Shall we bow our heads for prayer? 00:00:35.13\00:00:38.32 Father in heaven, we thank You so much 00:00:38.35\00:00:39.76 for the opportunity of being here today to study Your word. 00:00:39.79\00:00:43.79 And as we study about the three Elijah's of scripture, 00:00:43.82\00:00:47.54 we ask for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit. 00:00:47.57\00:00:50.46 Give us clarity of thought and give us tender hearts 00:00:50.49\00:00:53.69 to receive the word which You will plant. 00:00:53.72\00:00:56.82 We pray this in the precious name 00:00:56.85\00:00:58.35 of your beloved Son Jesus, amen. 00:00:58.38\00:01:03.35 In this series, we are going to speak 00:01:03.38\00:01:05.74 about the biblical concept of Elijah. 00:01:05.77\00:01:09.54 And basically we are gonna see 00:01:09.57\00:01:11.03 that the Bible presents three distinct Elijah's. 00:01:11.06\00:01:16.94 The first is what we might call the "Historical Elijah." 00:01:16.97\00:01:20.59 This is the Elijah that lived in the Old Testament period. 00:01:20.62\00:01:25.11 The Second Elijah, 00:01:25.14\00:01:26.20 I have chosen to call the prophetic Elijah 00:01:26.23\00:01:29.68 or we could also call him the New Testament Elijah. 00:01:29.71\00:01:34.11 The final Elijah that we are going to talk 00:01:34.14\00:01:36.22 about is the Apoplectic Elijah. 00:01:36.25\00:01:39.52 In other words, the Elijah 00:01:39.55\00:01:41.28 that we find in the Book of Revelation. 00:01:41.31\00:01:44.99 Now, we are gonna find in these three Elijah's 00:01:45.02\00:01:48.85 very many common elements. 00:01:48.88\00:01:51.87 So, its very, very important that we pay attention 00:01:51.90\00:01:54.56 to what we are gonna study in this first presentation 00:01:54.59\00:01:58.61 because the details will resurface again 00:01:58.64\00:02:01.57 when we discuss the New Testament Elijah 00:02:01.60\00:02:04.36 and when we discuss the final end time Elijah. 00:02:04.39\00:02:08.09 So, it's very important that we understand 00:02:08.12\00:02:10.24 the sequence of events 00:02:10.27\00:02:11.82 in the original historical Elijah story. 00:02:11.85\00:02:16.49 In this story, we are gonna notice 00:02:16.52\00:02:18.09 that there was first of all a king 00:02:18.12\00:02:19.90 or a political ruler in every single case. 00:02:19.93\00:02:23.27 We are gonna notice also 00:02:23.30\00:02:24.52 that there is a harlot woman involved in the story. 00:02:24.55\00:02:28.70 We will notice as well that the harlot woman has instruments 00:02:28.73\00:02:32.04 that she uses to extend her apostate religion. 00:02:32.07\00:02:35.55 In the case of the historical Elijah 00:02:35.58\00:02:37.64 they were the false prophets of Baal. 00:02:37.67\00:02:40.64 Involved also are God's people. 00:02:40.67\00:02:43.59 In fact, God's people are deceived 00:02:43.62\00:02:45.96 by this threefold alliance of the king, 00:02:45.99\00:02:48.89 the harlot and the false prophets of Baal. 00:02:48.92\00:02:52.46 And then finally of course we have Elijah, 00:02:52.49\00:02:56.47 who rebukes this threefold alliance 00:02:56.50\00:02:59.28 and calls God's people to come back to the straight 00:02:59.31\00:03:04.10 and narrow way. 00:03:04.13\00:03:06.34 Now, the religion of Jezebel 00:03:06.37\00:03:09.59 and the religion of Ahab the king 00:03:09.62\00:03:12.82 and the religion of false prophets 00:03:12.85\00:03:14.70 is know as the religion of Baal. 00:03:14.73\00:03:18.13 And Baal was the sun god. 00:03:18.16\00:03:21.04 Now what we want to do is begin first of all 00:03:21.07\00:03:23.57 with the three enemies of Elijah 00:03:23.60\00:03:25.80 in our study in the Old Testament story. 00:03:25.83\00:03:28.56 So, turn with me in your Bibles to 1 Kings 00:03:28.59\00:03:30.97 16:30, 31, 00:03:31.00\00:03:35.52 1 Kings 16:30, 31. 00:03:35.55\00:03:40.41 Here we find a description of the alliance 00:03:40.44\00:03:42.84 between the king, the political ruler 00:03:42.87\00:03:45.11 and this harlot woman who is known as Jezebel. 00:03:45.14\00:03:50.11 It says there, "Now Ahab the son of Omri 00:03:50.14\00:03:54.86 did evil in the sight of the Lord, 00:03:54.89\00:03:57.92 more than all who were before him. 00:03:57.95\00:04:00.88 And it came to pass, 00:04:00.91\00:04:02.45 as though it had been a trivial thing for him 00:04:02.48\00:04:04.90 to walk in the sins of Jeroboam 00:04:04.93\00:04:07.07 the son of Nebat that he took as wife Jezebel 00:04:07.10\00:04:11.47 the daughter of Ethbaal, 00:04:11.50\00:04:13.54 king of the Sidonians and he went and served Baal 00:04:13.57\00:04:17.83 and worshiped him." 00:04:17.86\00:04:19.49 So we find here an alliance between King Ahab 00:04:19.52\00:04:23.13 and the harlot woman Jezebel 00:04:23.16\00:04:25.27 and the intention is to lead Israel 00:04:25.30\00:04:28.20 into practicing the false worship of Baal 00:04:28.23\00:04:32.64 who we are going to notice is the sun god. 00:04:32.67\00:04:35.78 Now in this story we need to recognize 00:04:35.81\00:04:38.31 that the dangerous figure is not the political leader 00:04:38.34\00:04:41.67 the dangerous figure is not the king, 00:04:41.70\00:04:44.29 the dangerous figure in this whole story 00:04:44.32\00:04:47.39 is actually the queen Jezebel. 00:04:47.42\00:04:51.40 She is the one who manipulates things, 00:04:51.43\00:04:53.96 she is the shadow ruler behind the political ruler. 00:04:53.99\00:04:58.88 We notice this for example in 1 Kings 21:8-10 00:04:58.91\00:05:04.76 and this is referring to the death of Naboth. 00:05:04.79\00:05:07.53 You see, the Bible tells us 00:05:07.56\00:05:11.14 that Ahab wanted Naboth's vineyard 00:05:11.17\00:05:13.46 and he couldn't find out anyway of getting the vineyard 00:05:13.49\00:05:16.88 and so Jezebel said, I'll take care of it. 00:05:16.91\00:05:19.74 And let's notice how she took care of it. 00:05:19.77\00:05:22.25 It says there in verse 8, 00:05:22.28\00:05:24.38 "And she wrote letters in Ahab's name," 00:05:24.41\00:05:27.51 notice that she wrote the letters in the King's name. 00:05:27.54\00:05:30.63 "Sealed them with his seal, 00:05:30.66\00:05:33.10 and sent the letters to the elders and the nobles 00:05:33.13\00:05:36.08 who were dwelling in the city with Naboth. 00:05:36.11\00:05:39.60 She wrote in the letters, saying, proclaim a fast, 00:05:39.63\00:05:43.18 and seat Naboth with high honor among the people. 00:05:43.21\00:05:47.12 And seat two men, 00:05:47.15\00:05:48.72 scoundrels, before him to bear witness against him, saying, 00:05:48.75\00:05:52.62 'You have blasphemed God and the king.' 00:05:52.65\00:05:55.44 Then take him out, and stone him, 00:05:55.47\00:05:57.89 that he may die." 00:05:57.92\00:05:59.67 Notice that this was not a decree of the King. 00:05:59.70\00:06:02.43 This was actually Jezebel 00:06:02.46\00:06:05.10 who was writing this decree 00:06:05.13\00:06:07.07 she was sealing the decree with the ring of the king 00:06:07.10\00:06:11.00 for the death of Naboth. 00:06:11.03\00:06:12.95 In other words, she is exercising 00:06:12.98\00:06:14.95 authority over the king. 00:06:14.98\00:06:18.16 She was actually the shadow ruler in Israel 00:06:18.19\00:06:21.84 and she had enormous influence. 00:06:21.87\00:06:24.14 And as we study the story of Elijah 00:06:24.17\00:06:26.97 we notice that Ahab the king had a very weak character 00:06:27.00\00:06:33.39 and he was easily manipulated 00:06:33.42\00:06:35.80 by the strong willed queen Jezebel. 00:06:35.83\00:06:39.60 In fact, we notice this in 1 Kings 21:25, 00:06:39.63\00:06:43.94 the evil influence that the queen had over the king. 00:06:43.97\00:06:47.79 It says there in 1 Kings 21:25 00:06:47.82\00:06:51.04 "But there was no one like Ahab 00:06:51.07\00:06:54.57 who sold himself to do wickedness 00:06:54.60\00:06:58.00 in the sight of the Lord" 00:06:58.03\00:06:59.16 and now notice why he did wickedness 00:06:59.19\00:07:01.16 "because Jezebel his wife stirred him up." 00:07:01.19\00:07:05.49 In other words, she is the one 00:07:05.52\00:07:07.19 who is manipulating things, 00:07:07.22\00:07:08.66 she is influencing the king 00:07:08.69\00:07:10.92 so that the king will do her bidding. 00:07:10.95\00:07:13.92 In the book Prophets and Kings, 00:07:13.95\00:07:15.55 page 115 we find a very interesting disruption 00:07:15.58\00:07:20.29 of the character of Ahab. 00:07:20.32\00:07:22.93 It says there, "Ahab was weak in moral power. 00:07:22.96\00:07:27.83 His union by marriage with an idolatrous woman 00:07:27.86\00:07:32.22 of decided character and positive temperament 00:07:32.25\00:07:36.34 resulted disastrously both to himself and to the nation. 00:07:36.37\00:07:41.57 Unprincipled, and with no high standard of right doing, 00:07:41.60\00:07:46.66 his character was easily molded 00:07:46.69\00:07:50.98 by the determined spirit of Jezebel." 00:07:51.01\00:07:55.49 So you catch this interesting picture, 00:07:55.52\00:07:57.53 a weak king who is easily manipulated 00:07:57.56\00:08:01.89 a determined queen a Apostate harlot 00:08:01.92\00:08:05.23 according to the scripture strong willed 00:08:05.26\00:08:07.73 who uses the king to accomplish her purpose. 00:08:07.76\00:08:12.11 Now, what was the religion 00:08:12.14\00:08:13.75 that Jezebel wanted to impose 00:08:13.78\00:08:16.13 through the influence of the king? 00:08:16.16\00:08:18.72 It was actually a syncretistic religion. 00:08:18.75\00:08:21.63 In other words, it was it an amalgamation 00:08:21.66\00:08:24.08 between the worship of the Lord 00:08:24.11\00:08:26.49 and the worship of Baal. 00:08:26.52\00:08:28.57 It was not purely Baal worship 00:08:28.60\00:08:31.25 it was actually a mixture of Jehovah worship 00:08:31.28\00:08:35.51 and Baal worship. 00:08:35.54\00:08:37.37 In fact we notice this in 1 Kings 18:21 00:08:37.40\00:08:44.05 when Elijah is there on Mount Carmel 00:08:44.08\00:08:46.45 we find these words, 00:08:46.48\00:08:48.41 "And Elijah came to all the people, 00:08:48.44\00:08:50.48 and said, 'How long will you falter between two opinions?'" 00:08:50.51\00:08:56.48 Notice, the people were not determined 00:08:56.51\00:08:58.04 on one side or the other side, 00:08:58.07\00:09:00.03 they actually wanted one foot on one side 00:09:00.06\00:09:02.47 and one foot on the other. 00:09:02.50\00:09:04.25 So Elijah says, "'How long will you falter 00:09:04.28\00:09:07.43 between two opinions?'" 00:09:07.46\00:09:09.07 I like the way the way King James puts it, 00:09:09.10\00:09:10.76 "How long will you limp between two opinions?" 00:09:10.79\00:09:13.88 "'If the Lord is God, follow Him 00:09:13.91\00:09:16.92 but if Baal, follow him.' 00:09:16.95\00:09:19.49 But the people answered him not a word." 00:09:19.52\00:09:22.94 In other words, we find this story a syncretistic religion 00:09:22.97\00:09:27.03 where God's people were claiming to serve the Lord 00:09:27.06\00:09:30.21 and at the same time they were serving the sun god Baal. 00:09:30.24\00:09:35.72 Now in Hosea 2:8 00:09:35.75\00:09:38.38 we find the description of the religion of Baal. 00:09:38.41\00:09:42.27 He was actually considered to be the energizer of creation 00:09:42.30\00:09:45.89 as the sun energizes creation. 00:09:45.92\00:09:48.57 Notice what it says in Hosea 2:8 00:09:48.60\00:09:52.99 "Nor she did not know" this is speaking about Israel, 00:09:53.02\00:09:57.11 "that I gave her grain, new wine, and oil, 00:09:57.14\00:10:03.11 and multiplied her silver and gold 00:10:03.14\00:10:06.97 which they prepared for Baal." 00:10:07.00\00:10:10.54 Notice that Hosea here is telling us very clearly 00:10:10.57\00:10:13.98 that Israel attributed the grain, 00:10:14.01\00:10:16.25 the new wine and the oil to Baal 00:10:16.28\00:10:19.13 because Baal was supposing 00:10:19.16\00:10:21.19 the sun god who energizes creation. 00:10:21.22\00:10:24.18 So, what Jezebel was imposing 00:10:24.21\00:10:26.26 threw her influence upon the king 00:10:26.29\00:10:28.32 was actually the religion of the sun god. 00:10:28.35\00:10:32.45 This corroborated in the book Testimonies for the Church, 00:10:32.48\00:10:35.97 volume 3, page 282 where we find these words. 00:10:36.00\00:10:41.23 Speaking about Israel when they were on Mount Carmel 00:10:41.26\00:10:46.15 and the false prophets were trying to get Baal 00:10:46.18\00:10:48.79 to rain fire from heaven 00:10:48.82\00:10:51.10 "Their pleadings are mingled with cursing to their sun-god 00:10:51.13\00:10:58.15 that he does not send fire for their altars." 00:10:58.18\00:11:02.01 So notice that Baal was the sun God. 00:11:02.04\00:11:06.05 Now let's continue studying about Jezebel. 00:11:06.08\00:11:09.34 We have noticed Ahab, 00:11:09.37\00:11:10.70 we talked a little bit about Jezebel, 00:11:10.73\00:11:12.78 we've talked about the religion of Baal, 00:11:12.81\00:11:14.76 the religion of the sun God, 00:11:14.79\00:11:16.22 now let's notice 00:11:16.25\00:11:17.28 a few more details about this woman Jezebel 00:11:17.31\00:11:20.73 who was the dangerous figure in the story. 00:11:20.76\00:11:23.54 In 1 Kings 18:4 we find that Jezebel was a murderer 00:11:23.57\00:11:28.87 of God's prophets, of God's servants. 00:11:28.90\00:11:31.50 It says there in verse 4, 00:11:31.53\00:11:33.22 "For so it was, 00:11:33.25\00:11:34.82 while Jezebel massacred the prophets of the Lord," 00:11:34.85\00:11:39.16 notice she massacred the prophets of the Lord 00:11:39.19\00:11:41.74 "that Obadiah had taken one hundred prophets 00:11:41.77\00:11:44.27 and hidden them, fifty to a cave, 00:11:44.30\00:11:46.81 and had fed them with bread and water." 00:11:46.84\00:11:50.29 So Jezebel was a murderous woman. 00:11:50.32\00:11:53.00 She killed the servants of the Lord, 00:11:53.03\00:11:55.27 she killed the prophets of the Lord. 00:11:55.30\00:11:57.70 After the Mount Carmel experience, 00:11:57.73\00:11:59.73 she even gave a death decree against the prophet Elijah 00:11:59.76\00:12:03.26 and she said this very day you are gonna die. 00:12:03.29\00:12:05.94 Notice what we find in 1 Kings 19:1, 2. 00:12:05.97\00:12:11.15 It says, "And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, 00:12:11.18\00:12:15.99 also how he had executed 00:12:16.02\00:12:18.64 all the prophets with the sword." 00:12:18.67\00:12:20.22 Because at this point the prophets of Baal 00:12:20.25\00:12:22.70 had been executed. 00:12:22.73\00:12:24.29 Notice the message that Jezebel sends in verse 2, 00:12:24.32\00:12:27.48 "Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, 00:12:27.51\00:12:32.08 'So let the gods do to me, and more also, 00:12:32.11\00:12:36.71 if I do not make your life 00:12:36.74\00:12:40.01 as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.'" 00:12:40.04\00:12:44.80 In other words, Jezebel gave a death decree against Elijah 00:12:44.83\00:12:49.12 but interestingly enough we will notice in this story 00:12:49.15\00:12:52.08 that God shielded the life of Elijah 00:12:52.11\00:12:55.74 and he protected him from this death decree 00:12:55.77\00:12:58.95 and eventually Elijah was translated to heaven 00:12:58.98\00:13:02.52 from among the living. 00:13:02.55\00:13:04.64 Now, notice also, three other characteristics 00:13:04.67\00:13:08.10 of this harlot woman who influenced the king 00:13:08.13\00:13:11.28 who united with the secular power 00:13:11.31\00:13:13.27 or with the civil power. 00:13:13.30\00:13:16.48 2 Kings 9:22 tells us 00:13:16.51\00:13:19.68 three important things about Jezebel. 00:13:19.71\00:13:22.47 It says there, "Now it happened, 00:13:22.50\00:13:25.73 when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, 00:13:25.76\00:13:30.14 'Is it peace, Jehu?' 00:13:30.17\00:13:32.77 So he answered, 'What peace'" 00:13:32.80\00:13:36.47 now notice this, "As long as the harlotries" 00:13:36.50\00:13:40.67 see she is called a harlot, 00:13:40.70\00:13:42.58 "As long as the harlotries of your mother" 00:13:42.61\00:13:46.43 she is called mother "mother Jezebel" 00:13:46.46\00:13:49.22 and notice "and her witchcraft are so many?" 00:13:49.25\00:13:54.19 She is called mother, 00:13:54.22\00:13:56.20 she is involved in witchcraft in the occult 00:13:56.23\00:13:59.39 and besides that we are told 00:13:59.42\00:14:01.70 that she was involved in her harlotry. 00:14:01.73\00:14:05.01 Those are three very important terms 00:14:05.04\00:14:06.85 that we need to remember 00:14:06.88\00:14:08.17 as we will study the last two Elijah's. 00:14:08.20\00:14:12.53 Now, notice also 1 Kings 18:19. 00:14:12.56\00:14:16.61 Now, we will go to another group 00:14:16.64\00:14:18.56 that Jezebel used to accomplish her purposes. 00:14:18.59\00:14:21.93 Notice that she joined the king, 00:14:21.96\00:14:23.62 she joined the civil power to accomplish her purposes 00:14:23.65\00:14:26.76 but to extend her religion 00:14:26.79\00:14:28.62 she had another group of individuals 00:14:28.65\00:14:30.75 whom she used to extend 00:14:30.78\00:14:32.74 the region of the sun god Baal. 00:14:32.77\00:14:35.22 Those are known as the false prophets of Baal. 00:14:35.25\00:14:39.63 Notice 1 Kings 18:19 it says, 00:14:39.66\00:14:43.23 "Now therefore, send and gather 00:14:43.26\00:14:45.97 all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, 00:14:46.00\00:14:49.84 the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, 00:14:49.87\00:14:52.81 and the four hundred prophets of Asherah" 00:14:52.84\00:14:55.83 and now comes a very important phrase 00:14:55.86\00:14:58.19 "who eat at Jezebel's table." 00:14:58.22\00:15:02.63 Who fed these false prophets? 00:15:02.66\00:15:04.81 It was Jezebel. 00:15:04.84\00:15:06.48 So whose instruments were the false prophets? 00:15:06.51\00:15:09.58 They accomplish the will of Jezebel. 00:15:09.61\00:15:13.09 They extended the religion of Baal 00:15:13.12\00:15:15.29 through out the whole kingdom. 00:15:15.32\00:15:17.03 And so we find in the story of Elijah 00:15:17.06\00:15:19.30 a triple alliance or a threefold wicked alliance 00:15:19.33\00:15:23.51 composed of a civil ruler the king, 00:15:23.54\00:15:26.76 a harlot woman, Jezebel, and the false prophets 00:15:26.79\00:15:31.14 who are the instruments to extend 00:15:31.17\00:15:33.55 the apostate religion of Baal and of Jezebel. 00:15:33.58\00:15:38.57 Now, it's interesting to notice that this threefold alliance 00:15:38.60\00:15:41.98 actually had Israel God's people deceived. 00:15:42.01\00:15:46.77 Notice, 1 Kings 21:22 how this triple alliance 00:15:46.80\00:15:51.71 had Israel deceived with this apostate religion. 00:15:51.74\00:15:56.90 It says there, "I'll make your house 00:15:56.93\00:16:01.06 like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, 00:16:01.09\00:16:04.88 and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, 00:16:04.91\00:16:09.18 because of the provocation" now notice this 00:16:09.21\00:16:12.20 "with which you have provoked Me to anger" 00:16:12.23\00:16:15.08 and then the last phrase "and made Israel to sin." 00:16:15.11\00:16:20.97 Did you notice here that the king and Jezebel 00:16:21.00\00:16:23.44 and the false prophets actually lead Israel, 00:16:23.47\00:16:27.57 God's people to sin. 00:16:27.60\00:16:30.06 Actually, when Jezebel and the king, 00:16:30.09\00:16:32.60 and the false prophets were seeking Elijah they-- 00:16:32.63\00:16:37.71 they sort Elijah through the influence upon the people. 00:16:37.74\00:16:41.97 Notice 1 King 19:10, 1 King 19:10. 00:16:42.00\00:16:48.71 "So He said," this is Elijah speaking, 00:16:48.74\00:16:52.44 "'I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts'" 00:16:52.47\00:16:56.24 now notice this, 00:16:56.27\00:16:57.54 "'For the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, 00:16:57.57\00:17:02.76 torn down your altars, 00:17:02.79\00:17:05.27 and killed your prophets with the sword. 00:17:05.30\00:17:08.39 I alone am left and they seek to take my life.'" 00:17:08.42\00:17:13.69 Did you notice who was trying to take Elijah's life, 00:17:13.72\00:17:16.62 who actually was persecuting the prophets of the Lord? 00:17:16.65\00:17:19.80 Yes, it was the king, yes, it was Jezebel, 00:17:19.83\00:17:22.72 yes, it was the false prophets 00:17:22.75\00:17:24.41 but very clearly here it says 00:17:24.44\00:17:26.36 that it was the children of Israel 00:17:26.39\00:17:28.73 who forsake the covenant and actually did this work. 00:17:28.76\00:17:33.11 So, you have this threefold alliance 00:17:33.14\00:17:34.93 the king, the harlot woman and the false prophets of Baal, 00:17:34.96\00:17:39.06 the instruments of this harlot 00:17:39.09\00:17:41.37 and their acting upon the congregation 00:17:41.40\00:17:43.80 for the congregation to persecute Elijah 00:17:43.83\00:17:47.58 through their influence or through out the kingdom. 00:17:47.61\00:17:52.64 Now, we have another person 00:17:52.67\00:17:53.91 that we need to talk about in this story, 00:17:53.94\00:17:55.71 and that is the prophet Elijah, of course. 00:17:55.74\00:17:59.53 You know, we've talked about the bad company, 00:17:59.56\00:18:02.31 we've talked about the king, we've talked about the harlot 00:18:02.34\00:18:05.28 and we've talked about the false prophets. 00:18:05.31\00:18:07.21 Now, we need to talk about Elijah the prophet, 00:18:07.24\00:18:10.02 whom God raised to unmask this mass deception 00:18:10.05\00:18:15.29 that was taking place among the Israelites. 00:18:15.32\00:18:18.40 It's very important to realize 00:18:18.43\00:18:20.29 that Elijah is sent to God's people. 00:18:20.32\00:18:23.72 He has not sent to the un-churched so to speak. 00:18:23.75\00:18:27.32 He is not sent to the pagans. 00:18:27.35\00:18:29.35 The message of Elijah is given 00:18:29.38\00:18:32.37 to those who profess to serve the true God. 00:18:32.40\00:18:36.12 In other words, He is not dealing 00:18:36.15\00:18:38.08 with secular minded people who profess not religion 00:18:38.11\00:18:41.84 His message is primarily 00:18:41.87\00:18:43.80 for people who have religion, 00:18:43.83\00:18:45.77 for people who claim to serve the true God. 00:18:45.80\00:18:49.63 And we are gonna notice that Elijah 00:18:49.66\00:18:51.83 did not actually bring any new religion into Israel. 00:18:51.86\00:18:55.49 No new doctrines, no new teachings, 00:18:55.52\00:18:57.71 the purpose of Elijah is to bring Israel 00:18:57.74\00:19:01.22 God's chosen people back to the truth, 00:19:01.25\00:19:04.53 back to the foundations, 00:19:04.56\00:19:06.13 back to the worship of the true God. 00:19:06.16\00:19:08.87 In fact, let's notice 00:19:08.90\00:19:10.23 several texts that show that the purpose of Elijah 00:19:10.26\00:19:13.27 is to bring the churched 00:19:13.30\00:19:15.42 so to speak or to bring those who claim to be God's people 00:19:15.45\00:19:19.32 back to the straight and narrow. 00:19:19.35\00:19:21.58 Malachi 4:5, 6, "Behold, 00:19:21.61\00:19:27.83 I will send you Elijah the prophet 00:19:27.86\00:19:31.01 before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord." 00:19:31.04\00:19:35.79 And now notice, "He will turn 00:19:35.82\00:19:38.79 the hearts of the fathers to the children, 00:19:38.82\00:19:41.85 and the hearts of the children to their fathers, 00:19:41.88\00:19:44.94 lest I come and strike the earth with a curse." 00:19:44.97\00:19:48.84 What's been said in these verses 00:19:48.87\00:19:50.60 is that there is gonna be a reconciliation 00:19:50.63\00:19:53.15 between that generation 00:19:53.18\00:19:54.62 and the generation of the fathers. 00:19:54.65\00:19:56.65 The generation of the father's 00:19:56.68\00:19:58.03 we are going to notice are Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, 00:19:58.06\00:20:01.67 the religion of the founders of Israel so to speak. 00:20:01.70\00:20:05.67 In other words, there is going to be reconciliation 00:20:05.70\00:20:07.84 between the Israel of Elijah's day and the Israel 00:20:07.87\00:20:11.90 when it was founded by Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 00:20:11.93\00:20:16.26 I want you to notice also 00:20:16.29\00:20:17.88 what we find in 1 Kings 18:37 00:20:17.91\00:20:21.58 on the mission of Elijah. 00:20:21.61\00:20:23.91 We are gonna notice that 00:20:23.94\00:20:24.97 he was not actually an innovator, 00:20:25.00\00:20:27.94 he was not actually bringing new truths 00:20:27.97\00:20:30.83 or new doctrines, he wanted to restore 00:20:30.86\00:20:33.49 that which had been forgotten by Israel. 00:20:33.52\00:20:36.77 It says, there "Hear me, O Lord," 00:20:36.80\00:20:40.10 here he is praying on Mount Carmel 00:20:40.13\00:20:41.79 for fire to fall from heaven. 00:20:41.82\00:20:43.46 "Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know 00:20:43.49\00:20:49.81 that you are the Lord God" and now notice this, 00:20:49.84\00:20:53.95 "and that You have" what? 00:20:53.98\00:20:56.28 "Turned their hearts back to You again." 00:20:56.31\00:21:01.61 Did you notice that the role of Elijah 00:21:01.64\00:21:03.30 is not to establish new religion, 00:21:03.33\00:21:06.47 it is not to innovate, 00:21:06.50\00:21:08.54 the role of Elijah is to bring the people back 00:21:08.57\00:21:11.52 to what they have done astray, from back to true worship, 00:21:11.55\00:21:15.53 back to the commandments of God. 00:21:15.56\00:21:17.85 Luke 1:16 has the same idea. 00:21:17.88\00:21:20.67 Every time Elijah appears he is trying 00:21:20.70\00:21:23.02 to bring God's people away from apostasy back to the truth, 00:21:23.05\00:21:27.18 back to true worship, back to the commandments of God. 00:21:27.21\00:21:30.78 It says there in Luke 1:16 "And he will turn many" 00:21:30.81\00:21:37.31 now notice this "many of the children 00:21:37.34\00:21:39.91 of Israel to the Lord their God." 00:21:39.94\00:21:42.05 Now wait a minute I though that Israel 00:21:42.08\00:21:43.90 did belong to the Lord their God. 00:21:43.93\00:21:46.18 It must be that they were in apostasy. 00:21:46.21\00:21:48.68 Is Elijah is sent to an apostate Israel? 00:21:48.71\00:21:52.37 He is not sent to the Philistines 00:21:52.40\00:21:53.96 or to the Babylonians or the Egyptians. 00:21:53.99\00:21:56.44 He is sent to those who profess to be God's people 00:21:56.47\00:21:59.20 and they are practicing false worship, 00:21:59.23\00:22:00.89 they are trampling of the commandments of God 00:22:00.92\00:22:02.89 and they are worshipping the sun god Baal. 00:22:02.92\00:22:05.92 And so it says, "He will turn many of the children of Israel 00:22:05.95\00:22:11.01 back to the Lord their God." 00:22:11.04\00:22:13.69 Notice also Matthew 17:11 this comes through timing again 00:22:13.72\00:22:17.64 and the role of Elijah, it says there, 00:22:17.67\00:22:21.57 "Jesus answered and said to them, 00:22:21.60\00:22:24.42 'Indeed, Elijah is coming first'" 00:22:24.45\00:22:27.95 and notice "'and will'" what "'will restore all things.'" 00:22:27.98\00:22:33.98 In other words, he is gonna bring the people 00:22:34.01\00:22:35.91 back to the way it once was. 00:22:35.94\00:22:38.51 He is the restorer, he turns God's people 00:22:38.54\00:22:41.39 back to the true God by the way do you know 00:22:41.42\00:22:44.82 that when He was Mount Carmel 00:22:44.85\00:22:46.58 he had to repair the altar of the Lord 00:22:46.61\00:22:48.89 because Israel had forgotten 00:22:48.92\00:22:50.34 how to worship the true God 00:22:50.37\00:22:51.85 through the sacrifice of the lamb? 00:22:51.88\00:22:54.45 Notice I Kings 18:30, 00:22:54.48\00:22:57.95 here Elijah is at Mount Carmel 00:22:57.98\00:23:00.17 and I want you to notice what he does. 00:23:00.20\00:23:01.97 It says, "Then Elijah said to all the people, 00:23:02.00\00:23:05.17 'Come near to me.' 00:23:05.20\00:23:06.73 So all the people came near to him." 00:23:06.76\00:23:09.14 And let's listen to this. 00:23:09.17\00:23:10.98 "And he repaired the altar of the Lord 00:23:11.01\00:23:14.88 that was broken down." 00:23:14.91\00:23:16.90 Did he erect new sacrifices 00:23:16.93\00:23:19.17 that had never been heard of before? 00:23:19.20\00:23:20.97 No, he is restoring true worship. 00:23:21.00\00:23:24.07 He is restoring the altar 00:23:24.10\00:23:26.08 where the sacrifices were offered. 00:23:26.11\00:23:28.34 Notice also 1 Kings 18:31, 32, 00:23:28.37\00:23:32.64 once again the idea of restoring Israel, God's people. 00:23:32.67\00:23:36.68 It says there "And Elijah took twelve stones" 00:23:36.71\00:23:40.80 this is interesting he took 12 stones 00:23:40.83\00:23:43.63 "according to the number of the tribes 00:23:43.66\00:23:46.01 of the sons of Jacob," 00:23:46.04\00:23:48.52 how many stones does he take? 00:23:48.55\00:23:49.79 Twelve. 00:23:49.82\00:23:50.85 Why did he take 12? 00:23:50.88\00:23:52.99 Because Israel had 12 tribes. 00:23:53.02\00:23:54.49 What is he restoring? 00:23:54.52\00:23:56.23 He is restoring Israel. 00:23:56.26\00:23:59.85 So it says, "And Elijah took twelve stones 00:23:59.88\00:24:01.86 according to the number of the tribes 00:24:01.89\00:24:03.27 of the sons of Jacob, 00:24:03.30\00:24:04.58 to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, 00:24:04.61\00:24:06.94 'Israel shall be your name.' 00:24:06.97\00:24:09.19 Then with the stones he built an altar 00:24:09.22\00:24:12.15 in the name of the Lord." 00:24:12.18\00:24:14.67 And when actually praised for fire 00:24:14.70\00:24:16.50 to come down from heaven 00:24:16.53\00:24:17.64 I want you to notice, who he mentions in his prayer. 00:24:17.67\00:24:21.47 He mentions the founders of Israel. 00:24:21.50\00:24:24.34 It says 1 Kings 18:36 00:24:24.37\00:24:28.28 and we will read verse 37 as well, 00:24:28.31\00:24:30.53 "And it came to pass, 00:24:30.56\00:24:32.14 at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, 00:24:32.17\00:24:36.49 that Elijah the prophet came near and said," 00:24:36.52\00:24:40.79 listen to this "'Lord God of Abraham, 00:24:40.82\00:24:45.44 Isaac, and Israel," 00:24:45.47\00:24:49.13 who is he mentioning in his prayer? 00:24:49.16\00:24:50.40 The founders of Israel. 00:24:50.43\00:24:53.21 "Let it be known this day that You are God in Israel 00:24:53.24\00:24:57.20 and I'm Your servant, 00:24:57.23\00:24:59.04 and that I have done all these things at Your word. 00:24:59.07\00:25:03.14 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, 00:25:03.17\00:25:05.73 that this people may know 00:25:05.76\00:25:07.73 that You are the Lord God" 00:25:07.76\00:25:09.65 and now notice this 00:25:09.68\00:25:10.83 "And that You have turned their hearts back to You again." 00:25:10.86\00:25:17.83 What is the role of Elijah? To bring new religion? 00:25:17.86\00:25:21.64 To establish new institutions? 00:25:21.67\00:25:23.90 To teach new doctrines? 00:25:23.93\00:25:25.20 No, God's own people are in apostasy 00:25:25.23\00:25:30.00 and the role of Elijah is to come 00:25:30.03\00:25:31.96 and to speak to God's people 00:25:31.99\00:25:33.88 who are worshipping the sun god 00:25:33.91\00:25:36.23 and to rebuke this threefold alliance 00:25:36.26\00:25:39.00 so that Israel will come back to the God 00:25:39.03\00:25:42.55 that they had once believed in and to the God 00:25:42.58\00:25:46.71 that their fathers had worshipped long before. 00:25:46.74\00:25:51.09 I want you to notice 1 Kings 19:10 00:25:51.12\00:25:54.11 the same idea coming through that people 00:25:54.14\00:25:56.17 that gonna astray from God's covenant. 00:25:56.20\00:25:57.88 So Elijah now restores the covenant of the Lord says, 00:25:57.91\00:26:01.41 there in 1 Kings 19:10, "So he said, 00:26:01.44\00:26:06.22 'I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts'" 00:26:06.25\00:26:09.42 now notice this "'for the children 00:26:09.45\00:26:11.32 of Israel have forsaken Your'" 00:26:11.35\00:26:14.25 what "'your covenant, torn down Your altars, 00:26:14.28\00:26:18.28 and killed Your prophets with the sword. 00:26:18.31\00:26:21.11 I alone am left and they seek to take my life.'" 00:26:21.14\00:26:26.10 Was it true that Elijah was the only one who was left? 00:26:26.13\00:26:29.18 No, because God tells him I have a remnant. 00:26:29.21\00:26:31.87 I have a faithful remnant 00:26:31.90\00:26:33.49 who has not bow the knee to Baal. 00:26:33.52\00:26:35.42 So we notice the remnant concept in this story. 00:26:35.45\00:26:39.52 Now, Elijah wanted to bring God's people 00:26:39.55\00:26:43.22 back to true worship, 00:26:43.25\00:26:45.62 back to the keeping of God's commandments. 00:26:45.65\00:26:47.80 I want you to notice that in 1 Kings 18:17, 18, 00:26:47.83\00:26:53.16 he rebuked false worship 00:26:53.19\00:26:55.05 and restored true worship of the Lord. 00:26:55.08\00:26:58.10 It says there, "Then it happened, 00:26:58.13\00:27:00.83 when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, 00:27:00.86\00:27:05.55 'Is that you, O troubler of Israel?' 00:27:05.58\00:27:09.67 And he answered, 'I have not troubled Israel, 00:27:09.70\00:27:12.98 but you and your father's house have,'" 00:27:13.01\00:27:16.20 now how were they trouble in Israel? 00:27:16.23\00:27:17.76 Notice, "'In that you have forsaken 00:27:17.79\00:27:22.13 the commandments of the Lord 00:27:22.16\00:27:24.27 and you have followed the Baals.'" 00:27:24.30\00:27:25.68 By the chapter 16:30, 31 00:27:25.71\00:27:28.72 says that follow the Baals means to worship the Baals. 00:27:28.75\00:27:32.90 In other words, we find in this text 00:27:32.93\00:27:35.11 that Elijah is rebuking the king 00:27:35.14\00:27:38.14 because the king encouraged by Jezebel 00:27:38.17\00:27:41.70 and the false prophets are actually worshipping Baal. 00:27:41.73\00:27:45.43 In other words, Elijah is attempting 00:27:45.46\00:27:47.69 to restore true worship to the Creator God. 00:27:47.72\00:27:52.50 Now, do you know that in scripture 00:27:52.53\00:27:54.75 it is impossible to talk about worship 00:27:54.78\00:27:57.13 without taking about the Creator? 00:27:57.16\00:27:59.62 Because, we worship God because he is the Creator. 00:27:59.65\00:28:02.28 Notice what we find in Psalm 95:6, 00:28:02.31\00:28:05.89 Psalm 95:6 very short verse but very meaningful. 00:28:05.92\00:28:10.93 It tells us why we are supposed to bow and worship God. 00:28:10.96\00:28:14.32 "Oh come, let us worship and bow down, 00:28:14.35\00:28:18.82 let us kneel before the Lord" our what? 00:28:18.85\00:28:22.07 "Our Maker." 00:28:22.10\00:28:23.27 Why do we worship? Because God is our what? 00:28:23.30\00:28:26.98 God is our maker. 00:28:27.01\00:28:28.21 Now, listen up, you cannot talk 00:28:28.24\00:28:30.71 about God being the maker 00:28:30.74\00:28:33.19 without talking about the Sabbath, 00:28:33.22\00:28:36.33 because the Sabbath is the sign of the Creator. 00:28:36.36\00:28:38.80 If Israel had kept the Sabbath 00:28:38.83\00:28:40.46 they would have never worshiped Baal. 00:28:40.49\00:28:42.48 How could be attribute creating power to Baal 00:28:42.51\00:28:45.39 if they had kept the Sabbath 00:28:45.42\00:28:46.99 which indicated that there was only one true Creator God, 00:28:47.02\00:28:50.61 the Creator of the heavens and the earth? 00:28:50.64\00:28:52.36 In fact, notice Revelation 14:6, 7, 00:28:52.39\00:28:56.10 how the idea of the Creator 00:28:56.13\00:28:58.40 and worship are linked together with the Sabbath 00:28:58.43\00:29:01.87 because the Sabbath is mentioned 00:29:01.90\00:29:03.36 at the conclusion of creation week. 00:29:03.39\00:29:05.38 It says there in Revelation 14:6, 00:29:05.41\00:29:08.43 "Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, 00:29:08.46\00:29:11.77 having the everlasting gospel to preach 00:29:11.80\00:29:13.83 to those who dwell on the earth 00:29:13.86\00:29:15.56 to every nation, tribe, tongue, 00:29:15.59\00:29:18.09 and people saying with a loud voice, 00:29:18.12\00:29:21.17 'Fear God and give glory to Him, 00:29:21.20\00:29:24.03 for the hour of His judgment has come'" 00:29:24.06\00:29:26.44 and now comes the key portion of the verse 00:29:26.47\00:29:28.29 that I want to underline "'and worship Him 00:29:28.32\00:29:31.16 who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.'" 00:29:31.19\00:29:35.47 By the way, that is a reference 00:29:35.50\00:29:37.06 to the fourth commandment of God's holy law 00:29:37.09\00:29:39.90 where we were told that we are suppose 00:29:39.93\00:29:41.62 to worship the Creator of the heaven the earth, 00:29:41.65\00:29:44.40 the sea and all that in them is. 00:29:44.43\00:29:47.67 So there is a clear link between worship, 00:29:47.70\00:29:51.47 the Creator and the Sabbath. 00:29:51.50\00:29:53.80 It becomes very obvious 00:29:53.83\00:29:55.33 that Israel was not keeping God's holy Sabbath or else, 00:29:55.36\00:29:59.07 they would never have been worshipping the sun god. 00:29:59.10\00:30:02.73 And so Elijah is called to rebuke false worship 00:30:02.76\00:30:06.12 and he is called to invite God's people 00:30:06.15\00:30:09.65 to return the worship of the Creator God 00:30:09.68\00:30:12.54 and the sign of the Creator God is the Sabbath. 00:30:12.57\00:30:16.59 But as we noticed in 1 Kings 18:18 00:30:16.62\00:30:19.77 Elijah was also called to restore 00:30:19.80\00:30:21.77 the commandments of God 00:30:21.80\00:30:23.29 not only rebuke false worship 00:30:23.32\00:30:25.58 and reinstitute true worship to the Creator God 00:30:25.61\00:30:28.97 but also to exalt the commandments of God, 00:30:29.00\00:30:31.32 particular the first table of the law, 00:30:31.35\00:30:33.70 the first four commandments 00:30:33.73\00:30:35.00 which have to do with worship to the Creator. 00:30:35.03\00:30:37.38 Notice 1 Kings 18:18 once again 00:30:37.41\00:30:40.92 here Elijah meets king Ahab and he says, 00:30:40.95\00:30:45.09 "I have not troubled Israel, 00:30:45.12\00:30:47.76 but you and your father's house have, 00:30:47.79\00:30:50.58 in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord 00:30:50.61\00:30:54.23 and you have followed the Baals." 00:30:54.26\00:30:56.99 Notice you have forsaken what? 00:30:57.02\00:30:58.93 The commandments of the Lord. 00:30:58.96\00:31:01.33 By the way, there is another commandment involved here 00:31:01.36\00:31:04.00 and that's the commandment of fornication or adultery, 00:31:04.03\00:31:07.30 Elijah is actually rebuking 00:31:07.33\00:31:09.64 the adulterous relationship between Ahab and Jezebel. 00:31:09.67\00:31:15.16 I want you to notice also that Elijah restored the true gospel. 00:31:15.19\00:31:18.72 He not only restored true worship, 00:31:18.75\00:31:20.91 he not only restored the commandments of God 00:31:20.94\00:31:23.46 but he also restored true worship. 00:31:23.49\00:31:27.04 Notice 1 Kings 18 and we will read verse 30 00:31:27.07\00:31:30.47 and then we will jump down to verse 36. 00:31:30.50\00:31:33.57 It says in verse 30 00:31:33.60\00:31:34.86 "Then Elijah said to all the people" 00:31:34.89\00:31:37.01 this is on Mount Carmel "'Come near to me.' 00:31:37.04\00:31:39.74 So all the people came near to him. 00:31:39.77\00:31:42.49 And he repaired the altar of the Lord 00:31:42.52\00:31:44.80 that was broken down. 00:31:44.83\00:31:46.75 And it came to pass," listen to this 00:31:46.78\00:31:48.60 "at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice," 00:31:48.63\00:31:51.75 which pointed to Jesus. 00:31:51.78\00:31:53.42 See there was a morning and evening sacrifice 00:31:53.45\00:31:55.37 which pointed to Christ. 00:31:55.40\00:31:57.37 "That Elijah the prophet came near and said, 00:31:57.40\00:31:59.78 'Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, 00:31:59.81\00:32:02.36 let it be known this day that You are God in Israel 00:32:02.39\00:32:06.50 and I am Your servant, 00:32:06.53\00:32:07.95 and that I have done all these things at Your word.'" 00:32:07.98\00:32:12.12 So he restores true worship and rebukes false worship, 00:32:12.15\00:32:15.58 he rebukes those who are trampling 00:32:15.61\00:32:17.12 on the commandment of God 00:32:17.15\00:32:18.67 and he invites God's people to keep the commandments. 00:32:18.70\00:32:21.50 He restores the true gospel of the sacrifice of the lamb 00:32:21.53\00:32:25.61 which represents the sacrifice of the Messiah. 00:32:25.64\00:32:28.19 And of course, his message went over 00:32:28.22\00:32:30.42 like the light balloon. 00:32:30.45\00:32:32.25 The Bible tells us that as a result 00:32:32.28\00:32:34.72 of God raising up Elijah the heavens were closed. 00:32:34.75\00:32:38.20 And because the heavens were closed 00:32:38.23\00:32:39.86 and it didn't rain there was sever feminine in the land. 00:32:39.89\00:32:44.44 I want you to notice 1 Kings 18:5 00:32:44.47\00:32:47.70 that this Famine was so bad the lack of rain 00:32:47.73\00:32:51.63 that cause the famine was so bad 00:32:51.66\00:32:53.58 that it reached even to the palace. 00:32:53.61\00:32:55.95 It says there "And Ahab had said to Obadiah, 00:32:55.98\00:32:59.74 'Go into the land to all the springs of water 00:32:59.77\00:33:02.63 and to all the brooks, perhaps we may find grass 00:33:02.66\00:33:06.23 to keep the horses and mules alive, 00:33:06.26\00:33:09.30 so that we will not have to kill any livestock.'" 00:33:09.33\00:33:13.88 So in other words that was this terrible period of famine 00:33:13.91\00:33:17.50 because of lack of rain. 00:33:17.53\00:33:18.94 And of course, 00:33:18.97\00:33:20.00 God had explained the reason for lack of rain. 00:33:20.03\00:33:22.60 Notice 2 Chronicles 7:13, 14 God had clearly explained 00:33:22.63\00:33:27.24 that if famine came there was a specific reason. 00:33:27.27\00:33:29.86 It wasn't because of the message of Elijah 00:33:29.89\00:33:32.51 it was because of the apostasy of Israel. 00:33:32.54\00:33:34.97 It says there, in 2 Chronicles 7:13 00:33:35.00\00:33:38.23 God is speaking "When I shut up heaven 00:33:38.26\00:33:40.85 and there is no rain, 00:33:40.88\00:33:42.72 or command the locusts to devour the land, 00:33:42.75\00:33:45.56 or send pestilence among My people, 00:33:45.59\00:33:48.33 if My people who are called by My name 00:33:48.36\00:33:51.62 will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, 00:33:51.65\00:33:56.46 and turn from their wicked ways, 00:33:56.49\00:33:58.77 then I will hear from heaven, 00:33:58.80\00:34:00.68 and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 00:34:00.71\00:34:04.38 God is saying it's because of apostasy 00:34:04.41\00:34:07.23 that famine comes and natural calamities and disasters come 00:34:07.26\00:34:12.23 and yet we find that in the story of Elijah, 00:34:12.26\00:34:15.21 Elijah was blamed for the calamities. 00:34:15.24\00:34:18.95 In fact, notice 1 Kings 18:17 00:34:18.98\00:34:22.22 which we read before but now let's look at it again. 00:34:22.25\00:34:25.32 When Elijah goes before Ahab, 00:34:25.35\00:34:27.99 Ahab there has a very interesting 00:34:28.02\00:34:29.79 reception for him. 00:34:29.82\00:34:31.45 It says there in 1 King 18:17 00:34:31.48\00:34:35.68 "Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, 00:34:35.71\00:34:39.93 that Ahab said to him, 00:34:39.96\00:34:42.22 'Is that you, O troubler of Israel?'" 00:34:42.25\00:34:46.74 In other words, all of our troubles 00:34:46.77\00:34:48.08 are due to your message, 00:34:48.11\00:34:49.59 because you don't accept Baal as God 00:34:49.62\00:34:52.46 and because you don't accept the influence of the king 00:34:52.49\00:34:55.59 and of this harlot woman Jezebel 00:34:55.62\00:34:58.45 and of the false prophets. 00:34:58.48\00:34:59.97 If you accept it our religion 00:35:00.00\00:35:02.00 all of our calamities would seize. 00:35:02.03\00:35:04.75 Prophets and Kings page 126 00:35:04.78\00:35:06.78 we can find an interesting comment on this. 00:35:06.81\00:35:10.32 "Jezebel utterly refused to recognize the drought 00:35:10.35\00:35:14.99 as a judgment from Jehovah. 00:35:15.02\00:35:17.38 Unyielding in her determination to defy the God of heaven, 00:35:17.41\00:35:21.57 she, with nearly the whole of Israel, 00:35:21.60\00:35:26.59 united in denouncing Elijah 00:35:26.62\00:35:29.12 as the cause of all their misery. 00:35:29.15\00:35:31.68 Had he not borne testimony against their forms of worship?" 00:35:31.71\00:35:36.01 Notice "Had he not born testimony 00:35:36.04\00:35:38.25 against their forms of worship. 00:35:38.28\00:35:40.54 If only he could be put out of the way, 00:35:40.57\00:35:43.26 she argued, the anger of their gods would be appeased, 00:35:43.29\00:35:46.67 and their troubles would end." 00:35:46.70\00:35:48.22 Remember that because we are gonna come 00:35:48.25\00:35:49.52 to all of these details in the Book of Revelation. 00:35:49.55\00:35:52.67 This is a striking typological story 00:35:52.70\00:35:55.18 that is gonna be fulfilled in the end time, 00:35:55.21\00:35:57.23 exactly the way we'll study it 00:35:57.26\00:35:59.59 from the Old Testament story. 00:35:59.62\00:36:01.89 I want you to notice that according to Jezebel 00:36:01.92\00:36:05.61 if they could kill Elijah prosperity would come back 00:36:05.64\00:36:09.99 because the gods would be appeased. 00:36:10.02\00:36:12.81 Back now let's 1 Kings 18:10 where it says, 00:36:12.84\00:36:17.12 that they sort Elijah where ever he might be found. 00:36:17.15\00:36:21.44 It says there "As the Lord your God lives, 00:36:21.47\00:36:25.00 there is no nation or kingdom 00:36:25.03\00:36:27.99 where my master has not sent someone to hunt for you 00:36:28.02\00:36:33.02 and when they said, 'He is not here,' 00:36:33.05\00:36:35.41 he took an oath from the kingdom or nation 00:36:35.44\00:36:38.22 that they could not find you." 00:36:38.25\00:36:39.47 In other words, he forced rulers 00:36:39.50\00:36:41.85 of different parts of the kingdom 00:36:41.88\00:36:43.51 to swear that they did not no where Elijah was 00:36:43.54\00:36:47.47 and that they had not seen Elijah. 00:36:47.50\00:36:49.62 In other words, they were seeking for Elijah 00:36:49.65\00:36:51.57 in every place in the kingdom 00:36:51.60\00:36:53.45 thinking that if they could get rid of him 00:36:53.48\00:36:55.89 the God's would be appeased 00:36:55.92\00:36:57.75 and prosperity would return. 00:36:57.78\00:37:00.45 Once again and Prophets and Kings 00:37:00.48\00:37:01.90 in this captivating chapter on Elijah 00:37:01.93\00:37:04.72 we find this remarkable statement. 00:37:04.75\00:37:07.39 "For three years the messenger of world 00:37:07.42\00:37:10.65 was shot for in city after city and nation after nation." 00:37:10.68\00:37:15.67 Notice not only in Israel but in other nations. 00:37:15.70\00:37:18.77 "At the mandate of Ahab, 00:37:18.80\00:37:20.89 many rulers had given their oath of honor 00:37:20.92\00:37:24.60 that the strange prophet could not be found in their dominions. 00:37:24.63\00:37:28.28 Yet the search was continued, 00:37:28.31\00:37:30.40 for Jezebel and the prophets of Baal 00:37:30.43\00:37:33.16 hated Elijah with a deadly hatred, 00:37:33.19\00:37:36.34 and they spared no effort to bring him 00:37:36.37\00:37:38.65 within reach of their power and still there was no rain." 00:37:38.68\00:37:43.58 Interestingly enough Elijah had to flee 00:37:43.61\00:37:46.48 to the desert or to the wilderness 00:37:46.51\00:37:49.58 when they were seeking Him. 00:37:49.61\00:37:51.42 Notice 1 Kings 17:1- 7. 00:37:51.45\00:37:55.40 Interestingly enough not only did he flee to the desert 00:37:55.43\00:37:58.56 or to the wilderness but in the wilderness 00:37:58.59\00:38:00.95 he was sustained by God. 00:38:00.98\00:38:03.06 Don't forget that. 00:38:03.09\00:38:04.44 It says in 1 King 17:1 00:38:04.47\00:38:07.27 "And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitance of Gilead, 00:38:07.30\00:38:11.59 said to Ahab, 00:38:11.62\00:38:13.23 'As the Lord God of Israel lives, 00:38:13.26\00:38:15.71 before whom I stand, 00:38:15.74\00:38:17.53 there shall not be dew nor rain these years, 00:38:17.56\00:38:21.13 except at my word.' 00:38:21.16\00:38:23.00 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 00:38:23.03\00:38:25.22 'Get away from here and turn eastward, 00:38:25.25\00:38:27.88 and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 00:38:27.91\00:38:32.06 And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, 00:38:32.09\00:38:35.56 and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.'" 00:38:35.59\00:38:39.30 Notice God commanded the ravens to feed him. 00:38:39.33\00:38:42.28 Continue saying, 00:38:42.31\00:38:43.34 "So he went and did according to the word of the Lord 00:38:43.37\00:38:46.78 for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, 00:38:46.81\00:38:49.62 which flows into the Jordan. 00:38:49.65\00:38:51.69 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, 00:38:51.72\00:38:55.84 and bread and meat in the evening, 00:38:55.87\00:38:58.31 and he drank from the brook. 00:38:58.34\00:39:00.23 And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, 00:39:00.26\00:39:03.83 because there had been no rain in the land." 00:39:03.86\00:39:07.33 So Elijah persecuted fleece to the wilderness 00:39:07.36\00:39:11.42 and in the wilderness he has sustained 00:39:11.45\00:39:14.07 by a miracle of God. 00:39:14.10\00:39:16.00 By the way a very important detail 00:39:16.03\00:39:17.89 that I want you to notice is 00:39:17.92\00:39:19.57 that Elijah is on earth during this Tribulation Period. 00:39:19.60\00:39:24.56 He is on earth when the death decry is given. 00:39:24.59\00:39:27.40 He goes through the tribulation. 00:39:27.43\00:39:29.74 You need to remember this 00:39:29.77\00:39:30.89 because when we come to the end time application 00:39:30.92\00:39:33.34 we got to find that God's people 00:39:33.37\00:39:34.74 who'll be translated from this world 00:39:34.77\00:39:36.50 from among the living will go through the tribulation, 00:39:36.53\00:39:39.26 they will face the death decry remaining on planet earth 00:39:39.29\00:39:43.41 before they are translated to heaven. 00:39:43.44\00:39:46.90 And so now we move on to Mount Carmel, 00:39:46.93\00:39:49.20 up to this point Elijah's message 00:39:49.23\00:39:51.16 had not had much effect on the people. 00:39:51.19\00:39:55.45 In fact, we're going to notice 00:39:55.48\00:39:57.24 that when Elijah calls in for a decision 00:39:57.27\00:39:59.69 they don't even answer him a word. 00:39:59.72\00:40:01.52 Let's read that 1 Kings 18:21. 00:40:01.55\00:40:05.04 See they were limping between two opinions. 00:40:05.07\00:40:07.39 It says, there in verse 21 00:40:07.42\00:40:10.20 "And Elijah came to all the people, and said, 00:40:10.23\00:40:13.97 'How long will you falter between two opinions? 00:40:14.00\00:40:18.58 If the Lord is God, follow Him but if Baal, follow him.'" 00:40:18.61\00:40:22.89 Is he calling for a clear cut decision 00:40:22.92\00:40:24.77 between the Creator God and the sun god? 00:40:24.80\00:40:27.07 Remember that issue 00:40:27.10\00:40:28.13 between true Creator God and the sun god. 00:40:28.16\00:40:31.87 And the people said, oh we accept the Lord. 00:40:31.90\00:40:34.14 No they didn't. 00:40:34.17\00:40:35.29 It says in the last part of the verse. 00:40:35.32\00:40:37.39 "But the people answered him not a word." 00:40:37.42\00:40:42.98 His message had no power at that moment. 00:40:43.01\00:40:45.62 We are gonna notice that when the fire came from heaven 00:40:45.65\00:40:47.93 there was power that convicted the people. 00:40:47.96\00:40:50.84 Once again for Prophets and Kings page 147 00:40:50.87\00:40:53.94 we find this remarkable statement, 00:40:53.97\00:40:56.13 "Facing King Ahab and the false prophets, 00:40:56.16\00:40:59.35 and surrounded by the assembled hosts of Israel, 00:40:59.38\00:41:02.78 Elijah stands, the only one who has appeared 00:41:02.81\00:41:07.04 to vindicate the honor of Jehovah. 00:41:07.07\00:41:10.04 He whom the whole kingdom has charged 00:41:10.07\00:41:12.90 with its weight of woe is now before them, 00:41:12.93\00:41:16.42 apparently defenseless in the presence 00:41:16.45\00:41:19.26 of the monarch of Israel, 00:41:19.29\00:41:20.80 the prophets of Baal, the men of war, 00:41:20.83\00:41:23.93 and the surrounding thousands. 00:41:23.96\00:41:26.19 But Elijah is not alone. 00:41:26.22\00:41:29.04 Above and around him 00:41:29.07\00:41:30.95 are the protecting hosts of heaven, 00:41:30.98\00:41:33.70 angels that excel in strength." 00:41:33.73\00:41:37.08 In other words, his work is performed 00:41:37.11\00:41:39.23 through the ministration of angels 00:41:39.26\00:41:41.19 there was no one on planet earth not the king, 00:41:41.22\00:41:43.85 not the harlot, not the false prophets 00:41:43.88\00:41:46.08 who could touch the servant of the Lord 00:41:46.11\00:41:48.55 when he went to Mount Carmel. 00:41:48.58\00:41:50.87 By the way, have you ever noticed the worship style 00:41:50.90\00:41:54.74 of the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel? 00:41:54.77\00:41:57.86 Let's just read that quickly 1 Kings 18:26-29 00:41:57.89\00:42:02.28 we're gonna contrast that with a worship style of Elijah. 00:42:02.31\00:42:04.98 It's a different kind of worship style. 00:42:05.01\00:42:06.88 Very serene, and calm and solemn and reverent. 00:42:06.91\00:42:11.76 The prophets of Baal were very irreverent. 00:42:11.79\00:42:14.22 They shouted and they jumped. 00:42:14.25\00:42:16.18 Notice what it says in verse 26." 00:42:16.21\00:42:18.50 So they took the bull 00:42:18.53\00:42:21.10 which was given them, and they prepared it, 00:42:21.13\00:42:23.48 and called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, 00:42:23.51\00:42:26.87 saying, 'O Baal, hear us!' 00:42:26.90\00:42:30.04 But there was no voice, no one answered. 00:42:30.07\00:42:32.76 And they leaped about the altar which they had made. 00:42:32.79\00:42:36.68 And so it was, at noon, 00:42:36.71\00:42:38.02 that Elijah mocked them and said, 'Cry aloud, 00:42:38.05\00:42:40.73 for he is a god, either he is meditating, 00:42:40.76\00:42:43.66 or he is busy, or he is on a journey'" 00:42:43.69\00:42:46.69 I guess he had a sense of humor. 00:42:46.72\00:42:48.17 "'Or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened.' 00:42:48.20\00:42:52.07 So they cried aloud," 00:42:52.10\00:42:53.40 notice "Cut themselves, 00:42:53.43\00:42:55.67 as was their custom, with knives and lances, 00:42:55.70\00:42:58.28 until the blood gushed out on them. 00:42:58.31\00:43:01.37 And when midday was past, they prophesied 00:43:01.40\00:43:04.29 until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice. 00:43:04.32\00:43:06.96 But there was no voice 00:43:06.99\00:43:08.47 no one answered, no one paid attention." 00:43:08.50\00:43:10.98 No notice the contrast with Elijah's worship style. 00:43:11.01\00:43:14.97 This is found in verses 36 and 37, 00:43:15.00\00:43:17.60 little bit further down the chapter. 00:43:17.63\00:43:19.44 It says, "And it came to pass, 00:43:19.47\00:43:21.44 at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, 00:43:21.47\00:43:24.28 that Elijah the prophet came near and said, 00:43:24.31\00:43:27.80 'Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, 00:43:27.83\00:43:31.84 let it be known this day that You are God in Israel 00:43:31.87\00:43:35.32 and I'm Your servant, 00:43:35.35\00:43:37.01 and that I have done all these things at Your word. 00:43:37.04\00:43:41.00 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, 00:43:41.03\00:43:43.89 that this people may know that You are the Lord God, 00:43:43.92\00:43:47.86 and that You have turned their hearts 00:43:47.89\00:43:50.36 back to You again.'" 00:43:50.39\00:43:53.03 Very simple prayer, reverent, sincere, 00:43:53.06\00:43:58.89 no shouting, no jumping, no crying out, 00:43:58.92\00:44:04.77 a simple calm serene prayer. 00:44:04.80\00:44:09.24 And then the spectacular happened 00:44:09.27\00:44:11.96 his message had had no effect up to this moment 00:44:11.99\00:44:15.32 but when the message is joined by the fire from heaven 00:44:15.35\00:44:18.78 suddenly his message has convicting power. 00:44:18.81\00:44:21.91 We are gonna notice later on that in Revelation 18 00:44:21.94\00:44:24.41 you have a message that comes from heaven. 00:44:24.44\00:44:26.31 The whole earth is illumined with His glory 00:44:26.34\00:44:28.72 through the power of the Holy Spirit, 00:44:28.75\00:44:30.26 fire represents the Holy Spirit. 00:44:30.29\00:44:32.77 Notice 1 Kings 18:38, 39. 00:44:32.80\00:44:36.43 It says, "Then the fire of the Lord fell 00:44:36.46\00:44:38.88 and consumed the burnt sacrifice, 00:44:38.91\00:44:41.05 and the wood and the stones and the dust, 00:44:41.08\00:44:44.17 and it licked up the water that was in the trench." 00:44:44.20\00:44:47.13 And now notice, 00:44:47.16\00:44:48.22 "Now when all the people saw it, 00:44:48.25\00:44:50.27 they fell on their faces; and they said, 00:44:50.30\00:44:52.55 'The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!'" 00:44:52.58\00:44:57.19 Do you seem them the message 00:44:57.22\00:44:58.84 with a fire from heaven has convicting power. 00:44:58.87\00:45:03.05 And now Israel is led away from their deception 00:45:03.08\00:45:06.85 and they are lead to the true God. 00:45:06.88\00:45:10.45 Prophets and Kings, pages 152 and 153 00:45:10.48\00:45:13.81 describes this scene in the following way. 00:45:13.84\00:45:17.61 "No sooner is the prayer of Elijah ended 00:45:17.64\00:45:21.14 than flames of fire, 00:45:21.17\00:45:23.10 like brilliant flashes of lightning, 00:45:23.13\00:45:25.69 descend from heaven upon the up reared altar, 00:45:25.72\00:45:29.52 consuming the sacrifice, 00:45:29.55\00:45:31.45 licking up the water in the trench, 00:45:31.48\00:45:33.42 and consuming even the stones of the altar. 00:45:33.45\00:45:36.47 The brilliancy of the blaze illumines the mountain 00:45:36.50\00:45:40.02 and dazzles the eyes of the multitude." 00:45:40.05\00:45:43.41 Notice that the mountain is filled 00:45:43.44\00:45:45.62 with glory with dazzling light. 00:45:45.65\00:45:48.68 She continues saying "In the valleys below, 00:45:48.71\00:45:50.94 where many are watching in anxious suspense 00:45:50.97\00:45:54.12 the movements of those above, 00:45:54.15\00:45:57.13 the descent of fire is clearly seen, 00:45:57.16\00:45:59.65 and all are amazed at the sight. 00:45:59.68\00:46:02.34 It resembles the pillar of fire 00:46:02.37\00:46:04.57 which at the Red Sea separated the children of Israel 00:46:04.60\00:46:08.40 from the Egyptian host." 00:46:08.43\00:46:11.99 Now we can't conclude our study 00:46:12.02\00:46:13.63 without noticing the end 00:46:13.66\00:46:15.29 of Ahab, Jezebel, and the false prophets. 00:46:15.32\00:46:18.76 Let's talk first of all about how the false prophets 00:46:18.79\00:46:22.58 ended their existence on planet earth. 00:46:22.61\00:46:25.94 1 Kings 18:40 tells us, "That the Israelites themselves" 00:46:25.97\00:46:31.82 I want you to remember this 00:46:31.85\00:46:33.28 "That the Israelites themselves 00:46:33.31\00:46:35.40 laid hands on the false profits and sue them. 00:46:35.43\00:46:39.60 It says there in 1 Kings 18:40 "And Elijah said to them" 00:46:39.63\00:46:44.12 that is to the people that were gathered on Mount Carmel 00:46:44.15\00:46:47.09 "'Seize the prophets of Baal! 00:46:47.12\00:46:49.23 Do not let one of them escape!' 00:46:49.26\00:46:52.32 So they seize them and Elijah brought them down 00:46:52.35\00:46:56.00 to the Brook Kishon and executed then there." 00:46:56.03\00:46:59.98 They were actually executed by Elijah 00:47:00.01\00:47:02.12 and by the congregation which had been the deceived 00:47:02.15\00:47:05.46 by this threefold alliance. 00:47:05.49\00:47:07.29 Once again Prophets And Kings pages 153 and 154 00:47:07.32\00:47:10.67 provide some insight into this experience. 00:47:10.70\00:47:14.28 "The priest of Baal witness with consternation 00:47:14.31\00:47:18.46 the wonderful revelation of Jehovah's power." 00:47:18.49\00:47:22.13 And now notice this 00:47:22.16\00:47:23.36 "Yet even in their own discomfiture 00:47:23.39\00:47:27.75 and in the presence of divine glory, 00:47:27.78\00:47:30.92 they refuse to repent of their evil doing." 00:47:30.95\00:47:35.03 The people repented but the prophets didn't. 00:47:35.06\00:47:37.96 They admit that they have deceived the people 00:47:37.99\00:47:39.76 but they refused to repent, she continues saying. 00:47:39.79\00:47:42.95 "Thus they show themselves ripe for destruction. 00:47:42.98\00:47:47.63 That repentant Israel may be protected from the allurements 00:47:47.66\00:47:51.33 of those who have taught them to worship Baal, 00:47:51.36\00:47:54.57 Elijah is directed by the Lord 00:47:54.60\00:47:56.61 to destroy these false teachers." 00:47:56.64\00:47:58.45 Remember that expression, false teachers. 00:47:58.48\00:48:01.63 "The anger of the people has already been aroused 00:48:01.66\00:48:06.52 against the leaders in transgression." 00:48:06.55\00:48:08.29 Notice, those who admire the most 00:48:08.32\00:48:10.84 raise their hands against them now. 00:48:10.87\00:48:13.00 All of this is symbolic 00:48:13.03\00:48:14.08 of what's gonna happen at the end. 00:48:14.11\00:48:16.35 "And when Elijah gives the command, 00:48:16.38\00:48:18.15 'Take the prophets of Baal, 00:48:18.18\00:48:19.82 let not one of them escape,' 00:48:19.85\00:48:21.96 they are ready to obey. 00:48:21.99\00:48:24.19 They seize the priests, 00:48:24.22\00:48:26.14 and take them to the Brook Kishon, 00:48:26.17\00:48:28.27 and there, before the close of the day 00:48:28.30\00:48:31.15 that marked the beginning of decided reform, 00:48:31.18\00:48:33.82 the ministers of Baal are slain. 00:48:33.85\00:48:37.29 Not one of them is permitted to live." 00:48:37.32\00:48:41.53 The very people that have been deceived 00:48:41.56\00:48:43.65 raise their hands to destroy the false prophets of Baal. 00:48:43.68\00:48:47.45 Now let's talk about the end of Ahab 00:48:47.48\00:48:49.49 and the end of Jezebel. 00:48:49.52\00:48:50.90 Very interesting description 1 Kings 21:23, 24. 00:48:50.93\00:48:56.99 Do you know that the blood of Ahab 00:48:57.02\00:48:58.60 was actually licked up by wild dogs? 00:48:58.63\00:49:02.72 Notice 1 kings 21: 23, 24. 00:49:02.75\00:49:05.57 This is a prophecy about the end of Ahab 00:49:05.60\00:49:08.00 and the end of Jezebel 00:49:08.03\00:49:09.49 it says, "And concerned Jezebel the Lord also spoke saying 00:49:09.52\00:49:15.63 'The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.'" 00:49:15.66\00:49:21.04 What was gonna happen with Jezebel? 00:49:21.07\00:49:22.26 She is gonna be eaten by what? 00:49:22.29\00:49:23.85 By dogs. 00:49:23.88\00:49:25.68 "The dog shall eat whoever belongs to Ahab 00:49:25.71\00:49:29.37 and dies in the city 00:49:29.40\00:49:30.96 and the birds of the airs 00:49:30.99\00:49:32.49 shall eat whoever dies in the field." 00:49:32.52\00:49:34.39 Notice they would be consumed by dogs 00:49:34.42\00:49:36.91 and by the birds of the air. 00:49:36.94\00:49:38.25 Does that bring a bell 00:49:38.28\00:49:39.63 when it comes to Revelation Chapter 19? 00:49:39.66\00:49:43.16 It most certainly does. 00:49:43.19\00:49:44.85 Now it's read about the end Ahab. 00:49:44.88\00:49:46.24 This was a prophecy. 00:49:46.27\00:49:47.32 Let's read about the description of his end. 00:49:47.35\00:49:49.81 1 Kings 22:37, 38 1 Kings 22:37, 38. 00:49:49.84\00:49:55.21 It says "So the king died, 00:49:55.24\00:49:57.53 and was brought to Samaria. 00:49:57.56\00:49:59.89 And they buried the king in Samaria." 00:49:59.92\00:50:01.72 But there is more to the story. 00:50:01.75\00:50:03.36 "Then someone washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria, 00:50:03.39\00:50:07.26 and the dogs licked up his blood 00:50:07.29\00:50:10.63 while the harlots bathed, 00:50:10.66\00:50:12.76 according to the word of the Lord 00:50:12.79\00:50:14.59 which He had spoken." 00:50:14.62\00:50:15.83 Notice the dogs lick up his blood. 00:50:15.86\00:50:18.78 Now what about the end of Jezebel? 00:50:18.81\00:50:21.02 Also consumed by wild dogs and by the birds of the air. 00:50:21.05\00:50:25.40 Notice 2 Kings 9:8, 9 it says, 00:50:25.43\00:50:29.87 "For the whole house of Ahab shell parish 00:50:29.90\00:50:33.14 and I will cut off from Ahab all the males 00:50:33.17\00:50:35.97 in Israel both bond and free. 00:50:36.00\00:50:38.66 So I will make the house of Ahab 00:50:38.69\00:50:40.82 like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, 00:50:40.85\00:50:43.73 and like the house of Baasha the son of a Ahijah. 00:50:43.76\00:50:47.21 The dog shall eat Jezebel on the plot of ground at Jezreel 00:50:47.24\00:50:52.34 and there shall be none to bury her." 00:50:52.37\00:50:56.49 Interesting that's exactly 00:50:56.52\00:50:57.63 what's gonna happen during the millennium. 00:50:57.66\00:50:59.44 "And he open the door and fled." 00:50:59.47\00:51:02.78 Now this is a prophecy 00:51:02.81\00:51:04.13 but let's read about how it actually happened. 00:51:04.16\00:51:07.30 2 Kings 9:30 00:51:07.33\00:51:11.42 "Now when Jehu had come to Jezreel, 00:51:11.45\00:51:13.87 Jezebel heard of it" and notice what she did, 00:51:13.90\00:51:17.44 "and she put paint on her eyes 00:51:17.47\00:51:20.47 and adorned her head" 00:51:20.50\00:51:23.05 does she have adorning? 00:51:23.08\00:51:24.72 She fixed herself up like a harlot, most certainly. 00:51:24.75\00:51:27.89 "And looked through a window. 00:51:27.92\00:51:29.39 Then, as Jehu entered at the gate, 00:51:29.42\00:51:31.35 she said, 'Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of your master?"" 00:51:31.38\00:51:35.12 see she thinks she's gonna continue 00:51:35.15\00:51:36.81 using the new king of Israel Jehu, 00:51:36.84\00:51:39.92 but she's gonna be greatly surprised. 00:51:39.95\00:51:42.39 Notice what we find in verse 32. 00:51:42.42\00:51:44.79 "And he looked up at the window, and said, 00:51:44.82\00:51:47.00 'Who is on my side? Who?' 00:51:47.03\00:51:51.68 So two or three eunuchs looked out at him. 00:51:51.71\00:51:55.38 Then he said, 'Throw her down.'" 00:51:55.41\00:51:58.69 Does Babylon have a fall in the Book of Revelation? 00:51:58.72\00:52:01.68 I'm just giving you some indications 00:52:01.71\00:52:03.12 of where we're going with this. 00:52:03.15\00:52:04.91 "Then he said, 'Threw her down.' 00:52:04.94\00:52:06.93 So they threw her down, 00:52:06.96\00:52:09.07 and some of her blood spattered on the wall" 00:52:09.10\00:52:11.90 and now notice, "and on the horses" 00:52:11.93\00:52:14.45 Revelation 14 will pick this up 00:52:14.48\00:52:16.40 "and he trampled her underfoot." 00:52:16.43\00:52:19.69 See the horses trample her 00:52:19.72\00:52:21.84 and the blood splatters on to the horses. 00:52:21.87\00:52:25.11 It continue says, 00:52:25.14\00:52:26.35 "And when he had gone in, he ate and drank. 00:52:26.38\00:52:30.36 Then he said, 'Go now, see to this accursed woman, 00:52:30.39\00:52:33.75 and bury her, for she was a king's daughter.' 00:52:33.78\00:52:36.55 So they went to bury her, 00:52:36.58\00:52:38.12 but they found no more of her than the skull 00:52:38.15\00:52:41.23 and the feet and the palms of her hands. 00:52:41.26\00:52:44.99 Therefore they came back and told him. 00:52:45.02\00:52:47.00 And he said, 'This is the word of the Lord, 00:52:47.03\00:52:49.65 which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 00:52:49.68\00:52:53.96 On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs 00:52:53.99\00:52:57.40 shall eat the flesh of Jezebel 00:52:57.43\00:53:00.12 and the corpse of Jezebel shall be as refuse 00:53:00.15\00:53:03.52 on the surface of the field, in the plot at Jezreel, 00:53:03.55\00:53:06.83 so that they shall not say, "Here lies Jezebel."" 00:53:06.86\00:53:12.01 Do you know that the death of these individuals 00:53:12.04\00:53:14.28 actually was God's way of avenging the death 00:53:14.31\00:53:17.57 of His servants the prophets? 00:53:17.60\00:53:19.79 Notice 2 Kings 9:7 00:53:19.82\00:53:21.63 remember the terminology of all of this 00:53:21.66\00:53:23.77 because we are gonna come back to it. 00:53:23.80\00:53:25.35 You see this is all typological. 00:53:25.38\00:53:27.41 It's symbolic of future events. 00:53:27.44\00:53:30.62 2 Kings 9:7, 00:53:30.65\00:53:33.26 "You shall strike down the house of Ahab your master" 00:53:33.29\00:53:38.11 and now notice the reason, "that I may" what? 00:53:38.14\00:53:42.59 "Avenge the blood" 00:53:42.62\00:53:46.19 this will be picked up in Revelation 19 00:53:46.22\00:53:48.26 "That I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, 00:53:48.29\00:53:53.07 and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, 00:53:53.10\00:53:56.52 at the hand of Jezebel." 00:53:56.55\00:54:00.29 Now we have two final points 00:54:00.32\00:54:01.72 that I want to cover with you before we end, 00:54:01.75\00:54:05.03 and that is that there was a delay 00:54:05.06\00:54:08.09 after the Mount Carmel experience 00:54:08.12\00:54:09.75 and after the death decry which was given by Jezebel. 00:54:09.78\00:54:12.90 There was a delay 00:54:12.93\00:54:14.48 in the coming of Christ to pick up Elijah. 00:54:14.51\00:54:19.31 Noticed 1 Kings 18:43, 44. 00:54:19.34\00:54:22.92 Have you ever read in the Spirit of Prophecy about that 00:54:22.95\00:54:25.72 that cloud about half the size of a man's hand 00:54:25.75\00:54:28.34 that she talks about, where does she get that from? 00:54:28.37\00:54:31.07 Well let's notice 1 Kings 18:43, 44 00:54:31.10\00:54:35.14 "And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel 00:54:35.17\00:54:38.42 then he bowed down on the ground, 00:54:38.45\00:54:40.38 and put his face between his knees, 00:54:40.41\00:54:42.71 and said to his servant, 00:54:42.74\00:54:44.42 'Go up now, look toward the sea.' 00:54:44.45\00:54:47.77 So he went up and looked, and said, 'There is nothing.' 00:54:47.80\00:54:51.79 And seven times he said, 'Go again.' 00:54:51.82\00:54:55.70 Then it came to pass the seventh time, 00:54:55.73\00:54:58.56 that he said, 'There is a cloud, 00:54:58.59\00:55:01.88 as small as a man's hand, rising out of the sea!' 00:55:01.91\00:55:08.42 So he said, 'Go up, say to Ahab, prepare your chariot, 00:55:08.45\00:55:12.68 and go down before the rain stops you.'" 00:55:12.71\00:55:17.00 Notice a cloud like a man's hand is seen the seventh time. 00:55:17.03\00:55:22.67 And by the way, that cloud was an indication 00:55:22.70\00:55:25.20 that rain was coming 00:55:25.23\00:55:26.53 but it was also an indication 00:55:26.56\00:55:28.33 that Elijah was going to be translated 00:55:28.36\00:55:31.09 from among the living. 00:55:31.12\00:55:33.08 In fact, let's notice the description 00:55:33.11\00:55:35.12 that the Bible gives of the translation of Elijah. 00:55:35.15\00:55:39.50 2 Kings 2: 11, 12 after he went through the tribulation, 00:55:39.53\00:55:44.45 after he face this triple alliance, 00:55:44.48\00:55:46.73 after he presented the message with boldness, 00:55:46.76\00:55:49.46 after the fire from heaven came down 00:55:49.49\00:55:51.83 and united with his message 00:55:51.86\00:55:53.35 and brought conviction to Israel, 00:55:53.38\00:55:55.93 after Jezebel and Ahab and the prophets of Baal, 00:55:55.96\00:55:58.89 have perished we have a combination 00:55:58.92\00:56:02.65 of a story of Elijah in 2 Kings 2:11, 12. 00:56:02.68\00:56:08.00 He is translated to heaven from among the living. 00:56:08.03\00:56:11.28 It says there, "Then it happened, 00:56:11.31\00:56:13.88 as they continued on and talked" 00:56:13.91\00:56:17.91 this is Elijah and Elisha "that suddenly a chariot 00:56:17.94\00:56:23.31 of fire appeared with horses of fire" don't forget this 00:56:23.34\00:56:29.05 because in the book Great Controversy 00:56:29.08\00:56:31.00 we are gonna find that when Jesus comes the second time 00:56:31.03\00:56:33.20 He is coming with a chariot to pick up His people. 00:56:33.23\00:56:36.17 "Then it happened, as they continued 00:56:36.20\00:56:37.52 on and talked that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared 00:56:37.55\00:56:40.26 with horses of fire and separated the two of them 00:56:40.29\00:56:44.83 and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 00:56:44.86\00:56:50.72 And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, 00:56:50.75\00:56:53.56 'My father, my father, 00:56:53.59\00:56:55.73 the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!' 00:56:55.76\00:56:59.12 So he saw him no more. 00:56:59.15\00:57:02.33 And he took hold of his own clothes 00:57:02.36\00:57:04.83 and tore them into two pieces." 00:57:04.86\00:57:08.07 And so the story of Elijah ends 00:57:08.10\00:57:13.12 but it doesn't end because Malachi 4 00:57:13.15\00:57:16.11 as we are gonna see in our next study says, 00:57:16.14\00:57:19.04 that before the great and terrible day 00:57:19.07\00:57:21.31 of the Lord God will once again send Elijah. 00:57:21.34\00:57:26.05 Don't miss the next exciting study. 00:57:26.08\00:57:29.34
