I mean... we just completed it 00:04:06.53\00:04:09.83 a couple of months ago, and we had 300 kids show up 00:04:09.87\00:04:13.13 to attend the Programs every week... 00:04:13.17\00:04:15.06 Wow! so you imagine... 00:04:15.10\00:04:16.89 we're reaching, probably, ten times as many individuals 00:04:16.93\00:04:19.99 during those weeks... 00:04:20.02\00:04:22.24 You know what's so great about this... 00:04:22.28\00:04:24.37 this is what Jesus did... Hmmm... hmmm... 00:04:38.90\00:04:40.18 and teaching them and feeding them... and 00:04:40.22\00:04:43.35 this is incredible... this is a wonderful work 00:04:43.38\00:04:46.12 so, what kinds of programs do... when the kids come... 00:04:46.16\00:04:49.55 let's say I'm "little Johnny" or "little Sally" 00:04:49.59\00:04:52.47 what are they going to see when they come to 00:04:52.51\00:04:55.36 one of the Programs? 00:04:55.39\00:04:56.88 Well, when they come to 00:04:56.92\00:04:57.96 our Kids Zone... Right... 00:04:57.99\00:04:59.36 what will happen is... they see this orange bus 00:04:59.39\00:05:00.96 come into the Community... 00:05:01.00\00:05:02.18 Ah... it's like the Ice cream man... 00:05:02.22\00:05:04.26 It's like the Ice cream man... there's no music yet... 00:05:04.29\00:05:06.22 we're working on the music... 00:05:06.26\00:05:07.38 but they see this orange truck come into the Community... 00:05:07.41\00:05:10.16 so they already know that something's going on... 00:05:10.19\00:05:11.98 there are kids painted on the side of the bus 00:05:12.01\00:05:13.77 and things like that... so when they come... 00:05:13.80\00:05:15.36 and we have games first... we start off with the games... 00:05:15.39\00:05:17.76 get them active... get them ready to go... 00:05:17.79\00:05:19.96 and then there's Quiet Time... we go over the rules 00:05:20.00\00:05:22.45 and we say, "This is what's expected of us and of you... " 00:05:22.49\00:05:25.26 and then... after that... we go into a story... 00:05:25.30\00:05:28.20 and during that story... it takes common things 00:05:28.24\00:05:31.11 and it interjects Jesus into the story... 00:05:31.14\00:05:34.83 Oh... like what... like what... give us an example... 00:05:34.87\00:05:37.52 Okay, so one example... there was this cat... 00:05:37.55\00:05:40.29 by the name of Johnny... 00:05:40.32\00:05:42.20 and Johnny decided to leave the church... 00:05:42.23\00:05:45.40 he became an alley cat... well, the pastor from the church 00:05:45.44\00:05:49.10 reached out to him... reached out to him... 00:05:49.13\00:05:50.35 but Johnny wanted to be like the other cats in the alley... 00:05:50.38\00:05:54.11 he wanted to be an "alley cat" 00:05:54.15\00:05:55.81 so, the pastor continued to try, continued to try... 00:05:55.84\00:05:59.71 continued to try... and at the end... 00:05:59.74\00:06:03.15 the pastor was able to show Johnny that 00:06:03.19\00:06:06.66 that he continued to apologize, 00:06:06.70\00:06:08.19 he continued to apologize, saying that he was sorry... 00:06:08.22\00:06:10.32 saying that he wanted to come back... 00:06:10.35\00:06:11.45 but when the environment changed... 00:06:11.48\00:06:12.95 let's say if it was snowing outside 00:06:12.99\00:06:14.35 he wanted to go back... but if it was nice and sunny... 00:06:14.38\00:06:17.14 he wanted to stay there... Hmmm... 00:06:17.17\00:06:18.59 he continued to say "sorry" and what the message is... 00:06:18.62\00:06:20.86 is that... that's how we do Jesus 00:06:20.89\00:06:22.55 when things are the way that we would like for them to be... 00:06:22.59\00:06:26.86 and having fun... Oh, come on now... 00:06:26.90\00:06:28.49 we don't want to go or be involved with it... 00:06:28.53\00:06:31.13 but when things are bad... then we say, "we're sorry" 00:06:31.16\00:06:33.83 the beautiful thing that we communicate to the children 00:06:33.86\00:06:36.34 is that Jesus forgives us... 00:06:36.38\00:06:38.08 if we really, really mean what we say... 00:06:38.12\00:06:39.89 Yes... and we're humble... 00:06:39.92\00:06:41.14 and we're submitting and we say... 00:06:41.17\00:06:43.23 we apologize... that Jesus forgives us 00:06:43.27\00:06:45.29 Yes... and what that gives them 00:06:45.33\00:06:46.57 is that even though they messed up in the past... 00:06:46.60\00:06:48.91 that we serve a God who is willing to forgive our mistakes 00:06:48.94\00:06:52.61 and give us a second chance... 00:06:52.65\00:06:53.93 Oh, that's wonderful... to take lessons in life 00:06:53.97\00:06:58.57 and apply Jesus to them... and show children how 00:06:58.60\00:07:03.17 Jesus is relevant... Yes... 00:07:03.20\00:07:05.12 You know, this is not some age-old deal 00:07:05.16\00:07:08.15 that's irrelevant... Jesus is relevant to their 00:07:08.18\00:07:11.24 everyday lives... and you show that 00:07:11.27\00:07:12.83 someone loves them Yes... that's right... 00:07:12.86\00:07:14.49 and cares about them... that is just so wonderful... 00:07:14.53\00:07:17.50 so you got the Kids Zone... Hmmm... hmmm... 00:07:17.54\00:07:19.69 you've got... what's the other program that you were saying? 00:07:19.72\00:07:21.91 The other component is the Harbor of Hope Church 00:07:21.94\00:07:24.23 which is the regular worship service 00:07:24.26\00:07:25.74 and then we have SOTC which is the mentoring... 00:07:25.78\00:07:28.61 for the kids... Oh... 00:07:28.65\00:07:30.27 then we have the outreach for the parents... 00:07:30.30\00:07:32.11 Let's talk about the mentoring, Yes... 00:07:32.15\00:07:33.78 So what happens there? 00:07:33.81\00:07:34.95 At SOTC, we... because most of the kids worship 00:07:34.99\00:07:39.07 with us on Sabbath... what happens is... 00:07:39.11\00:07:41.38 then we... on Sunday... we gather, 00:07:41.42\00:07:43.58 and we have them bring their homework... 00:07:43.62\00:07:45.88 we have them talk about certain things 00:07:45.91\00:07:48.10 so there is a mentor-mentee relationship... 00:07:48.13\00:07:50.45 someone that you can confide in 00:07:50.48\00:07:52.33 someone who's going to encourage you 00:07:52.36\00:07:53.82 to be the best that you can be... 00:07:53.85\00:07:55.24 someone who believes in you... someone who wants to 00:07:55.28\00:07:58.85 challenge you and dare you to dream... 00:07:58.89\00:08:00.51 Oh, come on... come on... I love it... I love it... 00:08:00.55\00:08:03.27 so you have that environment... and what it does is that 00:08:03.31\00:08:05.19 it allows kids to believe... and start to see that 00:08:05.23\00:08:08.23 success is possible... Yes... 00:08:08.26\00:08:10.49 despite the fact that they are growing up 00:08:10.53\00:08:12.02 in a bad environment... Yes... 00:08:12.05\00:08:13.60 Oh, this is so... this is so... right up Dare to Dream's alley 00:08:13.64\00:08:17.94 you know what I really want to do is... 00:08:17.98\00:08:20.20 is have you on Urban Report... 00:08:20.24\00:08:24.52 when we can do like a longer program... 00:08:24.55\00:08:27.60 because, to me, this today... is just kind of 00:08:27.64\00:08:32.27 wetting our Viewers' appetites but I really would like to 00:08:32.31\00:08:35.63 talk to you... because what you're telling me 00:08:35.66\00:08:37.94 is so critical... it's so critical... 00:08:37.97\00:08:41.11 to the healthy development of the child... 00:08:41.14\00:08:44.36 that mentoring... and then inserting yourself 00:08:44.39\00:08:47.57 into their needs... Yes... 00:08:47.61\00:08:49.36 they need homework assistance, they need to know that 00:08:49.40\00:08:52.49 God's got a plan... that is incredible... 00:08:52.52\00:08:54.80 what is your vision for Harbor of Hope... 00:08:54.84\00:08:56.96 where do you see it going? 00:08:57.00\00:08:58.94 The vision is to have a group of kids... 00:08:58.97\00:09:03.69 that start to apply themselves, and not only apply themselves 00:09:03.73\00:09:08.13 but encourage other kids in the neighborhood 00:09:08.16\00:09:10.22 to apply themselves... that's the first vision... 00:09:10.25\00:09:12.51 a component of that... is also allowing for the children 00:09:12.55\00:09:16.62 and the impact that is being made in their lives 00:09:16.65\00:09:19.34 to then go home and to impact their parents... 00:09:19.37\00:09:21.91 because... we believe that if the children come 00:09:21.95\00:09:24.46 and they are interacting with us 00:09:24.49\00:09:26.02 they are being Discipled with us... 00:09:26.05\00:09:27.51 but then they go back home into that environment... 00:09:27.54\00:09:30.19 where individuals don't encourage them... 00:09:30.23\00:09:32.32 don't believe in them... don't give them the things 00:09:32.35\00:09:35.29 that they need... then, there's kind of something 00:09:35.32\00:09:37.25 missing... so, we also reach out 00:09:37.28\00:09:38.58 to their parents... and make it a "family environment" 00:09:38.61\00:09:41.79 Yes... where everyone 00:09:41.82\00:09:43.23 comes to know Jesus... and that at least one... 00:09:43.26\00:09:46.21 if only one... someone is saved... 00:09:46.24\00:09:48.37 That is so... that's beautiful... 00:09:48.40\00:09:50.50 and that's... again... again... this is not a situation 00:09:50.53\00:09:54.64 where it's just like... 00:09:54.68\00:09:56.61 "Okay, we're just going to give the kids something to eat" 00:09:56.64\00:10:00.22 or...
