I love it. 00:01:39.83\00:01:41.16 Now, this is your first time on the Dare to Dream Network. 00:01:41.20\00:01:44.17 So I want to introduce our viewers to, you know, 00:01:44.20\00:01:47.90 to you and talk a little bit about 00:01:47.94\00:01:49.97 where you were raised? 00:01:50.01\00:01:53.98 Yeah, so I was born, I was born in New York City. 00:01:54.01\00:01:57.78 My mom's Dominican, my dad's Puerto Rican. 00:01:57.81\00:02:00.28 So that's a pretty interesting combination there. 00:02:00.32\00:02:04.25 And so I was there till about we were 10 years old. 00:02:04.29\00:02:07.66 And when I was about 10 years old, 00:02:07.69\00:02:09.02 we then moved to Puerto Rico. 00:02:09.06\00:02:10.39 My Dominican family all moved to Puerto Rico. 00:02:10.43\00:02:12.73 So English is my first language, 00:02:12.76\00:02:14.66 but then I learned Spanish as well. 00:02:14.70\00:02:17.30 And, and yeah, so I've been, 00:02:17.33\00:02:21.60 live my life between New York City 00:02:21.64\00:02:23.04 because then I came back as I was an adult, 00:02:23.07\00:02:24.64 so I have to live between New York City, Puerto Rico, 00:02:24.67\00:02:26.94 lived a couple of years in Florida 00:02:26.98\00:02:28.31 here there, Colorado a little bit. 00:02:28.34\00:02:30.48 And now we're in California, here in Roseville, California. 00:02:30.51\00:02:33.65 Got you. 00:02:33.68\00:02:35.02 And now how did that have an impact on your future? 00:02:35.05\00:02:41.19 Well, it had an impact on my future 00:02:41.22\00:02:42.56 because my family was a Catholic. 00:02:42.59\00:02:45.39 And I was raised 00:02:45.43\00:02:47.20 in a Catholic family, very loving family. 00:02:47.23\00:02:50.63 You know, a lot of attention, big family too. 00:02:50.67\00:02:53.97 But, the way it was interesting is because they were Catholic. 00:02:54.00\00:02:58.14 One of the things that it really 00:02:58.17\00:02:59.51 influenced me was because 00:02:59.54\00:03:01.18 when I was being raised as a Catholic, 00:03:01.21\00:03:03.11 you know, they teach you 00:03:03.14\00:03:04.48 the teaching of burning in hell, right? 00:03:04.51\00:03:06.21 You're going to burn in hell forever. 00:03:06.25\00:03:08.08 So they, I remember that they told me that 00:03:08.12\00:03:10.89 not to in a way to scare me, 00:03:10.92\00:03:12.82 but in a way to try to get me to behave, 00:03:12.85\00:03:14.26 you know, hey, if you don't behave, 00:03:14.29\00:03:16.09 you know, this is what's going to happen to you. 00:03:16.12\00:03:17.83 This is what's going to, you're going to burn in hell 00:03:17.86\00:03:19.89 and so that instead of getting me to behave, 00:03:19.93\00:03:22.30 what that made me do is totally reject God. 00:03:22.33\00:03:25.00 I said that, that does not sound like a God of love to me. 00:03:25.03\00:03:27.37 Yes. 00:03:27.40\00:03:28.74 You know, I misbehaved a lot and my mom and my dad 00:03:28.77\00:03:31.84 had spanked me pretty hard 00:03:31.87\00:03:33.21 but they're not still spanking me. 00:03:33.24\00:03:35.21 And so I just thought that if that's the God 00:03:35.24\00:03:37.88 that everybody else thinks it is, 00:03:37.91\00:03:40.68 I said I don't want anything to do. 00:03:40.72\00:03:42.05 So what it really did with me, 00:03:42.08\00:03:44.05 it kind of gave me a distorted image of God. 00:03:44.09\00:03:47.02 And so I was young, 00:03:47.06\00:03:48.62 I couldn't understand the concept, 00:03:48.66\00:03:49.99 so I just said, you know what? 00:03:50.03\00:03:51.36 I don't want anything to do with that God. 00:03:51.39\00:03:52.73 And so, I continue to go to church, 00:03:52.76\00:03:56.03 I went through the Catholic, you know, rituals 00:03:56.06\00:03:58.00 and all the other things work because I had to, right? 00:03:58.03\00:04:00.90 There's no... 00:04:00.94\00:04:02.27 When you're raised in Hispanic values, 00:04:02.30\00:04:03.91 no question about it. 00:04:03.94\00:04:05.57 And so that happened until I stopped, 00:04:05.61\00:04:08.88 until they stopped forcing me to go to church. 00:04:08.91\00:04:10.35 And once they stopped, I said, you know what? 00:04:10.38\00:04:11.71 That's it. 00:04:11.75\00:04:13.08 I don't want anything else to do with God and with, 00:04:13.11\00:04:16.15 you know, with what they're teaching. 00:04:16.18\00:04:17.52 Yes. 00:04:17.55\00:04:18.89 Now, how old were you when you decided that 00:04:18.92\00:04:20.66 you didn't want anything else to do 00:04:20.69\00:04:22.36 with God or the teaching? 00:04:22.39\00:04:25.36 Oh, I was pretty probably moving 00:04:25.39\00:04:27.76 within the transact transition 00:04:27.80\00:04:29.56 between New York City to Puerto Rico. 00:04:29.60\00:04:32.47 So I was probably about 00:04:32.50\00:04:34.30 8, 9, 10 years old in that area. 00:04:34.34\00:04:36.81 I don't specific direct, 00:04:36.84\00:04:38.17 but I remember very clearly the thought process 00:04:38.21\00:04:42.01 that I had, so I was young. 00:04:42.04\00:04:43.95 Yes. But I didn't tell anybody. 00:04:43.98\00:04:45.68 I just kept it to myself. 00:04:45.71\00:04:47.48 Okay, so your family didn't even know? 00:04:47.52\00:04:50.39 No, no, no. 00:04:50.42\00:04:51.75 So at what point did they find out? 00:04:51.79\00:04:55.52 Well, you know what? 00:04:55.56\00:04:56.89 They really didn't find out because it's now, nowadays, 00:04:56.93\00:05:01.43 when you say that you're an atheist, you know, 00:05:01.46\00:05:03.47 in some circles, it's kind of cool, right? 00:05:03.50\00:05:05.13 You're like, oh, you're cutting into 00:05:05.17\00:05:06.50 but in those days that wasn't very heard of. 00:05:06.53\00:05:08.74 And so, it's something that you don't want to speak, 00:05:08.77\00:05:12.71 you know, it wasn't taught in school. 00:05:12.74\00:05:15.18 Hispanic culture, it wasn't something 00:05:15.21\00:05:18.28 that I had heard of either. 00:05:18.31\00:05:19.91 I just, you know, I never knew what an atheist was, 00:05:19.95\00:05:22.42 I just, now I know because of the, 00:05:22.45\00:05:25.62 how the concepts are defined, but at that time, 00:05:25.65\00:05:27.56 it was something that I didn't know about. 00:05:27.59\00:05:29.59 I just said, I don't want anything to do 00:05:29.62\00:05:31.06 with God, right? 00:05:31.09\00:05:32.43 And so, so yeah, no, I didn't say to anybody until 00:05:32.46\00:05:36.97 once I was older, once I got into university. 00:05:37.00\00:05:39.73 Got you. 00:05:39.77\00:05:41.10 Now, what was your life like as an atheist? 00:05:41.14\00:05:46.74 Well, you know, at first it was normal 00:05:46.78\00:05:49.64 when I was growing up, 00:05:49.68\00:05:51.01 you know, I did school, I went to high school. 00:05:51.05\00:05:53.08 I had a great upbringing, great family, 00:05:53.11\00:05:55.55 had a great time in high school. 00:05:55.58\00:05:58.15 But then things really started to change 00:05:58.19\00:06:00.19 when I got into college 00:06:00.22\00:06:01.56 because once I got into college, 00:06:01.59\00:06:02.92 you know, now there are expectations in the sense of, 00:06:02.96\00:06:05.16 you know, this is what you're going to do 00:06:05.19\00:06:07.16 with the rest of your life. 00:06:07.20\00:06:08.53 And so, that, as I started to study, 00:06:08.56\00:06:12.37 I started to also party, 00:06:12.40\00:06:14.54 I started to get involved in the party scenes 00:06:14.57\00:06:16.44 and working in the tourist area. 00:06:16.47\00:06:18.57 And so I noticed that I was not, 00:06:18.61\00:06:21.14 I was feeling empty, I was not, I did not have a purpose. 00:06:21.18\00:06:24.95 And I was, in my mind, I was thinking, 00:06:24.98\00:06:26.82 "Wait a minute, so do I just go to school, 00:06:26.85\00:06:29.08 get a job, get married, have kids retire and then die?" 00:06:29.12\00:06:33.42 And so, that was the mindset that I had, 00:06:33.46\00:06:35.09 because I didn't believe in anything after that. 00:06:35.12\00:06:37.43 And it was really difficult for me 00:06:37.46\00:06:38.96 because I noticed that I had that void. 00:06:38.99\00:06:41.20 I had that lack of purpose. 00:06:41.23\00:06:42.63 And so I noticed that 00:06:42.66\00:06:44.00 I was getting depressed because of that. 00:06:44.03\00:06:46.43 That depression even led me 00:06:46.47\00:06:47.80 to contemplate suicide a couple of times. 00:06:47.84\00:06:50.41 I contemplated taking my life 00:06:50.44\00:06:51.84 because there was nothing for me to live, you know, 00:06:51.87\00:06:54.14 there was no meaning and so the praise the Lord, 00:06:54.18\00:06:57.31 I didn't go through with it, 00:06:57.35\00:06:58.68 I didn't have the guts to do it. 00:06:58.71\00:07:00.28 But then when, you know, the more you use, 00:07:00.32\00:07:05.09 the more depressed you get, 00:07:05.12\00:07:06.45 the more you try to hide yourself, 00:07:06.49\00:07:07.92 whether it be in drugs, whether it be in alcohol, 00:07:07.96\00:07:10.03 whether it be in sports, whatever it is, 00:07:10.06\00:07:12.39 you're trying to find a purpose, 00:07:12.43\00:07:13.76 so you're trying to hold on to something. 00:07:13.80\00:07:15.13 So I was masquerading my emptiness with my drinking, 00:07:15.16\00:07:17.57 with my drugs and my party life. 00:07:17.60\00:07:20.20 And this was going on, you know, for a while, 00:07:20.24\00:07:22.64 for a number of years. 00:07:22.67\00:07:24.07 And, but it wasn't, it was nothing fulfilling. 00:07:24.11\00:07:28.24 I was empty. 00:07:28.28\00:07:29.61 I was just, I had nothing to, 00:07:29.64\00:07:32.45 I had nothing to hold on to except 00:07:32.48\00:07:34.38 just to have fun and party 00:07:34.42\00:07:35.75 and then wait till it's over basically. 00:07:35.78\00:07:37.92 Yeah. 00:07:37.95\00:07:39.52 Now, would you say that 00:07:39.55\00:07:40.89 it was a gradual, downward spiral, 00:07:40.92\00:07:44.99 like it didn't just happen all at once? 00:07:45.03\00:07:46.63 It was a gradual downward spiral. 00:07:46.66\00:07:49.46 Yeah, yeah. Yeah. 00:07:49.50\00:07:51.40 Yeah, even from high school, I was already thinking things 00:07:51.43\00:07:53.74 but, you know, you don't take, 00:07:53.77\00:07:55.10 in high school you're kind of in a bubble per se, right, 00:07:55.14\00:07:57.94 you don't really understand what's coming. 00:07:57.97\00:07:59.31 And then once you're in college, 00:07:59.34\00:08:00.68 then it's like, "Okay, now this is the real world," right? 00:08:00.71\00:08:02.74 And working, you know, 00:08:02.78\00:08:04.98 I was working already but you know, 00:08:05.01\00:08:06.55 working to sustain myself into for school. 00:08:06.58\00:08:09.18 And that's when things really started to kick in. 00:08:09.22\00:08:10.72 And yeah, it was gradual. 00:08:10.75\00:08:12.09 I just noticed, I didn't even know 00:08:12.12\00:08:13.66 I was depressed and I, you know, even when I... 00:08:13.69\00:08:17.06 I know it's depression now, but at the time I didn't. 00:08:17.09\00:08:19.39 But when I contemplated suicide, 00:08:19.43\00:08:20.96 and I even had an event where one time I was really, 00:08:21.00\00:08:22.96 really drugged up, 00:08:23.00\00:08:24.33 and I remember looking in this mirror, 00:08:24.37\00:08:25.70 I was in a hotel room with my boys. 00:08:25.73\00:08:27.90 And we were drinking, we were doing drugs. 00:08:27.94\00:08:29.84 And I remember I was, I looked into the mirror, 00:08:29.87\00:08:31.67 I went to the bathroom, and I looked into the mirror 00:08:31.71\00:08:33.34 and I don't know 00:08:33.38\00:08:34.71 if you've ever seen the video thriller 00:08:34.74\00:08:36.58 from Michael Jackson. 00:08:36.61\00:08:38.15 I don't advocate anybody seeing it. 00:08:38.18\00:08:40.35 But you know, I saw that, and you know, when they, 00:08:40.38\00:08:43.65 that's what I looked like, I saw my like my cadaver. 00:08:43.69\00:08:46.92 Man, that really just shook me to the core 00:08:46.96\00:08:50.63 and it was, and I was in the bathroom 00:08:50.66\00:08:53.06 for only a couple of minutes 00:08:53.09\00:08:54.43 but it felt like an eternity and that really shook me 00:08:54.46\00:08:57.93 when that and then you know, 00:08:57.97\00:08:59.33 contemplating suicide, I'm like, what is going on? 00:08:59.37\00:09:01.74 And so, I was searching, 00:09:01.77\00:09:03.67 I was desperate to try to find out, 00:09:03.71\00:09:07.78 you know, to fill that void. 00:09:07.81\00:09:09.54 Yes, yes. And it' amazing. 00:09:09.58\00:09:12.38 You know, the devil tries to paint this picture 00:09:12.41\00:09:15.65 like all of those other things are glamorous and you know, 00:09:15.68\00:09:20.96 it's a really empty lifestyle though 00:09:20.99\00:09:23.66 and it leads to death and destruction. 00:09:23.69\00:09:27.86 Yeah, yeah, that's exactly right. 00:09:27.90\00:09:29.36 The devil wants us 00:09:29.40\00:09:30.73 to try to fill that void in our heart 00:09:30.77\00:09:32.43 with the things of the world. 00:09:32.47\00:09:33.94 Yes. And that's exactly right. 00:09:33.97\00:09:35.47 I was traveling, I was partying, 00:09:35.50\00:09:37.47 I was doing what everybody thinks it means to live. 00:09:37.51\00:09:40.18 But it's interesting because in Romans 8:11 00:09:40.21\00:09:42.01 it says that when we receive the Spirit of God, 00:09:42.04\00:09:44.41 that's when He will give us life 00:09:44.45\00:09:47.85 and the real life, 00:09:47.88\00:09:49.22 the real purpose, but you know, you don't know that 00:09:49.25\00:09:51.42 unless you taught in especially that, 00:09:51.45\00:09:53.29 that the only one that can fill that void 00:09:53.32\00:09:55.06 that reason to be is Christ. 00:09:55.09\00:09:58.19 Yes. So yeah. 00:09:58.23\00:09:59.56 Did you have two sets of friends 00:09:59.59\00:10:01.30 or did you just have, 00:10:01.33\00:10:02.93 like one set of friends that was, 00:10:02.96\00:10:05.03 that were heading in the wrong direction? 00:10:05.07\00:10:08.40 No, yeah, yeah, no, it was my, it was us. 00:10:08.44\00:10:11.74 My boys, I had my friends from high school 00:10:11.77\00:10:13.58 and then I had my boys from my neighborhood. 00:10:13.61\00:10:16.54 So I kind of brought these two groups together. 00:10:16.58\00:10:18.88 And, so yeah, there's still, 00:10:18.91\00:10:22.08 I mean, when I go to Puerto Rico, 00:10:22.12\00:10:24.19 you know, there my boys were always talking, 00:10:24.22\00:10:25.65 we're communicating. 00:10:25.69\00:10:27.29 But, you know, that was the life 00:10:27.32\00:10:28.66 that we were going 00:10:28.69\00:10:30.03 and it was normal for us, right? 00:10:30.06\00:10:31.39 It was normal to party and they didn't even know. 00:10:31.43\00:10:33.19 They didn't even know about my depression. 00:10:33.23\00:10:34.66 They didn't even know about my suicidal thoughts. 00:10:34.70\00:10:38.47 You know, it was all a mask, right? 00:10:38.50\00:10:40.84 In front of everybody, I was happy, I was, you know, 00:10:40.87\00:10:42.90 I was the life of the party, I was. 00:10:42.94\00:10:44.84 It was all good. 00:10:44.87\00:10:46.21 But once that finished, 00:10:46.24\00:10:48.64 it all came back and that's when you know, 00:10:48.68\00:10:50.75 you got to face yourself in the mirror. 00:10:50.78\00:10:53.42 Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. 00:10:53.45\00:10:56.38 What led to your transition 00:10:56.42\00:10:58.25 in becoming a believer in Christ? 00:10:58.29\00:11:02.02 Uh, among all the party life and all that, 00:11:02.06\00:11:04.36 and all the things that I was doing, 00:11:04.39\00:11:06.13 I was still going to the university 00:11:06.16\00:11:07.66 every once in a while, I was studying pre law 00:11:07.70\00:11:09.83 in University of Puerto Rico 00:11:09.86\00:11:11.20 and I had to take this course, I was just taking courses 00:11:11.23\00:11:13.77 just so my mom can get off my back. 00:11:13.80\00:11:17.17 Because, uh, you know, they're like, 00:11:17.21\00:11:19.11 when are you going to finish school? 00:11:19.14\00:11:20.48 And I'm like, "Oh, you know, yeah, I'm taking some courses." 00:11:20.51\00:11:22.31 So I had to take, 00:11:22.34\00:11:23.68 I just took a course on psychology, 00:11:23.71\00:11:25.11 it was an elective, and, Brother, 00:11:25.15\00:11:27.35 when I took that course, in that course, 00:11:27.38\00:11:29.25 we were studying the human mind. 00:11:29.28\00:11:31.35 And it took a second to talk about the human brain 00:11:31.39\00:11:34.96 and the connection with the body and the biology. 00:11:34.99\00:11:37.96 And I was blown away with what I was looking at. 00:11:37.99\00:11:40.66 I mean, the human mind outside of God 00:11:40.70\00:11:42.23 is the most amazing thing in this universe. 00:11:42.26\00:11:44.63 And it blew me away. 00:11:44.67\00:11:46.20 And when I studied that, 00:11:46.23\00:11:47.57 and I saw how it's all connected 00:11:47.60\00:11:48.94 and how the body works and the mind 00:11:48.97\00:11:52.47 and we don't even understand the mind, that made me to think 00:11:52.51\00:11:55.31 and that immediately came to my thought. 00:11:55.34\00:11:56.91 I said, "There's got to be something bigger than us," 00:11:56.95\00:11:59.78 because you can't look at a computer, 00:11:59.81\00:12:01.22 you can't look at anything and say that 00:12:01.25\00:12:02.58 it just came out of nowhere. 00:12:02.62\00:12:04.09 There's a mind behind it. 00:12:04.12\00:12:05.69 And whatever created that thing 00:12:05.72\00:12:07.06 has to be bigger than that which was created. 00:12:07.09\00:12:09.42 So immediately as I looked at the complexity 00:12:09.46\00:12:11.79 of the human body, 00:12:11.83\00:12:13.33 and that just caught me, I said, there has to be some, 00:12:13.36\00:12:16.77 this came out of something, right? 00:12:16.80\00:12:18.13 Yes. 00:12:18.17\00:12:19.50 As I studied ecosystems, DNA, it's interesting. 00:12:19.53\00:12:21.94 It's science is the thing that made me to believe 00:12:21.97\00:12:24.57 in the supernatural being that we know as God now. 00:12:24.61\00:12:27.11 Wow! 00:12:27.14\00:12:28.48 Which is, and I'm glad that you said that 00:12:28.51\00:12:30.35 because it's very interesting because that's also, 00:12:30.38\00:12:33.01 science is also something 00:12:33.05\00:12:34.48 that creates atheists that seems like. 00:12:34.52\00:12:38.82 Yeah, exactly. 00:12:38.85\00:12:40.19 And so, it's that that very thing 00:12:40.22\00:12:41.69 that pushes people away or they try to, right, 00:12:41.72\00:12:44.56 is what draw me in because when I say, 00:12:44.59\00:12:46.70 what I saw is that science is like is explaining 00:12:46.73\00:12:48.76 the details of God's power. 00:12:48.80\00:12:50.40 It's showing us the complexity, the beauty, the deepness, 00:12:50.43\00:12:53.90 the profoundness. 00:12:53.94\00:12:55.27 Everything has a purpose, everything is ordered. 00:12:55.30\00:12:56.71 There's nothing as random. 00:12:56.74\00:12:58.37 Everything is in the system, and that made me 00:12:58.41\00:13:01.28 and then I started to study the universe 00:13:01.31\00:13:03.18 and who'll forget it. 00:13:03.21\00:13:04.81 It just opened up this whole world 00:13:04.85\00:13:06.21 and I said, you know what? 00:13:06.25\00:13:07.58 There has to be a supernatural being in the universe. 00:13:07.62\00:13:11.42 And, of course, I didn't think it was the Christian God 00:13:11.45\00:13:14.46 because remember I already had that 00:13:14.49\00:13:15.82 experience that He was going to burn. 00:13:15.86\00:13:17.19 So I said, you know what? 00:13:17.23\00:13:18.56 I don't want anything to do with that Christian God, 00:13:18.59\00:13:19.93 but I know there's something out there. 00:13:19.96\00:13:21.33 And that really started to drive me, 00:13:21.36\00:13:23.10 to push to find that supernatural being that 00:13:23.13\00:13:25.87 had created all things 00:13:25.90\00:13:28.10 where everything had originated 00:13:28.14\00:13:29.84 and so back then get me 00:13:29.87\00:13:31.21 to start to study religion, philosophy. 00:13:31.24\00:13:35.28 I studied a lot of Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, 00:13:35.31\00:13:40.02 a lot of philosophy, you know, 00:13:40.05\00:13:41.38 philosophy doesn't answer any questions. 00:13:41.42\00:13:42.75 It just gives you more questions. 00:13:42.78\00:13:44.69 And so, that started that voyage towards 00:13:44.72\00:13:47.42 that path of looking for the deity, right? 00:13:47.46\00:13:50.43 The supernatural being. 00:13:50.46\00:13:52.23 So how did you, how did you hone in 00:13:52.26\00:13:55.16 on Christianity again, 00:13:55.20\00:13:57.07 like how did you end up finding Christ 00:13:57.10\00:13:59.63 because It seems like 00:13:59.67\00:14:01.00 once you start studying all of those, 00:14:01.04\00:14:03.04 it's kind of like going down a rabbit hole, right? 00:14:03.07\00:14:05.14 So like, you've got Buddhism, 00:14:05.17\00:14:07.61 Islam, all of these other religions, 00:14:07.64\00:14:11.48 but how did you end up landing back on Christianity? 00:14:11.51\00:14:17.22 Well, like you said, 00:14:17.25\00:14:19.09 I was searching for purpose for me. 00:14:19.12\00:14:21.89 And when I was reading all of these other religions, 00:14:21.92\00:14:23.83 I noticed that it was not, it was not filling me, right? 00:14:23.86\00:14:26.59 It was not giving me the answers I was looking for. 00:14:26.63\00:14:28.53 So, I mean, I know we don't have a lot of time, 00:14:28.56\00:14:31.83 I could go into details of why each one of these 00:14:31.87\00:14:34.20 belief systems did not fulfill my search, 00:14:34.24\00:14:39.51 but then one day I came across a book on, 00:14:39.54\00:14:41.91 I remember, I have it, 00:14:41.94\00:14:43.28 I still have it in my library in Puerto Rico, 00:14:43.31\00:14:46.35 it was on Socrates, 00:14:46.38\00:14:47.72 Aristotle, Plato and Jesus Christ. 00:14:47.75\00:14:51.19 And so I bought this book not because of Jesus, 00:14:51.22\00:14:53.36 but because of the other four, the other three, I'm sorry, 00:14:53.39\00:14:55.79 and so after I had read through it, 00:14:55.82\00:14:57.73 I said, might as well finish the book and read about Jesus 00:14:57.76\00:15:00.46 And so this book, that's, what it talked about Jesus, 00:15:00.50\00:15:02.93 it was very interesting because it looked at Jesus 00:15:02.96\00:15:04.83 from a historical perspective, right? 00:15:04.87\00:15:07.37 And so, when I read the book 00:15:07.40\00:15:08.84 two things stuck out, number one, 00:15:08.87\00:15:10.87 it talked about, it gave extra biblical evidence 00:15:10.91\00:15:13.41 to the existence of Jesus Christ 00:15:13.44\00:15:15.04 and the confirming the accounts 00:15:15.08\00:15:17.21 that were mentioned in the gospels. 00:15:17.25\00:15:19.21 Now, before that, I had thought that 00:15:19.25\00:15:20.58 Jesus was just, you know, a myth, 00:15:20.62\00:15:22.28 cool guy that maybe lived in the Middle East, 00:15:22.32\00:15:24.09 and they kind of exaggerated 00:15:24.12\00:15:25.45 some of the things that they do sometimes 00:15:25.49\00:15:26.92 with other historical figures. 00:15:26.96\00:15:29.22 But when it said very clearly that He had gone through 00:15:29.26\00:15:31.76 those things and that He had died on the cross, 00:15:31.79\00:15:33.80 you know, immediately into my mind, 00:15:33.83\00:15:35.16 Brother, it came to my mind, 00:15:35.20\00:15:36.53 why would somebody go through that? 00:15:36.56\00:15:37.90 Yes, yes. 00:15:37.93\00:15:39.60 If He was a fake, why would He go through that 00:15:39.63\00:15:42.74 because as soon as, let's be honest, 00:15:42.77\00:15:45.07 as soon as a Roman whips you first time 00:15:45.11\00:15:48.54 if you're not, if you're not the real deal, 00:15:48.58\00:15:50.01 you're out of there. 00:15:50.05\00:15:51.38 I'm not going to put up with this. 00:15:51.41\00:15:52.75 I'm not going to take this. 00:15:52.78\00:15:54.62 And so that made me think and the other thing 00:15:54.65\00:15:56.15 that made me think was the disciples, 00:15:56.18\00:15:57.65 the disciples were all cowards. 00:15:57.69\00:15:59.09 They fled, but then when you see the account 00:15:59.12\00:16:01.29 after the resurrection 00:16:01.32\00:16:02.66 that like they all died as martyrs. 00:16:02.69\00:16:04.03 So something happened there that really caught my attention 00:16:04.06\00:16:06.96 and really started to get me thinking. 00:16:07.00\00:16:08.86 But then the other thing that caught my attention was that 00:16:08.90\00:16:10.63 it said in that book, 00:16:10.67\00:16:12.20 it said that the Sermon on the Mount 00:16:12.23\00:16:13.57 is the greatest speech ever pronounced in human history. 00:16:13.60\00:16:17.17 And so I said, "Whoa, wait a minute." 00:16:17.21\00:16:19.54 I love, I love. You know, I love politics. 00:16:19.57\00:16:21.44 I love to read speeches, and I said, 00:16:21.48\00:16:22.88 I'm going to read that speech if it's the greatest ever. 00:16:22.91\00:16:25.58 So, Brother Bradley for the first time in my life, 00:16:25.61\00:16:28.88 I grabbed the Bible on my own accord. 00:16:28.92\00:16:30.95 And I opened it to Matthew Chapter 5, 6, and 7, 00:16:30.99\00:16:33.76 and I read the Sermon on the Mount. 00:16:33.79\00:16:35.12 Wow. 00:16:35.16\00:16:36.49 And something just came over me, 00:16:36.52\00:16:38.29 this peace that I can't explain. 00:16:38.33\00:16:40.96 It just overwhelmed me is the word, 00:16:41.00\00:16:42.60 it overwhelmed me. 00:16:42.63\00:16:43.97 Yes, yes. Amen. 00:16:44.00\00:16:46.80 You had a powerful transformation 00:16:46.84\00:16:49.44 right there, powerful conversion experience. 00:16:49.47\00:16:52.04 What led you 00:16:52.07\00:16:53.41 to the Seventh-day Adventist Church? 00:16:53.44\00:16:57.38 So as I was overwhelmed with that, 00:16:57.41\00:17:00.32 with that feeling of after reading the, 00:17:00.35\00:17:02.18 you know, the Sermon on the Mount, 00:17:02.22\00:17:04.02 I said, "I don't know what this is, 00:17:04.05\00:17:05.39 but I want to keep this up." 00:17:05.42\00:17:07.06 And so I decided to continue to read. 00:17:07.09\00:17:09.32 I said, I'm going to read the Bible, right? 00:17:09.36\00:17:11.26 I'm going to read the New Testament. 00:17:11.29\00:17:12.63 I didn't want to go into the Old Testament, 00:17:12.66\00:17:14.00 because the Old Testament, you know, 00:17:14.03\00:17:15.36 the concept is that the Father's over there. 00:17:15.40\00:17:16.90 He's whipping people, He's burning, right? 00:17:16.93\00:17:19.93 And then He sends His son with mercy. 00:17:19.97\00:17:22.27 So that's the concept that I had too. 00:17:22.30\00:17:24.27 And so I said, I'm not going to deal 00:17:24.31\00:17:25.64 with the Father, right? 00:17:25.67\00:17:27.01 The Father, I can't understand it. 00:17:27.04\00:17:28.38 I said, I'm going to focus on Jesus 00:17:28.41\00:17:29.74 because I can understand Him. 00:17:29.78\00:17:31.21 And so from that moment on, I decided to start reading 00:17:31.25\00:17:33.48 one chapter of the New Testament a day. 00:17:33.52\00:17:35.95 And as that little by little as I continue to read 00:17:35.98\00:17:38.32 and read and read, Jesus was just man, 00:17:38.35\00:17:40.56 He was just like, luring me in, Brother. 00:17:40.59\00:17:43.73 He was just luring me in, and the closer I got to Him 00:17:43.76\00:17:47.60 without noticing, unconsciously, 00:17:47.63\00:17:49.56 the further I was moving away from the ways of the world. 00:17:49.60\00:17:52.50 I wasn't drinking as much, 00:17:52.53\00:17:54.04 I wasn't smoking as much, drugs. 00:17:54.07\00:17:56.30 All of those things were starting 00:17:56.34\00:17:57.67 to diminish little by little as I got closer to Him and so, 00:17:57.71\00:18:01.24 it got to a point where He just grabbed me. 00:18:01.28\00:18:03.11 And I said, you know what? He was filling my heart. 00:18:03.14\00:18:05.35 He was giving me reason 00:18:05.38\00:18:06.72 and purpose even though in my, you know, 00:18:06.75\00:18:08.08 in my beginner stage of understanding Christianity, 00:18:08.12\00:18:12.05 and I said, "You know what? 00:18:12.09\00:18:13.42 I'm going to be a Christian." 00:18:13.46\00:18:14.79 I said, I'm going to be a Christian. 00:18:14.82\00:18:16.16 And so from that point on then the question is, 00:18:16.19\00:18:20.50 well, what church do I go to, right? 00:18:20.53\00:18:24.33 So the same process now, first from 00:18:24.37\00:18:27.64 with all the religions of the world. 00:18:27.67\00:18:29.30 Now the process was okay, I want to be a Christian. 00:18:29.34\00:18:31.81 What church am I going to go to? 00:18:31.84\00:18:33.48 And so again, since I didn't know, 00:18:33.51\00:18:35.24 all I knew was Catholicism. 00:18:35.28\00:18:37.98 I've never been to any other church. 00:18:38.01\00:18:39.51 So I said, you know what? 00:18:39.55\00:18:40.88 I'm just going to start visiting 00:18:40.92\00:18:42.25 every church that I find, and that's exactly what I did. 00:18:42.28\00:18:45.22 I would go to church, man, three, four times a day. 00:18:45.25\00:18:48.36 Different churches. Yeah. 00:18:48.39\00:18:50.73 And a lot of people were telling me, 00:18:50.76\00:18:52.39 "Oh, you're so confused. 00:18:52.43\00:18:54.50 You're losing your mind." 00:18:54.53\00:18:55.86 I'm like, "No," I'm like, how do you... 00:18:55.90\00:18:58.47 I said, "You must be confused, 00:18:58.50\00:19:00.07 because you've been in your church, 00:19:00.10\00:19:01.94 you've been in the church that they raised you 00:19:01.97\00:19:03.47 your whole life, how do you know that 00:19:03.51\00:19:04.84 they're not lying to you? 00:19:04.87\00:19:06.21 How did you know that 00:19:06.24\00:19:07.58 they're not telling you the truth?" 00:19:07.61\00:19:08.94 You don't know until you compare 00:19:08.98\00:19:10.31 what other people are saying about the Bible, 00:19:10.35\00:19:12.05 why are there so many denominations, right? 00:19:12.08\00:19:14.42 And so that began my journey in Christianity. 00:19:14.45\00:19:17.09 And that also took a number, a couple of years, 00:19:17.12\00:19:20.12 as I was doing that, 00:19:20.16\00:19:21.49 and then one day I was on an airplane. 00:19:21.52\00:19:23.06 I remember like it was yesterday, 00:19:23.09\00:19:24.43 I was on an airplane from Tampa to Puerto Rico. 00:19:24.46\00:19:28.70 I'm sorry, the other way around, 00:19:28.73\00:19:30.07 from Puerto Rico to Tampa, right? 00:19:30.10\00:19:31.93 And next to me sat this gentleman, 00:19:31.97\00:19:35.07 very interesting gentleman, he was African. 00:19:35.10\00:19:37.57 He had an Egyptian beard, tailor made shoes. 00:19:37.61\00:19:40.08 I mean, the guy was, he was tight. 00:19:40.11\00:19:41.74 He was on his game. 00:19:41.78\00:19:43.75 And when we started talking, 00:19:43.78\00:19:45.91 he was, we talked about religion 00:19:45.95\00:19:47.72 and the flight's like about three and a half hours. 00:19:47.75\00:19:49.72 And the whole time we're talking about religion 00:19:49.75\00:19:51.85 and all this and it was a great conversation 00:19:51.89\00:19:53.86 and he was like, you know what? 00:19:53.89\00:19:55.22 I can see you're a sincere seeker of God. 00:19:55.26\00:19:57.29 And he told me, he said, you know what? 00:19:57.33\00:19:58.73 I believe that the Seventh-day Adventist are the closest ones 00:19:58.76\00:20:02.06 to the truth to the Bible truth. 00:20:02.10\00:20:06.10 And I was like Seventh-day. 00:20:06.13\00:20:07.47 I know I had visited a lot of churches, 00:20:07.50\00:20:09.77 but I had never visited 00:20:09.80\00:20:11.14 the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:20:11.17\00:20:12.51 I didn't even knew it, 00:20:12.54\00:20:13.88 it didn't even fall on my head who they were. 00:20:13.91\00:20:16.08 And so that's how that started. 00:20:16.11\00:20:18.65 And so, as soon as I'm sorry, you're going to say something? 00:20:18.68\00:20:21.18 Yeah, no, I was just going to say, 00:20:21.22\00:20:22.68 you know, it's interesting how you got on that flight. 00:20:22.72\00:20:24.99 I don't believe that things happen by coincidence, 00:20:25.02\00:20:28.19 it's divine providence. 00:20:28.22\00:20:29.72 And so, that's amazing that you sat next to that guy. 00:20:29.76\00:20:34.33 Amen. Amen. 00:20:34.36\00:20:35.70 And I don't even know 00:20:35.73\00:20:37.07 if he was Seventh-day Adventist. 00:20:37.10\00:20:38.43 He gave me his card. 00:20:38.47\00:20:39.80 And I called him and said, hey, let's get together. 00:20:39.83\00:20:41.57 And I called him later, never answered. 00:20:41.60\00:20:43.64 So you know, some people say maybe 00:20:43.67\00:20:45.37 it was an angel and I'm like, I don't know. 00:20:45.41\00:20:46.78 That would be incredible. Yeah. 00:20:46.81\00:20:49.14 Yeah, that would be cool. We'll see. 00:20:49.18\00:20:51.45 We'll find out in the millennium. 00:20:51.48\00:20:52.81 But that, when I saw, when I got back to Puerto Rico 00:20:52.85\00:20:57.79 after that, uh, I started to investigate 00:20:57.82\00:21:01.42 the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:21:01.46\00:21:02.79 and so I had a friend 00:21:02.82\00:21:04.16 that I remember I used to play basketball, 00:21:04.19\00:21:05.53 and baseball, and track and field. 00:21:05.56\00:21:07.76 So I had a friend that he never participated 00:21:07.80\00:21:09.46 in any events on Sabbath on Saturdays. 00:21:09.50\00:21:13.20 And so, and I had another friend 00:21:13.23\00:21:14.57 that used to work with me, 00:21:14.60\00:21:15.94 and he didn't work on Saturdays either. 00:21:15.97\00:21:17.31 So I just asked him, "Hey, I want to go to the church." 00:21:17.34\00:21:19.67 And he's like, ah, you know, 00:21:19.71\00:21:21.51 I'm not, I don't want to go because he had left the church. 00:21:21.54\00:21:24.71 But I came across his father who was an elder in the church. 00:21:24.75\00:21:28.15 And I told him, I said, "Hey, 00:21:28.18\00:21:29.65 you're this guy's father, aren't you?" 00:21:29.68\00:21:31.02 He's like, "Yeah." 00:21:31.05\00:21:32.39 I said, "I want to go visit 00:21:32.42\00:21:33.76 the Seventh-day Adventist Church." 00:21:33.79\00:21:35.12 He's like, "Hey, so come on." 00:21:35.16\00:21:36.49 So he invited me to show up on Wednesday, 00:21:36.52\00:21:37.86 it was about five minutes from my house in Puerto Rico. 00:21:37.89\00:21:40.46 And I went and I'm telling you the truth, 00:21:40.50\00:21:42.40 Brother, you know how those Wednesday services are, 00:21:42.43\00:21:44.17 there are not a lot of people go, you know. 00:21:44.20\00:21:46.33 Uh-huh, prayer meeting, yep. Uh-huh. 00:21:46.37\00:21:49.44 My church in Puerto Rico specifically was like a little, 00:21:49.47\00:21:52.21 it was little like a retirement home, 00:21:52.24\00:21:55.21 all old people. 00:21:55.24\00:21:57.35 The lady was, the lady that was singing, 00:21:57.38\00:21:59.81 you know, I wish she couldn't sing too well. 00:21:59.85\00:22:02.58 And you know, I'm coming from clubs and parties. 00:22:02.62\00:22:04.82 And I'm like, this is like a funeral. 00:22:04.85\00:22:06.65 What's going on here? But you know what? 00:22:06.69\00:22:11.43 I got there and this lady came to me. 00:22:11.46\00:22:12.89 She says, "Oh, you know, if you come on Saturdays, 00:22:12.93\00:22:14.36 there's more young people, there's more people out." 00:22:14.40\00:22:16.36 And I looked at her in her eyes, 00:22:16.40\00:22:17.73 and I said, "Listen, 00:22:17.77\00:22:19.10 if I was looking for young people 00:22:19.13\00:22:20.47 and trying to entertain myself, 00:22:20.50\00:22:21.84 I would be in a bar and club right now." 00:22:21.87\00:22:23.51 I said, "I don't care about all of those things. 00:22:23.54\00:22:24.87 I'm looking for Christ." 00:22:24.91\00:22:26.24 And so God knew exactly where He put me. 00:22:26.27\00:22:29.94 And the sermon that night, 00:22:29.98\00:22:31.31 I remember it was a, it touched my heart. 00:22:31.35\00:22:34.65 And I said, you know what? 00:22:34.68\00:22:36.02 I like these Seventh-day Adventists, 00:22:36.05\00:22:37.39 they're little weird, they're little odd. 00:22:37.42\00:22:39.59 But I'm going to continue to come, 00:22:39.62\00:22:42.39 I like how they preach the Word of God. 00:22:42.42\00:22:43.89 I like how they, you know, 00:22:43.93\00:22:45.79 everything else wasn't impressive, 00:22:45.83\00:22:47.26 but the Word of God was impressive to me. 00:22:47.30\00:22:49.23 And so as I began to go, you know, 00:22:49.26\00:22:51.97 I started to get, I didn't stop going 00:22:52.00\00:22:53.74 to the other churches. 00:22:53.77\00:22:55.10 But that's how I came to know 00:22:55.14\00:22:57.04 the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:22:57.07\00:22:58.51 Wow, that's incredible. Praise the Lord. 00:22:58.54\00:23:01.28 Now, let's talk about what you're doing now. 00:23:01.31\00:23:04.41 Tell us a little bit about being the AFCOE Director. 00:23:04.45\00:23:08.18 First off, what does AFCOE stand for? 00:23:08.22\00:23:11.69 All right. 00:23:11.72\00:23:13.05 AFCOE is the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism. 00:23:13.09\00:23:16.59 And so, I got baptized in 2008. 00:23:16.62\00:23:20.86 In New York City, in Puerto Rico, I'm sorry. 00:23:20.90\00:23:23.00 Then I moved to New York City, I was there for five years. 00:23:23.03\00:23:25.50 And then I decided to go to AFCOE, right, 00:23:25.53\00:23:27.10 which is to serve. 00:23:27.14\00:23:28.94 Amazing Facts has three to four-month course, 00:23:28.97\00:23:31.47 what's evangelism training, how to do evangelism. 00:23:31.51\00:23:33.91 And so I came to this course thinking, 00:23:33.94\00:23:35.31 "Okay, I'm going to go to this course and you know, 00:23:35.34\00:23:36.85 I'm going to, I'm going to get to see Pastor Doug Batchelor 00:23:36.88\00:23:40.85 and read all the Amazing Facts." 00:23:40.88\00:23:42.88 And I was already giving an offering to the ministry. 00:23:42.92\00:23:46.15 And when I got here, they didn't let me go. 00:23:46.19\00:23:50.23 They said, "Brother, what are your plans?" 00:23:50.26\00:23:51.59 And I'm like, "You know, 00:23:51.63\00:23:52.96 I might still do this and go study masters and this." 00:23:52.99\00:23:55.10 And they were like, "No, we want you to stay with us." 00:23:55.13\00:23:57.17 And so that's how they asked me to become an associate speaker. 00:23:57.20\00:24:00.57 So I'm also the bilingual 00:24:00.60\00:24:01.94 associate speaker for the ministry. 00:24:01.97\00:24:03.61 And I did that for five years. 00:24:03.64\00:24:04.97 And then after five years, 00:24:05.01\00:24:06.91 Pastor Doug and Pastor John Ross asked me 00:24:06.94\00:24:09.41 if I was interested in becoming the AFCOE Director. 00:24:09.44\00:24:13.01 And so I was like, whoo, couldn't wait. 00:24:13.05\00:24:15.78 That was a... That's a huge responsibility. 00:24:15.82\00:24:18.69 Yeah. 00:24:18.72\00:24:20.39 Yeah, indeed, we had talked about maybe starting, 00:24:20.42\00:24:23.56 because you know, we have different AFCOE schools 00:24:23.59\00:24:26.23 in different parts of the world. 00:24:26.26\00:24:27.83 We have in Africa and Asia. 00:24:27.86\00:24:29.90 And so we had talked about, 00:24:29.93\00:24:31.33 I had already dabbled about the interest 00:24:31.37\00:24:33.37 that I had in opening an AFCOE for in Latin America, 00:24:33.40\00:24:36.30 we don't have any presence in Latin America. 00:24:36.34\00:24:39.07 So we had talked a little bit about it, 00:24:39.11\00:24:40.48 but never in my wildest dreams 00:24:40.51\00:24:42.14 were they ever going to tell me, 00:24:42.18\00:24:43.51 "Hey, you want to come?" 00:24:43.55\00:24:44.88 Come join us for 00:24:44.91\00:24:46.98 and direct the ministry headquarters 00:24:47.02\00:24:50.39 here in Roseville so. 00:24:50.42\00:24:52.19 That's, yeah, that's incredible. 00:24:52.22\00:24:55.46 What can someone expect from AFCOE like if, 00:24:55.49\00:24:59.09 if somebody wants to go to take the classes, 00:24:59.13\00:25:01.90 what can they expect? 00:25:01.93\00:25:04.80 You know, a lot of people think that 00:25:04.83\00:25:06.97 sometimes they say AFCOE's theology. 00:25:07.00\00:25:08.80 Now you want to go theology, 00:25:08.84\00:25:10.17 you can go to, you know, go to study theology go. 00:25:10.21\00:25:13.01 You have a number of other schools 00:25:13.04\00:25:14.38 that focus theology. 00:25:14.41\00:25:15.74 What AFCOE is about is taking people 00:25:15.78\00:25:17.38 that have a desire to dedicate their lives 00:25:17.41\00:25:19.41 to serving God in whatever different ways 00:25:19.45\00:25:21.55 whether it be Bible working, public evangelism, preaching, 00:25:21.58\00:25:26.05 starting your own ministry. 00:25:26.09\00:25:27.42 And so what you do here is we, 00:25:27.46\00:25:29.19 when I came, right, I didn't know what I was, 00:25:29.22\00:25:30.56 I wanted to do, 00:25:30.59\00:25:31.93 I knew I wanted to work in ministry. 00:25:31.96\00:25:33.43 And so it comes here and it gives you a sense, 00:25:33.46\00:25:35.20 it gives you direction and says, listen, 00:25:35.23\00:25:36.56 these are all the... 00:25:36.60\00:25:38.33 AFCOE's like a platform where you can come 00:25:38.37\00:25:40.34 and you can see where is God wants to guide you. 00:25:40.37\00:25:43.47 What does God wants to do and you find a mission purpose. 00:25:43.51\00:25:46.61 And then you hold on to that and to that mission, 00:25:46.64\00:25:48.88 so we train you and prepare you. 00:25:48.91\00:25:50.71 Yes, there is theology involved, 00:25:50.75\00:25:52.08 but it's, you know, 00:25:52.11\00:25:53.45 you should already have at least a basic understanding 00:25:53.48\00:25:55.55 of what we believe when you come here, 00:25:55.58\00:25:58.55 because here it's about hands on ministry, 00:25:58.59\00:26:01.02 is how to do the work, how to you know, 00:26:01.06\00:26:03.02 knocking on doors, how to get Bible studies, 00:26:03.06\00:26:05.76 how to start, how to get, 00:26:05.79\00:26:07.20 how to organize a prophecy seminar 00:26:07.23\00:26:10.70 or evangelistic campaign, 00:26:10.73\00:26:13.00 how to make appeals, how to preach, 00:26:13.03\00:26:15.40 everything that has to do 00:26:15.44\00:26:16.77 with winning souls and nurturing, 00:26:16.81\00:26:18.14 and helping you to learn how to train 00:26:18.17\00:26:19.84 and prepare other people also 00:26:19.87\00:26:21.58 to do the work so, you know, go back to your local church 00:26:21.61\00:26:24.01 and start your own local ministry in your church 00:26:24.05\00:26:26.25 and let's, you know, get that evangelistic fire 00:26:26.28\00:26:31.79 into the fiber of your church too so... 00:26:31.82\00:26:34.69 Absolutely. 00:26:34.72\00:26:36.06 There's so many ways, it opens your eyes to see 00:26:36.09\00:26:38.99 all the ways that you can develop 00:26:39.03\00:26:41.30 and dedicate your life to the Lord. 00:26:41.33\00:26:43.67 That's great.
