Food is medicine isn't really a new concept, but it does have 00:00:16.95\00:00:20.62 dramatic implications for our lives. 00:00:20.65\00:00:22.75 Stay with us. The Ultimate Prescription starts right now. 00:00:22.78\00:00:26.45 I'm Dr. James Marcum. 00:00:27.49\00:00:29.06 Are you interested in discovering the reason why? 00:00:29.09\00:00:32.33 Do you want solutions to your health care problem? 00:00:32.36\00:00:35.50 Are you tired of taking medications? 00:00:35.53\00:00:38.50 Well, you're about to be given the Ultimate Prescription. 00:00:38.53\00:00:41.97 Thanks for joining us here today at the Ultimate Prescription. 00:00:43.57\00:00:46.44 I'm your host Nick Everson, and I'm here with Dr. James Marcum. 00:00:46.47\00:00:49.21 And on today's program we're going to be 00:00:49.24\00:00:50.78 discussing, Food As Medicine. 00:00:50.81\00:00:52.95 It's not a new concept, but it's a very important one. 00:00:52.98\00:00:55.88 Dr. Marcum, welcome to the program. 00:00:55.92\00:00:57.69 Yeah, this has been an exciting topic to talk about, because not 00:00:57.72\00:01:01.46 often do you hear how food can treat disease 00:01:01.49\00:01:05.46 as well as prevent disease. 00:01:05.49\00:01:07.73 And what we've done is we've looked at the different studies 00:01:07.76\00:01:10.97 that have been done, and pulled the science out. 00:01:11.00\00:01:13.70 And we're trying to teach people how to add these to their lives, 00:01:13.74\00:01:17.27 so they might feel better and do better. 00:01:17.31\00:01:18.97 And it's hard to know where truth is sometimes. 00:01:19.01\00:01:22.04 Yeah, I was just going to say, you mentioned some 00:01:22.08\00:01:23.41 scientific studies here. 00:01:23.45\00:01:24.78 Those are great sources. 00:01:24.81\00:01:26.15 There's also sources on the Internet, and you know, 00:01:26.18\00:01:27.52 your friends tell you different things about health. 00:01:27.55\00:01:29.75 How do you know what is a reliable source when it comes 00:01:29.78\00:01:33.39 to finding out the truth about health? 00:01:33.42\00:01:34.76 Well, it's very hard. 00:01:34.79\00:01:36.12 And not only for medicine, but for anything it's 00:01:36.16\00:01:40.26 hard to know the truth. 00:01:40.30\00:01:41.63 You know, you see stuff on the Internet, and on these websites, 00:01:41.66\00:01:44.77 and on TV, and it's hard to sort through who's making money, 00:01:44.80\00:01:48.74 who's not, who might have a conflict of interest 00:01:48.77\00:01:52.47 when they're writing these things. Sure. 00:01:52.51\00:01:54.54 So it's even hard for me to sort through. 00:01:54.58\00:01:57.25 But a couple of things that I've done is, one of the things 00:01:57.28\00:02:00.25 that I've done is I try to go back to the Scriptures, 00:02:00.28\00:02:03.18 and test it with the Scriptures. 00:02:03.22\00:02:04.69 Is what they're teaching and saying in harmony 00:02:04.72\00:02:07.52 with the Scriptures? Right. 00:02:07.56\00:02:08.89 So that's one thing that has helped me out a lot. 00:02:08.92\00:02:10.99 There is a place for medicines... 00:02:11.03\00:02:13.50 Don't get me wrong. 00:02:13.53\00:02:14.86 ...in modern treatment, especially in acute problems. 00:02:14.90\00:02:17.17 Right. But for chronic disease I sort of 00:02:17.20\00:02:19.33 shake my head sometimes. 00:02:19.37\00:02:20.70 But there's some good websites that I think have some great 00:02:20.74\00:02:23.61 information, and one of them I like to think is our website. 00:02:23.64\00:02:27.18 And what we try to do at Heartwise as a ministry is we 00:02:30.31\00:02:33.98 try to give the balance. 00:02:34.02\00:02:36.12 You know, there's a place for modern medicine. 00:02:36.15\00:02:38.05 There's a place for lifestyle medicine. 00:02:38.09\00:02:40.79 And it's not all about the food. 00:02:40.82\00:02:42.16 There's other things in our life that makes up 00:02:42.19\00:02:43.89 our chemistry, too. Right. 00:02:43.93\00:02:45.86 And we let people know that balance. 00:02:45.89\00:02:47.76 And we help look at other studies, 00:02:47.80\00:02:49.26 and see what's out there. 00:02:49.30\00:02:50.63 And we sort of give that balance. 00:02:50.67\00:02:52.00 And not everyone has the same formula for health. 00:02:52.03\00:02:54.60 You know, what might work for you might not 00:02:54.64\00:02:57.77 work for someone else. 00:02:57.81\00:02:59.14 But one thing that we add is we put, we let people know that 00:02:59.17\00:03:01.78 the most important thing is that relationship they have 00:03:01.81\00:03:04.81 with the heavenly Father. 00:03:04.85\00:03:06.18 Because that's what heals us. 00:03:06.21\00:03:07.88 That brings us all together. 00:03:07.92\00:03:09.28 Some people I see might not ever do everything, or anything, 00:03:09.32\00:03:12.92 right healthfully, but as long as they have that relationship 00:03:12.95\00:03:16.19 they know that God's grace is enough to bring healing. Right. 00:03:16.22\00:03:20.23 And that's encouraging. 00:03:20.26\00:03:21.60 So we show that worship, how worship also, 00:03:21.63\00:03:24.43 separate than exercise and nutrition, 00:03:24.47\00:03:26.43 also has a healing effect; what it does to our DNA, 00:03:26.47\00:03:29.77 what it does to our brains. 00:03:29.80\00:03:31.14 So we like to think our website is a good source of information. 00:03:31.17\00:03:34.98 Right, right. There's one that's very good for diabetics called, 00:03:35.01\00:03:38.51 Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Okay. 00:03:38.55\00:03:41.82 That's Neil Barnard's site. 00:03:44.75\00:03:46.32 And if they go to our website, we have these in 00:03:46.35\00:03:48.76 our reference page, where they can find them again. 00:03:48.79\00:03:52.36 I mean Neil's been on our radio program, and he's very good 00:03:52.39\00:03:56.97 for type 2 diabetics. 00:03:57.00\00:03:58.37 Another good site is Michael Greggor, and that's: 00:03:58.40\00:04:01.64 That is the site that I go to the most for 00:04:04.44\00:04:08.11 nutritional information. 00:04:08.14\00:04:09.51 Why is that? Because there's no conflict of interest. 00:04:09.54\00:04:13.31 Dr. Greggor's not making any money. 00:04:13.35\00:04:15.32 He's not in anyone's back pocket. 00:04:15.35\00:04:17.55 I know him from being on our programs before. 00:04:17.59\00:04:20.72 He has a good heart. 00:04:20.76\00:04:22.36 He just wants to help people. 00:04:22.39\00:04:24.03 And what he does is he reviews every single nutritional study 00:04:24.06\00:04:28.06 out there and looks at it. 00:04:28.10\00:04:30.57 And he's the reason a lot of these studies are now coming 00:04:30.60\00:04:33.40 to the surface, because he's publicizing. 00:04:33.44\00:04:35.10 And he's taught us which ones are good studies, 00:04:35.14\00:04:37.14 and which ones aren't good. 00:04:37.17\00:04:38.51 So that's an excellent site at: NutritionFacts.org 00:04:38.54\00:04:42.44 Another good one that I work with is, you know, I don't know 00:04:42.48\00:04:46.28 if you've heard of the China Study. Uh huh. 00:04:46.31\00:04:48.38 T. Colin Cambell wrote that. 00:04:48.42\00:04:49.98 But his son, Nelson Cambell, has created a wonderful website 00:04:50.02\00:04:53.12 wonderful website called: 00:04:53.15\00:04:55.26 And that website not only has communities that you can join 00:04:57.66\00:05:01.76 to learn how to be healthier, and eat good, 00:05:01.80\00:05:03.60 it's got cookbooks. 00:05:03.63\00:05:04.97 It's got meals you can actually buy for an affordable price. 00:05:05.00\00:05:08.47 It's got ideas. It's got ten day jump starts. 00:05:08.50\00:05:12.04 It's got lectures. A lot of things it can do. 00:05:12.07\00:05:14.04 It's sort of like a jump starter if you need some extra 00:05:14.08\00:05:16.64 help to get healthy, and understanding. 00:05:16.68\00:05:19.31 So those are some sites that I use on a frequent... 00:05:19.35\00:05:21.68 And there's many other good sites. 00:05:21.72\00:05:23.08 Dr. McDougall has a good site. 00:05:23.12\00:05:25.69 Joel Fuhrman has a site that helps many people. 00:05:25.72\00:05:28.79 So there's many other good sites out there that help people get 00:05:28.82\00:05:32.73 good information about how you can use food as medicine. 00:05:32.76\00:05:36.13 Dr. Hippocrates doesn't have a site. 00:05:36.16\00:05:38.73 You know, back when he was alive, a long time ago, 00:05:38.77\00:05:41.94 they didn't have the Internet. 00:05:41.97\00:05:43.30 But we have so much information. 00:05:43.34\00:05:44.97 I see that you have an iPad there. Yeah. 00:05:45.01\00:05:47.01 We can get information so easy. 00:05:47.04\00:05:48.71 But it's hard to know what's good information, 00:05:48.74\00:05:51.01 and what's bad information. 00:05:51.05\00:05:52.38 Because everyone is throwing stuff out there. 00:05:52.41\00:05:54.38 You know, how do you know what to believe? 00:05:54.42\00:05:55.88 Do you believe what Dr. Oz says? 00:05:55.92\00:05:57.39 Do you believe what Dr. Fuhrman says? 00:05:57.42\00:05:58.79 There's so much out there. 00:05:58.82\00:06:00.49 So that's why... That's what I do to find out the truth. 00:06:00.52\00:06:03.36 Go to the Bible. See if it makes sense. 00:06:03.39\00:06:05.66 Look at the scientific studies. 00:06:05.69\00:06:07.13 And that's what we're trying to do in this series. 00:06:07.16\00:06:09.00 Go through the food. 00:06:09.03\00:06:10.37 And there's many other scientific studies 00:06:10.40\00:06:12.47 that we're not looking at. 00:06:12.50\00:06:13.84 But I tried to choose the strongest studies about 00:06:13.87\00:06:16.64 the foods that where people could use food as medicine. 00:06:16.67\00:06:19.34 Yeah. Now if people haven't seen you on the program before, 00:06:19.37\00:06:21.54 what type of foods are you advocating here? 00:06:21.58\00:06:24.01 Oh, we try to advocate basically eating a whole food 00:06:24.05\00:06:28.12 plant based diet. Eating foods that grow that God's given us. 00:06:28.15\00:06:31.82 Based on what God told us in Genesis about what He wanted, 00:06:31.85\00:06:34.92 designed us to eat: fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains. 00:06:34.96\00:06:37.46 In the Scriptures we have the original health study in Daniel 00:06:37.49\00:06:42.46 which says he wants to eat food that grows, 00:06:42.50\00:06:45.00 that's real food, not a lot of processed foods, and Kibbles. 00:06:45.03\00:06:48.24 Now some people have to eat that to stay alive. 00:06:48.27\00:06:50.51 We certainly understand that. 00:06:50.54\00:06:52.24 And some people, you know, mental health belief systems. 00:06:52.27\00:06:55.44 Those are things that we have to put into the 00:06:55.48\00:06:58.25 equation for individuals. 00:06:58.28\00:06:59.68 Because remember, not every one has the same formula. 00:06:59.71\00:07:02.38 And I tell patients sometimes, I would rather have you be happy 00:07:02.42\00:07:06.29 and eat, you know, something bad occasionally, 00:07:06.32\00:07:09.09 than be an unhappy ogre and eat perfectly. Right. 00:07:09.12\00:07:11.63 Our brain health's important, too. 00:07:11.66\00:07:13.29 But what I found is as you work with people, and teach them how 00:07:13.33\00:07:16.63 to do substitutes, eventually God helps them that when they 00:07:16.67\00:07:19.97 eat bad they feel bad. 00:07:20.00\00:07:21.47 And they're doing things for the right reasons. 00:07:21.50\00:07:23.51 Not for them, but they're doing things because God is 00:07:23.54\00:07:26.41 moving in their lives. 00:07:26.44\00:07:27.78 And that's what we try to get across at Heartwise. 00:07:27.81\00:07:30.28 So that's sort of what I recommend is a whole 00:07:30.31\00:07:32.88 food plant based diet. 00:07:32.91\00:07:34.25 That's not being a vegetarian. 00:07:34.28\00:07:35.65 That's not being a vegan. 00:07:35.68\00:07:37.32 That's eating predominately plants. 00:07:37.35\00:07:39.25 That doesn't mean you never can have something else, 00:07:39.29\00:07:41.19 if that's what it takes to sort of give you the balance. 00:07:41.22\00:07:44.13 But that's sort of what we recommend at our 00:07:44.16\00:07:46.43 Heartwise Ministries website. 00:07:46.46\00:07:47.83 Yeah. Now this sounds like a great plan. 00:07:47.86\00:07:50.70 Is there a movement in society headed this direction? 00:07:50.73\00:07:53.87 Or if not, why is there not more people headed this way? 00:07:53.90\00:07:58.47 Because it's so good for us, and the research shows it. 00:07:58.51\00:08:00.34 I think, you know, if you think back, if you'll look back in the 00:08:00.38\00:08:03.21 50's for instance, everyone thought that cigarettes 00:08:03.24\00:08:06.31 were the best things, you know. 00:08:06.35\00:08:08.18 In fact there was a study that showed that cigarettes, 00:08:08.22\00:08:11.62 they thought was a treatment for lung cancer. 00:08:11.65\00:08:14.02 We know that that's not true! 00:08:14.06\00:08:15.89 And, you know, you wonder who paid for that one. Right. 00:08:15.92\00:08:18.29 You know? And yet throughout time, now we know that 00:08:18.33\00:08:20.76 cigarettes are still so bad for us, and yet 20% of people 00:08:20.80\00:08:24.47 still smoke cigarettes: 20%! 00:08:24.50\00:08:27.50 And yet we know how bad it is. 00:08:27.54\00:08:29.07 Well, I think as time goes on we're going to find out that 00:08:29.10\00:08:32.27 certain foods that we are putting in through years 00:08:32.31\00:08:35.18 and years is what's attributing to our health. 00:08:35.21\00:08:37.55 And if you look, like every year the rates of cancer, 00:08:37.58\00:08:39.78 heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, 00:08:39.81\00:08:43.39 sleep apnea; they go up every year. 00:08:43.42\00:08:45.55 Well, something's causing it. Right. 00:08:45.59\00:08:47.99 It just doesn't happen. 00:08:48.02\00:08:49.36 And yet prescription drugs go up each year. so 00:08:49.39\00:08:51.33 So it doesn't take a person very long to figure out 00:08:51.36\00:08:54.33 the system is not working. 00:08:54.36\00:08:56.06 Well, what's causing chronic disease? 00:08:56.10\00:08:58.67 Is it the food? Is it the stress? 00:08:58.70\00:09:00.84 Is it our lifestyle habits? 00:09:00.87\00:09:02.40 And you have to say, Well, probably. 00:09:02.44\00:09:04.27 And just like cigarettes, sometimes there's a lag time. 00:09:04.31\00:09:06.98 And sometimes people can even have the truth, 00:09:07.01\00:09:09.38 and still not do anything with it. Right. 00:09:09.41\00:09:11.95 You know? And that's a shame. 00:09:11.98\00:09:13.42 But we're not here to judge people; we're here to love them, 00:09:13.45\00:09:16.58 give them the truth, introduce them to the relationship with 00:09:16.62\00:09:19.75 God, that's a healing force. 00:09:19.79\00:09:21.52 And then let God work in their lives to make changes. 00:09:21.56\00:09:24.06 So we've got some food to talk about today. 00:09:24.09\00:09:26.33 What do we have here? 00:09:26.36\00:09:27.70 Yep. So today's topic we're going to talk a little 00:09:27.73\00:09:29.36 bit about turmeric. Okay. 00:09:29.40\00:09:31.10 And turmeric is a root. 00:09:31.13\00:09:32.67 This is actually one that looks just like turmeric. 00:09:32.70\00:09:35.77 But this is what? This is ginger actually, right? 00:09:35.80\00:09:38.07 That's ginger, but they look the same. 00:09:38.11\00:09:39.44 They look almost the same. 00:09:39.47\00:09:41.21 And so this one looks like it in its natural form. 00:09:41.24\00:09:43.18 And you can buy it this way at the grocery store. 00:09:43.21\00:09:44.88 But there's also supplements, pills. 00:09:44.91\00:09:47.25 It's the same thing, right? Uh huh. 00:09:47.28\00:09:48.88 And you can get it that way. 00:09:48.92\00:09:50.25 This may be a little bit easier to put it down that way. 00:09:50.29\00:09:52.85 But this is a good thing to be used for a spice in foods, 00:09:52.89\00:09:57.06 and of things like that. 00:09:57.09\00:09:58.43 What is so good about it? 00:09:58.46\00:09:59.79 Well, it's interesting about this root. 00:09:59.83\00:10:01.73 In India they use the pigment, the yellow pigment, 00:10:01.76\00:10:05.10 the curcumin, that's the active ingredient that seems 00:10:05.13\00:10:07.50 to help so much. Okay. 00:10:07.54\00:10:08.87 They noticed that people that lived in the country 00:10:08.90\00:10:11.24 of India had less cancer, less inflammatory disease. 00:10:11.27\00:10:15.21 And when they sorted through it they said, 00:10:15.24\00:10:16.95 It must be the curcumin. 00:10:16.98\00:10:18.48 Because they ate a lot of that spice in all their foods. Right. 00:10:18.51\00:10:21.58 And it's in this root. 00:10:21.62\00:10:22.98 And I used to try to put this in my oatmeal every day. 00:10:23.02\00:10:26.22 It was just too labor intensive. Sure. 00:10:26.25\00:10:28.39 So now I've moved to the capsules; what I use. 00:10:28.42\00:10:31.16 It's yellow because it has this pigment in it. 00:10:31.19\00:10:33.93 And there's been so much research on it. 00:10:33.96\00:10:36.46 I'm going to share a little bit of this research, 00:10:36.50\00:10:38.47 the science that's been done to prove that this is something 00:10:38.50\00:10:41.37 that someone might want to add to their treatment regimen. 00:10:41.40\00:10:44.21 Well, there's 5,000 articles that have been done, 00:10:44.24\00:10:47.64 about 50 clinical trials where they compared it to people on 00:10:47.68\00:10:51.31 it to people off of it. 00:10:51.35\00:10:52.68 And the literature is very strong for two things that this 00:10:52.71\00:10:56.35 seems to help: 1. in cancer, both preventive and treatment, 00:10:56.38\00:11:00.02 and 2. in inflammation in the body. Okay. 00:11:00.06\00:11:03.22 So this seems to help, in looking at the studies; 00:11:03.56\00:11:06.13 four different types of ways for cancer. 00:11:06.16\00:11:08.03 It seems to stop DNA from mutating into cancer. Uh huh. 00:11:08.06\00:11:12.60 It works as an anti-oxidant, which decreases free radicals, 00:11:12.63\00:11:17.11 which stimulate cancer. 00:11:17.14\00:11:18.94 It helps it to slow down. 00:11:18.97\00:11:20.68 It's an anti-prolifer to the agents, 00:11:20.74\00:11:22.68 so it doesn't divide as fast. 00:11:22.74\00:11:24.31 And it also seems to stimulate things in our body that has 00:11:24.35\00:11:28.42 the cancer to self-destruct. Okay. 00:11:28.45\00:11:31.02 So it works on different mechanisms, this curcumin. 00:11:31.05\00:11:33.96 Very good at doing this. 00:11:33.99\00:11:36.09 Other things that's been shown to help, studies have shown 00:11:36.12\00:11:38.66 that it helps in lung disease. 00:11:38.69\00:11:40.20 Again, it decreases the immutations. 00:11:40.23\00:11:42.86 One study that I read, up to 33% lower mutations in people 00:11:42.90\00:11:48.24 that take this that had lung cancer. 00:11:48.27\00:11:49.77 Cancers like multiple myeloma, that's a blood cancer. 00:11:49.80\00:11:55.34 One of the studies on pancreatic cancer; that's one of the most 00:11:55.38\00:11:58.91 deadly cancers that we have. 00:11:58.95\00:12:00.88 It's just a really aggressive cancer. 00:12:00.92\00:12:04.82 And they studied different people with advanced 00:12:04.85\00:12:07.46 metastatic pancreatic cancer. 00:12:07.52\00:12:09.66 And out of those people, 2 out of 21 tumors responded to 00:12:09.69\00:12:15.40 curcumin or turmeric. Right. 00:12:15.46\00:12:17.63 Whereas if they wouldn't have had that they would have died. 00:12:17.67\00:12:19.67 So this is something that seems to help a lot. 00:12:19.70\00:12:22.40 In other studies it seems to help people recover 00:12:22.44\00:12:25.11 faster after surgery. 00:12:25.14\00:12:26.51 It helps treat inflammation in people with different types 00:12:26.54\00:12:30.21 of arthritis and joint pains. 00:12:30.25\00:12:32.01 And also it just, in my life it's helped my inflammation. 00:12:32.05\00:12:38.05 You know, I had some bad feet. 00:12:38.09\00:12:39.42 You know, my feet, I had tendonitis in my feet. 00:12:39.45\00:12:42.16 And it seemed to help the tendonitis a great deal. 00:12:42.19\00:12:45.03 Now if you want to increase the amount of it, some people mix 00:12:45.06\00:12:49.26 black pepper with it. 00:12:49.30\00:12:50.73 That has a chemical called paperine, and that increases, 00:12:50.77\00:12:54.44 slows down the metabolism so you can raise the amount 00:12:54.47\00:12:58.07 of the curcumin, which is the active ingredient of turmeric. 00:12:58.11\00:13:02.08 So there's a lot of different things that this root can do, 00:13:02.11\00:13:06.08 this pigment within the root. 00:13:06.11\00:13:07.55 And it's been very solid. 00:13:07.58\00:13:08.95 So the two things that I want people to take home is this 00:13:08.98\00:13:11.25 can really help with inflammation, 00:13:11.29\00:13:12.89 and this can really help in preventing different types 00:13:12.92\00:13:15.79 of cancers, and perhaps treating it at some level. 00:13:15.82\00:13:18.66 Now does it take cancer away all of the time? 00:13:18.69\00:13:21.26 No, but it certainly could be an adjunct to people that are 00:13:21.30\00:13:25.43 getting other types of therapy for cancer. 00:13:25.47\00:13:28.00 Right. Now is there any difference between having the 00:13:28.04\00:13:30.54 root raw and taking the pill supplements? 00:13:30.61\00:13:32.84 Yes, there is. I always think if you can take it in its 00:13:32.87\00:13:35.88 natural form it probably gets absorbed better into your body. 00:13:35.91\00:13:40.25 Okay. But for me it just wasn't practical. 00:13:40.28\00:13:42.48 Not only did I do that, and I got pigment on my fingers 00:13:42.52\00:13:45.22 every day, it took too much time. Sure. 00:13:45.25\00:13:47.26 So I just have gone to... 00:13:47.29\00:13:48.72 You know, some people, you know, have a capsule that they 00:13:48.76\00:13:51.56 break and sprinkle on it? Uh huh. 00:13:51.59\00:13:53.26 Some people take these type of capsule. 00:13:53.29\00:13:54.83 But if you notice, if you touch it long enough, or you cut it, 00:13:54.86\00:13:57.53 your fingers would get the yellow pigment, 00:13:57.57\00:13:59.43 which is the curcumin. 00:13:59.47\00:14:00.80 That seems to be the active ingredient that helps us so 00:14:00.84\00:14:03.54 much, even though studies of also shown that the root itself 00:14:03.57\00:14:06.94 has some health benefits as well. Really? 00:14:06.98\00:14:09.51 Now I think it's so interesting that as we learn more about 00:14:09.54\00:14:12.48 food, and as science develops there's going to be more and 00:14:12.51\00:14:15.22 more studies showing all the different values that food have. 00:14:15.25\00:14:17.95 Now why haven't we seen this before? Right. 00:14:17.99\00:14:19.92 Well, no one's making a billion dollars a year doing studies 00:14:20.42\00:14:23.99 showing the different chemicals that are in that that acts 00:14:24.03\00:14:27.33 similarly to the chemicals that we have in pharmaceuticals. 00:14:27.36\00:14:30.53 Right. But I've noticed that the food that God gives us, 00:14:30.57\00:14:33.70 it helps our entire chemistry. 00:14:33.74\00:14:35.70 Now people that are taking this they have to be careful 00:14:35.74\00:14:38.51 if you have gallstones, because it can increase, and may cause 00:14:38.54\00:14:42.18 the gallstone to, the gallbladder to contract. 00:14:42.21\00:14:44.78 People with kidney stones, they might have to do that because 00:14:44.81\00:14:48.28 you know, it increases the level of a chemical called oxalate. 00:14:48.35\00:14:51.79 And an oxalate can sometimes lead to stones. 00:14:51.85\00:14:54.12 So people with that might have to cut down their 00:14:54.16\00:14:56.39 dose just a little bit. 00:14:56.42\00:14:57.76 But it just shows in the studies most of them have about 00:14:57.79\00:15:00.70 a quarter of a teaspoon a day, you know, 00:15:00.73\00:15:03.87 about 250 milligrams of this. 00:15:03.90\00:15:05.93 And if you look at this right here, this has in it... 00:15:05.97\00:15:09.37 Um I can't, let me see, it tells you how many 00:15:09.40\00:15:11.27 milligrams it has in it. 00:15:11.31\00:15:12.64 But it says this has at least, ah, oh this has at least 2. 00:15:12.67\00:15:16.21 This one has 350 milligrams. 00:15:16.24\00:15:19.48 So each of the doses have a little bit different. 00:15:19.51\00:15:22.65 But at least a quarter of a teaspoon of this to help 00:15:22.68\00:15:25.75 in inflammation, help lower the risk of cancer. 00:15:25.82\00:15:28.72 So this is something that I take every day because I think 00:15:28.76\00:15:31.93 the literature is so strong. 00:15:31.96\00:15:33.29 Yeah. You know I didn't realize it had the ability to 00:15:33.33\00:15:35.66 positively effect so many different diseases. 00:15:35.70\00:15:39.87 Yeah. And it's just those are things that are very valuable. 00:15:39.90\00:15:43.00 And that's just what we know now. 00:15:43.07\00:15:44.61 I'm sure more is going to be discovered as we move on. 00:15:44.64\00:15:46.78 Alright. That sounds like some great advice regarding turmeric. 00:15:46.81\00:15:49.41 There's more to come, and we'll be back in just a moment after 00:15:49.44\00:15:52.01 a short break on the Ultimate Prescription. 00:15:52.05\00:15:53.98
