What's happening with some of the dynamic 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.37 ASI Ministries around the world? 00:00:03.40\00:00:06.00 Well, stay tuned to find out. 00:00:06.03\00:00:08.04 My name is Yvonne Lewis 00:00:08.07\00:00:09.40 and you're watching Urban Report. 00:00:09.44\00:00:11.94 Hello, and welcome to Urban Report. 00:00:37.57\00:00:40.37 Jason and I recently attended ASI in Houston, Texas 00:00:40.40\00:00:44.57 where we had a chance to talk to some of the movers 00:00:44.61\00:00:47.34 and shakers in ministry. 00:00:47.38\00:00:49.28 Take a look at what they're up to. 00:00:49.31\00:00:53.95 Tara Peterson and her team are doing some amazing, 00:00:53.98\00:00:57.42 amazing work, with Kuda Vana and it's an orphanage. 00:00:57.45\00:01:01.92 And she's going to tell us about it. 00:01:01.96\00:01:03.39 Tell us about Kuda Vana. Where is it? 00:01:03.43\00:01:05.29 Thank you so much, Yvonne, I appreciate your opportunity 00:01:05.33\00:01:07.50 to be here today. 00:01:07.53\00:01:08.86 My name is Tara Petersen and the Director of Development 00:01:08.90\00:01:11.20 for Kuda Vana partnership. 00:01:11.23\00:01:13.03 Kuda Vana means loving children 00:01:13.07\00:01:14.77 in a local Zimbabwean language of Shona. 00:01:14.80\00:01:17.01 And that's exactly what our partnership is doing. 00:01:17.04\00:01:19.77 We operate at children's home for 50 kids 00:01:19.81\00:01:22.54 and also support food security through a feeding program 00:01:22.58\00:01:25.41 for over 40 children and their families in Zimbabwe. 00:01:25.45\00:01:28.78 So there are over 50 children 00:01:28.82\00:01:31.29 that are living here at this orphanage. 00:01:31.32\00:01:34.12 Yes, that's correct. 00:01:34.16\00:01:35.49 We have infants all the way up through 18 years. 00:01:35.52\00:01:38.09 And after they age out of our orphanage, 00:01:38.13\00:01:39.86 we also provide support for them 00:01:39.89\00:01:41.43 to go to college if they will, that sort of thing. 00:01:41.46\00:01:44.17 So when it says here, 00:01:44.20\00:01:45.87 it's not your typical orphanage. 00:01:45.90\00:01:48.07 What do you mean by that? 00:01:48.10\00:01:49.60 Well, as our name suggests, we're not just providing them 00:01:49.64\00:01:52.87 with food and security 00:01:52.91\00:01:54.24 as a lot of orphanage globally do. 00:01:54.28\00:01:56.24 We're providing them with loving family homes 00:01:56.28\00:01:59.08 that really mimics what real family can be like. 00:01:59.11\00:02:01.18 So our operation actually has children living 00:02:01.22\00:02:04.25 in group homes with mamas 00:02:04.29\00:02:05.85 where they can grow up in a family setting 00:02:05.89\00:02:08.22 and learn what it's like to be part of a family. 00:02:08.26\00:02:10.66 We're also educating them. 00:02:10.69\00:02:12.03 We have a wonderful program and we're actually 00:02:12.06\00:02:14.00 in the middle of building a school, 00:02:14.03\00:02:15.36 so that we can not only educate the children in our community, 00:02:15.40\00:02:18.30 but also our children to serve as a revenue source 00:02:18.33\00:02:20.97 for the orphanage moving forward. 00:02:21.00\00:02:22.67 Oh, that's wonderful. 00:02:22.70\00:02:24.04 So they're not only learning their ABCs 00:02:24.07\00:02:27.71 and all that, they're also learning 00:02:27.74\00:02:29.44 how to generate income. 00:02:29.48\00:02:31.31 Yes, so a big part of our goal 00:02:31.35\00:02:32.91 is to teach these children 00:02:32.95\00:02:34.32 to become self-sufficient adults, 00:02:34.35\00:02:36.28 so they can in turn act 00:02:36.32\00:02:37.65 and help in their own communities. 00:02:37.69\00:02:39.45 And most of all, we want to teach them 00:02:39.49\00:02:40.99 that they have a loving Savior, who is their Father 00:02:41.02\00:02:43.76 and created them for a special purpose. 00:02:43.79\00:02:46.03 So you're giving them 00:02:46.06\00:02:47.40 spiritual education as well of course. 00:02:47.43\00:02:50.63 Yes, absolutely, which is why we are so excited about 00:02:50.67\00:02:53.77 our school project. 00:02:53.80\00:02:55.14 We already have land that's been given to us 00:02:55.17\00:02:57.34 to develop a new school. 00:02:57.37\00:02:58.97 And our goal is to actually have a kindergarten 00:02:59.01\00:03:01.28 through twelfth grade primary and secondary school 00:03:01.31\00:03:04.38 to give children the best possible education 00:03:04.41\00:03:06.41 and prepare them for their future. 00:03:06.45\00:03:08.15 Oh, that's incredible. 00:03:08.18\00:03:09.62 So have you had any children that have come up 00:03:09.65\00:03:12.85 and left the orphanage and gone out into the world? 00:03:12.89\00:03:16.29 Can you tell us about that? Yeah. 00:03:16.32\00:03:18.03 So the orphanage has been around 00:03:18.06\00:03:19.56 for about a dozen years. 00:03:19.59\00:03:21.33 And we do have a few children that have graduated out 00:03:21.36\00:03:23.87 and are now going to school. 00:03:23.90\00:03:25.27 So we have a few, one girl in particular, 00:03:25.30\00:03:27.40 who's actually in nursing school. 00:03:27.44\00:03:29.34 And we've been supporting her 00:03:29.37\00:03:30.71 as she goes on to her college plans. 00:03:30.74\00:03:32.54 And we will continue to do that as well for the children 00:03:32.57\00:03:34.71 that we currently have in high school. 00:03:34.74\00:03:36.78 So when the children leave, 00:03:36.81\00:03:39.21 they don't just leave the school 00:03:39.25\00:03:41.05 and just go on into the world without support. 00:03:41.08\00:03:43.18 You're saying that you continue to support them 00:03:43.22\00:03:46.55 even in the world. 00:03:46.59\00:03:47.99 That's right, Yvonne, that's also what makes 00:03:48.02\00:03:49.72 Kuda Vana partnership different. 00:03:49.76\00:03:51.76 We are truly a family for these children 00:03:51.79\00:03:53.96 and we will look after them as long as they need. 00:03:54.00\00:03:55.93 They can always come home to us, 00:03:55.96\00:03:57.83 and talk with us, get counsel for us. 00:03:57.87\00:04:00.74 And again, hopefully get back 00:04:00.77\00:04:02.44 to the children's home in the future. 00:04:02.47\00:04:04.41 So what's a typical day like in a day 00:04:04.44\00:04:07.51 for a child that Kuda Vana? 00:04:07.54\00:04:09.28 They wake up. What do they do? 00:04:09.31\00:04:11.05 That's a wonderful question. 00:04:11.08\00:04:12.41 I actually just came back from visiting Kuda Vana myself. 00:04:12.45\00:04:15.72 We have children again ages zero to eighteen. 00:04:15.75\00:04:18.05 They have morning chores, 00:04:18.09\00:04:19.42 they get up early in the morning, 00:04:19.45\00:04:20.79 they help their households. 00:04:20.82\00:04:22.16 You can imagine, if you're a mama 00:04:22.19\00:04:23.63 with a house of ten kids, you need a lot of help. 00:04:23.66\00:04:26.73 So all the kids they wash their own clothes, 00:04:26.76\00:04:28.76 they help with cooking. 00:04:28.80\00:04:30.30 They really learn essential life skills, 00:04:30.33\00:04:32.07 so they can eventually be self-sufficient. 00:04:32.10\00:04:34.20 Then they get up and they go to school. 00:04:34.24\00:04:35.80 So currently, we have actually hired several teachers, 00:04:35.84\00:04:38.54 who are home schooling our younger kids 00:04:38.57\00:04:40.71 with the best possible curriculum. 00:04:40.74\00:04:42.74 They get up, they go to school, 00:04:42.78\00:04:44.48 learn Math, English, Arithmetic, 00:04:44.51\00:04:46.55 all of those things, and of course, Bible classes. 00:04:46.58\00:04:49.45 And then they go home. 00:04:49.48\00:04:50.82 They have their meals together. 00:04:50.85\00:04:52.19 They have evening worship every day together. 00:04:52.22\00:04:54.26 And then every Friday of course, 00:04:54.29\00:04:55.62 they actually celebrate Sabbath together as well 00:04:55.66\00:04:57.56 as a large family unit. 00:04:57.59\00:04:59.23 Wow, now Sabbath, 00:04:59.26\00:05:01.36 how do they observe the Sabbath? 00:05:01.40\00:05:03.43 Is there a special church on site. 00:05:03.47\00:05:06.03 How do they observe the Sabbath? 00:05:06.07\00:05:07.40 We do have a church on site. 00:05:07.44\00:05:09.14 It's a beautiful a beautiful location 00:05:09.17\00:05:11.04 where the kids can worship together. 00:05:11.07\00:05:12.41 They love to sing and praise Jesus. 00:05:12.44\00:05:15.01 They're very musical. 00:05:15.04\00:05:16.44 We also have a wonderful relationship 00:05:16.48\00:05:18.41 with the local Seventh-day Adventist church 00:05:18.45\00:05:20.32 in Mutare, Zimbabwe 00:05:20.35\00:05:21.92 and they truly care about our children. 00:05:21.95\00:05:23.59 We visit there at least once a month I would say. 00:05:23.62\00:05:26.15 They also often take our children home 00:05:26.19\00:05:28.16 over school holidays. 00:05:28.19\00:05:29.52 We've had some that have tried to foster or adopt our kids. 00:05:29.56\00:05:32.39 Which is also one of our goals 00:05:32.43\00:05:33.76 is to help with the foster and adoption process, 00:05:33.80\00:05:36.13 so they can actually have forever families. 00:05:36.16\00:05:38.37 Aw, that's incredible. 00:05:38.40\00:05:39.73 So have you had a lot of success 00:05:39.77\00:05:41.50 in getting local people to adopt? 00:05:41.54\00:05:45.11 I would say that is a challenge. 00:05:45.14\00:05:46.57 Culturally in Zimbabwe, adoption isn't necessarily 00:05:46.61\00:05:49.01 something embraced. 00:05:49.04\00:05:50.38 So we really work hard to develop those relationships. 00:05:50.41\00:05:53.35 Well, thank you so very much. What's your website address? 00:05:53.38\00:05:55.95 Yes, if you're interested in learning more 00:05:55.98\00:05:57.89 please visit kudavana.org, that's K-U-D-A-V-A-N-A.org. 00:05:57.92\00:06:04.19 Thank you so much. Thank you so much, Yvonne. 00:06:04.23\00:06:06.19 We appreciate what you're doing. 00:06:06.23\00:06:07.86 And please support this effort. This is so important. 00:06:07.90\00:06:11.60 The Lord would have us to help the orphans. 00:06:11.63\00:06:14.84 I am so excited to be here at ASI 2017 in Houston, Texas 00:06:16.97\00:06:21.98 with somebody who is no stranger 00:06:22.01\00:06:24.05 to the Dare to Dream family. 00:06:24.08\00:06:25.45 His name is Monet, 00:06:25.48\00:06:27.38 and he is with the Eden Lifestyle. 00:06:27.42\00:06:30.55 We've interviewed you several times, right? 00:06:30.59\00:06:33.82 This is the third time. Yeah. 00:06:33.86\00:06:35.52 And the first time, we were talking about 00:06:35.56\00:06:38.93 raising funds for a wellness center. 00:06:38.96\00:06:41.63 The second time, they were renovating it. 00:06:41.66\00:06:44.33 Tell us what's going on with you now. 00:06:44.37\00:06:46.63 So now third time within about a year's period 00:06:46.67\00:06:49.37 or year and a half or so even less than that, 00:06:49.40\00:06:51.27 the Lord actually... 00:06:51.31\00:06:53.11 We now actually opened up the lifestyle center, 00:06:53.14\00:06:55.38 the Wellness Center in upstate New York. 00:06:55.41\00:06:57.31 And now we are running the sessions, 00:06:57.35\00:06:59.41 we had about two sessions so far 00:06:59.45\00:07:01.45 and the Lord has just been tremendously blessing 00:07:01.48\00:07:03.79 the wellness center up in the Northeast. 00:07:03.82\00:07:05.65 One of the, actually very few sanitariums, 00:07:05.69\00:07:08.09 actually wellness centers in the Northeast 00:07:08.12\00:07:09.62 right now in New York. 00:07:09.66\00:07:10.99 So we're roughly about two and a half hours away 00:07:11.03\00:07:13.09 from New York City, two hours away 00:07:13.13\00:07:15.96 from Connecticut away from Boston, Massachusetts. 00:07:16.00\00:07:18.40 It's really in a really good situated location right now. 00:07:18.43\00:07:22.20 And I mean the Lord has just been opening up 00:07:22.24\00:07:24.01 so many doors for the wellness center. 00:07:24.04\00:07:25.97 We have people coming in with all different types 00:07:26.01\00:07:28.18 of lifestyle issues and being able to help them 00:07:28.21\00:07:30.41 with going through cooking classes, 00:07:30.45\00:07:32.88 health lectures, 00:07:32.91\00:07:34.25 and also even different sorts of a massage, 00:07:34.28\00:07:38.55 and hydrotherapy. 00:07:38.59\00:07:40.72 And this is really educating them 00:07:40.76\00:07:42.76 on how to live a better lifestyle. 00:07:42.79\00:07:45.63 Well, I tell you what, I definitely want 00:07:45.66\00:07:47.66 to make a visit up there. 00:07:47.70\00:07:49.23 I want to take a trip 00:07:49.26\00:07:50.60 and experience the Eden Lifestyle. 00:07:50.63\00:07:53.20 And I want you to know that your money 00:07:53.23\00:07:55.07 is been going to an excellent cause. 00:07:55.10\00:07:57.77 And everything that they were saying 00:07:57.81\00:07:59.51 that they were raising the money 00:07:59.54\00:08:00.88 for has come into fruition by God's grace. 00:08:00.91\00:08:04.28 Tell us some testimonials, some stories 00:08:04.31\00:08:06.75 if you will in the brief time that we that we have, 00:08:06.78\00:08:11.02 how lives have been transformed. 00:08:11.05\00:08:13.09 I mean, we have so many wonderful, 00:08:13.12\00:08:15.36 powerful testimonies that have been happening 00:08:15.39\00:08:17.19 here in Eden Lifestyle. 00:08:17.23\00:08:18.56 But this one particular one 00:08:18.59\00:08:19.93 that actually really stand out to me. 00:08:19.96\00:08:21.76 Actually we had a young man coming from Ohio. 00:08:21.80\00:08:23.83 He's about 21 years old. 00:08:23.87\00:08:25.93 He was actually previously a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:08:25.97\00:08:28.80 But in association with different friends 00:08:28.84\00:08:32.41 and so forth, in Ohio, he became a staunch atheist. 00:08:32.44\00:08:37.35 He became an atheist. Young man about 21 years old. 00:08:37.38\00:08:40.15 Now this young man, 00:08:40.18\00:08:41.75 he became a little bit overweight. 00:08:41.78\00:08:43.15 Okay. 00:08:43.18\00:08:44.52 So guess what, he wanted to come to the wellness center. 00:08:44.55\00:08:47.69 So then he came down to the wellness center. 00:08:47.72\00:08:49.92 In about 7 days, he lost about 16 pounds. 00:08:49.96\00:08:52.79 It was so convincing to him as we went over devotionals 00:08:52.83\00:08:56.43 every morning, 00:08:56.46\00:08:57.80 every evening, we have evening and morning devotions. 00:08:57.83\00:09:00.10 And this man got so touched, he saw that he lost weight 00:09:00.14\00:09:02.84 in such a short period of time, and how his life was drawn 00:09:02.87\00:09:05.31 even closer the Christ, 00:09:05.34\00:09:06.68 that when he left the lifestyle center, 00:09:06.71\00:09:08.11 he didn't only leave losing about twenty pounds in total, 00:09:08.14\00:09:11.41 but also he left believing in Jesus Christ, 00:09:11.45\00:09:14.98 from an atheist. Wow. 00:09:15.02\00:09:17.02 So he went from atheist to believer, 00:09:17.05\00:09:19.89 lost weight, got in shape, 00:09:19.92\00:09:22.66 got that confidence now, and believes in Christ. 00:09:22.69\00:09:26.96 Amen, amen. And now he's so excited. 00:09:27.00\00:09:28.56 He's telling all his atheist friends 00:09:28.60\00:09:30.73 about the wellness center to come and lose weight 00:09:30.77\00:09:33.00 and to meet Jesus Christ. 00:09:33.03\00:09:34.37 So that is just been really touching to me. 00:09:34.40\00:09:35.97 To just hear this man, this young man prayed 00:09:36.00\00:09:37.94 for the first time. 00:09:37.97\00:09:39.31 It was just heartwarming to see a young man praying 00:09:39.34\00:09:43.01 for the first time is just a beautiful thing. 00:09:43.04\00:09:44.48 Amen. And ever so quickly. 00:09:44.51\00:09:47.45 What advice do you have to that person 00:09:47.48\00:09:50.09 that is trying to make changes in their lifestyle, 00:09:50.12\00:09:52.19 trying to make changes in their diet, 00:09:52.22\00:09:53.99 but their diet may not be the best. 00:09:54.02\00:09:56.09 They may be used to eating certain things. 00:09:56.12\00:09:59.89 And how should they begin? 00:09:59.93\00:10:02.73 The first way to begin is very, very simple. 00:10:02.76\00:10:04.57 And that's one of the most foundational ways 00:10:04.60\00:10:06.03 that we tell everybody is to put your will 00:10:06.07\00:10:08.34 into the hands of Christ. 00:10:08.37\00:10:10.11 The Bible says, "I can do all things 00:10:10.14\00:10:11.51 through Christ who strengthens me." 00:10:11.54\00:10:12.87 Because to drink water 00:10:12.91\00:10:14.61 is a very difficult thing to do sometimes, 00:10:14.64\00:10:16.98 even to eat a healthier plant-based lifestyle 00:10:17.01\00:10:19.01 is difficult thing to do. 00:10:19.05\00:10:20.38 But we realize that only by depending 00:10:20.42\00:10:22.38 upon the full power of Christ to give you the power 00:10:22.42\00:10:24.82 to make that decision 00:10:24.85\00:10:26.19 is the first step that you should take. 00:10:26.22\00:10:27.56 And then through making that first step 00:10:27.59\00:10:29.12 then God gives you the power. 00:10:29.16\00:10:30.89 Now to make those decisions not only for one day 00:10:30.93\00:10:33.09 or for two days, right, but also consistently 00:10:33.13\00:10:36.30 for the rest of your life. 00:10:36.33\00:10:37.77 Wow. Amen. 00:10:37.80\00:10:39.13 So it's Christ that brings about that transformation 00:10:39.17\00:10:41.70 because we're powerless on our own. 00:10:41.74\00:10:43.51 That is correct. That is very, very correct. 00:10:43.54\00:10:45.14 And we have found out to be 00:10:45.17\00:10:46.51 even with lifestyle changes as well. 00:10:46.54\00:10:48.11 It's not just some self modification 00:10:48.14\00:10:49.81 or some sort of thing like that 00:10:49.84\00:10:51.41 but it's really dependent upon Christ. 00:10:51.45\00:10:53.11 And even right now at the wellness center, 00:10:53.15\00:10:55.05 not only that the sessions are going on, 00:10:55.08\00:10:56.82 but also we have started an organic farm. 00:10:56.85\00:10:59.95 Yes, we've been planting about one hundred blueberry trees 00:10:59.99\00:11:02.22 as well, blueberry plants. 00:11:02.26\00:11:03.66 And it really going to be expanding that, 00:11:03.69\00:11:05.03 so that when people come, not only that we have therapies 00:11:05.06\00:11:07.36 but also the farm as well. 00:11:07.40\00:11:09.33 That is excellent, well, thank you so much, 00:11:09.36\00:11:11.03 I hope we get to spend some more time with you. 00:11:11.07\00:11:13.27 We're going to go check out some other great ministries 00:11:13.30\00:11:15.77 and we hope that you've been blessed by Eden Lifestyle. 00:11:15.80\00:11:18.91 One of the things that I love about ASI is that 00:11:21.74\00:11:24.45 I get to meet a lot of the owners 00:11:24.48\00:11:26.88 and people who are movers and shakers for God 00:11:26.92\00:11:29.45 in the marketplace. 00:11:29.48\00:11:30.82 And one of those is Lawrence Rykard. 00:11:30.85\00:11:33.25 And Lawrence is the owner of Hasting His Harvest. 00:11:33.29\00:11:37.09 It's a business... 00:11:37.13\00:11:38.46 Well, I'll let him tell you about it. 00:11:38.49\00:11:39.83 Tell us about Hasting His Harvest. 00:11:39.86\00:11:41.20 Yes, we are health food ministry health food business. 00:11:41.23\00:11:45.10 We exist to share with people the love of God. 00:11:45.13\00:11:48.30 But at the same time, practically help them 00:11:48.34\00:11:50.57 to get well to see that love. 00:11:50.61\00:11:52.81 We do cooking classes, 00:11:52.84\00:11:54.58 we have some health food products, 00:11:54.61\00:11:56.78 we also do catering as well. 00:11:56.81\00:11:59.11 And we just exist to serve others 00:11:59.15\00:12:02.48 and serve the Lord. 00:12:02.52\00:12:03.85 That's wonderful. Where are you located? 00:12:03.89\00:12:05.95 We're currently in College Park, Maryland. 00:12:05.99\00:12:07.96 We also operate out of Washington, D.C. Yeah. 00:12:07.99\00:12:11.43 And how did you get started with this? 00:12:11.46\00:12:13.56 How did it happen? Well, it's a long story. 00:12:13.60\00:12:16.46 That's okay, we have a few minutes, 00:12:16.50\00:12:17.90 you can tell us in a few minutes. 00:12:17.93\00:12:19.63 Absolutely. 00:12:19.67\00:12:21.00 So I will go back to my conversion 00:12:21.04\00:12:24.31 when I gave my heart to the Lord, 00:12:24.34\00:12:26.24 I began to study the Bible, and pray, 00:12:26.27\00:12:29.31 and I just found in the Bible 00:12:29.34\00:12:31.75 that God cared about our health. 00:12:31.78\00:12:34.12 At the time, I was studying Dietetics nutrition in college. 00:12:34.15\00:12:37.92 So I was already interested in health 00:12:37.95\00:12:39.79 and there wasn't a day that wouldn't go by 00:12:39.82\00:12:41.42 where I wouldn't have to, you know, 00:12:41.46\00:12:43.26 exercise or work out, so that piqued my interest. 00:12:43.29\00:12:46.46 And then I read a book also, called Ministry of Healing 00:12:46.49\00:12:49.53 that was very encouraging to me and enlightening. 00:12:49.56\00:12:52.50 And I joined some of the missionaries 00:12:52.53\00:12:55.47 who had a similar mindset to share God 00:12:55.50\00:12:58.74 through the health message. 00:12:58.77\00:13:00.78 We've been through so many experiences together. 00:13:00.81\00:13:03.38 And we've had a restaurant, a few years ago. 00:13:03.41\00:13:06.41 And so from there Hasting His Harvest 00:13:06.45\00:13:08.52 began about two years ago just through prayer 00:13:08.55\00:13:12.25 through a desire to continue 00:13:12.29\00:13:13.99 what God had been teaching me 00:13:14.02\00:13:16.02 to hasten His harvest, to hasten His coming. 00:13:16.06\00:13:18.16 Yes. 00:13:18.19\00:13:19.53 And what have you been finding 00:13:19.56\00:13:20.90 as a result of people eating the food 00:13:20.93\00:13:23.63 and learning more about health, what's been happening? 00:13:23.67\00:13:26.40 Well, great things. I recently got a testimony. 00:13:26.43\00:13:30.31 We did one of our most recent cooking classes 00:13:30.34\00:13:33.27 that someone who came to the class decided 00:13:33.31\00:13:35.88 they were going to eat meat anymore 00:13:35.91\00:13:37.55 because they saw that they could have 00:13:37.58\00:13:39.35 something better that tastes good 00:13:39.38\00:13:41.98 that was also healthy as well. 00:13:42.02\00:13:45.02 So that was one of the most recent things, 00:13:45.05\00:13:47.66 through another convention we did 00:13:47.69\00:13:50.43 which was operated for about three days 00:13:50.46\00:13:53.19 including the Sabbath. 00:13:53.23\00:13:54.60 We were able to not sell anything 00:13:54.63\00:13:57.43 but we had our books available. 00:13:57.47\00:14:00.04 We had a sign up, that said, "We're sorry, 00:14:00.07\00:14:03.04 we're closed for the Sabbath." 00:14:03.07\00:14:04.41 But we do have some healthy books here 00:14:04.44\00:14:06.78 so that you guys can see this. 00:14:06.81\00:14:08.14 And there was another Sabbath-keeping group there 00:14:08.18\00:14:10.75 and they were just totally amazed, 00:14:10.78\00:14:12.38 there weren't Adventist group, 00:14:12.41\00:14:15.85 and they came in to us 00:14:15.88\00:14:17.22 and "Who are you guys? And who are you?" 00:14:17.25\00:14:18.95 And they got a whole case of ministry of healing 00:14:18.99\00:14:21.36 and we've been following up with them. 00:14:21.39\00:14:22.92 They want us to come there and do some healthy cooking 00:14:22.96\00:14:25.29 and health education. 00:14:25.33\00:14:26.66 Yeah. That is awesome. 00:14:26.70\00:14:28.60 So look at how God is using you to be a witness 00:14:28.63\00:14:32.87 and to also help people who are sick. 00:14:32.90\00:14:35.50 There's so many people who are sick 00:14:35.54\00:14:37.24 and so this is such a blessing. 00:14:37.27\00:14:39.47 What's your vision for this company? 00:14:39.51\00:14:43.24 Well, my vision is that this company will assist 00:14:43.28\00:14:48.08 in aiding cooperate with God 00:14:48.12\00:14:51.45 and others to hasten His coming. 00:14:51.49\00:14:55.06 And in a nutshell, we just want to do our part 00:14:55.09\00:14:57.39 as far as the health food work is concerned 00:14:57.43\00:14:59.19 and health education to see 00:14:59.23\00:15:01.33 Jesus coming sooner to be alive when he comes. 00:15:01.36\00:15:06.07 And maybe hastening these hours will be in heaven. 00:15:06.10\00:15:09.60 Okay, I love it. I love it. 00:15:09.64\00:15:11.47 Okay, So may I taste something? Sure. 00:15:11.51\00:15:13.54 Okay, all right, what do you have? 00:15:13.58\00:15:15.88 Tofu. Okay. 00:15:15.91\00:15:18.35 I love seeing young people involved in ministry. 00:15:18.38\00:15:24.12 I mean, to me it's so refreshing, 00:15:24.15\00:15:26.62 it's so exciting to see young people 00:15:26.65\00:15:29.49 taking the banner, 00:15:29.52\00:15:30.86 taking on these tasks of going forth 00:15:30.89\00:15:36.36 and just sharing the gospel 00:15:36.40\00:15:38.17 through the health message, it's just wonderful. 00:15:38.20\00:15:40.64 So, we're excited. So okay, what you got? 00:15:40.67\00:15:42.67 Tell me what you got. 00:15:42.70\00:15:44.04 So we have a variety of tofus here. 00:15:44.07\00:15:46.24 We have a skinless chicken flavor, 00:15:46.27\00:15:47.84 we have a steak flavor, sweet and sour, 00:15:47.88\00:15:51.01 Curry, fish, we even have a chicken salad. 00:15:51.05\00:15:55.25 And others that are not here, 00:15:55.28\00:15:56.62 but I'm going to let you try the barbecue. 00:15:56.65\00:15:59.45 If Jason were here, he would be drooling right now. 00:15:59.49\00:16:02.42 Mmm. Oh, yes. 00:16:13.70\00:16:17.17 You're going to want to get that. 00:16:17.21\00:16:18.54 What's your website? 00:16:18.57\00:16:19.91 Website is www.hastingHisharvest.com 00:16:19.94\00:16:25.95 And do you ship? 00:16:25.98\00:16:27.42 We do ship some of our products, absolutely. 00:16:27.45\00:16:30.62 You're going to want to get this. 00:16:30.65\00:16:31.99 What a blessing. Yummy. 00:16:32.02\00:16:34.72 God bless you. Make sure you check it out. 00:16:34.76\00:16:38.59 I'm so excited once again to be at ASI, 00:16:38.63\00:16:42.93 in Houston 2017 with somebody else 00:16:42.96\00:16:45.77 who is no stranger to the Dare to Dream network. 00:16:45.80\00:16:48.40 You might have seen him on Chew's Challenge. 00:16:48.44\00:16:50.41 This is Chef G W Chew. 00:16:50.44\00:16:53.17 And tell us what's going on with your ministry now. 00:16:53.21\00:16:56.21 Yeah, we actually have a vegan restaurant 00:16:56.24\00:16:58.65 in Oakland, California. 00:16:58.68\00:17:00.22 It's pretty amazing right now. We're serving a great food. 00:17:00.25\00:17:03.15 We have a product called feta cheese steak. 00:17:03.18\00:17:05.65 So it looks like steak, tastes like steak, 00:17:05.69\00:17:07.62 but guess what. 00:17:07.66\00:17:08.99 It's not steak. 00:17:09.02\00:17:10.36 And we use food as a bridge to our community. 00:17:10.39\00:17:12.59 And we find that feeding healthy food, 00:17:12.63\00:17:14.90 having good customer service, loving old people, 00:17:14.93\00:17:17.50 and giving them something to chew on 00:17:17.53\00:17:19.10 is the perfect recipe for success 00:17:19.13\00:17:21.44 and ministering to souls. 00:17:21.47\00:17:23.14 So we found that we're seeing great things happening 00:17:23.17\00:17:24.97 in Oakland, California right now, yeah. 00:17:25.01\00:17:27.04 And so what impact is it having on the community 00:17:27.08\00:17:30.61 in terms of employment? 00:17:30.65\00:17:32.38 And tell is something about that. 00:17:32.41\00:17:34.45 Yes, we were talking about that. 00:17:34.48\00:17:36.22 Yeah, so, you know, 00:17:36.25\00:17:37.59 first of all, man, I mean, we're... 00:17:37.62\00:17:38.95 We're not only doing food, we're doing lot of education. 00:17:38.99\00:17:41.56 So we're actually mentoring kids in our community. 00:17:41.59\00:17:44.13 And we have urban youth who actually are coming 00:17:44.16\00:17:46.49 for cooking classes, hands-on cooking classes, 00:17:46.53\00:17:49.20 teaching how to cook, giving them a dream. 00:17:49.23\00:17:50.97 You know, I had a cooking class about two weeks ago. 00:17:51.00\00:17:53.44 I had my grand opening scissors. 00:17:53.47\00:17:55.00 And I was telling the young people that 00:17:55.04\00:17:56.64 you know dreams are possible, man, you know, sometimes, 00:17:56.67\00:17:58.67 you know, we have setbacks. 00:17:58.71\00:18:00.08 So one of the things we're doing is encouraging 00:18:00.11\00:18:01.64 our community especially people of color 00:18:01.68\00:18:03.71 who don't really see a lot of African-Americans 00:18:03.75\00:18:05.98 and other, you know, minorities 00:18:06.01\00:18:07.45 doing businesses in our communities. 00:18:07.48\00:18:09.75 And I'm also we providing jobs. 00:18:09.78\00:18:11.49 Which I believe is one of the most important things 00:18:11.52\00:18:13.46 to bring help to our communities. 00:18:13.49\00:18:15.26 And so we're providing jobs, mentorship, 00:18:15.29\00:18:18.33 you know, it has been a life, you know, to the people there. 00:18:18.36\00:18:20.90 So basically, what your town is in a sense 00:18:20.93\00:18:24.63 you're implementing Christ method. 00:18:24.67\00:18:26.33 Because you're not just telling people, "Hey, follow us." 00:18:26.37\00:18:30.07 But you're meeting their needs 00:18:30.11\00:18:32.47 just like Christ met the people's needs. 00:18:32.51\00:18:34.84 And then said, "Follow me." Exactly. Exactly. 00:18:34.88\00:18:37.15 You know, one of the things we are doing, we actually... 00:18:37.18\00:18:39.38 We're launching a product and a whole foods market. 00:18:39.41\00:18:42.25 We just got approved into 20 stores, 00:18:42.28\00:18:44.15 which is amazing. 00:18:44.19\00:18:45.72 We have a product called Better Chew. 00:18:45.75\00:18:48.62 You can see on my shirt here, Better Chew. 00:18:48.66\00:18:50.59 Better Chew fried chicken 00:18:50.63\00:18:52.06 and that'll be at three flavors. 00:18:52.09\00:18:53.50 And a great thing about that because that's again 00:18:53.53\00:18:55.60 creating sustainability for our ministry. 00:18:55.63\00:18:57.70 And one of the things we found when it comes to ministry 00:18:57.73\00:18:59.33 is how do we keep it sustained, 00:18:59.37\00:19:01.07 and so we actually have our great food products 00:19:01.10\00:19:03.20 going into stores, providing employment, 00:19:03.24\00:19:05.41 giving sustenance to our ministry model, 00:19:05.44\00:19:07.44 and it's just a great, great accomplishment, 00:19:07.48\00:19:09.21 you know, that we're seeing God 00:19:09.24\00:19:10.58 who God did it for us, you know, it's so pretty cool. 00:19:10.61\00:19:12.31 And who do you partner with? 00:19:12.35\00:19:13.75 Yeah we're partnering now. 00:19:13.78\00:19:15.12 I'm currently partnering with Northern California Conference. 00:19:15.15\00:19:17.25 The restaurant is actually owned by the conference. 00:19:17.29\00:19:19.69 We actually created the restaurant 00:19:19.72\00:19:21.32 for the conference. 00:19:21.36\00:19:22.69 And then they hired me to run it for them, 00:19:22.72\00:19:24.39 pretty neat combination. 00:19:24.43\00:19:25.79 So it's amazing ministry, 00:19:25.83\00:19:27.16 we kind of seeing a partnership with, 00:19:27.20\00:19:28.53 you know, with self-supporting ministries 00:19:28.56\00:19:29.93 and with local conferences and seeing how that two synergy 00:19:29.96\00:19:33.17 can kind of work together 00:19:33.20\00:19:34.54 to finish God's work in these last days. 00:19:34.57\00:19:36.17 And I think that's so important. 00:19:36.20\00:19:37.54 Yes, absolutely. 00:19:37.57\00:19:38.97 And the fact that you're empowering 00:19:39.01\00:19:40.54 the community with jobs, 00:19:40.58\00:19:42.34 with getting people rehabilitated... 00:19:42.38\00:19:45.11 And a touch on that 00:19:45.15\00:19:46.48 because the rehabilitation was like what? 00:19:46.51\00:19:48.82 Anger management and what else? 00:19:48.85\00:19:50.19 Yes. So with our manufacturing... 00:19:50.22\00:19:51.55 Again, manufacturing's was the backbone 00:19:51.59\00:19:54.49 especially many minority communities, 00:19:54.52\00:19:56.32 Blue collar jobs. 00:19:56.36\00:19:57.99 We're looking again right now with going into whole foods 00:19:58.03\00:20:00.20 and other venues that providing manufacturing jobs. 00:20:00.23\00:20:03.26 What that does is that it gives us a foundation 00:20:03.30\00:20:05.47 to be able to provide employment 00:20:05.50\00:20:07.64 but while providing employment, 00:20:07.67\00:20:09.20 we're looking at creating rehabilitation services 00:20:09.24\00:20:11.24 while work as life improvement services. 00:20:11.27\00:20:13.34 These being anger management, parenting skills. 00:20:13.38\00:20:16.41 You know, just getting a GED. 00:20:16.44\00:20:18.01 You know, currently we're hiring young men 00:20:18.05\00:20:19.85 off the streets and we have a young man 00:20:19.88\00:20:21.68 who's been working with us about two weeks currently. 00:20:21.72\00:20:23.69 He was actually... He's a window cleaner. 00:20:23.72\00:20:25.95 He came a few times. We had a job opportunity form. 00:20:25.99\00:20:28.92 Now he's working for us for fulltime 00:20:28.96\00:20:30.63 making $20 an hour in Oakland which is amazing. 00:20:30.66\00:20:33.96 So we're pretty excited about that. 00:20:34.00\00:20:35.80 I mean, at the same time, and these daily challenges 00:20:35.83\00:20:37.73 that we're having at times. 00:20:37.77\00:20:39.10 But every day becomes a discipleship 00:20:39.13\00:20:40.54 opportunity with them. 00:20:40.57\00:20:42.04 We're praying with them in the morning time. 00:20:42.07\00:20:43.87 And so I just believe that we can create jobs, 00:20:43.91\00:20:46.44 give a person opportunity to give them dignity, support, 00:20:46.47\00:20:49.31 it is that so much for their soul foundation 00:20:49.34\00:20:51.71 and their wellbeing. Absolutely. 00:20:51.75\00:20:53.42 And they're able to take care of their family. 00:20:53.45\00:20:55.18 Exactly, exactly. 00:20:55.22\00:20:56.55 And not only are they able to take care of their families, 00:20:56.58\00:20:59.05 but you're equipping them with the trade. 00:20:59.09\00:21:01.59 You know, if they decide to go anywhere else, 00:21:01.62\00:21:03.86 they have that foundation. Exactly. 00:21:03.89\00:21:05.89 And I'm sure they'll be learning about Christ as well. 00:21:05.93\00:21:08.00 That's the key. That's the key, man. 00:21:08.03\00:21:09.36 Again, we need practical solutions 00:21:09.40\00:21:11.07 for inner cities especially. 00:21:11.10\00:21:12.43 You know, our inner cities 00:21:12.47\00:21:13.80 are very difficult places to work. 00:21:13.84\00:21:15.17 There's so much competition from the world. 00:21:15.20\00:21:17.11 But I believe as a Christian, business people as Christian, 00:21:17.14\00:21:20.18 soul winners for Christ. 00:21:20.21\00:21:21.54 We can do so much and do so much for his kingdom. 00:21:21.58\00:21:23.81 Yes, absolutely. 00:21:23.85\00:21:25.31 Now you've heard it here. 00:21:25.35\00:21:26.68 There's so much going on at ASI. 00:21:26.72\00:21:28.68 If you haven't been to one, 00:21:28.72\00:21:30.05 you definitely need to check it out. 00:21:30.09\00:21:31.95 And we're so happy about 00:21:31.99\00:21:33.32 what you're doing in your community. 00:21:33.36\00:21:35.12 Make sure that you get out into your community 00:21:35.16\00:21:36.99 and empower others. 00:21:37.03\00:21:38.36 Let's go check out 00:21:38.39\00:21:39.73 some other great ministries at ASI. 00:21:39.76\00:21:44.53 Are you looking for a new career? 00:21:44.57\00:21:46.77 Well, I have to tell you that one point in my life, 00:21:46.80\00:21:48.84 I was a massage therapist and I'm standing here today 00:21:48.87\00:21:52.64 with Alvin Trace who is the director 00:21:52.67\00:21:55.14 of the Black Hills School of Massage, right? 00:21:55.18\00:21:58.01 Did I get it right? That's correct. You got it. 00:21:58.05\00:22:00.28 And he's going to tell us about the school of massage. 00:22:00.32\00:22:03.49 It is a Christian school of massage, is it not? 00:22:03.52\00:22:05.75 Yes, it is. Tell us about it. 00:22:05.79\00:22:07.42 Well, in 19... 00:22:07.46\00:22:08.92 Sorry, in 2007, the massage school was started 00:22:08.96\00:22:11.79 by Carrie Beets, one of our former instructors. 00:22:11.83\00:22:15.36 And she really worked hard to get that thing in place. 00:22:15.40\00:22:20.00 We are a licensed program 00:22:20.04\00:22:22.37 that means students can come and attend our program 00:22:22.40\00:22:25.97 and be eligible to get state license 00:22:26.01\00:22:27.84 in whatever state they live in. 00:22:27.88\00:22:29.88 It's pretty exciting. 00:22:29.91\00:22:31.25 That's incredible, incredible. 00:22:31.28\00:22:33.05 Because a lot of people don't know that, 00:22:33.08\00:22:34.88 you know, you go to school for massage, 00:22:34.92\00:22:36.38 you get a license, and then you can practice. 00:22:36.42\00:22:38.85 Exactly. It's $600 program, 6 months. 00:22:38.89\00:22:42.92 So students come and they take all the courses 00:22:42.96\00:22:45.69 that we normally teach. 00:22:45.73\00:22:47.06 The neat thing is we don't teach 00:22:47.10\00:22:48.43 the Eastern modalities, the new age approach, 00:22:48.46\00:22:51.13 it's more evidence based, medically based. 00:22:51.17\00:22:54.00 And like I'm saying, in six months, 00:22:54.04\00:22:56.74 they can finish up, get their license, 00:22:56.77\00:22:59.11 and then apply for a license here in the national exam. 00:22:59.14\00:23:02.14 Wow. 00:23:02.18\00:23:03.51 What kinds of courses are involved? 00:23:03.55\00:23:05.68 We teach physiology, anatomy, pathology, kinesiology, 00:23:05.71\00:23:09.88 then that the massage courses themselves, 00:23:09.92\00:23:12.19 Swedish massage 00:23:12.22\00:23:13.56 and we do different modalities to introduce them 00:23:13.59\00:23:15.42 to more opportunities they have. 00:23:15.46\00:23:17.96 You know, it's interesting that you would say 00:23:17.99\00:23:19.56 that we don't have 00:23:19.59\00:23:20.93 that you don't have the Eastern modalities 00:23:20.96\00:23:24.53 because, you know, I came out of that whole thing. 00:23:24.57\00:23:27.17 And it's very interesting 00:23:27.20\00:23:28.54 how Eastern medicine has also penetrated 00:23:28.57\00:23:32.67 that can you give us a little bit about 00:23:32.71\00:23:34.81 what you don't teach. 00:23:34.84\00:23:36.31 What we don't teach is energy practices, 00:23:36.34\00:23:39.01 we don't teach reflexology, 00:23:39.05\00:23:41.02 we don't teach a number of different things 00:23:41.05\00:23:44.25 that we feel uncomfortable with, 00:23:44.29\00:23:46.02 that really aren't evidence based. 00:23:46.05\00:23:48.86 So lot of us kind of get sucked into a lot of practices 00:23:48.89\00:23:53.96 that really aren't I believe divinely inspired. 00:23:54.00\00:23:57.17 So true. 00:23:57.20\00:23:58.53 We can get sucked into practices 00:23:58.57\00:23:59.90 that aren't divine. 00:23:59.93\00:24:01.27 Exactly. Yeah, absolutely. 00:24:01.30\00:24:03.07 So what are some of the... 00:24:03.10\00:24:07.14 You said you already do Swedish massage 00:24:07.18\00:24:10.21 and other kinds of massage. 00:24:10.25\00:24:12.85 Sure, we give them introductions 00:24:12.88\00:24:14.55 to trigger point therapy, 00:24:14.58\00:24:17.35 myofascial release, sports massage, 00:24:17.39\00:24:21.72 and, you know, what are the other modalities 00:24:21.76\00:24:23.56 that we think are appropriate for that particular class. 00:24:23.59\00:24:26.03 Oh, that's great. 00:24:26.06\00:24:27.40 Now how do you integrate Christian principles 00:24:27.43\00:24:30.87 in with the whole thing? 00:24:30.90\00:24:33.27 The whole program really is focused on medical ministry. 00:24:33.30\00:24:38.37 How so? 00:24:38.41\00:24:39.74 Well, you know, we teach the students 00:24:39.77\00:24:42.01 how to do hydrotherapy, massage. 00:24:42.04\00:24:45.11 And hydrotherapy is actually part of the scope 00:24:45.15\00:24:47.15 of practice of massage. 00:24:47.18\00:24:48.98 But most schools don't delve into that very much. 00:24:49.02\00:24:52.22 And a lot of the students 00:24:52.25\00:24:53.92 that come there really want to go 00:24:53.96\00:24:55.92 into medical ministry. 00:24:55.96\00:24:57.29 We are a lifestyle center. 00:24:57.33\00:24:59.89 Some of them tell us that they feel like 00:24:59.93\00:25:02.13 they're getting an internship in lifestyle medicine 00:25:02.16\00:25:03.90 while they are there 00:25:03.93\00:25:05.27 because they're mingling with the guests, 00:25:05.30\00:25:06.63 work with the guests. 00:25:06.67\00:25:08.00 Oh, that's incredible. 00:25:08.04\00:25:09.37 Tell us about, do you have any graduates 00:25:09.40\00:25:11.11 that have had great success stories? 00:25:11.14\00:25:13.01 Yeah, we have one graduate that I think is pretty amazing 00:25:13.04\00:25:16.91 in our last class. 00:25:16.95\00:25:18.95 An Army colonel with 30 years of experience 00:25:18.98\00:25:21.35 felt like he wanted to get back and find a way 00:25:21.38\00:25:23.99 to spiritually reach out to people. 00:25:24.02\00:25:26.22 And he was one of our oldest students 00:25:26.25\00:25:30.43 in the class that year. 00:25:30.46\00:25:32.33 And 30 years in the military 00:25:32.36\00:25:33.70 and then he came to be a massage therapist 00:25:33.73\00:25:35.20 and God impressed him 00:25:35.23\00:25:36.56 when he was in England to get on the on line 00:25:36.60\00:25:38.43 and he's an amazing guy. 00:25:38.47\00:25:40.14 Wow. 00:25:40.17\00:25:41.50 And he found you and just went into... 00:25:41.54\00:25:44.31 And did the program.
