We're talking about air and water today 00:00:01.01\00:00:02.93 and how important it is God created 00:00:02.94\00:00:05.13 these two elements in our lives early in creation. 00:00:05.14\00:00:09.06 It set the foundation for everything to come, 00:00:09.07\00:00:11.68 air and water. And, Dr. Marcum, 00:00:11.69\00:00:15.03 we have a question here 00:00:15.04\00:00:16.40 from Heartwise Ministries website, 00:00:16.41\00:00:17.56 I think that lends itself to these questions. 00:00:17.57\00:00:20.18 Here we go. I have been diagnosed 00:00:20.19\00:00:22.18 with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. 00:00:22.19\00:00:24.99 I have been on supplemental oxygen for six years. 00:00:25.00\00:00:27.83 I still get very short of breath 00:00:27.84\00:00:29.31 and my heart skips. 00:00:29.32\00:00:30.72 And I had two infections, one requiring hospitalization. 00:00:30.73\00:00:33.76 This is Mel in New York. 00:00:33.77\00:00:35.65 What do you think we should do 00:00:35.66\00:00:37.57 for Mel in the light of what we just learned? 00:00:37.58\00:00:40.16 Right. And you know, 00:00:40.17\00:00:42.37 the basics of medicines are so essential. 00:00:42.38\00:00:45.87 And I see patients and people 00:00:45.88\00:00:47.89 everywhere getting away from the basics. 00:00:47.90\00:00:50.55 So for Mel, Mel, couple things 00:00:50.56\00:00:52.68 I want you to sort of think about today is think about, 00:00:52.69\00:00:55.93 you know, back at creation 00:00:55.94\00:00:57.03 when everything was made perfect. 00:00:57.04\00:00:59.04 Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for people 00:00:59.05\00:01:01.54 that don't know what that is. 00:01:01.55\00:01:03.45 That's sort of a blanket term to say 00:01:03.46\00:01:05.66 that something has damaged the lungs. 00:01:05.67\00:01:08.20 And, unfortunately, today, 00:01:08.21\00:01:09.54 I see cigarettes as a number one 00:01:09.55\00:01:11.73 cause of damage to the lungs. 00:01:11.74\00:01:13.69 And cigarettes, of course, damage our breathing 00:01:13.70\00:01:16.50 because that damages the oxygen that we get in us. 00:01:16.51\00:01:19.24 So something as simple as making sure 00:01:19.25\00:01:21.18 Mel doesn't smoke cigarettes and encouraging him. 00:01:21.19\00:01:24.12 And no matter when we make a health recommendation, 00:01:24.13\00:01:26.38 Charles, we want to wrap truth in love. 00:01:26.39\00:01:29.74 So we want to wrap this truth about oxygen 00:01:29.75\00:01:32.50 that God gave us back at creation 00:01:32.51\00:01:34.11 as well as water in love. 00:01:34.12\00:01:35.83 So we wanted to have Mel work on, 00:01:35.84\00:01:38.06 trying to quit smoking and breathe better. 00:01:38.07\00:01:40.00 Now what's another example 00:01:40.01\00:01:41.49 of how a person can breathe better? 00:01:41.50\00:01:42.90 Well, exercise helps the body breathe better. 00:01:42.91\00:01:45.14 Automatically. So if you can get on 00:01:45.15\00:01:46.40 any type of exercise program 00:01:46.41\00:01:48.58 that will help your oxygen. 00:01:48.59\00:01:50.22 And it's important 'cause oxygen 00:01:50.23\00:01:51.45 just like water, is crucial. 00:01:51.46\00:01:53.53 You know, you can live for a while without water, 00:01:53.54\00:01:55.63 but you hold your breath, 00:01:55.64\00:01:56.81 you're gonna pass out pretty soon, Charles. 00:01:56.82\00:01:58.40 Absolutely. Now I want to give Mel 00:01:58.41\00:02:00.48 and everyone out there in the audience, 00:02:00.49\00:02:01.99 something they can do to improve their breathing, 00:02:02.00\00:02:04.31 and everyone can do this at home, 00:02:04.32\00:02:05.93 you know, and this improves--no bills, 00:02:05.94\00:02:07.90 no money involved here. Can I do it too? 00:02:07.91\00:02:11.08 Yes, you can do it. Okay, I'm ready. 00:02:11.09\00:02:12.47 This will help you feel better and do well. 00:02:12.48\00:02:14.56 And we should do this at least three times a day. 00:02:14.57\00:02:17.14 All right. Okay. 00:02:17.15\00:02:18.14 In addition to exercise if you can. 00:02:18.15\00:02:20.50 I want everyone to take in a deep breath 00:02:20.51\00:02:23.01 through their nose. All you can. 00:02:23.02\00:02:26.13 Okay, now let's hold it for a few seconds, 00:02:26.14\00:02:28.12 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, and blow out slowly. 00:02:28.13\00:02:34.88 Okay. Now that's number one. 00:02:36.79\00:02:39.23 I want-- no, we're not gonna do it, 00:02:39.24\00:02:40.70 but I want our audience to do that 10 times, 00:02:40.71\00:02:44.16 three times a day. Now what that does 00:02:44.17\00:02:47.07 when you get adequate oxygen through your body, 00:02:47.08\00:02:49.25 the tissues love it. 00:02:49.26\00:02:50.67 It's like I'm giving you oxygen 00:02:50.68\00:02:52.42 that tissues need to help heal and regenerate. 00:02:52.43\00:02:54.94 It's giving your brain a boost. 00:02:54.95\00:02:57.02 Another thing it does is it turns down 00:02:57.03\00:02:59.29 the stress chemicals in the body. 00:02:59.30\00:03:00.72 And when we are doing that, the opposite happens. 00:03:00.73\00:03:02.36 Exactly. Our brain is not boosted. 00:03:02.37\00:03:04.43 Our cells are not getting the oxygen they need. 00:03:04.44\00:03:07.82 We are actually starving our bodies of that essential. 00:03:07.83\00:03:11.04 Exactly, and that turns on this stress cascade, 00:03:11.05\00:03:13.94 which causes us to need modern medicine. 00:03:13.95\00:03:16.12 So by breathing deeply, 00:03:16.13\00:03:18.07 okay, we get oxygen throughout our body 00:03:18.08\00:03:20.18 just like we had the water. 00:03:20.19\00:03:21.80 We get oxygen to every cell. 00:03:21.81\00:03:23.46 The cell starts getting happy. 00:03:23.47\00:03:24.81 We give our body a better chance of fixing itself. 00:03:24.82\00:03:27.75 I want happy cells. 00:03:27.76\00:03:28.89 Yeah, and we want the body to fix itself. 00:03:28.90\00:03:31.02 But, you know, in the world we live in, 00:03:31.03\00:03:32.99 guess what the evil one's done? 00:03:33.00\00:03:34.56 He's brought cigarettes in. 00:03:34.57\00:03:36.22 You know, we were never designed to breathe car fumes. 00:03:36.23\00:03:38.66 He's brought pollution in. 00:03:38.67\00:03:40.09 Yes. And the houses that we live in, 00:03:40.10\00:03:41.70 sometimes we don't get ventilated. 00:03:41.71\00:03:43.51 Now, Charles, you now a lot about ventilation. 00:03:43.52\00:03:45.95 Yes. You know, you taught me about 00:03:45.96\00:03:47.15 what you do at your house to help more air come in. 00:03:47.16\00:03:49.54 Why don't you share that with Mel? 00:03:49.55\00:03:50.70 Well, absolutely. My wife and I both 00:03:50.71\00:03:52.43 wanted to make sure 00:03:52.44\00:03:53.43 that the air we breathe-- we're fortunate, 00:03:53.44\00:03:54.79 we live in the country and that's kinda nice. 00:03:54.80\00:03:56.98 Well, that was one thing 00:03:56.99\00:03:58.39 where we chose to live had to do with 00:03:58.40\00:04:01.26 what we needed for our bodies 00:04:01.27\00:04:02.54 and we chose to live in the country 00:04:02.55\00:04:03.57 where the air is relatively cleaner. 00:04:03.58\00:04:05.48 Also, we have done many things to the house itself. 00:04:05.49\00:04:09.21 We have changed to 00:04:09.22\00:04:10.21 what's called a low VOC paint in the house, 00:04:10.22\00:04:12.78 which does not off gas, poisons. 00:04:12.79\00:04:15.14 All of the detergents, 00:04:15.15\00:04:18.26 that soaps that we use are scent free and chemical free 00:04:18.27\00:04:23.24 that also helps the air that we breathe 00:04:23.25\00:04:25.64 and when we wear our clothes, 00:04:25.65\00:04:26.72 you know, the fumes and what not. 00:04:26.73\00:04:28.89 We put in bamboo floors as opposed to carpeting 00:04:28.90\00:04:34.11 that can be a lot of-- 00:04:34.12\00:04:35.11 And the windows. And the windows, 00:04:35.12\00:04:36.24 absolutely, keep open them at night. 00:04:36.25\00:04:37.88 Yeah. Lot of people never-- 00:04:37.89\00:04:39.34 If it's 10 degrees outside, our windows are open at night. 00:04:39.35\00:04:41.74 A lot of people don't crack open their windows. 00:04:41.75\00:04:44.72 No. Fresh air, oh, my goodness. 00:04:44.73\00:04:46.32 And occasionally, you hear about people 00:04:46.33\00:04:48.10 that die from carbon monoxide poisoning. 00:04:48.11\00:04:50.93 People don't get good ventilation. 00:04:50.94\00:04:52.71 They get these moles and mites 00:04:52.72\00:04:54.58 that are in their house. 00:04:54.59\00:04:56.26 Not getting enough oxygen causes major problems. 00:04:56.27\00:04:59.48 So getting back to Mel, getting back to Mel. 00:04:59.49\00:05:01.95 Yeah. The deep breathing exercises, 00:05:01.96\00:05:03.89 exercise or try these. 00:05:03.90\00:05:05.10 And I want everyone to do those. 00:05:05.11\00:05:06.93 Another thing that will help 00:05:06.94\00:05:07.95 is that will lower your heart rate 00:05:07.96\00:05:09.93 and lower your adrenaline levels. 00:05:09.94\00:05:11.65 So a treatment for this chronic stress 00:05:11.66\00:05:13.54 we've been taking about in the world. 00:05:13.55\00:05:14.90 Have you ever got mad at someone, Charles? 00:05:14.91\00:05:16.55 Never. Well, I'm not gonna make you mad at me. 00:05:16.56\00:05:18.84 But, you know, there's this saying 00:05:18.85\00:05:20.57 that whenever you get mad at someone, 00:05:20.58\00:05:22.44 what should you do? 00:05:22.45\00:05:23.79 You should take some deep breaths. 00:05:23.80\00:05:24.79 A deep breath. Yes. 00:05:24.80\00:05:25.96 Well, what that does chemically is it turns on 00:05:25.97\00:05:28.36 the part of your nervous system called the parasympathetic, 00:05:28.37\00:05:31.34 which turns off all the stress chemicals. 00:05:31.35\00:05:33.74 So taking deep breaths helps turn down this chronic stress 00:05:33.75\00:05:38.17 that we're getting. That's one of the reasons, 00:05:38.18\00:05:39.85 exercise, deep breathing helps everyone. 00:05:39.86\00:05:42.07 So when Mel just does those things, 00:05:42.08\00:05:43.93 he's turned down these chronic stressors. 00:05:43.94\00:05:46.10 He's helped his oxygen 00:05:46.11\00:05:47.15 that he's already taking get around better. 00:05:47.16\00:05:48.93 He's lowered the chance of getting infections 00:05:48.94\00:05:50.96 that bad lungs get. 00:05:50.97\00:05:52.14 And he's making his medicines 00:05:52.15\00:05:53.46 that he's already taking work more effectively, 00:05:53.47\00:05:55.55 all by breathing. 00:05:55.56\00:05:56.69 And how many of us think about breathing 00:05:56.70\00:05:59.25 taking deep breaths as vital? 00:05:59.26\00:06:01.07 Or in our home having good oxygen. 00:06:01.08\00:06:02.99 And yet, the two elements we can't do without, 00:06:03.00\00:06:05.26 you know, we can miss a pill for a day. 00:06:05.27\00:06:07.08 You know, we can miss a bath for a day. 00:06:07.09\00:06:09.01 But when we miss water and oxygen, 00:06:09.02\00:06:11.50 bad things start to happen. 00:06:11.51\00:06:12.84 So oxygen is another thing that God gave us, 00:06:12.85\00:06:16.32 biblical technology that God gave us 00:06:16.33\00:06:18.20 back at creation and we want to breathe well. 00:06:18.21\00:06:21.17 How many people spend time everyday thinking about 00:06:21.18\00:06:23.86 how they can breathe well? 00:06:23.87\00:06:25.08 They spend time thinking about, 00:06:25.09\00:06:26.41 you know, how they can take a pill? 00:06:26.42\00:06:27.68 Yeah. But how many people think, 00:06:27.69\00:06:29.63 I need to breathe well. I need to drink enough water. 00:06:29.64\00:06:32.72 My! Okay, let's talk about water. 00:06:32.73\00:06:34.53 Let's go back to water here. 00:06:34.54\00:06:36.06 Uh, when you say enough water, 00:06:36.07\00:06:38.14 and I understand that the answer to your question is, 00:06:38.15\00:06:41.25 you know, whether we should drink bottled water 00:06:41.26\00:06:42.98 or spring water or alkalized water? 00:06:42.99\00:06:45.96 The answer is yes. 00:06:45.97\00:06:47.43 Yeah, I could talk-- Just drink water. 00:06:47.44\00:06:48.81 I can talk all day about that, Charles. 00:06:48.82\00:06:50.44 You know, what type of water, 00:06:50.45\00:06:51.51 but some people get so stressed out 00:06:51.52\00:06:53.32 but the water available in Africa. 00:06:53.33\00:06:56.11 Do you know what the word for water is? 00:06:56.12\00:06:57.68 Now you know this, don't you? 00:06:57.69\00:06:58.68 I know this. Well, tell us. Share that with us. 00:06:58.69\00:07:00.50 The name for water in Africa is life, L-I-F-E, 00:07:00.51\00:07:04.77 and it makes the difference between 00:07:04.78\00:07:07.54 being alive and being dead. 00:07:07.55\00:07:09.68 Just the water that's what it's necessary, 00:07:09.69\00:07:12.49 that's how necessary it is. 00:07:12.50\00:07:13.66 And we think, well, we're not in Africa, 00:07:13.67\00:07:15.49 but it still applies. Yes, it does. 00:07:15.50\00:07:17.47 And I want everyone to drink enough water. 00:07:17.48\00:07:20.00 Well, we talked about everyone's urine. 00:07:20.01\00:07:22.03 But, a simple thing 00:07:22.04\00:07:23.15 that I want to demonstrate right now is, 00:07:23.16\00:07:25.36 you know, how we can judge about 00:07:25.37\00:07:26.89 how much water we need. 00:07:26.90\00:07:27.89 Let's do it. Let's do it. 00:07:27.90\00:07:28.92 Well, if you will take your weight, 00:07:28.93\00:07:31.06 okay, and divide it in two, okay? 00:07:31.07\00:07:33.84 That's about how many ounces you need a day. 00:07:33.85\00:07:36.29 For instance, if you weigh 160 pounds, 00:07:36.30\00:07:39.89 you need about 80 ounces of water a day. 00:07:39.90\00:07:42.95 Now this when it's full, this has about 20 ounces. 00:07:42.96\00:07:46.18 So if I pour this into this glass, 00:07:46.19\00:07:48.60 and we're gonna find out that mom was right 00:07:48.61\00:07:50.85 when she says how much water we should drink everyday. 00:07:50.86\00:07:53.69 That pretty much fills up that glass, doesn't it? 00:07:53.70\00:07:55.69 It does, yes, it does. 00:07:55.70\00:07:56.69 So that is about 20 ounces of water in one glass. 00:07:56.70\00:08:00.16 Well, let's say you weigh 160 pounds, 00:08:00.17\00:08:02.67 so how much--let's do your math, 160 pounds-- 00:08:02.68\00:08:05.12 Divided by 2. Divided by 2. 00:08:05.13\00:08:06.57 Eighty. Eighty ounces. 00:08:06.58\00:08:07.94 Eighty ounces. So in a person 00:08:07.95\00:08:09.24 that doesn't have a lot of medical problems, 00:08:09.25\00:08:11.63 you need about-- Four of these. Four 20s. 00:08:11.64\00:08:15.46 That's eighty. At least that. Okay, all right. 00:08:15.47\00:08:18.19 Now you do get some water in the vegetables 00:08:18.20\00:08:21.54 that you eat, you do get water there. 00:08:21.55\00:08:23.60 But the more active you are? Guess what? 00:08:23.61\00:08:26.24 Your metabolism speeds up, 00:08:26.25\00:08:28.07 so this is just the basal amount you need, yeah. 00:08:28.08\00:08:30.53 In the hospital, when I'm setting someone's IV, 00:08:30.54\00:08:32.90 I say, well, the--if they're not drinking anything, 00:08:32.91\00:08:35.16 you know, if they're sick in surgery, 00:08:35.17\00:08:36.76 I set it about 125 ccs an hour. 00:08:36.77\00:08:39.78 That's about 3 liters a day. 00:08:39.79\00:08:41.74 Because that's about how much water they need. 00:08:41.75\00:08:43.77 Now if they have an infection 00:08:43.78\00:08:45.05 or they're sick or their metabolisms ramped up, 00:08:45.06\00:08:47.61 they need more water. 00:08:47.62\00:08:48.86 Have you ever heard that when you get sick, 00:08:48.87\00:08:50.69 what's one of the treatments mom always tells you to do? 00:08:50.70\00:08:53.38 Stay hydrated, drink enough water. 00:08:53.39\00:08:55.62 'Cause the tendency is when you're sick, 00:08:55.63\00:08:57.65 you don't drink water. 00:08:57.66\00:08:58.84 And also sicknesses can use up the water 00:08:58.85\00:09:00.71 that's in your body, yeah. 00:09:00.72\00:09:01.95 The temperature, the inflammation, 00:09:01.96\00:09:03.68 and what not are using up these resources 00:09:03.69\00:09:05.09 that you already have. 00:09:05.10\00:09:06.09 Yeah, well, from a practical standpoint 00:09:06.10\00:09:07.97 what I try to do with water is for me personally. 00:09:07.98\00:09:10.98 I get up. When I brush my teeth, 00:09:10.99\00:09:12.47 I try to at least put down one or two glasses a day. 00:09:12.48\00:09:15.24 And throughout the day, I'm constantly drinking water. 00:09:15.25\00:09:17.65 Now I choose not to drink water at night, okay. 00:09:17.66\00:09:20.21 'Cause when I drink water at night, 00:09:20.22\00:09:21.97 it messes up what we talked about before. 00:09:21.98\00:09:24.17 restlessness, 'cause I've to get up 00:09:24.18\00:09:25.90 and go to bathroom that messes up rest, yes. 00:09:25.91\00:09:28.05 So some people might want to cut their hydration off 00:09:28.06\00:09:30.36 at a certain time of the day. 00:09:30.37\00:09:32.17 But remember these are vital things that we do, 00:09:32.18\00:09:35.91 drinking water, air. 00:09:35.92\00:09:37.91 These are the same as taking prescriptions. 00:09:37.92\00:09:39.79 These are the template 00:09:39.80\00:09:40.87 that God gave us to keep care of this body 00:09:40.88\00:09:43.51 and guess what's happening now. 00:09:43.52\00:09:44.94 The evil one and society has destroyed 00:09:44.95\00:09:47.18 the way we look at water, the way we drink water. 00:09:47.19\00:09:49.96 Water is boring. 00:09:49.97\00:09:50.96 Water, it doesn't have any taste. 00:09:50.97\00:09:52.30 No. Who wants water? 00:09:52.31\00:09:53.30 And I'll tell you, also the air we breathe, yeah. 00:09:53.31\00:09:55.97 You know, it's not as good as it should be. 00:09:55.98\00:09:57.75 And yet, in Africa, they call water of life. 00:09:57.76\00:10:01.22 How many of you think that water is life? 00:10:01.23\00:10:03.44 And lack of water is lack of life. 00:10:03.45\00:10:05.77 Lack of oxygen is lack of life. 00:10:05.78\00:10:08.31 So we run to the doctor, okay? 00:10:08.32\00:10:10.42 And we don't get at the cause all the time. 00:10:10.43\00:10:12.78 But the causes of many diseases 00:10:12.79\00:10:14.88 might be we're just not drinking enough water. 00:10:14.89\00:10:17.14 We're not breathing well. 00:10:17.15\00:10:18.34 This turns on this chronic chemical stress cascade, 00:10:18.35\00:10:21.60 which year in, year out can sometimes cause disease. 00:10:21.61\00:10:24.43 And it could be traced back 00:10:24.44\00:10:25.87 to at least part of it due to not drinking water 00:10:25.88\00:10:28.31 and not giving enough oxygen. 00:10:28.32\00:10:30.05 All right, let's get practical here 00:10:30.06\00:10:31.68 in the last few moments of this part of our program. 00:10:31.69\00:10:35.02 Air is available to us. 00:10:35.03\00:10:36.33 We can just go outside and breathe 00:10:36.34\00:10:37.85 when we take our break 00:10:37.86\00:10:39.10 and during our work our lunch hour. 00:10:39.11\00:10:41.35 Just go outside if it's relatively clean 00:10:41.36\00:10:43.18 and maybe it will be cleaner inside I'm not sure. 00:10:43.19\00:10:45.19 But go outside and just breathe, breathe, 00:10:45.20\00:10:47.09 and take that exercise. 00:10:47.10\00:10:48.84 Breathe it in and hold it for 10 seconds, 00:10:48.85\00:10:50.90 let it out, and do that over and over again. 00:10:50.91\00:10:53.01 That is an exercise we can do, that sure is. 00:10:53.02\00:10:54.87 Also, instead of having that coffee cup or that tea cup, 00:10:54.88\00:10:58.67 instead of having that soda there, 00:10:58.68\00:11:01.47 let's chose some low calorie, 00:11:01.48\00:11:05.46 no calorie, no calorie wonder here. 00:11:05.47\00:11:08.20 Water is not boring. 00:11:08.21\00:11:09.26 I understand that sitting 00:11:09.27\00:11:10.26 in the hospital for days and days, 00:11:10.27\00:11:11.52 and having surgery, that's pretty boring. 00:11:11.53\00:11:13.41 I understand that being sick 00:11:13.42\00:11:14.96 and going to the emergency room can be boring. 00:11:14.97\00:11:17.93 We can bypass all of that by simply abiding 00:11:17.94\00:11:21.15 by these rules that God put in place in creation, 00:11:21.16\00:11:24.57 the very, the very early in creation, 00:11:24.58\00:11:26.43 the second day of creation of the air and the water 00:11:26.44\00:11:29.09 to bring that kind of healing to our body, 00:11:29.10\00:11:30.88 so very important. 00:11:30.89\00:11:31.99 Well, these are extremely important words of information 00:11:32.00\00:11:36.13 that you've given us, Dr. Marcum. 00:11:36.14\00:11:37.45 We really appreciate that. 00:11:37.46\00:11:39.07 We'll take a short break now and when we come back, 00:11:39.08\00:11:41.70 Dr. Marcum, is gonna do something 00:11:41.71\00:11:43.36 that's just as vital as air and water. 00:11:43.37\00:11:46.64 He's gonna take us 00:11:46.65\00:11:48.15 into a conversation with God in prayer. 00:11:48.16\00:11:51.41 So we invite you to stay tuned for that. 00:11:51.42\00:11:53.01 I hope you've learned something very valuable today 00:11:59.49\00:12:02.73 that God's plan given at creation 00:12:02.74\00:12:04.83 has some great ways to change our chemistry. 00:12:04.84\00:12:07.44 Maybe obviating the need to go to a doctor, 00:12:07.45\00:12:10.52 one of those is water.
