I get calls and 00:01:24.46\00:01:27.38 and people want... you know... where is the recipe for this and 00:01:27.42\00:01:30.43 and I tell them, "Go to the website, 00:01:30.47\00:01:32.47 go to the website... you can get the recipe" 00:01:32.50\00:01:34.77 so, what is it that you're looking to do when you're doing 00:01:34.81\00:01:39.99 A Taste of Paradise, when you're hosting 00:01:40.02\00:01:42.47 what are you trying to accomplish... 00:01:42.50\00:01:44.88 To make people realize that it is a joy to eat healthy 00:01:44.91\00:01:51.51 Hmmm... and it can be fun 00:01:51.55\00:01:53.46 and it's flavorful... it doesn't have to be bland 00:01:53.49\00:01:56.80 and they could eat some of the similar dishes 00:01:56.84\00:01:59.69 that they're used to but it could be raw... 00:01:59.73\00:02:02.55 and it's remarkable... because you know 00:02:02.58\00:02:05.96 I've done tacos, I've done enchiladas, 00:02:05.99\00:02:09.33 I've done lasagna, 00:02:09.37\00:02:10.59 and all of it has been raw... You're making me hungry... 00:02:10.63\00:02:13.20 I know, it's so good... and a lot of people 00:02:13.24\00:02:18.73 don't realize that you can do raw foods and it tastes good, 00:02:18.76\00:02:23.79 you can make all these different recipes 00:02:23.82\00:02:26.03 with raw food and it really tastes good... 00:02:26.07\00:02:28.24 Exactly... What about you Nyse, 00:02:28.28\00:02:29.81 what are you looking to cook? Well, you know, 00:02:29.85\00:02:30.90 I got to cook it up a little bit... 00:02:30.93\00:02:32.46 Come on... come on... that's how we balance 00:02:32.50\00:02:34.52 each other out... since you kept us separate 00:02:34.55\00:02:36.54 so much... sometimes, if you noticed, 00:02:36.57\00:02:38.84 I had to jump on Evita's show and sometimes 00:02:38.88\00:02:41.07 Evita jumps on mine but it's... the whole purpose is 00:02:41.10\00:02:45.05 just to encourage people to engage in a healthy lifestyle 00:02:45.09\00:02:48.49 and show them that it's cool, it's fun and it's tasty, 00:02:48.52\00:02:51.80 as Evita mentioned here... a lot of times 00:02:51.84\00:02:53.70 when people associate food, and they think of food 00:02:53.73\00:02:56.46 as either... it's an addiction it's bad for you 00:02:56.50\00:02:59.37 or something like that or totally healthy for you 00:02:59.40\00:03:02.21 but it doesn't taste good... and so, what we're trying to do 00:03:02.24\00:03:05.52 is, you know, trying to get rid of that and find a middle ground 00:03:05.55\00:03:08.79 where it tastes good, it doesn't have to be an addiction 00:03:08.83\00:03:11.96 and hey if you have a second piece, you know, 00:03:12.00\00:03:13.81 it's not a problem because it's good for you 00:03:13.84\00:03:15.96 but then also to encourage them and educate them 00:03:16.00\00:03:18.19 on what they're actually eating, a lot of times, 00:03:18.22\00:03:20.38 when we eat food like if you're having a 00:03:20.41\00:03:22.20 hamburger or something you know it tastes good, 00:03:22.23\00:03:24.41 but you're like, "Man, I'm going to hit the gym 00:03:24.44\00:03:26.58 again or something like that but now, 00:03:26.62\00:03:28.72 when you make an "oatburger" or I don't know... 00:03:28.75\00:03:32.31 "unsausage" or I something that we made on the show, 00:03:32.35\00:03:34.50 you can eat it and you're saying "Man, that oat is actually 00:03:34.53\00:03:37.41 good for my brain so, man, it's good for that and... 00:03:37.45\00:03:39.81 and the nuts that are also there is going to help to lower my 00:03:39.85\00:03:43.90 cholesterol... or something of that nature, 00:03:43.93\00:03:45.63 so, now you're enjoying something that tastes good 00:03:45.66\00:03:48.57 but... at the same time, you know, it's good for you... 00:03:48.61\00:03:51.55 so, I don't usually say this... 00:03:51.59\00:03:53.46 I hope you don't get into trouble or get me in trouble... 00:03:53.50\00:03:56.11 I call it, "Eating Ecstasy" a little bit... 00:03:56.14\00:03:58.07 now not the drug or anything like that... 00:03:58.11\00:03:59.90 because you're eating something good... 00:03:59.93\00:04:01.49 Yes... and at the same time you know 00:04:01.52\00:04:03.02 it's good for you, so, it's like you're in a cloud... 00:04:03.06\00:04:05.58 you know what I mean, at the same time and so, 00:04:05.61\00:04:07.96 we want food to be an enjoyable experience 00:04:07.99\00:04:10.27 and also a healthy experience and something that 00:04:10.31\00:04:14.28 people can start sharing with others... 00:04:14.32\00:04:16.23 and that's the whole point for us, I believe here at 00:04:16.26\00:04:18.89 A Taste of Paradise... we don't want you to like 00:04:18.92\00:04:21.51 take this and keep it for yourself, 00:04:21.55\00:04:23.03 but now, take it and share it with other people and so 00:04:23.07\00:04:25.75 it's truly been a blast and so many seasons now 00:04:25.79\00:04:29.84 that we're going so, I'm excited... I'm excited. 00:04:29.87\00:04:33.03 I'm excited too... 00:04:33.07\00:04:34.10 And I had a viewer that called me that was using 00:04:34.13\00:04:36.76 some of my recipes at a gathering 00:04:36.80\00:04:39.37 and she had invited all these people over and she was making 00:04:39.40\00:04:42.57 three of the recipes and she was so excited 00:04:42.60\00:04:44.69 so, it's such a blessing... and she was sharing it with friends 00:04:44.73\00:04:48.69 Isn't that great to share health with friends... 00:04:48.73\00:04:53.29 that's such a blessing, that's such a great thing to do. 00:04:53.33\00:04:56.43 One of the things that I love about what you guys do 00:04:56.47\00:05:01.51 is... you will take items that are familiar like the 00:05:01.54\00:05:06.55 "Mac and Cheese" "Nachos and Cheese" 00:05:06.59\00:05:09.75 I say "Cheese" with a Z and what's good is that 00:05:09.79\00:05:14.41 you're not sacrificing taste, viewers, you have to try 00:05:14.44\00:05:19.44 these recipes... these recipes are phenomenal... 00:05:19.48\00:05:22.94 I mean, I... okay... most people know 00:05:22.97\00:05:25.48 that my son, Mark, is not... like... a big "soy person" 00:05:25.52\00:05:29.41 "tofu person" and I made the Tikin... 00:05:29.44\00:05:33.67 the Tasty Tikin... not chicken but Tasty Tikin 00:05:33.70\00:05:37.24 so you remember that, huh? yeah and so, I said, 00:05:37.28\00:05:40.79 "Why don't you just try a piece?" 00:05:40.83\00:05:42.52 and he said, "No, that's okay" and I said, "No, just try one" 00:05:42.55\00:05:45.86 well, after that... "Are you going to make 00:05:45.89\00:05:48.24 that tofu again?" I'm like, "Okay... " 00:05:48.28\00:05:50.70 and that's what we want... we want to be able to 00:05:50.74\00:05:53.98 take these recipes and use them and have people share them 00:05:54.01\00:05:59.56 with others who don't eat well, and we can help them 00:05:59.60\00:06:03.25 with their health... I mean, it's just great... 00:06:03.28\00:06:06.37 that's ultimately the message 00:06:06.40\00:06:08.43 God has given us something better in our lives... 00:06:08.46\00:06:11.45 all right... the world shows one thing... 00:06:11.49\00:06:13.35 and then He's going to show us, "All right... cool... 00:06:13.38\00:06:14.92 you enjoy that or whatever... 00:06:14.96\00:06:16.03 but watch this... let me... I'm going to still meet your 00:06:16.06\00:06:18.16 desire... so I'm going to give you something good 00:06:18.19\00:06:20.26 that tastes better... it's going to take a little 00:06:20.30\00:06:21.98 effort... now, you know... making some of these recipes 00:06:22.02\00:06:24.36 is not, you know, you can't just put it in the microwave 00:06:24.39\00:06:26.69 or anything... it will take a little effort... 00:06:26.73\00:06:28.16 but when you put in the effort you're going to be fulfilled 00:06:28.19\00:06:30.37 you're going to be fulfilled most important... all right... 00:06:30.40\00:06:32.54 so, you'll be fulfilling your taste buds... 00:06:32.58\00:06:34.47 but at the end of the day you're mind relaxes 00:06:34.51\00:06:36.37 because I did something good, I earned it... I worked for it 00:06:36.41\00:06:39.56 and it was an enjoyable experience 00:06:39.59\00:06:40.94 so, ultimately... He's going to give you something better 00:06:40.97\00:06:44.00 than what you originally wanted... 00:06:44.04\00:06:45.97 and so that's the good news 00:06:46.01\00:06:48.41 because we may eat those chicken nuggets 00:06:48.45\00:06:50.02 and stuff like that... and we're wondering, 00:06:50.05\00:06:51.66 "Man, what went into it... " or whatever... 00:06:51.69\00:06:53.23 "It did taste good, but at the same time, you know, 00:06:53.27\00:06:55.83 is it going to help me... I'm feeling sadly... 00:06:55.86\00:06:58.14 and I'm tired and weak and stuff 00:06:58.18\00:06:59.76 so that's the ultimate goal ultimately... the true paradise 00:06:59.79\00:07:04.05 and having it... where we have all of the 00:07:04.08\00:07:06.42 eating off of the tree of life, and stuff like that... 00:07:06.45\00:07:09.14 Hmmm... We're really being raw... right? 00:07:09.17\00:07:10.58 awww... man... that got me... but we are in a situation where 00:07:10.62\00:07:15.12 and that's funny Evita that sometimes when I travel... 00:07:15.15\00:07:19.04 people are like, "Well, you should go raw too" 00:07:19.08\00:07:20.61 I'm like, "Hello... I go raw, I was just showing you 00:07:20.64\00:07:22.91 one or two recipes that we can cook as well... " 00:07:22.94\00:07:25.17 Well, but ultimately we know at the end of the day 00:07:25.21\00:07:27.93 as well... sometimes God... well, it does show 00:07:27.96\00:07:30.27 that God had actually cursed the ground for our own good... 00:07:30.30\00:07:33.02 you know, after the fall, and the situation there, 00:07:33.06\00:07:35.73 and so, sometimes there are some foods that your body 00:07:35.76\00:07:38.90 can't handle, you know, a person in a debilitated state 00:07:38.93\00:07:42.03 they may need it to be cooked just a little bit there 00:07:42.07\00:07:44.40 so, we're just finding that nice balance there... 00:07:44.43\00:07:46.73 That's the key word... balance... 00:07:46.76\00:07:48.98 I believe in balance... which is why we have 00:07:49.01\00:07:51.31 A Taste of Paradise because the balance 00:07:51.34\00:07:53.64 of the raw and the cooked I think is critical... 00:07:53.67\00:07:56.62 because there are some people who... some people are "purists" 00:07:56.66\00:08:01.92 they're like, "Okay, I'm only going to do raw... " 00:08:01.96\00:08:04.67 or... "I'm only going to do like 95 percent raw... 00:08:04.71\00:08:10.33 and 5 percent cooked... but I believe in the balance... 00:08:10.37\00:08:13.61 and that's what I tell the viewers when they call... 00:08:13.65\00:08:16.63 they say, "Do you advocate a 100 percent raw diet?" 00:08:16.67\00:08:19.28 and I said, "No, you need to have a balance... " 00:08:19.32\00:08:21.89 but I said, "It should be high raw... 00:08:21.93\00:08:24.12 because that's where all the nutrients are... 00:08:24.16\00:08:27.43 and it gives you that spunk and it clears your mind 00:08:27.46\00:08:31.85 it's just a blessing... " And you're skin... okay... 00:08:31.89\00:08:34.09 look at your skin... one of the things that you 00:08:34.13\00:08:37.29 made that... it's just... the crackers... 00:08:37.32\00:08:41.23 Yes... But every time you guys come 00:08:41.27\00:08:42.68 I have to tell you... every time we do 00:08:42.72\00:08:44.06 A Taste of Paradise... right... all of our crew is like... 00:08:44.09\00:08:47.68 so happy... because we get to eat really good stuff 00:08:47.72\00:08:52.07 it's very healthy... but it also really tastes good 00:08:52.10\00:08:55.62 that eggplant jerky... Yes... 00:08:55.66\00:08:59.73 Man! it's some dangerous stuff! Don't worry... I have a secret 00:08:59.76\00:09:06.11 how do I say, "paparazzi photo" 00:09:06.14\00:09:08.79 Come on... of Evita eating something cooked 00:09:08.83\00:09:12.58 I got it... I got it... I'm going to release it... 00:09:12.61\00:09:15.51 just in case... she doesn't behave... 00:09:15.54\00:09:17.52 but, no... no... no... but it's all good... 00:09:17.55\00:09:21.14 definitely you want to increase some of those items... 00:09:21.17\00:09:24.48 and a lot of times... even on my segment, you'll see 00:09:24.51\00:09:27.75 I use some salads or different items of that nature there 00:09:27.78\00:09:30.81 but it's crucial to find out 00:09:30.84\00:09:33.31 find that balance... of course you want to lean 00:09:33.35\00:09:35.51 a little bit more to the fresh foods and stuff, 00:09:35.54\00:09:39.26 but, if you do it right and enjoy it and stuff... 00:09:39.29\00:09:42.97 no matter what, even they show people 00:09:43.01\00:09:44.90 who don't eat the best food but are content 00:09:44.94\00:09:47.57 and they enjoy life and they are satisfied... 00:09:47.60\00:09:50.20 I mean it literally starts in the mind 00:09:50.23\00:09:52.24 most importantly... and they're not in the best 00:09:52.27\00:09:56.26 physical condition... but they're calm 00:09:56.30\00:09:58.29 and the body can handle the stress because a lot of people 00:09:58.33\00:10:00.79 eat super healthy... but they're stressed out all the time... 00:10:00.82\00:10:03.12 Absolutely... and their body is in a worse 00:10:03.16\00:10:05.26 condition sometimes so... they key is... find that balance 00:10:05.30\00:10:07.81 of course, always lean and trust in the Lord 00:10:07.84\00:10:09.91 and that's when the blessings will come... 00:10:09.95\00:10:12.04 and then... just follow the recipes 00:10:12.07\00:10:13.65 watch Evita and myself and... And I think, like you said, 00:10:13.69\00:10:17.35 it's a balance because Nyse and I both have... 00:10:17.39\00:10:20.22 some recipes that are a little complex but we have 00:10:20.25\00:10:22.88 some that are simple and using simple ingredients... 00:10:22.92\00:10:25.48 and there are so many "food deserts" around here... 00:10:25.52\00:10:28.69 that people don't have fresh fruits and vegetables... 00:10:28.73\00:10:31.87 so they can get... whatever they can... 00:10:31.91\00:10:35.57 in their hometown or in the store that's next to their 00:10:35.60\00:10:39.51 Community... and they can work with what they have 00:10:39.54\00:10:42.68 and use some of our ingredients. That's such a good point 00:10:42.72\00:10:45.33 because so many urban areas 00:10:45.36\00:10:48.74 have poor produce 00:10:48.78\00:10:50.11 and I was reading something not too long ago, 00:10:50.15\00:10:53.29 that said that if your store... your local grocery store 00:10:53.32\00:10:58.14 doesn't have good produce... go to the Manager 00:10:58.18\00:11:01.37 and tell him that you need better produce... 00:11:01.41\00:11:04.57 because if you do that, 00:11:04.61\00:11:06.76 then you can get them to move 00:11:06.79\00:11:08.60 and you can get better produce in your neighborhoods 00:11:08.63\00:11:12.31 we have all kinds of candy stores, liquor stores, 00:11:12.34\00:11:15.98 all those things in the Hood so to speak 00:11:16.02\00:11:19.42 but we don't have great stores for produce, so one of the 00:11:19.45\00:11:23.59 things we can do... as people on Dare to Dream... 00:11:23.62\00:11:27.19 is... encourage people to go out... to their stores... 00:11:27.23\00:11:31.24 and say, "Hey, we really need better produce... " 00:11:31.28\00:11:33.70 Yeah, that's the focus... of us trying to work with people 00:11:33.74\00:11:37.08 and where they're at... a lot of times when I go to 00:11:37.12\00:11:39.67 different places... I have actually like our series 00:11:39.71\00:11:43.15 on DVD... as you see... here is A Taste of Paradise 00:11:43.18\00:11:45.91 and people always say, "Yeah, I've seen the Program 00:11:45.94\00:11:48.60 like on those DVDs and stuff, the only problem I have is 00:11:48.64\00:11:53.04 when I hear cooking programs 00:11:53.08\00:11:54.56 they always use these weird ingredients and stuff like that 00:11:54.60\00:11:56.86 and I'm like, "No, you don't have to worry about that... 00:11:56.90\00:11:59.78 Evita... she's using just fresh like how weird can you get 00:11:59.81\00:12:02.66 with fresh items... she's only using that 00:12:02.70\00:12:04.89 and then I'm just using one or two additional items 00:12:04.92\00:12:06.98 that I just add a little heat to it... and so, as a result, 00:12:07.01\00:12:11.02 they're like, "Yeah, great, we want the whole series 00:12:11.05\00:12:12.71 and stuff... here you've seen this already... 00:12:12.74\00:12:15.71 I love it... and so that's actually our focus 00:12:15.74\00:12:18.07 is to use simple things... we were in South Africa 00:12:18.10\00:12:20.97 they're like, "Can we do this, because a lot of their products 00:12:21.00\00:12:23.28 are only found in North America... " 00:12:23.31\00:12:24.53 we're like, "No, you have fruits veggies and nuts and grains... " 00:12:24.56\00:12:27.33 they're saying, "Yeah" "Then you can do this. " 00:12:27.37\00:12:28.71 We're in Australia... 00:12:28.74\00:12:30.31 we're in Asia... everywhere we go... 00:12:30.34\00:12:32.05 people can implement this program... you know, 00:12:32.09\00:12:35.03 with maybe one or two specialty items 00:12:35.06\00:12:37.53 but Evita probably shows different ways 00:12:37.57\00:12:39.96 that they can use something else if they don't have that... 00:12:40.00\00:12:43.29 and I do the same as well... 00:12:43.33\00:12:44.54 so, that's the focus... is to make it very simple 00:12:44.58\00:12:47.57 easy... so that we all can enjoy "A Taste of Paradise... " 00:12:47.61\00:12:50.29 This is the season when we have the collard greens, 00:12:50.32\00:12:53.18 Mac and cheese, Tikin... right... I love it... love it... 00:12:53.21\00:12:57.06 We've been moving up the line on the seasons... and stuff 00:12:57.09\00:13:00.90 so we have quite a bit available now... that a lot of people will 00:13:00.94\00:13:05.14 enjoy so that's the good thing about it... 00:13:05.17\00:13:08.71 That is so awesome... we want people to know 00:13:08.74\00:13:12.21 that these recipes are available and they're easy to do... 00:13:12.24\00:13:16.36 it's not that hard... I mean... really... it's... 00:13:16.40\00:13:20.18 just like you said... a little while ago... 00:13:20.22\00:13:21.58 it takes a little bit more time but it's not really... 00:13:21.61\00:13:24.42 it's not hard to put them together... 00:13:24.45\00:13:26.13 and make... a really good meal and experiment... 00:13:26.17\00:13:28.37 people can experiment... you said, "Eat the rainbow... " 00:13:28.41\00:13:31.74 Exactly... All the different colors, 00:13:31.77\00:13:33.76 you know, your salads are so beautiful... 00:13:33.80\00:13:36.15 and they're tasty... it's just, this is... 00:13:36.18\00:13:39.86 really the way to go, 00:13:39.90\00:13:41.27 One person said, "You eat fast food, you live a fast life" 00:13:41.30\00:13:44.04 you're here today... going tonight... 00:13:44.07\00:13:45.56 literally... you don't have to wait till tomorrow 00:13:45.60\00:13:47.17 people are dying of heart attacks or strokes... 00:13:47.20\00:13:48.74 you hear it all the time... "What! Johnny's dead? 00:13:48.77\00:13:51.01 Bobby's dead?" and you're like, 00:13:51.04\00:13:52.80 "I just saw him... " and people are dropping 00:13:52.84\00:13:54.52 left and right... if you eat fast food... 00:13:54.55\00:13:56.16 but if you take the time and make some slow food, 00:13:56.20\00:13:58.34 you know, it's going to take a little preparation... 00:13:58.38\00:14:00.75 you'll live a longer, greater quality of life... 00:14:00.78\00:14:03.08 and people are like, "Well, I'm going to die anyway" 00:14:03.11\00:14:06.01 yeah, you're right... you want to die fast 00:14:06.05\00:14:07.95 or you want to take your time and enjoy... 00:14:07.98\00:14:09.81 one person said, "Well, it only shows you can improve the 00:14:09.85\00:14:13.22 quality of life by 3 or 4 or 5 years... " 00:14:13.26\00:14:15.16 I'm like, "Yeah, no problem, then just eat whatever you want 00:14:15.20\00:14:17.56 not a lot of things happen in 3 or 5 years... " 00:14:17.59\00:14:19.43 I was like, "What could possibly happen... your grandchildren, 00:14:19.46\00:14:22.72 you know... could come, somebody can meet somebody 00:14:22.75\00:14:24.96 and get married... how long does that take? 00:14:24.99\00:14:26.63 that only takes, who knows, some people meet each other 00:14:26.67\00:14:29.02 in 2 or 3 months and they're already married and stuff... 00:14:29.05\00:14:31.36 so you know, if you cut off 5 years of your life 00:14:31.40\00:14:33.98 then, hey, then you didn't miss much... 00:14:34.02\00:14:35.85 but actually... you are missing a lot... " 00:14:35.89\00:14:37.69 Absolutely... The only thing is that you need 00:14:37.72\00:14:39.72 about 9 months for the baby, or the grandchildren 00:14:39.76\00:14:42.10 or something of that nature... so the key is... 00:14:42.13\00:14:44.44 take your time... make some good food, 00:14:44.48\00:14:46.23 you'll enjoy life now and you'll enjoy it later as well. 00:14:46.27\00:14:49.69 Absolutely... how did you guys get involved with food, you know 00:14:49.73\00:14:54.22 and it's properties and 00:14:54.25\00:14:56.55 how it helps the body 00:14:56.59\00:14:58.82 how did you guys get involved, how did you do it? 00:14:58.86\00:15:02.13 Well, several years ago, I was going to this Church 00:15:02.16\00:15:05.40 and this couple came up and they had just come back 00:15:05.44\00:15:08.63 from Uchee Pines... and I was so inquisitive... 00:15:08.67\00:15:11.79 because I had eczema... I had allergies and they said, 00:15:11.83\00:15:15.37 "I can show you how to get rid of that naturally... " 00:15:15.41\00:15:18.92 I said, "What?" and they brought me to their 00:15:18.96\00:15:21.16 home and started cooking for me, and they said, 00:15:21.19\00:15:24.49 "You can do this too. " So, the next time they went to 00:15:24.52\00:15:27.92 Uchee Pines... I went with them, and it changed my whole life... 00:15:27.95\00:15:30.82 and this was in the early 80s... yeah, this was in the 80s... 00:15:30.85\00:15:34.27 Early 80s? Well, the late 80s... 00:15:34.31\00:15:36.72 You were just a young little girl then... 00:15:36.75\00:15:39.00 No, I was... She was only 10... 00:15:39.04\00:15:44.57 That's awesome... so what you're doing now 00:15:44.60\00:15:49.22 is basically what they did for you... 00:15:49.25\00:15:51.82 Exactly... exactly... Right... 00:15:51.85\00:15:53.55 on a larger scale because you're on television 00:15:53.58\00:15:56.07 Yeah... but they took me in their home and they nurtured me 00:15:56.10\00:16:00.07 and they showed me simple ingredients... 00:16:00.10\00:16:02.65 they made oatburger patties for me... 00:16:02.69\00:16:05.54 all these different things... and I said, 00:16:05.58\00:16:08.36 "I've never seen this before" and I was so convicted 00:16:08.40\00:16:12.94 and I started to feel better just by eating the food 00:16:12.98\00:16:15.45 that they cooked for me in their home... 00:16:15.48\00:16:17.69 and I said, "Okay, I'm gong to do this... " 00:16:17.73\00:16:19.87 and I went cold turkey... yeah, I went cold turkey... 00:16:19.91\00:16:23.29 I stopped eating beef and the chicken and things like that 00:16:23.32\00:16:27.49 and then gradually... I went to a total plant-food diet... 00:16:27.52\00:16:31.65 And that's another thing that I love about 00:16:31.69\00:16:35.00 A Taste of Paradise... because if you are transitioning 00:16:35.03\00:16:38.39 into... you know, some people are like 00:16:38.42\00:16:40.87 what do I do... where do I start... 00:16:40.91\00:16:43.29 this also, lets people know how to start transitioning 00:16:43.32\00:16:47.93 into a healthier lifestyle... because a lot of times 00:16:47.96\00:16:52.50 we say, "Okay... I want to do it but... how... what do I eat 00:16:52.54\00:16:57.26 and how do I make it and can I fry... can I deep fry... " 00:16:57.30\00:17:01.99 you know... you guys just help with that... 00:17:02.03\00:17:06.08 How did you start Nyse? 00:17:06.11\00:17:07.93 I can't put a specific finger on it... like this was the time 00:17:07.96\00:17:11.82 or whatever... I always dreamed of those moments 00:17:11.86\00:17:13.54 that I could have like Evita experience 00:17:13.58\00:17:15.61 for me it was a little different I was more of a knucklehead 00:17:15.65\00:17:21.08 or whatever... like that... I learned slowly but surely 00:17:21.11\00:17:25.04 along the way... just little things... 00:17:25.08\00:17:27.83 I used to play football... and I found when I ate 00:17:27.87\00:17:31.70 a healthier diet, I was like vegetarian 00:17:31.74\00:17:33.89 during football season and I would be able to run faster 00:17:33.92\00:17:36.72 and I'd have more endurance and stuff like that... 00:17:36.76\00:17:39.75 and I was like, "Cool!" so then, after football season 00:17:39.79\00:17:42.38 I ate any and everything that moved... you know... 00:17:42.42\00:17:44.94 I'd just bite into Evita with some hot sauce or something 00:17:44.97\00:17:49.94 but then... one off-season, I waited... 00:17:49.98\00:17:53.63 and I didn't eat any other foods 00:17:53.66\00:17:56.23 and I just kept the diet... healthy... 00:17:56.26\00:17:57.75 and then when I went back to train and practice again 00:17:57.79\00:18:00.13 I was bouncing... you know... which is normally the hardest 00:18:00.16\00:18:03.01 time... when you stop playing and then start again... 00:18:03.04\00:18:04.97 and then my mom... she had breast cancer... 00:18:05.01\00:18:06.51 but by the time they had found it... 00:18:06.54\00:18:07.88 it had spread throughout the body... 00:18:07.91\00:18:09.17 and so, you know, they just went ahead and they just 00:18:09.21\00:18:11.06 cut off that part there... and then the doctor 00:18:11.09\00:18:15.54 who is not an Adventist doctor, he said, 00:18:15.58\00:18:17.09 "Hey, maybe if you go home... " this was back in the days 00:18:17.12\00:18:20.24 when they used to give you time to live... 00:18:20.28\00:18:21.79 he said, "I give you about 2 months to live or whatever... 00:18:21.82\00:18:24.14 because it has already metastasized... " 00:18:24.18\00:18:25.83 and he was like... "Go home and stay away from free radicals" 00:18:25.87\00:18:28.20 and we were like... "What are you talking about?" 00:18:28.23\00:18:29.29 He was like... you know... milk, eggs, cheese, fish... 00:18:29.32\00:18:31.58 any animal products... because these produce 00:18:31.61\00:18:33.73 cancer cells... free radicals" and we were like, 00:18:33.76\00:18:36.25 "What, is this man crazy... " my mom was from Trinidad 00:18:36.29\00:18:39.21 my dad was from Italy... like in our family... 00:18:39.25\00:18:41.66 if anything moved... we threw either... like Italians 00:18:41.69\00:18:43.74 we threw tomato paste on you or something... 00:18:43.77\00:18:46.91 from Trinidad... we throw curry on you... 00:18:46.94\00:18:48.99 so it got so bad in our house one time... 00:18:49.03\00:18:51.04 we made like... curry lasagna... 00:18:51.07\00:18:53.06 you got that... right... Yeah... curry and lasagna... 00:18:53.10\00:18:57.31 I know... you all are probably thinking 00:18:57.34\00:18:58.42 what in the world is that... but it tastes good... 00:18:58.46\00:19:00.70 you should try to make that one sometime... 00:19:00.74\00:19:02.06 but we ate everything... but what happened is... 00:19:02.10\00:19:04.67 mom went home and she prayed... most importantly 00:19:04.71\00:19:07.21 because the healing doesn't come from food... it comes from God 00:19:07.25\00:19:09.22 you know, He just blesses our efforts while we 00:19:09.25\00:19:11.62 when we live that lifestyle... we prayed 00:19:11.66\00:19:14.06 and you know what happened... Mom is alive 00:19:14.09\00:19:16.06 like 20 something years later... Wow! praise God... 00:19:16.10\00:19:19.20 and it was hard... but then... she threw everything out 00:19:19.24\00:19:22.03 the kitchen and... we're like, "What are we going to eat... 00:19:22.07\00:19:24.83 you're sick not us... " and... 00:19:24.87\00:19:25.93 without realizing that you were eating things that made her sick 00:19:26.38\00:19:27.68 But, it was a blessing because mom was like, 00:19:28.03\00:19:30.17 "Do you love me... " and we were like, "Yes... " 00:19:30.20\00:19:31.26 she was like... "then... help me" 00:19:31.29\00:19:32.93 so, what did I start doing 00:19:32.96\00:19:34.30 from a young age? I started to cook 00:19:34.34\00:19:36.85 and roll all this roti and bread... 00:19:36.88\00:19:39.36 and all of these things... 00:19:39.39\00:19:40.55 and I just started to learn to eat healthy food 00:19:40.59\00:19:42.82 from that age... Hmmm... look at God 00:19:42.86\00:19:46.22 and the plan that He had... "The WOW Series... " 00:21:13.29\00:21:14.84 you've heard... "The WOW Series... " 00:21:14.87\00:21:17.18 W O W - it's a week of wellness, 00:21:17.21\00:21:19.45 Week of Wellness is a weekend program or a week program... 00:21:19.49\00:21:23.99 and what we do is... we come in... 00:21:24.02\00:21:25.37 we work with individuals... I'd like you to take a quick look, 00:21:25.41\00:21:29.64 we work with individuals... sometimes we do screenings 00:21:29.68\00:21:32.43 as well... and one gentleman like in New York 00:21:32.47\00:21:35.61 his blood sugars were 444 Wow! 00:21:35.64\00:21:40.31 That's a wow! watch this... and he followed 00:21:40.34\00:21:43.06 the program and in one week when we tested him again, 00:21:43.10\00:21:46.10 because we have doctors and nurses that come and assist us 00:21:46.14\00:21:48.86 when we tested him again, his numbers had dropped down 00:21:48.90\00:21:51.59 to 126... no medication... 00:21:51.62\00:21:54.38 we encouraged him to follow along with doctor's instructions 00:21:54.41\00:21:56.76 let your doctor know what you are doing 00:21:56.79\00:21:58.43 you participated in the WOW Series... 00:21:58.47\00:22:00.03 a week of wellness... and it went from 444 to 126 00:22:00.07\00:22:04.06 in one week... Wow! 00:22:04.10\00:22:07.04 There you go... you got it there it is... 00:22:07.07\00:22:08.94 that's the WOW Series... so, we go to different churches 00:22:08.98\00:22:11.95 we go to businesses... we go to schools... 00:22:11.98\00:22:14.94 we host these programs there... myself... or the different 00:22:14.98\00:22:18.25 consultants on the team, hint... hint... 00:22:18.28\00:22:21.25 and a lot of people enjoy it 00:22:21.28\00:22:24.06 because our focus is not to tell you what to do, 00:22:24.09\00:22:26.11 but to encourage you 00:22:26.15\00:22:27.29 find out where you're at right now 00:22:27.33\00:22:29.21 and help you make the transition you know, 00:22:29.24\00:22:31.13 and work with people a step at a time... 00:22:31.17\00:22:32.88 like I literally got in trouble in one "Church" 00:22:32.92\00:22:34.92 it was like... "Oh, the people here eat meat" 00:22:35.69\00:22:36.95 and I was like, "What's the problem?" 00:22:36.99\00:22:38.29 it was like, "Tell them to be vegan vegetarian... " 00:22:38.32\00:22:39.96 I said, "Where does it say that you have to be vegan vegetarian" 00:22:40.00\00:22:42.29 so, I went to the church and I did a program 00:22:42.32\00:22:44.45 I was like, if you enjoy chicken no problem... 00:22:44.48\00:22:46.57 just do it the way the Lord instructed 00:22:46.61\00:22:48.54 and the pastor was like, "No, Nyse, get down... " 00:22:48.57\00:22:50.88 and I was like... "wait a second... 00:22:50.92\00:22:52.32 what did the Bible say... you can have it... 00:22:52.36\00:22:54.78 just remove the... what? the blood and the fat 00:22:54.82\00:22:57.21 and make sure that you grow your own chicken 00:22:57.24\00:22:59.46 that doesn't have all of the estrogen and the hormones 00:22:59.50\00:23:03.37 added to it and stuff like that, and then what you want to do is 00:23:03.41\00:23:05.91 you want to... kill it properly... 00:23:05.94\00:23:07.07 you don't want to fry it... you want to broil it... 00:23:07.11\00:23:08.57 you want to do this and you want to do that... " 00:23:08.61\00:23:09.95 and the people... at the end of the Program... 00:23:09.98\00:23:11.86 they were like... "Man, eating meat is just too 00:23:11.90\00:23:13.80 complicated... how do you make that lentil patty again?" 00:23:13.84\00:23:16.77 but we're assuring people we're going to meet you 00:23:16.80\00:23:19.63 where you're at... and then make that transition 00:23:19.66\00:23:21.80 not everybody can do it... I'm not as strong as Evita... 00:23:21.84\00:23:25.36 you know... to go cold turkey... like when I made the transition 00:23:25.40\00:23:27.39 I went from beef to chicken, to fish, 00:23:27.43\00:23:30.52 to cheese, to milk, 00:23:30.55\00:23:32.48 and then I finally made it... and sometimes I smell the 00:23:32.51\00:23:34.41 other stuff and I'm like "Hmmm... I remember those days" 00:23:34.44\00:23:37.56 but now... I just eat Evita's food and I'm good... 00:23:37.60\00:23:40.19 so, that's one of the things... but, another thing is... 00:23:40.22\00:23:43.30 that even though we work with adults... and stuff 00:23:43.34\00:23:45.62 we realize that... sometimes people don't want 00:23:45.65\00:23:47.90 to make the change... and that's fine... 00:23:47.94\00:23:49.92 we said, "Let's gear our approach now 00:23:49.95\00:23:51.77 and let's start working with children... 00:23:51.80\00:23:53.28 because the children... they're more receptive 00:23:53.31\00:23:55.55 to learning... they're not set in their ways 00:23:55.59\00:23:57.79 and stuff like that... so, we developed one other 00:23:57.82\00:23:59.67 resource that is called, "Kidlicious" 00:23:59.71\00:24:01.91 Oh, I love it... Take this... it is one of our... 00:24:01.94\00:24:04.40 I want you to do a Program on Dare to Dream 00:24:04.43\00:24:06.80 for children... 00:24:06.84\00:24:07.93 I think that's so important, you have to be able to reach 00:24:07.97\00:24:12.03 children and teach them... you know... 00:24:12.06\00:24:15.14 teach them how to eat properly... 00:24:15.17\00:24:16.74 yeah... because... like Evita... 00:24:16.78\00:24:18.83 you do in-home cooking demonstrations, 00:24:18.87\00:24:20.98 consultations... matter-of-fact we were like in Canada 00:24:21.01\00:24:23.82 at the same time... she was working with some 00:24:23.85\00:24:25.80 clients and I was working with some as well... 00:24:25.83\00:24:27.74 and we're spending all of this time 00:24:27.77\00:24:30.88 when we're done with them a whole other generation 00:24:30.91\00:24:33.71 has come up... Hmmm... 00:24:33.75\00:24:35.19 and they're making the same mistakes... 00:24:35.23\00:24:36.77 and so, let's educate them while they're young 00:24:36.81\00:24:39.37 and so that's... that one there... 00:24:39.41\00:24:42.38 I love it... I love it... maybe Evita will come in 00:24:42.42\00:24:45.46 and help you do some raw stuff with kids too... 00:24:45.50\00:24:48.51 There it is... it's a tag team 00:24:48.55\00:24:50.43 as a matter-of-fact, I found out that I was just 00:24:50.46\00:24:52.10 adopted... Oh, really... 00:24:52.14\00:24:54.15 Evita has just adopted me as her younger brother 00:24:54.19\00:24:57.02 I love it... now, she's going to try to 00:24:57.05\00:24:58.50 beat up on me... I'm praying... 00:24:58.53\00:24:59.99 send her letters in and tell her not to... 00:25:00.03\00:25:02.63 That's tremendous... 00:25:02.66\00:25:04.68 you guys are doing 00:25:04.71\00:25:06.66 such a great work for the Lord... 00:25:06.70\00:25:08.33 what do you want our viewers to know in closing... 00:25:08.37\00:25:10.76 we have about 30 seconds a piece 00:25:10.79\00:25:12.56 what do you want our viewers to know... 00:25:12.60\00:25:14.03 That it's easy to eat healthy... it's not hard... 00:25:14.06\00:25:18.84 don't let it be a drudgery... but just use all the bountiful 00:25:18.88\00:25:24.92 fruits and vegetables that the Lord gave you... yes... 00:25:24.95\00:25:28.66 Hmmm... hmmm...
