02:17 helps prevent inflammation, helps prevent sleep apnea,
02:20 helps fight cancer, all most every condition exercises helps.
02:24 So exercise is--didn't a treatment
02:26 and I would like to write to write you a prescription
02:28 for exercise on the pad right now.
02:30 But lot of people know they should do it, but the how?
02:33 We always wonder how?
02:35 How do we make the changes?
02:36 Well, first is education and try not to make it too complex,
02:40 you know that you should you do it.
02:41 The first thing I would do is ask God
02:43 to help me to get into a simple exercise programme
02:45 for a month and you can do simple things
02:48 like I tell people well you know,
02:49 you can get up from your desk
02:50 and do this for a minute or two. Okay.
02:53 It doesn't have to be all at once,
02:55 it doesn't have to be in a fancy gym.
02:57 And what I try to tell people to do is change speeds
03:00 no matter what they're doing,
03:01 you know, because that's the way we were made.
03:02 We weren't made to work at the same speed all day long.
03:04 Right, right. We're made to do a little bit there,
03:06 may be little faster here change speeds
03:09 and what I do on a treadmill is I walk three miles an hour,
03:11 speed it up every five minutes It's that changing
03:14 that helps our cardiovascular system
03:16 and also changes our metabolism.
03:18 And some people think it's probably better
03:20 we call that interval training. Yes.
03:22 It's better to do short intervals
03:23 three or four times a day then all at once,
03:25 but for people who don't exercise
03:27 I would just get into a exercise program.
03:29 So John the first thing
03:30 I like you to do is dedicate this, this test to God
03:33 get that power in your body and get up three times a day
03:37 at your desk and do this for at least two or three minutes.
03:41 Do that for a week and then if you can get on a treadmill,
03:44 you can add that if you can park your car far away and walk
03:48 maybe you have stairs that you can take up
03:50 anything that has movement will help your cardiovascular system.
03:54 If you like to talk move around.
03:56 If you do watch television
03:58 during the commercial never sit down
04:00 you know, walk you know, if you gonna watch a sporting event
04:03 buy a treadmill and walk over the treadmill.
04:05 Try to incorporate movement into your day as much as you can.
04:09 Now we start doing movement, it will become a habit for you.
04:13 And you gonna have some good chemical results
04:15 the best one is probably this chemical called endorphin,
04:17 that's a feel good hormone.
04:19 When you start making more endorphins
04:21 after you exercise you gonna have that rush of feeling good,
04:24 and then you gonna know that God's
04:25 helping you wants to make you feel better
04:27 and then you're gonna be able to take the next step.
04:29 But you don't necessarily have to go to a gym and work out
04:31 even though some people can jump to that.
04:33 Some people can start and do it everyday.
04:35 But it really takes the power of God
04:36 to break these habits and doing something which you can stick
04:39 with till it becomes a habit.
04:40 So John that might be a place to start,
04:43 you know, and just move around.
04:44 If you're behind a television camera,
04:47 you know, may be you can move
04:48 your legs back and forth you know.
04:50 If you're, you know, there's lot of people
04:51 that can do things exercise all over.
04:53 If you're watching TV right now, well get up, get started,
04:57 you know, sit in front of the screen
04:59 and do some exercise here, jogging out get few things done
05:01 with once learn a little bit while you exercise.
05:03 Did you know that if you exercise and learn
05:06 the learning is more effective?
05:07 Why is that?
05:09 Well you have the oxygen going up there. Exactly.
05:10 So the brain works better so. Yeah.
05:13 When you exercise and learn you actually think better.
05:15 Some people also say that prayer is a good thing to exercise
05:19 when you're praying, whether it be walking out in nature
05:21 sometime they think that increases their abilities.
05:24 So John you can do this but it starts with the power of God
05:28 starting something simple sticking with it, and it helps
05:31 if you're accountable to somebody.
05:33 And it also helps if you enjoy it, that's kind of important.
05:36 You'll stick with things you enjoy, I like walking. Yeah.
05:38 Walking is my thing, my wife and just love to walk
05:40 and we walk every days several times a day.
05:43 And we enjoy it, so it is not something
05:45 that we have to go out and it is our thing.
05:48 Walking is our thing, so may be walking can be your thing
05:51 and that is a wonderful exercises movement
05:53 you get out in the fresh air and the sunshine
05:56 other laws of health we've talked about,
05:58 get out there and walk even in the winter time
05:59 we just put all of our ear muffs on and the gloves
06:02 when we go out in walking, very important.
06:04 But you got to like what you're doing and you got to do it.
06:05 All right here we go,
06:07 'cause you want to be well, right, yes, all right.
06:09 Question number two from heartwiseministries.org.
06:12 This is from Daniel in Arkansas and Daniel says my heart
06:17 skips a lot, like when it happens. Yeah.
06:20 Is this dangerous?
06:21 Well, Daniel that's probably one of the most common questions
06:24 I get in my office is people feel their heart skipping.
06:27 And again whenever a person has a symptom
06:30 whether it be chest pain, I can't breathe
06:32 when something doesn't feel right in your body
06:34 we call it a symptom that needs to evaluated.
06:37 And some people can--are smart enough
06:39 and their own bodies could tell what it means,
06:41 some people need the help of a professional.
06:43 So lot of people come to me and they say, listen my heart
06:45 skipping and the first thing
06:47 I ask them right away is how long does it last?
06:50 Does it last a long time?
06:51 Are you passing out? Okay.
06:54 Does it go with anything else?
06:56 You know like my heart starts skipping
06:57 when, when, when someone is hitting me.
06:59 Well then the solution
07:00 to that is they have not someone sitting.
07:02 When the heart skips it could be one of many different things.
07:05 It could be extra adrenaline
07:07 in your body which is caused by stress.
07:09 So I start looking for things that might cause stress in life,
07:12 are you, are you dehydrated?
07:14 Are you sleeping enough?
07:15 Are you having pain in your body?
07:17 Or have you drank too much caffeine.
07:20 Are you worried about things?
07:21 Is work not going well?
07:23 Those are all things that cause stress.
07:25 Do you perhaps have an abnormal heart rhythm in there?
07:28 That's you know that's triggered.
07:30 And in that case we evaluate that by a monitor
07:33 we look at a hole through monitor
07:34 we can actually see what that rhythm is. Right.
07:36 There are some abnormal rhythms that people get no matter,
07:39 no matter if they don't have any stress.
07:41 And those we can help with medicine,
07:43 we have a procedure called an ablation
07:45 where we can actually actually destroy
07:46 that rhythm and sometimes we can give medicines,
07:48 so that's a great place for modern medicine.
07:50 But most people I can find most people with palpitations,
07:55 we can usually make some lifestyle changes,
07:57 make their stress chemistry go down
07:59 and they are usually much better.
08:01 Ah, in this the cares of this world
08:03 can sometimes cause palpitation,
08:04 but I wanna let you know if you're passing out, okay.
08:08 That's dangerous, that's usually a sign
08:09 that this is very serious.
08:11 If it last for a long time,
08:13 you know, more than 5 or 10 minutes
08:14 that could be a more dangerous sign
08:16 that means there's not enough blood getting to your head.
08:19 Also certain medications that you might be on over
08:22 the counter medication, certain prescription mediicnes
08:24 can cause dangerous heart rhythm that makes it skip too.
08:27 So those are situations
08:28 where you definitely want a medical professional
08:30 to look at why, why your heart skips.
08:32 But everyone every now and then has a little skip,
08:35 you know, here or there.
08:36 I hate those when they have because, you know,
08:38 you figure this you have a heart. Yeah.
08:39 And the heart is keeping you alive and it just stopped.
08:42 Even if it's just one or two beats it just stopped
08:44 and that's kind of scary, because you just feel
08:47 that you know things aren't happening right in here.
08:49 Yeah, it's even more scarier if it doesn't restart.
08:52 That's true.
08:53 You know, or it doesn't quit doing that.
08:55 So the palpitations are very common
08:58 and you got to know know why you have the palpitations,
09:01 but the simple things that I would say
09:02 if your not drinking enough water, not getting rest do that.
09:05 Exercise actually helps palpitation due to stress.
09:08 So exercise might be another thing 'cause it makes endorphins
09:11 the opposite of the stress chemistry.
09:13 Taking deep breaths can sometimes help with that.
09:16 If a person has an abnormal heart rhythm Charles,
09:19 sometimes taking, rubbing the carotid arteries
09:22 can help break abnormal fast heart rhythm.
09:24 Sometimes straining down like they have to go to the bathroom
09:27 can break in an abnormal fast rhythm as well. All right.
09:30 So sounds like you're making some changes there,
09:32 you're going down and your forcing
09:34 the blood pressure to go up.
09:35 Well, you're activating
09:36 different parts of the nervous system.
09:37 Oh I see, okay.
09:39 This is the carotid sinus, turns on the parasympathetic.
09:42 Left side, right side?
09:43 It doesn't matter they both have that, you know, you can rub
09:45 that and it helps turn on the parasympathetic system
09:49 which can override this stress symptoms.
09:52 Same thing as deep breathing Yeah.
09:53 You also can sometimes over right.
09:55 Okay, very good. All right.
09:56 Another question here form heartwiseministries.org
09:59 this is from Brenda in Florida and Brenda asks, sometimes
10:02 I get worried and make my self sick.
10:05 She worries her self sick. Yeah.
10:06 I also have a hard time concentrating.
10:09 How can I make my mind stronger?
10:11 Good question.
10:12 Yeah., and we talked about this earlier in the program
10:15 is I think the greatest thing is to plug into this word
10:18 called love and as we have more love,
10:21 we'll have less selfishness.
10:23 Love casts out fear as we have more love we'll have less fear
10:26 and all that stress chemistry will get better.
10:29 Other specific ways to make the mind stronger
10:32 since it is made of physical stuff, lets give the brain
10:35 the physical stuff it needs water,
10:38 good oxygen good circulation with exercises.
10:42 We know that some of the alpha omega 3 fatty acids
10:45 it's been shown to be very useful for brain health.
10:48 We also know that diet
10:50 filled with fresh vegetables
10:51 nuts and grains is very useful for that.
10:54 We also know that the diet
10:56 filled with saturated fats is bad for the brain.
10:59 We also know that too much process sugar
11:01 is bad for the brain.
11:02 Things like caffeine might be bad for the brain.
11:06 Being outside is good for the brain
11:08 being in the dark outside is bad for the brain.
11:11 Getting enough rest both the weekly rest
11:13 and the nightly rest is good for the brain,
11:15 thinking is good for the brain. Yes.
11:18 We also, there's some studies going so that the people
11:20 that watch television that might not be so good for the brain.
11:24 People that are creative
11:25 that might be good for the brain.
11:27 And lastly there're some studies out
11:29 there that say worship is good for the brain.
11:31 And we can make the brain stronger
11:33 by just worshipping and praising God.
11:35 Music the right type of music might be good for the brain,
11:37 so everything really affects the brain, Charles.. Yes.
11:40 So, we want to get back
11:41 to the biblical principals to help our brain.
11:43 Have you noticed that?
11:44 Have you noticed that everything Dr. Marcum
11:47 says here circles right around to the first chapter of Genesis.
11:52 Have you noticed that?
11:54 All the prescriptions that he's given here, all of the ideas
11:59 and guidelines he's given takes us right back here to this book.
12:03 And right back here to the Eden ideal
12:05 that God put in place for us.
12:08 We don't have to look very far to find
12:10 what God has in mind for us in our health.
12:12 We don't have to search very far at all, it's all right here.
12:16 And we have to believe that God knew what he was talking about
12:20 that he's saying these things in love to us and that God
12:23 wants us to follow his guidelines
12:25 because he wants what's best for us, it's right here.
12:28 And I recommend and I recommend strongly
12:31 that you spend some time here looking for the God
12:34 who loves you.
12:35 Stay tuned.
12:41 We started the programme by asking the question
12:44 what does love have to do with it?
12:46 I think after watching today you realize that love
12:50 has everything to do with it and it has to be a part
12:53 of every treatment plan.
12:55 If we don't have love, we have selfishness.
12:58 And sometimes if we don't have love correctly defined
13:01 we have fear which also damages our chemistry.
13:04 I am going to pray for you right now that you will have this type
13:07 of love that God wants us to have in our lives,
13:09 shall we bow our heads.
13:12 Father in heaven as we come to You, we know that you are love
13:16 please reveal your love to us
13:18 through this relationship we have.
13:20 And if there is someone out there that hasn't entered
13:22 in this relationship,
13:23 Father please help change their lives right now Father.
13:26 Open us to truth and help us to understand your real nature
13:30 what you really like and not to believe all that perceptions
13:33 of you that are out there, so that we might truly
13:36 have this healing love which indeed changes our chemistry.
13:40 Is our humble pray Father, amen.
13:44 You know, as we think far about modern medicine today
13:47 you know there is a place for chemistry,
13:50 technology, there's a place for that.
13:53 There's a place for lifestyle, we've talked about exercise.
13:56 But I'm afraid we need to add some thing
13:58 more to that to the mix we have in this world.
14:01 And I want you to take this message to your friends
14:03 and let them know too that we're all healers
14:05 when we have that love relationship
14:07 with our heavenly Father that gives us a treatment
14:09 to offer to the world when we love some one by serving
14:12 them we improve our own chemistry.
14:15 They feel loved everything starts to work better
14:17 and more than that we introduce them to the Ultimate physician
14:21 the great physician the Ultimate Prescription
14:24 this is what we want to do in our lives.
14:26 So don't step back and say I can't do this do it today.
14:30 God will give you the power,
14:32 blessings as we move forward in this mission.
