[Music] 00:00:07.13\00:00:16.63 I'm thoroughly enjoying these conversations--I don't 00:00:17.73\00:00:22.06 know about you guys. 00:00:22.06\00:00:24.43 >>Jeffrey just said a moment ago that--that--what did you say? 00:00:24.43\00:00:26.86 This feels like home. 00:00:26.86\00:00:27.96 >>Yeah it feels like home. 00:00:27.96\00:00:29.03 >>Like we're supposed to be. 00:00:29.03\00:00:30.03 >>At the table. 00:00:30.03\00:00:30.90 >>Yeah love it table talk. 00:00:30.90\00:00:32.16 >>And it's incredible to think that God has made us in such a 00:00:32.16\00:00:36.93 way that we can think thoughts and then articulate them to one 00:00:36.93\00:00:40.40 another and I can share something with you. 00:00:40.40\00:00:43.96 You can share something with me. 00:00:43.96\00:00:45.20 And one of the great things about this is--is new thoughts 00:00:45.20\00:00:49.13 emerge out of this sharing of thoughts back and forth. 00:00:49.13\00:00:52.36 And we grow just by interaction. 00:00:52.36\00:00:55.10 We're hoping that lots of other people would join this 00:00:55.10\00:00:58.86 conversation as well. 00:00:58.86\00:01:00.93 And, and just take in these things that make our hearts just 00:01:00.93\00:01:05.36 soar with excitement. 00:01:05.36\00:01:07.56 This is the subject matter that really matters most. 00:01:07.56\00:01:12.40 We're looking at very basic things and I don't know about 00:01:12.40\00:01:15.30 you but in the previous two conversations that we've had it 00:01:15.30\00:01:19.30 turns out that the basic things are the deep things. 00:01:19.30\00:01:24.96 >>That's right. 00:01:24.96\00:01:25.96 >>Sometimes people think, you know. 00:01:25.96\00:01:27.36 we need to get into subject matter that is, ya know, way 00:01:27.36\00:01:29.23 beyond the elementary truths of human nature and God's character 00:01:29.23\00:01:33.20 and uh there's deeper stuff out there. 00:01:33.20\00:01:35.56 I had somebody say to me recently, "ya know, you guys, 00:01:35.56\00:01:38.60 you need to talk about...you need to talk about the deep 00:01:38.60\00:01:41.10 stuff like, like, ya know... 00:01:41.10\00:01:42.73 >>Bible prophecy. 00:01:44.06\00:01:45.00 >>Bible prophecy. 00:01:45.00\00:01:46.26 Masonic order and what people are up to in the dark circles. 00:01:46.26\00:01:49.66 >>Conspiracy theories. 00:01:49.66\00:01:51.03 >>Yeah all that stuff. 00:01:51.03\00:01:51.96 That's not the deep stuff. 00:01:51.96\00:01:53.03 That's the shallow stuff. 00:01:53.03\00:01:54.56 And that stuff, you know, it's up for grabs. 00:01:54.56\00:01:58.30 What's true? 00:01:58.30\00:01:59.56 What's not? 00:01:59.56\00:02:00.40 Not bible prophecy, of course. 00:02:00.40\00:02:01.60 That's certain. 00:02:01.60\00:02:02.83 But we're talking about things that might seem elementary. 00:02:02.83\00:02:06.16 But we began just talking about, well, what is the bible. 00:02:06.16\00:02:09.66 What is the bible? 00:02:09.66\00:02:11.20 >>That's hardly elementary. 00:02:11.20\00:02:12.70 >>It is the word of God communicated to us in this 00:02:12.70\00:02:16.00 written form. 00:02:16.00\00:02:16.96 Then we said what the bible is about? 00:02:16.96\00:02:18.76 And we discovered that God's word is about his character, his 00:02:18.76\00:02:23.23 love and the story that's playing out. 00:02:23.23\00:02:25.30 >>And nothing is deeper than that. 00:02:25.30\00:02:26.93 >>Nothing is deeper than that. 00:02:26.93\00:02:28.43 >>That's right. 00:02:28.43\00:02:29.33 >>In fact that's bible prophecy too. 00:02:29.33\00:02:30.83 Bible prophecy is really all about Jesus. 00:02:30.83\00:02:32.53 The first prophecy of the bible is about Jesus. 00:02:32.53\00:02:35.26 >>That's right. 00:02:35.26\00:02:36.50 >>It's about the enmity that Jesus put between us and Satan 00:02:36.50\00:02:38.33 so all of bible prophecy is really this. 00:02:38.33\00:02:40.53 Basically it's God. 00:02:40.53\00:02:43.50 Who is God? 00:02:43.50\00:02:44.73 Why did God make us? 00:02:44.73\00:02:45.56 Why are we here? 00:02:45.56\00:02:46.76 That's what bible prophecy. 00:02:46.76\00:02:47.93 >>It shows that history is directional. 00:02:47.93\00:02:49.36 We're going somewhere. 00:02:49.36\00:02:50.53 God has a plan. 00:02:50.53\00:02:51.80 >>It is true though as Preachers and Teachers we've all had the 00:02:51.80\00:02:54.06 experience ofú preaching a great message on the gospel around the 00:02:54.06\00:02:56.76 love of God. 00:02:56.76\00:02:58.00 The goodness of God and had somebody come up and say yeah, 00:02:58.00\00:02:59.66 yeah, yeah, yeah--we get all that. 00:02:59.66\00:03:01.03 What's there--you know, as if we've moved beyond that now 00:03:01.03\00:03:05.23 let's get to the--it's really unfortunate. 00:03:05.23\00:03:06.96 But what we're seeing here--what you're saying Ty is that, is 00:03:06.96\00:03:09.76 that--we're having what? 00:03:09.76\00:03:11.16 Forty-five minute conversations, fifty minute conversations and 00:03:11.16\00:03:14.06 we're just beginning to scratch the surface of the surface of 00:03:14.06\00:03:16.06 the surface. 00:03:16.06\00:03:17.20 There's so much depth below this. 00:03:17.20\00:03:19.56 I want to say something too so that those that are listening 00:03:19.56\00:03:22.83 into the conversation can appreciate. 00:03:22.83\00:03:24.03 And I think for us as well. 00:03:24.03\00:03:25.26 These are the things we talk about when the cameras aren't 00:03:25.26\00:03:27.76 on. 00:03:27.76\00:03:28.56 >>Mhm. 00:03:28.56\00:03:29.83 >>Right the cameras are rolling and we're having a conversation. 00:03:29.83\00:03:31.53 But you turn those cameras off in every instance the 00:03:31.53\00:03:33.06 conversation just keeps going. 00:03:33.06\00:03:35.26 If Ty's over to my house or James is over to my house or I'm 00:03:35.26\00:03:37.56 over to your house or Jeffrey. 00:03:37.56\00:03:38.93 What are we sitting down--we're talking about the goodness of 00:03:38.93\00:03:41.13 God, the love of God, scripture. 00:03:41.13\00:03:42.40 Not that we don't also talk about other things. 00:03:42.40\00:03:44.26 But that this is a saturative thing. 00:03:44.26\00:03:47.16 This is an authentic thing. 00:03:47.16\00:03:48.36 This is what's on our mind. 00:03:48.36\00:03:49.43 This is our passion. 00:03:49.43\00:03:50.90 >>Literally everything is spiritual. 00:03:50.90\00:03:53.36 This segregation between spiritual and secular is a false 00:03:53.36\00:03:59.10 segregation. 00:03:59.10\00:04:00.30 It's nowhere in the bible. 00:04:00.30\00:04:01.56 According to the bible all of reality is spiritual reality. 00:04:01.56\00:04:04.80 And it's either good spiritual stuff is going on or bad 00:04:04.80\00:04:10.20 spiritual stuff is going on. 00:04:10.20\00:04:11.46 So, the fact is we're talking about--we're conversing about 00:04:11.46\00:04:15.46 things that matter deeply in relation to God in all of our 00:04:15.46\00:04:20.00 relationships as human beings to everything we do, our work, our 00:04:20.00\00:04:24.50 education, our marriages, our relationships with our kids. 00:04:24.50\00:04:28.40 Everything is impacted by our perception of God's character. 00:04:28.40\00:04:32.40 >>That's right. 00:04:32.40\00:04:33.56 >>So what are we talking about today? 00:04:33.56\00:04:34.60 >Yeah. 00:04:34.60\00:04:35.46 >>Well we had a progression of thought. 00:04:35.46\00:04:36.53 We began with basically saying what is the bible? 00:04:36.53\00:04:38.40 We moved on to what and who is God? 00:04:38.40\00:04:40.33 And I think the logical next step is creation. 00:04:40.33\00:04:44.50 >>Of course. 00:04:44.50\00:04:45.76 >>We talked about God and. 00:04:45.76\00:04:47.06 >>God's original plan. 00:04:47.06\00:04:48.33 >>David brought out the point that, you know, if you just draw 00:04:48.33\00:04:50.86 a line and you put another line, a vertical line on the 00:04:50.86\00:04:55.30 horizontal line, you say all of this represents eternity past, 00:04:55.30\00:04:57.73 precreation. 00:04:57.73\00:05:00.40 Where there's just God and God alone. 00:05:00.40\00:05:01.53 And then the line this side is creation. 00:05:01.53\00:05:03.03 And we talked about well what was going on here? 00:05:03.03\00:05:06.40 What was God like for creation? 00:05:06.40\00:05:07.80 Well check this out. 00:05:07.80\00:05:09.46 At some point God said--there was a conversation where God 00:05:09.46\00:05:13.50 said let us make man in our own image. 00:05:13.50\00:05:18.16 That's God conversing within the Godhead and say hey let's do 00:05:18.16\00:05:22.36 something. 00:05:22.36\00:05:24.40 >>Elohim. 00:05:24.40\00:05:25.43 >>Yeah, let's do something. 00:05:25.43\00:05:26.46 What are we gonna do? 00:05:26.46\00:05:27.23 Create. 00:05:27.23\00:05:27.96 >So can I, can I just read that? 00:05:27.96\00:05:29.66 >Sure. 00:05:29.66\00:05:30.83 >>So Genesis 1:26 it say's let us make man in our image 00:05:30.83\00:05:33.73 according to our likeness. 00:05:33.73\00:05:35.00 Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds 00:05:35.00\00:05:38.10 of the air, and over the cattle over all the earth over every 00:05:38.10\00:05:41.30 creeping thing that creeps on the earth. 00:05:41.30\00:05:43.60 So God created man in his own image and the image of God he 00:05:43.60\00:05:45.53 created them, male and female. 00:05:45.53\00:05:47.56 He created them then God blessed them then God said to them be 00:05:47.56\00:05:50.06 fruitful and multiply, fill the earth, subdue it, have dominion 00:05:50.06\00:05:52.93 over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, over every 00:05:52.93\00:05:55.43 living thing that moves on the earth. 00:05:55.43\00:05:56.93 >>Fabulous. 00:05:56.93\00:05:58.13 >>So I love the idea there, Ty, you're saying there's a 00:05:58.13\00:05:59.83 conversation that's taking place here between the Father, Son and 00:05:59.83\00:06:02.30 Holy Spirit. 00:06:02.30\00:06:03.63 There's a conversation within the Godhead, Elohim. 00:06:03.63\00:06:06.73 Hey let's make man in our image. 00:06:06.73\00:06:09.33 Those are all plural pronouns. 00:06:09.33\00:06:10.50 Us is plural pronoun. 00:06:10.50\00:06:11.60 Our is plural possessive pronoun. 00:06:11.60\00:06:12.76 Them, them is a plural pronoun. 00:06:12.76\00:06:16.76 The whole thing is wrapped in plurality. 00:06:16.76\00:06:18.83 >>So God who is an us and an our creates a them. 00:06:18.83\00:06:21.56 It's not that God is saying let I will create him. 00:06:21.56\00:06:27.36 Or I will create her, singular. 00:06:27.36\00:06:29.73 It's amazing this relational God creates relationship. 00:06:29.73\00:06:33.30 >>It's necessary because God is love. 00:06:33.30\00:06:34.90 We established that in a different conversation. 00:06:34.90\00:06:37.53 >>Oh pull that out-necessary. 00:06:37.53\00:06:38.96 >>Because God is love. 00:06:38.96\00:06:40.30 It's necessary for there to be some sort of plurality. 00:06:40.30\00:06:43.76 Because love can't exist as a singular thing. 00:06:43.76\00:06:47.40 >>An isolation. 00:06:47.40\00:06:48.40 >>Yeah, it's isolation to anything else. 00:06:48.40\00:06:50.80 There has to be the receiving end of things. 00:06:50.80\00:06:52.36 And so God being a community in of himself his creation reflects 00:06:52.36\00:06:57.00 that community so he creates a race that's also capable of-of 00:06:57.00\00:07:02.60 love. 00:07:02.60\00:07:03.63 >>But you said it's also, it's necessary. 00:07:03.63\00:07:05.26 It wasn't optional with God, really. 00:07:05.26\00:07:09.00 I mean imagine that you could play the violin or the cello at 00:07:09.00\00:07:14.96 a virtuoso level and choosing simply to never do it. 00:07:14.96\00:07:18.86 >>Mhm. 00:07:18.86\00:07:20.86 >>You see what I'm saying. 00:07:20.86\00:07:22.60 >>Mhm. 00:07:22.60\00:07:23.46 >>God has all this creative capacity. 00:07:23.46\00:07:24.13 He's going to express it. 00:07:24.13\00:07:26.66 He's going to create. 00:07:26.66\00:07:28.36 So we could say God is not only creator but just a little fine, 00:07:28.36\00:07:34.10 nuance of a change, God is creative. 00:07:34.10\00:07:36.83 >>Absolutely. 00:07:36.83\00:07:38.33 >>Isn't he? 00:07:38.33\00:07:40.13 >>Certainly. 00:07:40.13\00:07:41.20 >>Could I just read a great little quotation? 00:07:41.20\00:07:42.96 This is a quotation that I have come back to again and again in 00:07:42.96\00:07:47.23 my own understanding of who and what God is. 00:07:47.23\00:07:49.13 And it's actually written by a Christian fellow by the name of 00:07:49.13\00:07:52.53 Millard Erickson. 00:07:52.53\00:07:54.26 And he writes this--He says if reality is fundamentally 00:07:54.26\00:07:58.23 physical. 00:07:58.23\00:07:59.50 Then the primary force binding it together is electromagnetic. 00:07:59.50\00:08:03.13 If however, reality is fundamentally social, then the 00:08:03.13\00:08:07.16 most powerful constituting force is that which binds persons 00:08:07.16\00:08:10.46 together namely love. 00:08:10.46\00:08:12.36 >>I love that statement. 00:08:12.36\00:08:13.96 >>So let me just put a little flesh on that, you know, we've 00:08:13.96\00:08:17.30 got these magnets at the table for us to sort of play with. 00:08:17.30\00:08:19.76 But it's a good illustration. 00:08:19.76\00:08:22.63 What Erickson is saying is that if reality at its most basic is 00:08:22.63\00:08:24.70 just atoms and molecules in motion. 00:08:24.70\00:08:27.50 Then the most powerful force in the universe that's keeping 00:08:27.50\00:08:30.83 everything together is electromagnetism. 00:08:30.83\00:08:32.93 Right? 00:08:32.93\00:08:34.53 It's just; it's the thing that keeps the proton and neutron in 00:08:34.53\00:08:36.60 the nucleus of the atom. 00:08:36.60\00:08:37.73 It's just chk. 00:08:37.73\00:08:39.23 It's electromagnetic. 00:08:39.23\00:08:40.80 >> It's purely physical. 00:08:40.80\00:08:41.46 >>It's purely physical. 00:08:41.46\00:08:42.66 He says, but if reality is fundamentally not physical but 00:08:42.66\00:08:43.80 social right? 00:08:43.80\00:08:45.76 As scripture reveals, Father, Son and Holy Spirit as a 00:08:45.76\00:08:47.80 relational, social, familial entity he says then the most 00:08:47.80\00:08:52.03 powerful, constituting, binding force in the world is love. 00:08:52.03\00:08:57.86 And isn't that true? 00:08:57.86\00:08:59.13 I mean that is the thing--life is--relationships are the stuff 00:08:59.13\00:09:03.60 of which life is made. 00:09:03.60\00:09:04.66 >>I knew this at a very early age, personally. 00:09:04.66\00:09:06.70 Um I--this is a little weird to share this. 00:09:06.70\00:09:09.76 But it just came into my mind. 00:09:09.76\00:09:11.03 Um somebody asked me recently--I don't know if you've ever done 00:09:11.03\00:09:15.36 this exercise. 00:09:15.36\00:09:16.63 But somebody said what is the very first thing that you ever 00:09:16.63\00:09:19.96 wrote to somebody else? 00:09:19.96\00:09:22.60 Going all the way back in your memory-a little kid or teenager. 00:09:22.60\00:09:26.56 What's the very first thing? 00:09:26.56\00:09:27.83 >>I can't remember that. 00:09:27.83\00:09:29.20 >>No, seriously someone asked me this and my first thought was, 00:09:29.20\00:09:31.26 you know, I don't know. 00:09:31.26\00:09:32.96 And I began to think what was the first thing I ever wrote to 00:09:32.96\00:09:35.30 another human being. 00:09:35.30\00:09:37.43 And it just popped in my mind a memory like yesterday. 00:09:37.43\00:09:40.80 And it was this--as you guys know because you know me that I 00:09:40.80\00:09:44.93 grew up in a very, very abusive home. 00:09:44.93\00:09:46.73 I grew up just surrounded by anger and rage. 00:09:46.73\00:09:49.63 My mom was the--was just the punching bag for a step-father. 00:09:49.63\00:09:55.50 And he beat her up a lot. 00:09:55.50\00:09:56.86 Well the thing is, is that there were times when we would wake up 00:09:56.86\00:10:01.36 in the morning, as kids getting ready to go to school. 00:10:01.36\00:10:05.53 There were four of us and I'd go in the bathroom and he was 00:10:05.53\00:10:08.50 already gone for work. 00:10:08.50\00:10:10.10 And he had written on the mirror with her lipstick I love you. 00:10:10.10\00:10:16.26 And then he's gone. 00:10:16.26\00:10:18.13 Well he'd just beaten her up the night before. 00:10:18.13\00:10:20.60 And this is his way of, I don't know, making up or trying to 00:10:20.60\00:10:24.30 persuade here to stay or whatever. 00:10:24.30\00:10:25.73 Over and over again as a little boy I'd wake up knowing that she 00:10:25.73\00:10:28.46 had been beaten the night before. 00:10:28.46\00:10:32.06 Listening to her scream in the night. 00:10:32.06\00:10:33.80 Wake up as a little kid, go in the bathroom--I love you in 00:10:33.80\00:10:36.63 lipstick written across the mirror. 00:10:36.63\00:10:39.53 And when somebody asked me what's the first thing you ever 00:10:39.53\00:10:41.96 wrote to another human being? 00:10:41.96\00:10:43.30 Just in a flat--I didn't know the first few minutes--what did 00:10:43.30\00:10:46.60 I write, you know. 00:10:46.60\00:10:47.86 And then it just came to me--I remember the first thing I ever 00:10:47.86\00:10:51.26 wrote with my own hand as a little boy was one morning I 00:10:51.26\00:10:55.90 went in there and there the words were again. 00:10:55.90\00:10:57.93 I love you. 00:10:57.93\00:10:59.03 And here's the weird thing, I was just a little kid. 00:10:59.03\00:11:00.86 So I couldn't get any more elaborate than this. 00:11:00.86\00:11:02.33 But maybe, maybe it was elaborate. 00:11:02.33\00:11:03.96 I took her lipstick and I just scribbled it all out. 00:11:03.96\00:11:07.76 And then I wrote in my own hand with her lipstick under I love 00:11:07.76\00:11:12.30 you. 00:11:12.30\00:11:13.33 I mean it was the same words. 00:11:13.33\00:11:16.43 >>Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:11:16.43\00:11:17.50 >>It was the same words. 00:11:17.50\00:11:18.36 >>How old were you? 00:11:18.36\00:11:19.20 >>Like eight. 00:11:19.20\00:11:20.10 Different person. 00:11:20.10\00:11:21.00 Different context. 00:11:21.00\00:11:22.26 My meaning of the word love was definitely different than his. 00:11:22.26\00:11:26.13 You know, and I thought it was weird when they asked me that 00:11:26.13\00:11:28.96 question that I scribbled it out and just wrote the same thing 00:11:28.96\00:11:31.40 again. 00:11:31.40\00:11:32.53 You know, my mom went in there, I don't know what she was 00:11:32.53\00:11:33.86 thinking. 00:11:33.86\00:11:34.80 But I was basically saying no you don't. 00:11:34.80\00:11:36.30 But I do. 00:11:36.30\00:11:37.33 >>hmmm. 00:11:37.33\00:11:38.40 >>And. 00:11:38.40\00:11:39.03 >>Beautiful. 00:11:39.03\00:11:40.16 >>Yeah that I think what we're getting at here is God in 00:11:40.16\00:11:44.26 Genesis is creating a space and he's filling that space. 00:11:44.26\00:11:50.33 Our home was a space and it was filled with bad stuff. 00:11:50.33\00:11:53.23 God in Genesis was creating a space. 00:11:53.23\00:11:55.56 >>A social space. 00:11:55.56\00:11:56.96 >>A social space with good stuff. 00:11:56.96\00:11:58.70 And if you know you guys are familiar with that concept. 00:11:58.70\00:12:02.66 And I'd like to just flush that out of Genesis chapter one. 00:12:02.66\00:12:05.83 You've got a progression here in Genesis one of God doing 00:12:05.83\00:12:09.80 something. 00:12:09.80\00:12:11.13 Actually it's written in a poetic form. 00:12:11.13\00:12:12.93 In the poetic form of a chiastic structure. 00:12:12.93\00:12:15.36 Can be a v. 00:12:15.36\00:12:16.56 Can be an a. 00:12:16.56\00:12:18.23 Can be, it's just like a mountain basically. 00:12:18.23\00:12:20.80 You're climbing this side of the mountain. 00:12:20.80\00:12:23.20 You're climbing this side of the mountain. 00:12:23.20\00:12:24.73 You have a pentacle point. 00:12:24.73\00:12:25.93 And in Genesis one and two you have this basic progression 00:12:25.93\00:12:27.23 where God creates a space and fills a space with good things. 00:12:27.23\00:12:31.93 He creates a space. 00:12:31.93\00:12:33.33 He fills the space with good things. 00:12:33.33\00:12:34.86 And the way the poem goes is he--he creates on day one. 00:12:34.86\00:12:38.23 He just creates the sky, basically. 00:12:38.23\00:12:43.43 And creating the day and the night. 00:12:43.43\00:12:46.70 Then he fills is with the sun, moon and stars on day four. 00:12:46.70\00:12:49.73 Then. 00:12:49.73\00:12:51.66 >>So you're saying there's correspondence between day one 00:12:51.66\00:12:54.40 and day four? 00:12:54.40\00:12:55.76 >>And you'll see this well you do see this but here's the 00:12:55.76\00:12:59.40 thing. 00:12:59.40\00:13:00.63 Then he creates on day two the sea and the sky, right? 00:13:00.63\00:13:03.00 >>Mhm. 00:13:03.00\00:13:04.26 >>And then on day five he later on fills it with fish and birds. 00:13:04.26\00:13:08.36 >>He's a painter? 00:13:08.36\00:13:09.30 >>Yeah. 00:13:09.30\00:13:10.10 >>He's painting a picture. 00:13:10.10\00:13:11.36 >>And then he creates the land on day three. 00:13:11.36\00:13:13.70 And then he comes--he's come to the conclusion on day six he 00:13:13.70\00:13:17.20 fills the land with the animals and man. 00:13:17.20\00:13:20.23 And here's the cool thing. 00:13:20.23\00:13:22.00 He comes to the seventh day and he just creates a sacred space 00:13:22.00\00:13:24.86 of time and fills it with his fellowshipping presence. 00:13:24.86\00:13:28.90 And that's the Sabbath. 00:13:28.90\00:13:30.26 That's the seventh day which is the pinnacle of the creation. 00:13:30.26\00:13:34.26 So in other words, if you look at it this way, everything that 00:13:34.26\00:13:37.83 God's making and creating in the creation account is merging 00:13:37.83\00:13:42.00 toward one point. 00:13:42.00\00:13:44.13 And that point is fellowshp. 00:13:44.13\00:13:45.66 >>That's what I was just going to say. 00:13:45.66\00:13:47.70 It's a relationship not just with God Certainly with God 00:13:47.70\00:13:50.96 because he fills the Sabbath time with his own presence. 00:13:50.96\00:13:54.93 But it's also a time for Adam and Eve to bask in the rela--in 00:13:54.93\00:14:00.43 fact that would have been the first full day that Adam and Eve 00:14:00.43\00:14:02.43 would have experienced was the seventh day, Sabbath. 00:14:02.43\00:14:04.06 They're created on the sixth day. 00:14:04.06\00:14:05.56 And the first full day is the Sabbath, so as they're 00:14:05.56\00:14:08.70 learning--so who are you and what are--there's another one of 00:14:08.70\00:14:12.06 me. 00:14:12.06\00:14:13.30 Call it that Adam had named all--according to the story Adam 00:14:13.30\00:14:16.13 had named all of the other animals and at the end he's a 00:14:16.13\00:14:19.06 little dejected because he says there's--you know, I don't feel 00:14:19.06\00:14:22.93 quite the bonding with the hippopotamus or giraffe or 00:14:22.93\00:14:25.46 whatever. 00:14:25.46\00:14:26.43 [Laughter] 00:14:26.43\00:14:27.66 >>But then he goes into the deep sleep and God makes him. 00:14:27.66\00:14:30.10 >>The woman. 00:14:30.10\00:14:31.36 >>The woman and ah this is now bone of my bone and flesh of my 00:14:31.36\00:14:33.33 flesh so their first full day to explore that relationship right? 00:14:33.33\00:14:37.10 On every level physical, emotional, spiritual, just to 00:14:37.10\00:14:40.76 get to know one another. 00:14:40.76\00:14:42.90 That's the Sabbath. 00:14:42.90\00:14:44.06 >>Yeah that's--the Sabbath was hang out time with God. 00:14:44.06\00:14:46.90 >>Yeah and I really like that whole idea of the magnetism 00:14:46.90\00:14:49.83 verses the social--the love in Colossians chapter one verse 17 00:14:49.83\00:14:54.70 it's talking about this. 00:14:54.70\00:14:55.93 >>That's exactly the verse I was thinking about. 00:14:55.93\00:14:58.36 >>Really? 00:14:58.36\00:14:59.13 >>Yeah. 00:14:59.13\00:15:00.06 >>You were thinking Colossians 1:17? 00:15:00.06\00:15:00.93 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah I know the verse. 00:15:00.93\00:15:02.66 >>It talks about how we were held together by God. 00:15:02.66\00:15:06.06 And it says he is before all things that is creation. 00:15:06.06\00:15:10.66 He is before creation and in him all things hold together. 00:15:10.66\00:15:15.26 God is love. 00:15:15.26\00:15:17.26 >>God is love. 00:15:17.26\00:15:18.23 >>First John four verse eight. 00:15:18.23\00:15:19.66 So God says so in love all things hold together. 00:15:19.66\00:15:22.43 Love holds everything together. 00:15:22.43\00:15:23.93 It's not just this magnetism. 00:15:23.93\00:15:25.63 It's not just these. 00:15:25.63\00:15:26.90 >>Physical properties. 00:15:26.90\00:15:27.93 >>Yeah. 00:15:27.93\00:15:28.73 >>I know you're a King James guy. 00:15:28.73\00:15:30.00 I've always love the King James there yeah in him all things. 00:15:30.00\00:15:32.16 I love the King James too. 00:15:32.16\00:15:33.16 I love it. 00:15:33.16\00:15:34.43 In him all things consist. 00:15:34.43\00:15:36.56 That's such a great word. 00:15:36.56\00:15:38.20 It's from the word consistency. 00:15:38.20\00:15:40.76 It's a thing that binds it together. 00:15:40.76\00:15:43.03 >>Even the laws of nature there. 00:15:43.03\00:15:44.43 It's even beyond the spiritual realm. 00:15:44.43\00:15:46.03 Because when we speak of love and God is love normally we're 00:15:46.03\00:15:48.73 thinking in the spiritual realm. 00:15:48.73\00:15:50.00 But even in the material realm everything holds together in the 00:15:50.00\00:15:53.26 love of God. 00:15:53.26\00:15:55.30 >>It's all connected. 00:15:55.30\00:15:56.70 >>Nature holds together in the love of God. 00:15:56.70\00:15:58.33 >>Yeah I just noticed this on the table with the creation 00:15:58.33\00:16:01.50 poem. 00:16:01.50\00:16:02.50 But James was bringing out the point cohesion. 00:16:02.50\00:16:06.33 Everything's connected together but what's connecting these 00:16:06.33\00:16:09.43 rocks as David pointed out is magnetism. 00:16:09.43\00:16:11.73 But what's connecting God to people and Adam to Eve and Adam 00:16:11.73\00:16:17.86 and Eve to their children and Adam and Eve to stewarding the 00:16:17.86\00:16:22.40 earth. 00:16:22.40\00:16:23.50 That which is connecting everything together is love. 00:16:23.50\00:16:26.20 It's amazing. 00:16:26.20\00:16:27.73 >>Well that's what's connecting us together. 00:16:27.73\00:16:29.50 That's why we're here. 00:16:29.50\00:16:30.40 That's why we're sitting at this table. 00:16:30.40\00:16:31.76 That's why we're sitting at this table because all of us 00:16:31.76\00:16:35.13 connected to each other. 00:16:35.13\00:16:36.00 We're different, we're unique. 00:16:36.00\00:16:37.10 We have our, you know, differences, personalities. 00:16:37.10\00:16:40.63 But what holds us all together at this table is love. 00:16:40.63\00:16:43.26 Its lots of love. 00:16:43.26\00:16:44.16 >>That's true. 00:16:44.16\00:16:45.10 >>That's the mission that we're here for. 00:16:45.10\00:16:46.66 That's what we have sought. 00:16:46.66\00:16:48.56 >>And even just apart from the mission thing I can look at Ty 00:16:48.56\00:16:51.30 and James and Jeffrey and I can say in total transparency and 00:16:51.30\00:16:56.66 accuracy and authenticity that I love you guys. 00:16:56.66\00:16:58.90 You know this would be turned into a great big love fest. 00:16:58.90\00:17:01.70 [Laughter] 00:17:01.70\00:17:02.66 >>But seriously though. 00:17:02.66\00:17:03.83 >>I'd go one step further I like you. 00:17:03.83\00:17:06.20 Is that a step further or is that--it's an extension of love. 00:17:06.20\00:17:09.76 >>In my view it's not a step further but it is something 00:17:09.76\00:17:11.96 different. 00:17:11.96\00:17:12.83 >>God doesn't just love us. 00:17:12.83\00:17:14.70 He likes us. 00:17:14.70\00:17:16.86 >>We need, I think. 00:17:16.86\00:17:18.30 >>I think we need to unpack that difference. 00:17:18.30\00:17:20.60 >>I saw a show where it was a marriage--like a marriage 00:17:20.60\00:17:23.63 counseling show and the counselor has a couple in his 00:17:23.63\00:17:28.00 office and he asked the wife. 00:17:28.00\00:17:30.80 Do you love him? 00:17:30.80\00:17:32.70 And the guys sitting next to her and she goes, well of course I 00:17:32.70\00:17:35.33 love him. 00:17:35.33\00:17:36.10 And then he says do you like him? 00:17:36.10\00:17:38.10 And then she's like quiet [Laugher] 00:17:38.10\00:17:40.90 >>She's like, she's like I love him. 00:17:40.90\00:17:44.00 He's like no I get that do you like him? 00:17:44.00\00:17:46.36 >>We've been over that ground. 00:17:46.36\00:17:47.63 >>I really love him. 00:17:47.63\00:17:48.66 So it's just fascinating how. 00:17:48.66\00:17:50.40 >>Did she quote the bible verse love your enemies? 00:17:50.40\00:17:52.83 >>She didn't quote the bible verse but we love people. 00:17:52.83\00:17:56.00 And I mean we have to be honest I mean I have to be honest 00:17:56.00\00:17:59.23 there's people that I love. 00:17:59.23\00:18:00.70 But I can't tell you that I like them. 00:18:00.70\00:18:04.16 >>You struggle to like them. 00:18:04.16\00:18:05.56 >>I struggle to like them, difficult to like. 00:18:05.56\00:18:07.60 Maybe I'm difficult to like. 00:18:07.60\00:18:09.33 >>Let's unpack this more after the break. 00:18:09.33\00:18:11.53 But we're gonna share something right now that I think people 00:18:11.53\00:18:15.63 are going to -be really interested to know. 00:18:15.63\00:18:17.66 Here we are having this conversation around the table. 00:18:17.66\00:18:20.23 A lot of people wonder what is Light Bearers. 00:18:20.23\00:18:23.10 That's the ministry we're all associate with and work together 00:18:23.10\00:18:25.80 in this short mission spot it's going to tell people what Light 00:18:25.80\00:18:30.00 Bearers is or at least one aspect of what we do as a 00:18:30.00\00:18:33.53 ministry. 00:18:33.53\00:18:34.76 >>Light Bearers Ministry is primarily all about publishing 00:18:34.76\00:18:47.63 so let's just take a tour of our 15,000 square foot publishing 00:18:47.63\00:18:51.43 facility. 00:18:51.43\00:18:52.70 We're able to produce multiplied millions of publication in 32 00:18:52.70\00:18:56.90 different languages that go all over the world. 00:18:56.90\00:18:59.03 The great thing about this press is it is completely 00:18:59.03\00:19:04.53 computerized. 00:19:04.53\00:19:06.60 The press is able to print on both sides of the paper in one 00:19:06.60\00:19:09.36 pass through the press roll after roll after roll all day 00:19:09.36\00:19:11.16 long. 00:19:11.16\00:19:13.50 Once the material is printed, folded, boxed and palletized. 00:19:13.50\00:19:19.43 It goes into this large storage unit that's like a big drawer 00:19:19.43\00:19:22.80 system. 00:19:22.80\00:19:23.93 This is where it gets really exciting because once the 00:19:23.93\00:19:31.00 material is completely prepared we load this stuff into semi 00:19:31.00\00:19:35.50 loads that hold between 2 and 3 million publications and that 00:19:35.50\00:19:39.90 material goes out to Seattle where it's loaded onto a barge 00:19:39.90\00:19:43.76 and then taken somewhere in the world. 00:19:43.76\00:19:46.40 That stuff lands and these people are overwhelmed to have 00:19:46.40\00:19:57.36 reading material in their own mother tongue. 00:19:57.36\00:20:00.56 That's when people's hearts really begin to get touched as 00:20:00.56\00:20:04.90 they encounter the gospel of Christ and God's incredible for 00:20:04.90\00:20:08.20 them. 00:20:08.20\00:20:09.66 Many of them for the first time in their lives. 00:20:09.66\00:20:12.80 Paper is powerful. 00:20:12.80\00:20:14.00 Paper is something that we see utilized in a way that goes 00:20:14.00\00:20:16.93 beyond anything that is in the world today. 00:20:16.93\00:20:19.46 It has a power that no other medium in the world has because 00:20:19.46\00:20:23.06 it has an ongoing life. 00:20:23.06\00:20:25.60 One person in the home reads that literature and then they 00:20:25.60\00:20:30.23 can give it to someone else. 00:20:30.23\00:20:31.80 And they can read it and share it. 00:20:31.80\00:20:33.40 Then they can give it to somebody else. 00:20:33.40\00:20:36.73 >>And next time you got two people instead of one. 00:20:36.73\00:20:38.50 >>It's actually passed on even from one family member to 00:20:38.50\00:20:41.16 another to read. 00:20:41.16\00:20:42.36 >>And next time you got three instead of two. 00:20:42.36\00:20:45.76 >>Unlike radio television that comes and then is gone. 00:20:45.76\00:20:48.63 That track is a permanent possession of that individual. 00:20:48.63\00:20:51.20 And so you see one piece of literature a nickel or less 00:20:51.20\00:20:55.13 going into these individuals and being used over and over again. 00:20:55.13\00:20:58.36 Reaching one heart after another after another. 00:20:58.36\00:21:00.70 >>To partner with Light Bearers in this place. 00:21:32.50\00:21:33.76 In fact a lot of people don't realize this but we're sitting 00:21:33.76\00:21:35.60 in, is this a secret? 00:21:35.60\00:21:37.86 We're sitting in the publishing house right now. 00:21:37.86\00:21:39.66 >>With the lights off. 00:21:39.66\00:21:41.40 >>Yeah with the lights off. 00:21:41.40\00:21:43.40 We're basically in our publishing house with the lights 00:21:43.40\00:21:45.26 off and--but it's incredible literally millions upon millions 00:21:45.26\00:21:48.20 publications. 00:21:48.20\00:21:49.60 >>Praise God. 00:21:49.60\00:21:50.86 >>Going out to all the world, multiple languages nations all 00:21:50.86\00:21:54.23 over the world. 00:21:54.23\00:21:55.40 It's just a very powerful ministry. 00:21:55.40\00:21:56.66 So. 00:21:56.66\00:21:57.46 >>Amen. 00:21:57.46\00:21:58.43 >>Preaching the good news in written form. 00:21:58.43\00:21:59.66 >>So far we've been leading this discussion and we've gone 00:21:59.66\00:22:04.26 through creation. 00:22:04.26\00:22:05.96 We've gone through God's expressive activity in Genesis 00:22:05.96\00:22:08.73 one and to lead up and all of that. 00:22:08.73\00:22:11.70 And all of these points lead to the question what was God's 00:22:11.70\00:22:15.13 original purpose? 00:22:15.13\00:22:17.06 What's the point? 00:22:17.06\00:22:18.56 Why do we exist instead of not exist? 00:22:18.56\00:22:21.90 Isn't that the philosophical question? 00:22:21.90\00:22:23.50 >>I like that. 00:22:23.50\00:22:24.63 >>Why's there something rather than nothing? 00:22:24.63\00:22:26.06 >>I like that formulation why do we exist? 00:22:26.06\00:22:28.60 >>Yeah why do we exist? 00:22:28.60\00:22:29.86 There's a text, there's a text in Isaiah that we can look at as 00:22:29.86\00:22:33.10 a sort of brief summary. 00:22:33.10\00:22:37.33 >>Like a summary. 00:22:37.33\00:22:38.20 >>Summary, definition. 00:22:38.20\00:22:38.93 It's a summary definition. 00:22:38.93\00:22:40.20 It's in Isaiah chapter 43 and there's some pretty grandiose 00:22:40.20\00:22:42.73 themes here. 00:22:42.73\00:22:44.10 I'm looking at Isaiah 43 verse 7 and this is I guess a dictionary 00:22:44.10\00:22:50.20 definition purpose for human existence. 00:22:50.20\00:22:54.40 And it says in verse 7 everyone who is called by my name, this 00:22:54.40\00:22:58.56 is God speaking whom I have created for my glory. 00:22:58.56\00:23:03.53 I have formed him. 00:23:03.53\00:23:05.56 Yes I have made him. 00:23:05.56\00:23:06.86 There's this idea that we, the human race have been created for 00:23:06.86\00:23:12.06 the glory of God. 00:23:12.06\00:23:13.30 And that connects to something in the mosaic literature in 00:23:13.30\00:23:17.23 Exodus where Moses is up on the mountain. 00:23:17.23\00:23:19.83 And he's in communion with God. 00:23:19.83\00:23:23.06 And God is manifesting himself to Moses and Moses poses a 00:23:23.06\00:23:28.63 question. 00:23:28.63\00:23:31.10 I'm going to read that very quickly I think this will launch 00:23:31.10\00:23:32.53 us into. 00:23:32.53\00:23:33.86 >>On top of Mount Sinai. 00:23:33.86\00:23:35.40 >>By the way Jeffery while you're going there 00:23:35.40\00:23:36.86 >>Yep 00:23:36.86\00:23:38.13 >> To Exodus you know I think a lot of people--I've heard people 00:23:38.13\00:23:40.26 just really trip over this. 00:23:40.26\00:23:42.83 What do you mean we were created for God's glory? 00:23:42.83\00:23:45.43 To some people's ears that God's and ego maniac. 00:23:45.43\00:23:48.66 In other words, I created you. 00:23:48.66\00:23:50.90 >>It's all about him. 00:23:50.90\00:23:52.10 >>To glorify me. 00:23:52.10\00:23:53.53 That God's an egocentric kind of being and that, you know, 00:23:53.53\00:23:55.13 basically hey you exist to stand, you know, in perfect line 00:23:55.13\00:24:00.50 saying praise God, praise God, praise God. 00:24:00.50\00:24:03.06 In some kind of--people have a strange view of what it means 00:24:03.06\00:24:06.23 when the bible says for my glory. 00:24:06.23\00:24:09.36 Have you heard that idea? 00:24:09.36\00:24:11.06 >>Absolutely it sounds like God is a self-centered being that 00:24:11.06\00:24:15.00 wants. 00:24:15.00\00:24:16.30 It's all about me, me, me but I think that this whole sort of 00:24:16.30\00:24:18.86 answer that question. 00:24:18.86\00:24:20.26 >>Where are you at? 00:24:20.26\00:24:21.43 >>I'm in Exodus 33 and I'm holding onto Isaiah; we were 00:24:21.43\00:24:25.06 created for God's glory and Moses poses a question to God in 00:24:25.06\00:24:28.73 verse 18. 00:24:28.73\00:24:29.90 Exodus 33 and he says to God please show me your glory. 00:24:29.90\00:24:34.96 >>That's a quintessential question right there. 00:24:34.96\00:24:38.33 >>Show me your glory and the response is, is dramatic. 00:24:38.33\00:24:42.06 The way God shows Moses his glory is essentially a 00:24:42.06\00:24:46.96 description of his character and so in verse 19 God says I will 00:24:46.96\00:24:52.60 make all my goodness pass before you. 00:24:52.60\00:24:55.26 I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. 00:24:55.26\00:24:57.66 I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious. 00:24:57.66\00:25:00.63 I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 00:25:00.63\00:25:04.10 Then he jumped down to verse 34 and it actually happens. 00:25:04.10\00:25:08.13 In verse 5 the Lord descends in the clouds and stood with him 00:25:08.13\00:25:13.06 there and proclaimed the name of the Lord. 00:25:13.06\00:25:16.30 And the Lord passed before him, verse 6, and proclaimed the 00:25:16.30\00:25:20.00 Lord, the Lord God merciful, gracious, longsuffering, 00:25:20.00\00:25:24.00 abounding in goodness and truth. 00:25:24.00\00:25:27.03 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and 00:25:27.03\00:25:30.43 transgression and sin. 00:25:30.43\00:25:31.80 And by no means clearing the guilty. 00:25:31.80\00:25:34.26 Visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and 00:25:34.26\00:25:37.50 the children's children to the third and fourth generation. 00:25:37.50\00:25:40.13 >>That's heavy stuff. 00:25:40.13\00:25:41.90 >>So the reply is profound. 00:25:41.90\00:25:43.30 The glory of God. 00:25:43.30\00:25:44.56 The way God demonstrates that is simply a description of who he 00:25:44.56\00:25:49.26 is. 00:25:49.26\00:25:50.40 So is that a window to answer the question why were we 00:25:50.40\00:25:52.90 created? 00:25:52.90\00:25:55.23 And what does it mean that we were created for God's glory? 00:25:55.23\00:25:56.90 >>When you were speaking there I was listening the whole time and 00:25:56.90\00:26:01.20 I love. 00:26:01.20\00:26:02.46 I think you've gone to exactly the right places Isaiah 43 and 00:26:02.46\00:26:05.53 then Exodus or is that. 00:26:05.53\00:26:10.26 >>Exodus. 00:26:10.26\00:26:11.06 >>Isaiah 43 and Exodus 33 and 34. 00:26:11.06\00:26:12.30 I love the opening question and answer to the Westminster 00:26:12.30\00:26:15.96 Catechism right? 00:26:15.96\00:26:17.70 The Westminster Catechism in historical Christian documents 00:26:17.70\00:26:20.60 says. 00:26:20.60\00:26:21.73 It opens with this line what is the chief end of man? 00:26:21.73\00:26:25.00 What's man's purpose? 00:26:25.00\00:26:26.36 The answer is this to know God and to enjoy him forever. 00:26:26.36\00:26:30.70 That's it the purpose for which we were created. 00:26:30.70\00:26:36.46 That's the idea of glory. 00:26:36.46\00:26:37.73 That's how I understand whom I created for my glory, to know 00:26:37.73\00:26:40.43 me, to enjoy me, to love me, to be loved by me, to be enjoyed by 00:26:40.43\00:26:43.86 me, relationship. 00:26:43.86\00:26:46.03 >>Egocentric. 00:26:46.03\00:26:48.66 >>Hardly egocentric. 00:26:48.66\00:26:49.63 >>He's other centered. 00:26:49.63\00:26:51.53 >>That's the whole point. 00:26:51.53\00:26:52.83 The whole point we've already been discussing up to this point 00:26:52.83\00:26:55.83 is God is love. 00:26:55.83\00:26:56.53 He is not a rigid singularity. 00:26:56.53\00:26:57.90 He is in himself a family, community in a relationship. 00:26:57.90\00:26:59.50 And so here when he says who are you, Moses on top of the 00:26:59.50\00:27:03.56 mountain. 00:27:03.56\00:27:04.60 Who are you? 00:27:04.60\00:27:05.40 Who am I talking to? 00:27:05.40\00:27:06.66 Because he's veiled behind the cloud, behind the smoke, behind 00:27:06.66\00:27:08.83 the lightening, the thunder and all of the power that was 00:27:08.83\00:27:12.10 manifested there on top of Sinai. 00:27:12.10\00:27:13.56 Who are you? 00:27:13.56\00:27:15.10 He says well this is who I am. 00:27:15.10\00:27:16.80 I'm 00:27:16.80\00:27:17.66 >>I'm good. 00:27:17.66\00:27:18.33 >>I'm good. 00:27:18.33\00:27:19.13 I'm this. 00:27:19.13\00:27:20.23 I'm this. 00:27:20.23\00:27:21.73 Now that does introduce something there. 00:27:21.73\00:27:23.86 Because you get down and it sounds really nice and really 00:27:23.86\00:27:26.00 good, just and forgiving, loving and then you get down to that 00:27:26.00\00:27:28.46 part about visiting the iniquity of the chil--ok now here's. 00:27:28.46\00:27:30.60 >>By no means clearing the guilty. 00:27:30.60\00:27:31.76 >>No means clearing the guilty. 00:27:31.76\00:27:33.03 Now here's something I think we have to come to grips with and 00:27:33.03\00:27:36.16 it's a big part of the question that you're asking. 00:27:36.16\00:27:38.46 Why do we exist? 00:27:38.46\00:27:39.80 And that is that we should not say God is love which we've said 00:27:39.80\00:27:45.66 over and over again. 00:27:45.66\00:27:46.96 And we're going to keep saying because that's the great truth 00:27:46.96\00:27:48.93 of who God is. 00:27:48.93\00:27:49.70 God is love. 00:27:49.70\00:27:50.63 Oh yeah, yeah, yeah but he's also just. 00:27:50.63\00:27:51.73 God is love but he's also. 00:27:51.73\00:27:57.60 >>It's a false dicotamy. 00:27:57.60\00:27:59.56 >>It's a--ex--ok--unpack that because I think that has to be. 00:27:59.56\00:28:01.86 >>The way I look at it. 00:28:01.86\00:28:03.20 I don't know if again, these Ipads are just so, so handy but 00:28:03.20\00:28:06.80 the way I've been looking at it is basic illustration. 00:28:06.80\00:28:11.33 See it, can you see these guys? 00:28:11.33\00:28:13.56 >>Got it. 00:28:13.56\00:28:14.50 >>Ok, so, wait a minute. 00:28:14.50\00:28:17.36 We got a circle here. 00:28:17.36\00:28:18.76 That circle is love. 00:28:18.76\00:28:20.36 The question is if this represents the totality of God's 00:28:20.36\00:28:25.70 character. 00:28:25.70\00:28:26.56 Alright. 00:28:26.56\00:28:27.46 >>And his nature. 00:28:27.46\00:28:28.60 >>And his nature. 00:28:28.60\00:28:29.86 The totality could we say that everything else that is true of 00:28:29.86\00:28:33.73 God--we'll start with basic division. 00:28:33.73\00:28:36.60 We'll have mercy and justice. 00:28:36.60\00:28:39.30 So the false dichotomy, you asked me to unpack that--to say 00:28:39.30\00:28:43.26 God is love. 00:28:43.26\00:28:44.26 Oh yeah God is love but God is also just. 00:28:44.26\00:28:45.93 Let me just ask this. 00:28:45.93\00:28:47.96 Isn't justice a manifestation of love? 00:28:47.96\00:28:51.90 >>Mhm of course it is. 00:28:51.90\00:28:53.66 >>Isn't there are circumstances we've all been in where the 00:28:53.66\00:28:56.36 loving thing to do is the just thing. 00:28:56.36\00:28:59.83 You apply justice in order to implement love. 00:28:59.83\00:29:04.16 >>Isn't parenting the perfect parallel? 00:29:04.16\00:29:06.23 >>Yeah, parenting is the perfect parallel. 00:29:06.23\00:29:08.26 But then you could add everything here. 00:29:08.26\00:29:10.50 You know segment out you could say, you know, patience over 00:29:10.50\00:29:12.93 here and what did it say? 00:29:12.93\00:29:15.26 Goodness. 00:29:15.26\00:29:16.30 >>Longsuffering. 00:29:16.30\00:29:17.50 >>Longsuffering, kindness, whatever. 00:29:17.50\00:29:18.90 You just put all those traits in the circle. 00:29:18.90\00:29:21.60 God is love. 00:29:21.60\00:29:23.40 Because God is love he's also holy and just. 00:29:23.40\00:29:27.40 >>That's the thing. 00:29:27.40\00:29:28.43 >>everything. 00:29:28.43\00:29:29.50 >>What you just said right there is the clarity. 00:29:29.50\00:29:31.03 Because he is love he is also holy, just, patient, 00:29:31.03\00:29:33.10 longsuffering, etc. That's the point. 00:29:33.10\00:29:35.00 >>So, so I think now this sort of ties in to my view so I took 00:29:35.00\00:29:39.63 the conversation slightly over there. 00:29:39.63\00:29:41.53 I want to bring it back to what Jeffrey was saying why we exist. 00:29:41.53\00:29:43.46 If God isn't like this then we might exist for a number of 00:29:43.46\00:29:47.63 reasons. 00:29:47.63\00:29:48.90 In other words if God just made us to be his minions to be his 00:29:48.90\00:29:50.46 puppets to be controlled by. 00:29:50.46\00:29:51.90 Which is kind of your question, you know that does make some 00:29:51.90\00:29:54.53 people nervous; whom I have created for my glory. 00:29:54.53\00:29:56.50 But if God is like that--if God is a relational, good, loving, 00:29:56.50\00:30:01.93 amazing, communal God then the reason for which we are created 00:30:01.93\00:30:05.00 is exactly what the catechism says there to know God and to 00:30:05.00\00:30:08.03 enjoy him forever. 00:30:08.03\00:30:10.60 >>Wow. 00:30:10.60\00:30:11.96 >>To be in a relationship with him. 00:30:11.96\00:30:13.70 To bask in his presence. 00:30:13.70\00:30:15.50 To--language is failing me. 00:30:15.50\00:30:18.56 >>If we're created for God's glory, Jeffrey and to enjoy God 00:30:18.56\00:30:25.66 forever. 00:30:25.66\00:30:26.56 These things go together. 00:30:26.56\00:30:27.56 God isn't interested. 00:30:27.56\00:30:29.80 He's not creating beings to serve him. 00:30:29.80\00:30:33.43 He's creating beings. 00:30:33.43\00:30:35.16 >>To serve. 00:30:35.16\00:30:36.93 >>To serve them. 00:30:36.93\00:30:38.33 >>That's right. 00:30:38.33\00:30:40.36 >>And then to have reciprocation that occurs. 00:30:40.36\00:30:42.63 He's the initiator of the relationship and he's calling 00:30:42.63\00:30:46.06 the best out of us toward him and toward one another. 00:30:46.06\00:30:50.23 So to say that we're created for God's glory isn't an ego 00:30:50.23\00:30:53.73 statement from God's standpoint. 00:30:53.73\00:30:57.13 It's, listen, I'm God. 00:30:57.13\00:30:59.73 I made you in my image. 00:30:59.73\00:31:00.93 I want you to experience life and reality the way I do. 00:31:00.93\00:31:02.70 And I experience it love, in goodness. 00:31:02.70\00:31:06.26 I enjoy my relationship within the Godhead, Father, Son and 00:31:06.26\00:31:11.56 Holy Spirit are enjoying one another as we pointed out the 00:31:11.56\00:31:15.23 word delight is used in scripture. 00:31:15.23\00:31:17.16 Regarding the relationship between Father, Son and Holy 00:31:17.16\00:31:20.76 Spirit. 00:31:20.76\00:31:21.73 They delight in one another's companionship. 00:31:21.73\00:31:22.96 Well God created us for his glory it means God created us to 00:31:22.96\00:31:27.56 basically enjoy relationships with him and with one another. 00:31:27.56\00:31:31.50 >>I've just got to jump in there quickly. 00:31:31.50\00:31:33.26 Just two days ago I was in the Seattle airport and you've seen 00:31:33.26\00:31:36.06 these shirts that people wear, life is good. 00:31:36.06\00:31:38.33 You know the shirts and the hats and the little smiley face 00:31:38.33\00:31:41.53 people. 00:31:41.53\00:31:42.76 I think it's a Seattle based company because they had a big 00:31:42.76\00:31:44.26 life is good store there in the SeTack airport. 00:31:44.26\00:31:47.76 And it dawned on me just as I was looking at all these 00:31:47.76\00:31:50.80 t-shirts and bags and socks and all of this life is good 00:31:50.80\00:31:53.66 paraphernalia. 00:31:53.66\00:31:54.76 The reason that life is good is that God is good. 00:31:54.76\00:31:57.60 He made life like this. 00:31:57.60\00:32:01.16 He made relationships. 00:32:01.16\00:32:02.26 He made puppies. 00:32:02.26\00:32:03.13 He made sunsets. 00:32:03.13\00:32:04.10 He made zoos. 00:32:04.10\00:32:05.00 He made birds. 00:32:05.00\00:32:05.66 He made surfing. 00:32:05.66\00:32:06.40 >>He made animals we made zoos. 00:32:06.40\00:32:07.43 >>Thank you. 00:32:07.43\00:32:08.93 [Laughter] 00:32:08.93\00:32:10.06 >>He made zoology. 00:32:10.06\00:32:13.63 There you go. 00:32:13.63\00:32:14.63 He made zoology. 00:32:14.63\00:32:15.90 Now I also have to pick up on that point that you just said 00:32:15.90\00:32:17.50 that's so awesome. 00:32:17.50\00:32:18.76 He says you said that God did not make mankind primarily to 00:32:18.76\00:32:22.23 serve him but to serve them. 00:32:22.23\00:32:24.20 And that's exactly what Jesus said in Matthew chapter 20 verse 00:32:24.20\00:32:28.93 28 he said the Son of man who is God on earth. 00:32:28.93\00:32:31.46 If you've seen me you've seen the Father. 00:32:31.46\00:32:33.10 The Son of man didn't come to be served but to serve. 00:32:33.10\00:32:36.83 And to give his life as a ransom for mankind. 00:32:36.83\00:32:40.86 >>I've got a verse for you guys on this straight up. 00:32:40.86\00:32:42.83 Jesus said, if I can find it in Luke. 00:32:42.83\00:32:44.90 Jesus said that one of the things that's going to happen. 00:32:44.90\00:32:48.50 We get into the kingdom and Jesus says oh here it is. 00:32:48.50\00:32:55.30 It's in chapter 12 verse 37 blessed are those servants whom 00:32:55.30\00:32:58.83 the master when he comes will find watching. 00:32:58.83\00:33:02.06 Assuredly I say to you that he, this is the master. 00:33:02.06\00:33:05.36 This is God Almighty. 00:33:05.36\00:33:06.40 This is the creator of the universe. 00:33:06.40\00:33:07.53 He, God, will gird himself, which is amazing. 00:33:07.53\00:33:13.06 He will gird himself and have them sit down to eat and will 00:33:13.06\00:33:19.10 come and serve them. 00:33:19.10\00:33:20.46 >>That's the picture. 00:33:20.46\00:33:22.93 >>So we get into the eternal kingdom, sin and suffering is no 00:33:22.93\00:33:25.90 more. 00:33:25.90\00:33:27.16 We're on the other side of this war between good and evil and we 00:33:27.16\00:33:29.93 enter God's presence and he says I've got a table prepared for 00:33:29.93\00:33:33.06 you. 00:33:33.06\00:33:33.96 Sit down, sit down, you guys sit down. 00:33:33.96\00:33:35.06 We sit down. 00:33:35.06\00:33:36.13 God puts on the apron and starts serving the meal. 00:33:36.13\00:33:39.36 >>Hmmm. 00:33:39.36\00:33:41.46 >>That's biblical. 00:33:41.46\00:33:42.46 >>Hallelujah. 00:33:42.46\00:33:43.73 >>That's what Jesus says. 00:33:43.73\00:33:44.73 >>And it's not only what Jesus says. 00:33:44.73\00:33:45.96 It's what he did in John 13. 00:33:45.96\00:33:46.83 >>Yes. 00:33:46.83\00:33:47.96 >>When the disciples sat down and he says if I then you 00:33:47.96\00:33:49.13 Lord--when He washed the disciples feet. 00:33:49.13\00:33:51.03 If I your Lord and Master have washed your feet. 00:33:51.03\00:33:53.03 You want to want. 00:33:53.03\00:33:54.53 God the picture that we're painting here. 00:33:54.53\00:33:57.63 Not that we're painting. 00:33:57.63\00:33:58.60 >>That's astounding. 00:33:58.60\00:33:59.90 >>The scripture that paints of God is a picture that causes us 00:33:59.90\00:34:01.93 to fall in love with him. 00:34:01.93\00:34:04.70 >>You know. 00:34:04.70\00:34:05.46 >>In fact. 00:34:05.46\00:34:06.13 >>Go ahead. 00:34:06.13\00:34:07.40 >>In fact Isaiah 43 that's where we started Isaiah 43 verse 7. 00:34:07.40\00:34:09.10 Well the context of Isaiah 43 is really interesting when you read 00:34:09.10\00:34:13.33 it in context. 00:34:13.33\00:34:14.60 It's talking about how God is going to call all the nations of 00:34:14.60\00:34:16.03 earth together. 00:34:16.03\00:34:18.26 All these nations that live and thrive and exist on this 00:34:18.26\00:34:22.03 self-glorification. 00:34:22.03\00:34:23.73 This principle of self-glory. 00:34:23.73\00:34:25.13 He's going to call them all together. 00:34:25.13\00:34:26.60 And you are going to be my witnesses. 00:34:26.60\00:34:29.10 And you are going to testify of how I am, of what I'm like. 00:34:29.10\00:34:32.80 >>Whoa. 00:34:32.80\00:34:34.03 >>Of what I really--what it really is like to give glory to 00:34:34.03\00:34:36.23 me or to be like me. 00:34:36.23\00:34:37.10 To be selfless, to be other centered. 00:34:37.10\00:34:39.30 So when we bring all these nations together from Babylon 00:34:39.30\00:34:42.40 and Egypt and Ethiopia etc. And then you're going to be my 00:34:42.40\00:34:45.16 witnesses. 00:34:45.16\00:34:46.40 You're gonna testify to my glory and what I'm really like in 00:34:46.40\00:34:48.10 contrast with that. 00:34:48.10\00:34:49.06 >>That's beautiful. 00:34:49.06\00:34:50.20 And you know I've been thinking that we're in Isaiah. 00:34:50.20\00:34:53.00 We're in Matthew. 00:34:53.00\00:34:54.26 We're in the New Testament but you don't even have to look so 00:34:54.26\00:34:56.30 far to arrive at the conclusion that we've been created to love 00:34:56.30\00:35:00.10 God. 00:35:00.10\00:35:01.63 To know God and to enjoy Him. 00:35:01.63\00:35:02.86 We we're talking about that chiastic structure of Genesis 1. 00:35:02.86\00:35:07.03 Forms sort of like a triangle. 00:35:07.03\00:35:08.53 And at the top of the triangle is the Sabbath, the seventh day. 00:35:08.53\00:35:12.46 And that there's no creative activity on the seventh day. 00:35:12.46\00:35:15.00 It's an empty canvass and God fills it as you said with 00:35:15.00\00:35:18.56 his--with his presence, right? 00:35:18.56\00:35:20.70 And so at the very beginning, the first full day that the 00:35:20.70\00:35:24.26 human race experiences is a day of rest in simple fellowship 00:35:24.26\00:35:34.53 with the creator. 00:35:34.53\00:35:35.80 And so this is really powerful because the very first full day 00:35:35.80\00:35:38.50 of Adam and Eve. 00:35:38.50\00:35:41.03 They're introduced to fellowship with God. 00:35:41.03\00:35:44.00 But even more than that God is introducing himself to a new 00:35:44.00\00:35:48.46 experience. 00:35:48.46\00:35:50.40 Because this is a new race that did not previously exist. 00:35:50.40\00:35:54.13 And it's a new experience for God himself to be able to 00:35:54.13\00:35:58.93 fellowship and to have a relationship with this brand new 00:35:58.93\00:36:02.10 race of created beings. 00:36:02.10\00:36:03.90 So I think that's another window. 00:36:03.90\00:36:05.06 We were created because God wanted us to exist. 00:36:05.06\00:36:12.56 Because God wanted. 00:36:12.56\00:36:13.90 >>That's the most basic level. 00:36:13.90\00:36:16.86 That's true. 00:36:16.86\00:36:19.03 >>God wanted us to be the object of his enjoyment. 00:36:19.03\00:36:21.83 >>And want is a higher compliment than need. 00:36:21.83\00:36:24.30 >>Totally. 00:36:24.30\00:36:25.56 >>Yeah, you could say that some people have said, you know, God 00:36:25.56\00:36:27.56 needed human beings to exist. 00:36:27.56\00:36:28.76 Well Father, Son and Holy Spirit that's a perfect cohesive 00:36:28.76\00:36:31.80 relationship right there. 00:36:31.80\00:36:33.90 God transcends everything. 00:36:33.90\00:36:35.43 I don't think it's totally accurate. 00:36:35.43\00:36:37.10 I mean this is philosophical to say God needed us. 00:36:37.10\00:36:40.00 But to say he wanted us. 00:36:40.00\00:36:42.26 >>You know. 00:36:42.26\00:36:43.30 >>It's amazing. 00:36:43.30\00:36:44.46 >>My wife always says, I'm sure you're wife says this. 00:36:44.46\00:36:46.43 Do you love me baby? 00:36:46.43\00:36:47.40 Do you love me? 00:36:47.40\00:36:48.10 She asks me that every day. 00:36:48.10\00:36:49.36 And I'm thinking I told you I loved you when we got married. 00:36:49.36\00:36:52.70 >>You said you were the romantic type. 00:36:52.70\00:36:56.30 >> [Everyone talking at once] 00:36:56.30\00:36:57.56 >>I'm getting there. 00:36:57.56\00:36:58.56 I'm getting there. 00:36:58.56\00:36:59.43 This is a set up you gotta just learn. 00:36:59.43\00:37:00.76 Take notes here. 00:37:00.76\00:37:01.66 This is a set up. 00:37:01.66\00:37:03.50 >>let me get some paper and pen. 00:37:03.50\00:37:04.80 >>I say baby. 00:37:04.80\00:37:05.90 >>Pen is poised. 00:37:05.90\00:37:07.40 >>You know why I love you. 00:37:07.40\00:37:08.70 She's like I don't understand why you wouldn't. 00:37:08.70\00:37:10.46 I say just because I do. 00:37:10.46\00:37:12.73 Just because I like you. 00:37:12.73\00:37:13.93 I don't have to have this long list of characteristics. 00:37:13.93\00:37:16.40 You're a great cook. 00:37:16.40\00:37:17.80 You know how to clean the house. 00:37:17.80\00:37:18.93 Blah, blah those are all characteristics. 00:37:18.93\00:37:21.10 But I would even venture to say it's a greater form of flattery 00:37:21.10\00:37:25.10 to say. 00:37:25.10\00:37:26.13 >>Just like you as a person. 00:37:26.13\00:37:29.00 >>I just get a kick out of you. 00:37:29.00\00:37:29.93 Like I just. 00:37:29.93\00:37:31.20 I enjoy you. 00:37:31.20\00:37:32.10 >>Yeah, your company, your friendship. 00:37:32.10\00:37:33.20 >>And I love that because God loves us. 00:37:33.20\00:37:34.86 We get--He gets a kick out of us. 00:37:34.86\00:37:40.26 I think that's a beautiful concept. 00:37:40.26\00:37:41.46 >>It's absolutely beautiful. 00:37:41.46\00:37:42.93 But you are touching on something that we actually ended 00:37:42.93\00:37:45.66 out last session on. 00:37:45.66\00:37:46.93 That we sort of went like that and we have to come back to this 00:37:46.93\00:37:49.60 idea that God loves us. 00:37:49.60\00:37:50.93 Because you just said love, love, love and then you started 00:37:50.93\00:37:53.30 using the word like inside of it. 00:37:53.30\00:37:55.06 We have to have that conversation at some point 00:37:55.06\00:37:57.56 because the fact that God loves us tells us a lot about God. 00:37:57.56\00:38:00.66 Tells us that God is good. 00:38:00.66\00:38:02.06 God is amazing. 00:38:02.06\00:38:03.43 God is unconditional and gracious. 00:38:03.43\00:38:05.50 But if God likes us that says something about Jeffrey. 00:38:05.50\00:38:08.53 That says something about James because you're different than 00:38:08.53\00:38:10.63 James. 00:38:10.63\00:38:11.56 James is different from Ty. 00:38:11.56\00:38:13.00 So that's--to me that's a question we have to engage with. 00:38:13.00\00:38:15.36 A lot of people can say yeah, yeah, yeah I get that God loves 00:38:15.36\00:38:18.36 me. 00:38:18.36\00:38:20.56 But I look in the mirror I don't even like myself. 00:38:20.56\00:38:24.00 How could God like me. 00:38:24.00\00:38:26.06 >>Yeah, yeah it's playing in the uniqueness of each individual. 00:38:26.06\00:38:29.06 You know we have some more time to flush these things out. 00:38:29.06\00:38:31.36 I don't know where you want to go from here but this love like 00:38:31.36\00:38:34.53 idea. 00:38:34.53\00:38:36.10 I think that it's incredible to explore that. 00:38:36.10\00:38:38.83 I'm wondering if there's anything direct in the bible 00:38:38.83\00:38:41.20 that we could think about that specifically indicates that God 00:38:41.20\00:38:47.83 likes us as individuals? 00:38:47.83\00:38:51.80 We've gotta take a break. 00:38:51.80\00:38:53.66 But we'll come back and then we'll just start flushing out 00:38:53.66\00:38:56.13 this like love idea. 00:38:56.13\00:38:58.73 I think we've all experienced it on the human level. 00:38:58.73\00:39:01.96 But can we honestly say God likes us? 00:39:01.96\00:39:04.60 And are there any times that God doesn't like us? 00:39:04.60\00:39:07.13 Are there things that we do--is there a sharp segregation 00:39:07.13\00:39:10.26 between God likes me but not what I do? 00:39:10.26\00:39:14.16 I don't know what you think about that--that distinction. 00:39:14.16\00:39:16.96 We'll just explore that when we come back after the break. 00:39:16.96\00:39:19.73 >>The Light Bearers story is a short award winning video that 00:39:19.73\00:39:29.76 >>The Light Bearers story is a verses that I think will unpack 00:40:20.63\00:40:30.23 or begin to unpack this whole idea of love and light. 00:40:30.23\00:40:33.50 First one is in First Corinthians chapter 13 and the 00:40:33.50\00:40:37.13 second one is in Matthew 22 verse 39. 00:40:37.13\00:40:40.60 Just looking at these two verses you get a picture of God's 00:40:40.60\00:40:43.96 character and the way he relates to us. 00:40:43.96\00:40:45.90 And then you get a picture of us and the way we relate to one 00:40:45.90\00:40:49.43 another. 00:40:49.43\00:40:51.36 >>Okay. 00:40:51.36\00:40:54.16 >>The first verse is First Corinthians 13:7 it's describing 00:40:54.16\00:40:55.36 love. 00:40:55.36\00:40:56.33 God is love. 00:40:56.33\00:40:57.00 >>Mhm. 00:40:57.00\00:40:58.26 >>And it says that love bears all things, believes all things, 00:40:58.26\00:40:59.20 hopes all things and endures all things. 00:40:59.20\00:41:01.80 >>Mhm. 00:41:01.80\00:41:03.03 >>Now the whole idea here is that love transcends even our 00:41:03.03\00:41:06.20 likes. 00:41:06.20\00:41:07.46 In other words, there are a lot of things about myself that I 00:41:07.46\00:41:09.20 don't like. 00:41:09.20\00:41:11.23 Jesus says in Matthew chapter 22 verse 39 you shall love your 00:41:11.23\00:41:14.56 neighbor as yourself. 00:41:14.56\00:41:16.66 Well in order to love somebody else as myself. 00:41:16.66\00:41:19.46 I have to have some love for myself. 00:41:19.46\00:41:20.86 The love that I have for myself in First Corinthians is the love 00:41:20.86\00:41:23.90 that hopes all things and believes all things. 00:41:23.90\00:41:26.33 Even though I might not like all things. 00:41:26.33\00:41:28.86 >>Yeah, Yeah. 00:41:28.86\00:41:30.36 >>So when I get up in the morning. 00:41:30.36\00:41:32.46 I look in the mirror. 00:41:32.46\00:41:33.70 I say awe there's a couple of things about myself I don't 00:41:33.70\00:41:35.06 like. 00:41:35.06\00:41:36.20 >>Are you talking about physical things or just like your 00:41:36.20\00:41:37.03 personality. 00:41:37.03\00:41:37.83 >>Being an example. 00:41:37.83\00:41:38.66 >>Okay got it. 00:41:38.66\00:41:39.73 >>Being kind of like an illustration of who I am. 00:41:39.73\00:41:41.40 So there are some things I see in the mirror of God's love that 00:41:41.40\00:41:43.76 I don't like. 00:41:43.76\00:41:46.26 >>Okay got it. 00:41:46.26\00:41:47.33 >>But I hope that I'll be better. 00:41:47.33\00:41:48.83 I hope. 00:41:48.83\00:41:49.73 I give myself room to grow. 00:41:49.73\00:41:51.03 I give myself room to 00:41:51.03\00:41:52.13 >>Oh I like that. 00:41:52.13\00:41:53.26 >>to have. 00:41:53.26\00:41:54.06 I have an expectation for myself. 00:41:54.06\00:41:55.43 That's the way we love our neighbor because there's a lot 00:41:55.43\00:41:56.83 of things about other people we may not like. 00:41:56.83\00:41:58.46 >>I just noticed something. 00:41:58.46\00:41:59.80 I love, love, love what you just said. 00:41:59.80\00:42:01.60 You said verse 7 in First Corinthians 13 Bears all things, 00:42:01.60\00:42:05.30 believes all things, hopes all things. 00:42:05.30\00:42:06.56 But then now you're bringing out a point that really I don't know 00:42:06.56\00:42:09.46 if you noticed this. 00:42:09.46\00:42:10.43 Is brought out in verse 6. 00:42:10.43\00:42:11.70 It says that love or God because God is love does not rejoice in 00:42:11.70\00:42:15.53 iniquity but rejoices in the truth. 00:42:15.53\00:42:17.00 >>Love it. 00:42:17.00\00:42:18.26 >>So isn't it possible for love to be rejoicing about certain 00:42:18.26\00:42:22.33 things about myself or about a person I am having a 00:42:22.33\00:42:26.60 relationship. 00:42:26.60\00:42:27.90 But not being excited at all. 00:42:27.90\00:42:29.60 >>Not liking. 00:42:29.60\00:42:31.13 >>Not liking other things about myself or somebody I'm having a 00:42:31.13\00:42:35.20 relationship with. 00:42:35.20\00:42:36.43 You see what I'm saying in that verse? 00:42:36.43\00:42:37.96 Is that there? 00:42:37.96\00:42:38.93 >>Yes it's in verse 6. 00:42:38.93\00:42:40.23 >>Does not rejoice in iniquity. 00:42:40.23\00:42:41.70 Sometimes we say that God loves the sinner but hates the sin. 00:42:41.70\00:42:45.16 That's right there. 00:42:45.16\00:42:46.76 He doesn't rejoice in the bad things that we do and the bad 00:42:46.76\00:42:49.23 traits that we've developed. 00:42:49.23\00:42:51.33 But he rejoices in the good things about us. 00:42:51.33\00:42:53.40 Right? 00:42:53.40\00:42:54.66 >>One of the things I think we're going to have to come to 00:42:54.66\00:42:56.86 grips with here is that over the course of our life. 00:42:56.86\00:43:00.60 Jeffrey's 30. 00:43:00.60\00:43:01.80 I'm 40. 00:43:01.80\00:43:03.00 You guys are close to 50 bordering in it. 00:43:03.00\00:43:05.76 As we get older we become the composite of the decisions that 00:43:05.76\00:43:11.96 we've made. 00:43:11.96\00:43:13.53 So we begin to identify ourselves with either love and 00:43:13.53\00:43:17.33 goodness and godliness. 00:43:17.33\00:43:19.20 Or we begin to identify ourselves with selfishness and 00:43:19.20\00:43:21.23 what it says iniquity here. 00:43:21.23\00:43:22.56 And that identification according to scripture can 00:43:22.56\00:43:25.63 become so--the division between the action and the actor can 00:43:25.63\00:43:29.50 become so seem less that at the end of time God chooses not to 00:43:29.50\00:43:35.10 save people. 00:43:35.10\00:43:36.20 Not because of an arbitrary choice. 00:43:36.20\00:43:37.90 But because they have become so identified with the action, with 00:43:37.90\00:43:41.36 the thing, with the godlessness, with the hate or the cruelty or 00:43:41.36\00:43:44.53 whatever it is. 00:43:44.53\00:43:46.53 That they themselves are unsavable. 00:43:46.53\00:43:48.73 In fact it's not even best to say that God chooses not to. 00:43:48.73\00:43:52.10 God honors the choices that they have made. 00:43:52.10\00:43:54.56 >>Yeah a short way to say, you know it's kind of scary, 00:43:54.56\00:43:57.90 probably the better word it's sobering what you just said to 00:43:57.90\00:44:00.43 me. 00:44:00.43\00:44:01.23 But a short way to say that is. 00:44:01.23\00:44:02.76 That we make our decisions and then our decisions make us. 00:44:02.76\00:44:05.76 >>I love that. 00:44:05.76\00:44:06.96 >>Right? 00:44:06.96\00:44:07.86 >>That's exactly right. 00:44:07.86\00:44:09.43 >>What we're choosing to do things and then those choices 00:44:09.43\00:44:11.30 are reacting to shape us psychologically, emotionally, 00:44:11.30\00:44:15.06 morally. 00:44:15.06\00:44:16.26 Our relationships are changed by our decisions and we're 00:44:16.26\00:44:19.23 gradually either growing into the likeness of God. 00:44:19.23\00:44:24.40 In our own unique characters. 00:44:24.40\00:44:26.33 Or we are becoming more and more like the ugly traits in our 00:44:26.33\00:44:31.36 self. 00:44:31.36\00:44:32.56 And they're magnifying and taking up space in our hearts 00:44:32.56\00:44:34.73 and minds. 00:44:34.73\00:44:35.60 Until we are so identified with the bad. 00:44:35.60\00:44:37.73 That there's no room for the good. 00:44:37.73\00:44:40.03 >>It's like a cycle right? 00:44:40.03\00:44:41.26 >>Yeah. 00:44:41.26\00:44:42.20 >>Character feeds actions. 00:44:42.20\00:44:43.40 But actions. 00:44:43.40\00:44:44.83 >>Reinforce character. 00:44:44.83\00:44:48.13 >>And develop character. 00:44:48.13\00:44:49.36 It's like a cycle. 00:44:49.36\00:44:50.80 It feeds. 00:44:50.80\00:44:51.93 >>The older we get the more solidified that becomes. 00:44:51.93\00:44:54.30 It's not that you can't teach old dog new tricks. 00:44:54.30\00:44:57.16 But just that once you're in the habit of 20, 30, 40 years of 00:44:57.16\00:45:01.00 doing a certain way. 00:45:01.00\00:45:02.10 Or thinking a certain way. 00:45:02.10\00:45:03.36 Doing something a certain way. 00:45:03.36\00:45:04.63 It takes supernatural things to break through that thing that 00:45:04.63\00:45:10.90 you have become so identified with. 00:45:10.90\00:45:12.23 And it might be something that you yourself don't like. 00:45:12.23\00:45:14.40 But God looks at the thing and says man I hate that thing. 00:45:14.40\00:45:16.63 >>Mhm. 00:45:16.63\00:45:17.40 >>Because God hates iniquity. 00:45:17.40\00:45:18.26 >>He hates it because he loves you. 00:45:18.26\00:45:19.56 >>That's true. 00:45:19.56\00:45:21.03 >>But at the same time love never fails, that's verse 8 of 00:45:21.03\00:45:23.33 First Corinthians 13. 00:45:23.33\00:45:24.46 Love never fails. 00:45:24.46\00:45:25.73 It's really important for us to be able to identify ourselves in 00:45:25.73\00:45:28.73 the context of the way that God looks at us. 00:45:28.73\00:45:31.80 >>Yeah. 00:45:31.80\00:45:32.80 >>Don't you think? 00:45:32.80\00:45:33.86 >>Yeah, you know all this talk about mirrors. 00:45:33.86\00:45:35.53 You were mentioning about looking in the mirror. 00:45:35.53\00:45:37.23 You just imagine, you know, the girl standing in front of the 00:45:37.23\00:45:39.63 mirror. 00:45:39.63\00:45:40.83 And just covering herself up, whether it's makeup or the 00:45:40.83\00:45:47.40 clothes that she chooses. 00:45:47.40\00:45:48.93 And just painting--creating this new persona. 00:45:48.93\00:45:51.33 Because she's so--she's aching inside. 00:45:51.33\00:45:54.10 Because she doesn't sense her--she doesn't see value in 00:45:54.10\00:45:59.06 herself. 00:45:59.06\00:46:00.63 And so her entire life is this desperate, grasping. 00:46:00.63\00:46:03.60 This desperate attempt to be somebody who she's not. 00:46:03.60\00:46:07.20 She's not comfortable in her own skin and you just look at all 00:46:07.20\00:46:11.06 the pain and all the aching in the world. 00:46:11.06\00:46:13.10 And it's --this planet is populated by billions of people 00:46:13.10\00:46:16.76 in search of themselves. 00:46:16.76\00:46:20.63 Of who they are. 00:46:20.63\00:46:22.00 And. 00:46:22.00\00:46:23.56 >>That's a great answer. 00:46:23.56\00:46:24.80 >>There's another cycle here. 00:46:24.80\00:46:26.00 Our concept of who God is determines our concept of who we 00:46:26.00\00:46:30.96 are. 00:46:30.96\00:46:32.16 So our understanding of the character of God is where we 00:46:32.16\00:46:35.60 glean our understanding of ourselves. 00:46:35.60\00:46:37.86 And that's why when you analyze different world views with 00:46:37.86\00:46:40.63 different views of who God is you see it reflected. 00:46:40.63\00:46:45.00 You see the reflection. 00:46:45.00\00:46:46.60 >>In the culture. 00:46:46.60\00:46:47.76 >>In the culture and in the lives of the individuals. 00:46:47.76\00:46:49.20 And so that's why--that's why we're so we're discussing this 00:46:49.20\00:46:53.66 God is love. 00:46:53.66\00:46:56.03 We're discussing this what is God? 00:46:56.03\00:46:57.33 What is He like? 00:46:57.33\00:46:58.46 Because that's critical because if we get that wrong. 00:46:58.46\00:47:00.66 >>You get everything else wrong. 00:47:00.66\00:47:02.26 >>It's like a domino effect. 00:47:02.26\00:47:03.30 Everything else goes south. 00:47:03.30\00:47:05.33 >> Well let's make this really practical. 00:47:05.33\00:47:07.73 So are you saying that, for example, if I have a picture of 00:47:07.73\00:47:11.63 God. 00:47:11.63\00:47:12.90 A belief system about God that has him standing toward me in an 00:47:12.90\00:47:17.76 attitude of condemnation. 00:47:17.76\00:47:20.16 Am I then going to view myself through the lens of that 00:47:20.16\00:47:24.63 condemnation? 00:47:24.63\00:47:26.20 And when somebody fails me my natural inclination is going to 00:47:26.20\00:47:31.76 be to relate to them harshly. 00:47:31.76\00:47:33.40 And to condemn them for their failures rather than be quick 00:47:33.40\00:47:37.06 and ready to forgive them. 00:47:37.06\00:47:38.60 Because if I don't think God can forgive me. 00:47:38.60\00:47:41.33 If God in my picture of him is not forgiving. 00:47:41.33\00:47:45.06 I mean you really gotta twist his arm to get him. 00:47:45.06\00:47:47.43 You gotta just plead and beg and do penance and go on pilgrimage 00:47:47.43\00:47:52.30 or whatever the worldview has to be. 00:47:52.30\00:47:54.43 If you need to force God to forgive you and he's reluctant. 00:47:54.43\00:47:57.93 Isn't that going to make me more reluctant? 00:47:57.93\00:48:01.26 >>Of course. 00:48:01.26\00:48:02.30 >>To forgive somebody who fails me. 00:48:02.30\00:48:03.73 >>Yeah you're gonna project to others your perception of God. 00:48:03.73\00:48:06.73 This is actually hinted at--I'm not even sure it's a hint. 00:48:06.73\00:48:10.50 This is blatant in the statement Jesus made the two great 00:48:10.50\00:48:13.66 commandments. 00:48:13.66\00:48:14.86 I was reading here in Mark chapter 12 and it says in verse 00:48:14.86\00:48:17.43 29 Jesus is approached and somebody says what are the 00:48:17.43\00:48:21.96 greatest commandments? 00:48:21.96\00:48:23.23 And he says well the first one is love the Lord your God with 00:48:23.23\00:48:26.73 all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and 00:48:26.73\00:48:29.56 with all your strength. 00:48:29.56\00:48:30.53 This is the first commandment. 00:48:30.53\00:48:31.83 And then he says the second one is and he addresses love for 00:48:31.83\00:48:36.03 other people. 00:48:36.03\00:48:37.23 And so that order. 00:48:37.23\00:48:38.40 >>Vertical horizontal. 00:48:38.40\00:48:40.20 >>But the sequence is pivotal. 00:48:40.20\00:48:42.00 We live in a world where everyone is interested in love. 00:48:42.00\00:48:44.20 We talked about the other day. 00:48:44.20\00:48:45.66 The songs we listen to on the radio. 00:48:45.66\00:48:47.70 The movies, it's all about love. 00:48:47.70\00:48:48.80 We're all in search of love. 00:48:48.80\00:48:51.20 But we're all trying to figure out how can we get satisfied 00:48:51.20\00:48:53.50 with love. 00:48:53.50\00:48:54.30 >>At the horizontal level. 00:48:54.30\00:48:56.26 >>At the horizontal level bypassing the first commandment. 00:48:56.26\00:48:58.70 Jesus said the first one is the first one. 00:48:58.70\00:49:01.63 The second one is the second one. 00:49:01.63\00:49:03.03 For a reason. 00:49:03.03\00:49:04.20 If you jump to number two before you nail number one. 00:49:04.20\00:49:07.06 You get what we get in our society. 00:49:07.06\00:49:08.96 >>That's kind of a broken illicit love. 00:49:08.96\00:49:11.96 It's not even love that we're looking for on the horizontal 00:49:11.96\00:49:15.20 level because before you tap into and begin to experience 00:49:15.20\00:49:18.70 God's Agape love as we talked about. 00:49:18.70\00:49:21.30 His unilateral selfless other centered love. 00:49:21.30\00:49:23.70 The only way you can love somebody is with 00:49:23.70\00:49:26.76 self-centeredness. 00:49:26.76\00:49:30.00 Right? 00:49:30.00\00:49:31.13 You gotta--you're always looking for them to satisfy you. 00:49:31.13\00:49:32.40 You know sometimes people say in relationships, in marriage 00:49:32.40\00:49:35.50 relationships--you know you don't love me the way I need to 00:49:35.50\00:49:38.30 be loved. 00:49:38.30\00:49:39.36 Or you're not meeting my needs. 00:49:39.36\00:49:40.40 Well the entire paradigm is wrong. 00:49:40.40\00:49:42.23 Right? 00:49:42.23\00:49:44.80 The whole premise is wrong because the point of a 00:49:44.80\00:49:47.50 relationship from my perspective is the serve you and meet your 00:49:47.50\00:49:51.96 needs. 00:49:51.96\00:49:53.13 Not to use you to meet mine. 00:49:53.13\00:49:54.50 But then when you flip it. 00:49:54.50\00:49:56.56 The whole point of the relationship from your 00:49:56.56\00:49:58.80 perspective is to meet my needs. 00:49:58.80\00:50:00.96 Right? 00:50:00.96\00:50:03.40 So if I'm looking out my eyes it's all about you. 00:50:03.40\00:50:06.00 If you're looking out your eyes it's all about me. 00:50:06.00\00:50:07.96 The moment I say you know what? 00:50:07.96\00:50:09.30 This whole thing where you're all into me. 00:50:09.30\00:50:13.53 I think that's the way we ought to go with this. 00:50:13.53\00:50:16.23 >>I think you're on to something here. 00:50:16.23\00:50:18.36 >>Yeah you're on to something here. 00:50:18.36\00:50:19.70 I think since you're all about me I'll be all about me. 00:50:19.70\00:50:22.06 And keep using you to satisfy me. 00:50:22.06\00:50:24.30 >>You're saying that's broken. 00:50:24.30\00:50:25.76 >>That's broken. 00:50:25.76\00:50:27.00 >>The more you focus on the emphasis is on the other 00:50:27.00\00:50:29.26 individual. 00:50:29.26\00:50:29.96 The more it reciprocates. 00:50:29.96\00:50:31.20 So it's a perfect plan that God has--the universe is run in 00:50:31.20\00:50:34.70 terms of God's kindgom in a brilliant principle. 00:50:34.70\00:50:38.80 Because love solves all of these social issues. 00:50:38.80\00:50:41.23 Because the more you invest in an individual the more that 00:50:41.23\00:50:43.96 reciprocates. 00:50:43.96\00:50:44.96 And it's a cycle. 00:50:44.96\00:50:46.53 >>Isn't that something? 00:50:46.53\00:50:47.73 >>You touched on something earlier Jeffrey. 00:50:47.73\00:50:48.76 You were just using it as an illustration. 00:50:48.76\00:50:49.96 I think we need to speak directly to it. 00:50:49.96\00:50:51.36 And that is the girl in the mirror. 00:50:51.36\00:50:53.16 That doesn't mean to imply that if, you know a girl or a guy 00:50:53.16\00:50:55.43 wants to look nice that they're insecure and they don't' know 00:50:55.43\00:50:56.86 who they are. 00:50:56.86\00:50:58.30 But your point is a point well taken. 00:50:58.30\00:50:59.56 >>Self-worth yeah. 00:50:59.56\00:51:01.36 >>All of us whether the girl in the mirror or David or Ty. 00:51:01.36\00:51:04.43 I mean us at this table and the people that are listening in. 00:51:04.43\00:51:07.60 We have those measures. 00:51:07.60\00:51:09.60 Those standards by which we evaluate ourselves. 00:51:09.60\00:51:12.43 And those standards or measures can come from a variety of 00:51:12.43\00:51:15.33 places. 00:51:15.33\00:51:16.43 They can come from the world. 00:51:16.43\00:51:17.33 They can come from media. 00:51:17.33\00:51:18.20 They can come from fashion. 00:51:18.20\00:51:19.03 They can come from magazines. 00:51:19.03\00:51:20.03 They can come from the expectations of peers. 00:51:20.03\00:51:21.40 We all have this at the table. 00:51:21.40\00:51:23.16 The trick the beauty is to allow. 00:51:23.16\00:51:26.16 This is what I think you are saying then too. 00:51:26.16\00:51:28.06 Is before we here all the other competing voices about who you 00:51:28.06\00:51:32.66 should be and what you should be. 00:51:32.66\00:51:33.80 And what you should do and what you should look like. 00:51:33.80\00:51:35.33 And what you should wear. 00:51:35.33\00:51:36.20 We need to hear God's voice. 00:51:36.20\00:51:37.60 And when we are solid and secure in who we are in God, in Christ. 00:51:37.60\00:51:42.40 What we are made to be. 00:51:42.40\00:51:43.56 All these other voices can have a place at the table. 00:51:43.56\00:51:46.13 But they may not have--they don't have the most important 00:51:46.13\00:51:49.83 place. 00:51:49.83\00:51:51.06 I'd say it this way God's voice has the throne and the other 00:51:51.06\00:51:53.36 voices have a place at the table. 00:51:53.36\00:51:55.46 >>That's nice. 00:51:55.46\00:51:56.63 It's kind of the audience of one idea. 00:51:56.63\00:51:57.90 >>You know I coined a word for that. 00:51:57.90\00:52:00.33 The audience 'cause you have the word God. 00:52:00.33\00:52:03.16 And then you have the word audience. 00:52:03.16\00:52:04.50 So I put the two together Gaudience. 00:52:04.50\00:52:06.80 >>Oh that's excellent. 00:52:06.80\00:52:08.26 >>We live for the Gaudience of one. 00:52:08.26\00:52:09.20 For God is our audience. 00:52:09.20\00:52:11.20 And it doesn't mean that I don't care what Ty thinks about me. 00:52:11.20\00:52:14.20 I do. 00:52:14.20\00:52:15.46 I care very much what TY thinks about me and Jeffrey and James. 00:52:15.46\00:52:17.30 Because I love you guys. 00:52:17.30\00:52:18.96 But what the media is telling me. 00:52:18.96\00:52:21.06 Or the movies are telling me. 00:52:21.06\00:52:22.33 Or the men's fitness magazine that you have to be this do this 00:52:22.33\00:52:24.36 whatever it is. 00:52:24.36\00:52:25.50 I know I can eeeee tune that out and tune in what God. 00:52:25.50\00:52:29.56 >>Yeah. 00:52:29.56\00:52:30.83 >>What God thinks about it. 00:52:30.83\00:52:32.13 >>yeah, yeah. 00:52:32.13\00:52:33.20 >>That was pivotal in my journey because similar. 00:52:33.20\00:52:34.43 I guess we all had a sort of experience or encounter near our 00:52:34.43\00:52:39.43 teen years. 00:52:39.43\00:52:40.56 But not--growing up with a single mom when there's no 00:52:40.56\00:52:44.80 father in the house. 00:52:44.80\00:52:46.60 You have to figure out what does it mean to be man. 00:52:46.60\00:52:48.83 >>Hmmm 00:52:48.83\00:52:49.96 >>Hmmm 00:52:49.96\00:52:50.76 >>Right? 00:52:50.76\00:52:51.40 I had to figure that out. 00:52:51.40\00:52:52.20 >>Yeah. 00:52:52.20\00:52:53.46 >>The world is telling me I have to figure out what it is to be a 00:52:53.46\00:52:54.93 man. 00:52:54.93\00:52:55.70 Well if dad's not in the home. 00:52:55.70\00:52:57.36 Well what's going to be my source? 00:52:57.36\00:52:58.76 What will be my reference point? 00:52:58.76\00:53:00.40 So it's MTV or it's--so then you figure out. 00:53:00.40\00:53:02.93 >>Heaven forbid. 00:53:02.93\00:53:03.73 >>The way that I dress. 00:53:03.73\00:53:04.70 >>The way you project yourself. 00:53:04.70\00:53:06.50 >>The way I talk. 00:53:06.50\00:53:07.56 The way that I project myself. 00:53:07.56\00:53:09.30 All that is--is I'm just mirroring some persona that I'm 00:53:09.30\00:53:13.76 watching or that I'm looking up to. 00:53:13.76\00:53:16.56 And I'm trying to be that person. 00:53:16.56\00:53:18.06 So I talk the way that I talk. 00:53:18.06\00:53:19.96 I dress the way that I dress. 00:53:19.96\00:53:21.03 And that's exactly the transaction that needs to 00:53:21.03\00:53:24.43 happen. 00:53:24.43\00:53:25.66 That's what we find in God is we find our reference point. 00:53:25.66\00:53:27.36 Who am I? 00:53:27.36\00:53:30.16 Who was I created to be? 00:53:30.16\00:53:31.86 This comes right back to where we began in Genesis 00:53:31.86\00:53:33.76 and asking the question basically why did God create us 00:53:33.76\00:53:37.40 in the first place, ya know, what is a human being? 00:53:37.40\00:53:41.20 And we discover in the Genesis account that human beings were 00:53:41.20\00:53:45.73 made by God, as you pointed out in Isaiah 43:7 For God's glory. 00:53:45.73\00:53:52.36 But let's just wrap some more language in that. 00:53:52.36\00:53:55.10 There's a collection of capacities that a human being 00:53:55.10\00:54:00.06 has, right? 00:54:00.06\00:54:01.26 We can say number one, we are intellectual creatures or 00:54:01.26\00:54:03.63 rational creatures. 00:54:03.63\00:54:04.66 >>Mhm. 00:54:04.66\00:54:05.56 >>Right? 00:54:05.56\00:54:06.20 We have the capacity 00:54:06.20\00:54:07.20 >>To learn. 00:54:07.20\00:54:08.80 >>Think, to learn. 00:54:08.80\00:54:09.63 Okay. 00:54:09.63\00:54:10.33 >>Deduce. 00:54:10.33\00:54:11.13 >>We're also emotional creatures. 00:54:11.13\00:54:12.26 We're also volitional creatures or free will creatures. 00:54:12.26\00:54:15.56 We make decisions. 00:54:15.56\00:54:16.76 And as they said then they make us. 00:54:16.76\00:54:18.06 We're relational creatures. 00:54:18.06\00:54:20.46 You know all of these things. 00:54:20.46\00:54:22.66 >>We're creative. 00:54:22.66\00:54:23.96 >>We're creative beings. 00:54:23.96\00:54:25.56 Right? 00:54:25.56\00:54:26.43 Not only procreative but creativity. 00:54:26.43\00:54:28.80 I mean God said okay here's this garden. 00:54:28.80\00:54:30.83 >>Make it beautiful. 00:54:30.83\00:54:32.80 >>Now I want you. 00:54:32.80\00:54:34.36 Yeah it's a beautiful garden the Garden of Eden. 00:54:34.36\00:54:36.60 Now I want you to tend to it. 00:54:36.60\00:54:37.63 To manage it. 00:54:37.63\00:54:38.90 And you get the implication that they were to grow the garden. 00:54:38.90\00:54:41.36 That is to expand it so that the whole world would become an 00:54:41.36\00:54:45.16 Eden. 00:54:45.16\00:54:46.90 >>Yes that's right. 00:54:46.90\00:54:47.86 >>So apply your creativity. 00:54:47.86\00:54:49.60 >>Naming of the animals. 00:54:49.60\00:54:50.90 >>The naming of the animals is an expression of God basically 00:54:50.90\00:54:52.96 saying hey. 00:54:52.96\00:54:54.20 >>Figure this out. 00:54:54.20\00:54:55.23 >>Get creative. 00:54:55.23\00:54:56.36 I'm not going to tell you the answer to every issue. 00:54:56.36\00:54:58.80 I want you to name the--I love that. 00:54:58.80\00:55:01.33 I want you to name the animals. 00:55:01.33\00:55:02.76 I want you to use your mind to come up with something to name 00:55:02.76\00:55:07.30 the animals. 00:55:07.30\00:55:08.36 >>And whatever you come up with we'll roll with it. 00:55:08.36\00:55:09.80 God said we'll roll with it. 00:55:09.80\00:55:11.43 Yeah I like that. 00:55:11.43\00:55:13.10 We'll roll with it. 00:55:13.10\00:55:14.30 >>Yeah, yeah. 00:55:14.30\00:55:16.83 >>Isn't that something? 00:55:16.83\00:55:17.80 God's a delegator for sure. 00:55:17.80\00:55:18.60 He's not a control freak. 00:55:18.60\00:55:19.83 >>So Ty what I'm hearing you say then is that you have these 00:55:19.83\00:55:22.16 capacities intellectual, emotional, volitional, 00:55:22.16\00:55:24.13 relational, creative. 00:55:24.13\00:55:24.93 That's the kind of person God is. 00:55:24.93\00:55:27.30 So he made us those kinds of people intellectual, emotional. 00:55:27.30\00:55:31.46 >>In his likeness. 00:55:31.46\00:55:32.50 >>Yeah. 00:55:32.50\00:55:33.30 >>Isn't that something? 00:55:33.30\00:55:34.50 >>That's absolutely beautiful. 00:55:34.50\00:55:35.50 Now let me say this. 00:55:35.50\00:55:36.36 What do you think of this? 00:55:36.36\00:55:37.63 You mentioned just MTV earlier but that's a very modern thing, 00:55:37.63\00:55:40.73 right? 00:55:40.73\00:55:42.00 Two hundred years ago what did the world say that a man was or 00:55:42.00\00:55:44.66 a woman was? 00:55:44.66\00:55:46.33 And four hundred years ago what did the world say a man was or a 00:55:46.33\00:55:48.40 woman was? 00:55:48.40\00:55:49.60 It's always changing. 00:55:49.60\00:55:50.50 It's shifting. 00:55:50.50\00:55:51.63 If you look at what was beautiful back in, you know a 00:55:51.63\00:55:54.13 certain old, renaissance era paintings. 00:55:54.13\00:55:56.16 The girls that they thought were the beautiful girls don't look 00:55:56.16\00:55:59.10 like today. 00:55:59.10\00:56:00.06 >>Right. 00:56:00.06\00:56:00.96 >>So here's something that's powerful. 00:56:00.96\00:56:02.23 Fashions shift and the world's perspective of beauty and what 00:56:02.23\00:56:06.56 makes somebody important shifts. 00:56:06.56\00:56:08.46 But God's perspective of what really matters. 00:56:08.46\00:56:12.80 What's really beautiful? 00:56:12.80\00:56:13.73 What makes you a true human? 00:56:13.73\00:56:14.70 The best Jeffrey that you can be. 00:56:14.70\00:56:16.73 That doesn't shift. 00:56:16.73\00:56:18.40 >>Mhm. 00:56:18.40\00:56:19.76 >>That is. 00:56:19.76\00:56:20.56 >>Well why is that? 00:56:20.56\00:56:21.30 >>Because God doesn't shift. 00:56:21.30\00:56:22.36 >>Because it flows from his unchanging character. 00:56:22.36\00:56:23.40 >>God doesn't shift. 00:56:23.40\00:56:25.16 >>Which is--and it flows from his love. 00:56:25.16\00:56:26.53 >>Yeah. 00:56:26.53\00:56:27.63 >>So, so I guess I would sort of say it this way. 00:56:27.63\00:56:29.80 If someone's listening in or even for us. 00:56:29.80\00:56:31.16 And you're thinking to yourself how should I live? 00:56:31.16\00:56:33.83 What should I do? 00:56:33.83\00:56:34.70 What's important in life? 00:56:34.70\00:56:35.73 Who did God make me to be? 00:56:35.73\00:56:37.26 That's the question. 00:56:37.26\00:56:38.36 The world will shift and change. 00:56:38.36\00:56:40.10 And today it's blue and tomorrow it's black. 00:56:40.10\00:56:42.16 And you know you've heard the saying the brown is the new 00:56:42.16\00:56:44.70 black, the black is the new brown and 30 is the new 20 and 00:56:44.70\00:56:46.90 all that. 00:56:46.90\00:56:48.10 No, no, no. 00:56:48.10\00:56:50.10 What does God say? 00:56:50.10\00:56:51.33 He has made us for more than just a purpose to look like this 00:56:51.33\00:56:53.40 and the makeup and the clothes and the abs and all that. 00:56:53.40\00:56:57.36 God has made us for something transcendent not that those are 00:56:57.36\00:57:00.13 unimportant. 00:57:00.13\00:57:01.93 But he's made us for something bigger. 00:57:01.93\00:57:03.20 For something grander and as the creator he is the one uniquely 00:57:03.20\00:57:04.76 qualified to tell us this is why I made you. 00:57:04.76\00:57:09.83 >>Wow it's beautiful. 00:57:09.83\00:57:11.70 Well guys we have one minute. 00:57:11.70\00:57:12.70 So. 00:57:12.70\00:57:13.53 >>How would you summarize. 00:57:13.53\00:57:15.73 >>Two things. 00:57:15.73\00:57:16.63 >>James summarize it. 00:57:16.63\00:57:17.80 >>Number one God is first. 00:57:17.80\00:57:19.06 In order for us to love this way vertically horizontally we need 00:57:19.06\00:57:22.10 to love. 00:57:22.10\00:57:23.13 We need to understand vertical. 00:57:23.13\00:57:24.23 >>Yeah. 00:57:24.23\00:57:25.20 >>And then number two what is love? 00:57:25.20\00:57:26.53 So let's just say we get that right. 00:57:26.53\00:57:28.40 We put God first but who is God? 00:57:28.40\00:57:30.10 What is love? 00:57:30.10\00:57:31.96 Let's identify love at its source. 00:57:31.96\00:57:33.80 Because we can get a wrong conception of what love is even 00:57:33.80\00:57:38.33 though we have the right order. 00:57:38.33\00:57:41.06 That love comes first from God in order. 00:57:41.06\00:57:43.03 >>Okay so what is love? 00:57:43.03\00:57:43.90 >>So what is love? 00:57:43.90\00:57:44.96 Love defined First Corinthians chapter 13 is other 00:57:44.96\00:57:47.40 centeredness. 00:57:47.40\00:57:48.83 It's selfless. 00:57:48.83\00:57:51.06 It's putting the other person. 00:57:51.06\00:57:52.36 It's projecting out rather than projecting in. 00:57:52.36\00:57:54.90 >>Yeah. 00:57:54.90\00:57:56.00 >>And that can only come from another source because 00:57:56.00\00:57:57.56 >>Yes. 00:57:57.56\00:57:58.40 >>All of us by nature are selfish. 00:57:58.40\00:57:59.43 >>That's right. 00:57:59.43\00:58:01.26 >>We're all thinking first. 00:58:01.26\00:58:02.60 >>We're wired for self-preservation. 00:58:02.60\00:58:03.86 >>This has been such a great discussion. 00:58:03.86\00:58:05.23 I have, yeah. 00:58:05.23\00:58:06.06 I thoroughly enjoyed this. 00:58:06.06\00:58:07.26 I've gotten so much out of what we've been talking about. 00:58:07.26\00:58:08.96 We're going to a little bit darker place next. 00:58:08.96\00:58:11.76 We're going to talk about the fall in our next show. 00:58:11.76\00:58:13.80 >>Because God's original plan was thwarted. 00:58:13.80\00:58:15.33 >>Yeah. 00:58:15.33\00:58:16.20 But that will be good too. 00:58:16.20\00:58:17.50 We'll get some good news. 00:58:17.50\00:58:18.43 >>Amen. 00:58:18.43\00:58:19.23 >>Amen. 00:58:19.23\00:58:20.50 >>To receive our free monthly newsletter and a list of Light
