[Music] 00:00:00.26\00:00:10.27 [Music] 00:00:10.27\00:00:20.95 >>TY: Revelation chapter 14 is an extremely significant 00:00:20.95\00:00:24.12 chapter in the overall scheme of things in Revelation and 00:00:24.12\00:00:29.02 there are a number of reasons why it's so significant, but 00:00:29.02\00:00:32.16 first of all, we've just come out of chapters 12 and 13, 00:00:32.16\00:00:36.97 where there's been significant history that's been delineated 00:00:36.97\00:00:40.40 for us. 00:00:40.40\00:00:41.57 We've moved from the time of Christ, where he is brought 00:00:41.57\00:00:45.41 into the world through the woman, Christ is crucified, he 00:00:45.41\00:00:49.31 ascends in victory over Satan and the satanic regime by 00:00:49.31\00:00:54.78 self-sacrificing love. 00:00:54.78\00:00:57.15 Then, in chapter 12, we have a hint, in chapter 12 and verse 00:00:57.15\00:01:02.82 11 that the church of God will overcome, continue the 00:01:02.82\00:01:07.86 overcoming enterprise of Christ. 00:01:07.86\00:01:10.20 >>DAVID: I like that. 00:01:10.20\00:01:11.40 >>TY: Will overcome the devil by the blood of the Lamb and 00:01:11.40\00:01:14.60 the word of their testimony and love not their lives to 00:01:14.60\00:01:17.77 the point of death. 00:01:17.77\00:01:19.01 That's just a little snapshot of the fact that the church of 00:01:19.01\00:01:21.44 God will be bearing testimony. 00:01:21.44\00:01:23.31 The church of God will be giving a message. 00:01:23.31\00:01:25.31 The church of God will be speaking in the world. 00:01:25.31\00:01:29.12 And then, as we came to the conclusion of chapter 12 and 00:01:29.12\00:01:32.79 verse 17, you remember we saw that again, the church of God 00:01:32.79\00:01:36.86 and the end time portion of human history is identified as 00:01:36.86\00:01:40.83 under the rage, the wrath of the dragon, but they bear the 00:01:40.83\00:01:44.93 testimony of Jesus, they have a message to give, they keep 00:01:44.93\00:01:48.54 the commandments of God, and they have the testimony of 00:01:48.54\00:01:51.14 Jesus. 00:01:51.14\00:01:52.07 So, again, there's an indication, but it's 00:01:52.07\00:01:54.74 abbreviated. 00:01:54.74\00:01:55.81 They just, keep the commandments of God, they have 00:01:55.81\00:01:57.75 the testimony of Jesus, but it's not elaborated on. 00:01:57.75\00:02:00.32 Then, when we come to chapter 13, we have the sea beast 00:02:00.32\00:02:03.39 identified, the land beast identified, the mark of the 00:02:03.39\00:02:06.19 beast mentioned, okay. 00:02:06.19\00:02:08.89 Then, when we come to chapter 14, the people of God are 00:02:08.89\00:02:13.06 described in greater detail now, both their character and 00:02:13.06\00:02:17.67 how they interact with the powers of the world around 00:02:17.67\00:02:21.90 them, in verses 1-5, and then, in verses 6-12, it describes a 00:02:21.90\00:02:29.94 series of three crucial messages that they give, which 00:02:29.94\00:02:34.98 is kind of like panning out now in a bigger picture of 00:02:34.98\00:02:38.72 what 12:11 and 17 mentioned. 00:02:38.72\00:02:41.16 And so, you have the message that they give in the world, 00:02:41.16\00:02:44.23 which then brings on or initiates or precipitates 00:02:44.23\00:02:49.00 world events so that, according to verses 14-20 of 00:02:49.00\00:02:53.47 Revelation 14, the world comes to maturity. 00:02:53.47\00:02:56.64 Both good and evil come to mature manifestations and the 00:02:56.64\00:03:00.84 earth is prepared for harvest. 00:03:00.84\00:03:03.81 >>DAVID: That was an awesome summary. 00:03:03.81\00:03:06.15 That was outstanding. 00:03:06.15\00:03:07.55 >>TY: So, where we're at, then with chapter 14, is verses 1-5 00:03:07.55\00:03:11.75 is where we'll begin, is a description of the people of 00:03:11.75\00:03:16.32 God in the world. 00:03:16.32\00:03:17.73 So, let's begin there and then, we'll break down the 00:03:17.73\00:03:19.73 messages. 00:03:19.73\00:03:20.83 >>DAVID: So, we have said, repeatedly, in this series 00:03:20.83\00:03:22.70 that Revelation 12, 13, and 14 is the interpretive lens 00:03:22.70\00:03:25.67 through which Revelation is viewed. 00:03:25.67\00:03:27.67 That summary that you just gave right there was 00:03:27.67\00:03:29.67 outstanding. 00:03:29.67\00:03:31.01 That's the point, that you have these picture motifs and 00:03:31.01\00:03:36.28 we've dealt with Revelation 12, which is sort of the back 00:03:36.28\00:03:38.28 story, Revelation 13 is sort of the front story, here's 00:03:38.28\00:03:40.18 these two powers, Revelation 14, which I had never even 00:03:40.18\00:03:43.79 seen before, the tie-in with 12:11, they overcame by the 00:03:43.79\00:03:48.39 blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, and then 00:03:48.39\00:03:50.29 they had the testimony of Jesus, verse 17, that that is 00:03:50.29\00:03:53.40 then further expanded or explicated in 14. 00:03:53.40\00:03:57.07 >>TY: That's right. 00:03:57.07\00:03:58.73 >>DAVID: Alright. 00:03:59.03\00:04:00.24 That's all I needed out of this session, you guys carry 00:04:00.24\00:04:01.24 on, I'll be thinking about that. 00:04:01.24\00:04:02.87 That's awesome. 00:04:02.87\00:04:04.04 >>TY: Why don't you, just for speed here, so we can move 00:04:04.04\00:04:06.84 into the text, would you just read through verses 1-5? 00:04:06.84\00:04:10.48 >>JAMES: I like that. 00:04:10.48\00:04:11.71 David, just for speed, just so we can move through the text, 00:04:11.71\00:04:15.42 you read, David. 00:04:15.42\00:04:16.85 You read. 00:04:16.85\00:04:17.85 >>TY: So, read verses 1-5. 00:04:17.85\00:04:20.66 >>JAMES: Purity and the clarity. 00:04:20.66\00:04:21.79 >>DAVID: Okay, I'll strive for it. 00:04:21.79\00:04:23.09 Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, 00:04:23.09\00:04:25.03 and with Him 144,000, having His Father's name written on 00:04:25.03\00:04:27.86 their foreheads. 00:04:27.86\00:04:28.93 And I heard a voice from heaven, like the voice of many 00:04:28.93\00:04:30.83 waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. 00:04:30.83\00:04:32.83 And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps. 00:04:32.83\00:04:35.77 They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before 00:04:35.77\00:04:38.04 the four living creatures, and the elders, and no one could 00:04:38.04\00:04:40.24 learn that song except the 144,000 who were redeemed from 00:04:40.24\00:04:43.28 the earth. 00:04:43.28\00:04:44.45 These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for 00:04:44.45\00:04:46.35 they are virgins. 00:04:46.35\00:04:47.52 These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. 00:04:47.52\00:04:49.68 These were redeemed from among men, being first fruits to God 00:04:49.68\00:04:53.22 and to the Lamb. 00:04:53.22\00:04:54.59 And in their mouth was found no deceit, for they are 00:04:54.59\00:04:56.73 without fault before the throne of God. 00:04:56.73\00:04:58.23 >>TY: Okay, so the first thing that we noticed here is the 00:04:58.23\00:05:00.13 message that they give is gonna be described in the 00:05:00.13\00:05:04.90 following verses. 00:05:04.90\00:05:06.17 But this is kinda, I guess we could say a description of 00:05:06.17\00:05:08.37 their character. 00:05:08.37\00:05:09.60 >>DAVID: Like a portrait. 00:05:09.60\00:05:10.44 >>TY: It's a portrait of these people. 00:05:10.44\00:05:11.64 And these people are described, first of all, as 00:05:11.64\00:05:14.78 standing symbolically, obviously, on Mount Zion. 00:05:14.78\00:05:17.85 Now, I believe that, again, John is quoting, continually 00:05:17.85\00:05:23.18 from the Old Testament. 00:05:23.18\00:05:24.75 You guys all see that as well, of course. 00:05:24.75\00:05:26.76 And he's quoting here, he's quoting here from Isaiah 00:05:26.76\00:05:29.96 chapter 2. 00:05:29.96\00:05:30.99 Now, I won't go there, but I'll just point out that 00:05:30.99\00:05:33.46 Isaiah chapter 2 is where the prophet Isaiah says that 00:05:33.46\00:05:36.90 finally, someday in the future, in the last days, the 00:05:36.90\00:05:42.07 law will go forth from Zion and when the law goes forth 00:05:42.07\00:05:46.88 from Zion, people from all the unbelieving nations will begin 00:05:46.88\00:05:51.55 to flow from the mountain of the Lord, to Zion. 00:05:51.55\00:05:53.62 They will begin to be attracted to what they see 00:05:53.62\00:05:57.09 going on among God's people, and God will rebuke the 00:05:57.09\00:06:01.06 nations for their warmongering ways and they will learn war 00:06:01.06\00:06:06.83 no more. 00:06:06.83\00:06:08.50 >>DAVID: That's Isaiah 2? 00:06:08.50\00:06:10.80 >>TY: Yes. 00:06:10.80\00:06:11.97 >>DAVID: Okay. 00:06:11.97\00:06:12.97 >>TY: So, that's the Mount Zion connection. 00:06:12.97\00:06:15.47 Mount Zion is biblical symbolism for God's system of 00:06:15.47\00:06:21.11 governance, benevolent system of governance, without war. 00:06:21.11\00:06:25.18 Without violence, which we've been mentioning over and over 00:06:25.18\00:06:28.95 and over again. 00:06:28.95\00:06:30.19 The people of God are associated with Mount Zion and 00:06:30.19\00:06:34.89 they have the Father's name written in their foreheads. 00:06:34.89\00:06:40.06 That's the point. 00:06:40.06\00:06:41.23 The Law of Moses, the entire, the law of God is written in 00:06:41.23\00:06:45.97 their hearts. 00:06:45.97\00:06:46.94 The name of God is written in their foreheads. 00:06:46.94\00:06:49.07 An interesting way to say this is that God has a particular 00:06:49.07\00:06:52.34 interest in your forehead, in my forehead. 00:06:52.34\00:06:55.34 God wants access to the content of the frontal lobe. 00:06:55.34\00:06:58.95 And the content of the frontal lobe, that's where the 00:06:58.95\00:07:01.85 thinking and feeling and believing and decision-making 00:07:01.85\00:07:04.52 process occurs in a human being, right? 00:07:04.52\00:07:06.52 So, when it says the name of the Father is in their 00:07:06.52\00:07:09.49 foreheads, those who stand on Mount Zion, it's a biblical, 00:07:09.49\00:07:12.56 symbolic way of saying, these people now comprehend, they 00:07:12.56\00:07:16.13 understand, they appreciate, and they are living in harmony 00:07:16.13\00:07:19.80 with the character of God. 00:07:19.80\00:07:22.34 >>JEFFREY: Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ 00:07:22.34\00:07:23.91 Jesus. 00:07:23.91\00:07:24.97 So, they've basically identified with the mind of 00:07:24.97\00:07:27.24 God, with the mind of Jesus. 00:07:27.24\00:07:29.41 >>DAVID: When you were talking, I just went back and 00:07:29.41\00:07:31.25 read that section in Isaiah. 00:07:31.25\00:07:32.88 It's awesome. 00:07:32.88\00:07:34.08 >>TY: It's one of my favorite passages in the whole bible. 00:07:34.08\00:07:36.32 >>DAVID: Isaiah 2:1-4, it's awesome. 00:07:36.32\00:07:38.09 >>TY: Yeah, it really is. 00:07:38.09\00:07:39.49 And so, that's the Mount Zion and the name of their Father 00:07:39.49\00:07:41.89 in their forehead reference. 00:07:41.89\00:07:43.69 >>JAMES: I read Psalm 133 while he was talking and 00:07:43.69\00:07:45.73 that's awesome, too. 00:07:45.73\00:07:46.83 Yeah. 00:07:46.83\00:07:47.83 >>TY: What is that one? 00:07:47.83\00:07:49.06 >>JAMES: Behold, now, how good and pleasant it is for the 00:07:49.06\00:07:51.70 brethren to dwell in unity. 00:07:51.70\00:07:53.17 It's like the oil that dripped down Aaron's beard, and then 00:07:53.17\00:07:56.57 it ends up with, the verse ends up with, on Mount Zion. 00:07:56.57\00:07:59.61 It's also a connection to Mount Zion. 00:07:59.61\00:08:01.61 >>JEFFREY: This thing about their foreheads, too, chapter 00:08:01.61\00:08:04.78 14, there's a mark on their forehead, on their hand. 00:08:04.78\00:08:08.32 So, the dark power puts a mark on the forehead and here, in 00:08:08.32\00:08:13.59 chapter 14, the people of God are identified having the 00:08:13.59\00:08:16.66 Father's name written on their foreheads, so. 00:08:16.66\00:08:19.69 >>TY: Well, I think it's interesting, Jeffrey that 00:08:19.69\00:08:21.36 what, here in chapter 14, verse 1 is called the Father's 00:08:21.36\00:08:24.00 name in the forehead, back in chapter 7 is called the seal 00:08:24.00\00:08:27.97 of God in the forehead. 00:08:27.97\00:08:30.04 These are synonymous terms. 00:08:30.04\00:08:32.21 They're describing one and the same thing with different 00:08:32.21\00:08:34.84 language. 00:08:34.84\00:08:36.01 So, the seal of God concept figures prominently into the 00:08:36.01\00:08:40.52 identity and the character of God's people, right? 00:08:40.52\00:08:46.42 So, they are sealed in their foreheads. 00:08:46.42\00:08:50.23 The word sealed, the concept of sealed is the idea of being 00:08:50.23\00:08:55.00 made immoveable, settled. 00:08:55.00\00:08:58.53 The content of a letter, the content of a document is 00:08:58.53\00:09:03.24 closed and sealed. 00:09:03.24\00:09:05.71 >>DAVID: It's settled, I like that. 00:09:05.71\00:09:07.71 >>TY: It's settled. 00:09:07.71\00:09:08.71 >>JAMES: It's also protected. 00:09:08.71\00:09:09.71 >>TY: It's protected, yeah. 00:09:09.71\00:09:11.38 And the thing is, is that a seal, the concept of seal in 00:09:11.38\00:09:14.55 the bible is the idea that not only is it closed and settled, 00:09:14.55\00:09:18.42 but it's changeless. 00:09:18.42\00:09:20.42 When a monarch puts his seal on a document or a law or a 00:09:20.42\00:09:27.60 decree, you can't change that law because it's now 00:09:27.60\00:09:31.50 established by the authority of the king. 00:09:31.50\00:09:33.90 So, these people are settled, they are established in, 00:09:33.90\00:09:40.11 protected, they're established in and protected and they are 00:09:40.11\00:09:43.88 settled into the character of God as their mode of 00:09:43.88\00:09:46.72 existence. 00:09:46.72\00:09:47.88 >>JEFFREY: There's another parallel here because it says, 00:09:47.88\00:09:49.52 then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion 00:09:49.52\00:09:52.29 and with this people. 00:09:52.29\00:09:54.02 And we pointed out in our last discussion that the word Lamb 00:09:54.02\00:09:56.49 keeps occurring in the book of Revelation in the reference of 00:09:56.49\00:09:59.13 Jesus. 00:09:59.13\00:10:00.30 But the last time that that word came up was in chapter 00:10:00.30\00:10:03.80 13, verse 11, where this power rises with lamb-like horns, 00:10:03.80\00:10:11.07 but yet it misrepresents lamb-likeness in the very next 00:10:11.07\00:10:16.34 scene you have is the genuine people of God, standing... 00:10:16.34\00:10:21.15 >>JAMES: So, you have lamb-likeness, and then you've 00:10:21.15\00:10:24.65 got the Lamb people. 00:10:24.65\00:10:25.85 >>TY: Not only is the point that this is the genuine, the 00:10:25.85\00:10:27.49 point is that while this power is abandoning lamb-like 00:10:27.49\00:10:31.09 principles, these people are retaining. 00:10:31.09\00:10:33.96 >>JEFFREY: And it comes up over and over. 00:10:33.96\00:10:35.73 In verse 1, you see it, in verse 3, it comes up. 00:10:35.73\00:10:38.83 Sorry, verse 4, also, follow the Lamb wherever he goes, 00:10:38.83\00:10:41.24 they were redeemed among men, being first of God and to the 00:10:41.24\00:10:44.11 Lamb. 00:10:44.11\00:10:45.11 So, Lamb, Lamb, Lamb, Lamb, Lamb. 00:10:45.11\00:10:46.71 In other words, John is trying to make a point, I've just 00:10:46.71\00:10:48.91 painted a picture of this beast with lamb-like horns, 00:10:48.91\00:10:51.75 but it's not consistent, and now, here is the other image 00:10:51.75\00:10:55.52 I'm painting to you, and the Lamb is all over it, with a 00:10:55.52\00:10:58.45 people who resemble the Lamb. 00:10:58.45\00:11:00.52 >>JAMES: Okay, I got my hand up, I got my hand up, I got my 00:11:00.52\00:11:02.02 hand up. 00:11:02.02\00:11:02.92 >>TY: I call on James. 00:11:02.92\00:11:04.19 >>JAMES: Okay, so at my house, what we do is we pass the 00:11:04.19\00:11:05.59 saltshaker, this is the saltshaker, and we pass it, 00:11:05.59\00:11:07.00 whoever's, okay, you're next, okay, you got it. 00:11:07.00\00:11:08.80 I got the saltshaker. 00:11:08.80\00:11:09.76 It's that intense. 00:11:09.76\00:11:10.67 And there's only four of us. 00:11:10.67\00:11:13.80 >>TY: What we do in our house is we just pause. 00:11:13.80\00:11:16.67 [Laughter] 00:11:16.67\00:11:18.34 Go ahead, though. 00:11:18.34\00:11:19.37 >>JAMES: No, you don't, I've been at your house. 00:11:19.37\00:11:20.11 I know better than that. 00:11:20.11\00:11:20.94 Nice try, though, nice try. 00:11:20.94\00:11:22.68 Okay, so the other thing that's really cool is, and 00:11:22.68\00:11:25.25 we're gonna see this, we're gonna flesh this out, I say 00:11:25.25\00:11:27.75 we're gonna flesh this out as we go through the verses, but 00:11:27.75\00:11:30.09 we see this and that is we also just got done looking at 00:11:30.09\00:11:33.89 the characteristics of the dragon and the characteristics 00:11:33.89\00:11:37.16 of the beast, what is its character like? 00:11:37.16\00:11:39.49 And now, we're looking in contrast at the 00:11:39.49\00:11:41.46 characteristics of the Lamb, and like Jeffrey said, here's 00:11:41.46\00:11:44.67 this beast with Lamb-like horns, how are we gonna be 00:11:44.67\00:11:47.64 able to distinguish the difference? 00:11:47.64\00:11:49.64 Oh, well, here's the lamb-like people that are following 00:11:49.64\00:11:52.94 Jesus, and here's what they look like, and we look at the 00:11:52.94\00:11:55.81 context, and I'm telling you, this is the final issue. 00:11:55.81\00:11:59.31 When people try to sort it all out, they're gonna have a hard 00:11:59.31\00:12:01.72 time, maybe with the doctoral issues and the prophetic 00:12:01.72\00:12:03.89 issues and figuring that out, but there's gonna be a clear 00:12:03.89\00:12:07.26 distinction between the people who are lamb-like and the 00:12:07.26\00:12:09.46 people who are beast-like. 00:12:09.46\00:12:10.53 >>TY: That's right. 00:12:10.53\00:12:11.76 >>DAVID: That's why they both go together until the harvest. 00:12:11.76\00:12:13.53 >>TY: Now, what do you guys think of this? 00:12:13.53\00:12:15.50 In verse 3, it says they, speaking of the people of God, 00:12:15.50\00:12:17.53 the people of Mount Zion, the 144,000, they sang as it were 00:12:17.53\00:12:22.10 a new song before the throne, before the four and twenty 00:12:22.10\00:12:27.08 elders, the 24 elders, and the living creatures. 00:12:27.08\00:12:29.64 So, you remember when we were in chapters 4 and 5, we saw 00:12:29.64\00:12:34.25 that there is this element in the story of Revelation of 00:12:34.25\00:12:37.99 testimony and witness being given. 00:12:37.99\00:12:40.96 So, what's happening here is these people are not only 00:12:40.96\00:12:45.99 having the Father's name in their forehead, they're not 00:12:45.99\00:12:47.96 only bearing testimony in the world, but their lives and the 00:12:47.96\00:12:53.50 message they give is testifying before the throne 00:12:53.50\00:12:55.94 of God and before heavenly beings. 00:12:55.94\00:12:58.41 So, they are contributing evidence to the case that is 00:12:58.41\00:13:02.64 being made against God and their lives, I mean, we need 00:13:02.64\00:13:06.41 to be very clear about this, Jesus achieved absolutely 00:13:06.41\00:13:10.95 complete and total victory over the enemy and God's 00:13:10.95\00:13:14.36 people don't add any new virtue or glory or victory or 00:13:14.36\00:13:20.86 merit, but God's people do take on the victory that Jesus 00:13:20.86\00:13:26.33 gained. 00:13:26.33\00:13:28.27 And they experience what he achieved for them and their 00:13:28.27\00:13:31.87 lives become a witness and a testimony before, that's 00:13:31.87\00:13:34.61 right. 00:13:34.61\00:13:35.81 >>JEFFREY: What do you think about this idea of singing, of 00:13:35.81\00:13:38.15 singing a new song? 00:13:38.15\00:13:39.91 'Cause in Revelation 15, it mentions that in verse 3, they 00:13:39.91\00:13:41.98 sing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb and this, of 00:13:41.98\00:13:45.82 course, is borrowed language from the Old Testament, after 00:13:45.82\00:13:49.39 the deliverance from Egypt, it says in chapter 15 that they 00:13:49.39\00:13:53.86 sang this song. 00:13:53.86\00:13:55.00 So, in other words, you can only sing the song if you've 00:13:55.00\00:13:57.13 had the experience, right? 00:13:57.13\00:13:58.57 >>TY: Yeah, I've heard some people say that it's the song 00:13:58.57\00:14:00.87 of Moses and the Lamb and asked, what are those two 00:14:00.87\00:14:04.77 songs? 00:14:04.77\00:14:06.01 I don't think it's two songs. 00:14:06.01\00:14:07.11 It's one, the song of Moses is the song of the Lamb. 00:14:07.11\00:14:09.78 And it's the song of deliverance by the Passover 00:14:09.78\00:14:12.41 lamb's blood. 00:14:12.41\00:14:13.55 It is the song of Calvary. 00:14:13.55\00:14:14.95 It is the song of grounding in the truths that were 00:14:14.95\00:14:18.95 manifested at Calvary. 00:14:18.95\00:14:20.99 >>JEFFREY: So, they're singing this song because they've had 00:14:20.99\00:14:22.46 an experience. 00:14:22.46\00:14:23.73 >>TY: With Jesus and their experience, again, is grounded 00:14:23.73\00:14:27.66 in what was revealed at Calvary. 00:14:27.66\00:14:29.56 >>DAVID: I have never made the tie, which, I'm embarrassed, 00:14:29.56\00:14:33.40 almost, to say it, between Revelation 14:3 and Revelation 00:14:33.40\00:14:36.40 4 and 5. 00:14:36.40\00:14:37.47 And the reason I say I'm almost embarrassed to say it 00:14:37.47\00:14:39.97 is that the 24 elders show up here. 00:14:39.97\00:14:44.45 And the four living creatures are here. 00:14:44.45\00:14:46.25 So, the fact that I wouldn't have made that connection is 00:14:46.25\00:14:48.12 really... 00:14:48.12\00:14:49.22 >>TY: Don't you think it's kinda neat, David, that in 00:14:49.22\00:14:50.32 chapters 4 and 5, the direction of the testimony and 00:14:50.32\00:14:53.79 witness is from the living creatures and the 24 elders 00:14:53.79\00:14:57.43 testifying outward toward the world, but here, you have a 00:14:57.43\00:15:02.50 group of people in the world who are testifying toward 00:15:02.50\00:15:04.67 them. 00:15:04.67\00:15:05.43 So, it's a reciprocal testimony. 00:15:05.43\00:15:07.44 In other words, it's syncing. 00:15:07.44\00:15:10.34 The whole universe is coming to one mind, one agreement 00:15:10.34\00:15:13.64 regarding one pulsive harmony. 00:15:13.64\00:15:16.44 Everybody's realizing heaven and earth that God is just and 00:15:16.44\00:15:20.42 true in all his ways. 00:15:20.42\00:15:21.52 >>DAVID: That's the thing that jumped out at me was the 00:15:21.52\00:15:24.89 144,000, the redeemed of God are lending their voice of 00:15:24.89\00:15:29.56 worship. 00:15:29.56\00:15:30.73 'Cause back in 4 and 5, it was they cease not to praise, 00:15:30.73\00:15:32.56 holy, holy, all of that. 00:15:32.56\00:15:34.36 So, now, we have the whole thing about how his throne was 00:15:34.36\00:15:37.53 set in heaven. 00:15:37.53\00:15:39.33 Okay, now, this is, the throne is being set and settled on 00:15:39.33\00:15:42.94 earth. 00:15:42.94\00:15:43.94 >>JAMES: And also, the redeemed. 00:15:43.94\00:15:45.94 >>Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know, we're live 00:15:45.94\00:15:49.11 right now on Facebook. 00:15:49.11\00:15:49.94 Say what's up, say what's up. 00:15:49.94\00:15:51.18 >>TY: Hey, what's happening? 00:15:51.18\00:15:52.58 [Laughter] 00:15:52.58\00:15:53.45 >>DAVID: Are you serious? 00:15:53.45\00:15:54.02 >>TY: Table talk. 00:15:54.02\00:15:55.48 >>DAVID: Season 4, book of Revelation. 00:15:55.48\00:15:59.02 >>TY: The Revelation series. 00:15:59.02\00:16:00.72 >>DAVID: When he came up to you right there, I thought 00:16:00.72\00:16:01.89 maybe the building was on fire or something. 00:16:01.89\00:16:03.46 >>TY: I thought there was an emergency. 00:16:03.46\00:16:04.43 [Laughter] 00:16:04.43\00:16:05.59 >>DAVID: Well, there was, a social media emergency. 00:16:05.59\00:16:08.60 >>JAMES: No, here's the deal, so building on that, in the 00:16:08.60\00:16:11.13 picture in Revelation 4 and 5, you have the four living 00:16:11.13\00:16:14.04 creatures, you have the 24 elders and then, you have the 00:16:14.04\00:16:16.37 Lamb in the midst of the throne that's slain. 00:16:16.37\00:16:18.94 Now, adding to that, you have the 144,000. 00:16:18.94\00:16:21.84 The Lamb that's in the midst of the throne in Revelation 4 00:16:21.84\00:16:23.88 and 5 is the one that answers the questions, Ty was saying 00:16:23.88\00:16:26.55 we're supplementing that. 00:16:26.55\00:16:27.75 We're part of the answering of that big question. 00:16:27.75\00:16:29.75 So, we're in the throne, 'cause notice the words here, 00:16:29.75\00:16:33.19 it says, and they sang a song, as it were, a new song before 00:16:33.19\00:16:36.99 the throne, before the throne, that's where the Lamb is, in 00:16:36.99\00:16:40.66 Revelation 5. 00:16:40.66\00:16:41.66 That's where the, they're before that throne now. 00:16:41.66\00:16:44.03 They've come into that great controversy and they've come 00:16:44.03\00:16:47.17 in to help answer the question of the great controversy, 00:16:47.17\00:16:49.17 which ties into Revelation 12:11. 00:16:49.17\00:16:51.61 They love not their lives unto the death. 00:16:51.61\00:16:53.84 Jesus loved not his life unto the death, they love not their 00:16:53.84\00:16:56.85 lives unto the death. 00:16:56.85\00:16:57.95 This is a maturing, if you will, of this character of 00:16:57.95\00:17:00.92 God's people. 00:17:00.92\00:17:02.12 >>TY: So, the love of Jesus, manifest at the cross, is now 00:17:02.12\00:17:03.95 their experience. 00:17:03.95\00:17:05.15 >>JEFFREY: It says right here, no one could learn that song 00:17:05.15\00:17:07.12 except for those who were redeemed from the earth. 00:17:07.12\00:17:09.12 Go back to that same point. 00:17:09.12\00:17:10.36 If you haven't had that experience, you can't sing the 00:17:10.36\00:17:12.36 song. 00:17:12.36\00:17:13.36 >>DAVID: Amen. 00:17:13.36\00:17:15.40 Ty said at the end of the last session about, or maybe it 00:17:15.40\00:17:17.73 was, somewhere in the last session, I thought, about the 00:17:17.73\00:17:20.80 principle of self-preservation and how that is built into 00:17:20.80\00:17:25.77 what's happening in Revelation 13. 00:17:25.77\00:17:27.94 But if Jesus didn't love is, greater love has no man than 00:17:27.94\00:17:31.51 this, that a man would lay down his life for his friends. 00:17:31.51\00:17:34.55 These people are embodying that same song. 00:17:34.55\00:17:36.95 So, I love this idea that's really coming clear in my mind 00:17:36.95\00:17:39.79 right now that there is a synchronicity, there is a 00:17:39.79\00:17:42.86 unity, everybody's now on the same page, you and you and 00:17:42.86\00:17:46.49 you, and I think, in the context of Revelation 13, 00:17:46.49\00:17:49.70 these people are radically in step with God and his kingdom 00:17:49.70\00:17:53.27 and the elders and the creatures and the lamb and 00:17:53.27\00:17:55.94 they are radically out of step with this whole coercive 00:17:55.94\00:17:59.74 enterprise that's going on between the two beasts. 00:17:59.74\00:18:01.98 >>TY: The Father is in their foreheads. 00:18:01.98\00:18:04.55 >>JAMES: That's what the next verse says. 00:18:04.55\00:18:06.55 Notice what the next verse says, the next verse says, 00:18:06.55\00:18:08.55 these are they which are not defiled with women, for they 00:18:08.55\00:18:10.75 are virgins. 00:18:10.75\00:18:11.89 These are they which follow the Lamb wherever he goes. 00:18:11.89\00:18:14.22 So, they've been defiled with women, but they're no longer 00:18:14.22\00:18:17.29 defiled with women. 00:18:17.29\00:18:18.49 You could say, in a sense... 00:18:18.49\00:18:20.80 >>TY: We better identify what all that means. 00:18:20.80\00:18:22.76 >>JAMES: Let me just give you one scripture on this that I 00:18:22.76\00:18:25.80 think is so brilliant. 00:18:25.80\00:18:26.97 Paul here is talking, in 2 Corinthians chapter 11, and in 00:18:26.97\00:18:30.64 verse 2, he says, for I am jealous over you with Godly 00:18:30.64\00:18:33.98 jealousy for I have espoused you to one husband that I may 00:18:33.98\00:18:37.71 present you a chaste virgin to Christ. 00:18:37.71\00:18:39.75 >>TY: So, the church is a virgin body. 00:18:39.75\00:18:42.58 >>JAMES: He says, but I fear, lest by any means, as the 00:18:42.58\00:18:47.02 serpent beguiled Eve, there's the serpent language again, 00:18:47.02\00:18:49.96 right out of Revelation 12, 13, and 14, or Revelation 12 00:18:49.96\00:18:54.00 and 13, as the serpent beguiled Eve, through 00:18:54.00\00:18:56.93 suddenly, so your minds should be corrupted from the 00:18:56.93\00:19:00.24 simplicity that is in Christ. 00:19:00.24\00:19:02.07 For, he says, if he that comes preaches another Jesus, whom 00:19:02.07\00:19:06.14 ye have not preached, or you receive another spirit which 00:19:06.14\00:19:09.24 ye have not received, or another gospel which ye have 00:19:09.24\00:19:11.88 not received. 00:19:11.88\00:19:12.95 And then, he goes on to describe ministers of 00:19:12.95\00:19:16.92 righteousness and Satan coming as an angel of light. 00:19:16.92\00:19:19.75 In other words, here are our people now, this is a 00:19:19.75\00:19:22.12 consummation of events, it's the climactic picture of the 00:19:22.12\00:19:28.56 victory of God's people, they come into the throne room, 00:19:28.56\00:19:31.60 they are no longer, it says here, they are in no wise 00:19:31.60\00:19:35.67 corrupted with other women. 00:19:35.67\00:19:39.71 They are virgins. 00:19:39.71\00:19:40.74 They have a pure gospel, a pure spirit, they have 00:19:40.74\00:19:42.98 followed the Lamb wherever he goes. 00:19:42.98\00:19:45.58 That's the context of this. 00:19:45.58\00:19:47.22 >>DAVID: You just quoted the verse there about betrothed. 00:19:47.22\00:19:49.18 I betrothed you, yeah, did you just quote that? 00:19:49.18\00:19:52.09 >>JAMES: 2 Corinthians chapter 11. 00:19:52.09\00:19:54.19 I've espoused you, is what it says. 00:19:54.19\00:19:56.46 >>DAVID: This has been really helpful for me and I just 00:19:56.46\00:19:57.73 preached on this in my local church and maybe it'll be 00:19:57.73\00:19:59.76 helpful for you guys, but when we read texts like this, there 00:19:59.76\00:20:03.33 is a danger that we could associate and texts like it 00:20:03.33\00:20:07.67 came up in my preaching in the context of Mary and how she 00:20:07.67\00:20:11.44 gave birth to Jesus as a virgin. 00:20:11.44\00:20:14.54 And I think that there is a tendency, perhaps, for us to 00:20:14.54\00:20:20.42 regard virginity as the ideal, it's like, oh, that's holy, 00:20:20.42\00:20:24.35 that's pure, but of course, if that's the case, then the 00:20:24.35\00:20:27.82 implication is, is that those that have engaged in sexual 00:20:27.82\00:20:30.56 activity, sexual intercourse, that that's, well, that's less 00:20:30.56\00:20:33.43 than ideal. 00:20:33.43\00:20:34.40 That's dirty. 00:20:34.40\00:20:35.53 No, I'm just saying, that's dirty, but this virginity 00:20:35.53\00:20:38.00 thing is really great. 00:20:38.00\00:20:39.63 But the point that I made of my congregation and I think 00:20:39.63\00:20:41.64 it's really important here in this context is, virginity was 00:20:41.64\00:20:44.37 not God's idea. 00:20:44.37\00:20:46.64 In Genesis 1 and 2, it was not good that man should be alone. 00:20:46.64\00:20:50.35 The sexual, social isolation of man is not good. 00:20:50.35\00:20:54.92 What's good is man and woman coming together in union, in 00:20:54.92\00:20:58.45 relational integrity. 00:20:58.45\00:21:02.36 Okay, so, here's the point, yeah, that's right, I love 00:21:02.36\00:21:05.13 that. 00:21:05.13\00:21:06.13 Here's the point. 00:21:06.13\00:21:07.23 It's not that virginity is virtuous in and of itself, 00:21:07.23\00:21:09.33 what makes virginity virtuous is that you are waiting to 00:21:09.33\00:21:12.77 give yourself totally and unreservedly to that one. 00:21:12.77\00:21:16.87 >>JEFFREY: It's pending commitment. 00:21:16.87\00:21:18.87 >>DAVID: It's pending commitment. 00:21:18.87\00:21:20.88 So, what's happening here is the marriage of the Lamb is 00:21:20.88\00:21:22.88 not yet come. 00:21:22.88\00:21:24.05 You're betrothed, espoused, betrothed, in 2 Corinthians 00:21:24.05\00:21:27.75 11, so the virginity here, in other words, they're not 00:21:27.75\00:21:30.59 married to harlots. 00:21:30.59\00:21:32.55 That's the point. 00:21:32.55\00:21:33.59 They've not defiled themselves with these others. 00:21:33.59\00:21:35.76 I just think that's important. 00:21:35.76\00:21:36.76 It's really helpful for me. 00:21:36.76\00:21:37.86 >>TY: They're virgins not in a commitment to celibacy. 00:21:37.86\00:21:41.03 They're virgins in a commitment to waiting for 00:21:41.03\00:21:43.57 their husband. 00:21:43.57\00:21:44.67 >>DAVID: And I am your, what's the text there, Isaiah? 00:21:44.67\00:21:46.87 The Lord is your husband, the maker. 00:21:46.87\00:21:48.87 You know the text. 00:21:48.87\00:21:49.87 Nobody knows where it is right off? 00:21:49.87\00:21:51.97 >>TY: Chapter 55, I think. 00:21:51.97\00:21:53.71 >>DAVID: I thought it was like 54, 55. 00:21:53.71\00:21:56.48 >>TY: So, we've gotta take a break, but summarizing so far, 00:21:56.48\00:22:00.32 we've done good moving through verses 1-4, when we come back, 00:22:00.32\00:22:03.82 we'll just mention verse 5 and then go into the 3 angels 00:22:03.82\00:22:06.55 messages. 00:22:06.55\00:22:07.56 How about that? 00:22:07.56\00:22:08.56 >>DAVID: Sounds great. 00:22:08.56\00:22:09.56 [Music] 00:22:09.56\00:22:20.50 >>This is the story of Niyima, who took a bus to the 00:22:20.50\00:22:24.07 doctor and found a piece of paper with words of hope about 00:22:24.07\00:22:29.58 Jesus, which was left by a church member who unpacked a 00:22:29.58\00:22:33.35 box that came from a truck which drove in from Durban 00:22:33.35\00:22:37.09 where a ship was docked that sailed from Seattle, loaded 00:22:37.09\00:22:41.86 with containers stacked high with millions of tracts, 00:22:41.86\00:22:45.73 trucked in from the Light Bearers Publishing House, 00:22:45.73\00:22:49.00 where more than 600 million pieces of gospel literature 00:22:49.00\00:22:53.00 have been printed in 42 languages. 00:22:53.00\00:22:55.64 Here's the amazing thing, Light Bearers distributes this 00:22:55.64\00:22:59.81 literature free of charge all over the world, and each piece 00:22:59.81\00:23:04.75 costs only 5 pennies to print, transport, and deliver. 00:23:04.75\00:23:09.15 Every day, millions of people buy a $5 cup of coffee, $5 a 00:23:09.15\00:23:15.76 cup, 5 days a week. 00:23:15.76\00:23:18.86 It adds up fast. 00:23:18.86\00:23:20.86 But at just 5 cents apiece, that same $25 can also ship 00:23:20.86\00:23:25.87 500 pieces of literature and give hope to people like 00:23:25.87\00:23:30.41 Niyima, who shared that paper with a classmate, who gave it 00:23:30.41\00:23:35.91 to her cousin, who shared it with his boss, who passed it 00:23:35.91\00:23:39.91 to her grandmother, who left it on another bus, where it 00:23:39.91\00:23:44.89 will be found by someone else. 00:23:44.89\00:23:47.76 And the story continues. 00:23:47.76\00:23:50.59 Five cents doesn't buy a lot these days, but in other parts 00:23:50.59\00:23:55.10 of the world, your nickel could change someone's life. 00:23:55.10\00:23:58.97 Your gift of $25 a month sends out 6,000 pieces of gospel 00:23:58.97\00:24:04.54 literature each year. 00:24:04.54\00:24:06.27 Fifty dollars sends out 12,000, and $100 a month sends 00:24:06.27\00:24:10.95 out 24,000 messages of hope every year, all over the 00:24:10.95\00:24:15.85 world. 00:24:15.85\00:24:17.29 Empower Light Bearers to continue the story. 00:24:17.29\00:24:20.76 Send your gift through lightbearers.org, or by 00:24:20.76\00:24:24.46 calling 877-585-1111. 00:24:24.46\00:24:29.13 Who knew 5 little pennies could do so much? 00:24:29.13\00:24:33.77 [Music] 00:24:33.77\00:24:39.97 >>TY: Alright, so, we did Revelation chapter 14, the 00:24:39.97\00:24:43.01 first few verses there with identifying characteristics of 00:24:43.01\00:24:46.95 God's people, but there are two characteristics that we 00:24:46.95\00:24:50.19 haven't specifically mentioned yet and they are in verses 4 00:24:50.19\00:24:53.92 and 5, they are called the first fruits to God and then, 00:24:53.92\00:24:58.23 in verse 5, it says that they have no deceit in their 00:24:58.23\00:25:02.26 mouths. 00:25:02.26\00:25:03.30 These are two extremely important characteristics. 00:25:03.30\00:25:06.84 What is the reference to first fruits mean? 00:25:06.84\00:25:08.87 >>JAMES: James 1:18. 00:25:08.87\00:25:10.17 I mean, real simple, if you don't wanna spend a lot of 00:25:10.17\00:25:12.17 time on it, but it's really powerful because it ties in 00:25:12.17\00:25:14.54 with John 3 and verse 3. 00:25:14.54\00:25:16.18 James 1:18 says that to be a first fruit is to be born 00:25:16.18\00:25:19.98 again. 00:25:19.98\00:25:21.05 Of his own will begat he us the rod of truth that we 00:25:21.05\00:25:23.15 should be kind of a first fruits of his creatures. 00:25:23.15\00:25:25.22 So, to be a first fruit is to be born again. 00:25:25.22\00:25:27.22 Jesus says, you will not see that, you will not perceive or 00:25:27.22\00:25:29.52 understand or enter into the kingdom of God unless you are 00:25:29.52\00:25:31.53 born again. 00:25:31.53\00:25:32.73 And obviously, these people have a born again experience. 00:25:32.73\00:25:35.96 They have a genuine Christian, they're not just raised in the 00:25:35.96\00:25:38.07 church, believing these doctrines, that's my 00:25:38.07\00:25:40.07 tradition, that's the way I go. 00:25:40.07\00:25:41.07 They live and die for this. 00:25:41.07\00:25:42.84 This is, yes, this is experiential religion is what 00:25:42.84\00:25:45.54 it's saying, basically. 00:25:45.54\00:25:46.51 That's first, it's very experiential religion. 00:25:46.51\00:25:48.54 >>TY: And then, it says that they have no deceit in their 00:25:48.54\00:25:50.55 mouths. 00:25:50.55\00:25:51.75 Now, I've heard people define this various ways, I have my 00:25:51.75\00:25:54.98 opinion in the context, I don't think it's just saying 00:25:54.98\00:25:59.19 that they don't lie, although, that's a virtue. 00:25:59.19\00:26:03.86 I think the context is that there is a propaganda campaign 00:26:03.86\00:26:10.37 against the character of God, God's character has been 00:26:10.37\00:26:12.93 grossly misrepresented. 00:26:12.93\00:26:14.40 These individuals are the ones in which there is no longer 00:26:14.40\00:26:20.61 any lie about the character of God being told in their 00:26:20.61\00:26:24.35 theology. 00:26:24.35\00:26:25.41 >>DAVID: I knew that's where you were going when you 00:26:25.41\00:26:28.05 started. 00:26:28.05\00:26:29.05 I love that. 00:26:29.05\00:26:30.05 That's a connection I had not seen. 00:26:30.05\00:26:32.05 >>JEFFREY: He's borrowing language from Isaiah 53, is he 00:26:32.05\00:26:34.92 not? 00:26:34.92\00:26:36.02 Where, speaking of the suffering servant of Jesus, it 00:26:36.02\00:26:38.79 says, in verse, at the end of verse 9, nor was any deceit 00:26:38.79\00:26:43.80 found in his mouth. 00:26:43.80\00:26:44.93 >>TY: Jesus gave perfect and accurate testimony to the 00:26:44.93\00:26:47.84 Father. 00:26:47.84\00:26:48.87 >>JEFFREY: So, they are mirroring Jesus' testimony 00:26:48.87\00:26:50.84 regarding his Father. 00:26:50.84\00:26:51.84 >>TY: Isn't that great? 00:26:51.84\00:26:52.91 Tell me, real quick though, that was Isaiah 53 what? 00:26:52.91\00:26:55.91 >>JEFFREY: That was Isaiah 53, verse 9. 00:26:55.91\00:26:59.95 The last sentence. 00:26:59.95\00:27:01.15 >>TY: Okay, so with those first five verses, we have a 00:27:01.15\00:27:04.99 snapshot of the character of these people, but now, 00:27:04.99\00:27:07.99 starting with verse 6, the three angels' messages are 00:27:07.99\00:27:12.03 unfolding. 00:27:12.03\00:27:13.03 Now, that's language... 00:27:13.03\00:27:14.30 >>DAVID: This is the content of their message. 00:27:14.30\00:27:15.13 >>TY: Yeah, this is the content. 00:27:15.13\00:27:16.03 They have something to say to the world. 00:27:16.03\00:27:17.70 The first angel's message. 00:27:17.70\00:27:19.40 Jeffrey, why don't you read number one for us? 00:27:19.40\00:27:21.40 >>JEFFREY: Then, I saw, verse 6, another angel fly in the 00:27:21.40\00:27:23.74 midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach 00:27:23.74\00:27:26.98 to those who dwell on the earth. 00:27:26.98\00:27:29.14 To every nation, tribe, tongue, and people, saying 00:27:29.14\00:27:33.68 with a loud voice, fear God and give glory to him, for the 00:27:33.68\00:27:37.72 hour of his judgement has come. 00:27:37.72\00:27:40.22 And worship him who made heaven, earth, sea, and the 00:27:40.22\00:27:42.79 springs of water. 00:27:42.79\00:27:43.89 >>TY: So, the first feature of their message is what is 00:27:43.89\00:27:47.46 called here, the everlasting gospel. 00:27:47.46\00:27:50.23 Oh, wait a minute, wait a minute. 00:27:50.23\00:27:52.23 I think we shouldn't just assume that everybody would 00:27:52.23\00:27:54.70 know that angel. 00:27:54.70\00:27:56.07 'Cause it sounds like these are literally angels flying 00:27:56.07\00:27:58.77 around in the sky shouting stuff down to earth. 00:27:58.77\00:28:01.31 But, we need to call attention to the fact that the word 00:28:01.31\00:28:03.65 angel is used two ways in scripture to refer to the 00:28:03.65\00:28:08.25 actual angelic beings who are occupying a position of giving 00:28:08.25\00:28:14.02 messages for God, but sometimes, in the bible, the 00:28:14.02\00:28:17.99 word angel just means what the word means, it just means 00:28:17.99\00:28:21.73 messenger, in fact, and these are angels that are 00:28:21.73\00:28:25.27 symbolically representing the people of God giving a 00:28:25.27\00:28:28.77 message. 00:28:28.77\00:28:29.84 >>JEFFREY: Just described in the first five verses. 00:28:29.84\00:28:32.27 >>TY: And we know that for probably more than the reasons 00:28:32.27\00:28:35.94 I'm aware of, but one of the reasons is, they preached the 00:28:35.94\00:28:39.11 everlasting gospel, and that's exactly what the church was 00:28:39.11\00:28:42.95 called to do by Jesus. 00:28:42.95\00:28:45.52 Yeah, they were called, the church, the people of God were 00:28:45.52\00:28:49.06 the ones who were given the gospel commission, not the 00:28:49.06\00:28:51.33 angels. 00:28:51.33\00:28:52.33 Yeah, so they're preaching the gospel. 00:28:52.33\00:28:54.30 So, the first feature of the message is what's called here 00:28:54.30\00:28:56.97 the everlasting gospel. 00:28:56.97\00:28:58.97 >>JEFFREY: The only place in the whole bible where those 00:28:58.97\00:29:00.97 two words are found. 00:29:00.97\00:29:02.10 >>TY: It's the only place in the bible where those two 00:29:02.10\00:29:03.97 words are found together, but there's another place in the 00:29:03.97\00:29:05.97 bible where I think the same exact thing is spoken of with 00:29:05.97\00:29:08.24 slightly different words, and it's Jeremiah 31, verse 3, the 00:29:08.24\00:29:11.65 Lord has appeared to me of old saying yes, I have loved you 00:29:11.65\00:29:15.32 with an everlasting love, therefore, with loving 00:29:15.32\00:29:18.22 kindness, I have drawn you. 00:29:18.22\00:29:19.25 >>JEFFREY: Everlasting love, everlasting gospel. 00:29:19.25\00:29:21.62 >>TY: The everlasting love of God is the content of the 00:29:21.62\00:29:25.19 gospel. 00:29:25.19\00:29:26.36 >>JEFFREY: Do you think that there's a hint to what Jesus 00:29:26.36\00:29:31.93 said about the last days in Matthew 24:14, where he said, 00:29:31.93\00:29:34.94 and this gospel of the kingdom will be preached as a witness 00:29:34.94\00:29:39.24 to all the nations, and then, the end will come. 00:29:39.24\00:29:41.94 And so, the thought comes, if you were to look anywhere in 00:29:41.94\00:29:44.68 the bible to get a picture, a glimpse, an idea of the end 00:29:44.68\00:29:48.48 times, what book would that be? 00:29:48.48\00:29:50.45 It'd be the book of Revelation. 00:29:50.45\00:29:52.12 Where do we find a gospel mentioned and described in the 00:29:52.12\00:29:55.36 book of Revelation? 00:29:55.36\00:29:56.89 Chapter 14, what we're reading now. 00:29:56.89\00:29:58.89 Is it possible that Jesus is thinking, he's looking down 00:29:58.89\00:30:01.33 the stretch and he's saying, and this gospel of the 00:30:01.33\00:30:04.50 kingdom, so it's the same gospel Jesus has been 00:30:04.50\00:30:06.50 preaching, but he looks down the stretch to the end of time 00:30:06.50\00:30:09.44 and he says, this is the very gospel that will be preached 00:30:09.44\00:30:13.31 that will lead to the end, to the end. 00:30:13.31\00:30:16.11 And then, in Revelation 14, we have a picture of the end and 00:30:16.11\00:30:19.75 a gospel being preached and it's about to unfold to 00:30:19.75\00:30:23.05 describe what that gospel is like. 00:30:23.05\00:30:25.05 This is what Jesus was talking about. 00:30:25.05\00:30:27.06 >>JAMES: And even more so because in the second angel's 00:30:27.06\00:30:29.06 message, Babylon is fallen, that word fallen means to come 00:30:29.06\00:30:31.43 to an end and Babylon is a code word for the world at 00:30:31.43\00:30:35.06 that time in the book of Revelation, a code word for 00:30:35.06\00:30:37.10 the world, but before we get onto that, Isaiah 45:17 is 00:30:37.10\00:30:40.80 also another place where this phrase is used. 00:30:40.80\00:30:43.41 Now, check this out where it says, but Israel shall be 00:30:43.41\00:30:46.11 saved by the Lord, in the Lord with an everlasting salvation, 00:30:46.11\00:30:50.75 everlasting salvation. 00:30:50.75\00:30:51.91 Now, it's the only other place where you see that kind of 00:30:51.91\00:30:55.62 phrasing in relation to identifying, again, what the 00:30:55.62\00:30:58.39 gospel is. 00:30:58.39\00:30:59.39 The gospel is, as you said, God's love, right? 00:30:59.39\00:31:02.42 Everlasting love. 00:31:02.42\00:31:03.43 The gospel is everlasting salvation. 00:31:03.43\00:31:05.43 It's God's love and salvation. 00:31:05.43\00:31:06.43 From biblical perspective. 00:31:06.43\00:31:08.10 >>TY: Let me show you guys a connection that I learned from 00:31:08.10\00:31:11.60 a mutual friend of all of us, Dr. Fred Bishof, in chapter 00:31:11.60\00:31:15.10 14, and I thought of it because you went there, in 00:31:15.10\00:31:17.47 chapter 24 of Matthew is it? 00:31:17.47\00:31:19.51 Yeah, Matthew 24, we just read about the everlasting gospel 00:31:19.51\00:31:23.55 in the first angel's message, we connected that with the 00:31:23.55\00:31:27.08 language of everlasting love in Jeremiah 31. 00:31:27.08\00:31:31.12 Now, listen to these verses in chapter 24 for Matthew, 00:31:31.12\00:31:34.96 starting with verse 12. 00:31:34.96\00:31:37.66 Yeah, verse 12 and it says, in verse, yeah, why were you 00:31:37.66\00:31:44.80 going back to, go back there if you think that... 00:31:44.80\00:31:47.17 >>JAMES: No, no, no, it was the hatred and the offense and 00:31:47.17\00:31:49.20 all that stuff because that gives the context of how the 00:31:49.20\00:31:51.81 love works in the context. 00:31:51.81\00:31:53.44 >>TY: Okay, this is what Dr. Fred Bishof shared with me. 00:31:53.44\00:31:56.64 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will 00:31:56.64\00:32:01.68 grow cold. 00:32:01.68\00:32:02.72 So, lawlessness is, by definition, lovelessness. 00:32:02.72\00:32:08.29 And we know that from other passages as well, because the 00:32:08.29\00:32:12.09 law of God, it says the lawlessness will abound and 00:32:12.09\00:32:14.63 Jesus explicitly, just back in chapter 23, chapter 22, tells 00:32:14.63\00:32:19.60 us that the law is love. 00:32:19.60\00:32:20.84 Okay, so, because lawlessness will abound, the love of many 00:32:20.84\00:32:26.74 will grow cold, but, qualification, he who endures 00:32:26.74\00:32:31.81 to the end will be saved. 00:32:31.81\00:32:33.65 Now, Dr. Bishof shared with me that when it says but he who 00:32:33.65\00:32:36.99 endures to the end, that grammatically, it means, those 00:32:36.99\00:32:41.26 who keep loving when the world is not loving. 00:32:41.26\00:32:44.56 So, love is growing cold, but some people won't grow cold in 00:32:44.56\00:32:51.47 love, they will continue. 00:32:51.47\00:32:52.73 Now, watch this part. 00:32:52.73\00:32:54.34 But he who endures in love, the implication, to the end 00:32:54.34\00:32:58.41 shall be saved, and this gospel of the kingdom will be 00:32:58.41\00:33:02.44 preached in all the world as a witness, then shall the end 00:33:02.44\00:33:06.98 come. 00:33:06.98\00:33:07.95 Okay, this gospel is the gospel of enduring love. 00:33:07.95\00:33:11.32 And doesn't that make sense with Revelation chapter 12 and 00:33:11.32\00:33:15.46 verse 11 again? 00:33:15.46\00:33:16.66 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word 00:33:16.66\00:33:19.33 of their testimony and they loved not their lives even to 00:33:19.33\00:33:22.46 the point of death. 00:33:22.46\00:33:23.50 >>DAVID: They were so busy loving everybody else. 00:33:23.50\00:33:25.53 >>TY: Yeah, the world is growing cold with love, cold 00:33:25.53\00:33:29.24 with hatred and betrayal and selfishness and relationships 00:33:29.24\00:33:33.84 are being broken, integrity is being broken, and there's 00:33:33.84\00:33:38.01 going to be a people who continue to live out the love 00:33:38.01\00:33:42.88 of Jesus by not responding in kind to the hatred that is in 00:33:42.88\00:33:47.69 the world. 00:33:47.69\00:33:48.72 They'll draw warmth from the coldness of others. 00:33:48.72\00:33:50.69 >>DAVID: First of all, I love every bit of that, that's new 00:33:50.69\00:33:54.36 for me. 00:33:54.36\00:33:56.83 The world that we live in right now is a world in which 00:33:56.83\00:33:59.23 lots of people are really angry. 00:33:59.23\00:34:01.77 They're angry politically, they're angry socially, 00:34:01.77\00:34:05.04 they're angry financially, environmentally, like, we live 00:34:05.04\00:34:09.48 in a world right now where people are really angry. 00:34:09.48\00:34:12.11 They're frustrated. 00:34:12.11\00:34:13.18 And when you're angry about something, the natural 00:34:13.18\00:34:16.75 inclination, or the natural desire is to find somebody to 00:34:16.75\00:34:21.06 blame. 00:34:21.06\00:34:22.19 Hey, those and they and they and it creates this, like 00:34:22.19\00:34:26.19 sharp division of us and them. 00:34:26.19\00:34:27.96 >>TY: Yeah. 00:34:27.96\00:34:30.27 >>DAVID: These people at the end of time, sin is their 00:34:30.27\00:34:33.70 enemy, pride is their enemy. 00:34:33.70\00:34:37.14 >>JEFFREY: Selfishness is their enemy. 00:34:37.14\00:34:40.54 >>DAVID: People are not their enemy. 00:34:40.54\00:34:41.98 >>TY: Isn't that incredible? 00:34:41.98\00:34:44.58 >>JAMES: And in doing what Christ did, because isn't 00:34:44.58\00:34:46.01 there a verse in John, I can't find it right now, that says, 00:34:46.01\00:34:47.72 and having loved his own, he loved them unto the end. 00:34:47.72\00:34:53.05 >>TY: Chapter 13, verse 1. 00:34:53.05\00:34:54.36 >>JAMES: He loved them unto the end, that's it, chapter 00:34:54.36\00:34:55.76 13, verse 1. 00:34:55.76\00:34:56.79 And so, in that context, they're following the Lamb 00:34:56.79\00:34:59.29 wherever he goes. 00:34:59.29\00:35:00.43 They're following the Lamb. 00:35:00.43\00:35:02.53 >>TY: They're following him in a practical sense. 00:35:02.53\00:35:03.77 They're following him not just theoretically, theologically, 00:35:03.77\00:35:07.74 they're following him practically in the way they 00:35:07.74\00:35:10.64 treat people. 00:35:10.64\00:35:11.81 >>DAVID: Man, Lord have mercy, but how many times have we 00:35:11.81\00:35:13.54 heard or we ourselves been guilty of communicating that 00:35:13.54\00:35:17.71 at the end of the day, what it really boils down to is that 00:35:17.71\00:35:21.18 you've got all the right answers to the quiz? 00:35:21.18\00:35:24.09 You know what I'm saying? 00:35:24.09\00:35:25.65 That you know that you can dot all of your theological I's 00:35:25.65\00:35:29.46 and cross all your theological T's, and if you get the right 00:35:29.46\00:35:32.53 answers on the test, if you get a passing grade, then 00:35:32.53\00:35:34.63 you're in. 00:35:34.63\00:35:36.56 This is a very different picture. 00:35:36.56\00:35:38.00 This is a picture not of doctrinal knowledge or of 00:35:38.00\00:35:40.64 theological depth, not that those things are unimportant, 00:35:40.64\00:35:43.77 but of experiential religion. 00:35:43.77\00:35:46.31 These people have the name of the Father in their forehead. 00:35:46.31\00:35:50.08 >>JEFFREY: It says they follow they Lamb wherever he goes. 00:35:50.08\00:35:52.01 >>DAVID: But where did he go? 00:35:52.01\00:35:53.11 He went healing, he went preaching, he went 00:35:53.11\00:35:55.28 ministering. 00:35:55.28\00:35:56.48 He gave his life. 00:35:56.48\00:35:58.09 And this is the challenge. 00:35:58.09\00:35:59.52 >>JAMES: One thing I wanna add to that, it is theological 00:35:59.52\00:36:02.06 depth. 00:36:02.06\00:36:03.26 >>DAVID: Of course it is, but I'm saying, it's not merely. 00:36:03.26\00:36:05.73 >>JAMES: It's deeper theology. 00:36:05.73\00:36:07.50 >>DAVID: It's not merely academic. 00:36:07.50\00:36:09.56 I knew you'd like that, I knew you'd like that. 00:36:09.56\00:36:12.07 >>TY: Okay, so we have the everlasting gospel on the 00:36:12.07\00:36:14.07 table, we have not really, in any sense, exhausted that, 00:36:14.07\00:36:20.91 because we've defined it, but it's even broader. 00:36:20.91\00:36:23.81 >>DAVID: It's exhaustless. 00:36:23.81\00:36:24.98 >>TY: Yeah, it's exhaustless, and I wanna point out that 00:36:24.98\00:36:27.22 it's called everlasting. 00:36:27.22\00:36:28.68 We haven't emphasized that. 00:36:28.68\00:36:29.78 It's everlasting. 00:36:29.78\00:36:31.05 So, it transcends the event of Calvary. 00:36:31.05\00:36:34.46 >>JEFFREY: Of course it does. 00:36:34.46\00:36:35.92 >>TY: This gospel, in fact, you could say that Jesus dying 00:36:35.92\00:36:40.10 in self-sacrificing love on Calvary's cross was simply a 00:36:40.10\00:36:44.67 manifestation of what was in God's heart all along for all 00:36:44.67\00:36:47.47 eternity past, right? 00:36:47.47\00:36:49.40 And then, it just comes out into the open, in this 00:36:49.40\00:36:52.41 particular form and then, Jesus dies on the cross, he 00:36:52.41\00:36:57.08 goes into the tomb, he's resurrected, he ascends to 00:36:57.08\00:36:59.08 heaven. 00:36:59.08\00:37:00.18 And that love is the sustaining principle of the 00:37:00.18\00:37:02.15 universe, it just goes on and on and on. 00:37:02.15\00:37:04.15 >>JEFFREY: Isn't that why, in chapter 13, verse 8, it says 00:37:04.15\00:37:06.45 the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world? 00:37:06.45\00:37:09.22 So, in essence, in principle, in intent, at the heart of 00:37:09.22\00:37:13.33 God, it was a done deal. 00:37:13.33\00:37:15.36 The sacrifice was in his heart all along. 00:37:15.36\00:37:18.00 >>TY: Faithful love, relational love, is the only 00:37:18.00\00:37:21.24 eternally sustainable principle. 00:37:21.24\00:37:23.24 Everything else winds down and out. 00:37:23.24\00:37:27.34 Everything else is coming to an end. 00:37:27.34\00:37:29.88 There's only one thing that goes on and on and on and on 00:37:29.88\00:37:34.18 and on and can never be conquered, can never be 00:37:34.18\00:37:36.38 overcome, it never winds down, there's no ceiling, there's no 00:37:36.38\00:37:39.29 floor, there are no walls, and that is the everlasting love 00:37:39.29\00:37:43.09 of God. 00:37:43.09\00:37:44.23 >>DAVID: When you just said that, that's very poetic. 00:37:44.23\00:37:46.90 It reminded me of Paul's passage there, the height, 00:37:46.90\00:37:49.90 depth, breadth. 00:37:49.90\00:37:51.30 It just, it extends. 00:37:51.30\00:37:54.80 When you say that. 00:37:54.80\00:37:55.94 >>JEFFREY: It'd be a cool book, An Endless Falling in 00:37:55.94\00:37:58.84 Love. 00:37:58.84\00:37:59.84 >>TY: That's a good title for a book. 00:37:59.84\00:38:01.84 >>DAVID: And it's a good book. 00:38:01.84\00:38:03.04 I, this reminds me of Romans 1, where Paul says that in the 00:38:03.04\00:38:09.15 gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed. 00:38:09.15\00:38:13.76 It's disclosed. 00:38:13.76\00:38:15.22 It was always there. 00:38:15.22\00:38:16.36 >>JEFFREY: The rightness of God, yeah. 00:38:16.36\00:38:18.36 >>TY: Well, another way of saying that... 00:38:18.36\00:38:20.36 >>DAVID: It was always there and it's just revealed now. 00:38:20.36\00:38:22.33 The cross, the plan of salvation, the incarnation, 00:38:22.33\00:38:25.13 the resurrection, the ascension reveals what was 00:38:25.13\00:38:28.14 there all along, and check this out, if it hadn't been 00:38:28.14\00:38:31.41 revealed, it would still be there. 00:38:31.41\00:38:33.78 >>TY: That's right. 00:38:33.78\00:38:35.51 >>DAVID: Right? 00:38:35.51\00:38:36.68 It's not as though when Adam and Eve sinned and the world 00:38:36.68\00:38:39.58 has gone tumbling down into the mess in which we find 00:38:39.58\00:38:41.58 ourselves and God's like, ah, should we do something? 00:38:41.58\00:38:44.05 Help these guys out? 00:38:44.05\00:38:45.12 It was the moment there was sin, there was a Savior. 00:38:45.12\00:38:50.09 >>TY: Because he was there all along. 00:38:50.09\00:38:52.09 >>DAVID: It was there. 00:38:52.09\00:38:53.09 It was in the heart of God. 00:38:53.09\00:38:54.30 I say that the cross was tattooed on the heart of God 00:38:54.30\00:38:58.73 from eternity past. 00:38:58.73\00:38:59.90 >>JEFFREY: Again, from the foundation of the world, it's 00:38:59.90\00:39:01.90 in the text. 00:39:01.90\00:39:03.74 >>TY: We have to take a break even though we don't want to. 00:39:03.74\00:39:07.01 >>DAVID: These breaks kill us. 00:39:07.01\00:39:08.64 >>TY: They do, it slows down the momentum, but I think we 00:39:08.64\00:39:10.78 show something during the break that is okay. 00:39:10.78\00:39:12.78 >>DAVID: It's gotta be really good. 00:39:12.78\00:39:14.78 >>TY: Let's take a break and we'll come right back. 00:39:14.78\00:39:16.79 [Music] 00:39:16.79\00:39:28.10 Announcer: The Light Bearers Story is a short 00:40:21.88\00:40:25.45 past the first part of it, which is the everlasting 00:40:25.45\00:40:28.66 gospel. 00:40:28.66\00:40:29.66 >>DAVID: And it should be that way. 00:40:29.66\00:40:31.66 It should be a pit into which you fall and just hang around. 00:40:31.66\00:40:34.10 >>JEFFREY: Like a bottomless pit. 00:40:34.10\00:40:36.13 >>TY: A bottomless pit of glory. 00:40:36.13\00:40:38.13 >>JAMES: And I'd like to say one thing about this 00:40:38.13\00:40:40.14 everlasting gospel, it'll take me 30 seconds, maybe a minute. 00:40:40.14\00:40:42.14 >>DAVID: Okay, are you ready? 00:40:42.14\00:40:43.14 I'm gonna time you right now. 00:40:43.14\00:40:44.21 >>JAMES: This phrase is unique because the end time 00:40:44.21\00:40:46.47 proclamation, the group that proclaims this faces a unique 00:40:46.47\00:40:49.34 situation. 00:40:49.34\00:40:50.41 They face this dispensationalism. 00:40:50.41\00:40:52.45 They face this idea that the gospel is a New Testament 00:40:52.45\00:40:56.72 experience only, that the Old testament, there was something 00:40:56.72\00:40:59.19 else going on back then, there was an old covenant back there 00:40:59.19\00:41:01.26 and the people were saved in a different way, and in the New 00:41:01.26\00:41:03.99 Testament, now, we're saved by Jesus, now we're saved by 00:41:03.99\00:41:06.06 grace. 00:41:06.06\00:41:07.23 And what I'd like to suggest is that the kingdom of grace 00:41:07.23\00:41:09.83 was established by the cross, but was always the way God 00:41:09.83\00:41:13.94 ever saved anyone. 00:41:13.94\00:41:15.80 And that's why this phrase everlasting gospel is blessed. 00:41:15.80\00:41:18.41 >>JEFFREY: That's why it's everlasting. 00:41:18.41\00:41:20.41 >>JAMES: Yeah, and it's placed here in the center of this 00:41:20.41\00:41:22.41 message. 00:41:22.41\00:41:23.65 Because God wants the world to understand that salvation has 00:41:23.65\00:41:25.55 always ever been through the blood of the Lamb, that's all 00:41:25.55\00:41:28.58 I wanted to say, how long did I go? 00:41:28.58\00:41:30.59 >>DAVID: You went a minute and 13 seconds. 00:41:30.59\00:41:32.62 No, I'm just kidding. 00:41:32.62\00:41:34.06 I didn't time it. 00:41:34.06\00:41:35.49 >>TY: But summarizing the everlasting gospel, we could 00:41:35.49\00:41:38.33 say this, that Jesus himself is the embodiment of that 00:41:38.33\00:41:41.50 gospel. 00:41:41.50\00:41:42.70 So, that's why Paul, I think it's in 1 Corinthians 15 or 2 00:41:42.70\00:41:45.47 Corinthians 15. 00:41:45.47\00:41:46.47 >>JAMES: 1 Corinthians 15. 00:41:46.47\00:41:47.80 >>TY: 1 Corinthians 15, Paul basically says, I'll tell you 00:41:47.80\00:41:50.94 what the gospel is, it is the death, burial, and 00:41:50.94\00:41:53.41 resurrection and ascension of Jesus. 00:41:53.41\00:41:55.41 The Christ event is, in fact, the gospel in an incarnate 00:41:55.41\00:42:00.95 form. 00:42:00.95\00:42:02.12 Jesus lived out the reality of God's relational integrity 00:42:02.12\00:42:05.49 toward the human race and therefore, he's the embodiment 00:42:05.49\00:42:08.66 of the good news, the glad tidings, the happy message of 00:42:08.66\00:42:11.99 the gospel. 00:42:11.99\00:42:13.33 Jesus is the gospel. 00:42:13.33\00:42:14.66 We preach him, we're preaching the gospel. 00:42:14.66\00:42:17.20 It's not just a theory, it's not an idea, it is a living 00:42:17.20\00:42:20.34 personification of God's love in Christ. 00:42:20.34\00:42:23.27 >>JAMES: And it needs to go to every nation, kindred, tongue, 00:42:23.27\00:42:25.44 and people. 00:42:25.44\00:42:26.44 How many places is that? 00:42:26.44\00:42:27.71 Count them. 00:42:27.71\00:42:28.71 Quickly. 00:42:28.71\00:42:29.71 >>DAVID: That's all of them. 00:42:29.71\00:42:30.71 >>JAMES: But how many? 00:42:30.71\00:42:31.71 What's the number? 00:42:31.71\00:42:32.65 >>TY: I don't know what you're getting at. 00:42:32.65\00:42:34.72 >>JAMES: It's four. 00:42:34.72\00:42:35.72 The number is four. 00:42:35.72\00:42:36.72 Four. 00:42:36.72\00:42:37.72 >>TY: Why? 00:42:37.72\00:42:38.69 >>JAMES: Because we have looked at this number 00:42:38.69\00:42:40.72 systematically, I don't wanna say systematically, but 00:42:40.72\00:42:42.72 consistently through the book of Revelation. 00:42:42.72\00:42:44.96 You've got the four horses, remember the four horses? 00:42:44.96\00:42:47.30 You've got the four winds being held back. 00:42:47.30\00:42:48.50 God is holding back all of the anger and the trouble of the 00:42:48.50\00:42:54.10 world, the four horses represent a message that's 00:42:54.10\00:42:57.71 impacting the entire world, the four types of ground, the 00:42:57.71\00:43:00.64 seed that's sown, represent all the world, this message is 00:43:00.64\00:43:03.28 to go to all the world, north, south, east, and west. 00:43:03.28\00:43:05.71 And it's interesting because... 00:43:05.71\00:43:07.68 >>DAVID: So, that's the nation, kindred, tribe, and 00:43:07.68\00:43:10.15 people, is that the point that you're making? 00:43:10.15\00:43:11.49 >>JAMES: The point is is that it's four. 00:43:11.49\00:43:13.79 >>TY: Where is four is what he's asking. 00:43:13.79\00:43:16.16 >>DAVID: So, the nation, kindred, tongue, and people. 00:43:16.16\00:43:18.43 >>TY: Oh, okay. 00:43:18.43\00:43:19.63 >>JAMES: It's gonna be nation, kindred, tongue, and people. 00:43:19.63\00:43:20.40 Because there's other places... 00:43:20.40\00:43:21.53 >>DAVID: So, you're saying there's a universality to four 00:43:21.53\00:43:23.53 in Revelation. 00:43:23.53\00:43:24.73 >>JAMES: Yes, and that's the point. 00:43:24.73\00:43:26.27 >>TY: And it says to preach to those who dwell on the earth. 00:43:26.27\00:43:29.10 So, it's global. 00:43:29.10\00:43:30.57 >>JAMES: It's global. 00:43:30.57\00:43:31.37 That's the point. 00:43:31.37\00:43:32.47 Four is symbolic of this global inclusion, if you will. 00:43:32.47\00:43:36.58 In other words, no tribe is left out, no people left out, 00:43:36.58\00:43:38.91 no one is, God isn't saying, well, you... 00:43:38.91\00:43:41.08 >>DAVID: I cannot not say this point, and that is that the 00:43:41.08\00:43:45.35 promise of the gospel, out of which, the covenant out of 00:43:45.35\00:43:49.46 which the good news of the gospel grew was a promise that 00:43:49.46\00:43:51.69 God made to Abraham all the way back in Genesis 12, that 00:43:51.69\00:43:55.46 in you, Abraham, and in my calling of you and in your 00:43:55.46\00:43:58.30 descendants and in the fulfillment of my promise to 00:43:58.30\00:44:00.40 you, all the families of the earth will be blessed. 00:44:00.40\00:44:05.41 So, there's the everlasting gospel. 00:44:05.41\00:44:07.34 There's the continuity between the Abrahamic covenant, right 00:44:07.34\00:44:10.98 down through the Old Testament to, by the way, I have this 00:44:10.98\00:44:15.75 thing, have you heard my little thing about this page? 00:44:15.75\00:44:17.92 This is the only page in the bible that's not inspired. 00:44:17.92\00:44:21.42 I fold it over because I can't stand to look at it. 00:44:21.42\00:44:23.43 I don't wanna look at it. 00:44:23.43\00:44:24.59 >>JEFFREY: Actually, the table of contents isn't inspired 00:44:24.59\00:44:26.43 either. 00:44:26.43\00:44:27.46 >>DAVID: But starting from Genesis, when you get to 00:44:27.46\00:44:29.40 Genesis to Revelation 22. 00:44:29.40\00:44:30.60 >>TY: I hadn't heard the point they have, so I don't, and I 00:44:30.60\00:44:33.23 don't think everybody who's with us in this conversation. 00:44:33.23\00:44:35.84 >>DAVID: So, this here says the New Testament. 00:44:35.84\00:44:39.37 The New Testament. 00:44:39.37\00:44:40.68 So, it's not inspired. 00:44:40.68\00:44:42.44 'Cause you go from Malachi 4 to Matthew 1. 00:44:42.44\00:44:45.88 >>TY: And you're saying it's a continuum. 00:44:45.88\00:44:47.95 >>DAVID: It's an absolute continuum as the first verse 00:44:47.95\00:44:50.55 of Matthew makes clear. 00:44:50.55\00:44:51.65 The book of the genealogy, literally, the genesis, of 00:44:51.65\00:44:54.72 Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the son of Abraham. 00:44:54.72\00:44:57.26 >>TY: It's just continuing on. 00:44:57.26\00:44:58.36 >>DAVID: To which anybody who was handed just a New 00:44:58.36\00:45:00.30 Testament, would say, who's David and Abraham? 00:45:00.30\00:45:05.17 >>TY: [Laughter] 00:45:05.17\00:45:06.87 >>DAVID: And then you got this whole list. 00:45:06.87\00:45:08.14 Who's Obed? 00:45:08.14\00:45:08.84 Who's Ruth? 00:45:08.84\00:45:09.37 Who's Jess? 00:45:09.37\00:45:10.11 Who's Solomon? 00:45:10.11\00:45:10.97 Who's Rahoboam? 00:45:10.97\00:45:11.64 >>TY: So, it's one narrative. 00:45:11.64\00:45:12.74 >>DAVID: So, that's why I say I don't like it, there's 00:45:12.74\00:45:14.64 continuity from here to here. 00:45:14.64\00:45:17.38 Jesus is not some new thing. 00:45:17.38\00:45:20.55 He's new in the sense of the incarnation, that's new, but 00:45:20.55\00:45:22.22 the means by which the good news of the gospel, the Lamb 00:45:22.22\00:45:25.92 slain, go back to the Passover, that's a lamb slain. 00:45:25.92\00:45:29.02 Go to the sanctuary service, that's a lamb slain. 00:45:29.02\00:45:31.43 Come to the New Testament, this is the substance that was 00:45:31.43\00:45:33.73 anticipated by the shadow, so that's why I don't like this 00:45:33.73\00:45:36.30 page. 00:45:36.30\00:45:37.40 I don't think it belongs there because it introduces an 00:45:37.40\00:45:39.33 artificial distinction between the old, the dusty, old, 00:45:39.33\00:45:43.41 antiquated, and the bright shiny new. 00:45:43.41\00:45:45.71 >>JEFFREY: You seem angry, you seem upset about that. 00:45:45.71\00:45:47.71 [Laughter] 00:45:47.71\00:45:48.74 Let me give you a massage. 00:45:48.74\00:45:51.01 >>JAMES: In the Old Testament, they look forward to the Lamb, 00:45:51.01\00:45:54.42 in the New Testament, they look back at the Lamb. 00:45:54.42\00:45:56.25 >>DAVID: I'll take a hug from you, 'cause I'm cold. 00:45:56.25\00:45:58.12 >>JAMES: Everything centers in the Lamb, looking forward or 00:45:58.12\00:45:59.92 looking back, we're all looking at the Lamb. 00:45:59.92\00:46:01.89 >>TY: Okay, so, if I understand correctly, we're in 00:46:01.89\00:46:03.99 our third segment. 00:46:03.99\00:46:05.19 >>JAMES: We're on our third segment. 00:46:05.19\00:46:06.39 >>TY: We're on our third segment, so, let's move 00:46:06.39\00:46:07.83 through the remainder of the first angel's message because 00:46:07.83\00:46:10.90 we got a lot to cover here. 00:46:10.90\00:46:12.73 >>DAVID: No, we don't, we only have verse 7 to cover. 00:46:12.73\00:46:14.34 >>TY: Yeah, but there's a lot in that verse. 00:46:14.34\00:46:16.04 Okay, there are elements. 00:46:16.04\00:46:17.47 Number one, and I'll just throw them out, we've already 00:46:17.47\00:46:19.57 read it, but I'll throw them out and you guys can just go 00:46:19.57\00:46:21.11 wild commenting on it. 00:46:21.11\00:46:22.31 >>DAVID: Let me throw them out and you go wild commenting. 00:46:22.31\00:46:23.85 I wanna throw, okay, no, you go ahead. 00:46:23.85\00:46:26.65 Fear God, that's element number one, give glory to him, 00:46:26.65\00:46:30.55 that's element number two, the hour of his judgement has 00:46:30.55\00:46:33.52 come, that's element number three, and worship him who 00:46:33.52\00:46:36.02 made heaven and earth, that's element number four. 00:46:36.02\00:46:39.66 So, there's four elements in verse 7. 00:46:39.66\00:46:43.67 What is being spoken of when it says fear God? 00:46:43.67\00:46:47.37 Are we really being asked? 00:46:47.37\00:46:49.44 >>DAVID: Everybody take one. 00:46:49.44\00:46:50.54 >>TY: Everybody take one. 00:46:50.54\00:46:51.51 I have fear God? 00:46:51.51\00:46:52.67 >>DAVID: Give glory, judgement, worship. 00:46:52.67\00:46:56.41 >>TY: Can I comment on give glory when someone else does? 00:46:56.41\00:46:58.51 >>DAVID: Sure, but just start with this. 00:46:58.51\00:47:00.12 >>TY: Okay, fear God. 00:47:00.12\00:47:01.55 When this passage says fear God, we can go one of two ways 00:47:03.65\00:47:09.16 with this. 00:47:09.16\00:47:10.36 It's either saying, hey, in the light of this really good 00:47:10.36\00:47:13.80 news of who God is, this everlasting gospel, tremble 00:47:13.80\00:47:17.03 and be terrified and run from him, or the passage is saying 00:47:17.03\00:47:22.27 fear God in the sense of, boy, in the light of God's love for 00:47:22.27\00:47:27.04 you, isn't that so amazing and incredible that it should just 00:47:27.04\00:47:31.11 blow your mind with awe? 00:47:31.11\00:47:33.42 It's that kind of fear that is being articulated here. 00:47:33.42\00:47:37.02 Not the tremble and run away from, but it's more the 00:47:37.02\00:47:41.76 tremble with excitement and run to. 00:47:41.76\00:47:44.76 Not tremble with terror and run away, tremble, but there's 00:47:44.76\00:47:48.16 trembling. 00:47:48.16\00:47:49.13 I mean, this God is so awesome, you can't not 00:47:49.13\00:47:51.73 tremble. 00:47:51.73\00:47:53.10 I mean, sometimes, we need to realize that love itself, 00:47:53.10\00:47:57.44 while it doesn't produce terror, it does produce a 00:47:57.44\00:48:01.48 really healthy sense of boy, he's like that and I'm not. 00:48:01.48\00:48:05.68 He's like that and I'm not. 00:48:05.68\00:48:08.05 >>JEFFREY: Can I share a verse on this? 00:48:08.05\00:48:11.15 In Jeremiah chapter 32 when it talks about the new covenant 00:48:11.15\00:48:15.09 experience where in the everlasting gospel, we will 00:48:15.09\00:48:18.03 receive a new heart. 00:48:18.03\00:48:19.23 The promise says, I will make an everlasting covenant with 00:48:19.23\00:48:24.13 them, I will not turn away from doing good to them, 00:48:24.13\00:48:27.10 another translation says, I will never stop doing good to 00:48:27.10\00:48:29.87 them, but I will put my fear in their hearts so that they 00:48:29.87\00:48:33.94 will not depart from me. 00:48:33.94\00:48:35.48 So, there's this weird paradox. 00:48:35.48\00:48:39.35 Chapter 32, verse 40, there's this weird paradox where you 00:48:39.35\00:48:44.95 normally fear somebody when they do bad to you, not when 00:48:44.95\00:48:48.49 they do good to you. 00:48:48.49\00:48:49.72 But the text says, God says, I will never stop doing good to 00:48:49.72\00:48:52.86 them, and in consequence of the way I relate to them in 00:48:52.86\00:48:56.36 only doing good to them, it will inspire fear for me. 00:48:56.36\00:49:00.57 >>TY: Okay, adding to that, I can't find it, but James may 00:49:00.57\00:49:04.27 know where this verse is quickly. 00:49:04.27\00:49:06.27 >>JAMES: Psalm 130:3 and 4, or Psalm 147 verse 11? 00:49:06.27\00:49:08.41 >>TY: It's the one that associates forgiveness with 00:49:08.41\00:49:11.25 fear. 00:49:11.25\00:49:12.25 >>JAMES: Yeah, Psalm 130:3 and 4. 00:49:12.25\00:49:14.25 >>TY: Watch this, guys, what is it, Psalm 133? 00:49:14.25\00:49:16.45 >>JAMES: 130, verses 3 and 4. 00:49:16.45\00:49:18.92 >>TY: Verses 3 and 4, 130, verses 3 and 4. 00:49:18.92\00:49:23.06 This is amazing to me, I don't even, I don't even have it 00:49:23.06\00:49:28.43 underlined here, verses 3 and 4, if you, Lord, should mark 00:49:28.43\00:49:33.00 iniquities, or if you're keeping track of our sins, 00:49:33.00\00:49:36.74 okay, oh, Lord, who could stand? 00:49:36.74\00:49:39.44 But there is forgiveness with you that you may be feared. 00:49:39.44\00:49:44.08 Isn't that amazing? 00:49:44.08\00:49:46.31 So, God is so good that he forgives and that produces 00:49:46.31\00:49:53.12 fear? 00:49:53.12\00:49:54.32 Well, it can't be the kind of fear that would make you run 00:49:54.32\00:49:56.12 away, it's gotta be the kind of fear that puts you on your 00:49:56.12\00:49:58.73 face with awe. 00:49:58.73\00:50:00.70 Not the kind that sends you away, but sends you to because 00:50:00.70\00:50:04.17 forgiveness is such a mind-blowing thing that God 00:50:04.17\00:50:07.54 would treat us in that way. 00:50:07.54\00:50:09.20 So, in other words, I'm saying, you assigned fear to 00:50:09.20\00:50:12.71 me in the first angel's message. 00:50:12.71\00:50:14.94 I'm suggesting that the fear of the first angel's message 00:50:14.94\00:50:18.25 is the fear of awe at the forgiving mercy of God that 00:50:18.25\00:50:22.68 would drive us to him, not away from him. 00:50:22.68\00:50:25.79 >>JAMES: Alright, Ephesians chapter 2. 00:50:25.79\00:50:28.59 >>DAVID: Wait, are you going for give glory? 00:50:28.59\00:50:30.59 >>JAMES: Yeah. 00:50:30.59\00:50:31.59 >>DAVID: Okay, give glory. 00:50:31.59\00:50:32.79 >>JAMES: Ephesians chapter 2 verse 8 and it's just gonna be 00:50:32.79\00:50:34.93 one verse, it's a lot, it's gonna be one verse right here, 00:50:34.93\00:50:37.13 Ephesians 2, verse 8 basically is telling us how we're saved. 00:50:37.13\00:50:40.84 IT says, for by grace, you are saved through faith, not of 00:50:40.84\00:50:45.81 yourselves, it is the gift of God, verse 9, not of your 00:50:45.81\00:50:48.41 works, lest any man should glory. 00:50:48.41\00:50:50.41 Glory to God is to realize we're saved by grace. 00:50:50.41\00:50:52.75 >>TY: The same Greek word, isn't it? 00:50:52.75\00:50:54.75 >>JAMES: Yes, it's saved by grace through faith. 00:50:54.75\00:50:56.85 And by the way, just to tie in with what Ty said, because the 00:50:56.85\00:51:00.29 phrase everlasting gospel has to inform every phrase that 00:51:00.29\00:51:03.89 follows. 00:51:03.89\00:51:05.06 The everlasting gospel has to inform and define what it 00:51:05.06\00:51:08.46 means to fear God, what it means to glory God, what it 00:51:08.46\00:51:10.77 means to have these judgements come, what does it mean to 00:51:10.77\00:51:13.30 worship him? 00:51:13.30\00:51:14.24 >>DAVID: That's the umbrella under which... 00:51:14.24\00:51:16.30 >>JAMES: Yes, it has to fall under that. 00:51:16.30\00:51:18.31 It was grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my 00:51:18.31\00:51:23.18 fears relieved. 00:51:23.18\00:51:25.81 >>DAVID: God forbid that I should glory, save in the 00:51:25.81\00:51:29.62 cross. 00:51:29.62\00:51:30.65 >>TY: Okay, we have four minutes left, so we better 00:51:30.65\00:51:32.75 hurry up and go to judgement. 00:51:32.75\00:51:34.92 Is it judgement you have? 00:51:34.92\00:51:36.32 >>DAVID: He's got judgement. 00:51:36.32\00:51:38.36 >>JEFFREY: Fear God, give glory to him for the hour of 00:51:39.43\00:51:42.13 his judgement has come. 00:51:42.13\00:51:43.40 We've been identifying judgement as the vindication 00:51:43.40\00:51:47.64 of the character of God, and I love how it says for, fear 00:51:47.64\00:51:50.57 God, we've described, his goodness towards us, his 00:51:50.57\00:51:53.17 forgiveness. 00:51:53.17\00:51:54.34 Glory to him, salvation by grace, by faith, and then, it 00:51:54.34\00:51:57.45 says, because, for the hour of his judgement has come. 00:51:57.45\00:52:01.35 In other words, in the context of the judgement, and the 00:52:01.35\00:52:05.22 vindication of the character of God, that's the context 00:52:05.22\00:52:07.72 that scripture positions the judgment in. 00:52:07.72\00:52:09.72 So, in the judgement, we're not really the ones on trial, 00:52:09.72\00:52:12.96 God is actually the one on trial in the judgement. 00:52:12.96\00:52:15.83 And what vindicates him is the outflowing of what causes the 00:52:15.83\00:52:20.47 fear of God and he glory of God, which is the character of 00:52:20.47\00:52:22.77 God. 00:52:22.77\00:52:23.84 >>TY: Is there an instance, Jeffrey, in which the 00:52:23.84\00:52:24.44 judgement goes both ways? 00:52:24.44\00:52:25.37 >>JEFFREY: I think so. 00:52:25.37\00:52:26.57 >>TY: Okay, so it's not that we're not being judged, he is, 00:52:26.57\00:52:29.98 it's that we're assessing and judging him, which reacts in 00:52:29.98\00:52:35.55 judgement on us. 00:52:35.55\00:52:36.55 Right? 00:52:36.55\00:52:37.65 Because my opinion, the opinion I form of God and his 00:52:37.65\00:52:42.59 character is going to determine my position in the 00:52:42.59\00:52:46.06 judgement, right? 00:52:46.06\00:52:47.50 You have the next part. 00:52:47.50\00:52:48.76 >>DAVID: Anything about the hour? 00:52:48.76\00:52:50.77 >>JEFFREY: Well, we've been on timeframes, we've been on 00:52:50.77\00:52:53.17 timeframes. 00:52:53.17\00:52:54.34 >>TY: He's trying to hurry though because of the minutes 00:52:54.34\00:52:56.17 we have. 00:52:56.17\00:52:57.34 >>JEFFREY: In Revelation 10, and we talked about the 120 00:52:57.34\00:52:59.44 day prophecy and fulfillment in 1844 and so, this is the 00:52:59.44\00:53:03.14 immediacy of this message. 00:53:03.14\00:53:04.48 >>JAMES: One other thing, in 30 seconds, the woman that was 00:53:04.48\00:53:07.45 caught in adultery poured out an alabaster box on the feet 00:53:07.45\00:53:10.39 of Christ and was judged by those around, but it wasn't 00:53:10.39\00:53:13.96 just her that was judged. 00:53:13.96\00:53:15.82 When the judgement came, the accusation was, this man, if 00:53:15.82\00:53:20.20 he would understand what kind of woman this is, God and man 00:53:20.20\00:53:23.10 are in the judgement together because the way God saves us 00:53:23.10\00:53:26.53 and the way God treats us is being judged, evaluated. 00:53:26.53\00:53:30.61 And the way we respond vindicates God's character. 00:53:30.61\00:53:33.84 And that's why Jesus said, wherever the gospel's 00:53:33.84\00:53:37.08 preached. 00:53:37.08\00:53:38.08 >>DAVID: This story will be told. 00:53:38.08\00:53:40.08 >>JAMES: Yes. 00:53:40.08\00:53:41.28 Because, and then, what the woman does is she hides behind 00:53:41.28\00:53:43.08 Jesus and Jesus vindicates her. 00:53:43.08\00:53:44.05 That's the judgement, we hide behind Jesus. 00:53:44.05\00:53:46.09 >>TY: To Jeffrey's, I'll just add one bible verse to the 00:53:46.09\00:53:48.46 judgement, and that's Daniel chapter 7, where the judgement 00:53:48.46\00:53:53.26 is described and it says the judgement is made in favor of 00:53:53.26\00:53:57.37 the saints of the most high God in Daniel 7. 00:53:57.37\00:54:00.04 So, I think we can say, as James was pointing out, that 00:54:00.04\00:54:03.37 everything is defined under the umbrella of the 00:54:03.37\00:54:05.97 everlasting gospel, so we can say that the judgement, even 00:54:05.97\00:54:09.31 though that word doesn't register as good news, is a 00:54:09.31\00:54:12.08 part of the gospel. 00:54:12.08\00:54:13.21 It's good news because the judgement is in favor of the 00:54:13.21\00:54:17.49 saints from Godward toward the saints and the judgement is in 00:54:17.49\00:54:22.29 favor of God from human beings to God. 00:54:22.29\00:54:25.33 So, both ways. 00:54:25.33\00:54:26.33 >>DAVID: Just and true are your ways. 00:54:26.33\00:54:28.30 >>TY: Okay, you have a minute. 00:54:28.30\00:54:29.43 >>DAVID: Well, it says it right at the end of verse 7, 00:54:29.43\00:54:31.97 worship him who made the heaven and the earth, the sea 00:54:31.97\00:54:35.50 and the springs of water, as we've noted numerous times, 00:54:35.50\00:54:38.77 the book of Revelation is founded, grounded, and based 00:54:38.77\00:54:41.88 upon the Old Testament, it borrows language from the Old 00:54:41.88\00:54:44.15 Testament, but this passage here is probably the single 00:54:44.15\00:54:47.52 longest quotation, verbatim quotation from the Old 00:54:47.52\00:54:51.42 Testament, and it's lifted straight out of the 10 00:54:51.42\00:54:54.69 commandments, but not just any commandment, it's lifted out 00:54:54.69\00:54:57.26 of the fourth commandment, which was the Sabbath 00:54:57.26\00:54:59.26 commandment, which was a memorial and a symbol and a 00:54:59.26\00:55:05.57 day of worshipping God as the creator. 00:55:05.57\00:55:08.57 Which gives us a very strong indication that there's going 00:55:08.57\00:55:12.61 to be a return, a significant return to worshipping God as 00:55:12.61\00:55:16.34 the creator in the context of end time events, the Sabbath, 00:55:16.34\00:55:20.95 it's saying here, is going to be significant. 00:55:20.95\00:55:23.12 Keep your eyes open for the Sabbath and for worshipping 00:55:23.12\00:55:26.19 God as creator. 00:55:26.19\00:55:27.29 >>TY: Excellent. 00:55:27.29\00:55:28.49 And not only is the Sabbath a memorial of creation, but if 00:55:28.49\00:55:32.66 we had time, we could also flesh out that it's a memorial 00:55:32.66\00:55:34.93 of redemption. 00:55:34.93\00:55:36.10 Which, again, puts it where James put all of this, under 00:55:36.10\00:55:38.97 the umbrella of the everlasting gospel. 00:55:38.97\00:55:41.47 Wow. 00:55:41.47\00:55:42.57 So, the first angel's message is an extremely powerful 00:55:42.57\00:55:46.11 message that, according to Revelation 14, needs to go 00:55:46.11\00:55:50.08 global, it needs to go viral, it needs to go to the whole 00:55:50.08\00:55:52.95 world, and Table Talk itself, right now, is a part of that 00:55:52.95\00:55:57.45 taking global the everlasting gospel.
