And that supports this mission. 00:02:35.75\00:02:38.62 And so, if you know and like I always like to say 00:02:38.65\00:02:43.06 when it comes to helping the homeless, you know, 00:02:43.09\00:02:45.76 a lot of people don't know where to start or what to do. 00:02:45.79\00:02:48.66 You know, a lot of people don't feel comfortable 00:02:48.70\00:02:50.43 giving money directly to those experiencing homelessness, 00:02:50.47\00:02:52.90 but supporting organizations like us 00:02:52.93\00:02:55.34 that provide those direct services to them 00:02:55.37\00:02:57.74 is one great way to support those people 00:02:57.77\00:03:00.78 that are unsheltered right now. 00:03:00.81\00:03:03.28 Yes, yes. 00:03:03.31\00:03:04.88 Now I know, the last time you were, well, I say here, 00:03:04.91\00:03:09.02 but the last time you were on Skype, 00:03:09.05\00:03:11.05 my mother interviewed you and you were telling her 00:03:11.09\00:03:15.62 what was going on the ministry and all of that. 00:03:15.66\00:03:18.03 What are some of the changes that have taken place 00:03:18.06\00:03:21.53 within the ministry since then? 00:03:21.56\00:03:24.50 Yeah, you know what? 00:03:24.53\00:03:25.87 There has been a lot, Jason, it's crazy, 00:03:25.90\00:03:29.47 it's been like night and day 00:03:29.50\00:03:30.84 and we can only give God the credit for that. 00:03:30.87\00:03:33.44 You know when Yvonne interviewed us, you know, 00:03:33.48\00:03:39.01 we had just gotten some initial funding 00:03:39.05\00:03:41.75 from the city of Orlando to operate 00:03:41.78\00:03:43.99 during the Coronavirus pandemic. 00:03:44.02\00:03:46.25 You know, a lot of the organizations 00:03:46.29\00:03:48.42 because they operate inside, 00:03:48.46\00:03:51.76 it wasn't safe for them to operate 00:03:51.79\00:03:53.60 and because many of those organizations 00:03:53.63\00:03:55.70 let's say provide food, 00:03:55.73\00:03:57.27 it wasn't safe for them to gather all of those people 00:03:57.30\00:04:00.07 in one place. 00:04:00.10\00:04:01.44 So us being outside doing things by appointment, 00:04:01.47\00:04:05.47 we were one of the only organizations 00:04:05.51\00:04:07.11 able to operate during the pandemic 00:04:07.14\00:04:09.91 when it first started because you could imagine 00:04:09.94\00:04:12.05 for someone experiencing homelessness 00:04:12.08\00:04:13.75 and everything shutting down, the businesses, 00:04:13.78\00:04:15.72 not being able to get food where they usually get food. 00:04:15.75\00:04:19.05 Not being able to go into different places 00:04:19.09\00:04:21.76 to get resources like a shower or even use the bathroom. 00:04:21.79\00:04:25.13 Yeah. 00:04:25.16\00:04:26.49 It really put them in a tough situations 00:04:26.53\00:04:28.06 and so the city was like, "Let's partner with SALT." 00:04:28.10\00:04:30.33 And we partnered together. 00:04:30.37\00:04:32.37 And they gave us initial funding 00:04:32.40\00:04:33.94 to operate three days a week 00:04:33.97\00:04:35.57 during the pandemic. 00:04:35.60\00:04:37.71 And so, since then, you know, 00:04:37.74\00:04:40.71 we've been operating three days a week. 00:04:40.74\00:04:43.11 We just increased to four days a week, 00:04:43.14\00:04:45.68 and the city of Orlando approved a large grant for us, 00:04:45.71\00:04:50.95 $250,000 to cover us from October to September 00:04:50.99\00:04:55.59 of next year which is huge. 00:04:55.62\00:04:57.43 I mean, really, it's God's way of increasing our capacity 00:04:57.46\00:05:01.33 to serve even more people and do even more, 00:05:01.36\00:05:04.33 so that's exciting. 00:05:04.37\00:05:06.53 That is huge, so you got approved 00:05:06.57\00:05:09.40 for the grant for $250,000. 00:05:09.44\00:05:12.14 You're going to be able to accomplish so much 00:05:12.17\00:05:13.84 with that because all of that stuff cost money, right? 00:05:13.88\00:05:19.15 Getting stuff like a shower trailer. 00:05:19.18\00:05:21.58 What are some of the other things 00:05:21.62\00:05:23.25 that you are looking to do 00:05:23.28\00:05:25.99 that you need to garner support for? 00:05:26.02\00:05:30.09 Yeah. 00:05:30.13\00:05:31.46 And, you know, you're right, when it comes to, 00:05:31.49\00:05:34.40 I was just looking at like last year, 00:05:34.43\00:05:37.07 the beginning of last year we were operating once a month 00:05:37.10\00:05:39.43 maybe impacting 60 to 80 people a month through our operation, 00:05:39.47\00:05:45.24 but now operating four days a week, I mean, 00:05:45.27\00:05:47.68 our impact is almost quintupled from that time last year. 00:05:47.71\00:05:52.88 So definitely the extra funds 00:05:52.91\00:05:54.98 are helping us to make a bigger impact. 00:05:55.02\00:05:57.82 We are hiring, we just hired actually 00:05:57.85\00:06:00.22 a licensed clinical social worker 00:06:00.26\00:06:02.19 who is going help to do case management 00:06:02.22\00:06:04.93 for some of those experiencing homelessness they have, 00:06:04.96\00:06:07.50 you know, mental health issues. 00:06:07.53\00:06:10.20 We are hiring another master's level social worker 00:06:10.23\00:06:13.00 as well to help with case management, 00:06:13.03\00:06:14.67 and we are going to be taking four bachelor level interns 00:06:14.70\00:06:20.61 from the local universities to be able to help 00:06:20.64\00:06:23.55 with case management as well. 00:06:23.58\00:06:24.91 So we can really kind of connect them to the resources. 00:06:24.95\00:06:28.18 You know, once they get those basic needs 00:06:28.22\00:06:29.98 from us connecting them to other organizations 00:06:30.02\00:06:32.69 that can help with those other needs 00:06:32.72\00:06:34.22 that they might have eventually to end homelessness. 00:06:34.26\00:06:37.56 You know, because here in Orlando 00:06:37.59\00:06:39.43 there is a coordinated community effort, 00:06:39.46\00:06:41.66 you know like we might do 00:06:41.70\00:06:43.06 one aspect of serving the homeless 00:06:43.10\00:06:45.13 but then there might be another organization 00:06:45.17\00:06:46.57 does another aspect, 00:06:46.60\00:06:47.94 another organization that does another, 00:06:47.97\00:06:49.57 and we all kind of coordinate our efforts 00:06:49.60\00:06:51.47 to really impact that individual. 00:06:51.51\00:06:56.04 So that's one thing and the other thing too 00:06:56.08\00:06:58.81 is we actually just made a down payment 00:06:58.85\00:07:00.85 on a laundry trailer. 00:07:00.88\00:07:02.42 It's going to have six washers and six dryers to help meet 00:07:02.45\00:07:05.49 that laundry needs that we, that the homeless have. 00:07:05.52\00:07:08.26 Wow. 00:07:08.29\00:07:09.62 That's huge, so a laundry trailer, 00:07:09.66\00:07:12.53 that is huge. 00:07:12.56\00:07:15.43 So you are establishing partnerships, 00:07:15.46\00:07:17.53 you are building partnerships. 00:07:17.57\00:07:19.40 Have any companies helped support 00:07:19.43\00:07:22.84 what you have going on with SALT? 00:07:22.87\00:07:26.47 Yeah. 00:07:26.51\00:07:27.84 So we did have, you know, the city of Orlando, of course, 00:07:27.88\00:07:33.45 was a big entity that's supporting us, 00:07:33.48\00:07:37.35 then we have Orlando Utility Commission 00:07:37.39\00:07:40.76 who donated solar panels to us. 00:07:40.79\00:07:42.26 I mentioned that in Yvonne's interview 00:07:42.29\00:07:44.16 that's been huge to help us cut down 00:07:44.19\00:07:46.33 on that energy cost and that sort of thing. 00:07:46.36\00:07:51.13 We did also have the Hilton support us. 00:07:51.17\00:07:54.30 During the pandemic they helped house 00:07:54.34\00:07:57.27 some of our workers that were working 00:07:57.31\00:07:59.71 and they didn't want to go directly home for the risk of, 00:07:59.74\00:08:04.71 you know, if they did have 00:08:04.75\00:08:06.11 something passing on to their family, 00:08:06.15\00:08:07.62 they are able to go to a hotel room shower 00:08:07.65\00:08:09.82 and get changed and then go home. 00:08:09.85\00:08:12.62 But, yeah, we've had, I mean, many different organizations 00:08:12.65\00:08:17.13 and businesses really contribute 00:08:17.16\00:08:19.29 to this mission in different ways, 00:08:19.33\00:08:22.23 you know, providing food. 00:08:22.26\00:08:23.60 There's organization's named Food not Bombs 00:08:23.63\00:08:26.37 that does vegan food 00:08:26.40\00:08:27.74 for those experiencing homelessness. 00:08:27.77\00:08:30.71 You know, another organization, the Islamic Society of Orlando 00:08:30.74\00:08:35.71 is helping to provide food as well. 00:08:35.74\00:08:38.45 The Christian Service Center which is an organization 00:08:38.48\00:08:42.42 that we are kind of based right now. 00:08:42.45\00:08:44.39 They are also providing lunch every, you know, 00:08:44.42\00:08:47.09 around 12 every day at that site to help support 00:08:47.12\00:08:51.63 what's happening there. 00:08:51.66\00:08:52.99 So it's been exciting to seek 00:08:53.03\00:08:55.00 kind of all this different entities 00:08:55.03\00:08:57.23 from all this different backgrounds 00:08:57.27\00:08:58.83 and organizations come together for the same purpose, you know, 00:08:58.87\00:09:03.10 to be able to meet those needs, to fulfill, you know, 00:09:03.14\00:09:05.84 Matthew 25, right? 00:09:05.87\00:09:07.41 "'I was hungry and you gave me food, 00:09:07.44\00:09:08.84 thirsty and you gave a drink, naked and you gave me clothes. 00:09:08.88\00:09:11.31 I needed a shelter and you took me in.'' 00:09:11.35\00:09:13.52 I mean that's... 00:09:13.55\00:09:14.88 Yeah, I believe it's referring to those experiencing 00:09:14.92\00:09:16.75 homelessness in those verses, you know, 00:09:16.79\00:09:19.15 definitely the help is needed. 00:09:19.19\00:09:21.22 Yes, yes. 00:09:21.26\00:09:23.16 So, man, so you have all these partnerships coming about 00:09:23.19\00:09:26.83 and it creates extra witnessing opportunities as well, right? 00:09:26.86\00:09:31.00 Talk to us little bit about being able to witness. 00:09:31.03\00:09:34.50 I mean, you already doing the practical Christianity, 00:09:34.54\00:09:38.67 you know, Christ method alone. 00:09:38.71\00:09:40.48 But talk to us about some of the witnessing opportunities 00:09:40.51\00:09:43.78 that you have had? 00:09:43.81\00:09:45.45 Yeah. 00:09:45.48\00:09:46.95 I know we're going to be going through the pictures later, 00:09:46.98\00:09:50.59 but that, that was kind of like a, 00:09:50.62\00:09:54.19 really like a prime example 00:09:54.22\00:09:55.69 of what we're trying to accomplish. 00:09:55.72\00:09:57.53 You know, being able to meet those needs and share Christ 00:09:57.56\00:10:01.63 you know, while we're meeting those needs is a huge part of, 00:10:01.66\00:10:05.10 you know, what we're trying to do. 00:10:05.13\00:10:06.47 I know that we just have a partnership 00:10:06.50\00:10:09.34 with a local Adventist Church, 00:10:09.37\00:10:10.71 Lighthouse Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:10:10.74\00:10:13.01 and they actually have a box truck 00:10:13.04\00:10:16.91 that they retrofitted to be a mobile stage. 00:10:16.95\00:10:19.88 And so, they'll actually bring church out there 00:10:19.91\00:10:22.45 to those experiencing homelessness, 00:10:22.48\00:10:24.39 to be able to meet some of those steps, 00:10:24.42\00:10:27.36 that spiritual need that fellowship need 00:10:27.39\00:10:29.92 that they have because a lot of them 00:10:29.96\00:10:31.86 did go to church, but when the church is closed, 00:10:31.89\00:10:33.93 they weren't able to do that. 00:10:33.96\00:10:36.03 They couldn't go online 00:10:36.06\00:10:37.73 and even experience online church. 00:10:37.77\00:10:39.60 You know what I mean? 00:10:39.63\00:10:41.14 So this was something that, 00:10:41.17\00:10:42.50 that was crucial that they missed a lot. 00:10:42.54\00:10:44.21 I mean, the smiles on their faces 00:10:44.24\00:10:46.57 definitely spoke for themselves when we were able to do that. 00:10:46.61\00:10:50.51 And then obviously, you know, we as, 00:10:50.55\00:10:54.48 and I hear from our staff all the time, 00:10:54.52\00:10:55.95 there are those that just need prayer, you know, 00:10:55.98\00:10:58.62 that we're going to pray for. 00:10:58.65\00:10:59.99 And we're actually looking to hire a part-time chaplain, 00:11:00.02\00:11:04.69 calling them a chaplain, that's going to be onsite 00:11:04.73\00:11:06.93 to help meet that spiritual need 00:11:06.96\00:11:09.40 for those experiencing homelessness as well. 00:11:09.43\00:11:11.40 So that's a project that we're actually trying 00:11:11.43\00:11:13.74 to raise money for as well to kind of be there 00:11:13.77\00:11:16.64 for them in that, in that way. 00:11:16.67\00:11:19.24 So that's something that's, that's been working. 00:11:19.27\00:11:21.88 And then there's Patrick, which I'll talk about later, 00:11:21.91\00:11:23.95 I guess when we go through the pictures that story. 00:11:23.98\00:11:27.02 Yeah. You have so much going on. 00:11:27.05\00:11:29.98 One of the things that I'm curious about is, 00:11:30.02\00:11:32.25 how do you pick the location where you're going to take 00:11:32.29\00:11:37.53 the shower trailer 00:11:37.56\00:11:38.89 or where you're going to take the change trailer? 00:11:38.93\00:11:41.10 Like how do you, how do you find that location? 00:11:41.13\00:11:45.03 That's a good question. 00:11:45.07\00:11:47.44 So we used to, we used to kind of go to different areas 00:11:47.47\00:11:52.11 where we felt and one of the crucial things 00:11:52.14\00:11:58.51 I think about a drop-in center in general 00:11:58.55\00:12:00.92 for the homeless is, is, you know, 00:12:00.95\00:12:03.69 being able to meet those basic needs. 00:12:03.72\00:12:05.62 But when you're a mobile like us, 00:12:05.65\00:12:07.76 we can actually meet the homeless where they are. 00:12:07.79\00:12:09.96 And one of the purposes is to engage as many people 00:12:09.99\00:12:12.86 as possible to create those relationships 00:12:12.89\00:12:14.93 and build that trust, to then refer them 00:12:14.96\00:12:17.37 to other organizations to help end homelessness. 00:12:17.40\00:12:21.00 So, you know, we definitely want 00:12:21.04\00:12:22.77 to meet them where they are. 00:12:22.80\00:12:24.14 And so that's what we've been doing. 00:12:24.17\00:12:25.71 We try to pick locations where we feel 00:12:25.74\00:12:29.74 that they are going to be most comfortable 00:12:29.78\00:12:32.81 going to, and currently, you know, 00:12:32.85\00:12:36.45 we just for about a month now, we've been operating 00:12:36.48\00:12:39.22 at the Christian Service Center in Orlando, because that's, 00:12:39.25\00:12:43.06 that's something that's been in the community for ages. 00:12:43.09\00:12:45.43 You know, those that are, 00:12:45.46\00:12:48.20 that are experiencing homelessness, 00:12:48.23\00:12:49.56 they know where that location is. 00:12:49.60\00:12:51.63 I mean, the homeless, the coalition for the homeless 00:12:51.67\00:12:55.24 that has a shelter is maybe two or three blocks away. 00:12:55.27\00:12:59.24 So it's, it's, you know, it's a place 00:12:59.27\00:13:01.71 that they're familiar with that they're comfortable 00:13:01.74\00:13:03.45 with that, you know, 00:13:03.48\00:13:05.25 and that's crucial in being able 00:13:05.28\00:13:06.72 to provide these services and build that trust. 00:13:06.75\00:13:08.85 So that's how we picked that location. 00:13:08.88\00:13:12.12 Okay, good to know, good to know. 00:13:12.15\00:13:14.29 We do have several pictures and so I'd like to start 00:13:14.32\00:13:18.73 putting the first one up now, 00:13:18.76\00:13:21.00 and then you tell us a little bit about 00:13:21.03\00:13:22.40 what's going on in each one of these? 00:13:22.43\00:13:25.30 Yeah. I'm going to share a testimony. 00:13:25.33\00:13:28.44 It's about our friend, Patrick, 00:13:28.47\00:13:30.51 that's him right there holding the door open. 00:13:30.54\00:13:32.37 He's kind of, you know, guiding some volunteers 00:13:32.41\00:13:35.68 that are volunteering there on how to clean the bathrooms. 00:13:35.71\00:13:38.95 He came to us back in, it was late 2018, early 2019, 00:13:38.98\00:13:45.85 and he just came to us to receive a shower, you know, 00:13:45.89\00:13:48.26 and to get his needs met. 00:13:48.29\00:13:49.96 And so, you know, we got to know him a little bit, 00:13:49.99\00:13:53.70 and he was so grateful at being able to receive these services 00:13:53.73\00:13:57.37 that he started to clean the bathrooms 00:13:57.40\00:13:59.67 after each person that showered and used the bathroom. 00:13:59.70\00:14:02.80 And as a volunteer, I mean, he didn't expect 00:14:02.84\00:14:05.04 anything in return. 00:14:05.07\00:14:06.71 So that's just a picture of him volunteering with us. 00:14:06.74\00:14:10.98 If we go to the next shot here. 00:14:11.01\00:14:14.58 That's, this is him working with us as an employee. 00:14:14.62\00:14:18.25 So when we decided to hire people back in March, 00:14:18.29\00:14:23.22 you know, he was one of the first people 00:14:23.26\00:14:25.06 we decided to hire. 00:14:25.09\00:14:26.43 I mean, he's been with us and volunteering with us 00:14:26.46\00:14:27.96 for over a year at that point. 00:14:28.00\00:14:29.86 And he was good at what he did. 00:14:29.90\00:14:31.23 He was a hard worker, so we hired him. 00:14:31.27\00:14:33.44 And at the same time as we hired him, 00:14:33.47\00:14:35.07 we helped to get them off the street as well. 00:14:35.10\00:14:37.01 So he was in a place with AC and a bed 00:14:37.04\00:14:39.94 and, you know, he was comfortable. 00:14:39.97\00:14:42.38 And so that's a picture of him 00:14:42.41\00:14:44.81 and our homeless outreach director, 00:14:44.85\00:14:46.31 Kathy, they just took a picture there after outreach. 00:14:46.35\00:14:50.25 And so, he was a huge asset to our operation 00:14:50.29\00:14:53.96 and helping us to run during Coronavirus. 00:14:53.99\00:14:58.16 The next picture here. 00:14:58.19\00:15:01.66 So what ended up happening is... 00:15:01.70\00:15:07.60 So Pat, he started to limp 00:15:07.64\00:15:11.17 and it was back in about late June. 00:15:11.21\00:15:15.24 He started to limp, you know, people are noticing, 00:15:15.28\00:15:17.38 seemed like he was losing weight. 00:15:17.41\00:15:20.92 And he didn't really know what it was. 00:15:20.95\00:15:23.62 And we didn't, we kind of were urging him to go 00:15:23.65\00:15:26.19 and get it checked out and go to the hospital. 00:15:26.22\00:15:29.19 And finally, in early July he did end up 00:15:29.22\00:15:32.83 going to the hospital. 00:15:32.86\00:15:35.10 And you know, while we all thought 00:15:35.13\00:15:37.17 it was some kind of like pinched nerve or something, 00:15:37.20\00:15:40.40 and, even him, thought it was something like that. 00:15:40.44\00:15:43.71 We find out that he has stage IV lung cancer. 00:15:43.74\00:15:47.44 Oh, man. 00:15:47.48\00:15:48.81 That had metastasized and spread to his hip, 00:15:48.84\00:15:51.28 and that's why he was limping. 00:15:51.31\00:15:54.02 And so the doctors told us, 00:15:54.05\00:15:56.58 one of our outreach workers, Carlos, 00:15:56.62\00:15:58.09 was with him in the hospital 00:15:58.12\00:15:59.65 and he wept when he heard the diagnosis. 00:15:59.69\00:16:01.76 You know, Carlos did. 00:16:01.79\00:16:03.56 And it caught us off guard. 00:16:08.06\00:16:09.50 It caught all of us off guard. 00:16:09.53\00:16:11.83 And he only, he only had a few weeks to live 00:16:11.87\00:16:16.10 is what the doctor said after that. 00:16:16.14\00:16:17.94 And he didn't want to. 00:16:17.97\00:16:19.31 Pat, you know, he's stubborn, 00:16:19.34\00:16:21.04 you know, he didn't want to stay in the hospital. 00:16:21.08\00:16:24.35 He wanted to leave because he wanted 00:16:24.38\00:16:26.45 to say goodbye to people. 00:16:26.48\00:16:27.82 And with the Coronavirus restrictions with visitors, 00:16:27.85\00:16:30.72 he knew that he wouldn't be able to do that. 00:16:30.75\00:16:32.92 You know, he want to spend his last days 00:16:32.95\00:16:34.92 with the people that loved him and thepeople he loved. 00:16:34.96\00:16:37.96 And so that picture where he's in the bed 00:16:37.99\00:16:41.13 that's after he left the hospital. 00:16:41.16\00:16:43.16 We had gotten him a place kind of closer 00:16:43.20\00:16:46.53 to where the people he knows is, 00:16:46.57\00:16:49.57 you know, closer to downtown. 00:16:49.60\00:16:51.97 And that was us kind of with him. 00:16:52.01\00:16:54.71 He actually in that picture 00:16:54.74\00:16:56.34 that was right after his baptism. 00:16:56.38\00:16:59.58 One of his last requests was to be baptized. 00:16:59.61\00:17:02.78 And prior to this, it wasn't just a spontaneous thing 00:17:02.82\00:17:05.85 when he first got shelter with us, 00:17:05.89\00:17:08.76 when he first had a roof over his head 00:17:08.79\00:17:11.09 and a bed, he started to do morning devotionals. 00:17:11.13\00:17:13.80 And so, when you look at his Facebook, 00:17:13.83\00:17:16.00 you can see his little morning devotionals 00:17:16.03\00:17:18.50 that he'll post up on Facebook. 00:17:18.53\00:17:20.70 And he started to spend that time with God. 00:17:20.74\00:17:23.30 You know, and obviously, we would always 00:17:23.34\00:17:25.87 kind of emphasize that aspect that, 00:17:25.91\00:17:29.04 that spiritual aspect with him 00:17:29.08\00:17:30.58 and talk with him and about those things. 00:17:30.61\00:17:32.95 And so, you know, one of his last requests 00:17:32.98\00:17:36.85 was to be baptized 00:17:36.89\00:17:38.22 and since he couldn't move too much, 00:17:38.25\00:17:39.59 he was baptized in the bathtub of that hotel. 00:17:39.62\00:17:43.49 Wow! The pastor came and did that. 00:17:43.53\00:17:47.13 And so, the next picture that we have is about a week 00:17:47.16\00:17:52.80 after that he was moved to hospice. 00:17:52.83\00:17:56.14 That's my wife there sitting with him. 00:17:56.17\00:17:59.21 We both visited, we both went to go visit him 00:17:59.24\00:18:02.74 as soon as he got moved into hospice. 00:18:02.78\00:18:04.88 And you know, there wasn't, 00:18:04.91\00:18:07.52 there definitely wasn't much time left. 00:18:07.55\00:18:09.72 He was on morphine to help ease the pain 00:18:09.75\00:18:11.82 and the pain was like unbearable for him. 00:18:11.85\00:18:15.39 And, you know, we were there 00:18:15.42\00:18:17.13 and we spent some time with him, 00:18:17.16\00:18:19.03 spent a few hours with him and just talking with him 00:18:19.06\00:18:22.76 and, you know, we prayed with him 00:18:22.80\00:18:26.27 and, you know, the next day one of our... 00:18:26.30\00:18:30.14 Her name's Paula Meadow, one of our board members 00:18:31.81\00:18:33.54 and our HR director went to go visit him. 00:18:33.58\00:18:37.01 And as, when she got there, he was unresponsive 00:18:37.05\00:18:41.12 and he ended up passing away while she was holding his hand. 00:18:41.15\00:18:48.02 But, you know, I mentioned the story 00:18:48.06\00:18:50.86 because this is an example of what we want to see 00:18:50.89\00:18:56.00 with everyone that we serve. 00:18:56.03\00:18:57.67 You know, we want to be able to meet 00:18:57.70\00:18:59.23 that need to help get them off the streets 00:18:59.27\00:19:01.10 so they can, they can have a place. 00:19:01.14\00:19:03.04 You know, it's hard, 00:19:03.07\00:19:04.41 when you're living on the street, 00:19:04.44\00:19:06.24 it's hard to be consistent with anything, 00:19:06.27\00:19:09.24 you know, even reading the Bible 00:19:09.28\00:19:12.08 or, you know, it's just, it's hard, 00:19:12.11\00:19:15.55 you know, when someone has that roof over their head 00:19:15.58\00:19:19.25 and they have a bed to sleep in, 00:19:19.29\00:19:20.69 and they're comfortable. 00:19:20.72\00:19:22.06 Now that opens new doors, 00:19:22.09\00:19:23.59 you know, I feel like that spiritual door is more open. 00:19:23.63\00:19:27.53 You know what I'm saying? 00:19:27.56\00:19:28.90 And so, when we're able to meet those basic needs 00:19:28.93\00:19:31.97 and when we're able to then emphasize 00:19:32.00\00:19:34.77 that spiritual component and when it leads to baptism 00:19:34.80\00:19:39.37 and they're able to get off the street 00:19:39.41\00:19:41.41 and they're working, you know, like him, 00:19:41.44\00:19:43.01 he was working with us. 00:19:43.04\00:19:45.31 You know, it's life-changing. 00:19:45.35\00:19:47.75 And we want to see that with every single person we serve. 00:19:47.78\00:19:50.52 And so we're going to create a program in his memory. 00:19:50.55\00:19:54.16 You know, we did an actual memorial service for him 00:19:54.19\00:19:56.79 after he passed. 00:19:56.83\00:19:58.16 I have a picture of that, 00:19:58.19\00:19:59.53 that flyer that we put out on social media. 00:19:59.56\00:20:02.73 Invite all the volunteers and his friends, family, 00:20:02.76\00:20:07.67 you know, and, yeah, it was definitely, 00:20:07.70\00:20:12.44 really emotional, very hard for all of us. 00:20:12.47\00:20:14.64 I believe it. 00:20:14.68\00:20:16.18 Yeah, but he was, you know, he's awesome. 00:20:16.21\00:20:19.15 And I'm happy that in heaven we'll be able to see him again. 00:20:19.18\00:20:24.45 Yes. 00:20:24.49\00:20:25.92 When Jesus comes back, it's going to be so sweet. 00:20:25.95\00:20:28.92 When Jesus comes back to get us, 00:20:28.96\00:20:31.26 that will be incredible. 00:20:31.29\00:20:33.40 Yes. 00:20:33.43\00:20:34.76 It sounds like Pat made a huge, 00:20:34.80\00:20:37.43 you had a huge impact on his life 00:20:37.47\00:20:41.24 and he had a huge impact on your life 00:20:41.27\00:20:44.27 and the lives of others as well. 00:20:44.31\00:20:46.27 That's huge. 00:20:46.31\00:20:47.64 And that's what it's all about is leading people to Christ 00:20:47.68\00:20:51.15 and that practical Christianity. 00:20:51.18\00:20:53.38 And I think that SALT really embodies that. 00:20:53.42\00:20:56.65 Like, I think that you guys, 00:20:56.69\00:20:58.45 as an organization really embodies that 00:20:58.49\00:21:01.36 because you're meeting tangible needs that people have, 00:21:01.39\00:21:05.39 and also witnessing to them. 00:21:05.43\00:21:08.00 And that's powerful. 00:21:08.03\00:21:09.36 I'm so glad that he got baptized, 00:21:09.40\00:21:11.67 you know, prior to his passing. 00:21:11.70\00:21:14.80 Yeah, yeah. 00:21:14.84\00:21:16.17 It was just an awesome day with him that day. 00:21:16.20\00:21:22.04 And, yeah, he definitely did make an impact in our lives. 00:21:22.08\00:21:25.68 We'll always remember him. 00:21:25.71\00:21:28.38 So, yeah. Yes. 00:21:28.42\00:21:30.35 And I know that we have a few more pictures, 00:21:30.39\00:21:33.29 so we'll start going through those. 00:21:33.32\00:21:35.09 I want you to tell us what's going on in these. 00:21:35.12\00:21:37.93 Yeah, so, this is, I want to share this picture 00:21:37.96\00:21:40.80 because this is our staff. 00:21:40.83\00:21:42.16 You saw Cathy, our homeless outreach director 00:21:42.20\00:21:43.80 in the middle there, with the sunglasses is Oscar, 00:21:43.83\00:21:47.17 he's our homeless outreach coordinator. 00:21:47.20\00:21:50.34 And then the other three, 00:21:50.37\00:21:51.81 there are Carlos, Paula, and Natalia. 00:21:51.84\00:21:55.94 They are our homeless outreach assistance. 00:21:55.98\00:21:58.88 They all kind of specialize in different areas like Carlos, 00:21:58.91\00:22:01.48 he cuts hair. 00:22:01.52\00:22:02.85 Paula helps with video. And she was there on the right. 00:22:02.88\00:22:06.65 And then on the left, there is Natalia. 00:22:06.69\00:22:08.69 She helps with data entry. Oh, wow. 00:22:08.72\00:22:12.59 You have to do a lot of data entry 00:22:12.63\00:22:13.96 to track our impact. 00:22:14.00\00:22:15.33 So, but yeah, it's been, they've been a huge blessing. 00:22:15.36\00:22:17.90 They've been on the front lines four days a week 00:22:17.93\00:22:20.37 on serving those, you know, 00:22:20.40\00:22:22.04 that are experiencing homelessness 00:22:22.07\00:22:23.41 and really being, being those people to show 00:22:23.44\00:22:25.71 that love that Christ has for them 00:22:25.74\00:22:28.04 just in person, you know, and that's exciting. 00:22:28.08\00:22:30.88 For sure. Yeah. 00:22:30.91\00:22:32.25 It seems like there's a lot of positions 00:22:32.28\00:22:33.82 that are required for this ministry 00:22:33.85\00:22:36.58 and organization to run? 00:22:36.62\00:22:40.26 Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah, for sure. 00:22:40.29\00:22:42.66 Yeah, I mean, it's, I mean, I, even me, I, 00:22:42.69\00:22:46.66 you know, I'm mostly work a lot remote now. 00:22:46.70\00:22:50.43 I mean, there's a lot that happens in the background 00:22:50.47\00:22:53.03 that I have to do. 00:22:53.07\00:22:54.40 The homeless outreach director goes both onsite and offsite, 00:22:54.44\00:22:58.57 does some things in the background as well. 00:22:58.61\00:23:00.18 A lot of meetings have to happen, 00:23:00.21\00:23:01.84 lot of fundraising efforts that need to be done. 00:23:01.88\00:23:04.15 You know what I mean? Yes. 00:23:04.18\00:23:05.71 And it's, you know, putting reports together. 00:23:05.75\00:23:08.05 I mean, there's a lot in the background, 00:23:08.08\00:23:10.65 you know, I think when we think about the ministry 00:23:10.69\00:23:12.85 we just kind of think about that visual 00:23:12.89\00:23:17.33 of maybe someone giving someone something, 00:23:17.36\00:23:19.79 or giving, you know, handing out some food 00:23:19.83\00:23:21.30 or giving out some clothes. 00:23:21.33\00:23:23.57 But, you know, the ministry could also look like 00:23:23.60\00:23:26.23 someone's sitting on a computer. 00:23:26.27\00:23:27.87 Yes. 00:23:27.90\00:23:29.24 You know, and that'spart of, you know, 00:23:29.27\00:23:31.67 what needs to happen to, to keep this running, so. 00:23:31.71\00:23:33.98 Absolutely. Everybody has a part to play. 00:23:34.01\00:23:36.41 Yes. Right. 00:23:37.81\00:23:39.15 We have a few more pictures that I want us to get to, 00:23:39.18\00:23:42.28 because our time is running a little short. 00:23:42.32\00:23:44.55 What do we have here? 00:23:44.59\00:23:47.06 So, yeah, this is recent. 00:23:47.09\00:23:49.02 The mayor of Orlando actually gave us 00:23:49.06\00:23:51.66 a shout out on his Facebook. 00:23:51.69\00:23:54.36 And that right there, that, what he shared 00:23:54.40\00:23:57.70 is a recent news story from two weeks ago 00:23:57.73\00:24:00.50 of the $250,000 grant that was awarded to us 00:24:00.54\00:24:03.81 to continue serving for another year. 00:24:03.84\00:24:07.61 You know, and I just want to say, 00:24:07.64\00:24:09.28 you know, I think, you know, going to even just looking at 00:24:09.31\00:24:12.18 just a story here in the Bible, like Nehemiah, you know, 00:24:12.21\00:24:16.18 who was working for that king, 00:24:16.22\00:24:18.82 you know, that government, right? 00:24:18.85\00:24:20.66 And he had, he saw a gap in the community 00:24:20.69\00:24:25.09 and it encouraged him. 00:24:25.13\00:24:26.46 I mean, he, God had given him, 00:24:26.49\00:24:28.20 you know, he spent time in prayer. 00:24:28.23\00:24:29.66 It was four months from when he prayed 00:24:29.70\00:24:32.80 that initial prayer in Chapter 1. 00:24:32.83\00:24:34.64 And until Chapter 2, 00:24:34.67\00:24:36.24 when he actually asked the question, 00:24:36.27\00:24:37.97 you know, spent that time in prayer 00:24:38.01\00:24:39.34 and fasting and thinking about how to meet this need. 00:24:39.37\00:24:42.88 And then finally he decided to ask the king for support 00:24:42.91\00:24:45.45 and the king who didn't identify as, you know, 00:24:45.48\00:24:49.82 as the follower of the same God, 00:24:49.85\00:24:51.92 you know gave him all the resources 00:24:51.95\00:24:54.56 that he needed to be able to meet 00:24:54.59\00:24:56.29 that need for his people. 00:24:56.32\00:24:58.49 You know what I mean? 00:24:58.53\00:24:59.86 So I just want to encourage anyone that's looking, 00:24:59.89\00:25:03.33 to start something or, you know, 00:25:03.37\00:25:06.23 to make a change in the community. 00:25:06.27\00:25:08.70 You know, Jesus says, 00:25:08.74\00:25:10.07 "Ask, and it'll be given to you, 00:25:10.11\00:25:11.44 seek, and you will find, 00:25:11.47\00:25:12.94 knock and the door will be opened." 00:25:12.97\00:25:14.31 You know, and I truly believe that I think in fundraising, 00:25:14.34\00:25:17.88 you know, just in general you know, 00:25:17.91\00:25:20.08 one of the biggest balls that we drop in fundraising 00:25:20.12\00:25:23.45 is not asking the question, you know, 00:25:23.49\00:25:26.45 and that's a huge part, I just want to comment on. 00:25:26.49\00:25:29.89 Yeah. That's powerful. 00:25:29.92\00:25:31.53 Thank you for sharing that for sure. 00:25:31.56\00:25:33.50 We've got, I'd say about two and a half minutes left 00:25:33.53\00:25:37.87 and I want to know what are some of the needs 00:25:37.90\00:25:43.20 that your organization has currently? 00:25:43.24\00:25:46.91 Yeah, so as you can imagine, 00:25:46.94\00:25:50.01 you know, with increased funding 00:25:50.05\00:25:51.45 it comes increased operation, 00:25:51.48\00:25:53.58 but the increased operation comes increased costs, 00:25:53.62\00:25:56.22 you know, so we're where our annual budget 00:25:56.25\00:26:00.32 has now grown to about 400,000 a year. 00:26:00.36\00:26:04.63 And so, while the city of Orlando funding 00:26:04.66\00:26:06.86 does cover more than half of that, 00:26:06.90\00:26:08.96 we are still responsible for, you know, 00:26:09.00\00:26:12.03 raising another 150,000 for next year. 00:26:12.07\00:26:15.17 So that's something we're really working toward. 00:26:15.20\00:26:17.77 We don't want to decrease in services. 00:26:17.81\00:26:20.31 We want to increase our capacity 00:26:20.34\00:26:22.04 and expand our services 00:26:22.08\00:26:23.48 and meet even more needs in the community. 00:26:23.51\00:26:25.78 So we're going in faith, you know, 00:26:25.81\00:26:28.58 asking God to help meet that need. 00:26:28.62\00:26:30.92 Even our laundry trailer, 00:26:30.95\00:26:32.99 you know, we made a down payment, 00:26:33.02\00:26:34.36 but we still have about $10,000 to go 00:26:34.39\00:26:37.86 to raise the full amount needed for that trailer. 00:26:37.89\00:26:40.66 So it's another thing that we're really pushing for. 00:26:40.70\00:26:44.07 Well, we want to put up your address, 00:26:44.10\00:26:47.20 so that people know how they can get 00:26:47.24\00:26:48.57 in touch with you, 00:26:48.60\00:26:49.94 and if you would just read that to us. 00:26:49.97\00:26:52.07 Yeah. 00:26:52.11\00:26:53.44 So you can mail your tax-deductible donations 00:26:53.48\00:26:55.58 to 100 East Pine Street, Suite 110, 00:26:55.61\00:26:59.95 Orlando, Florida 32801. 00:26:59.98\00:27:03.42 Our phone number is (866) 237-2589, 00:27:03.45\00:27:08.62 or 866-BE SALTY. 00:27:08.66\00:27:11.99 And our website, saltoutreach.org, 00:27:12.03\00:27:14.43 and email address is team@saltoutreach.org. 00:27:14.46\00:27:18.70 Wonderful, wonderful. 00:27:18.73\00:27:20.54 Man, I can't believe our time is just about up, Eric. 00:27:20.57\00:27:25.14 Want to thank you for, you know, 00:27:25.17\00:27:27.08 what you're doing to reach the community for Christ, 00:27:27.11\00:27:30.55 what you're doing to really put on display 00:27:30.58\00:27:33.38 the practicality of the gospel, 00:27:33.42\00:27:35.75 and how you've been so willing to help those in need. 00:27:35.78\00:27:39.79 And thank you for coming on this program 00:27:39.82\00:27:41.49 and sharing today. 00:27:41.52\00:27:43.06 I hope that you at home will get involved 00:27:43.09\00:27:46.26 and support this wonderful ministry, 00:27:46.29\00:27:49.06 and you know what? 00:27:49.10\00:27:50.67 It just wouldn't be the same without you. 00:27:50.70\00:27:52.93 Join us next time. God bless. 00:27:52.97\00:27:54.90
