00:01 The following program presents principles
00:02 designed to promote good health 00:04 and is not intended to take the place 00:05 of personalized professional care. 00:07 The opinions and ideas expressed are those of the speaker. 00:11 Viewers are encouraged to draw their own conclusions 00:13 about the information presented. 00:17 How can we know the difference between fact and fiction? 00:21 How can we differentiate between what's true 00:23 when it comes to our health, 00:25 and what's an outright lie? Stay tuned. 00:28 I'm Dr James Marcum. 00:30 Are you interested in discovering the reason why? 00:34 You want solutions to your healthcare problem. 00:36 Are you tired of taking medications? 00:39 Well, you're about to be given the Ultimate Prescription. 00:44 Being lied to is never a pleasant experience. 00:47 But folks, I've got some bad news 00:49 and some good news for you today. 00:51 The bad news is you're being lied too constantly. 00:54 The good news is you're about to learn 00:56 how to recognize truth when no one else seems to. 01:00 It all comes down to sources. Dr Marcum, 01:03 you are a board certified cardiologist. 01:06 When did you first begin to realize 01:07 that many in your profession weren't revealing the truth 01:10 the whole truth and nothing but the truth? 01:14 Well, Charles, that I can't specifically say 01:16 on June 4th, 1992. 01:19 This was a gradual process that happened in my life 01:22 and in the practice of medicine. 01:25 In fact, that's one of the reasons 01:27 I'm standing here today is because I want people 01:29 to know that there is truth out there 01:31 and 98% truth is still a lie. 01:35 And I can think back, you know, in my early days, 01:38 I went to school to University of Texas 01:40 and they had a tower at the University of Texas. 01:42 And on that tower there was an inscription 01:44 and this was that famous tower that become famous 01:46 when that shooter was shooting people. 01:48 It says, "You shall know the truth, 01:50 and the truth set you free." 01:53 Well, in my practice of medicine I wasn't feeling free. 01:56 There is people that kept coming back over and over 01:59 and they weren't getting better. 02:01 And this put me in sort of a bondage and I said, 02:03 "There's got to be something better." 02:05 And that's when I turn to the truth in the Bible, 02:08 the ultimate medical textbook-- 02:10 and I don't think my professors 02:11 and the people I trained with were doing this on purpose. 02:14 I just think that they didn't have as much knowledge. 02:16 And I think there's other programs out there 02:18 that talk about health and they give 02:20 a great explanation of medical technology 02:23 and great explanations of lifestyle. 02:25 But there's more truth that needs to be explored. 02:28 And so it's sort of a process that I've realized that you know 02:31 everything out there, you can't believe. 02:33 And it's very important for our viewers to realize 02:36 that you can't believe everything you're told 02:38 or everything you hear. 02:39 You have to go back to the Bible. 02:41 And the truth that set you free is that relationship. 02:45 And as I entered into that relationship 02:47 with the Heavenly Father, 02:48 little bits of truth came as I could handle it. 02:51 One bit at a time and eventually 02:53 I sort of putting things together and I realized, 02:56 "Hey, truth not only applies to spiritual things, 02:58 it applies to medicine." Yeah. 03:00 This truth wraps up everything. 03:02 And this truth is setting me free is that relationship 03:05 and the Bible is my medical textbook. 03:07 And I wanna use that as the source of truth. 03:10 You make an interesting point here. 03:11 You're saying that it doesn't necessarily mean 03:15 the doctors are trying to be malicious. 03:16 It doesn't necessarily mean that 03:18 the people who are telling the lie 03:21 are trying to harm you in anyway. 03:22 They just don't know the difference. That's right. 03:24 Okay, so it's an innocent deception. 03:26 They don't know the full--the full package. 03:29 That's why we've talked about creation 03:31 and getting back to the very basics. 03:32 I have a story I want to tell you, Charles. All right. 03:34 I think it's very interesting. 03:35 I took care of a patient a few years ago, 03:38 and he had a congenital heart disease 03:40 called congenital aortic stenosis. 03:43 And this is where the valve just doesn't open very well. 03:46 And he came to me with symptoms. 03:48 He has a shortness of breath. 03:49 He was having chest pain 03:50 and we did a few test and echocardiogram. 03:52 We looked at the heart. We did a heart catheterization. 03:55 And we said, you know, "You have aortic stenosis." 03:58 And he says, "Well, what is that?" 03:59 and I explained what it was. 04:01 And I says, "It wasn't your fault. 04:03 This was congenital that you were born with this problem. 04:05 It's probably passed on from your genetics. 04:07 There's nothing that you did. 04:08 It wasn't a diet related thing or anything you'd done. 04:11 And you have a choice at this point." 04:13 And he says, "Well, I wasn't warned with it. 04:15 I have a choice. I feel great about this choice." 04:18 And I said, "Well, one 04:19 we can fix this heart valve surgically 04:22 and you won't have aortic stenosis, 04:25 or two, you can stay with this heart valve 04:27 for the rest of your life which wouldn't be very long 04:29 and you'll die." Okay. 04:32 And, you know, I said, "You know, you were born 04:34 into the situation that you didn't like." Yes. 04:37 "And now you have some truth that you have to face up with 04:40 and you can believe me in what I'm telling you 04:42 that if you have the surgery and you go down this path." 04:45 Yes. You're gonna do well. 04:46 But you also have the choice. Yeah. 04:48 You can go down the other path 04:49 and choose not to have surgery. 04:51 If you want you can get some second opinions 04:54 about this and go to get more people to talk about it. 04:57 And of course, he went on the internet 04:59 and someone on the internet said, 05:00 "Oh you can do this or that the other." 05:02 So now, he's got two different things that he can believe. 05:05 Does he want to believe me 05:06 or he just want to believe someone else? 05:08 He wanted to do some lifestyle things. 05:10 And I said, "I don't think that's a great idea. 05:12 You're having symptoms. You know, 05:13 you have this disease that was genetically 05:17 and now you have to deal with this disease. 05:18 You have to find the truth to get better." 05:21 This was an acute situation-- 05:22 Yes, yes, You have to--you know, 05:24 but it happened over years and years. 05:25 Either you have some type of truth that has to enter 05:27 your life to get over the symptom. Yeah. 05:30 And so as I explain this eventually it took him a while. 05:32 But eventually, he decided to have this saving surgery 05:35 that literally saved his moral life. Yes. 05:38 And he didn't have to suffer this death. 05:41 So I tell the story to let people know 05:44 that there's all sorts of conditions 05:46 that we're in that need-- we need to find truth in. 05:48 We were born in a very terrible sixth state. Yes. 05:52 We didn't choose that state, did we, Charles? Not at all. 05:54 It was given to us. We have it. 05:56 And yet we have a choice 05:58 that we make consciously in order to be healed. 06:01 Now we can choose not to have surgery. 06:03 We can choose not to have the consultant 06:04 with the great physician. 06:05 And surgery is hard, I mean, 06:06 surgery is not a pleasant experience. 06:08 No, this is not easy to go through. Okay. 06:09 Some of the things you have to go through 06:11 with surgery is not easy. 06:12 But it's the way to stay alive if you had this condition. 06:15 Or many of us have this condition 06:17 in all sort of things-- In our lives. 06:20 And we have the opportunity to make to choose a path, 06:23 you know, and it's based on truth. 06:25 And where do we find this truth? 06:27 Do you trust the people, you got to-- 06:28 for instance he trusted me eventually. 06:30 But I had to show him evidence 06:32 that my way of a surgery was the best way for him. 06:35 This was the path that was the best way. 06:37 I really cared about him. I wanted him to be well. 06:39 I didn't want him to die. 06:41 I love this guy, but at the same time 06:43 he had the right to make this other decision. 06:46 He could have gone the natural way 06:47 and gone this pathway. 06:49 And yet people in healthcare 06:50 they have this decision everyday. 06:52 It might be with aortic stenosis. 06:54 It might be with a cancer. It might be with depression. 06:57 It might be with mental disease, it might be-- 06:59 and where do they go to get the truth? 07:00 And so they come into the healthcare 07:02 and they hear all sorts of things. 07:03 And they have to make some type of decisions 07:05 in order to be healed in order to be well. 07:08 Well, our lives are a little bit like this, Charles. 07:10 Absolutely, our spiritual life. 07:11 As you were saying this, I was just thinking 07:12 about how we live our spiritual life, because 07:16 God is being our physician. And God is saying, "Okay. 07:20 We have two paths going here. 07:21 Here is this path and it's gonna lead one way. 07:23 And here's another path, 07:24 and this path may require some work from you. 07:26 There may be some changes need to be happening 07:28 in your life, but you choose. 07:30 " God lets us choose. 07:31 And the end result of those paths 07:34 are not necessarily an act of God. 07:37 The end result of value is just where it goes, 07:39 where it takes us. But my patient, 07:40 I didn't want him to choose the path 07:42 that will lead to a death over a period of time. 07:44 Now if he took that path 07:46 and that patient went and he said, 07:48 "I'm not gonna listen to Dr Marcum. 07:49 I'm just gonna go over there." 07:51 And he goes over there and dies. 07:53 What if his family came to you and said, 07:54 "It's your fault. Your fault, you told him. 07:57 You could've saved him, your fault." 07:59 I would tell them, you know, it wasn't my choice to have him 08:03 choose this and him to die. This wasn't my choice. 08:05 I wanted him to be well. I want him to get well. 08:08 I wanted him to have the surgery 08:10 to feel better for the rest of his life. Yes. 08:12 I wanted this, and I tried everything. Yeah. 08:14 But the same time he had to find truth 08:16 and he had to look at all the evidence 08:18 it was out there, and use that evidence to make 08:21 some type of informed decision. 08:22 And I gave him the evidence that I had. 08:24 I try to demonstrate. I showed him all the patients 08:27 and the randomized studies that were out there. 08:29 People that had surgery and didn't have surgery. 08:32 But at some point the choice was his-- 08:34 I didn't kill him. I didn't do it. 08:36 It was his choice. He had freedom. 08:38 He'd this process what we call liberty. 08:40 And this liberty was-- he had freedom. Yes. 08:42 But he chose this. And God comes to us. 08:46 Oh this is a great story. 08:47 And God comes to us and says, 08:48 "You know, there are the two paths. 08:50 Here's what's gonna happen to you. 08:51 But look, I have some studies here, I have some studies. 08:54 I want you to read about this person. 08:55 I want you to read that person. 08:56 Look what happened when they took that path. 08:58 Look what happened when she took that path." 09:02 We don't blame God for the bad things 09:06 that happened in our lives, 09:07 because God is telling us how to live, 09:10 how to take care of ourselves, 09:11 how to take care of our minds and bodies. 09:14 Don't blame God for the results 09:16 of the path you're on. 09:18 There is an evil one here. There is an anti-truth. 09:22 There is deception going on here. 09:24 Don't blame God, instead use God's information. 09:27 Use God's motivation. 09:29 Use God's presence in your life to change paths. 09:33 And so on this new path even though life may be tough, 09:36 even though bad things are happening. 09:37 You're walking hand in hand with God. 09:39 It's a very different environment 09:41 in which to live your life, It's a very different path. 09:44 Yeah, and it's when we're lookingfor truth in medicine. 09:47 And that's very important 'cause there's so many people 09:49 out there throwing their theories around. Yeah. 09:52 You know, we see them on television. 09:53 We see them on internet. 09:54 The doctors are throwing things around. 09:57 And what sometimes we just focus on 09:59 is the temporary, the here and now. 10:01 My patient, of course, had his surgery. 10:04 He did well. He made a right decision. 10:06 He thanked me so much. 10:08 But addition I explained to him, 10:09 you know, this is just a part of life. 10:11 There's more to life. 10:12 There's more to our purpose than this. 10:14 You know, there's a heavenly truth. Yes. 10:16 And this truth is gonna set you free. 10:19 And I remember back the University of Texas' days 10:21 "You shall know the truth." 10:22 Well, where is the only source of truth in this world?" 10:25 What can we really believe? 10:26 And we've started way back at Eden all the deceptions. 10:29 So we have to find the truth. 10:31 You either believe in the truths in the Bible 10:33 and what God says is truth or you don't. 10:35 Now I've a lot of people say, "You know, Dr Marcum, 10:37 you talk about the Bible all the time 10:40 and it works great if the Bible is true." Yeah. 10:42 "If the Bible is not true, we have major problems." 10:45 So the very first thing that we need to do, Dr Marcum, 10:48 the very first thing we need to do 10:50 is we have to decide once and for all 10:52 that this book is truth. That's correct. 10:56 That what we find in here is absolute truth. 10:59 We need to be so convinced in our hearts 11:02 and in our minds so that when we read something. 11:05 And when we read this and that, when we read about health 11:07 and when we read the creation story, we're saying, 11:09 "That's true, that's true. This is not error. 11:12 I can believe this. I can follow it." 11:14 Yes, I can take it to the bank. Yes. 11:17 This is something I can depend on. 11:18 And when people ask me 11:19 and they've asked me a bunch of times, 11:21 "How do you know that the Bible is true?" 11:23 Well, in my life when I see God working 11:25 that's a proof to me that the Bible is true. 11:27 But some people need more evidence. 11:30 Years ago when I was getting involved in Christianity, 11:33 I read this book called 11:34 'More than a Carpenter' by Josh McDowell. 11:37 And he went and scientifically he proved 11:39 all of the prophecies things that were predicted 11:41 hundreds and thousands of years that came true. 11:44 And there is no way this fellow could have predicted this, 11:46 these prophets who did this. 11:48 He also went to the archeology 11:50 and showed all the archeology was true. 11:51 But now through programs like this and modern medicine, 11:54 I'm hoping to show through medicine 11:56 another pathway that people can believe the Bible is true 11:59 because God, all His laws are true 12:01 and we're proving them chemically. 12:02 That's another way we can know the Bible is true. 12:04 So as we have the evidence that the Bible is true. 12:08 I say, "This is the relationship. 12:10 The great physician I want to consult with. 12:12 This is who I want to make an appointment with to find truth, 12:15 and He will help me find the right doctors. 12:17 He'll help me to find the right treatments. 12:19 He'll help me find the right lifestyle plans. 12:21 He'll help me accomplish the goals that He has. 12:23 But all comes down to believing that the Bible is true. 12:27 It's the true word of God. 12:28 And He wants me to choose the right path. 12:30 He's just giving me evidence, because He loves me so much." 12:34 You know, so many times I hear of this new miracle drug, 12:38 or I hear of this new miracle treatment or procedure, 12:41 or I see a website that says, 12:43 "You know, if you do this and that 12:46 wonderful things will happen to you. 12:48 If you make this phone call, if you take this pill or potion, 12:51 if you think this way, if you act this way 12:54 changes will come into your life." 12:56 And I'm hearing you say that, "Well, okay. 12:59 Before I act on any of those things" Yes. 13:02 "Before I believe it, I need to take this book." Yes. 13:07 "And I need to look at that through this book." 13:09 And make an appointment with the master physician, 13:12 the great physician ask him about it. 13:14 Yes. Does this make sense? 13:15 What does the evidence show? I'm on the path with you. 13:18 You'll give me your wisdom, help me make this decision. 13:21 Remember the doctors do what they can, 13:23 but sometimes they have limited knowledge 13:25 about everything. Yeah. 13:26 You know, and some people 13:27 just don't have the full body of truth. 13:29 So that's what I would do. All right. 13:32 We'll take a short break. And when we come back, 13:33 we're gonna talk about some of the questions 13:35 that have come into heartwiseministries.org. 13:38 And we're gonna use Biblical technology 13:40 to answer them. Stay tuned. |
