I was raised very, very well. 00:03:13.86\00:03:17.53 Went to a good Christian college, 00:03:17.56\00:03:20.33 I was taught all the right things. 00:03:20.36\00:03:22.46 But I didn't have the spiritual connection here, 00:03:22.50\00:03:26.37 but I went to church. 00:03:26.40\00:03:27.74 Hmm. 00:03:27.77\00:03:29.10 I was a good kid so I go to church. 00:03:29.14\00:03:30.71 That's a good contrast, you know... 00:03:30.74\00:03:32.24 Yes. 00:03:32.27\00:03:33.61 Because you can go to church and you could just, you know, 00:03:33.64\00:03:36.14 you go in devil and you come out a devil, right? 00:03:36.18\00:03:38.15 Absolutely. 00:03:38.18\00:03:39.51 Oh, in fact, you know, people give going to church 00:03:39.55\00:03:43.42 a bit more credit than it should 00:03:43.45\00:03:45.15 and as well kind of a corny saying 00:03:45.19\00:03:47.02 I used sometimes that, 00:03:47.06\00:03:48.62 "Sitting in a church doesn't make you 00:03:48.66\00:03:50.03 any more of a Christian 00:03:50.06\00:03:51.46 than sitting in the garage 00:03:51.49\00:03:52.83 makes you a Lamborghini." 00:03:52.86\00:03:54.20 Hmm. 00:03:54.23\00:03:55.56 Because this is not the place, 00:03:55.60\00:03:56.93 it's what you doing in the place. 00:03:56.97\00:03:58.83 Now I still go to the church. 00:03:58.87\00:04:00.20 There's nothing's wrong with that. 00:04:00.24\00:04:01.57 Why? Nobody is saying don't go to church. 00:04:01.60\00:04:02.97 No, no, I still go to church, but there's a realness there. 00:04:03.00\00:04:05.47 Now when I go, I hang out with other people 00:04:05.51\00:04:07.61 who are kind of real about the spirituality. 00:04:07.64\00:04:09.91 We don't always agree on everything. 00:04:09.94\00:04:11.48 But we do believe in Jesus Christ. 00:04:11.51\00:04:13.72 Believe in God almighty. 00:04:13.75\00:04:15.22 And that brings us together 00:04:15.25\00:04:16.85 and from now on we're brothers and sisters 00:04:16.89\00:04:18.65 and it is great. 00:04:18.69\00:04:20.32 But prior to that happening, 00:04:20.36\00:04:23.19 I'm just kind of out here on my own. 00:04:23.22\00:04:24.89 How did you go from being a PK 00:04:24.93\00:04:27.93 and PKs are in church every Sabbath? 00:04:27.96\00:04:30.63 You know, you went from being a PK 00:04:30.67\00:04:33.17 to going out to coming back 00:04:33.20\00:04:36.60 and saying, you know, now it's a different... 00:04:36.64\00:04:38.41 Now it's God. Yeah. 00:04:38.44\00:04:39.77 I think what happens often when you're in church so much, 00:04:39.81\00:04:43.35 you get desensitized to what's really going on there. 00:04:43.38\00:04:47.42 You learn some of the organizational woes. 00:04:47.45\00:04:49.98 And trust me, whether you're at church or at business, 00:04:50.02\00:04:52.45 any operation that has more than two people 00:04:52.49\00:04:55.09 is a hopeless bureaucracy, 00:04:55.12\00:04:56.73 so if you hang out wherever you gonna get, 00:04:56.76\00:04:59.23 you know, some of the negatives. 00:04:59.26\00:05:01.16 Actually, I went to work 00:05:01.20\00:05:03.16 and I was blessed to have educated parents 00:05:03.20\00:05:05.60 and so I figured 00:05:05.63\00:05:07.50 I could pretty much figure out anything. 00:05:07.54\00:05:09.50 And I went to work 00:05:09.54\00:05:10.87 and all these people were there and I said, 00:05:10.91\00:05:12.24 "I'm smarter than this one, that one. 00:05:12.27\00:05:13.81 Oh, I'm gonna be the president of this thing in a week. 00:05:13.84\00:05:16.75 I don't know, they need to get my office ready." 00:05:16.78\00:05:18.31 I'm just hired in now. 00:05:18.35\00:05:19.68 Right, right. 00:05:19.71\00:05:21.05 Kid is 20, he's trying to figure things out. 00:05:21.08\00:05:22.42 And there's a set of unwritten rules 00:05:22.45\00:05:26.49 that they don't train you about. 00:05:26.52\00:05:28.59 Nobody tells you about these things in school. 00:05:28.62\00:05:30.23 Such as? 00:05:30.26\00:05:32.83 Don't drive the car better than your bosses, 00:05:32.86\00:05:36.40 if your boss has any ego issues. 00:05:36.43\00:05:38.30 Now let me draw the scenario. 00:05:38.33\00:05:39.93 You are young kid, you're coming in, 00:05:39.97\00:05:42.04 you got extra cash, first of all, 00:05:42.07\00:05:43.44 you don't have any kids, you're not married, 00:05:43.47\00:05:45.94 you just, it's just you, your apartment, 00:05:45.97\00:05:47.94 you have extra spendable cash to blow. 00:05:47.98\00:05:50.98 So you get this sports car, boss comes in, 00:05:51.01\00:05:54.12 he's wearing his twisted serious looker suit. 00:05:54.15\00:05:56.65 He's already got five kids, 00:05:56.69\00:05:58.05 his check is stretched to the max, 00:05:58.09\00:05:59.65 he got his Station Amager with rust rolling on it. 00:05:59.69\00:06:02.36 And you pull up in your sports car. 00:06:02.39\00:06:04.16 Oh, that's not gonna work. 00:06:04.19\00:06:06.16 That day I had a bad day. 00:06:06.19\00:06:07.90 Now nobody writes that down. Right. 00:06:07.93\00:06:10.10 But there are smart people watching this. 00:06:10.13\00:06:11.47 They go, "Well, we know that." Right. 00:06:11.50\00:06:13.23 So there are subtle things there 00:06:13.27\00:06:15.67 than I do executive coaching now, I'm mentoring. 00:06:15.70\00:06:17.97 There are subtle things there that you don't know going in. 00:06:18.01\00:06:21.51 And you think because you're smart 00:06:21.54\00:06:22.98 and you went to school, that you have a... 00:06:23.01\00:06:24.68 you have no clue what's about to happen. 00:06:24.71\00:06:29.35 So when you got to your first job, 00:06:29.38\00:06:34.06 what was your spiritual condition then? 00:06:34.09\00:06:36.22 Oh, I was so sad. 00:06:36.26\00:06:37.99 I went and got a cute little sports car, I'm single, 00:06:38.03\00:06:41.56 they're gorgeous women everywhere 00:06:41.60\00:06:43.40 I said, "God has been good." 00:06:43.43\00:06:44.77 I knew I was blessed, I had a job, a car 00:06:44.80\00:06:47.34 and oh, we're about to have a good time 00:06:47.37\00:06:49.34 and what happens is my belief is that 00:06:49.37\00:06:51.71 Satan lets you be okay for a little bit, 00:06:51.74\00:06:56.38 where you think this is how life is going to be. 00:06:56.41\00:07:00.95 This is great. Yeah. 00:07:00.98\00:07:02.52 I had no spiritual connection. 00:07:02.55\00:07:03.89 I did not wake up in the morning 00:07:03.92\00:07:05.25 being connected, 00:07:05.29\00:07:06.62 but I could still go to church and play the part. 00:07:06.65\00:07:09.76 Oh, so you were still going to church? 00:07:09.79\00:07:11.93 I was still going to church. 00:07:11.96\00:07:13.56 But you kind of lost your connection. 00:07:13.60\00:07:14.96 Oh, absolutely. 00:07:15.00\00:07:16.50 There's a couple of pieces that I've seen 00:07:16.53\00:07:19.57 people talk about being lost in the church. 00:07:19.60\00:07:22.40 Oh, yes. 00:07:22.44\00:07:23.91 Going to church, it's not the building, 00:07:23.94\00:07:26.17 it's what's my condition 00:07:26.21\00:07:27.54 when I'm coming into the building, 00:07:27.58\00:07:28.91 so I went to church and I can do the church talk, 00:07:28.94\00:07:30.51 how are you, my sister? 00:07:30.55\00:07:31.88 Isn't God good? 00:07:31.91\00:07:33.25 Happy Sabbath. 00:07:33.28\00:07:34.62 I'm thinking about the next party I'm going to go... 00:07:34.65\00:07:35.98 In fact, as soon as I leave here, 00:07:36.02\00:07:37.35 I'm about to go get in some foolishness, 00:07:37.39\00:07:38.72 so I wasn't really... 00:07:38.75\00:07:40.36 no, I wasn't convicted at all to get closer to God, 00:07:40.39\00:07:44.39 I just played the game. 00:07:44.43\00:07:45.76 What happened? 00:07:45.79\00:07:47.13 I went to work and one of the first things 00:07:47.16\00:07:50.33 that I ran into was a sense of things aren't going to be fair. 00:07:50.37\00:07:56.54 So I walked in now trust me, I did some dumb things, 00:07:56.57\00:08:00.04 believe it or not, I had an afro, 00:08:00.08\00:08:03.41 I had an afro the size of this room. 00:08:03.45\00:08:06.68 And I've never been a tiny, tiny person, 00:08:06.72\00:08:09.52 so the biggest afro, big guy coming in football. 00:08:09.55\00:08:15.62 I went into a very conservative room, 00:08:15.66\00:08:18.89 very conservative company, had a jumpsuit 00:08:18.93\00:08:21.73 and I had my little medallion 00:08:21.76\00:08:23.16 with the little black fist right there, 00:08:23.20\00:08:25.43 and I'm pretty sure 00:08:25.47\00:08:26.80 I scared the mess out of everybody in that room. 00:08:26.84\00:08:30.04 And if they had known me they would say, 00:08:30.07\00:08:32.24 oh, this guy is the cream puff. 00:08:32.27\00:08:33.64 But I mean what they saw 00:08:33.68\00:08:35.38 was a six foot plus big guy with a giant afro. 00:08:35.41\00:08:40.55 What do you do? 00:08:40.58\00:08:41.92 And when people respond out of fear, 00:08:41.95\00:08:43.99 they do some pretty, pretty wild things. 00:08:44.02\00:08:46.22 I wasn't mean, I was always looking for fun and the party, 00:08:46.25\00:08:49.06 but I got lost and as I decided I am going to move up, 00:08:49.09\00:08:53.93 and I saw what it took to move up, 00:08:53.96\00:08:56.06 I started imitating those people and I said, 00:08:56.10\00:08:58.43 "I'm better than this one, I'm smarter." 00:08:58.47\00:09:00.27 And what I didn't but I wasn't ready for 00:09:00.30\00:09:03.37 is there is an invisible pecking order 00:09:03.41\00:09:05.71 in most organizations. 00:09:05.74\00:09:07.18 Okay, unpack that a little bit? Okay. 00:09:07.21\00:09:09.94 There are seven people in this room you walk in, 00:09:09.98\00:09:12.85 if we're competing for something 00:09:12.88\00:09:14.78 regardless as to your skill and ability, 00:09:14.82\00:09:17.52 these people have time in line ahead of you. 00:09:17.55\00:09:21.42 So you may look at them and say, 00:09:21.46\00:09:24.69 "I'm better than them." 00:09:24.73\00:09:26.06 And you may be, but that's irrelevant 00:09:26.09\00:09:28.20 because they're going to be rewarded 00:09:28.23\00:09:29.96 based on that pecking order, 00:09:30.00\00:09:31.40 and that's not just pure ability, 00:09:31.43\00:09:33.30 it's also their time in the relationship 00:09:33.34\00:09:35.24 with the people that are making the decisions. 00:09:35.27\00:09:37.61 And none of that's in school, nobody ever tells you that. 00:09:37.64\00:09:40.78 You see this is another one of those unwritten rules. 00:09:40.81\00:09:43.24 Absolutely. Absolutely. 00:09:43.28\00:09:45.01 And I was I was pretty much done. 00:09:45.05\00:09:47.62 Then I ran into some just basic blatant unfair things 00:09:47.65\00:09:52.89 that were said and done to me based on how I looked. 00:09:52.92\00:09:55.12 Well, I'm not going to be able to change the color of my skin, 00:09:55.16\00:09:57.66 I can cut my afro down and scare you a little less, 00:09:57.69\00:10:00.00 but I am who I am. 00:10:00.03\00:10:02.13 And instead of responding by going to the father, 00:10:02.16\00:10:06.30 I went sideways, I said, 00:10:06.33\00:10:07.87 "Man, I gotta find some relief out of this thing." 00:10:07.90\00:10:10.34 So I got into a little substances 00:10:10.37\00:10:12.04 that made you feel better on your way home. 00:10:12.07\00:10:13.58 Okay. 00:10:13.61\00:10:14.94 And I said, "Oh, heck with those people." 00:10:14.98\00:10:16.78 And that's a slow gradual slide 00:10:16.81\00:10:21.12 toward away from anything 00:10:21.15\00:10:24.19 that is closely resembling going to God. 00:10:24.22\00:10:27.59 I went to my stash to feel better 00:10:27.62\00:10:31.03 rather than, "God, please make my heart feel better. 00:10:31.06\00:10:33.06 Please give me peace while I'm being persecuted, please..." 00:10:33.09\00:10:36.06 I didn't do any of that, I went my own way. 00:10:36.10\00:10:38.23 And that's why I went down for a while. 00:10:38.27\00:10:40.37 Satan doesn't destroy you instantly. 00:10:40.40\00:10:43.17 He takes his time. 00:10:43.20\00:10:45.54 That's so true, he's a torturer, you know, 00:10:45.57\00:10:48.61 he wants to do it overtime and it's kind of like 00:10:48.64\00:10:51.45 the frog this in the boiling water, right? 00:10:51.48\00:10:53.88 That frog story, you know, 00:10:53.92\00:10:55.82 he just turn this ire gradually, 00:10:55.85\00:10:58.95 the fire up gradually, 00:10:58.99\00:11:00.69 and the frog don't even realize it 00:11:00.72\00:11:03.09 before you know he's boiled and that's what Satan does. 00:11:03.12\00:11:05.46 Satan does. 00:11:05.49\00:11:06.83 He takes his time and destroys, that's his job, 00:11:06.86\00:11:10.13 his job is to destroy. 00:11:10.17\00:11:12.23 Absolutely, but he can only get you 00:11:12.27\00:11:14.04 if you've let go of God's hand. 00:11:14.07\00:11:15.40 That's right. He cannot take you out. 00:11:15.44\00:11:17.47 That's right. So I hit rock bottom and... 00:11:17.51\00:11:21.91 Did the substances take hold of you? 00:11:21.94\00:11:24.05 Oh, I was absolutely, absolutely, 00:11:24.08\00:11:25.61 it's demonic and with them there's you lose hope, 00:11:25.65\00:11:30.82 you lose any belief that it can get better 00:11:30.85\00:11:33.42 and you also lose your belief 00:11:33.46\00:11:35.59 in the fact that God can help you. 00:11:35.62\00:11:39.36 And that's all Satan wants is your faith... 00:11:39.39\00:11:40.90 That's right. That God can actually help you. 00:11:40.93\00:11:43.50 So a turning point was, I remember I was in a situation 00:11:43.53\00:11:47.14 where I was getting help 00:11:47.17\00:11:48.50 and I was at the bottom of life. 00:11:48.54\00:11:49.87 I have so destroyed my life and I called my pop, 00:11:49.90\00:11:52.74 who I loved dearly. 00:11:52.77\00:11:54.88 I said, Dad, I told him exactly where I was 00:11:54.91\00:11:57.51 and it's interesting, I didn't understand 00:11:57.55\00:11:59.35 what condemnation meant 00:11:59.38\00:12:00.85 and there is no condemnation in those 00:12:00.88\00:12:02.88 that are trusting in God to save, 00:12:02.92\00:12:04.32 and I didn't know what that meant, 00:12:04.35\00:12:05.69 then I was out there. 00:12:05.72\00:12:07.22 So I called Pop, I said, "Dad, here's where I'm at." 00:12:07.26\00:12:09.52 I told him the absolute everything that was going on. 00:12:09.56\00:12:12.89 You know, the first thing he said back to me 00:12:12.93\00:12:14.63 blew me away he said, "I love you." 00:12:14.66\00:12:18.60 Here's the pastor he could've said, 00:12:18.63\00:12:19.97 "We trained you better than that, young man." 00:12:20.00\00:12:22.00 He said, "I love you," and he said, "God loves you." 00:12:22.04\00:12:27.51 And the third thing I didn't get two years later 00:12:27.54\00:12:29.78 he said, "Oh, you're no worse than anybody else." 00:12:29.81\00:12:33.65 I said, "I'm striving out, I'm no worse than anybody else 00:12:33.68\00:12:35.75 based on what I'm looking at." 00:12:35.78\00:12:37.32 But I didn't understand that 00:12:37.35\00:12:38.69 everybody is faced with the condition of sin. 00:12:38.72\00:12:40.82 That's right. 00:12:40.86\00:12:42.19 And some of our addictions are out front. 00:12:42.22\00:12:43.56 That's right. 00:12:43.59\00:12:45.33 You know, lot of my good holy people 00:12:45.36\00:12:47.03 their addictions are... 00:12:47.06\00:12:49.00 they've hidden it a little bit better than my perhaps. 00:12:49.03\00:12:50.70 Little covet. 00:12:50.73\00:12:53.07 Absolutely. 00:12:53.10\00:12:54.44 And it was after that I wanted to come back, I said, 00:12:54.47\00:12:56.00 "I don't know who God is yet really, 00:12:56.04\00:12:58.57 but I want to know who his God is." 00:12:58.61\00:13:01.14 And that was the beginning of the comeback. 00:13:01.18\00:13:03.51 Wow! So your dad just loved you, he just loved you back. 00:13:03.55\00:13:07.05 Through everything. Yes, yes. 00:13:07.08\00:13:09.52 No condemnation ever, in fact, if you ever talked to him. 00:13:09.55\00:13:12.22 I love your dad. No matter what. 00:13:12.25\00:13:13.62 We need to let you know who his dad is, 00:13:13.66\00:13:16.16 it's T. Marshall Kelly, the amazing singer, 00:13:16.19\00:13:19.36 speaker and the amazing man of God. 00:13:19.39\00:13:22.13 I mean, you can just sense 00:13:22.16\00:13:24.43 that he has such a relationship. 00:13:24.47\00:13:27.07 Real, it's not fake, it's not... 00:13:27.10\00:13:29.54 he just seems so I love your dad. 00:13:29.57\00:13:32.14 So authentic. 00:13:32.17\00:13:33.51 I'm his kid, I've been with him for all those years, 00:13:33.54\00:13:36.38 never once yelled, 00:13:36.41\00:13:37.98 never once said a bad word, never ever. 00:13:38.01\00:13:40.72 A couple times I was glad he left the room 00:13:40.75\00:13:42.72 where he didn't kill me, 00:13:42.75\00:13:44.52 but I'm still here, thank you Jesus, thanks dad. 00:13:44.55\00:13:47.46 Yes, yes, amen. 00:13:47.49\00:13:48.96 But it's so interesting that you went from spiraling down 00:13:48.99\00:13:53.93 to coming to your senses 00:13:53.96\00:13:56.67 and then look where God has brought you today. 00:13:56.70\00:14:00.44 I will tell you. 00:14:00.47\00:14:01.80 My career came up, it came up after that and it would plateau 00:14:01.84\00:14:05.74 and then jump up and plateau and then jump up. 00:14:05.77\00:14:09.28 Eventually, I became vice president 00:14:09.31\00:14:11.88 of a multimillion dollar corporation. 00:14:11.91\00:14:15.22 Most of the time I'm director, senior director, you know, 00:14:15.25\00:14:19.12 junior vice president and God has just blessed. 00:14:19.15\00:14:21.82 I mean there are times I would sit in an office and wonder, 00:14:21.86\00:14:24.33 how did I get here? 00:14:24.36\00:14:27.06 But since I know how I got there, it wasn't me. 00:14:27.10\00:14:31.07 So I can't use the word I, 00:14:31.10\00:14:33.20 I would say He put me in this room. 00:14:33.23\00:14:34.64 Yes. 00:14:34.67\00:14:36.00 So that I can bless somebody else. 00:14:36.04\00:14:37.37 Yes. 00:14:37.41\00:14:38.74 And there had been so many lessons 00:14:38.77\00:14:40.11 that have happened even since then, 00:14:40.14\00:14:42.11 that I realize everyday it's gonna be a new adventure, 00:14:42.14\00:14:44.98 I don't know what's going to happen, 00:14:45.01\00:14:46.35 but at the end of it I absolutely know 00:14:46.38\00:14:48.65 God is going to take care of me. 00:14:48.68\00:14:50.45 That's tremendous, that's tremendous. 00:14:50.49\00:14:52.62 Why do you think we need a program 00:14:52.65\00:14:54.66 like Working the Dream? 00:14:54.69\00:14:56.76 People go to work and if there's ever a time 00:14:56.79\00:15:00.26 or a point where sometimes I think we're increasingly, 00:15:00.30\00:15:04.90 becoming increasingly vulnerable, it's at work. 00:15:04.93\00:15:07.37 Right now in our society, work is everything. 00:15:07.40\00:15:12.41 People give up family duties to take care of their work. 00:15:12.44\00:15:16.38 They find a way to rationalize not having relationships 00:15:16.41\00:15:20.42 with their loved ones in their life due to work. 00:15:20.45\00:15:22.65 But I've got to go to work, I've got to make money. 00:15:22.68\00:15:24.79 We're all out there spending more, buying more, 00:15:24.82\00:15:28.29 we're so driven by consumerism and materialism 00:15:28.32\00:15:31.43 that work seems to be the only place 00:15:31.46\00:15:34.36 that we can justify our existence, 00:15:34.40\00:15:37.50 why we do what we do, 00:15:37.53\00:15:38.97 and I think Satan just capitalized on that. 00:15:39.00\00:15:41.94 So if you're coming to work, 00:15:41.97\00:15:43.30 he knows all the problems you have, 00:15:43.34\00:15:44.67 he sends me who is full of dark side to wait on you, 00:15:44.71\00:15:48.78 and you come in and say, "Good morning." 00:15:48.81\00:15:50.35 And he goes, "Boy, I think 00:15:50.38\00:15:51.71 I can get here through this guy today." 00:15:51.75\00:15:54.18 And I work your last nerve and then you lose faith. 00:15:54.22\00:15:59.15 And that's all he wanted in the first place 00:15:59.19\00:16:00.56 was your faith. 00:16:00.59\00:16:01.92 Mission accomplished. Absolutely. 00:16:01.96\00:16:03.29 Wow. So co-workers they design... 00:16:03.32\00:16:04.73 the ones that are under his power, 00:16:04.76\00:16:06.33 they're designed to take your faith. 00:16:06.36\00:16:09.66 That's really deep. 00:16:09.70\00:16:11.03 Now that is really deep, 00:16:11.07\00:16:12.60 just like there are people in every congregation 00:16:12.63\00:16:15.10 that can work you nerves. 00:16:15.14\00:16:16.87 Yes. 00:16:16.91\00:16:18.24 There are people at the workplace 00:16:18.27\00:16:20.38 that can work in us. 00:16:20.41\00:16:21.74 Satan's got his people everywhere, 00:16:21.78\00:16:23.11 but God's got people too. 00:16:23.14\00:16:24.51 That's right. 00:16:24.55\00:16:25.88 I've been blessed to work under some tremendous 00:16:25.91\00:16:27.25 Christian executives. 00:16:27.28\00:16:28.62 So somebody wants to paint all the excerpts with a brush, 00:16:28.65\00:16:31.15 not even. 00:16:31.19\00:16:32.82 I worked for CEO's, they were so Christian. 00:16:32.85\00:16:34.69 I'm not saying just, you know, 00:16:34.72\00:16:36.46 we go to church the only thing wrong, 00:16:36.49\00:16:37.83 I mean Christian men, men of compassion, 00:16:37.86\00:16:39.69 men that lead, 00:16:39.73\00:16:41.76 men that if there's a layoff they feel it in their spirit, 00:16:41.80\00:16:44.63 in other words they don't... 00:16:44.67\00:16:46.30 they're not callous about it 00:16:46.33\00:16:47.67 and I've been very blessed to work with some of those 00:16:47.70\00:16:49.27 and I've had a couple of the other side too. 00:16:49.30\00:16:51.61 I know... 00:16:51.64\00:16:53.48 and you reflect that in the program, you know, 00:16:53.51\00:16:56.98 we have a little clip from the program 00:16:57.01\00:17:00.75 that we want to show. 00:17:00.78\00:17:04.12 On Working the Dream, it's... 00:17:04.15\00:17:05.79 we want to give you some funny, some funny experiences 00:17:05.82\00:17:10.23 but yet we want to give you information, 00:17:10.26\00:17:13.63 and that's what you're gonna get, 00:17:13.66\00:17:15.70 take a look at this clip. 00:17:15.73\00:17:17.73 Has my 4 o'clock arrived yet? 00:17:20.77\00:17:25.04 All ready. 00:17:25.07\00:17:26.41 Oh, they told me to come in here, 00:17:26.44\00:17:27.78 you must be the Mr. Martin, they've been telling me about, 00:17:27.81\00:17:29.48 man, oh man, this looks like a good day for me. 00:17:29.51\00:17:33.21 Jonas, Jonas Martin and you are...? 00:17:33.25\00:17:35.98 Grant, but everybody call me G stacks, 00:17:36.02\00:17:38.72 you can call me whatever you want, man, 00:17:38.75\00:17:40.09 'cause you're the man with the job 00:17:40.12\00:17:41.46 that's gonna make me happy, I feel good today. 00:17:41.49\00:17:44.26 Yeah, my brother. 00:17:44.29\00:17:46.13 Tell me a little about yourself? 00:17:46.16\00:17:47.50 Man, okay, I tell you what, I'm the slam dunk champion, 00:17:47.53\00:17:49.30 the chess champion, the checker champion, 00:17:49.33\00:17:51.13 I moved to protestant neighborhood, 00:17:51.17\00:17:52.50 I got the highest score on Call of Duty, 00:17:52.53\00:17:54.07 what else you want to know, my brother? 00:17:54.10\00:17:55.54 All right, let's get that. 00:17:55.57\00:17:58.04 Why did you apply for the position 00:17:58.07\00:18:00.18 that we have here today? 00:18:00.21\00:18:01.54 Why? Too long. 00:22:19.17\00:22:20.54 How long should it be? 00:22:20.57\00:22:22.30 A page. 00:22:22.34\00:22:23.87 Page and a half at best, so if... 00:22:23.91\00:22:27.08 let's say you do walk on water 00:22:27.11\00:22:28.88 and let's say you can fly without your cape, 00:22:28.91\00:22:31.61 just put down the highlights and keep it short, 00:22:31.65\00:22:35.45 because it's too long and the people in HR 00:22:35.48\00:22:38.09 that are going through hundreds of resumes, 00:22:38.12\00:22:40.36 a five pager is just, 00:22:40.39\00:22:41.72 ah, it's too much, they throw it in the trash. 00:22:41.76\00:22:43.09 Right. 00:22:43.12\00:22:44.46 It's overwhelming, if you have a stack of papers 00:22:44.49\00:22:46.76 the last thing you want to do is just sit there and read. 00:22:46.80\00:22:48.93 Absolutely. 00:22:48.96\00:22:50.30 So you want to just kind of go through it. 00:22:50.33\00:22:52.00 That's exactly I want to come through it. 00:22:52.03\00:22:53.87 You had an interesting experience in your life 00:22:53.90\00:22:56.54 that really kind of brought you to your senses, what happened? 00:22:56.57\00:23:01.04 A couple of things happened and I've shared with you that 00:23:01.08\00:23:03.95 the career would go up and then plateau, go up and plateau, 00:23:03.98\00:23:07.38 so I am very comfortable 00:23:07.42\00:23:09.32 that God is growing me and developing me. 00:23:09.35\00:23:12.25 And I don't know the answer yet and I don't care. 00:23:12.29\00:23:14.56 You know, one day I get to heaven as tree of life, 00:23:14.59\00:23:16.73 I'm good with that. Yes. 00:23:16.76\00:23:18.16 I'm good, but a couple of things happened 00:23:18.19\00:23:20.40 and I think I shared with you. 00:23:20.43\00:23:22.50 Our companies merged 00:23:22.53\00:23:24.30 and when you're on a merger situation, 00:23:24.33\00:23:26.43 you only need half the people there. 00:23:26.47\00:23:28.64 So I was without, so there I was without a job 00:23:28.67\00:23:32.07 and I put some money away, so I wasn't terribly upset 00:23:32.11\00:23:34.94 and I said, "Okay, God is always taking care of me, 00:23:34.98\00:23:37.05 my entire life and I'm good." 00:23:37.08\00:23:39.68 And a couple of months went by, I said, "Okay, God, you know, 00:23:39.71\00:23:43.45 we need some going." 00:23:43.49\00:23:45.12 Couple of more months went by. 00:23:45.15\00:23:47.32 So after about six or eight months, 00:23:47.36\00:23:49.56 God and I started have some big conversations, 00:23:49.59\00:23:52.23 I said, "God, I need you to come through for me." 00:23:52.26\00:23:54.86 Now let me give you my personality a little bit. 00:23:54.90\00:23:58.63 Where I grew up in the city, 00:23:58.67\00:24:01.44 one of the favorite phrases I had was, 00:24:01.47\00:24:03.51 I don't care what you did to me, 00:24:03.54\00:24:04.87 I ain't no punk, 00:24:04.91\00:24:06.24 you can beat me down, if you beat me up, 00:24:06.27\00:24:08.44 I want to try to get off the ground 00:24:08.48\00:24:10.05 to find a brick or something, 00:24:10.08\00:24:11.41 if you're bigger than me, you're stronger. 00:24:11.45\00:24:12.78 So I would always say, you know, I ain't no punk, 00:24:12.81\00:24:14.15 whenever I can take it, I can do anything. 00:24:14.18\00:24:15.85 So fear is not a motivator for me, 00:24:15.88\00:24:18.22 it doesn't really 00:24:18.25\00:24:19.82 and I remember kind of saying that 00:24:19.85\00:24:21.62 over and over again and then one day, 00:24:21.66\00:24:24.86 I was totally broken down, 00:24:24.89\00:24:26.86 it was about nine to ten months without a job. 00:24:26.90\00:24:29.56 And I don't care how much of money you've saved up, 00:24:29.60\00:24:31.10 it gets a little scary right about then. 00:24:31.13\00:24:34.14 So I remember I curled up on my family room rug. 00:24:34.17\00:24:37.61 And somewhere this God impressed told my spirit, 00:24:37.64\00:24:41.28 I can almost hear God say, "So are you a punk?" 00:24:41.31\00:24:45.65 And I heard myself say, "Yes". 00:24:45.68\00:24:50.69 And I think what he was doing was look, 00:24:50.72\00:24:53.79 you've been running around thinking that you're strong. 00:24:53.82\00:24:57.33 There's nothing has happened to you in your life 00:24:57.36\00:24:59.66 because of your strength. 00:24:59.69\00:25:02.50 Now here's the kicker on that one. 00:25:02.53\00:25:04.57 Within two weeks of that happening 00:25:04.60\00:25:08.80 I was consulting on a big project 00:25:08.84\00:25:11.14 in Stavanger, Norway. 00:25:11.17\00:25:14.08 God went from here to here in seconds. 00:25:14.11\00:25:19.18 You just needed to be broken first 00:25:19.21\00:25:21.65 and to understand your source. 00:25:21.68\00:25:25.12 People don't like this 00:25:25.15\00:25:26.52 and this might make this segment a little bit unpopular. 00:25:26.55\00:25:29.92 God can only help broken people. 00:25:29.96\00:25:33.96 He said that, "Blessed are..." 00:25:34.00\00:25:37.87 Because when you have any sense of self, 00:25:37.90\00:25:41.30 any sense of I, 00:25:41.34\00:25:43.20 He can't, He can't work through you. 00:25:43.24\00:25:46.21 That's right. 00:25:46.24\00:25:47.58 And that's dangerous for us at work. 00:25:47.61\00:25:49.71 Yes, it's dangerous everywhere. 00:25:49.74\00:25:52.91 I mean really, when it becomes about us... 00:25:52.95\00:25:55.98 Absolutely 00:25:56.02\00:25:57.35 Then I think the Lord just 00:25:57.39\00:25:58.72 kind of steps back and says, "Okay..." 00:25:58.75\00:26:00.09 "Let me see what happened."
