get introduced to the message?

raised in the Pentecostal faith

but actually I
was not introduced

or actually formally
joined the Adventist church

until my early adulthood.

And so how did you come
into the message, Stephanie?

Well, it was after
we had started dating

and it was about a
year into it Ryan had,

had an emergency surgery,
and at that point we had talked

and decided we really
need to get back into church,

and we kind of visited
a couple other churches,

but something
just didn't seem right.

His family had previously
heard of keeping Sabbath

and were
introduced to Adventism,

but they weren't
members of the church.

And so at that point he,

I guess kind of
went back to his roots

of hearing about Sabbath

and brought that to me and said,

and I really think
that we should do this.

We should be keeping Sabbath."

And so I studied it for myself

'cause at first I was
like, "I'm not sure about that."

that I was raised
in is completely wrong.

And so it wasn't
everything that I was raised in,

where I can pull out a Bible out

it's not just hearing about God,

that there is truth here.

And that's kind of how
I got introduced I guess.

sometimes tradition

you see some people

who say, "Well, I'm

But they still haven't
researched it for themselves,

to have that personal,

individual
relationship with Christ.

And it's just
fascinating to me how tradition

has kind of taken over
in different denominations.

So you came to
the Adventist faith,

because my
parents were introduced

to the message of the Sabbath.

And many other pillar doctrines
of the Adventist church.

At my early age of probably
eight or nine-years-old,

but my father and mother
as honest as they could be,

they still kind of
struggled with a few things,

just trying to determine

where was God was wanting
them to be and lead them.

And so we were
kind of in and out,

we visited some
Seventh-day Adventist Churches,

but never really settled in.

And so it wasn't until actually
my senior year of high school

that the Lord kind
of gripped my heart

and I picked up the
Bible for the first time,

having read it
through many times,
00:05:26.09\00:05:27.86
and studied it many
times, I finally picked it up,

and I said, "You
know, I want to come to know

what the Bible really teaches
on many of these subjects

that I have questions about."

And so, I'll
never forget one night,

it was like 2
o'clock in the morning,

my dad had a full
VHS prophecy series set.

That's taking it back.

And so I remember one night,

them off the shelf,

Finley, I'll never forget.

And I put it in the VHS player,

and I was watching this program

and Mark Finley was
preaching on the Sabbath,

and kind of
previous to this, my dad,

you know, had been trying
to witness to me about this,

"You know, son,
remember that Sabbath

that we learned
about growing up?"

You know, and I kind of
was disconnected about it

because it pulled
me away from sports,

I loved basketball

and it pulled me
away from sports,

most games were on Saturday.

I was kind of
struggled with that,

and at the time I was coaching

a little league
basketball team with my friend

and I remember my dad,
you know, not in a pushy way,

but just in a kind
loving way he would say,

"Son, you know,
today's the Sabbath

and just remember,
remember the Sabbath."

And so I remember
thinking to myself,

you know, I've got to
learn more about this.

And so I remember
watching the VHS tape,

that video of Mark
Finley preaching on the Sabbath,

and it just gripped my heart.

I saw for the
first time in my Bible

what the Bible
really taught about that,

and so that kind of
began a kind of domino effect

of going from one
subject to the next

and learning what
the Bible really taught.

And it brought a conviction

and it brought within me
a new creation from Christ.

And that's kind
of where it began.

that I really earnestly

that love for the truth,

no matter what it was,

it wasn't always easy to accept,

would pray God lead me,

guide me, and show me Your will.

And so, that's what I've
had held on to all these years.

incredible how God works

we desire something,

something in our mind

where we want to be,

what we want to be doing,

and where we think we're
headed is not in the direction

that God intends us to go.

Now God doesn't

We kind of had a packed schedule

and I kind of had in my mind

probably going to be heading

thought at the moment,

we thought God was
leading us to Texas

because we had
received a call to Texas,

around the King Texas area

in a little small
town known as Cleburne,

and, you know, some leadership

from the church
reached out to me

and said, "Hey,
we're looking for a pastor,

your name came up,
are you interested in?

we'd like you to come up."

And so Stephanie and I,

you know, we took that
call and so we went out,

met the people, and
they were so wonderful,

so kind, and it was just
like the perfect situation.

So I was just overwhelmed,

It's a beautiful
church, wonderful people,

interviewed for the position.

The church accepted,

voting us in as pastor,

serious it was at this moment.

saw almost like a temptation,
