three distinct Elijah's.

call the "Historical Elijah."

Now, the religion of Jezebel

religion of Ahab the king

And Baal was the sun god.

sight of the Lord,

who were before him.

as though it had been
a trivial thing for him

to walk in the sins of Jeroboam

So we find here an
alliance between King Ahab

and the harlot woman Jezebel

intention is to lead Israel

into practicing the
false worship of Baal

who we are going to
notice is the sun god.

Now in this story
we need to recognize

that the dangerous figure
is not the political leader

the dangerous
figure is not the king,

the dangerous
figure in this whole story

is actually the queen Jezebel.

She is the one who
manipulates things,

she is the shadow ruler
behind the political ruler.

We notice this for
example in 1 Kings 21:8-10

and this is referring
to the death of Naboth.

You see, the Bible tells us

that Ahab wanted
Naboth's vineyard

and he couldn't find out
anyway of getting the vineyard
00:05:13.49\00:05:16.88
and so Jezebel said,
I'll take care of it.

And let's notice
how she took care of it.

It says there in verse 8,

"And she wrote
letters in Ahab's name,"

notice that she wrote the
letters in the King's name.

and sent the letters to
the elders and the nobles

who were dwelling in
the city with Naboth.

She wrote in the letters,
saying, proclaim a fast,

and seat Naboth with
high honor among the people.

And seat two men,

scoundrels, before him to bear
witness against him, saying,

'You have
blasphemed God and the king.'

Then take him
out, and stone him,

Notice that this was
not a decree of the King.

This was actually Jezebel

she is exercising

authority over the king.

She was actually the
shadow ruler in Israel

and she had enormous influence.

And as we study
the story of Elijah

we notice that Ahab the
king had a very weak character

and he was easily manipulated

by the strong
willed queen Jezebel.

In fact, we notice
this in 1 Kings 21:25,

the evil influence that
the queen had over the king.

It says there in 1 Kings 21:25

"But there was no one like Ahab

who sold
himself to do wickedness

in the sight of the Lord"

and now notice
why he did wickedness

"because Jezebel his
wife stirred him up."

In other words, she is the one

who is manipulating things,

she is influencing the king

so that the king
will do her bidding.

very interesting disruption

of the character of Ahab.

It says there, "Ahab
was weak in moral power.

His union by marriage
with an idolatrous woman

of decided character
and positive temperament

resulted disastrously both
to himself and to the nation.

Unprincipled, and with no
high standard of right doing,

his character was easily molded

by the determined
spirit of Jezebel."

interesting picture,

is easily manipulated

who uses the king to
accomplish her purpose.

Now, what was the religion

that Jezebel wanted to impose

through the
influence of the king?

It was actually a
syncretistic religion.

In other words, it
was it an amalgamation

between the worship of the Lord

and the worship of Baal.

It was not purely Baal worship

mixture of Jehovah worship

when Elijah is
there on Mount Carmel

"And Elijah came
to all the people,

and said, 'How long will you
falter between two opinions?'"
00:08:50.51\00:08:56.48
Notice, the people
were not determined

on one side or the other side,
00:08:58.07\00:09:00.03
they actually
wanted one foot on one side

and one foot on the other.

So Elijah says,
"'How long will you falter

between two opinions?'"

I like the way the
way King James puts it,

limp between two opinions?"

"'If the Lord is God, follow Him

but if Baal, follow him.'

But the people
answered him not a word."

In other words, we find this
story a syncretistic religion

where God's people were
claiming to serve the Lord

and at the same time they
were serving the sun god Baal.

Now in Hosea 2:8

of the religion of Baal.

He was actually considered
to be the energizer of creation

as the sun energizes creation.

Notice what it says in Hosea 2:8

"Nor she did not know"
this is speaking about Israel,

"that I gave her
grain, new wine, and oil,

and multiplied
her silver and gold
00:10:03.14\00:10:06.97
which they prepared for Baal."

Notice that Hosea here
is telling us very clearly

that Israel
attributed the grain,

the new wine and the oil to Baal

because Baal was supposing
00:10:19.16\00:10:21.19
the sun god who
energizes creation.

So, what Jezebel was imposing
00:10:24.21\00:10:26.26
threw her
influence upon the king
00:10:26.29\00:10:28.32
was actually the
religion of the sun god.

This corroborated in the
book Testimonies for the Church,

where we find these words.

Speaking about Israel
when they were on Mount Carmel

and the false prophets
were trying to get Baal

to rain fire from heaven

"Their pleadings are mingled
with cursing to their sun-god

Baal was the sun God.

a murderous woman.

servants of the Lord,

prophets of the Lord.

After the Mount
Carmel experience,

against the prophet Elijah

It says, "And Ahab told Jezebel
all that Elijah had done,

also how he had executed

all the
prophets with the sword."

Because at this
point the prophets of Baal

had been executed.

Notice the message that
Jezebel sends in verse 2,

messenger to Elijah, saying,

In other words, Jezebel gave
a death decree against Elijah

but interestingly enough
we will notice in this story

that God shielded
the life of Elijah

and he protected him
from this death decree

three other characteristics

who influenced the king

Who fed these false prophets?

that this threefold alliance

that the king and Jezebel

prophets actually lead Israel,

threefold alliance

Now, we have another person

about Elijah the prophet,

unmask this mass deception

that was taking
place among the Israelites.
