you know, they teach you

So they, I remember
that they told me that

not to in a way to scare me,

but in a way to try
to get me to behave,

what that made me do
is totally reject God.

life like as an atheist?

first it was normal

I had a great
upbringing, great family,

had a great time in high school.

But then things
really started to change

when I got into college

because once I got into college,

you know, now there are
expectations in the sense of,

what you're going to do

with the rest of your life.

And so, that, as
I started to study,

I started to also party,

I started to get
involved in the party scenes

and working in the tourist area.

And so I noticed that I was not,

I was feeling empty, I was
not, I did not have a purpose.

And I was, in my
mind, I was thinking,

"Wait a minute, so
do I just go to school,

get a job, get married,
have kids retire and then die?"

And so, that was
the mindset that I had,

because I didn't
believe in anything after that.

And it was
really difficult for me

because I noticed
that I had that void.

I had that lack of purpose.

And so I noticed that

I was getting
depressed because of that.

That depression even led me

to contemplate
suicide a couple of times.

I contemplated taking my life

because there was nothing
for me to live, you know,

there was no meaning
and so the praise the Lord,

I didn't go through with it,

I didn't have the guts to do it.

But then when, you
know, the more you use,

the more depressed you get,

the more you try
to hide yourself,

whether it be in drugs,
whether it be in alcohol,

whether it be in
sports, whatever it is,

you're trying to find a purpose,

so you're trying to
hold on to something.

So I was masquerading my
emptiness with my drinking,

with my drugs and my party life.

And this was going
on, you know, for a while,

for a number of years.

And, but it wasn't, it
was nothing fulfilling.

I was empty.

just to have fun and party

really started to kick in.

looking in this mirror,

I was in a hotel
room with my boys.

And we were
drinking, we were doing drugs.

just shook me to the core

was in the bathroom

And I'm like, "Oh, you know,
yeah, I'm taking some courses."

course on psychology,

it was an

when I took that
course, in that course,

we were studying the human mind.

And it took a second to
talk about the human brain

and the connection with
the body and the biology.

And I was blown away
with what I was looking at.

I mean, the human

And when I studied that,

to study the universe

being in the universe.

landing back on Christianity?

for purpose for me.

I noticed that it was not,

And so I bought this
book not because of Jesus,

had read through it,

the book and read about Jesus

what it talked about Jesus,

because it looked at Jesus

stuck out, number one,

it talked about, it
gave extra biblical evidence

to the existence of Jesus Christ

and the confirming the accounts

that were
mentioned in the gospels.

Now, before that,
I had thought that

Jesus was just,
you know, a myth,

cool guy that maybe
lived in the Middle East,

and they kind of exaggerated
00:15:24.12\00:15:25.45
some of the things
that they do sometimes

with other historical figures.

But when it said very
clearly that He had gone through

those things and that
He had died on the cross,

immediately into my mind,

And so I decided
to continue to read.

I said, I'm going to
read the Bible, right?

I'm going to read
the New Testament.

I didn't want to go

the concept is that

he was, we talked about religion

about three and a half hours.

was a great conversation

on my head who they were.

And so that's how that started.
