So let's start with you, Brock. 00:01:00.39\00:01:02.39 Sure. 00:01:02.42\00:01:03.89 I'm a nurse and a paramedic. Okay. 00:01:03.93\00:01:05.86 And it's been just a blessing 00:01:05.89\00:01:08.26 to be able to work in times of disaster 00:01:08.30\00:01:10.23 to help and serve people. 00:01:10.27\00:01:11.60 And yeah, Kory here 00:01:11.63\00:01:13.90 has been my longtime partner and friends. 00:01:13.94\00:01:16.04 So it's just great to be here. 00:01:16.07\00:01:17.61 Nice. Nice. 00:01:17.64\00:01:18.97 And tell me a little bit about you, Kory? 00:01:19.01\00:01:20.58 Well, I recently left teaching 00:01:20.61\00:01:23.68 and search and rescue position with Grand County 00:01:23.71\00:01:28.18 Search and Rescue in Moab, Utah. 00:01:28.22\00:01:29.68 And now focusing my time 00:01:29.72\00:01:31.89 and energy on Gideon Rescue Company, 00:01:31.92\00:01:34.26 and doing disaster response. 00:01:34.29\00:01:36.76 Wow. Wow. 00:01:36.79\00:01:38.13 So what was childhood like for you guys? 00:01:38.16\00:01:40.30 Like were you raised in the church, Brock? 00:01:40.33\00:01:43.53 Yeah, we both were actually. 00:01:43.57\00:01:45.10 So, we've come from 00:01:45.13\00:01:47.50 a Seventh-day Adventist background for sure. 00:01:47.54\00:01:50.21 But I mean, full of life, energy, adventure, 00:01:50.24\00:01:53.68 all the fun things, you know. 00:01:53.71\00:01:55.34 Yeah. 00:01:55.38\00:01:56.75 Well, very similar. 00:01:56.78\00:01:59.01 You know, as a young man 00:01:59.05\00:02:00.38 I never really decided for Christ 00:02:00.42\00:02:02.48 and when you don't decide for it's, 00:02:02.52\00:02:04.75 you know, the default is not with Him, 00:02:04.79\00:02:07.42 so I pursued my own pleasures 00:02:07.46\00:02:09.86 for quite a while and after attaining 00:02:09.89\00:02:12.69 what I thought I wanted, 00:02:12.73\00:02:14.06 which was an outdoors lifestyle, 00:02:14.10\00:02:16.26 and downhill mountain biking, and skiing and stuff. 00:02:16.30\00:02:18.83 I thought I would be happy with that and I wasn't. 00:02:18.87\00:02:22.10 I have found life with Christ much more rewarding. 00:02:22.14\00:02:25.37 Amen. Amen. 00:02:25.41\00:02:27.34 And so what brought about that 00:02:27.38\00:02:30.48 shift though in your life? 00:02:30.51\00:02:33.45 Actually, it was, you know, Gideon Rescue Company 00:02:33.48\00:02:36.65 played an important role in my decision, 00:02:36.69\00:02:39.99 because the first trip they went on 00:02:40.02\00:02:42.86 was the Haiti earthquake in 2010. 00:02:42.89\00:02:45.66 And they came back with stories of how God made 00:02:45.69\00:02:49.76 the impossible workout as we are a humble team, small, 00:02:49.80\00:02:55.37 we're not the Red Cross, you know, we're not, 00:02:55.40\00:02:57.87 I don't know the UN teams or whatever. 00:02:57.91\00:03:00.28 And to see that God 00:03:00.31\00:03:02.91 took a personal interest in their life 00:03:02.94\00:03:05.41 and made their little mission trip, 00:03:05.45\00:03:07.88 really work well, against all odds, 00:03:07.92\00:03:10.39 in an impossible disaster situation 00:03:10.42\00:03:13.05 had a big impact on me. 00:03:13.09\00:03:14.99 Amen. Amen. 00:03:15.02\00:03:16.76 So what is the Gideon Rescue Company? 00:03:16.79\00:03:21.63 You know, it's really just a group of young guys 00:03:21.66\00:03:25.07 that have come together and said, you know, 00:03:25.10\00:03:27.04 we want to be able to serve in times of disaster, 00:03:27.07\00:03:30.97 with the different skills that we've been blessed with, 00:03:31.01\00:03:33.17 not only to offer physical hand, 00:03:33.21\00:03:35.58 but also really more importantly 00:03:35.61\00:03:36.95 to offer a spiritual hand 00:03:36.98\00:03:38.71 when people need, you know, that kind of support. 00:03:38.75\00:03:42.92 Yes, yes. 00:03:42.95\00:03:44.29 Yeah. How did you guys form the team? 00:03:44.32\00:03:47.46 Well, this is an outgrowth of our experience and training 00:03:47.49\00:03:50.39 at Union College. 00:03:50.43\00:03:51.76 So we both went to Union College 00:03:51.79\00:03:53.13 in Lincoln, Nebraska. 00:03:53.16\00:03:54.50 And it was a brand new degree program at that time, 00:03:54.53\00:03:56.46 International Rescue and Relief. 00:03:56.50\00:03:58.27 And it was an incredible degree because it was practical 00:03:58.30\00:04:01.90 and it was hands on. 00:04:01.94\00:04:03.34 And so young people flocked to this degree 00:04:03.37\00:04:05.74 from all over the world because like, wow, 00:04:05.77\00:04:07.31 I can do this with my education, 00:04:07.34\00:04:08.68 I can go and learn rescue skills 00:04:08.71\00:04:11.05 and I can go and, you know, 00:04:11.08\00:04:12.41 spend half my semester over or my full semester overseas, 00:04:12.45\00:04:15.28 you know, putting these things together. 00:04:15.32\00:04:16.85 And so that's where we actually first really met. 00:04:16.89\00:04:21.02 And all of that really was the vision 00:04:21.06\00:04:23.02 of Dr. Michael Duehrssen. 00:04:23.06\00:04:24.49 Okay. 00:04:24.53\00:04:25.86 And he had a burden for young people. 00:04:25.89\00:04:27.86 And his whole burden was, 00:04:27.90\00:04:30.13 as we see these disasters happening, 00:04:30.17\00:04:31.97 we should be more prepared as a church. 00:04:32.00\00:04:34.20 And there just was nothing out there 00:04:34.24\00:04:36.17 for training for young people. 00:04:36.20\00:04:37.54 So Lord laid a burden on his heart 00:04:37.57\00:04:39.47 to put together a program in which you would train 00:04:39.51\00:04:41.64 young people to be first responders 00:04:41.68\00:04:43.61 into the disaster scene, 00:04:43.65\00:04:45.31 but not just to be first responders, 00:04:45.35\00:04:46.82 more importantly to be gospel workers 00:04:46.85\00:04:49.65 to share the gospel 00:04:49.68\00:04:51.15 as they were being the helping hands 00:04:51.19\00:04:53.36 and feet of Jesus. 00:04:53.39\00:04:54.89 To meet people's mental, physical, 00:04:54.92\00:04:58.33 that's food and water, and spiritual needs. 00:04:58.36\00:05:00.13 Yeah. Treat the whole person. 00:05:00.16\00:05:02.86 And so that, really, we owe a lot of our experience 00:05:02.90\00:05:05.27 and where we're at today to that whole vision. 00:05:05.30\00:05:07.27 And so this is an outgrowth of that like we wanted 00:05:07.30\00:05:09.80 after we graduated to see, you know, Lord, 00:05:09.84\00:05:11.97 where would You take us next, like what? 00:05:12.01\00:05:13.48 How would you have us to continue 00:05:13.51\00:05:14.84 this type of opportunity in ministry? 00:05:14.88\00:05:16.21 Yes. 00:05:16.24\00:05:17.58 And it's been a crazy journey, but a blessing. 00:05:17.61\00:05:19.55 Wow. 00:05:19.58\00:05:20.92 So where does all this because you guys seem 00:05:20.95\00:05:23.02 very passionate about what you do? 00:05:23.05\00:05:25.52 Where does this passion stem from? 00:05:25.55\00:05:30.63 Man, you know, like Kory saying, 00:05:30.66\00:05:33.50 you know, in his experience where he had this reawakening, 00:05:33.53\00:05:37.27 this reconversion with Jesus, you know, 00:05:37.30\00:05:39.50 it's the same experience in my life 00:05:39.53\00:05:41.00 You know, I was raised 00:05:41.04\00:05:42.37 Seventh-day Adventist Christian, 00:05:42.40\00:05:43.77 attended Seventh-day Adventist Christian schools 00:05:43.81\00:05:45.57 my entire life and experience. 00:05:45.61\00:05:47.44 And yet, you know, I walked away 00:05:47.48\00:05:50.21 from what I had learned 00:05:50.25\00:05:51.58 and what I've been taught to live 00:05:51.61\00:05:52.95 a selfish existence in college, and I did my own thing, 00:05:52.98\00:05:56.25 and that was just, 00:05:56.28\00:05:58.05 it was just an empty experience. 00:05:58.09\00:05:59.42 I mean, I not only injured myself 00:05:59.45\00:06:01.29 but also harmed a lot of people around me. 00:06:01.32\00:06:03.09 And it was just like, man, like, 00:06:03.12\00:06:04.59 the Lord picked up all those pieces 00:06:04.63\00:06:06.23 and finally got through my thick skull 00:06:06.26\00:06:07.86 and said, "You know, 00:06:07.90\00:06:09.23 I have a purpose and a plan for you 00:06:09.26\00:06:10.60 if you would surrender." 00:06:10.63\00:06:12.63 And, so that's where it all began. 00:06:12.67\00:06:14.77 That was probably 2008. 00:06:14.80\00:06:17.87 And from that point forward, 00:06:17.91\00:06:19.37 the Lord has just opened up an incredible vision, 00:06:19.41\00:06:22.64 incredible plan more than I would have ever thought 00:06:22.68\00:06:26.15 or that I would ever settle for myself. 00:06:26.18\00:06:28.05 Yeah. And that's the way He works. 00:06:28.08\00:06:29.92 Yeah, He's definitely an amazing God. 00:06:29.95\00:06:32.82 Yeah. An amazing God. 00:06:32.85\00:06:35.22 So, all right, 00:06:35.26\00:06:36.59 so you're passionate about what you do. 00:06:36.62\00:06:38.06 You guys both went to school together 00:06:38.09\00:06:40.10 and all of that stuff. 00:06:40.13\00:06:41.46 It's amazing to me how God places, you know, 00:06:41.50\00:06:44.70 all the pieces together. 00:06:44.73\00:06:46.27 Right. Oh, yes. 00:06:46.30\00:06:47.90 Because, you know, when you were younger, 00:06:47.94\00:06:49.64 you probably never thought that 00:06:49.67\00:06:51.21 this is what you would be doing today. 00:06:51.24\00:06:52.84 No. 00:06:52.87\00:06:54.21 Yeah. Not at all. 00:06:54.24\00:06:55.58 I mean, we've been blessed to travel the world and go 00:06:55.61\00:06:58.35 and do things that we would never 00:06:58.38\00:07:01.12 have the opportunity to do without God, 00:07:01.15\00:07:04.45 never have the opportunities to serve and live the rich, 00:07:04.49\00:07:07.36 abundant life that you can have 00:07:07.39\00:07:11.06 when you're living for God and serving your fellowman. 00:07:11.09\00:07:14.20 Yes. Yeah. 00:07:14.23\00:07:15.56 And as a young person, I struggled with this concept 00:07:15.60\00:07:17.93 thinking that, you know, 00:07:17.97\00:07:19.70 ministry is confined to like pastoral work, 00:07:19.73\00:07:23.41 you know, and I was like, 00:07:23.44\00:07:24.77 "Oh, that's just for the pastors 00:07:24.81\00:07:26.14 and, Lord, I don't ever do that." 00:07:26.17\00:07:27.51 Like I wanna have an adventurous life. 00:07:27.54\00:07:28.98 I want to do things that are exciting and fun. 00:07:29.01\00:07:31.48 And here, God has just blown us out of the water. 00:07:31.51\00:07:34.32 I mean, there's never been a dull mission. 00:07:34.35\00:07:35.85 There's never been a dull moment. 00:07:35.88\00:07:37.35 You know, where it's like, the Lord has an incredible plan 00:07:37.39\00:07:39.95 if we would just trust Him, and ministry is about 00:07:39.99\00:07:42.72 having that ministry mindset, not about thinking that 00:07:42.76\00:07:45.86 it's confined to this line of work. 00:07:45.89\00:07:47.53 Yes. 00:07:47.56\00:07:48.90 And so that's been exciting to see 00:07:48.93\00:07:50.27 is that the Lord knows, He's created us. 00:07:50.30\00:07:52.07 He knows what makes us tick. Yeah. 00:07:52.10\00:07:53.47 And so, He is excited to give us everything 00:07:53.50\00:07:56.84 above and beyond with ever asked, think expect, 00:07:56.87\00:07:59.64 if we would just put our trust in Him, you know. 00:07:59.67\00:08:01.44 Yeah, well, speaking of these missions 00:08:01.48\00:08:04.85 and these exciting missions, 00:08:04.88\00:08:06.68 why don't you share a little bit 00:08:06.72\00:08:08.05 of some testimonies maybe have some missions 00:08:08.08\00:08:10.95 that you've been on? 00:08:10.99\00:08:13.05 Talk, where do we start, Kory, helicopters, planes? 00:08:13.09\00:08:16.93 Let's do the most recent one. 00:08:16.96\00:08:19.49 You know, we were planning a land based operation 00:08:19.53\00:08:21.96 for Hurricane Dorian. 00:08:22.00\00:08:23.33 It was expected to hit Florida. 00:08:23.37\00:08:25.27 And so we were driving there 00:08:25.30\00:08:26.87 with our specialized rescue boat, 00:08:26.90\00:08:28.47 the Creature Craft. 00:08:28.50\00:08:29.84 You probably have a picture of that. 00:08:29.87\00:08:31.21 The Creature Craft? 00:08:31.24\00:08:32.57 The Creature Craft, it's a rescue boat 00:08:32.61\00:08:33.98 that you get strapped into and you never have to swim 00:08:34.01\00:08:37.05 because you're strapped in 00:08:37.08\00:08:38.41 and it's got an inflatable roll cage. 00:08:38.45\00:08:39.78 It's inflatable, and that's the advantage, 00:08:39.81\00:08:41.55 is that. 00:08:41.58\00:08:42.92 And if you look this up like online on YouTube, 00:08:42.95\00:08:44.29 you look up Creature Craft videos. 00:08:44.32\00:08:45.89 This boat is running things 00:08:45.92\00:08:48.02 that they say are unrunnable on rivers, 00:08:48.06\00:08:49.86 you know, class five, class six type water 00:08:49.89\00:08:51.96 where it's just incredibly dangerous water, 00:08:51.99\00:08:53.86 but this craft is able to handle it 00:08:53.90\00:08:55.56 because the way that has been designed. 00:08:55.60\00:08:57.60 And so the Lord just blessed in granting us a boat, 00:08:57.63\00:09:01.90 in fact, our church, a local church, 00:09:01.94\00:09:03.84 the Ardmore Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:09:03.87\00:09:05.61 stepped out in faith and we kind of told them, 00:09:05.64\00:09:08.54 hey, this is a need that we have is a boat 00:09:08.58\00:09:10.85 and they actually purchased the boat. 00:09:10.88\00:09:13.18 So... Wow! 00:09:13.21\00:09:14.55 Praise the Lord. 00:09:14.58\00:09:15.92 And we have a relationship 00:09:15.95\00:09:17.29 with the manufacturer of the boat 00:09:17.32\00:09:18.65 so that we're actually doing 00:09:18.69\00:09:20.02 training with him in class five 00:09:20.06\00:09:21.39 and six water as far as 00:09:21.42\00:09:23.39 our teams needs to do that with him. 00:09:23.43\00:09:25.46 Explain what class five 00:09:25.49\00:09:26.90 and class six water, what is that? 00:09:26.93\00:09:28.76 Okay. 00:09:28.80\00:09:30.13 It's like moving water in a river, 00:09:30.17\00:09:32.13 but it's pretty calm and safe is one, 00:09:32.17\00:09:34.40 little bit of waves is basically class two. 00:09:34.44\00:09:36.27 Okay. 00:09:36.30\00:09:37.64 Waves, but not incredibly challenging 00:09:37.67\00:09:39.67 is class three. 00:09:39.71\00:09:41.34 Class four is getting to be very challenging 00:09:41.38\00:09:44.01 and some danger there. 00:09:44.05\00:09:46.41 Class five is like the limit of what is, 00:09:46.45\00:09:51.05 you can really do in a boat, 00:09:51.09\00:09:52.89 and then six is basically not possible. 00:09:52.92\00:09:55.39 So we're doing class five and six in these boats. 00:09:55.42\00:09:59.29 Wow. 00:09:59.33\00:10:00.66 So you guys are maxing out basically. 00:10:00.70\00:10:03.47 But it's due to the safety of the boat and that's, 00:10:03.50\00:10:05.27 you know, that's what we feel is important about it. 00:10:05.30\00:10:07.17 So I mean, the boat, just one, it's a tool like you know, 00:10:07.20\00:10:10.01 we don't put our trust and confidence in horses 00:10:10.04\00:10:12.37 or chariots, we put our trust and confidence in the Lord. 00:10:12.41\00:10:15.48 Amen. 00:10:15.51\00:10:16.85 And these boats and the skill sets that 00:10:16.88\00:10:18.71 we even own as a nurse and a paramedic and an ENT, 00:10:18.75\00:10:22.08 those are merely just tools that open doors 00:10:22.12\00:10:24.19 for greater opportunities to witness. 00:10:24.22\00:10:26.92 But I like that you mentioned the opportunities to witness. 00:10:26.96\00:10:30.29 Why do you think that, you know, in the time of crisis 00:10:30.33\00:10:34.16 is a great opportunity to witness? 00:10:34.20\00:10:36.77 That's such a great question, because, you know, 00:10:36.80\00:10:39.13 in pre hospital medicine, that's our field of specialty. 00:10:39.17\00:10:42.90 We have this... 00:10:42.94\00:10:44.37 Golden hour. This golden hour, right? 00:10:44.41\00:10:46.57 The golden hour and people heard about this, 00:10:46.61\00:10:48.41 the public knows the golden hour. 00:10:48.44\00:10:50.38 And it's the reason why we have fast ambulances, 00:10:50.41\00:10:52.48 it's the reason we have fast helicopters 00:10:52.51\00:10:53.85 because we recognize that 00:10:53.88\00:10:55.22 from the time an accident occurs, 00:10:55.25\00:10:56.58 an injury occurs, that the clock is ticking 00:10:56.62\00:10:58.82 in which we can take that person 00:10:58.85\00:11:00.19 and get them to definitive care 00:11:00.22\00:11:02.09 so that we can save life and limb. 00:11:02.12\00:11:04.59 But what's amazing is that this same principle exists 00:11:04.63\00:11:08.63 in the spiritual realm. 00:11:08.66\00:11:10.37 And it doesn't actually necessarily mean 00:11:10.40\00:11:11.73 the natural disaster either. 00:11:11.77\00:11:13.10 I mean, it could be a death of a friend, 00:11:13.13\00:11:14.47 it could be a financial crisis that somebody's going through, 00:11:14.50\00:11:16.54 the moment that somebody encounters a crisis 00:11:16.57\00:11:19.54 or disaster in their lives, the clock starts ticking 00:11:19.57\00:11:23.24 in which they're in need 00:11:23.28\00:11:24.61 not only a physical help perhaps, 00:11:24.65\00:11:26.41 but even more importantly of spiritual help and guidance, 00:11:26.45\00:11:29.35 and they're open. 00:11:29.38\00:11:30.72 Yeah. 00:11:30.75\00:11:32.29 Yeah, it's interesting, because it seems like, 00:11:32.32\00:11:35.19 you know, in the time of a crisis or tragedy, 00:11:35.22\00:11:38.19 people either draw closer to God 00:11:38.23\00:11:40.36 or they blame Him and they end up 00:11:40.40\00:11:43.47 going further away. 00:11:43.50\00:11:44.83 It's very true. 00:11:44.87\00:11:46.20 What do you guys say to that individual that is, you know, 00:11:46.23\00:11:50.67 blaming God for tragedy? 00:11:50.71\00:11:55.18 That's such a big question that you see a lot, you know. 00:11:55.21\00:11:57.75 If we serve a such a great God, 00:11:57.78\00:12:00.92 then why is it that we see such great tragedy 00:12:00.95\00:12:03.85 and adversity in the world around us? 00:12:03.89\00:12:06.96 And I'll be honest, it's not an easy, 00:12:06.99\00:12:09.02 it's not an easy answer. 00:12:09.06\00:12:11.96 But biblically speaking, 00:12:11.99\00:12:13.40 we have an incredible foundation. 00:12:13.43\00:12:15.36 Because when you look at the Bible 00:12:15.40\00:12:17.87 from beginning to end, 00:12:17.90\00:12:19.23 what you see is this controversy 00:12:19.27\00:12:21.84 that is waging between good and between evil, 00:12:21.87\00:12:23.64 between Christ and between Satan. 00:12:23.67\00:12:26.17 And you begin to recognize that God is not the author of evil, 00:12:26.21\00:12:30.25 but that He is the one who wants to save us, 00:12:30.28\00:12:33.72 and be our rescuer, if we would be willing. 00:12:33.75\00:12:36.69 And so when you start to enter this conversation, 00:12:36.72\00:12:38.59 people don't, you know, they don't think about 00:12:38.62\00:12:40.29 from that perspective, and especially 00:12:40.32\00:12:42.66 when you start to talk about Job 00:12:42.69\00:12:44.33 or you talk about some of these other, you know, 00:12:44.36\00:12:46.19 examples in the Bible. 00:12:46.23\00:12:47.56 I mean, they just, it's like, wow, like, 00:12:47.60\00:12:49.63 maybe there is a controversy raging. 00:12:49.66\00:12:51.73 Maybe that's why 00:12:51.77\00:12:53.10 we're seeing such things happen. 00:12:53.13\00:12:55.54 Yes. 00:12:55.57\00:12:56.91 And not only that, I mean, you know, 00:12:56.94\00:12:58.27 like the world is rapidly changing. 00:12:58.31\00:13:00.31 We're seeing disasters on an unprecedented level. 00:13:00.34\00:13:03.95 And people recognize it, 00:13:03.98\00:13:05.31 even if they're not Bible students, 00:13:05.35\00:13:06.68 they recognize something is different 00:13:06.72\00:13:08.85 about the world in which we live. 00:13:08.88\00:13:10.22 Absolutely. 00:13:10.25\00:13:11.59 And so, as Seventh-day Adventist Christians, 00:13:11.62\00:13:12.95 we have an incredible message that answers those questions. 00:13:12.99\00:13:16.96 Uh-huh. Amen. 00:13:16.99\00:13:18.46 I mean, even when, like with the natural disasters, 00:13:18.49\00:13:21.96 they're happening at a rate in which it's never happened 00:13:22.00\00:13:26.13 before too, like, it's, frequency 00:13:26.17\00:13:28.57 back to back to back to back. 00:13:28.60\00:13:30.47 There is a great... 00:13:30.51\00:13:32.77 If you look it up, it's our world in data. 00:13:32.81\00:13:34.74 And they have this chart, and it's absolutely astounding. 00:13:34.78\00:13:37.71 They've been keeping track of natural disasters 00:13:37.75\00:13:39.11 since about the 1900s, 00:13:39.15\00:13:40.48 the great San Francisco earthquake until now, 00:13:40.52\00:13:42.38 where technology has been good about 00:13:42.42\00:13:44.02 tracking these things. 00:13:44.05\00:13:45.39 And what you see in the graph is, you know, 00:13:45.42\00:13:47.92 1900s, it's pretty level 00:13:47.96\00:13:49.46 all the way until you hit about 1980s. 00:13:49.49\00:13:51.86 And in the 1980s, it's a skyrocket jump 00:13:51.89\00:13:55.96 on off the charts in terms of the frequency, 00:13:56.00\00:13:58.63 the intensity, the scope, the scale, the cost, 00:13:58.67\00:14:01.90 the human factor. 00:14:01.94\00:14:04.34 So, even science recognizes that something is different. 00:14:04.37\00:14:08.51 Now the things that you're going to hear 00:14:08.54\00:14:10.61 in the popular circles, they're gonna be, well, 00:14:10.65\00:14:12.21 the climate is changing. 00:14:12.25\00:14:13.92 And there's no doubt that 00:14:13.95\00:14:15.28 the climate is being affected for sure. 00:14:15.32\00:14:17.05 But we know that men are gonna attribute 00:14:17.09\00:14:19.39 these causes to anything but the true cause. 00:14:19.42\00:14:21.96 And the true cause is that 00:14:21.99\00:14:23.32 this world is waxing old like a garment, 00:14:23.36\00:14:25.49 and that Jesus is coming soon. 00:14:25.53\00:14:27.43 And it were as a general rule, 00:14:27.46\00:14:30.50 this climate is in rebellion against God, 00:14:30.53\00:14:34.20 and that has consequences. 00:14:34.24\00:14:35.57 Yeah. 00:14:35.60\00:14:36.94 And there are negative effects to that. 00:14:36.97\00:14:38.31 Yeah. Yeah. 00:14:38.34\00:14:39.67 You know, you said the natural disasters 00:14:39.71\00:14:42.94 are increasing on. 00:14:42.98\00:14:44.41 People find out what we do, 00:14:44.45\00:14:45.78 they're like, "Yeah, we know that. 00:14:45.81\00:14:47.18 We know it's gonna continue that way." 00:14:47.22\00:14:49.35 I'm like, "It already is." 00:14:49.38\00:14:50.95 If we just focused on 00:14:50.99\00:14:52.45 hurricanes and cyclones right now, 00:14:52.49\00:14:54.39 we could do that year round. 00:14:54.42\00:14:55.76 Yeah. 00:14:55.79\00:14:57.13 If we could ignore all other types of disasters 00:14:57.16\00:14:58.79 and just do that, we're already there. 00:14:58.83\00:15:01.46 Yeah, yeah. 00:15:01.50\00:15:03.53 What are some of the other disasters? 00:15:03.57\00:15:05.60 I'm glad you said that. 00:15:05.63\00:15:06.97 What are some of the other disasters 00:15:07.00\00:15:08.34 that you focus on? 00:15:08.37\00:15:11.14 It's really any disaster. Yeah, we'll go and do anything. 00:15:11.17\00:15:14.81 Wherever the Lord will send us, we will go, you know, 00:15:14.84\00:15:17.65 and we just, what we see is an incredible opportunity, 00:15:17.68\00:15:21.65 where hearts and minds are open and ready 00:15:21.68\00:15:23.52 like never before because of the tragedies 00:15:23.55\00:15:25.35 they've been through. 00:15:25.39\00:15:26.72 You know, there's an age old adage 00:15:26.76\00:15:28.09 that we probably all familiar with, 00:15:28.12\00:15:29.79 and that is, you can live weeks without food, 00:15:29.82\00:15:31.89 days without water, minutes without air, 00:15:31.93\00:15:34.36 but you can't live a moment without hope. 00:15:34.40\00:15:37.83 And so there's this misconception, like, 00:15:37.87\00:15:39.40 we think when we talk about disasters, 00:15:39.43\00:15:41.24 we think, you know, the biggest need 00:15:41.27\00:15:42.94 that people have is life safety, 00:15:42.97\00:15:45.81 food, water, shelter, those things, right? 00:15:45.84\00:15:48.38 But what's interesting is that, 00:15:48.41\00:15:49.74 that's actually not the priority 00:15:49.78\00:15:52.01 that people need. 00:15:52.05\00:15:53.65 Because even if you have those things, 00:15:53.68\00:15:55.02 if you've lost hope, 00:15:55.05\00:15:56.38 how will you continue the next 12 hours 00:15:56.42\00:15:57.92 or the next 24 hours, or the next 72 hours? 00:15:57.95\00:15:59.89 Yeah. 00:15:59.92\00:16:01.26 So hope and they've researched this, 00:16:01.29\00:16:02.76 even people who get lost in the wilderness. 00:16:02.79\00:16:05.36 The moment you give up hope is the moment you're done, 00:16:05.39\00:16:08.13 even if you're not physically dead. 00:16:08.16\00:16:09.96 Yeah. Wow. 00:16:10.00\00:16:11.50 Yeah. 00:16:11.53\00:16:12.87 I mean, you're, basically when you give up hope, 00:16:12.90\00:16:14.50 you've given up faith. 00:16:14.54\00:16:15.87 Yeah. Yeah, yeah. 00:16:15.90\00:16:17.77 Wow. 00:16:17.81\00:16:19.14 So, because I was going to ask you, 00:16:19.17\00:16:23.04 you know, what mobilizes you guys to go, 00:16:23.08\00:16:26.72 but wherever God calls you is where you go? 00:16:26.75\00:16:28.72 That's where we go. 00:16:28.75\00:16:30.79 Wherever the need is, you know, David... 00:16:30.82\00:16:32.35 Yeah, I think about the story of David 00:16:32.39\00:16:33.89 and Goliath all the time, right? 00:16:33.92\00:16:35.26 Because here's Goliath, 00:16:35.29\00:16:36.62 here's this incredible adversity, 00:16:36.66\00:16:38.09 this challenge, this giant in the face of Israel, right? 00:16:38.13\00:16:42.43 And David here, the young upstart 00:16:42.46\00:16:44.60 is walking around the camp and saying, 00:16:44.63\00:16:46.47 is there not a cause? 00:16:46.50\00:16:47.84 I mean, like, isn't there a reason? 00:16:47.87\00:16:49.20 Like, there's a reason, right? So we should be going. 00:16:49.24\00:16:50.71 And everybody's like, "Well, wait a minute. 00:16:50.74\00:16:52.07 We don't have resources. We don't have money. 00:16:52.11\00:16:53.98 You know, we don't have the right talent. 00:16:54.01\00:16:55.88 You know, we don't have the man that's got the muscles," right? 00:16:55.91\00:16:58.08 I mean, they're saying all these things 00:16:58.11\00:16:59.45 and David's like, no, no, but isn't there not a cause? 00:16:59.48\00:17:01.85 And that's what motivates us. 00:17:01.88\00:17:03.22 So if you ask like, what motivates us 00:17:03.25\00:17:04.59 to go to disasters? 00:17:04.62\00:17:05.95 We always ask that question. 00:17:05.99\00:17:07.32 And it always comes back down to that. 00:17:07.36\00:17:08.69 Like, if there's a disaster, is there not a cause? 00:17:08.72\00:17:10.06 Yeah. 00:17:10.09\00:17:11.43 Is there not somebody who's hurting, you know, 00:17:11.46\00:17:12.79 that needs hope and encouragement? 00:17:12.83\00:17:14.26 Yeah. 00:17:14.30\00:17:15.70 And let me ask you this question. 00:17:15.73\00:17:19.77 Do you guys ever get discouraged? 00:17:19.80\00:17:23.47 Do you ever... 00:17:23.51\00:17:24.84 And not only do you ever get discouraged, 00:17:24.87\00:17:26.37 but what do you do about it? 00:17:26.41\00:17:27.94 How do you get past that discouragement? 00:17:27.98\00:17:31.08 I wanna answer that a bit. 00:17:31.11\00:17:32.98 You know, when Caleb and Joshua 00:17:33.01\00:17:34.62 and the other spies went into the land of Canaan, 00:17:34.65\00:17:37.62 some people became discouraged, right? 00:17:37.65\00:17:39.32 Yes. 00:17:39.35\00:17:40.69 In fact, the majority became discouraged 00:17:40.72\00:17:42.12 and they brought back negative, evil report. 00:17:42.16\00:17:45.13 But the same people were in the group 00:17:45.16\00:17:48.00 saw different perspective, right? 00:17:48.03\00:17:50.03 They were able to bring back a good report and they said, 00:17:50.07\00:17:52.50 we are well able to take the land 00:17:52.53\00:17:54.44 in God's strength, right? 00:17:54.47\00:17:55.80 Yeah. 00:17:55.84\00:17:57.67 The disaster situation is no different, I believe. 00:17:57.71\00:17:59.97 It's easy to look at it and be like, 00:18:00.01\00:18:01.78 "Oh, we can't function there. 00:18:01.81\00:18:03.38 Let the professionals handle it. 00:18:03.41\00:18:05.28 Let those who have been trained and you know, 00:18:05.31\00:18:08.08 who do that all the time, the Red Cross or whatever, 00:18:08.12\00:18:10.62 let them handle it." 00:18:10.65\00:18:12.39 We want to bring back a good report and say 00:18:12.42\00:18:14.46 from the front lines, we've been there. 00:18:14.49\00:18:16.16 We've been doing this for a while. 00:18:16.19\00:18:18.46 And we're nothing special. 00:18:18.49\00:18:20.30 Really, we are the least of the least teams. 00:18:20.33\00:18:22.33 We're a humbled team. 00:18:22.36\00:18:23.80 We don't have lots of money. We don't have a giant team. 00:18:23.83\00:18:26.97 We don't have a big organization. 00:18:27.00\00:18:28.34 We don't have big backers. 00:18:28.37\00:18:30.01 Well, right. We have God, right. 00:18:30.04\00:18:34.01 He's the biggest backer of them all. 00:18:34.04\00:18:35.38 He is, He's definitely the one that you want on your side. 00:18:35.41\00:18:37.91 That's right. That's right. 00:18:37.95\00:18:39.28 But what we want to bring back and say, 00:18:39.31\00:18:41.32 "We're well able to take the land." 00:18:41.35\00:18:43.25 Amen. Amen. Right? 00:18:43.28\00:18:45.29 What we do other people could do it with faith. 00:18:45.32\00:18:50.99 Yes, it's great if you have those skills already, 00:18:51.03\00:18:53.93 but you don't have to have them. 00:18:53.96\00:18:55.70 Get them, if you can, right? 00:18:55.73\00:18:57.77 But I mean, most of what we do 00:18:57.80\00:19:00.44 a typical person could do with faith. 00:19:00.47\00:19:03.41 Okay. 00:19:03.44\00:19:05.41 And in every disappointment there's a divine appointment. 00:19:05.44\00:19:08.04 You know, that's what we've seen time 00:19:08.08\00:19:09.41 and time again, we're human, you know, like we struggle 00:19:09.44\00:19:12.61 and each one of these trips I mean, 00:19:12.65\00:19:14.02 it's when you're in a disaster zone, 00:19:14.05\00:19:17.25 it is like the controversy magnified, right? 00:19:17.29\00:19:20.66 Yes. 00:19:20.69\00:19:22.02 Because like not only are you dealing 00:19:22.06\00:19:23.39 with just the normal everyday pressures of life, 00:19:23.43\00:19:24.79 but now you're dealing with literally life and death 00:19:24.83\00:19:27.30 and very serious situations. 00:19:27.33\00:19:29.70 And so, yeah, there is definitely room 00:19:29.73\00:19:32.67 in which we find ourselves, you know, 00:19:32.70\00:19:34.47 having to just come back and go on our knees like, Lord, 00:19:34.50\00:19:37.07 like it's not working out like, 00:19:37.11\00:19:38.57 this is not going the way that we thought it would. 00:19:38.61\00:19:40.24 But, Father, you know, open the door, provide a way, 00:19:40.28\00:19:42.54 and the Lord has never, never left us without help. 00:19:42.58\00:19:45.91 Yes. 00:19:45.95\00:19:47.28 When Jesus sent His disciples out 00:19:47.32\00:19:48.78 on their very first mission trip, 00:19:48.82\00:19:50.65 did He send them alone? 00:19:50.69\00:19:52.85 No, He sent two by two, right? 00:19:52.89\00:19:54.92 There is strength, right, the Bible says 00:19:54.96\00:19:56.83 the three chord strand is not easily broken, 00:19:56.86\00:19:58.89 it says when one falls, he's blessed 00:19:58.93\00:20:01.03 if he has a friend to help and pick him up. 00:20:01.06\00:20:02.40 That's right. 00:20:02.43\00:20:03.77 So there's wisdom in looking and seeing 00:20:03.80\00:20:05.87 what the Bible instructs and how to go about it. 00:20:05.90\00:20:08.70 Yes. It is our aid, right? 00:20:08.74\00:20:10.97 Yeah. We don't go alone. 00:20:11.01\00:20:12.91 We at least go two by two. Yeah. Yeah. 00:20:12.94\00:20:15.44 Absolutely, I mean, that's something that 00:20:15.48\00:20:17.98 is really important, I think to share with people 00:20:18.01\00:20:20.18 is the fact that we're all human. 00:20:20.22\00:20:22.98 And there are times where we get discouraged. 00:20:23.02\00:20:25.52 But what do we do about it 00:20:25.55\00:20:27.36 so that we don't stay in that position? 00:20:27.39\00:20:29.09 And I love what you guys are saying 00:20:29.12\00:20:30.46 because essentially what you're saying 00:20:30.49\00:20:31.99 is that you plug into the source, 00:20:32.03\00:20:33.93 and you pray and you ask the Lord 00:20:33.96\00:20:36.06 to strengthen you and you search the scriptures 00:20:36.10\00:20:37.80 and all of that. 00:20:37.83\00:20:39.17 And so, that's important. 00:20:39.20\00:20:41.80 I like to hear the resources, 00:20:41.84\00:20:44.44 you know, that you plug into it as well. 00:20:44.47\00:20:45.91 Yeah. 00:20:45.94\00:20:47.28 How do you go about assessing the situation 00:20:47.31\00:20:50.31 prior to getting on the ground? 00:20:50.35\00:20:54.02 That, you know, that's always a tough situation 00:20:54.05\00:20:57.02 because information is so scarce, 00:20:57.05\00:21:01.02 like at least true information, information is verifiable. 00:21:01.06\00:21:03.73 You know, when these disasters happen, 00:21:03.76\00:21:05.09 there's a lot of information that may be true, 00:21:05.13\00:21:06.93 that may not be true, that may be out of proportion 00:21:06.96\00:21:09.63 or, you know, out of context. 00:21:09.66\00:21:11.30 Yeah. So it is a challenge. 00:21:11.33\00:21:13.40 But all the more reason to stay connected 00:21:13.44\00:21:15.80 with the source as we say, Lord, we don't know 00:21:15.84\00:21:17.61 what we're doing exactly. 00:21:17.64\00:21:18.97 But we need You to guide us directly to where we're needed. 00:21:19.01\00:21:22.58 And Lord has never disappointed, 00:21:22.61\00:21:25.45 He has always inserted us at exactly the right moment, 00:21:25.48\00:21:28.08 exactly the right time, exactly the right location 00:21:28.12\00:21:31.12 for an incredible purpose in serving people 00:21:31.15\00:21:35.09 that are in need. 00:21:35.12\00:21:36.46 You know, He's also called us off 00:21:36.49\00:21:37.83 and just spit on disasters that didn't turn out to be bad too. 00:21:37.86\00:21:40.96 When they're forecasting, just this year, 00:21:41.00\00:21:45.23 there was a storm that was going to hit Texas 00:21:45.27\00:21:47.87 and Louisiana actually specifically. 00:21:47.90\00:21:50.31 And we said, "Lord, should we go to that?" 00:21:50.34\00:21:52.21 And we prayed about it, 00:21:52.24\00:21:53.68 it didn't seem like the Lord would send us. 00:21:53.71\00:21:55.04 So we didn't go and it didn't turn out to be 00:21:55.08\00:21:56.64 a very big deal. 00:21:56.68\00:21:58.01 So He's very faithful to send us 00:21:58.05\00:21:59.75 when we should go 00:21:59.78\00:22:01.15 and not waste resources and time if we shouldn't go. 00:22:01.18\00:22:03.99 Yeah. 00:22:04.02\00:22:05.35 Praise the Lord for that guidance. 00:22:05.39\00:22:06.72 Yeah. 00:22:06.76\00:22:08.09 We have quite a few graphics that we'd like to show 00:22:08.12\00:22:11.26 and just tell us briefly 00:22:11.29\00:22:13.29 what's going on in each one of those. 00:22:13.33\00:22:15.70 Yeah. Absolutely. 00:22:15.73\00:22:18.03 This is some of the destruction we saw in Hurricane Dorian. 00:22:18.07\00:22:20.27 And it was absolutely just incredible. 00:22:20.30\00:22:22.30 I mean, total destruction. 00:22:22.34\00:22:24.77 In fact, this is a disaster that they've never seen 00:22:24.81\00:22:27.64 on this scale before. 00:22:27.68\00:22:29.18 So I mean, the destruction was pretty complete 00:22:29.21\00:22:32.65 in terms of what actually transpired in that storm, 00:22:32.68\00:22:36.28 category five hurricane, but not only that, 00:22:36.32\00:22:38.52 multiple tornadoes on the ground, 00:22:38.55\00:22:39.92 destroying things in their path as well. 00:22:39.95\00:22:41.72 Combined with like a 20 to 30 foot storm surge. 00:22:41.76\00:22:44.79 So you have a significant flood on top of winds 00:22:44.83\00:22:48.33 that are strong enough. 00:22:48.36\00:22:49.96 It's the effect of which you've been in a tornado. 00:22:50.00\00:22:52.53 Wow. 00:22:52.57\00:22:53.90 But it was there for a day and a half. 00:22:53.94\00:22:56.20 So I really, I don't know how people survived. 00:22:56.24\00:22:59.67 When we were talking about responding to this, 00:22:59.71\00:23:02.44 and I said, I don't know who we're gonna help, 00:23:02.48\00:23:04.31 because I don't know who's going to survive this. 00:23:04.35\00:23:06.05 Yeah. 00:23:06.08\00:23:07.42 So with that destructive of a storm, 00:23:07.45\00:23:10.59 I'm amazed that so many people survived 00:23:10.62\00:23:12.35 and lived through. 00:23:12.39\00:23:13.79 And I can only attribute that to how gracious God is 00:23:13.82\00:23:16.86 so that even in that level of destruction, 00:23:16.89\00:23:19.53 His hand is still working to save people. 00:23:19.56\00:23:22.70 If it wasn't, you would have seen 00:23:22.73\00:23:24.23 much more death really than then there was. 00:23:24.27\00:23:27.27 Yeah, yeah. 00:23:27.30\00:23:28.64 I don't know how people survive that devastation either. 00:23:28.67\00:23:31.51 And, you know, I've seen pictures, 00:23:31.54\00:23:32.87 I've seen videos and all of that stuff. 00:23:32.91\00:23:36.11 And I mean, I don't know how anybody could survive 00:23:36.14\00:23:39.48 that, only God. 00:23:39.51\00:23:41.48 Yeah, yeah. 00:23:41.52\00:23:42.85 So, you know, you guys must come in contact 00:23:42.88\00:23:46.32 with a lot of resources, right? 00:23:46.35\00:23:49.22 We do. 00:23:49.26\00:23:50.86 I mean, the Lord hooks us up with 00:23:50.89\00:23:52.23 whatever it is that we need. 00:23:52.26\00:23:53.60 If it's planes that we need, 00:23:53.63\00:23:54.96 then He provides the planes, you know, 00:23:55.00\00:23:57.30 if it's a helicopter ride that we need, 00:23:57.33\00:23:59.30 then He provides that, you know, 00:23:59.33\00:24:00.67 if it's resources that we need, He's always provided that. 00:24:00.70\00:24:03.81 You know, our limited way of thinking is, 00:24:03.84\00:24:05.47 Lord, we need transportation there. 00:24:05.51\00:24:07.38 Lord, give us a plane. God's like, what just one? 00:24:07.41\00:24:11.38 Yeah. You know, I mean. 00:24:11.41\00:24:14.18 He's good. 00:24:14.22\00:24:15.55 He gives us the planes, the fuel, the pilots, 00:24:15.58\00:24:18.59 the logistic coordinators, resources to get on the planes, 00:24:18.62\00:24:23.26 the food, water and stuff like that. 00:24:23.29\00:24:25.09 So all of these resources 00:24:25.13\00:24:26.63 are coming into these disasters. 00:24:26.66\00:24:28.93 And we can't take any credit for those 00:24:28.96\00:24:30.83 because we didn't do any work for it. 00:24:30.87\00:24:32.20 Yeah. 00:24:32.23\00:24:33.57 You know, we didn't supply those things. 00:24:33.60\00:24:35.67 And God's supplying these things. 00:24:35.70\00:24:37.47 And so with the value of the food and the water 00:24:37.51\00:24:40.41 and the aid that you're able to give through it, 00:24:40.44\00:24:42.41 the resources of the world are now becoming 00:24:42.44\00:24:44.78 the conduit of the gospel. 00:24:44.81\00:24:46.15 That's beautiful. Amen. 00:24:46.18\00:24:47.52 That is beautiful. Amen. 00:24:47.55\00:24:48.88 And it's just so evident that it's just God doing this. 00:24:48.92\00:24:52.29 It's like the story of Gideon, right? 00:24:52.32\00:24:54.16 They, you know, defeated their whole enemies 00:24:54.19\00:24:58.63 by very humble means, only 300 warriors, 00:24:58.66\00:25:02.13 lamps and pitchers. 00:25:02.16\00:25:03.83 You know the stories in Judges Chapter 6. 00:25:03.87\00:25:06.00 And God specifically says, 00:25:06.03\00:25:08.00 this is so that you don't say that 00:25:08.04\00:25:09.44 you got the victory yourself. 00:25:09.47\00:25:11.11 So the God gets the glory. 00:25:11.14\00:25:12.51 And I like that it's just so visible that 00:25:12.54\00:25:14.94 we're so of a no name team. 00:25:14.98\00:25:20.25 So, that, you know, everyone can obviously see, 00:25:20.28\00:25:23.18 well, they got it to work out, it's obviously 00:25:23.22\00:25:25.72 because God made it so. 00:25:25.75\00:25:27.36 Yes, yes. 00:25:27.39\00:25:28.96 You know, I'm a firm believer that 00:25:28.99\00:25:31.03 we serve an on time God and you guys mentioned 00:25:31.06\00:25:33.46 something earlier about how, 00:25:33.50\00:25:35.16 you know, you might not have too much, 00:25:35.20\00:25:39.97 God doesn't give you too much. 00:25:40.00\00:25:41.90 But He doesn't give you too little, 00:25:41.94\00:25:43.41 He gives you just what you need 00:25:43.44\00:25:45.74 and right when you need it. 00:25:45.77\00:25:47.11 Right when you need it. Yeah. 00:25:47.14\00:25:48.64 And He also guides you and gives you that discernment 00:25:48.68\00:25:53.11 as to where to go. 00:25:53.15\00:25:54.92 Speaking in terms of needs, 00:25:54.95\00:25:56.99 what do you guys need as an organization? 00:25:57.02\00:26:00.96 I mean, number one request would be prayer. 00:26:00.99\00:26:03.59 You know, we've seen how prayer 00:26:03.63\00:26:05.36 is that key in the hand of faith 00:26:05.39\00:26:07.33 that unlocks heaven's treasure house. 00:26:07.36\00:26:09.76 I mean, it's just incredible. 00:26:09.80\00:26:11.13 Like when prayer is a part of our ministry, 00:26:11.17\00:26:13.44 it's a part of our mission. 00:26:13.47\00:26:14.84 I mean, the Lord, just, He does it, I mean, 00:26:14.87\00:26:17.34 He puts it together. 00:26:17.37\00:26:19.14 Number two, I would say that scripturally, 00:26:19.17\00:26:22.28 we see that Jesus asked His disciples to pray, 00:26:22.31\00:26:25.45 not for money, not for resources 00:26:25.48\00:26:28.15 that they would ask that the Lord of the harvest 00:26:28.18\00:26:29.92 would provide laborers, because the harvest is great, 00:26:29.95\00:26:32.95 and the laborers are few. 00:26:32.99\00:26:34.76 And that's one of our greatest needs 00:26:34.79\00:26:36.22 is we just don't have the hands in which to help. 00:26:36.26\00:26:40.76 Yes. 00:26:40.80\00:26:42.13 Quality people who are about the glory of God 00:26:42.16\00:26:46.17 and not about the glory for themselves on these trips. 00:26:46.20\00:26:50.27 You know, when you go down there 00:26:50.31\00:26:52.04 and your foremost goal is helping people 00:26:52.07\00:26:55.24 and what is most valuable to them 00:26:55.28\00:26:56.91 and you forget any credit going to you, 00:26:56.95\00:27:00.72 that's the kind of teammates that, 00:27:00.75\00:27:03.45 that God needs. 00:27:03.49\00:27:04.82 Yes.
