Absolutely. 00:02:35.35\00:02:36.69 So we get a lot of calls from Dare to Dream audience as well, 00:02:36.72\00:02:39.62 and so we're happy about that as well. 00:02:39.65\00:02:41.72 That's great because there's so... 00:02:41.76\00:02:43.19 You give so many tips on, you know, hypertension, 00:02:43.22\00:02:46.43 what to do about diabetes, hypertension, cancer. 00:02:46.46\00:02:50.63 So your program, and what I love about it, 00:02:50.67\00:02:53.64 is it's not just cooking, 00:02:53.67\00:02:56.07 it's cooking and health information. 00:02:56.10\00:02:59.04 So, you know, when people watch Abundant Living, 00:02:59.07\00:03:01.48 they should have a little notebook 00:03:01.51\00:03:02.94 to take some notes 00:03:02.98\00:03:04.38 because there's some real interesting 00:03:04.41\00:03:08.75 and informative and necessary information 00:03:08.78\00:03:11.55 that you guys give. 00:03:11.59\00:03:13.42 One of the things 00:03:13.46\00:03:14.79 that I'm so thrilled about 00:03:14.82\00:03:16.22 is the health evangelism that you've been doing. 00:03:16.26\00:03:19.13 Tell us about what you're doing in the communities 00:03:19.16\00:03:22.03 and how it all came about. 00:03:22.06\00:03:24.67 Well, 00:03:24.70\00:03:26.37 about a year and a half ago, 00:03:26.40\00:03:28.77 I've been doing my reading in my room, my study, 00:03:28.80\00:03:31.67 and we've been going to churches 00:03:31.71\00:03:33.48 throughout our district, in the south mainly. 00:03:33.51\00:03:36.91 And going to the church talking about health, 00:03:36.95\00:03:39.51 healthful living, etcetera, then we come back home, 00:03:39.55\00:03:43.92 and it just wasn't as fulfilling. 00:03:43.95\00:03:46.45 Why? 00:03:46.49\00:03:47.82 Because we're not reaching the community, 00:03:47.86\00:03:50.23 just reaching the people in the church. 00:03:50.26\00:03:52.16 Okay. 00:03:52.19\00:03:53.53 So when we come back home, 00:03:53.56\00:03:54.90 people in the community is probably about 1% 00:03:54.93\00:03:56.63 if they happened to be at that church, 00:03:56.67\00:03:58.83 for that, we can. 00:03:58.87\00:04:00.50 So we really need to go more into the community. 00:04:00.54\00:04:03.41 When you go more into the community, 00:04:03.44\00:04:05.57 you draw more to community there, up to 30%, passed 70% 00:04:05.61\00:04:11.11 when it's in the community, away from the church. 00:04:11.15\00:04:14.12 So what you're saying is you're going into churches... 00:04:14.15\00:04:17.25 Right. 00:04:17.29\00:04:18.62 And you're preaching to the choir basically. 00:04:18.65\00:04:19.99 Yes, that's right. Absolutely. 00:04:20.02\00:04:21.36 Because it's just like people, 00:04:21.39\00:04:22.72 "Oh, we're having a health weekend 00:04:22.76\00:04:24.59 with the Eakins. 00:04:24.63\00:04:25.96 We're going to have a cooking class. 00:04:25.99\00:04:27.33 We come in." 00:04:27.36\00:04:28.70 It's just like, you know, 00:04:28.73\00:04:30.07 the regular people from the church, 00:04:30.10\00:04:31.43 but nobody maybe 30%, from the community. 00:04:31.47\00:04:35.20 And that's it. 00:04:35.24\00:04:36.57 Well, in the church, yeah, 00:04:36.60\00:04:38.74 really nobody from the community 00:04:38.77\00:04:40.58 unless there's a visitor on that day. 00:04:40.61\00:04:42.84 Okay. 00:04:42.88\00:04:44.21 Otherwise it's all the church members. 00:04:44.25\00:04:45.58 Got you. 00:04:45.61\00:04:46.95 Which is fine, but it's not as fulfilling 00:04:46.98\00:04:48.35 because Jesus' ministry was to the community. 00:04:48.38\00:04:51.22 Right. 00:04:51.25\00:04:52.59 Not just to the Jews but also to the gentiles 00:04:52.62\00:04:54.42 and everybody else as well. 00:04:54.46\00:04:55.92 So we were impressed by the Holy Spirit 00:04:55.96\00:04:58.99 to take it to the community. 00:04:59.03\00:05:01.50 And it just opened up the floodgates, 00:05:01.53\00:05:03.37 I mean, it really did. And we're just so excited. 00:05:03.40\00:05:06.60 It's much more for fulfilling 00:05:06.63\00:05:08.24 when you see people of all classes come in, 00:05:08.27\00:05:11.74 from all ethnicities, all denominations, 00:05:11.77\00:05:15.28 all church affiliations coming to learn about health 00:05:15.31\00:05:18.31 because even agnostics, 00:05:18.35\00:05:21.22 infidels also have high blood pressure. 00:05:21.25\00:05:24.42 That's right. 00:05:24.45\00:05:25.79 And you know what, it's interesting 00:05:25.82\00:05:27.16 because Jason was just telling me the other day 00:05:27.19\00:05:30.56 that he was looking for a vegan restaurant 00:05:30.59\00:05:35.20 to go to while traveling, 00:05:35.23\00:05:37.30 and there was a sign of Baphomet on a website, 00:05:37.33\00:05:41.74 the satanic symbol, at a vegan restaurant. 00:05:41.77\00:05:44.81 So even, you know... 00:05:44.84\00:05:48.08 This crosses all lines, 00:05:48.11\00:05:49.94 all kinds of people want to know 00:05:49.98\00:05:52.28 about healthy eating, you know, even if they're Satanists 00:05:52.31\00:05:56.69 or whatever, but they... 00:05:56.72\00:05:58.15 That's true though. That is the point though. 00:05:58.19\00:05:59.85 They're crossing all lines. That's true. Yes. 00:05:59.89\00:06:01.72 What you have to offer 00:06:01.76\00:06:04.49 is the gift of all gifts. 00:06:04.53\00:06:06.03 Jesus Christ, 00:06:06.06\00:06:07.70 He's at the center of what you're teaching. 00:06:07.73\00:06:10.87 So let's go back for a minute 00:06:10.90\00:06:12.87 because I want our folks to hear 00:06:12.90\00:06:16.00 and know how you came to desire to do more within the churches 00:06:16.04\00:06:22.88 because to reach outside of the churches, 00:06:22.91\00:06:26.61 to do more evangelism 00:06:26.65\00:06:29.35 because what's happening is you're going to these churches 00:06:29.38\00:06:33.05 and only the church members were showing up. 00:06:33.09\00:06:36.19 That's right. 00:06:36.22\00:06:37.56 When you went back home, what were you thinking? 00:06:37.59\00:06:40.06 It's just not enough. 00:06:40.10\00:06:42.00 It's not as fulfilling. 00:06:42.03\00:06:45.23 It's just not enough. It's just not as fulfilling. 00:06:45.27\00:06:47.84 That's all I can say. 00:06:47.87\00:06:49.20 And more I read about... 00:06:49.24\00:06:51.27 One Christian author in particular, 00:06:51.31\00:06:53.04 in the life of Jesus Christ and His ministry, 00:06:53.07\00:06:55.34 I realized we need to really move out from the church 00:06:55.38\00:06:58.68 into the community. 00:06:58.71\00:07:00.05 So reading, playing, 00:07:00.08\00:07:01.58 and we just took it to the community. 00:07:01.62\00:07:05.39 So it was just simply unfulfilling. 00:07:05.42\00:07:08.42 That's all I can say. 00:07:08.46\00:07:09.79 Was it the same for you, Paula? It was exactly. 00:07:09.82\00:07:11.69 I told Curtis, "It's almost like we're just playing tag 00:07:11.73\00:07:13.90 with the church." 00:07:13.93\00:07:15.33 And we know that there are pastors 00:07:15.36\00:07:16.70 that really are into evangelism, 00:07:16.73\00:07:19.13 but it just seemed like they're just some... 00:07:19.17\00:07:21.10 We'll be coming that weekend, 00:07:21.14\00:07:22.47 there would just be the members. 00:07:22.50\00:07:23.84 And we would... After a long trip, 00:07:23.87\00:07:25.87 and then just come and doing same thing 00:07:25.91\00:07:27.28 over and over and over again. 00:07:27.31\00:07:28.64 We just kept saying, "Enough of this." 00:07:28.68\00:07:30.21 Right. 00:07:30.25\00:07:31.58 And once Curtis said to me about, 00:07:31.61\00:07:32.95 "You know, let's move it 00:07:32.98\00:07:34.32 outside the church into the community." 00:07:34.35\00:07:35.68 Honestly and truly, it just really made a big difference. 00:07:35.72\00:07:37.69 Yeah, so how did you do it? 00:07:37.72\00:07:39.05 What did you do? 00:07:39.09\00:07:40.42 Well, number one, 00:07:40.46\00:07:42.06 we got some funds from 00:07:42.09\00:07:44.59 the North American Division Ministerial Department, Head, 00:07:44.63\00:07:47.93 we knew him personally. 00:07:47.96\00:07:49.50 From the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, 00:07:49.53\00:07:52.53 for those of you who don't know. 00:07:52.57\00:07:53.90 And let me back up, the churches we're talking about 00:07:53.94\00:07:55.34 are Seventh-day Adventist churches too, 00:07:55.37\00:07:57.11 those churches in particular. 00:07:57.14\00:07:58.51 Right. 00:07:58.54\00:07:59.87 All right, so I'm glad you made that statement. 00:07:59.91\00:08:01.24 So of course, 00:08:01.28\00:08:02.91 we just more or less contacted the Marriott Hotels... 00:08:02.94\00:08:07.48 Okay. 00:08:07.52\00:08:08.85 In these cities that we're going to. 00:08:08.88\00:08:10.35 Now it's been about a year now since we've been doing this. 00:08:10.39\00:08:13.56 The health message is such a high quality message. 00:08:13.59\00:08:18.79 Let me just say this 00:08:18.83\00:08:20.16 because some people may think that in a wrong way, 00:08:20.20\00:08:22.16 it's such a high quality message. 00:08:22.20\00:08:24.80 We couldn't just take it to a community center. 00:08:24.83\00:08:30.74 It had to be of a quality facility 00:08:30.77\00:08:34.38 because of the quality of the message. 00:08:34.41\00:08:36.28 Come on. Yes. 00:15:43.41\00:15:45.57 The main thing is that, one of the eye-openers 00:15:45.61\00:15:48.01 that we talk about in Healthy Heart Conference 00:15:48.04\00:15:49.74 is that heart disease can 00:15:49.78\00:15:52.51 and has been reversed by lifestyle. 00:15:52.55\00:15:56.92 And we put a particular interest 00:15:56.95\00:15:58.85 on one particular food group, 00:15:58.89\00:16:01.82 the fruit kingdom in particular, all right? 00:16:01.86\00:16:04.89 That's what she talk about, "Oh, the red grape." 00:16:04.93\00:16:07.30 That's one of the things that we mentioned. 00:16:07.33\00:16:08.93 That's what she's talking about the red grape 00:16:08.96\00:16:11.00 and other things too. 00:16:11.03\00:16:12.37 So it can be reversed, plant-based diet, 00:16:12.40\00:16:15.34 in particular, the fruit kingdom. 00:16:15.37\00:16:18.24 So that's one of the things that we really emphasize. 00:16:18.27\00:16:20.58 And, honey, about the woman's heart... 00:16:20.61\00:16:23.04 Yeah, okay, one of the things 00:16:23.08\00:16:24.61 that really draws them the second day 00:16:24.65\00:16:26.15 is that we do all this talk about cholesterol and AFib 00:16:26.18\00:16:29.48 and everything having to deal with the heart, 00:16:29.52\00:16:31.75 and then we say, "But on tomorrow, 00:16:31.79\00:16:34.12 we're actually going to do the heart of a woman 00:16:34.16\00:16:36.66 because we experience heart attacks 00:16:36.69\00:16:39.03 totally different from a man, 00:16:39.06\00:16:40.40 heart attacks and strokes." 00:16:40.43\00:16:41.90 So they're coming because they want to know, 00:16:41.93\00:16:43.47 "Okay, wait a minute, 00:16:43.50\00:16:44.83 she's saying something different. 00:16:44.87\00:16:46.20 It's not that big elephant in my chest. 00:16:46.23\00:16:47.57 No, it's not. Not for us. Okay." 00:16:47.60\00:16:49.00 What is it for us? 00:16:49.04\00:16:50.37 It is shoulder pain. 00:16:50.41\00:16:52.54 You can actually be having regurgitating continuously 00:16:52.57\00:16:55.14 several months before that, nausea, before that. 00:16:55.18\00:16:58.51 This is coming on way before you have 00:16:58.55\00:17:00.55 that first heart attack, all right? 00:17:00.58\00:17:02.58 And the breathing problems 00:17:02.62\00:17:04.69 where you're having a hard time breathing. 00:17:04.72\00:17:07.06 And people... Women are like, you know, 00:17:07.09\00:17:08.42 "I never even have thought of those things." 00:17:08.46\00:17:09.79 But we say the minute, 00:17:09.82\00:17:11.23 between the vomiting and the nausea, 00:17:11.26\00:17:13.60 shoulder pain, having problems breathing, 00:17:13.63\00:17:15.86 you need to get to a doctor. 00:17:15.90\00:17:17.33 And when you go, we have to... 00:17:17.37\00:17:19.40 As females, we have to say, 00:17:19.43\00:17:20.90 "I think I'm having a heart attack. 00:17:20.94\00:17:22.44 I really do," because only when you say that, 00:17:22.47\00:17:24.94 they will not send you home. 00:17:24.97\00:17:26.31 Normally, they just send you home. 00:17:26.34\00:17:27.78 And you know that you've got the signs already. 00:17:27.81\00:17:29.91 I need to... "Can I do a EKG," 00:17:29.94\00:17:32.28 'cause the EKG will show that there's something going on. 00:17:32.31\00:17:36.18 That's good. 00:17:36.22\00:17:37.55 That is great information because a lot of times, 00:17:37.59\00:17:39.15 as women, we can misdiagnose ourselves. 00:17:39.19\00:17:43.19 Yes. 00:17:43.22\00:17:44.56 And, you know, we'll just say, "I have a little indigestion. 00:17:44.59\00:17:46.56 I just feel a little bit under the weather, 00:17:46.59\00:17:48.56 but I can keep going." 00:17:48.60\00:17:50.60 No, if you have these signs, you know, even jaw pain... 00:17:50.63\00:17:54.87 Yes, that's another one. 00:17:54.90\00:17:56.91 They will send you to the dentist. 00:17:56.94\00:17:58.27 Right. 00:17:58.31\00:17:59.64 But it's a symptom of a heart attack. 00:17:59.67\00:18:01.01 Yes, absolutely, yes. 00:18:01.04\00:18:02.58 Really, really important. 00:18:02.61\00:18:04.71 And I think a lot of times as minority woman 00:18:04.75\00:18:08.08 will tend to put things on the back-burner 00:18:08.12\00:18:10.65 and think, "It's not that deep, it's not that important. 00:18:10.69\00:18:13.42 I'll be okay. Let me just keep on going." 00:18:13.46\00:18:15.86 Well, we need to keep up with these things 00:18:15.89\00:18:18.59 and make sure that, you know, we're doing well with them. 00:18:18.63\00:18:21.40 So go ahead. 00:18:21.43\00:18:22.90 One other thing too, we have a lot of visual aids. 00:18:22.93\00:18:26.00 Yes, we do. 00:18:26.03\00:18:27.37 And also the audience come up... 00:18:27.40\00:18:29.90 We have a icebreaker, 00:18:29.94\00:18:31.31 just talk briefly about the icebreaker. 00:18:31.34\00:18:33.27 You know, they don't know who we are. 00:18:33.31\00:18:35.31 They've heard about us, 00:18:35.34\00:18:36.68 and here we come to this conference, 00:18:36.71\00:18:38.05 we're over hundred-strong 00:18:38.08\00:18:39.41 when we come into the meetings, okay? 00:18:39.45\00:18:40.78 And so when they first meet us, 00:18:40.82\00:18:42.15 they're like, "Well, who is this? 00:18:42.18\00:18:43.52 Who are they?" Okay? 00:18:43.55\00:18:44.89 They heard a little bit. 00:18:44.92\00:18:46.25 The bottom line is that we have this thing, 00:18:46.29\00:18:47.62 the first one is called five things 00:18:47.66\00:18:48.99 that you should know 00:18:49.02\00:18:50.36 but you really don't want to know. 00:18:50.39\00:18:52.23 I need five volunteers. 00:18:52.26\00:18:54.20 And some of them are not quite sure, 00:18:54.23\00:18:56.13 but if you don't come, I'm going to pick you up. 00:18:56.16\00:18:58.23 They raise a hand, they come up, 00:18:58.27\00:18:59.60 you know, and then they get vials of fat. 00:18:59.63\00:19:02.24 We're talking about the heart now. 00:19:02.27\00:19:03.61 They get vials of fat. 00:19:03.64\00:19:04.97 And it shows how much fat 00:19:05.01\00:19:06.54 is actually in a burger and French fries. 00:19:06.57\00:19:09.78 And they're supposed to just look at the vial 00:19:09.81\00:19:11.41 and then tell what's going on, 00:19:11.45\00:19:13.21 and behind them comes the sodium 00:19:13.25\00:19:15.18 and the cholesterol and unsaturated fat. 00:19:15.22\00:19:17.22 On the screen, so everybody sees it. 00:19:17.25\00:19:18.59 Everybody is seeing it, but they're in back of them. 00:19:18.62\00:19:21.09 Right, back of them, on the screen. 00:19:21.12\00:19:22.46 And they turn around... And like one lady, 00:19:22.49\00:19:23.83 we gave these chicken nuggets, 00:19:23.86\00:19:25.19 like six chicken nuggets, 00:19:25.23\00:19:27.73 she couldn't believe it. 00:19:27.76\00:19:29.10 What? 00:19:29.13\00:19:30.47 She said, "That's the end of that. 00:19:30.50\00:19:31.83 I'm not going to feed my children all that anymore." 00:19:31.87\00:19:33.64 You know what? 00:19:33.67\00:19:35.00 I think when people see for themselves, 00:19:35.04\00:19:36.84 and you show them what they are eating... 00:19:36.87\00:19:40.31 It was eye-opener for her. It's eye-opening. 00:19:40.34\00:19:42.41 "I'm not feeding my children anymore of chicken nuggets." 00:19:42.44\00:19:44.41 That was the start. 00:19:44.45\00:19:45.78 We just started... 00:19:45.81\00:19:47.15 That was just the start... 00:19:47.18\00:19:48.52 We haven't even got started yet. 00:19:48.55\00:19:49.88 But you know this whole idea, 00:19:49.92\00:19:51.25 this whole cardiovascular issue is so important as, 00:19:51.29\00:19:54.26 you know, most of our viewers know, 00:19:54.29\00:19:56.09 my husband had quadruple bypass, 00:19:56.12\00:19:58.83 and thankfully, his is not from diet. 00:19:58.86\00:20:03.00 His is genetics. 00:20:03.03\00:20:04.43 And that's another thing. 00:20:04.47\00:20:05.80 So can genetically-induced heart disease also be reversed? 00:20:05.83\00:20:10.31 Yeah, let me say, as the saying goes, 00:20:10.34\00:20:11.67 I have rephrased the same, 00:20:11.71\00:20:14.11 "Bad genes loads a gun, 00:20:14.14\00:20:17.58 a healthy lifestyle keeps the finger off the trigger." 00:20:17.61\00:20:21.52 So I think Danny mentioned in one of the programs, 00:20:21.55\00:20:25.79 or some of his siblings or whatever, 00:20:25.82\00:20:27.86 had heart disease, whatever... 00:20:27.89\00:20:29.56 And his dad. 00:20:29.59\00:20:30.93 At a younger age than him 00:20:30.96\00:20:32.29 because of his lifestyle of later on in the years, 00:20:32.33\00:20:35.20 and then, so, I mean, 00:20:35.23\00:20:37.50 we can also reversed, my grandmother, 00:20:37.53\00:20:39.63 I may have bad genes as well, very bad genes, 00:20:39.67\00:20:42.27 but because of her lifestyle, she lived to be one 110. 00:20:42.30\00:20:45.47 Wow! 00:20:45.51\00:20:46.84 She was such a cutie too, remember? 00:20:46.88\00:20:49.21 Yes, yes.
