I mean... that is just... 00:02:48.34\00:02:50.98 it's such an important... important factor... 00:02:51.02\00:02:53.54 that we can use natural things to induce health... 00:02:53.58\00:02:57.82 what do you feel 00:02:57.85\00:02:59.53 is the most important thing 00:02:59.57\00:03:01.54 that the Drug Companies won't tell us... 00:03:01.57\00:03:03.83 Well, first of all... yeah, I want to echo your point 00:03:03.87\00:03:07.04 we've all had our lives touched in nearly miraculous ways 00:03:07.08\00:03:10.21 by advances in Medicine... 00:03:10.25\00:03:11.70 I don't want to throw the baby out... with the wash... 00:03:11.74\00:03:14.45 what I'm really speaking against is the irrational use of drugs 00:03:14.48\00:03:19.20 and the use of drugs first instead of utilizing the safer 00:03:19.23\00:03:23.92 and in many cases... 00:03:23.95\00:03:25.23 more effective natural approaches... 00:03:25.26\00:03:27.14 to answer your specific question the number one thing 00:03:27.18\00:03:29.78 that Drug Companies don't want us to realize is that 00:03:29.82\00:03:33.39 in dwelling within each of us is the tremendous capacity 00:03:33.42\00:03:36.87 to heal and to be healthy 00:03:36.91\00:03:38.70 and if we give our body 00:03:38.73\00:03:40.45 and our minds... the right sort of support... 00:03:40.49\00:03:43.27 we can achieve... tremendous health benefits... 00:03:43.30\00:03:46.02 Absolutely... 00:03:46.05\00:03:47.44 we believe that the way the body was created 00:03:47.48\00:03:51.14 it was created to heal itself... so when you cut yourself... 00:03:51.17\00:03:54.61 you immediately go into "healing mode" 00:03:54.65\00:03:56.78 the body goes into healing mode because it was created to do 00:03:56.82\00:04:00.96 just that... so, that's what natural medicine 00:04:01.00\00:04:03.91 is really about... and I like in your book... 00:04:03.95\00:04:07.17 the way you talk about... rational medicine... 00:04:07.21\00:04:10.40 explain that for us... if you would... 00:04:10.43\00:04:12.61 the rational approach to medicine... 00:04:12.65\00:04:14.76 Well, some of the drugs are completely irrational... 00:04:14.79\00:04:18.63 for example... if we look at the drugs 00:04:18.67\00:04:20.90 that are used in the treatment of osteoarthritis... 00:04:20.93\00:04:23.55 the major form of arthritis in America... 00:04:23.58\00:04:26.21 this condition is characterized by a wearing down 00:04:26.25\00:04:29.73 of the cartilage... and as we age... 00:04:29.76\00:04:32.69 many of us lose the ability to manufacture 00:04:32.72\00:04:34.94 sufficient levels of of cartilage components... 00:04:34.98\00:04:37.45 the drugs reduce the activity of enzymes that produce painful 00:04:37.49\00:04:43.71 and inflammatory compounds... what people don't realize 00:04:43.75\00:04:47.21 is that these same drugs also impair 00:04:47.24\00:04:49.95 the body's ability to manufacture 00:04:49.98\00:04:52.61 cartilage components so, use of these drugs is a 00:04:52.65\00:04:56.45 classic example of suppressing the symptoms 00:04:56.48\00:04:58.83 but actually promoting the progression of 00:04:58.86\00:05:01.14 the disease process... so, it's totally irrational 00:05:01.18\00:05:04.51 to use those drugs... instead, we should be utilizing 00:05:04.55\00:05:07.85 techniques and therapies that are designed 00:05:07.88\00:05:10.81 to give the body the necessary building blocks 00:05:10.85\00:05:13.75 to build... strong healthy cartilage... 00:05:13.78\00:05:16.18 that's what makes sense and the more we learn about 00:05:16.22\00:05:19.55 ourselves... the more we learn about nature... 00:05:19.59\00:05:22.16 the more we learn about our physiology and nutrition... 00:05:22.19\00:05:25.53 the more we realize how many things work... 00:05:25.57\00:05:29.07 that have been provided for us 00:05:29.10\00:05:31.10 to achieve health and maintain our health. 00:05:31.14\00:05:35.17 See, oh, see... this is just so... 00:05:35.21\00:05:38.24 you're just singing my song here... 00:05:38.28\00:05:41.25 because... if we give... again... if we provide the body 00:05:41.28\00:05:46.25 with the building blocks that it needs... 00:05:46.29\00:05:48.31 it's equipped to heal itself... 00:05:48.34\00:05:51.09 and that... that... 00:05:51.13\00:05:52.80 the whole idea of these drugs actually changing 00:05:52.84\00:05:57.34 various pathways and cutting off different things... 00:05:57.37\00:06:01.47 it's just... they're not often working with the body... 00:06:01.51\00:06:05.51 they work against the body... and that's one of the issues 00:06:05.55\00:06:09.52 that I have... 00:06:09.55\00:06:11.53 with a lot of the drug use that's going on... 00:06:11.56\00:06:13.63 what are some of the drugs 00:06:13.66\00:06:17.34 that are again... 00:06:17.38\00:06:20.64 working... some other examples of drugs... 00:06:20.67\00:06:23.52 working against the body... 00:06:23.55\00:06:25.01 in healing? 00:06:25.05\00:06:26.23 Well, the way we are trying to 00:06:26.26\00:06:30.03 address this epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes 00:06:30.07\00:06:32.88 is really kind of silly... 00:06:32.91\00:06:34.90 most often... when someone is diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, 00:06:34.93\00:06:39.32 they are immediately placed on these oral hypoglycemic drugs 00:06:39.35\00:06:43.74 now, they may need that drug for a short term... 00:06:43.77\00:06:47.21 to act as a crutch until the lifestyle and dietary measures 00:06:47.25\00:06:51.75 kick in... but most of the time... 00:06:51.79\00:06:53.22 they're not given proper advice on diet, lifestyle 00:06:53.26\00:06:57.01 and proper supplementations... so they end up becoming 00:06:57.04\00:07:00.76 over reliant on these drugs 00:07:00.80\00:07:02.83 and what we know about 00:07:02.87\00:07:04.26 these drugs that are used to lower blood-sugar levels 00:07:04.29\00:07:07.13 in Type 2 Diabetes is that they don't alter the progression 00:07:07.16\00:07:11.08 of the disease... and eventually 00:07:11.11\00:07:12.31 they stop working 00:07:12.34\00:07:13.43 so the doctor has to prescribe them... either in higher dosages 00:07:13.47\00:07:17.19 or in combination with other drugs... 00:07:17.23\00:07:19.90 and when that happens... it actually increases mortality 00:07:19.94\00:07:23.62 the reason why we want to treat Type 2 Diabetes 00:07:23.66\00:07:26.43 is that... it carries with it an increased risk 00:07:26.46\00:07:28.93 of having a heart attack... having a stroke... 00:07:28.96\00:07:31.36 or developing cancer... though when we look at the data, 00:07:31.39\00:07:34.84 when we rely on those drugs, they actually end up 00:07:34.87\00:07:38.55 putting people into the grave sooner... 00:07:38.59\00:07:41.00 so, the reason is... because we're not addressing 00:07:41.04\00:07:44.38 the underlying cause... good medicine is always about 00:07:44.42\00:07:47.73 addressing that underlying factor... 00:07:47.76\00:07:50.17 and we can't ignore... the power of our mind 00:07:50.20\00:07:53.55 the power of our beliefs... the power of our diet... 00:07:53.59\00:07:58.26 and the power of our lifestyle in influencing our health... 00:07:58.29\00:08:01.15 and that's what I'm against ignoring 00:08:01.18\00:08:04.54 and that's what conventional medicine does... 00:08:04.57\00:08:06.60 it doesn't pay enough attention to... 00:08:06.63\00:08:07.90 there's no profit in it for the drug companies... 00:08:07.94\00:08:10.84 if everybody was healthy, they'd be out of business... 00:08:10.88\00:08:15.47 Well, that is so true... you know... I've noticed... 00:08:15.50\00:08:17.40 when I go to some dinners and things 00:08:17.44\00:08:20.26 and I see people that I know have Type 2 Diabetes and 00:08:20.29\00:08:24.76 they'll eat anything they want to eat... 00:08:24.79\00:08:26.75 and then they'll think that if they pop a pill... 00:08:26.78\00:08:30.04 that that's going to change the situation... 00:08:30.07\00:08:32.85 and what you're saying... Dr. Murray is so true 00:08:32.89\00:08:35.63 that if we can get to the cause... 00:08:35.67\00:08:37.74 of the issue... meaning lifestyle changes 00:08:37.77\00:08:41.30 and that kind of thing... we make poor lifestyle choices 00:08:41.33\00:08:44.86 and then think that a pill... that there's a magic pill for it 00:08:44.89\00:08:48.59 that a pill is going to actually change the situation... 00:08:48.63\00:08:51.64 it might kind of ameliorate the symptoms... 00:08:51.67\00:08:55.77 but it is not going to address the root cause... 00:08:55.80\00:08:58.36 and that's one of the things that Naturopathic Medicine does 00:08:58.39\00:09:01.92 it identifies the root cause... 00:09:01.96\00:09:04.27 of the condition... and then... you attempt to 00:09:04.30\00:09:08.01 to make changes... what would you say... 00:09:08.04\00:09:11.14 if you're looking at... at the situation as a whole... 00:09:11.18\00:09:17.38 with the interaction between the Drug Companies 00:09:17.41\00:09:20.88 and the doctors... how would you describe that 00:09:20.92\00:09:24.07 that whole relationship... that inter-dependence? 00:09:24.10\00:09:28.55 We have a faulty system... 00:09:28.58\00:09:30.81 we have a situation where 00:09:30.84\00:09:33.00 the Drug Companies are spending most of their money on 00:09:33.03\00:09:35.93 they call it... 00:09:35.96\00:09:38.02 "Continuing Medical Education" 00:09:38.05\00:09:40.01 it's basically trying to sell their drugs 00:09:40.05\00:09:42.33 to physicians... and they also, advertise now on TV... 00:09:42.37\00:09:47.09 on the Radio... and in Print... whereas prior to 1997 00:09:47.13\00:09:51.82 that was illegal... Direct-to-Consumer Advertising 00:09:51.85\00:09:55.29 is a big problem... if I was Health Czar for a day 00:09:55.32\00:09:58.18 that's one of the first things that I would do 00:09:58.22\00:10:01.26 is to eliminate Direct-to-Consumer Advertising 00:10:01.30\00:10:04.31 the second thing I would do is 00:10:04.34\00:10:06.35 I would make research transparent 00:10:06.39\00:10:08.33 it's a sad fact that the majority of research on drugs 00:10:08.36\00:10:11.90 in the United States is conducted by 00:10:11.94\00:10:13.34 clinical research organizations 00:10:13.38\00:10:14.97 these are companies... that the drug companies 00:10:15.00\00:10:16.85 actually pay to do the research... 00:10:16.89\00:10:19.13 since the Drug Companies paid for the research, 00:10:19.16\00:10:21.80 they own it... so, then they're free to 00:10:21.84\00:10:24.44 manipulate the information, they are free to cover it up, 00:10:24.47\00:10:28.22 they own that information and they have complete rights to 00:10:28.26\00:10:31.98 dispense it any way they want... 00:10:32.01\00:10:33.59 so, a lot of times... what's happening is that 00:10:33.63\00:10:37.21 after the fact... we find out because... 00:10:37.24\00:10:39.57 these drugs are causing problems... 00:10:39.61\00:10:42.42 that the Drug Companies knew from the very get-go 00:10:42.46\00:10:45.28 that there were problems with their drugs 00:10:45.31\00:10:47.15 a case in point are the drugs like Celebrex, Vioxx and Bextra 00:10:47.18\00:10:52.63 that were developed for osteoarthritis... 00:10:52.67\00:10:55.00 these drugs killed more Americans 00:10:55.03\00:10:57.59 than we lost in the Vietnam War, these drugs killed 00:10:57.62\00:11:00.91 over 60,000 Americans, initial research just look 00:11:00.95\00:11:04.21 fabulous... but who did that research? 00:11:04.24\00:11:05.99 Well the drug companies did that research... 00:11:06.02\00:11:07.74 and they knew from the very beginning 00:11:07.78\00:11:10.50 that there were problems with these drugs 00:11:10.53\00:11:13.22 on the heart... in, I mentioned the 00:11:13.26\00:11:16.80 Type 2 Diabetes medications... Avandia... 00:11:16.84\00:11:19.96 Avandia was a drug that came to market with much value 00:11:20.00\00:11:23.85 again the initial research just looked fabulous... 00:11:23.89\00:11:26.62 but who did that research? The Drug Companies... 00:11:26.66\00:11:29.01 Who paid for that research? The Drug Companies... 00:11:29.05\00:11:31.36 Was it complete? No... 00:11:31.40\00:11:32.62 When they started doing independent studies 00:11:32.66\00:11:34.65 where they would take people with Type 2 Diabetes... 00:11:34.68\00:11:37.30 divide them into two groups give one group a placebo 00:11:37.34\00:11:39.92 and the other group... the Avandia... 00:11:39.96\00:11:42.37 the group taking the Avandia had a 64% increase 00:11:42.41\00:11:46.16 in fatal heart attacks... the U.S. Senate did a report... 00:11:46.19\00:11:49.96 they estimated that 83,000 heart attacks were caused by 00:11:49.99\00:11:53.72 these Type 2 Diabetes medication 00:11:53.76\00:11:56.82 now we have data showing that sleeping pills 00:11:56.85\00:12:00.16 are one of the biggest contributors 00:12:00.19\00:12:02.54 to premature death in America... 00:12:02.57\00:12:04.85 10 percent of our population regularly take these 00:12:04.89\00:12:07.43 Benzodiazepine and other types of sedative hypnotic drugs 00:12:07.47\00:12:12.06 and studies all around the globe there have been now... 00:12:12.09\00:12:16.64 19 very detailed studies that have evaluated 00:12:16.68\00:12:20.17 the link between taking these sleeping pills 00:12:20.20\00:12:23.65 and them... causing an early death... 00:12:23.69\00:12:26.90 My! the latest... 00:12:26.93\00:12:28.99 it's just unbelievable! 00:12:29.03\00:12:30.15 My! so, we know that insomnia is a huge problem 00:12:30.18\00:12:35.53 it's a huge problem... 00:12:35.57\00:12:36.97 well, I have a couple of questions about it... 00:12:37.01\00:12:39.80 because you've raised a couple of questions... 00:12:39.84\00:12:41.31 so, first of all with insomnia... 00:12:41.34\00:12:45.06 what would be... a naturopathic approach to helping someone 00:12:45.10\00:12:48.93 get better sleep? 00:12:48.96\00:12:50.75 Yeah, well, I just recently moved to Arizona... 00:12:50.78\00:12:54.51 prior to that I was in the Seattle area... 00:12:54.55\00:12:56.35 and in the Northwest for many years 00:12:56.39\00:12:58.11 in Seattle... I cured many people of their 00:12:58.14\00:13:02.09 incurable insomnia... just by having them 00:13:02.13\00:13:06.06 cut down on their caffeine intake... 00:13:06.10\00:13:08.98 Hmmm... hmmm... People are very sensitive 00:13:09.01\00:13:11.66 to caffeine... there are two types of insomnia 00:13:11.70\00:13:15.25 there's "sleep on-set insomnia" where people have a hard time 00:13:15.28\00:13:18.39 calming down and getting to sleep... 00:13:18.43\00:13:20.72 but the more common form of insomnia is called... 00:13:20.75\00:13:24.03 "Sleep Maintenance Insomnia" this is the form 00:13:24.07\00:13:27.32 where people are able to get to sleep... 00:13:27.35\00:13:30.03 but they wake up... 3, 4, 5, or more hours 00:13:30.07\00:13:32.67 after going to bed... and can't get back to sleep 00:13:32.71\00:13:35.93 well, we've been monitoring people's blood-sugar levels 00:13:35.97\00:13:40.02 continuously... using some new technology 00:13:40.06\00:13:42.71 and what we found is that when people are on... 00:13:42.75\00:13:45.41 what we call the blood-sugar roller coaster 00:13:45.44\00:13:48.03 and their blood-sugar levels were going up and down... 00:13:48.06\00:13:50.20 up and down... during the day... 00:13:50.24\00:13:51.78 they also experienced that at night as well... 00:13:51.82\00:13:54.71 so, any time there's a rapid drop 00:13:54.75\00:13:57.40 in our blood-sugar levels... there is a release of adrenalin 00:13:57.43\00:14:01.15 and cortisol... that wakes us up... 00:14:01.19\00:14:03.47 Ash... ah ha... and it's hard to get back 00:14:03.50\00:14:05.65 to sleep... so, for many people 00:14:05.69\00:14:08.36 the best approach to getting a better night's sleep 00:14:08.39\00:14:11.58 is to focus on their diet, and proper supplementation 00:14:11.61\00:14:14.77 to control their blood-sugar levels... 00:14:14.80\00:14:16.57 if they stabilize their blood-sugar levels 00:14:16.61\00:14:18.64 throughout the day... it will help stabilize 00:14:18.68\00:14:20.70 blood-sugar levels throughout the night... 00:14:20.74\00:14:22.94 and they'll be able to sleep continuously... 00:14:22.98\00:14:25.11 My! so... see this is so deep... who would have connected 00:14:25.14\00:14:28.92 blood-sugar levels with insomnia 00:14:28.95\00:14:31.90 I mean, like the average person is not going to think... 00:14:31.94\00:14:34.83 "Well my blood-sugar levels are up and down... 00:14:34.87\00:14:37.05 and so I can't sleep at night... " 00:14:37.09\00:14:38.24 who would have done that? 00:14:38.28\00:14:39.70 And yet... that is... that is the link... 00:14:39.74\00:14:42.73 that is a link... blood-sugar levels... 00:14:42.77\00:14:45.81 Yeah... so, for taking a 00:14:45.84\00:14:48.02 bio-chemical Band Aid... 00:14:48.06\00:14:50.17 to try to help us sleep through the night... 00:14:50.21\00:14:52.86 and that drug... 00:14:52.90\00:14:54.14 doesn't address the underlying cause 00:14:54.17\00:14:56.30 and in this case... if someone had a blood-sugar issue 00:14:56.34\00:14:58.29 and they took a sleeping pill, 00:14:58.32\00:15:00.41 a sleeping pill is not going to to impact that at all... 00:15:00.45\00:15:02.64 it's going to help put them out... 00:15:02.68\00:15:04.24 but you know what happens when you take that sleeping pill 00:15:04.27\00:15:07.40 it actually ends up disrupting normal sleep processes... 00:15:07.44\00:15:10.54 now, sleep is still largely a mystery 00:15:10.57\00:15:12.73 but I think everyone would agree that we need sleep 00:15:12.76\00:15:15.06 and that sleep is responsible for recharging us 00:15:15.10\00:15:18.79 for healing us, for regeneration... 00:15:18.82\00:15:21.80 it's very critical so if we are interfering with 00:15:21.83\00:15:25.23 our sleep processes... it's little wonder 00:15:25.27\00:15:27.63 that these sleeping pills are associated with 00:15:27.66\00:15:30.27 a 35 percent increase in developing cancer... 00:15:30.31\00:15:32.88 so, we got to look deeper, 00:15:32.92\00:15:35.82 we can't look to try to address our health concerns 00:15:35.86\00:15:39.63 first by taking a drug... we have to look at what 00:15:39.66\00:15:43.40 we can do with our diet, our lifestyle and attitude... 00:15:43.43\00:15:46.34 I'm a broken record 00:15:46.37\00:15:47.44 but hope it's one that will resonate with your listeners... 00:15:47.47\00:15:50.61 Well, you know, we as Adventist Christians... 00:15:50.65\00:15:54.10 we are very health-focused... and so, you are actually 00:15:54.14\00:15:59.47 singing our song... we know that 00:15:59.51\00:16:01.80 if we don't change lifestyle... make changes in the lifestyle, 00:16:01.83\00:16:07.14 then, what do you have? 00:16:07.18\00:16:09.34 you lead to disease 00:16:09.37\00:16:11.46 if you don't get enough rest, if you don't eat properly, 00:16:11.50\00:16:14.76 all of these things, 00:16:14.79\00:16:16.60 will cause disease, 00:16:16.64\00:16:18.37 and I think that we live in a Society 00:16:18.41\00:16:20.84 that's so quick to push a pill, and yet, lifestyle change... 00:16:20.88\00:16:25.08 is not that easy... another thing that you 00:16:25.11\00:16:27.62 talk about in the book... that I'd like to address is... 00:16:27.65\00:16:30.31 GERD and acid indigestion, 00:16:30.34\00:16:32.76 how does modern medicine approach that? 00:16:32.80\00:16:35.52 Allopathic medicine approach that... 00:16:35.55\00:16:37.91 and then, what is the difference with functional medicine? 00:16:37.94\00:16:41.05 Okay, yeah... Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder 00:16:41.08\00:16:44.89 is characterized by heartburn... 00:16:44.92\00:16:46.67 in the past we would called it indigestion... 00:16:46.71\00:16:49.13 but now they've got a fancier name for it, 00:16:49.16\00:16:51.51 and it's treated, now, with some pretty heavy-duty drugs 00:16:51.54\00:16:55.91 and what these drugs do is they block the production of acid 00:16:55.94\00:17:00.11 now... many people that have gastroesophageal Reflux 00:17:00.14\00:17:04.47 or have heartburn... have poor digestion... 00:17:04.50\00:17:07.21 and would actually benefit by taking hydrochloric acid... 00:17:07.24\00:17:10.52 when you take the drug, 00:17:10.55\00:17:12.75 to block the symptoms... 00:17:12.78\00:17:14.91 you're also blocking the digestive process... 00:17:14.95\00:17:17.68 so, you are creating... end up creating more problems 00:17:17.72\00:17:21.72 than you're really benefiting, and these drugs are 00:17:21.76\00:17:25.31 linked to an increased risk for fractures, 00:17:25.35\00:17:29.40 they're linked to nutrient deficiencies... 00:17:29.44\00:17:33.42 and they're linked to altering our gut microflora... 00:17:33.45\00:17:37.00 you know we have more more microbes growing in our 00:17:37.03\00:17:40.50 intestinal tract than we have cells in our human body... 00:17:40.54\00:17:43.49 Wow... so, yeah, so it's more 00:17:43.52\00:17:46.25 bacterial cells in our gut than there are human cells 00:17:46.28\00:17:49.26 in our body... and the type of bacteria that we have 00:17:49.30\00:17:52.24 in our intestinal cells, play a huge role 00:17:52.27\00:17:56.17 in our overall health, so, it's little wonder that 00:17:56.20\00:17:59.65 when we disrupt that flora, we disrupt our health, 00:17:59.68\00:18:02.89 so, I think there are better approaches, 00:18:02.93\00:18:05.36 if someone has indigestion, I think, most often, 00:18:05.39\00:18:09.32 they are going to respond better to digestive support, 00:18:09.36\00:18:13.21 that may mean hydrochloric acid supplementation 00:18:13.24\00:18:16.47 it may mean digested enzymes, it may mean taking some 00:18:16.51\00:18:19.93 of these probiotics to replenish our gut flora, 00:18:19.96\00:18:23.34 so it takes a little bit of detective work 00:18:23.38\00:18:26.00 but I think... in the long run the person is better off 00:18:26.04\00:18:29.91 utilizing a more rational approach 00:18:29.95\00:18:33.26 than just simply blocking their symptoms... 00:18:33.29\00:18:35.51 You know, I'd like to ask you 00:18:35.54\00:18:37.24 something else with that too, Dr. Mike, 00:18:37.27\00:18:39.01 because to... to again, 00:18:39.04\00:18:41.74 to the average person, if they're taking an antacid, 00:18:41.78\00:18:46.99 they think that they have too much HCl... 00:18:47.02\00:18:49.69 too much hydrochloric acid, but what you're saying 00:18:49.73\00:18:52.72 is they actually need more, is that what you're saying... 00:18:52.75\00:18:56.20 they actually need more acid to properly digest their food... 00:18:56.24\00:18:59.66 that... see... that seems counterintuitive doesn't it? 00:18:59.69\00:19:03.86 It does... it does... but about 80 or 90 percent of people 00:19:03.90\00:19:08.03 who have GERD have low to normal hydrochloric acid 00:19:08.07\00:19:14.80 production... so only about 10 percent really are secreting 00:19:14.83\00:19:18.22 too much acid... there are a lot of factors 00:19:18.25\00:19:21.91 to take into consideration with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder 00:19:21.94\00:19:25.75 certain foods tend to aggravate it 00:19:25.79\00:19:29.44 again, I'll pick on coffee... 00:19:29.48\00:19:31.72 it's one of the big culprits in GERD... 00:19:31.75\00:19:36.93 overeating... those two things alone are some of the 00:19:36.96\00:19:41.42 biggest contributors to Gastroesophageal Reflux Disorder 00:19:41.45\00:19:45.87 Wow... in the African-American Community... 00:19:45.91\00:19:48.89 there is a very high level... there's a high level of chronic 00:19:48.93\00:19:55.39 disease... such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Cancer... 00:19:55.43\00:19:59.98 and with Hypertension for example 00:20:00.02\00:20:03.60 what are some of the suggestions that you would have 00:20:03.64\00:20:06.85 to naturally control High Blood Pressure? 00:20:06.88\00:20:09.89 You know, you brought up an audience that I would love 00:20:09.93\00:20:16.19 to be able to touch, because it's very 00:20:16.23\00:20:18.67 sad for me to see this epidemic of High Blood Pressure... 00:20:18.70\00:20:23.26 Cardiovascular Disease, many forms of Cancer 00:20:23.29\00:20:27.14 in our African American Community 00:20:27.18\00:20:29.06 I don't think they have enough heroes... 00:20:29.09\00:20:31.79 they need people out there inspiring... 00:20:31.82\00:20:34.41 hopefully, you're doing that, but it's... 00:20:34.45\00:20:36.97 I've heard that it's hard for them to make changes 00:20:37.00\00:20:40.25 to their diet and lifestyle but it really begins with diet 00:20:40.28\00:20:45.25 certain racial groups... they have a genetic predisposition 00:20:45.28\00:20:50.21 for Western diseases... High Blood Pressure, 00:20:50.25\00:20:53.70 High Cholesterol... Diabetes...
