Take an herb. 00:00:20.89\00:00:24.39 Or do you make an appointment 00:00:24.40\00:00:25.70 with your doctor? Stay tuned. 00:00:25.71\00:00:27.98 I'm Dr James Marcum. 00:00:29.95\00:00:32.02 Are you interested in discovering the reason why? 00:00:32.03\00:00:35.41 You want solutions to your healthcare problem. 00:00:35.42\00:00:38.10 Are you tired of taking medications? 00:00:38.11\00:00:41.04 Well, you're about to be given Ultimate Prescription. 00:00:41.05\00:00:44.48 You know I've identified a common challenge 00:00:47.39\00:00:49.66 especially among Bible reading Christians. 00:00:49.67\00:00:52.25 We want to believe in the healing power of prayer. 00:00:52.26\00:00:55.36 We want to enjoy the healing energies 00:00:55.37\00:00:57.15 that God has placed in plants. 00:00:57.16\00:00:59.49 But we also know that physicians as well trained 00:00:59.50\00:01:01.84 as they might be, don't have all the answers either. 00:01:01.85\00:01:05.53 When do we put our faith in modern technology 00:01:05.54\00:01:08.10 and when do we turn to Biblical technology? 00:01:08.11\00:01:10.70 Dr Marcum, our lives are on the line here. 00:01:10.71\00:01:14.38 Yeah. That's a great question. 00:01:14.39\00:01:17.34 Where is the balance in medicine? 00:01:17.35\00:01:19.23 You know, where-- when do we use technology. 00:01:19.24\00:01:21.41 When do we use lifestyle changes? 00:01:21.42\00:01:23.61 When do we leave herbs? 00:01:23.62\00:01:24.77 When do you use massage? 00:01:24.78\00:01:26.23 You know, when do you use all these things? 00:01:26.24\00:01:28.43 Well, Charles, if you're having a heart attack 00:01:28.44\00:01:31.18 and if I don't get a stent in you, 00:01:31.19\00:01:32.84 you're gonna die. Yes. 00:01:32.85\00:01:34.05 That's a great place for modern medicine. 00:01:34.06\00:01:35.59 That's a wonderful place for modern medicine. 00:01:35.60\00:01:37.31 If you're in a car accident and you're bleeding to death, 00:01:37.32\00:01:39.96 you severed a major artery. The EMS comes. 00:01:39.97\00:01:43.23 You know, we're able to sew that back together 00:01:43.24\00:01:45.50 and save your life. 00:01:45.51\00:01:46.50 That's a great place for modern medicine. 00:01:46.51\00:01:49.50 If your heart's going 20 times a beat, 00:01:49.51\00:01:51.83 won't go any faster. 00:01:51.84\00:01:53.11 You need a pacemaker to keep you alive. 00:01:53.12\00:01:55.70 That's a great place for modern medicine. 00:01:55.71\00:01:58.52 When I look about all this technology 00:01:58.53\00:02:00.32 that we have out there, we have a lot of technology. 00:02:00.33\00:02:02.58 It's allover the place. 00:02:02.59\00:02:04.68 I wish throughout time that we develop 00:02:04.69\00:02:07.28 Biblical technology and those concepts 00:02:07.29\00:02:10.19 as much as we develop scientific technology 00:02:10.20\00:02:13.12 and what I called the gadgets. Yes. 00:02:13.13\00:02:15.46 But the place for modern medicine 00:02:15.47\00:02:17.46 usually is in an acute care situation. 00:02:17.47\00:02:20.59 When something is going wrong right now, 00:02:20.60\00:02:23.06 or if you don't need something happen-- 00:02:23.07\00:02:24.73 something doesn't happen to you 00:02:24.74\00:02:25.80 will have something serious. Yeah. 00:02:25.81\00:02:27.52 You know, you pull a kid out that's drowning. 00:02:27.53\00:02:29.53 His lungs are filled with water. 00:02:29.54\00:02:31.65 You know, you do some CPR, 00:02:31.66\00:02:33.20 you know, help him breathe better. 00:02:33.21\00:02:34.91 A ventilator if we don't do something someone's gonna die. 00:02:34.92\00:02:37.42 If your heart's out of rhythm, 00:02:38.75\00:02:40.19 if we don't shock 'em right now, they're gonna die. 00:02:40.20\00:02:43.02 So I use--I like to tell my patients, 00:02:43.03\00:02:45.45 "That's the place that's best for acute care medicine." 00:02:45.46\00:02:48.62 That's where we really want to use the technology. 00:02:48.63\00:02:51.02 Then we wanna step back and say, 00:02:51.03\00:02:53.98 "Why did we need technology? 00:02:53.99\00:02:57.18 What did we do that caused 00:02:57.19\00:02:58.66 the need for technology and there's-- 00:02:58.67\00:03:00.72 is there anything we can change?" 00:03:00.73\00:03:02.54 I have a patient who came to me not too long ago, 00:03:02.55\00:03:05.37 55 years old, done everything right, exercised everyday. 00:03:05.38\00:03:10.07 Ate all the right foods. 00:03:10.08\00:03:11.73 Blood pressure perfect, cholesterol exemplary. 00:03:11.74\00:03:15.20 He had his heart attack at age 55. 00:03:15.21\00:03:17.13 All three arteries were blocked. 00:03:17.14\00:03:19.21 He came and says, "You know, where can I do? 00:03:19.22\00:03:21.30 I have a good relationship with God. 00:03:21.31\00:03:22.83 I'm having a daily rest. All the stuff is going on." 00:03:22.84\00:03:25.40 Makes me very frustrated. 00:03:25.41\00:03:26.47 "What did I do wrong? 00:03:26.48\00:03:27.58 Where do--Where can I go from here?" Yeah. 00:03:27.59\00:03:29.87 I said, well--you know, 00:03:29.88\00:03:30.89 we put a stent in his right coronary artery 00:03:30.90\00:03:32.83 and that helped him--his symptoms quite a bit. Yeah. 00:03:32.84\00:03:35.41 And I said, "You know what, the genetic stress 00:03:35.42\00:03:37.84 that's come throughout time. 00:03:37.85\00:03:39.75 You know, if you wouldn't have done all those things-- 00:03:39.76\00:03:41.53 tell me about your dad?" 00:03:41.54\00:03:43.12 And his dad had his heart attack at age 40. 00:03:43.13\00:03:46.11 So 15 years earlier. 00:03:46.12\00:03:47.42 I said, "Well, if you hadn't done this, 00:03:47.43\00:03:48.77 maybe you would've had it that much earlier." 00:03:48.78\00:03:51.28 And even though the world is not perfect, okay? 00:03:51.29\00:03:54.21 We have to understand that there is a balance. 00:03:54.22\00:03:56.10 And that's what I like about this relationship 00:03:56.11\00:03:58.17 that people can, you know, with their Heavenly Father. 00:03:58.18\00:04:00.31 That you know what, 00:04:00.32\00:04:01.53 if we die of some catastrophic illness, 00:04:01.54\00:04:04.95 if we die and were in that relationship, 00:04:04.96\00:04:06.90 what do we have to fear. 00:04:06.91\00:04:08.90 But if we're healed with technology for years 00:04:08.91\00:04:11.50 and years and years and die, 00:04:11.51\00:04:12.78 and don't have that relationship, 00:04:12.79\00:04:14.68 what do we have to look forward to? 00:04:14.69\00:04:17.14 So the place for--there is a place for modern technology 00:04:17.15\00:04:20.21 and there is overlap, you know. 00:04:20.22\00:04:22.28 And what I also use modern-- I use pills for people. 00:04:22.29\00:04:25.43 But I use pills to take away the acute problem 00:04:25.44\00:04:28.54 and so hopefully they can change their chemistry. 00:04:28.55\00:04:31.43 And I look like these changes 00:04:32.33\00:04:33.72 that we've been talking about over the preceding programs 00:04:33.73\00:04:36.28 as a way to change your chemistry 00:04:36.29\00:04:37.73 from Biblical technology 00:04:37.74\00:04:39.71 And I use modern technology, 00:04:39.72\00:04:42.27 technology as a bridge sometimes to get them 00:04:42.28\00:04:44.52 that especially with medications. 00:04:44.53\00:04:46.64 You know, I don't like the medications. 00:04:46.65\00:04:48.58 I prescribe people to wear sleep apnea mask 00:04:48.59\00:04:51.37 where they blow oxygen so they don't suffocate 00:04:51.38\00:04:53.63 in the middle of the night. Yes. 00:04:53.64\00:04:54.77 But that's only a bridge to help them lose the weight 00:04:54.78\00:04:57.49 so maybe they don't have sleep apnea. 00:04:57.50\00:04:59.86 But at the same time, if they had genetic problems, 00:04:59.87\00:05:02.80 they might need modern medicine 00:05:02.81\00:05:04.49 and they might need it continually. 00:05:04.50\00:05:06.48 The gentleman who had the stents 00:05:06.49\00:05:07.84 is probably gonna need blood thinners 00:05:07.85\00:05:09.29 the rest of his life to help protect the stents. 00:05:09.30\00:05:12.21 Some people have genetically high cholesterol 00:05:12.22\00:05:14.95 and they need medicines the rest of their life. 00:05:14.96\00:05:17.04 Some people have type 1 diabetes. 00:05:17.05\00:05:19.48 Before modern medicine, 00:05:19.49\00:05:20.63 these people would die a premature death. 00:05:20.64\00:05:23.17 Some babies are born that need congenital heart surgery. 00:05:23.18\00:05:26.81 They need modern medicine. 00:05:26.82\00:05:28.96 Some people need the thing-- 00:05:28.97\00:05:30.63 some people have acute strokes. 00:05:30.64\00:05:31.96 And nowadays we can put catheters up into the brain 00:05:31.97\00:05:35.04 and open up the arteries 00:05:35.05\00:05:36.39 and help save those peoples lives. 00:05:36.40\00:05:38.36 Some people are breathing-- bleeding in the brain 00:05:38.37\00:05:40.74 from a ruptured aneurysm. 00:05:40.75\00:05:42.22 We can do surgery if we get them 00:05:42.23\00:05:43.41 quick enough and fix that aneurysm. 00:05:43.42\00:05:45.40 Some people have aneurysms in other blood vessels, 00:05:45.41\00:05:47.40 we can help them. 00:05:47.41\00:05:48.40 Some people kidneys fail 00:05:48.41\00:05:50.29 and they would die without dialysis. 00:05:50.30\00:05:52.65 That's a place for modern medicine. 00:05:52.66\00:05:54.85 There're some cancers that can be treated 00:05:54.86\00:05:56.64 successfully with modern medicine. 00:05:56.65\00:05:59.05 If I had a malignant melanoma here in my arm 00:05:59.06\00:06:01.58 and didn't have it removed 00:06:01.59\00:06:02.73 at a young stage that could be fatal. 00:06:02.74\00:06:05.51 That's a place for modern medicine. 00:06:05.52\00:06:07.86 If I detect colon cancer early and treat that, 00:06:07.87\00:06:11.20 that's a place for modern medicine. 00:06:11.21\00:06:13.52 So there is a place for modern medicine 00:06:13.53\00:06:15.63 the acute care technology and knowing how it fits 00:06:15.64\00:06:18.41 into this continuum is very important. 00:06:18.42\00:06:20.47 And there's many programs out there 00:06:20.48\00:06:24.25 that people can watch it deal with technology 00:06:24.26\00:06:27.06 that deal with lifestyle. 00:06:27.07\00:06:28.47 But what we're trying to bring to the table 00:06:28.48\00:06:30.76 is we want you to think about the ultimate physician 00:06:30.77\00:06:34.72 and his plan for you, and how to integrate lifestyle 00:06:34.73\00:06:38.18 as well as modern technology and also knowing the power 00:06:38.19\00:06:42.68 that can come from that relationship 00:06:42.69\00:06:44.47 and how He gives His power to understand 00:06:44.48\00:06:46.65 when we should use technology, 00:06:46.66\00:06:48.19 when we should use lifestyle and bring it altogether. 00:06:48.20\00:06:51.30 Now that brings a question to mind 00:06:51.31\00:06:53.72 because as I drive around my town 00:06:53.73\00:06:56.90 and I stop by doctors' offices 00:06:56.91\00:07:00.10 and I look at the parking lot, 00:07:00.11\00:07:02.26 the doctor's offices are filled with cars out there. 00:07:02.27\00:07:05.98 And if you walk into the doctor's office, 00:07:05.99\00:07:08.28 you see rows and rows of people, 00:07:08.29\00:07:11.08 they're not having a heart attack. 00:07:11.09\00:07:13.17 They're not a victim of an accident. 00:07:13.18\00:07:16.05 They're not bleeding on the floor. 00:07:16.06\00:07:17.89 All these people have been there sitting quietly 00:07:17.90\00:07:20.28 waiting to see a doctor wanting modern technology 00:07:20.29\00:07:25.10 to deal with the problem they're facing. 00:07:25.11\00:07:28.01 Is there an issue there? Is there a problem there? 00:07:28.02\00:07:30.75 Yes. There's a major problem. 00:07:30.76\00:07:32.91 And we have a big healthcare crisis in our country. 00:07:32.92\00:07:35.90 You know, one in every $5 is spent on healthcare. 00:07:35.91\00:07:38.72 And we're not necessarily solving any problems, 00:07:38.73\00:07:41.36 but we're treating many symptoms. 00:07:41.37\00:07:43.88 Unfortunately, our system-- 00:07:43.89\00:07:45.30 I don't know about the other physicians, 00:07:45.31\00:07:46.80 but I have 10 minutes to see a follow-up patient 00:07:46.81\00:07:49.38 and 20 minutes to see a new patient. 00:07:49.39\00:07:51.58 We cannot cover all the things 00:07:51.59\00:07:53.23 that need to be accomplished in that short period of time. 00:07:53.24\00:07:56.12 That's why I like to get information on programs 00:07:56.13\00:07:58.24 like this where people can have more information 00:07:58.25\00:08:00.61 to know all these things. 00:08:00.62\00:08:01.82 But, yes, we have a big problem. 00:08:01.83\00:08:03.88 It's more than any one person can correct. 00:08:03.89\00:08:07.87 But we have to have each individual 00:08:07.88\00:08:09.63 look at their health and work individually. 00:08:09.64\00:08:12.41 We're not gonna solve it with a government mandate. 00:08:12.42\00:08:14.59 We're not gonna solve it with insurance companies. 00:08:14.60\00:08:16.73 The American Medical Association's 00:08:16.74\00:08:18.37 not gonna solve this problem. 00:08:18.38\00:08:20.21 But we do have a problem and I think people recognize it. 00:08:20.22\00:08:23.28 But, unfortunately, in the world we live in, 00:08:23.29\00:08:25.34 unless we can change everything, 00:08:25.35\00:08:27.18 I don't think the real problem's gonna be solved 00:08:27.19\00:08:29.38 until Christ comes home and heals us. 00:08:29.39\00:08:31.50 But those people sitting in that doctor's office 00:08:31.51\00:08:34.64 have come there to be fixed. 00:08:34.65\00:08:37.19 They have a problem and you're calling it a symptom. Yes. 00:08:37.20\00:08:40.09 They're coming and they say, 00:08:40.10\00:08:41.52 "Doctor, fix me." Can you even do that? 00:08:41.53\00:08:44.49 And that's why I like to be very honest. 00:08:44.50\00:08:46.51 And some people do not like the honest approach. 00:08:46.52\00:08:49.16 When I look someone in the eye and say, 00:08:49.17\00:08:50.44 "Listen, um, I can't fix this problem. 00:08:50.45\00:08:53.15 I can help the symptoms but I can't fix this problem." 00:08:53.16\00:08:56.32 The high blood pressure. Yes. 00:08:56.33\00:08:57.55 High blood sugar, the arterial sclerosis, 00:08:57.56\00:09:01.46 these little things are happening inside of us. 00:09:01.47\00:09:03.58 You can't fix it? 00:09:03.59\00:09:04.60 No, we can't fix it but we can lower the risk some. 00:09:04.61\00:09:07.79 And when I tell them that it's gonna take 00:09:07.80\00:09:09.34 getting back to God's plan to sort of lower your risk, 00:09:09.35\00:09:12.60 it's gonna take His healing power. 00:09:12.61\00:09:14.24 Friends and Charles, you know, 00:09:14.25\00:09:16.13 when you have a broken arm, 00:09:16.14\00:09:17.52 the doctor sets the arm but who really does the healing? 00:09:17.53\00:09:21.08 God really does the healing. 00:09:21.09\00:09:22.53 When someone has a heart attack, 00:09:22.54\00:09:23.76 sure we put in a stent to help limit the damage. 00:09:23.77\00:09:26.14 But who really does the healing? 00:09:26.15\00:09:28.04 Where does the healing really come from? 00:09:28.05\00:09:30.20 And as we start thinking along these lines 00:09:30.21\00:09:33.33 and move our focus on the great physician 00:09:33.34\00:09:35.92 and not to focus on technology or even lifestyle, 00:09:35.93\00:09:39.28 I think as we do that, 00:09:39.29\00:09:40.59 we will be blessed. We'll be blessed as people. 00:09:40.60\00:09:43.95 We'll be blessed in this message. 00:09:43.96\00:09:45.52 And when people hear that, they're gonna say, "Yes. 00:09:45.53\00:09:47.80 This is--this makes sense to me. 00:09:47.81\00:09:49.28 I wanna enter into this relationship 00:09:49.29\00:09:50.74 'cause I wanna be healthy. Teach me more. 00:09:50.75\00:09:53.03 This makes sense to me. 00:09:53.04\00:09:54.27 There is someone that loves me 00:09:54.28\00:09:55.81 and wants me to feel better." 00:09:55.82\00:09:57.23 And that will help us know when to use technology. 00:09:57.24\00:09:59.91 I use technology every day. 00:09:59.92\00:10:01.77 Every single day I use it, 00:10:01.78\00:10:03.29 but I try to use it appropriately. 00:10:03.30\00:10:05.85 And some people out there with technology 00:10:05.86\00:10:08.03 they make money of technology. Yes. 00:10:08.04\00:10:09.91 So they--some people that's all they know. 00:10:09.92\00:10:12.22 And that's why we want to educate them on these things. 00:10:12.23\00:10:14.87 We need more studies 00:10:14.88\00:10:15.94 and things that we've talked about today 00:10:15.95\00:10:18.06 about Biblical techniques of how chemistry proves it. 00:10:18.07\00:10:21.13 We have a few studies here and there, 00:10:21.14\00:10:22.71 but we need lots of studies done 00:10:22.72\00:10:24.55 to prove the scientific principles 00:10:24.56\00:10:26.31 behind the Bible. Okay. 00:10:26.32\00:10:27.74 Let's say that there's a patient 00:10:27.75\00:10:31.12 standing outside of a doctor's office, 00:10:31.13\00:10:33.88 what symptoms would you say require 00:10:35.21\00:10:40.48 that that person open the door 00:10:40.49\00:10:42.81 and go and see the doctor? 00:10:42.82\00:10:44.54 And what symptoms are you saying that, 00:10:44.55\00:10:46.90 "Well, let's go home and let's learn 00:10:46.91\00:10:48.30 some Biblical technology and let's deal with 00:10:48.31\00:10:50.62 those symptoms with lifestyle changes." 00:10:50.63\00:10:53.75 And that's why it takes a relationship 00:10:53.76\00:10:56.41 with your physician who knows you the best 00:10:56.42\00:10:58.96 that can look at the myriad of details that make up you. 00:10:58.97\00:11:02.35 But the physicians don't get it. 00:11:02.36\00:11:04.64 You're rare, Dr Marcum. 00:11:04.65\00:11:06.26 You're not the rule you're the exception to the rule. 00:11:06.27\00:11:09.75 If a person goes to a doctor 00:11:09.76\00:11:11.55 that doctor is gonna give them a procedure or a pill 00:11:11.56\00:11:14.52 and then send them a bill. 00:11:14.53\00:11:15.76 That's going to happen. Yes. 00:11:15.77\00:11:17.76 How do we as patients make the choice 00:11:17.77\00:11:22.25 of where to go to get the help we need. 00:11:22.26\00:11:24.71 Because, you know, if you stop and think about it, 00:11:24.72\00:11:26.37 some of the symptoms that we may be 00:11:26.38\00:11:28.03 suffering from are scary. Yeah. 00:11:28.04\00:11:30.14 We think, "I'm gonna die here. 00:11:30.15\00:11:32.18 I need to do something very quick." 00:11:32.19\00:11:34.38 How do we know when to go see you 00:11:34.39\00:11:36.53 and when to turn the Bible. 00:11:36.54\00:11:37.87 Well, you know, you need to go to find someone you trust. 00:11:37.88\00:11:40.96 And that's why I wanna start people 00:11:40.97\00:11:42.43 with the great physician. 00:11:42.44\00:11:44.33 Usually, if someone thinks we're having an emergency, 00:11:44.34\00:11:46.59 the place to go is an emergency room. Yeah. 00:11:46.60\00:11:48.37 And I tell people, that chest pain that won't go away-- 00:11:48.38\00:11:50.11 Okay, chest pain. All right. 00:11:50.12\00:11:51.30 Chest pain that won't go away. 00:11:51.31\00:11:52.47 A headache that might be an aneurysm. 00:11:52.48\00:11:54.52 Low blood pressure, low blood sugar. 00:11:54.53\00:11:56.51 Many different things that we can't explain that needs 00:11:56.52\00:11:58.69 acute care medicine they need to get to the hospital. 00:11:58.70\00:12:01.26 They need to get acute care help right away. 00:12:01.27\00:12:03.69 Then usually wants-- 00:12:03.70\00:12:04.71 Now are these sudden things that come up? Or I mean-- 00:12:04.72\00:12:06.33 Sometimes, sometimes not. 00:12:06.34\00:12:08.02 There is not--everyone wants a quick answer 00:12:08.03\00:12:11.04 that won't go with everybody. Yeah. 00:12:11.05\00:12:12.79 But we're all individuals 00:12:12.80\00:12:14.30 and each individual has a different answer. Yeah. 00:12:14.31\00:12:16.97 So your answer might not be the same 00:12:16.98\00:12:18.80 as a person whose blood sugar 00:12:18.81\00:12:19.95 has been going higher and higher over a period of time. 00:12:19.96\00:12:22.93 And now they're dehydrated. 00:12:22.94\00:12:24.28 Someone that's had an infection 00:12:24.29\00:12:25.41 for three or four weeks might not need to see 00:12:25.42\00:12:27.45 an emergency right away, 00:12:27.46\00:12:28.53 but as this infection develops, it might be more problems. 00:12:28.54\00:12:31.17 Someone that has cancer that's untreated 00:12:31.18\00:12:33.15 what's according where we get 00:12:33.16\00:12:34.38 the stage of the illness. All right. 00:12:34.39\00:12:36.10 You know, a full-blown heart attack needs help. Yeah. 00:12:36.11\00:12:38.50 But a patient that has stable symptoms 00:12:38.51\00:12:40.49 might be able to be managed in the office for a while. 00:12:40.50\00:12:42.97 So I wish there was an answer that that fit everybody. 00:12:42.98\00:12:46.52 And that's why they call it the practice of medicine. 00:12:46.53\00:12:49.80 It's not this algorithm that works for everyone. 00:12:49.81\00:12:52.51 But there's general principles 00:12:52.52\00:12:53.83 that we want to bring people back to. 00:12:53.84\00:12:55.90 So our viewers right now who are living their lives 00:12:55.91\00:12:58.68 and going through their days to day, 00:12:58.69\00:13:01.34 if they were to start applying some of the principles 00:13:01.35\00:13:05.64 and laws of health that we've been 00:13:05.65\00:13:06.72 talking about on this program. 00:13:06.73\00:13:08.49 Now is the time to do it not later 00:13:08.50\00:13:10.56 when you have a chronic condition, 00:13:10.57\00:13:12.22 let's start changing lifestyle things. 00:13:12.23\00:13:14.26 If you're not dying right now, 00:13:14.27\00:13:16.06 you're not gonna die tomorrow. 00:13:16.07\00:13:17.40 Now is the time to begin dealing with this thing 00:13:17.41\00:13:20.86 from a natural or lifestyle way. 00:13:20.87\00:13:24.09 But if you are short of breath, 00:13:24.10\00:13:25.68 if you have pain in the chest, if you are bleeding out-- 00:13:25.69\00:13:27.94 You're having a symptom. 00:13:27.95\00:13:29.00 If you're having a symptom that is life threatening-- 00:13:29.01\00:13:31.98 you identified just that, 00:13:31.99\00:13:34.26 was the doctor, the thing to do. Okay. 00:13:34.27\00:13:36.35 We have some questions to answer from our viewers 00:13:36.36\00:13:39.11 on our return at www.heartwiseministries.org. 00:13:39.12\00:13:43.95 We'll answer those questions on our return. 00:13:43.96\00:13:45.21 So don't go away. 00:13:45.22\00:13:47.17
