with this person.

me the desire to be

more than just a churchgoer.

challenges you face there?

Yes, the region that
we're currently focused on

right now is
called the Black Belt,

and it's about 200
counties here in the USA,

it spans from Texas
all the way up to Virginia.

And originally it
was called the Black Belt

because the soil here
is very rich and dark.

And it's great for
farming and things like that.

But it also became
known as the Black Belt,

because a lot of the
profit for the slave trade

when slaves were
brought here to the U S the work

put in this area
agriculturally was a big boost.

And so, this is a
kind of a home based area

for most African-Americans
is across this belt.

And so they call
it the Black Belt

first for the soil,

but also for the
people that are here.

And in terms of challenges,

I think what comes to mind

is the greatest joy of this area

is also part of the challenge,

because you have people here

who are so loving,
so caring, so trusting.

up, knock on a stranger's door,

they're just going to say,

And so they're so
loving and trusting,

but the downside
to that is people

who come in that

may not have
their best interests

manipulate the situation.

And so you'll find in
this area, unfortunately,

there are some professionals,

some doctors who
don't care about the people.

And so we've had
people come into our clinic

and they're talking
to our medical doctor,

and they're saying,
yes, I just had a surgery
00:05:51.41\00:05:53.68
about a month ago and
our doctor would ask them,
00:05:53.72\00:05:56.38
"Okay, what type of surgery?"
00:05:56.42\00:05:58.85
And the person wouldn't know.
00:05:58.89\00:06:00.52
So we would have to
go into their records
00:06:00.56\00:06:02.09
to find out the
research of the surgery
00:06:02.12\00:06:03.99
that was given to
them, or sometimes doctors
00:06:04.03\00:06:06.59
who had prescribed medications
that weren't even necessary.

We had one individual that
we talked to just last week,
00:06:10.47\00:06:13.50
where she was talking about
00:06:13.54\00:06:14.87
how she was having
some type of skin breakout,
00:06:14.90\00:06:17.37
a rash on her hand.
00:06:17.41\00:06:18.91
And so she went to the
doctor and the doctor saw it
00:06:18.94\00:06:20.91
and just immediately
wrote a prescription,
00:06:20.94\00:06:23.04
handed it off to her.
00:06:23.08\00:06:24.41
It was a very strong steroid
00:06:24.45\00:06:25.78
that the side effects
were not the best for her.

Well, she came into our clinic.
00:06:29.32\00:06:30.99
And we put her on
a natural lifestyle.
00:06:31.02\00:06:35.46
So focusing on
nutrition, lifestyle change,
00:06:35.49\00:06:38.89
exercise, sunlight,
and all of those things.

And within a month,
she was off her medication.

The rash had gone away,

she was doing a lot better,

but because the person she dealt

with was so focused
on pushing the medication

and pushing these other things,

she was actually not
getting a better way of life.

And so I think
that's one of the challenges

here is helping to
break people out of that mold

and getting them to
have a better understanding

of what's going on around.

believe it when I read this.

There's a quote from

that doesn't start until 10:30,

but the need was
so great that people,

they just had to come to
be able to receive the food.

And when you have a
need that's that great,

you can't just
let COVID stop you.

And so we try to take

precautions wearing masks,

and things like that.
