I get calls and 00:01:24.35\00:01:27.28 and people want... you know... where is the recipe for this and 00:01:27.32\00:01:30.35 and I tell them, "Go to the website, 00:01:30.39\00:01:32.39 go to the website... you can get the recipe" 00:01:32.42\00:01:34.69 so, what is it that you're looking to do when you're doing 00:01:34.72\00:01:39.89 A Taste of Paradise, when you're hosting 00:01:39.93\00:01:42.36 what are you trying to accomplish... 00:01:42.40\00:01:44.77 To make people realize that it is a joy to eat healthy 00:01:44.80\00:01:51.41 Hmmm... and it can be fun 00:01:51.44\00:01:53.34 and it's flavorful... it doesn't have to be bland 00:01:53.38\00:01:56.71 and they could eat some of the similar dishes 00:01:56.75\00:01:59.58 that they're used to but it could be raw... 00:01:59.61\00:02:02.45 and it's remarkable... because you know 00:02:02.48\00:02:05.85 I've done tacos, I've done enchiladas, 00:02:05.89\00:02:09.26 I've done lasagna, 00:02:09.29\00:02:10.46 and all of it has been raw... You're making me hungry... 00:02:10.49\00:02:13.13 I know, it's so good... and a lot of people 00:02:13.16\00:02:18.60 don't realize that you can do raw foods and it tastes good, 00:02:18.63\00:02:23.67 you can make all these different recipes 00:02:23.71\00:02:25.94 with raw food and it really tastes good... 00:02:25.97\00:02:28.14 Exactly... What about you Nyse, 00:02:28.18\00:02:29.71 what are you looking to cook? Well, you know, 00:02:29.74\00:02:30.78 I got to cook it up a little bit... 00:02:30.81\00:02:32.38 Come on... come on... that's how we balance 00:02:32.41\00:02:34.42 each other out... since you kept us separate 00:02:34.45\00:02:36.45 so much... sometimes, if you noticed, 00:02:36.48\00:02:38.75 I had to jump on Evita's show and sometimes 00:02:38.79\00:02:40.99 Evita jumps on mine but it's... the whole purpose is 00:02:41.02\00:02:44.96 just to encourage people to engage in a healthy lifestyle 00:02:44.99\00:02:48.36 and show them that it's cool, it's fun and it's tasty, 00:02:48.40\00:02:51.70 as Evita mentioned here... a lot of times 00:02:51.73\00:02:53.57 when people associate food, and they think of food 00:02:53.60\00:02:56.37 as either... it's an addiction it's bad for you 00:02:56.40\00:02:59.27 or something like that or totally healthy for you 00:02:59.31\00:03:02.11 but it doesn't taste good... and so, what we're trying to do 00:03:02.14\00:03:05.41 is, you know, trying to get rid of that and find a middle ground 00:03:05.45\00:03:08.68 where it tastes good, it doesn't have to be an addiction 00:03:08.72\00:03:11.89 and hey if you have a second piece, you know, 00:03:11.92\00:03:13.72 it's not a problem because it's good for you 00:03:13.76\00:03:15.89 but then also to encourage them and educate them 00:03:15.92\00:03:18.09 on what they're actually eating, a lot of times, 00:03:18.13\00:03:20.30 when we eat food like if you're having a 00:03:20.33\00:03:22.06 hamburger or something you know it tastes good, 00:03:22.10\00:03:24.30 but you're like, "Man, I'm going to hit the gym 00:03:24.33\00:03:26.47 again or something like that but now, 00:03:26.50\00:03:28.60 when you make an "oatburger" or I don't know... 00:03:28.64\00:03:32.21 "unsausage" or I something that we made on the show, 00:03:32.24\00:03:34.38 you can eat it and you're saying "Man, that oat is actually 00:03:34.41\00:03:37.31 good for my brain so, man, it's good for that and... 00:03:37.35\00:03:39.71 and the nuts that are also there is going to help to lower my 00:03:39.75\00:03:43.79 cholesterol... or something of that nature, 00:03:43.82\00:03:45.52 so, now you're enjoying something that tastes good 00:03:45.55\00:03:48.49 but... at the same time, you know, it's good for you... 00:03:48.52\00:03:51.46 so, I don't usually say this... 00:03:51.49\00:03:53.40 I hope you don't get into trouble or get me in trouble... 00:03:53.43\00:03:56.00 I call it, "Eating Ecstasy" a little bit... 00:03:56.03\00:03:57.97 now not the drug or anything like that... 00:03:58.00\00:03:59.77 because you're eating something good... 00:03:59.80\00:04:01.37 Yes... and at the same time you know 00:04:01.40\00:04:02.90 it's good for you, so, it's like you're in a cloud... 00:04:02.94\00:04:05.47 you know what I mean, at the same time and so, 00:04:05.51\00:04:07.84 we want food to be an enjoyable experience 00:04:07.88\00:04:10.18 and also a healthy experience and something that 00:04:10.21\00:04:14.18 people can start sharing with others... 00:04:14.22\00:04:16.12 and that's the whole point for us, I believe here at 00:04:16.15\00:04:18.79 A Taste of Paradise... we don't want you to like 00:04:18.82\00:04:21.42 take this and keep it for yourself, 00:04:21.46\00:04:22.96 but now, take it and share it with other people and so 00:04:22.99\00:04:25.66 it's truly been a blast and so many seasons now 00:04:25.69\00:04:29.73 that we're going so, I'm excited... I'm excited. 00:04:29.76\00:04:32.93 I'm excited too... 00:04:32.97\00:04:33.97 And I had a viewer that called me that was using 00:04:34.00\00:04:36.67 some of my recipes at a gathering 00:04:36.71\00:04:39.27 and she had invited all these people over and she was making 00:04:39.31\00:04:42.48 three of the recipes and she was so excited 00:04:42.51\00:04:44.58 so, it's such a blessing... and she was sharing it with friends 00:04:44.61\00:04:48.58 Isn't that great to share health with friends... 00:04:48.62\00:04:53.19 that's such a blessing, that's such a great thing to do. 00:04:53.22\00:04:56.36 One of the things that I love about what you guys do 00:04:56.39\00:05:01.40 is... you will take items that are familiar like the 00:05:01.43\00:05:06.43 "Mac and Cheese" "Nachos and Cheese" 00:05:06.47\00:05:09.64 I say "Cheese" with a Z and what's good is that 00:05:09.67\00:05:14.31 you're not sacrificing taste, viewers, you have to try 00:05:14.34\00:05:19.35 these recipes... these recipes are phenomenal... 00:05:19.38\00:05:22.85 I mean, I... okay... most people know 00:05:22.88\00:05:25.39 that my son, Mark, is not... like... a big "soy person" 00:05:25.42\00:05:29.32 "tofu person" and I made the Tikin... 00:05:29.36\00:05:33.60 the Tasty Tikin... not chicken but Tasty Tikin 00:05:33.63\00:05:37.13 so you remember that, huh? yeah and so, I said, 00:05:37.17\00:05:40.67 "Why don't you just try a piece?" 00:05:40.70\00:05:42.40 and he said, "No, that's okay" and I said, "No, just try one" 00:05:42.44\00:05:45.74 well, after that... "Are you going to make 00:05:45.77\00:05:48.14 that tofu again?" I'm like, "Okay... " 00:05:48.18\00:05:50.61 and that's what we want... we want to be able to 00:05:50.65\00:05:53.88 take these recipes and use them and have people share them 00:05:53.92\00:05:59.49 with others who don't eat well, and we can help them 00:05:59.52\00:06:03.16 with their health... I mean, it's just great... 00:06:03.19\00:06:06.29 that's ultimately the message 00:06:06.33\00:06:08.30 God has given us something better in our lives... 00:06:08.33\00:06:11.33 all right... the world shows one thing... 00:06:11.37\00:06:13.23 and then He's going to show us, "All right... cool... 00:06:13.27\00:06:14.80 you enjoy that or whatever... 00:06:14.84\00:06:16.00 but watch this... let me... I'm going to still meet your 00:06:16.04\00:06:18.04 desire... so I'm going to give you something good 00:06:18.07\00:06:20.18 that tastes better... it's going to take a little 00:06:20.21\00:06:21.88 effort... now, you know... making some of these recipes 00:06:21.91\00:06:24.25 is not, you know, you can't just put it in the microwave 00:06:24.28\00:06:26.58 or anything... it will take a little effort... 00:06:26.61\00:06:28.05 but when you put in the effort you're going to be fulfilled 00:06:28.08\00:06:30.29 you're going to be fulfilled most important... all right... 00:06:30.32\00:06:32.45 so, you'll be fulfilling your taste buds... 00:06:32.49\00:06:34.39 but at the end of the day you're mind relaxes 00:06:34.42\00:06:36.29 because I did something good, I earned it... I worked for it 00:06:36.32\00:06:39.46 and it was an enjoyable experience 00:06:39.49\00:06:40.86 so, ultimately... He's going to give you something better 00:06:40.90\00:06:43.90 than what you originally wanted... 00:06:43.93\00:06:45.87 and so that's the good news 00:06:45.90\00:06:48.30 because we may eat those chicken nuggets 00:06:48.34\00:06:49.90 and stuff like that... and we're wondering, 00:06:49.94\00:06:51.54 "Man, what went into it... " or whatever... 00:06:51.57\00:06:53.14 "It did taste good, but at the same time, you know, 00:06:53.17\00:06:55.71 is it going to help me... I'm feeling sadly... 00:06:55.74\00:06:58.05 and I'm tired and weak and stuff 00:06:58.08\00:06:59.65 so that's the ultimate goal ultimately... the true paradise 00:06:59.68\00:07:03.95 and having it... where we have all of the 00:07:03.99\00:07:06.32 eating off of the tree of life, and stuff like that... 00:07:06.35\00:07:09.06 Hmmm... We're really being raw... right? 00:07:09.09\00:07:10.36 awww... man... that got me... but we are in a situation where 00:07:10.39\00:07:15.00 and that's funny Evita that sometimes when I travel... 00:07:15.03\00:07:18.93 people are like, "Well, you should go raw too" 00:07:18.97\00:07:20.50 I'm like, "Hello... I go raw, I was just showing you 00:07:20.54\00:07:22.80 one or two recipes that we can cook as well... " 00:07:22.84\00:07:25.07 Well, but ultimately we know at the end of the day 00:07:25.11\00:07:27.81 as well... sometimes God... well, it does show 00:07:27.84\00:07:30.18 that God had actually cursed the ground for our own good... 00:07:30.21\00:07:32.91 you know, after the fall, and the situation there, 00:07:32.95\00:07:35.62 and so, sometimes there are some foods that your body 00:07:35.65\00:07:38.79 can't handle, you know, a person in a debilitated state 00:07:38.82\00:07:41.96 they may need it to be cooked just a little bit there 00:07:41.99\00:07:44.29 so, we're just finding that nice balance there... 00:07:44.33\00:07:46.63 That's the key word... balance... 00:07:46.66\00:07:48.86 I believe in balance... which is why we have 00:07:48.90\00:07:51.20 A Taste of Paradise because the balance 00:07:51.23\00:07:53.54 of the raw and the cooked I think is critical... 00:07:53.57\00:07:56.50 because there are some people who... some people are "purists" 00:07:56.54\00:08:01.81 they're like, "Okay, I'm only going to do raw... " 00:08:01.84\00:08:04.58 or... "I'm only going to do like 95 percent raw... 00:08:04.61\00:08:10.25 and 5 percent cooked... but I believe in the balance... 00:08:10.29\00:08:13.52 and that's what I tell the viewers when they call... 00:08:13.56\00:08:16.56 they say, "Do you advocate a 100 percent raw diet?" 00:08:16.59\00:08:19.19 and I said, "No, you need to have a balance... " 00:08:19.23\00:08:21.76 but I said, "It should be high raw... 00:08:21.80\00:08:24.00 because that's where all the nutrients are... 00:08:24.03\00:08:27.30 and it gives you that spunk and it clears your mind 00:08:27.34\00:08:31.74 it's just a blessing... " And you're skin... okay... 00:08:31.77\00:08:33.98 look at your skin... one of the things that you 00:08:34.01\00:08:37.18 made that... it's just... the crackers... 00:08:37.21\00:08:41.15 Yes... But every time you guys come 00:08:41.18\00:08:42.58 I have to tell you... every time we do 00:08:42.62\00:08:43.82 A Taste of Paradise... right... all of our crew is like... 00:08:43.85\00:08:47.59 so happy... because we get to eat really good stuff 00:08:47.62\00:08:51.99 it's very healthy... but it also really tastes good 00:08:52.03\00:08:55.50 that eggplant jerky... Yes... 00:08:55.53\00:08:59.60 Man! it's some dangerous stuff! Don't worry... I have a secret 00:08:59.63\00:09:06.01 how do I say, "paparazzi photo" 00:09:06.04\00:09:08.68 Come on... of Evita eating something cooked 00:09:08.71\00:09:12.48 I got it... I got it... I'm going to release it... 00:09:12.51\00:09:15.42 just in case... she doesn't behave... 00:09:15.45\00:09:17.42 but, no... no... no... but it's all good... 00:09:17.45\00:09:21.06 definitely you want to increase some of those items... 00:09:21.09\00:09:24.39 and a lot of times... even on my segment, you'll see 00:09:24.43\00:09:27.66 I use some salads or different items of that nature there 00:09:27.66\00:09:30.70 but it's crucial to find out 00:09:30.73\00:09:33.20 find that balance... of course you want to lean 00:09:33.23\00:09:35.40 a little bit more to the fresh foods and stuff, 00:09:35.44\00:09:39.14 but, if you do it right and enjoy it and stuff... 00:09:39.17\00:09:42.88 no matter what, even they show people 00:09:42.91\00:09:44.81 who don't eat the best food but are content 00:09:44.85\00:09:47.48 and they enjoy life and they are satisfied... 00:09:47.52\00:09:50.09 I mean it literally starts in the mind 00:09:50.12\00:09:52.15 most importantly... and they're not in the best 00:09:52.19\00:09:56.19 physical condition... but they're calm 00:09:56.22\00:09:58.19 and the body can handle the stress because a lot of people 00:09:58.23\00:10:00.70 eat super healthy... but they're stressed out all the time... 00:10:00.73\00:10:03.00 Absolutely... and their body is in a worse 00:10:03.03\00:10:05.17 condition sometimes so... they key is... find that balance 00:10:05.20\00:10:07.70 of course, always lean and trust in the Lord 00:10:07.74\00:10:09.80 and that's when the blessings will come... 00:10:09.84\00:10:11.94 and then... just follow the recipes 00:10:11.97\00:10:13.54 watch Evita and myself and... And I think, like you said, 00:10:13.58\00:10:17.25 it's a balance because Nyse and I both have... 00:10:17.28\00:10:20.12 some recipes that are a little complex but we have 00:10:20.15\00:10:22.78 some that are simple and using simple ingredients... 00:10:22.82\00:10:25.39 and there are so many "food deserts" around here... 00:10:25.42\00:10:28.59 that people don't have fresh fruits and vegetables... 00:10:28.62\00:10:31.79 so they can get... whatever they can... 00:10:31.83\00:10:35.46 in their hometown or in the store that's next to their 00:10:35.50\00:10:39.40 Community... and they can work with what they have 00:10:39.43\00:10:42.57 and use some of our ingredients. That's such a good point 00:10:42.60\00:10:45.21 because so many urban areas 00:10:45.24\00:10:48.64 have poor produce 00:10:48.68\00:10:50.01 and I was reading something not too long ago, 00:10:50.05\00:10:53.18 that said that if your store... your local grocery store 00:10:53.21\00:10:58.05 doesn't have good produce... go to the Manager 00:10:58.09\00:11:01.29 and tell him that you need better produce... 00:11:01.32\00:11:04.49 because if you do that, 00:11:04.53\00:11:06.66 then you can get them to move 00:11:06.70\00:11:08.46 and you can get better produce in your neighborhoods 00:11:08.50\00:11:12.20 we have all kinds of candy stores, liquor stores, 00:11:12.23\00:11:15.87 all those things in the Hood so to speak 00:11:15.90\00:11:19.31 but we don't have great stores for produce, so one of the 00:11:19.34\00:11:23.48 things we can do... as people on Dare to Dream... 00:11:23.51\00:11:27.08 is... encourage people to go out... to their stores... 00:11:27.12\00:11:31.15 and say, "Hey, we really need better produce... " 00:11:31.19\00:11:33.62 Yeah, that's the focus... of us trying to work with people 00:11:33.66\00:11:36.99 and where they're at... a lot of times when I go to 00:11:37.03\00:11:39.59 different places... I have actually like our series 00:11:39.63\00:11:43.03 on DVD... as you see... here is A Taste of Paradise 00:11:43.06\00:11:45.80 and people always say, "Yeah, I've seen the Program 00:11:45.83\00:11:48.50 like on those DVDs and stuff, the only problem I have is 00:11:48.54\00:11:52.94 when I hear cooking programs 00:11:52.97\00:11:54.48 they always use these weird ingredients and stuff like that 00:11:54.51\00:11:56.78 and I'm like, "No, you don't have to worry about that... 00:11:56.81\00:11:59.68 Evita... she's using just fresh like how weird can you get 00:11:59.71\00:12:02.58 with fresh items... she's only using that 00:12:02.62\00:12:04.79 and then I'm just using one or two additional items 00:12:04.82\00:12:06.89 that I just add a little heat to it... and so, as a result, 00:12:06.92\00:12:10.93 they're like, "Yeah, great, we want the whole series 00:12:10.96\00:12:12.63 and stuff... here you've seen this already... 00:12:12.66\00:12:15.60 I love it... and so that's actually our focus 00:12:15.63\00:12:17.97 is to use simple things... we were in South Africa 00:12:18.00\00:12:20.87 they're like, "Can we do this, because a lot of their products 00:12:20.90\00:12:23.17 are only found in North America... " 00:12:23.20\00:12:24.44 we're like, "No, you have fruits veggies and nuts and grains... " 00:12:24.47\00:12:27.24 they're saying, "Yeah" "Then you can do this. " 00:12:27.28\00:12:28.61 We're in Australia... 00:12:28.64\00:12:30.21 we're in Asia... everywhere we go... 00:12:30.25\00:12:31.95 people can implement this program... you know, 00:12:31.98\00:12:34.92 with maybe one or two specialty items 00:12:34.95\00:12:37.45 but Evita probably shows different ways 00:12:37.49\00:12:39.89 that they can use something else if they don't have that... 00:12:39.92\00:12:43.19 and I do the same as well... 00:12:43.22\00:12:44.46 so, that's the focus... is to make it very simple 00:12:44.49\00:12:47.50 easy... so that we all can enjoy "A Taste of Paradise... " 00:12:47.50\00:12:50.17 This is the season when we have the collard greens, 00:12:50.20\00:12:53.07 Mac and cheese, Tikin... right... I love it... love it... 00:12:53.10\00:12:56.94 We've been moving up the line on the seasons... and stuff 00:12:56.97\00:13:00.81 so we have quite a bit available now... that a lot of people will 00:13:00.84\00:13:05.05 enjoy so that's the good thing about it... 00:13:05.08\00:13:08.62 That is so awesome... we want people to know 00:13:08.65\00:13:12.12 that these recipes are available and they're easy to do... 00:13:12.15\00:13:16.29 it's not that hard... I mean... really... it's... 00:13:16.32\00:13:20.10 just like you said... a little while ago... 00:13:20.13\00:13:21.46 it takes a little bit more time but it's not really... 00:13:21.50\00:13:24.30 it's not hard to put them together... 00:13:24.33\00:13:26.03 and make... a really good meal and experiment... 00:13:26.07\00:13:28.27 people can experiment... you said, "Eat the rainbow... " 00:13:28.30\00:13:31.64 Exactly... All the different colors, 00:13:31.67\00:13:33.68 you know, your salads are so beautiful... 00:13:33.71\00:13:36.04 and they're tasty... it's just, this is... 00:13:36.08\00:13:39.78 really the way to go, 00:13:39.81\00:13:41.18 One person said, "You eat fast food, you live a fast life" 00:13:41.22\00:13:43.95 you're here today... going tonight... 00:13:43.99\00:13:45.49 literally... you don't have to wait till tomorrow 00:13:45.52\00:13:47.09 people are dying of heart attacks or strokes... 00:13:47.12\00:13:48.66 you hear it all the time... "What! Johnny's dead? 00:13:48.69\00:13:50.93 Bobby's dead?" and you're like, 00:13:50.96\00:13:52.73 "I just saw him... " and people are dropping 00:13:52.76\00:13:54.40 left and right... if you eat fast food... 00:13:54.46\00:13:56.06 but if you take the time and make some slow food, 00:13:56.10\00:13:58.23 you know, it's going to take a little preparation... 00:13:58.27\00:14:00.64 you'll live a longer, greater quality of life... 00:14:00.67\00:14:02.97 and people are like, "Well, I'm going to die anyway" 00:14:03.00\00:14:05.91 yeah, you're right... you want to die fast 00:14:05.94\00:14:07.84 or you want to take your time and enjoy... 00:14:07.88\00:14:09.71 one person said, "Well, it only shows you can improve the 00:14:09.74\00:14:13.11 quality of life by 3 or 4 or 5 years... " 00:14:13.15\00:14:15.08 I'm like, "Yeah, no problem, then just eat whatever you want 00:14:15.12\00:14:17.45 not a lot of things happen in 3 or 5 years... " 00:14:17.49\00:14:19.32 I was like, "What could possibly happen... your grandchildren, 00:14:19.35\00:14:22.62 you know... could come, somebody can meet somebody 00:14:22.66\00:14:24.86 and get married... how long does that take? 00:14:24.89\00:14:26.56 that only takes, who knows, some people meet each other 00:14:26.59\00:14:28.90 in 2 or 3 months and they're already married and stuff... 00:14:28.93\00:14:31.27 so you know, if you cut off 5 years of your life 00:14:31.30\00:14:33.87 then, hey, then you didn't miss much... 00:14:33.90\00:14:35.74 but actually... you are missing a lot... " 00:14:35.77\00:14:37.57 Absolutely... The only thing is that you need 00:14:37.61\00:14:39.61 about 9 months for the baby, or the grandchildren 00:14:39.64\00:14:41.98 or something of that nature... so the key is... 00:14:42.01\00:14:44.35 take your time... make some good food, 00:14:44.38\00:14:46.15 you'll enjoy life now and you'll enjoy it later as well. 00:14:46.18\00:14:49.58 Absolutely... how did you guys get involved with food, you know 00:14:49.62\00:14:54.12 and it's properties and 00:14:54.16\00:14:56.46 how it helps the body 00:14:56.49\00:14:58.73 how did you guys get involved, how did you do it? 00:14:58.76\00:15:02.00 Well, several years ago, I was going to this Church 00:15:02.03\00:15:05.30 and this couple came up and they had just come back 00:15:05.33\00:15:08.54 from Uchee Pines... and I was so inquisitive... 00:15:08.57\00:15:11.67 because I had eczema... I had allergies and they said, 00:15:11.71\00:15:15.28 "I can show you how to get rid of that naturally... " 00:15:15.31\00:15:18.81 I said, "What?" and they brought me to their 00:15:18.85\00:15:21.05 home and started cooking for me, and they said, 00:15:21.08\00:15:24.39 "You can do this too. " So, the next time they went to 00:15:24.42\00:15:27.82 Uchee Pines... I went with them, and it changed my whole life... 00:15:27.86\00:15:30.73 and this was in the early 80s... yeah, this was in the 80s... 00:15:30.76\00:15:34.20 Early 80s? Well, the late 80s... 00:15:34.20\00:15:36.60 You were just a young little girl then... 00:15:36.63\00:15:38.90 No, I was... She was only 10... 00:15:38.93\00:15:44.47 That's awesome... so what you're doing now 00:15:44.51\00:15:49.11 is basically what they did for you... 00:15:49.14\00:15:51.71 Exactly... exactly... Right... 00:15:51.75\00:15:53.45 on a larger scale because you're on television 00:15:53.48\00:15:55.98 Yeah... but they took me in their home and they nurtured me 00:15:56.02\00:15:59.92 and they showed me simple ingredients... 00:15:59.95\00:16:02.56 they made oatburger patties for me... 00:16:02.59\00:16:05.46 all these different things... and I said, 00:16:05.49\00:16:08.26 "I've never seen this before" and I was so convicted 00:16:08.30\00:16:12.83 and I started to feel better just by eating the food 00:16:12.87\00:16:15.34 that they cooked for me in their home... 00:16:15.37\00:16:17.57 and I said, "Okay, I'm gong to do this... " 00:16:17.61\00:16:19.77 and I went cold turkey... yeah, I went cold turkey... 00:16:19.81\00:16:23.18 I stopped eating beef and the chicken and things like that 00:16:23.21\00:16:27.38 and then gradually... I went to a total plant-food diet... 00:16:27.42\00:16:31.55 And that's another thing that I love about 00:16:31.59\00:16:34.89 A Taste of Paradise... because if you are transitioning 00:16:34.92\00:16:38.29 into... you know, some people are like 00:16:38.33\00:16:40.80 what do I do... where do I start... 00:16:40.83\00:16:43.16 this also, lets people know how to start transitioning 00:16:43.20\00:16:47.80 into a healthier lifestyle... because a lot of times 00:16:47.84\00:16:52.41 we say, "Okay... I want to do it but... how... what do I eat 00:16:52.44\00:16:57.18 and how do I make it and can I fry... can I deep fry... " 00:16:57.21\00:17:01.88 you know... you guys just help with that... 00:17:01.92\00:17:05.99 How did you start Nyse? 00:17:06.02\00:17:07.82 I can't put a specific finger on it... like this was the time 00:17:07.86\00:17:11.73 or whatever... I always dreamed of those moments 00:17:11.76\00:17:13.46 that I could have like Evita experience 00:17:13.50\00:17:15.50 for me it was a little different I was more of a knucklehead 00:17:15.53\00:17:20.97 or whatever... like that... I learned slowly but surely 00:17:21.00\00:17:24.94 along the way... just little things... 00:17:24.97\00:17:27.74 I used to play football... and I found when I ate 00:17:27.78\00:17:31.61 a healthier diet, I was like vegetarian 00:17:31.65\00:17:33.78 during football season and I would be able to run faster 00:17:33.82\00:17:36.62 and I'd have more endurance and stuff like that... 00:17:36.65\00:17:39.65 and I was like, "Cool!" so then, after football season 00:17:39.69\00:17:42.29 I ate any and everything that moved... you know... 00:17:42.32\00:17:44.86 I'd just bite into Evita with some hot sauce or something 00:17:44.89\00:17:49.83 but then... one off-season, I waited... 00:17:49.86\00:17:53.50 and I didn't eat any other foods 00:17:53.54\00:17:56.10 and I just kept the diet... healthy... 00:17:56.14\00:17:57.64 and then when I went back to train and practice again 00:17:57.67\00:17:59.94 I was bouncing... you know... which is normally the hardest 00:18:00.04\00:18:02.91 time... when you stop playing and then start again... 00:18:02.94\00:18:04.88 and then my mom... she had breast cancer... 00:18:04.91\00:18:06.41 but by the time they had found it... 00:18:06.45\00:18:07.78 it had spread throughout the body... 00:18:07.82\00:18:09.08 and so, you know, they just went ahead and they just 00:18:09.12\00:18:10.95 cut off that part there... and then the doctor 00:18:10.99\00:18:15.46 who is not an Adventist doctor, he said, 00:18:15.49\00:18:16.99 "Hey, maybe if you go home... " this was back in the days 00:18:17.03\00:18:20.16 when they used to give you time to live... 00:18:20.20\00:18:21.66 he said, "I give you about 2 months to live or whatever... 00:18:21.70\00:18:24.03 because it has already metastasized... " 00:18:24.07\00:18:25.73 and he was like... "Go home and stay away from free radicals" 00:18:25.77\00:18:28.07 and we were like... "What are you talking about?" 00:18:28.10\00:18:29.24 He was like... you know... milk, eggs, cheese, fish... 00:18:29.27\00:18:31.47 any animal products... because these produce 00:18:31.51\00:18:33.61 cancer cells... free radicals" and we were like, 00:18:33.64\00:18:36.14 "What, is this man crazy... " my mom was from Trinidad 00:18:36.18\00:18:39.11 my dad was from Italy... like in our family... 00:18:39.15\00:18:41.55 if anything moved... we threw either... like Italians 00:18:41.58\00:18:43.65 we threw tomato paste on you or something... 00:18:43.69\00:18:46.82 from Trinidad... we throw curry on you... 00:18:46.86\00:18:48.89 so it got so bad in our house one time... 00:18:48.92\00:18:50.96 we made like... curry lasagna... 00:18:50.99\00:18:52.99 you got that... right... Yeah... curry and lasagna... 00:18:53.03\00:18:57.20 I know... you all are probably thinking 00:18:57.23\00:18:58.30 what in the world is that... but it tastes good... 00:18:58.33\00:19:00.60 you should try to make that one sometime... 00:19:00.64\00:19:01.97 but we ate everything... but what happened is... 00:19:02.00\00:19:04.57 mom went home and she prayed... most importantly 00:19:04.61\00:19:07.11 because the healing doesn't come from food... it comes from God 00:19:07.14\00:19:09.11 you know, He just blesses our efforts while we 00:19:09.14\00:19:11.51 when we live that lifestyle... we prayed 00:19:11.55\00:19:13.95 and you know what happened... Mom is alive 00:19:13.98\00:19:15.98 like 20 something years later... Wow! praise God... 00:19:16.02\00:19:19.12 and it was hard... but then... she threw everything out 00:19:19.15\00:19:21.96 the kitchen and... we're like, "What are we going to eat... 00:19:21.99\00:19:24.76 you're sick not us... " and... 00:19:24.79\00:19:25.89 without realizing that you were eating things that made her sick 00:19:26.29\00:19:27.66 But, it was a blessing because mom was like, 00:19:27.93\00:19:30.07 "Do you love me... " and we were like, "Yes... " 00:19:30.10\00:19:31.13 she was like... "then... help me" 00:19:31.17\00:19:32.80 so, what did I start doing 00:19:32.83\00:19:34.20 from a young age? Hmmm... look at God 00:19:42.74\00:19:46.11 and the plan that He had... "The WOW Series... " 00:21:13.17\00:21:14.74 you've heard... "The WOW Series... " 00:21:14.77\00:21:17.07 W O W - it's a week of wellness, 00:21:17.11\00:21:19.34 Week of Wellness is a weekend program or a week program... 00:21:19.37\00:21:23.88 and what we do is... we come in... 00:21:23.91\00:21:25.18 we work with individuals... I'd like you to take a quick look, 00:21:25.21\00:21:29.55 we work with individuals... sometimes we do screenings 00:21:29.58\00:21:32.35 as well... and one gentleman like in New York 00:21:32.39\00:21:35.52 his blood sugars were 444 Wow! 00:21:35.56\00:21:40.23 That's a wow! watch this... and he followed 00:21:40.26\00:21:42.96 the program and in one week when we tested him again, 00:21:43.00\00:21:46.00 because we have doctors and nurses that come and assist us 00:21:46.03\00:21:48.77 when we tested him again, his numbers had dropped down 00:21:48.80\00:21:51.47 to 126... no medication... 00:21:51.51\00:21:54.28 we encouraged him to follow along with doctor's instructions 00:21:54.31\00:21:56.64 let your doctor know what you are doing 00:21:56.68\00:21:58.35 you participated in the WOW Series... 00:21:58.38\00:21:59.88 a week of wellness... and it went from 444 to 126 00:21:59.91\00:22:03.99 in one week... Wow! 00:22:04.02\00:22:06.96 There you go... you got it there it is... 00:22:06.99\00:22:08.86 that's the WOW Series... so, we go to different churches 00:22:08.89\00:22:11.86 we go to businesses... we go to schools... 00:22:11.89\00:22:14.83 we host these programs there... myself... or the different 00:22:14.86\00:22:18.13 consultants on the team, hint... hint... 00:22:18.17\00:22:21.14 and a lot of people enjoy it 00:22:21.17\00:22:23.94 because our focus is not to tell you what to do, 00:22:23.97\00:22:26.01 but to encourage you 00:22:26.04\00:22:27.18 find out where you're at right now 00:22:27.21\00:22:29.11 and help you make the transition you know, 00:22:29.14\00:22:31.05 and work with people a step at a time... 00:22:31.08\00:22:32.78 like I literally got in trouble in one "Church" 00:22:32.81\00:22:34.88 it was like... "Oh, the people here eat meat" 00:22:35.58\00:22:36.85 and I was like, "What's the problem?" 00:22:36.89\00:22:38.19 it was like, "Tell them to be vegan vegetarian... " 00:22:38.22\00:22:39.89 I said, "Where does it say that you have to be vegan vegetarian" 00:22:39.92\00:22:42.19 so, I went to the church and I did a program 00:22:42.22\00:22:44.36 I was like, if you enjoy chicken no problem... 00:22:44.39\00:22:46.49 just do it the way the Lord instructed 00:22:46.53\00:22:48.43 and the pastor was like, "No, Nyse, get down... " 00:22:48.46\00:22:50.77 and I was like... "wait a second... 00:22:50.80\00:22:52.20 what did the Bible say... you can have it... 00:22:52.23\00:22:54.67 just remove the... what? the blood and the fat 00:22:54.70\00:22:57.11 and make sure that you grow your own chicken 00:22:57.14\00:22:59.37 that doesn't have all of the estrogen and the hormones 00:22:59.41\00:23:03.28 added to it and stuff like that, and then what you want to do is 00:23:03.31\00:23:05.81 you want to... kill it properly... 00:23:05.85\00:23:06.95 you don't want to fry it... you want to broil it... 00:23:06.98\00:23:08.48 you want to do this and you want to do that... " 00:23:08.52\00:23:09.85 and the people... at the end of the Program... 00:23:09.88\00:23:11.79 they were like... "Man, eating meat is just too 00:23:11.82\00:23:13.72 complicated... how do you make that lentil patty again?" 00:23:13.76\00:23:16.69 but we're assuring people we're going to meet you 00:23:16.73\00:23:19.53 where you're at... and then make that transition 00:23:19.56\00:23:21.70 not everybody can do it... I'm not as strong as Evita... 00:23:21.73\00:23:25.27 you know... to go cold turkey... like when I made the transition 00:23:25.30\00:23:27.27 I went from beef to chicken, to fish, 00:23:27.30\00:23:30.41 to cheese, to milk, 00:23:30.44\00:23:32.37 and then I finally made it... and sometimes I smell the 00:23:32.41\00:23:34.31 other stuff and I'm like "Hmmm... I remember those days" 00:23:34.34\00:23:37.48 but now... I just eat Evita's food and I'm good... 00:23:37.51\00:23:40.08 so, that's one of the things... but, another thing is... 00:23:40.12\00:23:43.22 that even though we work with adults... and stuff 00:23:43.25\00:23:45.52 we realize that... sometimes people don't want 00:23:45.55\00:23:47.82 to make the change... and that's fine... 00:23:47.86\00:23:49.82 we said, "Let's gear our approach now 00:23:49.86\00:23:51.69 and let's start working with children... 00:23:51.73\00:23:53.19 because the children... they're more receptive 00:23:53.23\00:23:55.43 to learning... they're not set in their ways 00:23:55.46\00:23:57.67 and stuff like that... so, we developed one other 00:23:57.70\00:23:59.57 resource that is called, "Kidlicious" 00:23:59.60\00:24:01.80 Oh, I love it... Take this... it is one of our... 00:24:01.84\00:24:04.27 I want you to do a Program on Dare to Dream 00:24:04.31\00:24:06.71 for children... 00:24:06.74\00:24:07.91 I think that's so important, you have to be able to reach 00:24:07.94\00:24:11.91 children and teach them... you know... 00:24:11.95\00:24:15.05 teach them how to eat properly... 00:24:15.08\00:24:16.65 yeah... because... like Evita... 00:24:16.69\00:24:18.75 you do in-home cooking demonstrations, 00:24:18.79\00:24:20.89 consultations... matter-of-fact we were like in Canada 00:24:20.92\00:24:23.73 at the same time... she was working with some 00:24:23.76\00:24:25.69 clients and I was working with some as well... 00:24:25.73\00:24:27.66 and we're spending all of this time 00:24:27.66\00:24:30.77 when we're done with them a whole other generation 00:24:30.80\00:24:33.60 has come up... Hmmm... 00:24:33.64\00:24:35.07 and they're making the same mistakes... 00:24:35.10\00:24:36.67 and so, let's educate them while they're young 00:24:36.71\00:24:39.27 and so that's... that one there... 00:24:39.31\00:24:42.28 I love it... I love it... maybe Evita will come in 00:24:42.31\00:24:45.38 and help you do some raw stuff with kids too... 00:24:45.41\00:24:48.42 There it is... it's a tag team 00:24:48.45\00:24:50.32 as a matter-of-fact, I found out that I was just 00:24:50.35\00:24:52.02 adopted... Oh, really... 00:24:52.05\00:24:54.06 Evita has just adopted me as her younger brother 00:24:54.09\00:24:56.93 I love it... now, she's going to try to 00:24:56.96\00:24:58.39 beat up on me... I'm praying... 00:24:58.43\00:24:59.89 send her letters in and tell her not to... 00:24:59.93\00:25:02.50 That's tremendous... 00:25:02.53\00:25:04.57 you guys are doing 00:25:04.60\00:25:06.57 such a great work for the Lord... 00:25:06.60\00:25:08.24 what do you want our viewers to know in closing... 00:25:08.27\00:25:10.64 we have about 30 seconds a piece 00:25:10.67\00:25:12.47 what do you want our viewers to know... 00:25:12.51\00:25:13.91 That it's easy to eat healthy... it's not hard... 00:25:13.94\00:25:18.75 don't let it be a drudgery... but just use all the bountiful 00:25:18.78\00:25:24.82 fruits and vegetables that the Lord gave you... yes... 00:25:24.85\00:25:28.56 Hmmm... hmmm...
