Stay tuned to meet two guys that are making 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.50 a huge difference in their community. 00:00:03.53\00:00:06.27 My name is Jason Bradley, 00:00:06.30\00:00:07.67 and you're watching Urban Report. 00:00:07.70\00:00:09.70 Hello, and welcome to Urban Report. 00:00:31.23\00:00:33.19 My guests today are Eric Camarillo, 00:00:33.23\00:00:35.53 president of Salt Outreach, and Lo-Ammi Richardson, 00:00:35.56\00:00:38.73 evangelist and harvest director for Salt Outreach. 00:00:38.77\00:00:42.10 Welcome back to the program. 00:00:42.14\00:00:44.04 You guys have been here on Urban Report before. 00:00:44.07\00:00:47.74 It's been a little while. 00:00:47.78\00:00:49.11 I think it's been about two years. 00:00:49.14\00:00:52.35 Yeah, it's been a minute. 00:00:52.38\00:00:53.72 We also had what we did? 00:00:53.75\00:00:55.85 We did a ministry update at ASI. 00:00:55.88\00:00:59.99 And, you know, the interesting thing 00:01:00.02\00:01:02.29 is to see the development of the ministry overtime, 00:01:02.32\00:01:07.43 you know, you've come on the program, 00:01:07.46\00:01:09.03 you've talked about things that you needed, 00:01:09.06\00:01:11.87 and God's just been fulfilling those things. 00:01:11.90\00:01:14.70 Yeah. 00:01:14.74\00:01:16.07 But since it has been a while, 00:01:16.10\00:01:18.51 I want to reintroduce you to our viewers. 00:01:18.54\00:01:22.31 Eric, tell me a little bit about your background? 00:01:22.34\00:01:24.78 My background, okay. 00:01:24.81\00:01:26.88 Well, I, as you mentioned, president of Salt, 00:01:26.92\00:01:29.75 I just got my masters in non-profit management. 00:01:29.78\00:01:32.15 Okay. 00:01:32.19\00:01:33.52 And certification 00:01:33.56\00:01:34.92 as a certified non-profit professional. 00:01:34.96\00:01:38.56 I grew up in Chicago, you know, 00:01:38.59\00:01:41.33 so I kind of in that city element, 00:01:41.36\00:01:44.23 you know, moved to Orlando and Salt started 00:01:44.27\00:01:47.64 about a year after I became a Christian. 00:01:47.67\00:01:50.27 It was probably, it was 2011, September. 00:01:50.31\00:01:53.27 Nice. And what is Salt stand for? 00:01:53.31\00:01:54.88 So Salt, an acronym for Service and Love Together. 00:01:54.91\00:01:58.61 So the whole concept was, 00:01:58.65\00:02:01.68 you know, there's so many churches in Orlando, 00:02:01.72\00:02:04.35 we wanted to create a vehicle for the churches, 00:02:04.39\00:02:07.66 especially the young people to get together 00:02:07.69\00:02:10.46 to make an impact in the community, 00:02:10.49\00:02:11.99 kind of combine all of that together. 00:02:12.03\00:02:14.20 You know, a lot of young people are leaving the church. 00:02:14.23\00:02:16.26 But we wanted to create a community you know, 00:02:16.30\00:02:18.27 there might be two young adults at this church, 00:02:18.30\00:02:20.47 three at this church, five at this church, 00:02:20.50\00:02:22.34 but when you have a vehicle to give, 00:02:22.37\00:02:23.94 bring them all together. 00:02:23.97\00:02:25.31 Now it becomes a community 00:02:25.34\00:02:26.68 that fosters growth for young adults. 00:02:26.71\00:02:29.11 So that's kind of, you know, why it started so. 00:02:29.14\00:02:32.35 Got you. 00:02:32.38\00:02:33.72 And, Lo-Ammi, tell us a little bit 00:02:33.75\00:02:35.08 about your background, 00:02:35.12\00:02:36.45 and what a harvest director is? 00:02:36.48\00:02:41.12 Predominantly evangelist and harvest director 00:02:41.16\00:02:42.89 for the ministry, Service And Love Together for Salt 00:02:42.92\00:02:45.33 and my upbringing, I kind of grew up 00:02:45.36\00:02:47.76 in the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:02:47.80\00:02:49.13 or, you know, family, both mom and dad 00:02:49.16\00:02:51.10 were both Adventist. 00:02:51.13\00:02:52.53 So I understood what it meant to be an Adventist 00:02:52.57\00:02:54.40 and go to church 00:02:54.44\00:02:55.77 and participate in all the church programs 00:02:55.80\00:02:57.64 and eventually I left the church 00:02:57.67\00:02:59.01 and, you know, pursued the things of the world, 00:02:59.04\00:03:00.98 and maybe about, so it's about nine years ago 00:03:01.01\00:03:03.48 that God called me back into the fold 00:03:03.51\00:03:05.48 and been in full time ministry ever since. 00:03:05.51\00:03:07.35 And about three years ago, 00:03:07.38\00:03:08.72 I moved back to Orlando and Eric and I met 00:03:08.75\00:03:11.05 and he kind of shared the vision of Salt 00:03:11.09\00:03:13.22 and to component my strengths of evangelism 00:03:13.25\00:03:16.12 and his idea of wanting to do street ministry 00:03:16.16\00:03:18.39 kind of blended together. 00:03:18.43\00:03:19.76 And so I've been with Salt for the last three years now 00:03:19.79\00:03:21.50 kind of being there, 00:03:21.53\00:03:23.33 you know, promoter, evangelist, and speaking for them 00:03:23.37\00:03:26.40 on behalf of their, of the ministry 00:03:26.43\00:03:28.80 and the harvest director, simply, 00:03:28.84\00:03:31.14 we plant the seeds throughout the year, 00:03:31.17\00:03:32.57 and then my job is to kind of harvest them into the church, 00:03:32.61\00:03:35.38 harvest them into the fold of God. 00:03:35.41\00:03:37.38 And so that's kind of a summary of what I'm, 00:03:37.41\00:03:40.18 my current responsibilities in my background. 00:03:40.22\00:03:41.88 Nice. 00:03:41.92\00:03:43.25 Now there's a cycle, if you will, what is this? 00:03:43.28\00:03:46.45 What is this cycle? 00:03:46.49\00:03:47.82 Are there four steps in the cycle? 00:03:47.86\00:03:49.32 Are there five steps? 00:03:49.36\00:03:50.69 I know, it ends in evangelism, but what is the cycle? 00:03:50.73\00:03:54.06 Yeah, so there's different components 00:03:54.10\00:03:56.77 in which we plant seeds, 00:03:56.80\00:03:58.47 you know, we have the outreaches 00:03:58.50\00:03:59.83 which are kind of the more obvious ways 00:03:59.87\00:04:01.57 that we plant seeds, you know, 00:04:01.60\00:04:03.91 creating those relationships with them, 00:04:03.94\00:04:06.01 then we have our growth groups or small groups, 00:04:06.04\00:04:08.58 to kind of bring young adults and even people that we meet, 00:04:08.61\00:04:11.88 just, you know, even co-workers, 00:04:11.91\00:04:13.78 whoever, you know, classmates, to small groups 00:04:13.82\00:04:16.48 to kind of study the Bible together. 00:04:16.52\00:04:19.22 And then after that, we also have our events, 00:04:19.25\00:04:23.73 where we kind of invite people to come, 00:04:23.76\00:04:26.13 some of those are harvest events. 00:04:26.16\00:04:28.16 You know, we'll talk a little bit about that later. 00:04:28.20\00:04:31.37 And, you know, those are kind of the key ways 00:04:31.40\00:04:34.40 that we really engage people and plant seeds. 00:04:34.44\00:04:37.84 And it all ends with our evangelism 00:04:37.87\00:04:39.67 because at the end of the day, you know, 00:04:39.71\00:04:41.28 we want to win souls for Christ, 00:04:41.31\00:04:42.78 you know, there's different avenues 00:04:42.81\00:04:44.65 in which we want to get there. 00:04:44.68\00:04:47.58 You know, but that's the bottom line, so. 00:04:47.62\00:04:51.25 Nice. 00:04:51.29\00:04:52.62 So like, ever since I met you guys, 00:04:52.65\00:04:55.02 I think it was actually at an ASI where I met you, 00:04:55.06\00:04:58.09 either ASI or GYC or something like that. 00:04:58.13\00:05:00.63 I was just blown away by what I saw, 00:05:00.66\00:05:03.37 like the cycle and how it ended in evangelism, 00:05:03.40\00:05:06.74 and how it's really practical Christianity 00:05:06.77\00:05:09.60 and Christ method that you guys are implementing. 00:05:09.64\00:05:15.28 And it was just amazing to see that 00:05:15.31\00:05:17.65 and then to see young people 00:05:17.68\00:05:20.05 so heavily involved in that. 00:05:20.08\00:05:23.08 What are some of the challenges that you guys have faced? 00:05:23.12\00:05:28.19 So challenges in just, in running the organization? 00:05:28.22\00:05:31.23 Just in running the organization. 00:05:31.26\00:05:32.59 So, you know, we primarily, you know, 00:05:32.63\00:05:35.20 when we're dealing with people on the street, 00:05:35.23\00:05:36.83 I mean, there's always a challenge, you know, 00:05:36.87\00:05:38.73 I mean, we're dealing with, you know, homeless individuals, 00:05:38.77\00:05:41.00 for example, they come from all different backgrounds, 00:05:41.04\00:05:43.87 I mean like all different experiences. 00:05:43.91\00:05:46.47 So it's always a challenge to kind of adapt 00:05:46.51\00:05:48.74 to each personality, each person, 00:05:48.78\00:05:52.08 you know, to show them that we care, 00:05:52.11\00:05:54.28 you know, what Paul says, you know, I became, 00:05:54.32\00:05:56.38 you know, all things to all people, 00:05:56.42\00:05:57.75 if it would further the gospel, right? 00:05:57.79\00:05:59.49 So that's kind of one aspect of it. 00:05:59.52\00:06:02.66 I think another challenge, as well is, is young adults, 00:06:02.69\00:06:07.20 you know, comprise our leadership, 00:06:07.23\00:06:08.80 I think our average age is 26, 00:06:08.83\00:06:11.53 or some around that range right there, 26-27. 00:06:11.57\00:06:14.64 And so, you know, young adults, they get married, 00:06:14.67\00:06:17.94 you know, or they go off to school, 00:06:17.97\00:06:20.24 or, you know, they move off somewhere 00:06:20.28\00:06:22.01 or something like that and when that happens, 00:06:22.04\00:06:25.28 now, we have a hole that we have to fill. 00:06:25.31\00:06:27.15 So we're constantly recruiting young adults 00:06:27.18\00:06:29.62 to take on leadership positions. 00:06:29.65\00:06:30.99 So that's another challenge 00:06:31.02\00:06:32.35 to any of that you may be challenged. 00:06:32.39\00:06:33.86 Yeah, it does kind of, you know, life happens, 00:06:33.89\00:06:35.66 and people, you know, 00:06:35.69\00:06:37.03 kind of had to transition out of that, 00:06:37.06\00:06:38.76 you know, out of that specific responsibility that they had. 00:06:38.79\00:06:44.37 And so for us to try to plug 00:06:44.40\00:06:45.73 that in is always been one of the hardest volunteers, 00:06:45.77\00:06:48.34 to try to get volunteers to come out and, 00:06:48.37\00:06:50.54 you know, take ownership 00:06:50.57\00:06:52.67 with some of the responsibilities 00:06:52.71\00:06:54.28 that we have at hand, so. 00:06:54.31\00:06:56.34 Yeah. 00:06:56.38\00:06:57.71 So what's new with Salt? 00:06:57.75\00:07:00.82 Well, there's a lot new. 00:07:00.85\00:07:03.12 Well, last time we were here on this show, 00:07:03.15\00:07:06.76 we were talking about the idea of a shower trailer 00:07:06.79\00:07:10.29 for the homeless. 00:07:10.33\00:07:11.73 We realized that was the next step 00:07:11.76\00:07:13.73 in meeting the needs for the homeless. 00:07:13.76\00:07:15.80 You were at ASI, and some of the viewers 00:07:15.83\00:07:19.00 probably saw as well, the shower trailer, 00:07:19.03\00:07:21.00 we were able to display there, 00:07:21.04\00:07:22.37 we had just gotten it a few days before. 00:07:22.40\00:07:25.87 There's videos we have on social media bus like, 00:07:25.91\00:07:28.41 trying to push that thing in there, 00:07:28.44\00:07:30.65 into the convention center and all that 'cause there was, 00:07:30.68\00:07:32.88 you know, it's difficult, but yeah, we since August, 00:07:32.91\00:07:36.99 we've been operating it, alongside we have our showers. 00:07:37.02\00:07:42.02 So just to give you kind of an idea 00:07:42.06\00:07:44.43 of how the homeless outreach works right now 00:07:44.46\00:07:46.90 is we have the homeless come, 00:07:46.93\00:07:50.27 they go to our clothing trailer, 00:07:50.30\00:07:53.13 which we have a picture of our clothing trailer. 00:07:53.17\00:07:56.10 And once they go to the clothing trailer, 00:07:56.14\00:07:58.67 they get their clothes, they get the towel, 00:07:58.71\00:08:00.58 their hygiene product. 00:08:00.61\00:08:02.21 Then after that, they go over to get a haircut. 00:08:02.24\00:08:08.12 So we also have a picture of you know, 00:08:08.15\00:08:10.62 some of our homeless friends getting haircuts as well. 00:08:10.65\00:08:13.49 And then after that's a change trailer there 00:08:13.52\00:08:15.22 in the background. 00:08:15.26\00:08:16.59 After the shot... 00:08:16.62\00:08:17.96 after that, the haircut, 00:08:17.99\00:08:19.63 they go and they take a shower. 00:08:19.66\00:08:21.00 We have a picture of some of the home, 00:08:21.03\00:08:22.76 our homeless friends lined up sitting down, 00:08:22.80\00:08:25.50 about to go into the shower trailer there. 00:08:25.53\00:08:28.60 And it's, you know, 00:08:28.64\00:08:30.14 the shower trailer has four showers, 00:08:30.17\00:08:31.51 so we're able to really get in a lot of showers there. 00:08:31.54\00:08:35.78 You know, and as a result, 00:08:35.81\00:08:37.15 we've been getting a lot of notice 00:08:37.18\00:08:38.51 from the community, you know, before then, 00:08:38.55\00:08:40.58 you know, we were kind of known more 00:08:40.62\00:08:42.65 in the kind of the Adventist circles and churches. 00:08:42.68\00:08:46.29 But now we have, I kind of have a picture 00:08:46.32\00:08:49.82 to some news stories on Channel 9 00:08:49.86\00:08:53.63 in August of 2018 covered a story on us. 00:08:53.66\00:08:56.97 That's the Orlando Sentinel, 00:08:57.00\00:08:58.33 local newspaper did a story on us as well. 00:08:58.37\00:09:01.00 Channel 13 did a story on us. 00:09:01.04\00:09:04.11 We had the University of Central Florida 00:09:04.14\00:09:06.57 do an article and a story on us they got out there. 00:09:06.61\00:09:09.48 And we're getting more and more volunteers 00:09:09.51\00:09:11.21 that come from that aren't just Adventist volunteers. 00:09:11.25\00:09:14.82 Yes. 00:09:14.85\00:09:16.18 We're getting more and more people 00:09:16.22\00:09:17.82 that maybe even don't even 00:09:17.85\00:09:19.19 have like a religious background, 00:09:19.22\00:09:21.22 but they're wanting to volunteer, 00:09:21.26\00:09:22.99 which is another avenue, 00:09:23.02\00:09:24.39 you know, that we can kind of reach people as well. 00:09:24.43\00:09:27.20 One of the cool things is that 00:09:27.23\00:09:28.56 when they actually connect with young adults, 00:09:28.60\00:09:30.77 having the same purpose and mission, 00:09:30.80\00:09:32.37 and they realize that we're Christian, 00:09:32.40\00:09:33.74 they're like, oh, man, you guys are so chilled 00:09:33.77\00:09:35.10 and easy to talk to. 00:09:35.14\00:09:36.67 And it kind of gives them a fresh perspective 00:09:36.71\00:09:38.47 of what they think Christianity is 00:09:38.51\00:09:40.18 that we're actually wanting to make an impact 00:09:40.21\00:09:41.91 and trying to change lives 00:09:41.94\00:09:43.28 and not necessarily push religion down people's throat, 00:09:43.31\00:09:45.75 like we want to serve the needs of the community. 00:09:45.78\00:09:47.95 And as we do that, they can see, 00:09:47.98\00:09:49.32 man, you guys really care. 00:09:49.35\00:09:50.69 So whatever we share outside of that, 00:09:50.72\00:09:52.15 they're more inclined to listen. 00:09:52.19\00:09:53.52 And so that's been one 00:09:53.56\00:09:54.89 of the huge blessings of actually, 00:09:54.92\00:09:56.26 you know, having volunteers 00:09:56.29\00:09:57.63 from outside of our denomination 00:09:57.66\00:09:58.99 and our faith, to actually see 00:09:59.03\00:10:00.36 that we're wanting to put our faith into action. 00:10:00.40\00:10:03.06 So that's been an actually big blessing. 00:10:03.10\00:10:04.43 Yeah. 00:10:04.47\00:10:05.80 I mean, one thing I just want to mention too is, 00:10:05.83\00:10:08.20 you know, 00:10:08.24\00:10:09.70 the Adventist Church is so populated in that area, 00:10:09.74\00:10:12.34 there's so many people in that area. 00:10:12.37\00:10:13.98 And so, for Adventist to be in the news, 00:10:14.01\00:10:17.55 you know what I'm saying? 00:10:17.58\00:10:18.91 That's, I mean, you know, you don't see that every day. 00:10:18.95\00:10:22.65 You know, may be Florida Hospital, 00:10:22.68\00:10:24.12 you know, maybe there are, you know, advent out now. 00:10:24.15\00:10:27.22 But when you have Seventh-day Adventists 00:10:27.26\00:10:29.99 on all these news stations and all that, 00:10:30.03\00:10:31.69 it really puts us on the map. 00:10:31.73\00:10:35.26 You know what I'm saying? Absolutely. 00:10:35.30\00:10:37.27 So yeah, that's, that's an exciting part too. 00:10:37.30\00:10:39.23 Yeah, that's huge. 00:10:39.27\00:10:40.60 And I can only imagine that, you know, 00:10:40.64\00:10:42.84 how many lives are being transformed, 00:10:42.87\00:10:45.57 not even just, you know, 00:10:45.61\00:10:47.34 the homeless individuals that you guys are helping, 00:10:47.38\00:10:50.91 but the people that are helping them 00:10:50.95\00:10:53.15 that don't go to the church, because like you said, 00:10:53.18\00:10:55.45 they're, you know, they're volunteering, 00:10:55.48\00:10:57.49 and they see that you guys genuinely 00:10:57.52\00:11:00.36 care about other people 00:11:00.39\00:11:02.22 and you're doing something, you see a need, 00:11:02.26\00:11:04.63 and you're doing something about it. 00:11:04.66\00:11:06.46 You're not just saying, okay, I'll pray for you. 00:11:06.49\00:11:08.46 Yeah. 00:11:08.50\00:11:09.83 You know, which prayer is excellent. 00:11:09.86\00:11:11.97 Don't get me wrong. Prayer is powerful. 00:11:12.00\00:11:13.90 We're connecting to God, 00:11:13.94\00:11:16.47 you know, we're communing with God. 00:11:16.50\00:11:18.31 But prayer without works, it's like faith without works. 00:11:18.34\00:11:21.88 Right. 00:11:21.91\00:11:23.24 It's there, you know, it's like, you have a coat 00:11:23.28\00:11:25.71 and somebody's cold, you have an extra coat 00:11:25.75\00:11:27.48 and you're just like, 00:11:27.52\00:11:28.85 I'll pray for you that you warm up. 00:11:28.88\00:11:31.59 Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:11:31.62\00:11:32.95 You know, and you're able to provide these things. 00:11:32.99\00:11:36.12 And so that is absolutely amazing. 00:11:36.16\00:11:40.53 To me, the shower trailer, 00:11:40.56\00:11:41.96 the change trailer, the haircuts, 00:11:42.00\00:11:45.27 you also help with people preparing resumes, correct? 00:11:45.30\00:11:48.17 Yeah. 00:11:48.20\00:11:49.54 So, you know, 00:11:49.57\00:11:50.91 there's one individual in particular right now 00:11:50.94\00:11:53.21 that we're working with that, 00:11:53.24\00:11:56.04 yeah, I mean, if they need help with resumes, 00:11:56.08\00:11:58.48 we're there to help, you know, we, right now 00:11:58.51\00:12:01.12 we're operating, 00:12:01.15\00:12:03.12 we don't have the funds to operate regularly 00:12:03.15\00:12:05.95 throughout the week. 00:12:05.99\00:12:07.32 That would be our goal. 00:12:07.36\00:12:08.69 If we can operate regularly throughout the week, 00:12:08.72\00:12:10.29 we can really implement a strong program. 00:12:10.33\00:12:13.66 But as we're working on building capacity for that, 00:12:13.70\00:12:16.63 we're providing needs to our friends to the community 00:12:16.67\00:12:20.50 and then once when we're providing those needs, 00:12:20.54\00:12:22.64 we find people that have that need help further 00:12:22.67\00:12:25.67 than what we're offering. 00:12:25.71\00:12:27.04 And then that's when, you know, leadership, maybe volunteers, 00:12:27.08\00:12:30.65 we go and we kind of go that extra mile with them. 00:12:30.68\00:12:33.65 You know, one guy in particular just got a job 00:12:33.68\00:12:35.55 six months ago, saved up $3,000. 00:12:35.58\00:12:37.69 Now we're helping them find a place to move into, 00:12:37.72\00:12:40.79 you know, so there's cases like that little, 00:12:40.82\00:12:43.56 you know, that that we're working with. 00:12:43.59\00:12:44.93 One of the things we actually did was partner up 00:12:44.96\00:12:46.43 with another organization, a lot of our homeless friends, 00:12:46.46\00:12:48.83 they didn't have IDs, identifications. 00:12:48.86\00:12:50.83 Yeah. So we help them to get IDs. 00:12:50.87\00:12:52.77 And so, yeah, everything is usually on a case 00:12:52.80\00:12:54.74 to case basis, we offer a general help, like, 00:12:54.77\00:12:57.01 if you want to closet showers, 00:12:57.04\00:12:58.77 we're able to provide that, but anything outside of that, 00:12:58.81\00:13:01.44 you know, if they need extra, 00:13:01.48\00:13:02.81 then we're willing to try to put them 00:13:02.84\00:13:04.18 with the right people 00:13:04.21\00:13:05.55 who have those strengths that we can help them, 00:13:05.58\00:13:07.55 you know, provide that supply that need 00:13:07.58\00:13:09.28 that they're desiring to have. 00:13:09.32\00:13:10.65 Right and, you know, ultimately, the whole program 00:13:10.69\00:13:13.32 what is gonna be designed to do is to help a homeless 00:13:13.36\00:13:16.73 individual that wants to work. 00:13:16.76\00:13:18.29 Yes. Obtain employment. 00:13:18.33\00:13:20.16 You know, and so things like the IDs, the showers, 00:13:20.20\00:13:23.23 I mean, there was a homeless friend of ours 00:13:23.26\00:13:24.60 before the shower trailer. 00:13:24.63\00:13:25.97 I don't know if I mentioned in last show or not, 00:13:26.00\00:13:27.47 but he had been looking for a job. 00:13:27.50\00:13:30.51 But he hadn't showered in three months. 00:13:30.54\00:13:32.07 You know, I'd see him, he'd be like, "Eric, 00:13:32.11\00:13:33.71 I got another job, job interview." 00:13:33.74\00:13:35.88 I'm like, "Okay, great," you know, 00:13:35.91\00:13:37.65 but I know he wasn't able to shower. 00:13:37.68\00:13:41.65 How is he going to get that job? 00:13:41.68\00:13:44.12 You know, so, you know, ultimately, that's, 00:13:44.15\00:13:47.56 that's what we're driving to 00:13:47.59\00:13:49.09 'cause there's a lot of programs 00:13:49.12\00:13:50.46 in Orlando right now. 00:13:50.49\00:13:51.83 They're helping the chronic homeless, 00:13:51.86\00:13:53.19 they target the worst homeless of the homeless population. 00:13:53.23\00:13:56.33 But there are those that don't have to enter 00:13:56.36\00:13:58.50 chronic homelessness, 00:13:58.53\00:13:59.87 though they're right in the verge 00:13:59.90\00:14:01.24 of entering homelessness, 00:14:01.27\00:14:02.60 that we can help kind of get out. 00:14:02.64\00:14:04.74 And that's the target that we're really shooting for. 00:14:04.77\00:14:06.88 Got you. Got you. 00:14:06.91\00:14:09.84 That's a crucial component too because a lot of times people 00:14:09.88\00:14:13.31 just simply lack resources, they don't know where to go. 00:14:13.35\00:14:17.49 So even by you guys facilitating that connection. 00:14:17.52\00:14:21.39 That's powerful, too. 00:14:21.42\00:14:22.92 I'd like to shift gears and transition a little bit 00:14:22.96\00:14:26.06 into the evangelism aspect of it. 00:14:26.09\00:14:28.70 You know, what does that look? 00:14:28.73\00:14:31.27 How do you prepare your sermons? 00:14:31.30\00:14:33.34 Yeah, so one of my major responsibilities, as you know, 00:14:33.37\00:14:37.17 my home base is in Orlando, Florida, 00:14:37.21\00:14:38.74 but I get a lot of speaking appointments to travel, 00:14:38.77\00:14:40.64 you know, across the country and around the world. 00:14:40.68\00:14:42.38 And so, I want to share this vision 00:14:42.41\00:14:44.28 to as many churches as possible, 00:14:44.31\00:14:45.68 because I've seen that this vision works, 00:14:45.71\00:14:47.18 it's actually jumpstarted 00:14:47.22\00:14:49.25 a lot of our volunteers and our leaders 00:14:49.28\00:14:51.29 who didn't have a relationship with God. 00:14:51.32\00:14:52.69 It jumpstarted for them to have a deeper relationship with God. 00:14:52.72\00:14:55.36 And so, you know, we're talking about 00:14:55.39\00:14:57.63 to why are the youth leaving, they're leaving it 00:14:57.66\00:14:59.63 because they don't have a sense of purpose. 00:14:59.66\00:15:01.23 They don't have a vision or mission to be a part of. 00:15:01.26\00:15:03.90 And so, when they see that there's young people 00:15:03.93\00:15:05.53 in our community that says, "Okay, let's stop complaining, 00:15:05.57\00:15:07.70 let's actually do something." 00:15:07.74\00:15:10.21 They get inspired, they want to actually do something. 00:15:10.24\00:15:11.87 And so for me, a lot of the main responsibilities 00:15:11.91\00:15:15.08 is to try to coordinate harvest events, week of prayers, 00:15:15.11\00:15:17.91 evangelistic series, that all of the connections, 00:15:17.95\00:15:20.22 we just purchased a 15 passenger van. 00:15:20.25\00:15:22.38 So the idea is that, 00:15:22.42\00:15:23.89 you know, we can transport them to these churches, 00:15:23.92\00:15:25.99 where we're having these meetings, 00:15:26.02\00:15:27.82 where they see, you know, 00:15:27.86\00:15:29.52 just the last event that we had, 00:15:29.56\00:15:32.56 you know, they realized I was a preacher, 00:15:32.59\00:15:34.23 they're like, man, I'd like to hear 00:15:34.26\00:15:35.60 you preach the Word. 00:15:35.63\00:15:36.97 And so, you know, those kind of type of connections 00:15:37.00\00:15:38.33 where now they're seeing me serving them, 00:15:38.37\00:15:40.90 or they're seeing 00:15:40.94\00:15:42.64 our volunteers serving and helping, 00:15:42.67\00:15:44.71 that they're willing to allow, listen to a Word because, 00:15:44.74\00:15:47.08 you know, the words are going to have 00:15:47.11\00:15:48.51 far more impact than what we're doing. 00:15:48.54\00:15:50.31 And so, earlier this year 00:15:50.35\00:15:51.68 we actually did a week of prayer, 00:15:51.71\00:15:53.45 entitled, "The Struggle is Real." 00:15:53.48\00:15:54.82 We kind of just walked on practical godliness. 00:15:54.85\00:15:56.72 My intention wasn't to dress up in a suit and tie. 00:15:56.75\00:15:59.45 I was gonna wear a hat and just, you know, 00:15:59.49\00:16:01.42 and let people feel comfortable coming in, 00:16:01.46\00:16:03.26 but they were hearing the message. 00:16:03.29\00:16:04.76 We had a couple of people of interest 00:16:04.79\00:16:06.63 who want to continue on Bible studies, 00:16:06.66\00:16:08.10 there's a picture there, "Not Today Satan." 00:16:08.13\00:16:10.03 So actually, it was an interesting story, 00:16:10.07\00:16:12.17 one of the friends of mine who I connected with, 00:16:12.20\00:16:14.37 he hasn't been in church in years. 00:16:14.40\00:16:15.94 And he said, "Man, what do I need to wear." 00:16:15.97\00:16:17.64 I was like, "Bro, I'm wearing a fitted hat." 00:16:17.67\00:16:19.01 He was like, "Bad, I'm coming in my jeans." 00:16:19.04\00:16:20.71 So he, he showed up, he sat in the back, 00:16:20.74\00:16:23.24 he said, there's a message I needed to hear. 00:16:23.28\00:16:24.71 And we've been, you know, connecting ever since 00:16:24.75\00:16:26.92 and doing Bible studies on the side and so... 00:16:26.95\00:16:30.05 I like that shirt too by the way. 00:16:30.09\00:16:32.19 It's just a theme of life, you know. 00:16:32.22\00:16:34.36 But those type of events that we're coordinating, 00:16:34.39\00:16:36.32 we had one with college pack live in February, 00:16:36.36\00:16:38.29 another harvest event 00:16:38.33\00:16:39.66 that we wanna be able to bring in guest speakers. 00:16:39.69\00:16:42.00 And a lot of people are volunteers 00:16:42.03\00:16:43.73 and people that we ministered, had an opportunity now 00:16:43.77\00:16:46.47 to come and plug into the local churches. 00:16:46.50\00:16:48.14 That's the vision of Salt that we want to create. 00:16:48.17\00:16:50.51 Every month, we're doing some sort of harvest event, 00:16:50.54\00:16:53.31 at least on a Friday night or week of prayer 00:16:53.34\00:16:55.54 or an evangelistic series that everyone 00:16:55.58\00:16:57.21 that we're helping serve, 00:16:57.25\00:16:59.95 they can plug into the local churches, 00:16:59.98\00:17:01.48 and then make that connection 00:17:01.52\00:17:02.85 that if they want to have Bible studies, 00:17:02.88\00:17:04.22 and they want to get baptized, 00:17:04.25\00:17:05.65 they have a church that they're plugged into. 00:17:05.69\00:17:07.49 And so, that's what's very unique 00:17:07.52\00:17:09.12 about our organization, 00:17:09.16\00:17:10.49 we're all different volunteers from different churches. 00:17:10.53\00:17:11.99 So, you know, he goes to the one church, 00:17:12.03\00:17:14.13 I go to another and so, 00:17:14.16\00:17:15.50 I'm very strategic to try to plan, 00:17:15.53\00:17:18.87 you know, events at the churches 00:17:18.90\00:17:20.24 that we attend, and plug in the people 00:17:20.27\00:17:22.40 that we ministered to, 00:17:22.44\00:17:23.94 and hopefully allow the church to grow 00:17:23.97\00:17:26.98 based on the efforts that we're putting in. 00:17:27.01\00:17:28.48 So that's kind of in summary what we're doing, 00:17:28.51\00:17:30.55 all of the service that we're doing 00:17:30.58\00:17:32.15 within the community of Orlando. 00:17:32.18\00:17:34.78 We're trying to connect them with the local churches 00:17:34.82\00:17:36.69 and show them that, 00:17:36.72\00:17:38.05 you know, at the end of the day, 00:17:38.09\00:17:39.65 we're practicing a message that we're, you know, 00:17:39.69\00:17:41.92 not just preaching the message, 00:17:41.96\00:17:43.29 we're actually practicing the message 00:17:43.32\00:17:45.06 that we're preaching, so. 00:17:45.09\00:17:46.43 That is awesome. 00:17:46.46\00:17:47.80 How do you prepare your sermons for that? 00:17:47.83\00:17:49.16 Man, you know, it all depends, I've realized that 00:17:49.20\00:17:51.20 all of the issues that we deal with the issues of the heart, 00:17:51.23\00:17:53.70 and once you can connect with people, 00:17:53.74\00:17:56.04 you know, dealing with people 00:17:56.07\00:17:57.41 with anxiety and depression and, 00:17:57.44\00:17:59.17 and just hope, you know, all of my sermons 00:17:59.21\00:18:01.38 are kind of geared towards that. 00:18:01.41\00:18:02.94 So I realized that I've kind of, 00:18:02.98\00:18:05.15 haven't really got outside of the message 00:18:05.18\00:18:07.42 of dealing with the issues of the heart 00:18:07.45\00:18:08.92 and how we can have victory over our sins 00:18:08.95\00:18:10.55 and how we can have me complete in Jesus 00:18:10.59\00:18:12.45 and I spoke this in, you know, doesn't matter where, 00:18:12.49\00:18:16.56 what aspect of your Christian life is, 00:18:16.59\00:18:19.29 that message resonates with everyone whether, 00:18:19.33\00:18:21.36 you know, the labels that you use, 00:18:21.40\00:18:22.73 whether you're a liberal, or conservative, 00:18:22.76\00:18:25.53 or you're, you know, non-Christian. 00:18:25.57\00:18:27.17 Yep. 00:18:27.20\00:18:28.54 When you speak about the heart, and that you can see 00:18:28.57\00:18:29.90 that there's actually hope in Jesus, 00:18:29.94\00:18:31.91 and that there's, there's something better 00:18:31.94\00:18:33.84 than what I'm experiencing. 00:18:33.88\00:18:35.24 All of my sermons have kind of been geared towards that. 00:18:35.28\00:18:37.35 And then always, at the appeal, 00:18:37.38\00:18:39.41 or at least in one of my presentations, 00:18:39.45\00:18:40.88 I always kind of talk about 00:18:40.92\00:18:43.72 what we're doing is actually a part of the Great Commission. 00:18:43.75\00:18:47.49 It's not just about a relationship with Christ, 00:18:47.52\00:18:49.26 but what do you do with that connection 00:18:49.29\00:18:50.63 with Christ in that relationship 00:18:50.66\00:18:52.13 is to actually go and actually serve other people. 00:18:52.16\00:18:54.00 Yes. 00:18:54.03\00:18:55.36 So by the time that we, you know, 00:18:55.40\00:18:56.73 done with the week of prayer, or that, 00:18:56.77\00:18:58.77 that harvest event, they understand, man, 00:18:58.80\00:19:01.70 God spoke to me, but now He wants me 00:19:01.74\00:19:03.44 to go out and do something, 00:19:03.47\00:19:04.81 because as I'm serving somebody else, 00:19:04.84\00:19:06.54 is actually beneficial for my Christian experience, 00:19:06.57\00:19:08.81 it's not about what I received this, 00:19:08.84\00:19:10.18 what I, what I'm receiving, 00:19:10.21\00:19:11.55 and how I can give to the other people around me. 00:19:11.58\00:19:13.38 So that's kind of how I kind of geared 00:19:13.42\00:19:15.18 all of my sermons and been intentional in, 00:19:15.22\00:19:18.15 in delivering that message. 00:19:18.19\00:19:19.52 Amen. 00:19:19.55\00:19:20.89 Eric, what stories 00:19:20.92\00:19:23.06 or testimonies do you have of lives 00:19:23.09\00:19:25.43 that have been transformed as a result of Salt? 00:19:25.46\00:19:27.50 Yeah. 00:19:27.53\00:19:28.86 So, you know, one of the kind of one 00:19:28.90\00:19:31.87 that we're living right now, that is, 00:19:31.90\00:19:34.67 we have a homeless friend that we took in. 00:19:34.70\00:19:38.14 And, you know, he was, you know, 00:19:38.17\00:19:41.54 he's actually sleeping on our couch. 00:19:41.58\00:19:43.38 You know, in the apartment, me and him are roommates. 00:19:43.41\00:19:45.81 But he became homeless 00:19:45.85\00:19:47.55 because he was diagnosed with cancer. 00:19:47.58\00:19:50.09 Once he was diagnosed with cancer, 00:19:50.12\00:19:51.99 girlfriend left him. 00:19:52.02\00:19:53.69 He couldn't continue his job as an MMA fighter 00:19:53.72\00:19:56.29 because of, he physically just couldn't do it anymore. 00:19:56.32\00:19:59.23 So he started living in the car. 00:19:59.26\00:20:01.56 That's when one of our other roommates, 00:20:01.60\00:20:03.03 you know, had a discussion with him. 00:20:03.06\00:20:04.97 And we decided to take him in. 00:20:05.00\00:20:06.33 And since then, he's going to his treatments, 00:20:06.37\00:20:10.24 he obtained the job, and he's getting paid 00:20:10.27\00:20:13.11 some pretty good money. 00:20:13.14\00:20:14.88 And in IT, that was another background of his. 00:20:14.91\00:20:18.01 And so, soon he's going to be moving out. 00:20:18.05\00:20:19.98 I anticipate, we anticipate like another few weeks, 00:20:20.02\00:20:22.08 he'll be out of there. 00:20:22.12\00:20:23.45 But the craziest, I'm sorry to cut you off. 00:20:23.49\00:20:25.52 The crazy story about that is that he was a former atheist, 00:20:25.55\00:20:27.52 so he never believed in God or anything. 00:20:27.56\00:20:30.16 And so, now he's actually studying to be baptized 00:20:30.19\00:20:32.76 with one of the local pastors. 00:20:32.79\00:20:34.13 Yes. 00:20:34.16\00:20:35.50 And so, seeing it's a difference 00:20:35.53\00:20:37.00 from being outside and serving people. 00:20:37.03\00:20:38.70 But now he actually lives with us. 00:20:38.73\00:20:40.67 He sees how we talk, he see how we eat, 00:20:40.70\00:20:42.90 what we watch, what we do, our conversations. 00:20:42.94\00:20:44.41 Yeah. Right. 00:20:44.44\00:20:45.77 And it's how to start, you know, is it easy? 00:20:45.81\00:20:47.78 Absolutely not, you know, 00:20:47.81\00:20:49.38 'cause you're living with somebody 00:20:49.41\00:20:50.75 you don't really know. 00:20:50.78\00:20:52.11 So there's kind of rules and guidelines. 00:20:52.15\00:20:53.48 But overall, they see that there's a tensionality like, 00:20:53.52\00:20:55.72 listen, we want to help you. 00:20:55.75\00:20:57.09 Yes. 00:20:57.12\00:20:58.45 And sometimes it's tough love, sometimes is, you know, 00:20:58.49\00:20:59.82 grace extended however that relationship calls for, 00:20:59.85\00:21:02.76 but at the end of the day, he said, man, 00:21:02.79\00:21:04.83 I have a relationship with God like 00:21:04.86\00:21:06.80 he labels himself as a Christian now, 00:21:06.83\00:21:09.00 which is kind of crazy. 00:21:09.03\00:21:10.37 If you were to talk to him six months ago, 00:21:10.40\00:21:11.83 he would be like, yeah, I am a complete atheist. 00:21:11.87\00:21:14.27 Now it's like, oh, bro, I'm a Christian. 00:21:14.30\00:21:15.64 Yeah, yeah. 00:21:15.67\00:21:17.01 And so he's studying, he's taking his treatments, 00:21:17.04\00:21:18.37 he's studying to be baptized and so, 00:21:18.41\00:21:20.74 we don't know how severe this cancer is going, you know. 00:21:20.78\00:21:24.75 Yeah, we don't know. 00:21:24.78\00:21:26.11 It's brain cancer. 00:21:26.15\00:21:27.95 Yeah. So it could be. 00:21:27.98\00:21:30.19 We don't know what the outcome will be. 00:21:30.22\00:21:31.95 But he's, you know, 00:21:31.99\00:21:34.29 he's growing in his relationship... 00:21:34.32\00:21:35.66 And he has peace about 00:21:35.69\00:21:37.03 whether I die or not, I got God. 00:21:37.06\00:21:38.39 And that's like has been his emphasis. 00:21:38.43\00:21:40.30 That's what we've been trying to emphasize. 00:21:40.33\00:21:41.66 It has been up and downs with him. 00:21:41.70\00:21:43.10 But that's been the testimony. 00:21:43.13\00:21:44.47 So I tell people, it is not. 00:21:44.50\00:21:46.17 God doesn't call us to say, 00:21:46.20\00:21:47.54 go serve for the sake of serving. 00:21:47.57\00:21:49.50 He's actually teaching us stuff 00:21:49.54\00:21:51.07 about ourselves that we didn't know. 00:21:51.11\00:21:52.61 Because trust me, in this situation, 00:21:52.64\00:21:54.51 I learned so much about myself that I'm like, 00:21:54.54\00:21:56.54 man, Lord, I'm really selfish. 00:21:56.58\00:21:57.91 I'm really self-centered. Yeah. 00:21:57.95\00:21:59.28 Like I got to give when I don't want to give. 00:21:59.31\00:22:01.52 But then when you do and you obey 00:22:01.55\00:22:03.69 what God asks you to do, you see, man, 00:22:03.72\00:22:06.09 somebody is actually being impacted, 00:22:06.12\00:22:07.72 somebody is actually seeing the character of God 00:22:07.76\00:22:09.92 and His love for them. 00:22:09.96\00:22:11.93 And I removed myself, my inconvenience 00:22:11.96\00:22:15.30 out of the way for a moment 00:22:15.33\00:22:16.90 to see how the Lord blessed him. 00:22:16.93\00:22:18.27 And so that's been the testimony where... 00:22:18.30\00:22:19.93 Yeah. This is not ideal. 00:22:19.97\00:22:21.30 We don't have much space or money or anything. 00:22:21.34\00:22:23.47 But this was a situation that is to say, 00:22:23.51\00:22:25.07 hey, let's try to help our brother out, 00:22:25.11\00:22:27.31 he was homeless, living in the car, 00:22:27.34\00:22:28.68 and now went from atheist to now being a Christian, 00:22:28.71\00:22:31.88 from not having a job 00:22:31.91\00:22:33.25 to now getting paid very good money, 00:22:33.28\00:22:35.18 you know, now, you know, on the process of, you know, 00:22:35.22\00:22:37.75 getting back on his feet in the next week or so. 00:22:37.79\00:22:40.62 That is huge. Yeah It's crazy. 00:22:40.66\00:22:42.96 God really was orchestrating all that. 00:22:42.99\00:22:44.89 I remember it, 00:22:44.93\00:22:46.26 because he also struggles with depression, 00:22:46.29\00:22:47.76 obviously, with everything going on. 00:22:47.80\00:22:49.53 I mean, and I remember looking up some, 00:22:49.56\00:22:52.73 some counseling things. 00:22:52.77\00:22:54.10 I'm like, maybe we can find some free counseling for you 00:22:54.14\00:22:57.04 and I thought, I saw free counseling. 00:22:57.07\00:23:00.28 I'm like, "Hey, I think I found some, call him." 00:23:00.31\00:23:01.68 He said, "Okay, I'll call him." 00:23:01.71\00:23:03.04 He called and he started going. 00:23:03.08\00:23:04.98 The person actually charges, I think, it's 200 an hour 00:23:05.01\00:23:09.85 or something like that, something crazy like that. 00:23:09.88\00:23:12.05 And the thing is though, as he sat there with her, 00:23:12.09\00:23:15.36 supposed to be an hour session, three hours, and said, 00:23:15.39\00:23:19.43 "Don't worry about paying me. 00:23:19.46\00:23:21.33 I like you. 00:23:21.36\00:23:22.70 Keep coming. Just keep coming." 00:23:22.73\00:23:24.57 The next session next week, he tried to counsel with her. 00:23:24.60\00:23:27.07 He's feeling depressed.
