Good evening once again, and I want to welcome all of you 00:01:08.94\00:01:10.92 who have gathered here in studio audience 00:01:10.95\00:01:12.80 in Simi Valley, California, to hear Pastor Shawn Boonstra 00:01:12.83\00:01:17.39 of the internationally acclaimed "It is Written" TV program, 00:01:17.42\00:01:21.05 present the second in a series called "The Presence". 00:01:21.08\00:01:25.60 Tonight, he's going to be talking about the mysteries 00:01:25.63\00:01:27.94 of the ancients. 00:01:27.97\00:01:29.53 You know, the things that we can find in Scripture, 00:01:29.56\00:01:31.80 and the things that Pastor Boonstra is going to share 00:01:31.83\00:01:33.74 tonight, make the mystery novels that you can see 00:01:33.77\00:01:36.64 on the New York Times Best Seller List seem like kids play. 00:01:36.67\00:01:40.09 The word of God is full of all kinds of wonderful things 00:01:40.12\00:01:42.60 that intrigue our minds, but God intends 00:01:42.63\00:01:46.70 for us to understand those mysteries and Pastor Boonstra 00:01:46.73\00:01:49.58 is going to lay out an explanation of many of these 00:01:49.61\00:01:53.04 mysteries of the ancients. For those of you who are watching 00:01:53.07\00:01:56.33 by TV tonight, and those who may be watching 00:01:56.36\00:01:58.57 by a DVD, we just went to welcome you and thank you 00:01:58.60\00:02:01.32 for participating with us in "The Presence". 00:02:01.35\00:02:04.43 Now for our studio audience here in Southern California, 00:02:04.46\00:02:06.30 would you please welcome Pastor Shawn Boonstra. 00:02:06.33\00:02:09.56 Good evening. 00:02:16.33\00:02:18.93 Welcome back to "The Presence". 00:02:20.61\00:02:22.63 I'm glad that you're here for our second meeting. 00:02:22.66\00:02:26.09 Our subject tonight is, as Dan just told you: 00:02:26.12\00:02:29.62 "Mysteries of the Ancients", now before we begin, 00:02:29.65\00:02:33.25 because my presentation will be based on the word of God 00:02:33.28\00:02:36.71 I invite you to bow your heads with me in a word of prayer. 00:02:36.74\00:02:40.45 Father in heaven, we believe in our hearts 00:02:40.48\00:02:43.39 that the book that we're about to open is not like 00:02:43.42\00:02:46.63 the other books that we can find in a book shop. 00:02:46.66\00:02:49.65 This is Your voice, this is Your will for the human race, 00:02:49.68\00:02:53.41 this is Your good news for us tonight. 00:02:53.44\00:02:56.13 We ask that you would open our hearts and minds most of all, 00:02:56.16\00:02:59.90 so that we can see You and hear You leading in our lives, 00:02:59.93\00:03:03.22 for we ask it in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:03:03.25\00:03:07.81 When the Da Vinci Code hit book stores a couple of years ago, 00:03:07.84\00:03:11.39 and then hit movie theaters a few months back, 00:03:11.42\00:03:14.63 a lot of people got upset, why? 00:03:14.66\00:03:17.95 Because Dan Brown dared to suggest that everything we know 00:03:17.98\00:03:22.71 about Jesus of Nazareth over the last 2000 years 00:03:22.74\00:03:25.92 has been absolutely wrong. Dan Brown tells us in his book, 00:03:25.95\00:03:30.41 for example, that: 00:03:30.44\00:03:33.12 And that today there are people who can claim that they are 00:03:36.45\00:03:39.18 direct ancestors of Jesus Christ. 00:03:39.21\00:03:42.21 Furthermore, Dan Brown told us that: 00:03:42.24\00:03:45.55 You can see why Christians started to get a little upset 00:03:59.09\00:04:01.56 with this book. Then Dan Brown said that 00:04:01.59\00:04:04.45 Ones other than Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, 00:04:08.44\00:04:11.18 he said that there were many other gospels that have been 00:04:11.21\00:04:13.97 hidden so that nobody would find out the truth. 00:04:14.00\00:04:17.22 Why did Christians get mad? They got mad because 00:04:17.25\00:04:20.75 if what Dan Brown is saying is remotely true, 00:04:20.78\00:04:24.35 it pulls the rug out from underneath the Christian 00:04:24.38\00:04:26.35 religion, and it would lead to the conclusion, eventually, 00:04:26.38\00:04:29.72 that the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, 00:04:29.75\00:04:32.68 as portrayed in the Bible, didn't happen at all. 00:04:32.71\00:04:36.20 Now, where did Dan Brown get his evidence for his 00:04:36.23\00:04:40.00 so called theory? He found it in a group 00:04:40.03\00:04:43.13 of writings known as the "Gnostic Gospels". 00:04:43.16\00:04:46.95 The Gnostics were an ancient sect of people 00:04:46.98\00:04:49.94 who had very strange beliefs, and they wrote a series of books 00:04:49.97\00:04:53.53 about 100 years after the New Testament had been written. 00:04:53.56\00:04:58.63 These books were discovered in the deserts of Egypt 00:04:58.66\00:05:00.83 at Nag Hammad in the 1970s, and they've discovered 00:05:00.86\00:05:04.99 that these Gnostics had a set of beliefs quite different 00:05:05.02\00:05:08.04 from that of the Christianity found between the pages 00:05:08.07\00:05:12.34 of the Bible. 00:05:12.37\00:05:13.81 The Gnostics, for example, believed that only a certain 00:05:13.84\00:05:17.42 group of people are going get to go to heaven 00:05:17.45\00:05:19.87 based on how intelligent they are. 00:05:19.90\00:05:22.53 Only the smart get to get into the kingdom of heaven 00:05:22.56\00:05:25.77 and your admittance into the kingdom of heaven 00:05:25.80\00:05:28.44 is completely reliant on how enlightened you are. 00:05:28.47\00:05:31.99 The Gnostics also believed that creation is a great big 00:05:32.02\00:05:35.56 botch job, some inferior God known as the Demiurge, 00:05:35.59\00:05:40.38 who wasn't supposed to be creating anything 00:05:40.41\00:05:42.98 made the world that we see around us 00:05:43.01\00:05:45.46 and it wasn't supposed to happen at all, 00:05:45.49\00:05:47.65 and the reason Jesus came, the Gnostics said, 00:05:47.68\00:05:50.62 was to tell everybody what had happened way back when, 00:05:50.65\00:05:53.58 and give them the keys of enlightenment to wake up 00:05:53.61\00:05:56.79 their minds. 00:05:56.82\00:05:58.96 Now, Dan Brown says that is original Christianity 00:05:58.99\00:06:01.65 and it's been hidden from us for centuries and centuries. 00:06:01.68\00:06:04.91 He says it's based on the Gnostic Gospels, 00:06:04.94\00:06:07.93 which he claims are much older, earlier, and more reliable 00:06:07.96\00:06:11.68 manuscripts than the Bible we have today. 00:06:11.71\00:06:15.12 He says: 00:06:15.15\00:06:17.07 Now, historically speaking, we know that what Dan Brown says 00:06:22.93\00:06:27.43 is, frankly, a bunch of baloney, and we know it's a bunch 00:06:27.46\00:06:30.80 of baloney because secular historians are running 00:06:30.83\00:06:34.23 as fast as they can away from Dan Brown, even secular, 00:06:34.26\00:06:37.85 atheistic historians are embarrassed by what he's saying. 00:06:37.88\00:06:41.64 They know there's not a stitch of truth to the book 00:06:41.67\00:06:45.62 "The Da Vinci Code". 00:06:45.65\00:06:47.77 That having been said, let me ask you a question: 00:06:47.80\00:06:51.20 is it true that there is a hidden history? 00:06:51.23\00:06:54.52 Yes it is. There is something that nobody 00:06:54.55\00:06:57.72 talks about much any more. 00:06:57.75\00:06:59.77 There is something that not many people are showing us these days 00:06:59.80\00:07:05.34 There are, in ancient history, much more ancient secrets 00:07:05.87\00:07:10.05 than those found in the Gnostics Gospels in the Nag Hammadi 00:07:10.08\00:07:13.74 region of Egypt. The ancient secrets 00:07:13.77\00:07:17.53 that date so much earlier than the Gnostics 00:07:17.56\00:07:20.72 actually reveal a very startling picture of Christianity. 00:07:20.75\00:07:24.98 Before I show that to you, let me review very quickly 00:07:25.01\00:07:28.61 what we looked in our last meeting when we studied 00:07:28.64\00:07:32.30 the Ark of the Covenant. 00:07:32.33\00:07:33.83 Very quickly, let's go through what we've already seen. 00:07:33.86\00:07:36.68 At our last meeting we discovered: 00:07:36.71\00:07:39.14 Except for the lid, which was pure gold, and what 00:07:49.31\00:07:51.73 was the name of the lid? Mercy seat. 00:07:51.76\00:07:53.91 It was the mercy seat, absolutely right. 00:07:53.95\00:07:56.01 We discovered that: 00:07:56.04\00:07:58.06 We also discovered that: 00:08:07.35\00:08:10.07 Moses was shown a pattern of what to build, God said: 00:08:13.50\00:08:16.59 "I want you to make an ark, and I want it to look like this... " 00:08:16.62\00:08:21.01 As we studied that pattern we discovered Moses built the Ark 00:08:21.04\00:08:24.98 after a model of God's throne in heaven. 00:08:25.01\00:08:28.54 It was actually a scaled down model of God's throne 00:08:28.57\00:08:32.34 in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:08:32.37\00:08:34.70 We also discovered: 00:08:34.73\00:08:36.86 And that told us something about what God is like. 00:08:41.68\00:08:45.10 God, it tells us, is both a law abiding, fair and just God, 00:08:45.13\00:08:50.53 who always holds people accountable for what 00:08:50.56\00:08:52.48 they've done, that's why His 10 Commandment 00:08:52.51\00:08:55.02 moral law is inside His throne, but it also tells us 00:08:55.05\00:08:59.28 because His law is covered with the mercy seat 00:08:59.31\00:09:02.28 that God is, in addition to being just, completely merciful, 00:09:02.31\00:09:07.63 and even though we have broken His moral law, 00:09:07.66\00:09:09.89 He provides a way for us 00:09:09.92\00:09:11.85 back into the kingdom of heaven, back into His presence. 00:09:11.88\00:09:15.62 Now, tonight there is more to it then we studied last night. 00:09:15.65\00:09:20.47 I want to show you something tonight that apparently, 00:09:20.50\00:09:23.51 Dan Brown and The Da Vinci Code has missed all together. 00:09:23.54\00:09:28.12 It's the ancient camp of Israel. 00:09:28.15\00:09:31.23 The Ark of the Covenant was located right in the heart 00:09:31.26\00:09:34.26 of the camp, at the very center. 00:09:34.29\00:09:36.76 The tribes, 12 of them, camped around the Sanctuary, 00:09:36.79\00:09:40.90 and inside this tent, inside this tabernacle, 00:09:40.93\00:09:44.20 in the back compartment, the Most Holy Place, 00:09:44.23\00:09:47.25 was the Ark of the Covenant. It was the very focal point 00:09:47.28\00:09:51.10 of the Israelite camp, it was the hub around which 00:09:51.13\00:09:54.34 everything else happened. The presence of God 00:09:54.37\00:09:57.64 above the Ark of the Covenant was the very center 00:09:57.67\00:10:00.95 of the Israelite nation. The presence of God 00:10:00.98\00:10:04.65 was so intimately close to the nation of Israel 00:10:04.68\00:10:08.19 that the Bible describes God's presence among them in very 00:10:08.22\00:10:11.55 unusual terms found in the book of Leviticus 26. 00:10:11.58\00:10:15.91 Listen to what God says beginning in verse 11. 00:10:15.94\00:10:19.62 He says: 00:10:19.65\00:10:21.82 We know that everybody has sinned, we've been cut off 00:10:26.02\00:10:28.74 from God's presence by our sins, but God says: 00:10:28.77\00:10:32.12 "I don't abhor you, I don't hate you," 00:10:32.15\00:10:34.57 "I don't want to push you away. " God says: "I'll put" 00:10:34.60\00:10:36.81 "my tabernacle among you. I will walk among you" 00:10:36.84\00:10:41.43 "and be your God, and you shall be my people. " 00:10:41.46\00:10:44.76 God's presence was so intimately close to Israel that the Bible 00:10:44.79\00:10:48.76 actually describes God as walking among His people. 00:10:48.79\00:10:54.06 We know that God didn't literally walk up and down 00:10:54.09\00:10:56.83 between the tents of Israel because His presence 00:10:56.86\00:10:59.51 would have killed every sinner He walked past, 00:10:59.54\00:11:02.43 yet He chooses to describe Himself as walking among 00:11:02.46\00:11:05.34 His people, He is that intimate with us. 00:11:05.37\00:11:08.14 He desires so much not to be behind the veil, 00:11:08.17\00:11:11.76 not to be inside the tabernacle, but outside with you and I. 00:11:11.79\00:11:16.21 Even though we've rebelled against God, 00:11:16.24\00:11:18.36 turned our backs on Him, walked away from Him, 00:11:18.39\00:11:20.40 He says: "I don't want to be inside here" - He does that 00:11:20.43\00:11:23.80 for our protection, He says: "I don't want to be inside" 00:11:23.83\00:11:26.42 "this tabernacle, I want to be out there walking among you. " 00:11:26.45\00:11:30.19 Now, let me ask you a question: which member of the Godhead 00:11:30.22\00:11:37.54 was there with the nation of Israel? 00:11:37.57\00:11:39.70 In Christianity we know there is God the Father, God the Son, 00:11:39.73\00:11:42.63 and God the Holy Spirit. Who is it that travels 00:11:42.66\00:11:45.71 with Israel in the cloud, and takes up residence inside 00:11:45.74\00:11:48.82 the Most Holy Place, and is right there, desiring to walk 00:11:48.85\00:11:52.11 up and down the lanes between the tents and be with His people 00:11:52.14\00:11:55.35 who is it? 00:11:55.38\00:11:56.36 Well, oh, that's a good guess, you said the answer, 00:11:56.39\00:11:58.95 but let me prove it to you from the Bible. 00:11:58.98\00:12:00.95 Would you like to see the proof? Yes. 00:12:00.98\00:12:03.24 This side would love to see some proof, this side doesn't care 00:12:03.27\00:12:05.94 if I prove it or not; would you like to see proof, yes or no? 00:12:05.97\00:12:09.23 Yes! Alright, here we go. 00:12:09.26\00:12:12.01 Just before Israel enters into the Promised Land, 00:12:12.04\00:12:15.38 a mysterious being appears to Joshua, the leader 00:12:15.41\00:12:18.29 of the Israelites, a fascinating passage in Joshua 5. 00:12:18.32\00:12:22.46 The Bible says: 00:12:22.49\00:12:25.10 Now who is this that appears to Joshua? 00:13:05.52\00:13:08.68 Think about this, it can't be an angel because as you saw 00:13:08.71\00:13:12.02 a moment ago, when Joshua sees Him he bows down and worships. 00:13:12.05\00:13:16.51 If it had been an angel he would have been told to get up 00:13:16.54\00:13:19.55 off His knees, how do I know? The book of Revelation, 00:13:19.58\00:13:22.57 many of you have seen it in Revelation 19:10 when John 00:13:22.60\00:13:26.47 bows down to an angel, the angel's horrified. 00:13:26.50\00:13:29.21 He says: "John, get up off your knees, you're not supposed" 00:13:29.24\00:13:31.66 "to do this, I'm a created being like you. " 00:13:31.69\00:13:34.85 Angels do not accept worship. This being that Joshua sees 00:13:34.88\00:13:38.84 does accept worship. The next thing that happens 00:13:38.87\00:13:41.52 is He tells Joshua "take off your shoes, you're standing" 00:13:41.55\00:13:46.53 "on holy ground. " Now that rings a bell 00:13:46.56\00:13:49.25 for a lot of people because there's another story 00:13:49.28\00:13:52.63 that happens before Israel leaves Egypt. 00:13:52.66\00:13:55.05 This happens at the end of their journey as they're coming 00:13:55.08\00:13:57.36 to the Promise Land, but before they begin their journey, 00:13:57.39\00:14:01.26 Moses sees, in the wilderness, a burning bush. 00:14:01.29\00:14:06.10 You're all good Bible students. Here's what happens 00:14:06.13\00:14:08.49 at the burning bush, Exodus 3:5: 00:14:08.52\00:14:11.47 So who's in the burning bush? Who is it? 00:14:32.66\00:14:34.78 God. Moses then asks Him 00:14:34.81\00:14:37.37 "Who are you?" If you read the same chapter, 00:14:37.40\00:14:40.15 Exodus 3:14, God answers and said: "I am that I am". 00:14:40.18\00:14:45.59 God describes Himself as "I am", He just exists, 00:14:45.62\00:14:50.71 no beginning in time, no end in time, He is the great I am, 00:14:50.74\00:14:54.87 the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 00:14:54.90\00:14:57.80 Now, hundreds of years go by and Jesus comes to earth 00:14:57.83\00:15:01.80 and He's walking among His people and He says 00:15:01.83\00:15:03.27 something interesting to the leaders of Israel, 00:15:03.30\00:15:05.93 and He says it in the Gospel according to John, 00:15:05.96\00:15:09.56 John 8:58, 00:15:09.59\00:15:12.35 Why would anybody want to throw a stone at Jesus? 00:15:24.33\00:15:27.46 Because He just said "I am", He just told them "I'm the one" 00:15:27.49\00:15:32.33 "who was in the burning bush that Moses met. " 00:15:32.36\00:15:35.15 "I'm the one who traveled with the Israelites" 00:15:35.18\00:15:37.24 "through the wilderness. I am the God that appeared" 00:15:37.27\00:15:40.47 "to Israel in the past. " As a matter of fact, 00:15:40.50\00:15:43.02 I believe it's in 1 Corinthians 10:4, 00:15:43.05\00:15:45.84 Paul says it was Christ who followed the Israelites 00:15:45.87\00:15:50.04 through the desert. They wanted to stone Jesus 00:15:50.07\00:15:53.09 because they thought He was committing blasphemy, 00:15:53.12\00:15:55.59 He had just declared Himself to be the living God, 00:15:55.62\00:15:59.77 the Creator of heaven and earth. Jesus said: "I am God", 00:15:59.80\00:16:04.72 and He said that in a statement that predates all 00:16:04.75\00:16:07.34 the Gnostic Gospels by at least 100 years. 00:16:07.37\00:16:10.64 And the incident in the desert with Moses, 00:16:10.67\00:16:12.98 and the incident in the desert with Joshua 00:16:13.01\00:16:15.22 happened hundreds and hundreds of years before there was ever 00:16:15.25\00:16:19.04 a Gnostic on the earth. The church did not make up 00:16:19.07\00:16:22.60 the fact that Jesus was God, Jesus told the world 00:16:22.63\00:16:25.83 that He was God when He came. 00:16:25.86\00:16:29.12 And we know that He was the one who followed Israel 00:16:29.15\00:16:32.34 through the desert. The presence with Israel 00:16:32.37\00:16:36.70 is Jesus Christ, before He was ever born as a human being. 00:16:36.73\00:16:41.32 So apparently, Dan Brown missed something. 00:16:41.35\00:16:45.95 The most ancient documents, the documents found 00:16:45.98\00:16:49.87 in the Old Testament describe Jesus Christ 00:16:49.90\00:16:53.70 as the very presence of God. But there's more, 00:16:53.73\00:16:58.16 there's a bigger picture. We've already seen 00:16:58.19\00:17:01.11 that the Ark is a model of God's throne in heaven. 00:17:01.14\00:17:04.06 We have seen that it shows us God's desire 00:17:04.09\00:17:06.56 to be with His people. He places His presence 00:17:06.59\00:17:09.41 right in the middle of the camp of Israel, 00:17:09.44\00:17:12.79 but them it also shows us God's plan to take the Israelites 00:17:12.82\00:17:17.12 and bring them inside the temple into His presence. 00:17:17.15\00:17:21.10 It shows us God's plan to remove the veil, so that He can be 00:17:21.13\00:17:24.58 with His people with no barrier in between. 00:17:24.61\00:17:28.27 Let's take a look at the Old Testament Tabernacle, 00:17:28.30\00:17:31.65 the place where they kept the Ark in the Most Holy Place. 00:17:31.68\00:17:35.98 The tabernacle had 2 rooms, the Holy Place, this bigger 00:17:36.01\00:17:39.01 room here, and the Most Holy Place, this room furthest in. 00:17:39.04\00:17:43.61 It was all set in a courtyard, and out in the courtyard 00:17:43.64\00:17:46.51 were a number of articles of furniture, 00:17:46.54\00:17:48.86 there were also a number of articles of furniture 00:17:48.89\00:17:50.70 in the Holy Place, this first room, and then the Ark 00:17:50.73\00:17:54.01 of the Covenant in the Most Holy Place. 00:17:54.04\00:17:57.04 Now remember, as Moses built this, and Israelites built this, 00:17:57.07\00:18:01.43 they were building it according to a blueprint 00:18:01.46\00:18:04.37 that had been shown to them by God Himself. 00:18:04.40\00:18:07.39 The blueprint for this earthly tabernacle was a tabernacle, 00:18:07.42\00:18:11.68 a temple, up in the courts of heaven. 00:18:11.71\00:18:14.28 We studied that yesterday. This whole thing is a copy 00:18:14.31\00:18:18.80 of something that exists in heaven. 00:18:18.83\00:18:21.57 As you study it you also discover that absolutely 00:18:21.60\00:18:24.73 everything here says something very important about who God is 00:18:24.76\00:18:29.44 and who the historical person of Jesus Christ was. 00:18:29.47\00:18:32.99 So, tonight, let's take a tour through the Old Testament 00:18:33.02\00:18:37.69 sanctuary, looking at its various components to see 00:18:37.72\00:18:40.93 what it is that we can learn about the character of God 00:18:40.96\00:18:45.95 and the historical person of Jesus Christ. 00:18:45.98\00:18:49.58 The first thing you encounter out in the courtyard 00:18:49.61\00:18:52.08 of the tabernacle. This is a fence they set up 00:18:52.11\00:18:55.45 and they built the tabernacle inside that fence. 00:18:55.48\00:18:58.01 That whole area is the courtyard, 00:18:58.04\00:19:00.07 and on a daily basis sinner would take little animals, 00:19:00.10\00:19:03.24 notably lambs, they would bring them 00:19:03.27\00:19:06.10 into the courtyard, and a sinner would put his hands on the head 00:19:06.13\00:19:09.94 of a lamb, and the original language tells us 00:19:09.97\00:19:12.49 he not only put his hands on that lamb, he leaned on it 00:19:12.52\00:19:15.69 with all his weight and as he did, he confessed his sins. 00:19:15.72\00:19:20.61 Then the sinner had to take a knife 00:19:20.64\00:19:24.26 and cut the throat of that little lamb and put it to death. 00:19:24.29\00:19:27.98 Why? Because the Bible tells us 00:19:28.01\00:19:30.04 that the wages of sin is death. Why is it death? 00:19:30.07\00:19:34.70 Well, God is the creator, He made all life and He keeps 00:19:34.73\00:19:37.93 all life alive. In rebellion we cut ourselves 00:19:37.96\00:19:40.97 off from God, and the natural consequences of cutting yourself 00:19:41.00\00:19:44.18 off from God is death. It's like unplugging a fan. 00:19:44.21\00:19:48.51 When you unplug the fan and remove it from the source 00:19:48.54\00:19:50.76 of life, it will go out, be gone. 00:19:50.79\00:19:55.08 Romans 6:23 says "The wages of sin is death", 00:19:55.11\00:19:57.83 the Israelites had to take the life of those little lambs. 00:19:57.86\00:20:00.95 Here's an important question: did that little lamb 00:20:00.98\00:20:04.50 actually forgive the sinner, yes or no? 00:20:04.53\00:20:07.12 Absolutely not, a lamb can't do that for you, 00:20:07.15\00:20:09.96 that lamb represents something, that lamb points to something, 00:20:09.99\00:20:13.15 what does it represent? Don't say it yet, 00:20:13.18\00:20:17.04 I know you know the answer. What does the lamb represent? 00:20:17.07\00:20:21.72 There's a remarkable story in the Old Testament about Abraham, 00:20:21.75\00:20:24.75 maybe you remember. God comes to Abraham 00:20:24.78\00:20:27.97 and He says: "Abraham, I want you to take your son" 00:20:28.00\00:20:32.82 "and head for the mountains of 00:20:32.85\00:20:35.85 Moriah and sacrifice Him there. " 00:20:35.88\00:20:37.84 Abraham doesn't get it, he thinks: "What in the world?" 00:20:37.88\00:20:40.31 "Why would God ask me to do that", and yet, the Bible says 00:20:40.34\00:20:42.96 in faith he takes his son and he heads for the mountains 00:20:42.99\00:20:46.45 of Moriah. In faith he says "even if I slay him," 00:20:46.48\00:20:50.32 "God could raise my son from the dead, I'm going to trust Him" 00:20:50.35\00:20:53.04 "no matter what happens". They head for the mountains 00:20:53.07\00:20:55.71 of Moriah, which incidentally is the very place 00:20:55.74\00:20:58.81 that Jesus, hundreds of years later was actually crucified 00:20:58.84\00:21:02.70 at the mountains of Moriah, that's where Calvary is found. 00:21:02.73\00:21:06.84 As they go to the mountains of Moriah, Isaac is looking around 00:21:07.77\00:21:10.92 thinking "Dad, what are we going to do, we're going to have" 00:21:10.95\00:21:13.73 "a sacrifice, I see everything here: the wood and the fire," 00:21:13.76\00:21:16.83 "but there's something notably missing. " 00:21:16.86\00:21:19.43 Genesis 22: 00:21:19.46\00:21:21.60 Abraham's answer is that God will provide the lamb. 00:21:36.70\00:21:40.43 Now, here's something really interesting: this passage 00:21:40.46\00:21:44.34 is the first time a lamb is mentioned anywhere in the Bible. 00:21:44.37\00:21:47.67 You have to go through 22 chapters of the Bible 00:21:47.70\00:21:49.86 before you find any mention of a lamb at all. 00:21:49.89\00:21:52.49 This is the first mention of a lamb. 00:21:52.52\00:21:54.50 Now, a good rule of Bible study is that any time 00:21:54.53\00:21:57.83 the Bible mentions something for the first time, 00:21:57.86\00:22:00.74 it sets the stage for your understanding of it 00:22:00.77\00:22:02.99 for the rest of the Bible. This is the first time 00:22:03.02\00:22:05.72 a lamb is mentioned anywhere in the Bible, and the question 00:22:05.75\00:22:09.02 is asked: "Where is the lamb? God will provide. " 00:22:09.05\00:22:12.25 Now, this is the first time a lamb is mentioned 00:22:12.28\00:22:14.70 in the Old Testament, there's a first time a lamb 00:22:14.73\00:22:17.35 is mentioned in the New Testament and that also tends 00:22:17.38\00:22:19.77 to be very important. In fact, the first time a lamb 00:22:19.80\00:22:22.56 is mentioned in the New Testament, it answers 00:22:22.59\00:22:25.07 Isaac's question: "where is the lamb?" 00:22:25.10\00:22:27.92 It happens as John the Baptist in John 1 sees Jesus coming, 00:22:27.95\00:22:33.21 and he cries out, the Bible says in John 1:29: 00:22:33.24\00:22:36.40 There is no question whatsoever that the lamb in the sanctuary 00:22:45.46\00:22:49.89 service represents Jesus Christ, He is the Lamb of God 00:22:49.92\00:22:54.86 and He takes the sinner's place. 00:22:54.89\00:22:56.92 Your sin is put on Jesus, and that's why Jesus 00:22:56.95\00:23:02.33 appears as a lamb in the book of Revelation. 00:23:02.36\00:23:05.55 Revelation 5:6: 00:23:05.58\00:23:07.64 Here's a scene in heaven, it's God's throne 00:23:16.21\00:23:19.27 and there's a slain lamb in front of it. 00:23:19.30\00:23:21.35 This points back to the sanctuary, you have the Ark 00:23:21.38\00:23:23.50 of the Covenant hiding inside the Tabernacle, 00:23:23.53\00:23:26.22 symbolizing God's throne, and out in the courtyard a lamb 00:23:26.25\00:23:29.87 is sacrificed and it represents Jesus Christ. 00:23:29.90\00:23:33.74 Thousands of years before Jesus is born, the ancients knew 00:23:33.77\00:23:38.14 that a lamb of God would come and die for their sins. 00:23:38.17\00:23:42.16 Thousands of years in advance we had an accurate picture 00:23:42.19\00:23:44.86 of who Jesus would be, and modern critics can say 00:23:44.89\00:23:48.26 all they want that Jesus didn't really die and rise from 00:23:48.29\00:23:51.68 the dead, but the ancients knew it 1000 years before 00:23:51.71\00:23:54.80 it ever happened, God showed them in the lamb 00:23:54.83\00:23:57.90 of the sanctuary. In fact, the Bible calls Jesus 00:23:57.93\00:24:02.65 in Revelation 13:8: 00:24:02.68\00:24:07.11 What does that mean? That tells us that God 00:24:11.48\00:24:14.18 was ready for our sins the very moment He created us. 00:24:14.21\00:24:18.52 Think about this: God made you with the choice 00:24:18.55\00:24:22.63 to turn against Him, why? Why would God make you 00:24:22.66\00:24:26.05 with the choice to turn against Him? 00:24:26.08\00:24:28.04 It's because He wanted a relationship with 00:24:28.07\00:24:29.79 the human race, He wanted us to love Him in return 00:24:29.82\00:24:32.64 for Him loving us, and He wanted us to do that 00:24:32.67\00:24:35.07 of our own free will. You can't love somebody 00:24:35.10\00:24:38.55 unless you have the choice not to love them, right? 00:24:38.58\00:24:42.08 I have, I hope... we've been married about... I forgot, 00:24:42.24\00:24:49.06 About 13 years, 00:24:49.09\00:24:52.48 and I come home at the end of the night 00:24:52.51\00:24:55.16 and I get home and I'm excited because at the end of the day 00:24:55.19\00:24:58.64 my wife is still there, and do you know what makes it exciting? 00:24:58.67\00:25:02.16 She's there of her own free will. 00:25:02.19\00:25:05.38 I didn't have to chain her to the wall to keep her there, 00:25:05.41\00:25:08.20 I don't have to chain her to the stove, or the vacuum cleaner, 00:25:08.23\00:25:10.56 or the washing machine, she stays there and does all those 00:25:10.59\00:25:13.48 things for me out of her own free will. 00:25:13.51\00:25:15.50 What does that tell me? She must love me because there's 00:25:15.53\00:25:18.02 no other reason she would ever stay, right? 00:25:18.05\00:25:20.70 God gave us the freedom of choice, otherwise we couldn't 00:25:20.73\00:25:23.70 love Him of our own free will, and we made a provision, 00:25:23.73\00:25:26.92 should we rebel, Jesus and the Father come together 00:25:26.95\00:25:29.63 and say: "We're going to provide a solution even before" 00:25:29.66\00:25:31.93 "that happens". Jesus is called the lamb slain 00:25:31.96\00:25:35.17 from the foundation of the world, already before creation 00:25:35.20\00:25:38.75 Dan Brown was wrong. 00:25:38.78\00:25:40.97 Amen? Amen. 00:25:41.00\00:25:43.23 God made us with a choice, He was ready in case we sin, 00:25:43.26\00:25:45.84 Dan Brown says Jesus was some ancient mystic who spent 00:25:45.87\00:25:48.84 all His time philosophizing and teaching nice lessons, 00:25:48.87\00:25:52.02 but the most ancient documents tell us in advance 00:25:52.05\00:25:54.73 that Jesus came to die for our sins, you can't argue 00:25:54.76\00:25:59.12 with something that predicted it in advance. 00:25:59.15\00:26:02.32 Now, let's move through the sanctuary. 00:26:02.35\00:26:05.00 The little lamb was sacrificed, and then the lamb 00:26:05.03\00:26:07.12 was taken to the altar of sacrifice where it was offered. 00:26:07.15\00:26:11.50 Now, why was the little lamb giving its life? 00:26:11.53\00:26:15.00 It's because it was reminder of just how serious 00:26:15.03\00:26:17.98 our sins are. When you saw that little lamb 00:26:18.01\00:26:20.64 die and being offered in the flames of the altar 00:26:20.67\00:26:23.53 you couldn't say to yourself: "Oh, sin's not that bad. " 00:26:23.56\00:26:27.00 You couldn't make excuses for yourself, every little sin 00:26:27.21\00:26:30.16 led to death, you saw first hand just how serious sin was. 00:26:30.19\00:26:34.78 You couldn't say: "Oh, all I did was take one little stapler" 00:26:34.81\00:26:37.93 "from the office", or "all I did was steal a few paper clips" 00:26:37.96\00:26:41.36 "from my pencil tray at work. " You couldn't say it wasn't 00:26:41.39\00:26:45.70 serious because every sin led to death, the wages of sin 00:26:45.73\00:26:49.15 is death. The altar of burnt offering 00:26:49.18\00:26:51.54 points to somebody, and you know who it is. 00:26:51.57\00:26:54.17 The book of Hebrews tells us in Hebrews 9:26: 00:26:54.20\00:26:58.51 And when did Jesus sacrifice Himself? 00:27:06.24\00:27:09.21 It was on the cross of Calvary. The cross was more than just 00:27:09.24\00:27:12.80 an instrument of torture, the cross was the altar 00:27:12.83\00:27:17.17 for heaven's sanctuary. That's why the altar 00:27:17.20\00:27:20.64 in the old sanctuary was outside the temple. 00:27:20.67\00:27:23.11 It was outside the sanctuary itself because the cross 00:27:23.14\00:27:27.05 was not in heaven, it was down here on earth. 00:27:27.08\00:27:29.92 It happened down here on the earth, we are living 00:27:29.95\00:27:32.63 in the courtyard of heaven's sanctuary, and Jesus, 00:27:32.66\00:27:35.53 on the cross, becomes the lamb on the altar. 00:27:35.56\00:27:38.79 Now, as we move along, next to the altar is a big 00:27:38.82\00:27:42.98 water basin known as the laver. This is a place 00:27:43.01\00:27:48.12 where the priests had to wash themselves before they could go 00:27:48.15\00:27:50.81 inside the sanctuary, and why did they have to wash 00:27:50.84\00:27:53.85 themselves before they went inside the sanctuary? 00:27:53.88\00:27:56.39 Because just like you and I, they were sinners. 00:27:56.42\00:28:00.50 The Bible tells us about this in 1 Corinthians 6:9. 00:28:00.53\00:28:04.35 The priests had to wash themselves before they could go 00:28:04.38\00:28:06.24 in the sanctuary because you and I need to be washed 00:28:06.27\00:28:09.22 before we can go to heaven. 1 Corinthians 6:9: 00:28:09.25\00:28:12.63 As we are, we can't step into the presence of God, 00:28:19.12\00:28:23.26 so Jesus does something for us, you find in this very same 00:28:23.29\00:28:26.80 passage a little later on. Paul writes: 00:28:26.83\00:28:30.59 Jesus not only dies for you, He also washes you. 00:28:37.18\00:28:41.45 He not only pays the penalty for your sins, 00:28:41.48\00:28:43.90 He cleans you up and gives you a new life and send you 00:28:43.93\00:28:47.40 on your way to heaven as clean as a whistle. 00:28:47.43\00:28:51.57 That's the laver, let's take a look at who was washing 00:28:51.60\00:28:54.78 himself in the laver: it's the priest, 00:28:54.81\00:28:58.20 and the priest, before he could go inside, had to wash himself 00:28:58.23\00:29:01.24 in the laver and then he went inside the tabernacle 00:29:01.27\00:29:04.28 carrying the blood of the sacrifice. 00:29:04.31\00:29:06.97 Who is the priest a symbol of, who is it? 00:29:07.00\00:29:10.96 Jesus. 00:29:10.99\00:29:12.40 You're right, so you can say it more boldly. 00:29:12.43\00:29:14.70 Jesus. It's Jesus. 00:29:14.73\00:29:17.01 This is easy, the Bible tells us exactly who the priest 00:29:17.04\00:29:19.47 symbolizes, and the high priest in particular. 00:29:19.50\00:29:21.93 Hebrews 4: 00:29:21.96\00:29:24.06 Jesus is not only the sacrifice, He's the priest 00:29:47.74\00:29:51.00 who carries the blood into the sanctuary, but Jesus carries 00:29:51.03\00:29:54.79 His own blood into heaven's sanctuary, and presents it 00:29:54.82\00:29:58.52 before the throne of God. 00:29:58.55\00:30:00.98 The Bible says as He goes there He invites you to come in 00:30:01.01\00:30:03.09 with Him, you, because you have been cleaned by His sacrifice 00:30:03.12\00:30:06.31 and washed, are invited to go through the drapes, 00:30:06.34\00:30:09.24 into the temple, right into the presence of God, 00:30:09.27\00:30:12.45 and furthermore, it says that He understands your life, 00:30:12.48\00:30:15.90 and He's the only one that can really help you. 00:30:15.93\00:30:18.73 If you struggle with loneliness, Jesus understands that; 00:30:18.76\00:30:22.27 if you struggle with abuse, He was abused; 00:30:22.30\00:30:24.68 if you struggle with pain, He suffered pain; 00:30:24.71\00:30:26.89 if you struggle with temptation, Jesus even underwent temptation, 00:30:26.92\00:30:30.36 and He did it all without sin, and now in heaven's sanctuary 00:30:30.39\00:30:33.84 He says to you: "come on, come to the throne of grace" 00:30:33.87\00:30:36.82 "and I'll help you. I'll get you the help you need. " 00:30:36.85\00:30:40.42 What help is that? The Bible tells us in 1 John 2:1 00:30:40.45\00:30:45.02 "Propitiation" - there's a big word, do you know 00:30:52.78\00:30:56.28 what that word is in the original language? 00:30:56.31\00:30:58.67 "Hilasterion", it's the very same word that we translate 00:30:58.70\00:31:03.62 "mercy seat". Jesus said: "I am not only" 00:31:03.65\00:31:07.47 "the priest, I am not only the 00:31:07.50\00:31:10.40 sacrifice, I am the mercy seat. " 00:31:10.44\00:31:12.30 "I am the one that covers the law of God that you have broken" 00:31:12.34\00:31:15.91 "and My sacrifice pays for your sin. " 00:31:15.94\00:31:19.66 Here's a good question a lot of people ask: 00:31:20.55\00:31:22.69 if Jesus has to go in and talk to God about your sins 00:31:22.72\00:31:26.27 and present His blood, does that mean that God is trying 00:31:26.30\00:31:29.52 to destroy everybody, God the Father, and God the Son 00:31:29.55\00:31:32.51 runs in there and run interference so God doesn't 00:31:32.54\00:31:35.26 wipe out the whole human race? Is this a struggle between 00:31:35.29\00:31:38.41 God the Father, and God the Son: God the Father trying 00:31:38.44\00:31:41.20 to destroy, Jesus Christ trying to save us, is that 00:31:41.23\00:31:43.58 what the Bible is saying? Absolutely not. Good students. 00:31:43.61\00:31:47.73 This is one of the most misunderstood concepts 00:31:47.76\00:31:49.55 in the entire Bible, and the best known verse in the Bible 00:31:49.58\00:31:52.40 answer the question, it says: 00:31:52.43\00:31:56.13 God the Father and God the Son made plan before you 00:31:59.98\00:32:03.57 were created, that should you sin, Jesus would give His life 00:32:03.60\00:32:07.29 for you. Now, let's go inside 00:32:07.32\00:32:09.70 the earthly sanctuary, we're going to have to move quickly, 00:32:09.73\00:32:12.47 but I want to show this to you, I don't want to miss 00:32:12.50\00:32:14.04 any of it. As you went inside the sanctuary 00:32:14.07\00:32:16.33 to your left was a golden lamp stand with 7 branches, 00:32:16.36\00:32:19.82 and 7 oil lamps on top. It is the only source of light 00:32:19.85\00:32:23.36 inside that sanctuary. What does it represent? 00:32:23.39\00:32:27.61 This is easy. The rule of bible interpretation 00:32:27.64\00:32:30.87 is to let the Bible interpret itself, and Jesus says something 00:32:30.90\00:32:34.31 very interesting in John 8:12: 00:32:34.34\00:32:37.51 Jesus, the light of the world, John says earlier that Jesus 00:32:48.66\00:32:51.34 was the light that came into the world. 00:32:51.37\00:32:53.60 We had lived in sin and ignorance and darkness so long 00:32:53.63\00:32:56.60 that when Jesus came, God in the flesh, it was like a breath 00:32:56.63\00:33:00.08 of fresh air, and we could actually see clearly 00:33:00.11\00:33:02.83 for the first time in a long time, Jesus: the lamp stand 00:33:02.86\00:33:07.79 inside the sanctuary. Now, that was on your left 00:33:07.82\00:33:11.54 as you walked into the sanctuary. 00:33:11.57\00:33:13.32 On your right was a table of bread, known as the table 00:33:13.35\00:33:17.32 of show bread, or in some places in the Bible, 00:33:17.35\00:33:20.57 the table of the presence, what does this table represent? 00:33:20.60\00:33:25.75 It had 12 loaves of bread, one for each of the tribes 00:33:25.78\00:33:28.96 of Israel, what does it represent? 00:33:28.99\00:33:30.87 Well, we don't have to guess because Jesus tells us 00:33:30.90\00:33:33.11 point blank what it represents. John 6:51, Jesus said: 00:33:33.14\00:33:36.76 Jesus said "I'm the bread". Do you see what He's saying? 00:33:45.50\00:33:48.27 Bread is an essential substance, almost every culture 00:33:48.30\00:33:51.77 on the face of this planet has bread of some sort, 00:33:51.80\00:33:54.34 whether it's tortillas, or pita, or sourdough bread, 00:33:54.37\00:33:57.79 almost every culture has bread. 00:33:57.82\00:34:00.16 Jesus says: "I am not a garnish on the plate of spirituality," 00:34:00.19\00:34:05.14 "I am the substance of your meal. " 00:34:05.17\00:34:07.71 Bread is so essential, it's become a big part 00:34:07.74\00:34:09.90 of our English language. 00:34:09.93\00:34:11.52 The word "companion", it comes from Latin words 00:34:11.55\00:34:14.18 "con" and "panis", it means "those who share bread together" 00:34:14.21\00:34:17.63 We call somebody who earns the money in the house: 00:34:18.13\00:34:20.36 "the bread winner", and even back in the last century, 00:34:20.39\00:34:24.27 slang for money, we called it "bread". 00:34:24.30\00:34:27.36 It's so essential, this is something you can't 00:34:27.39\00:34:29.69 live without. Jesus is telling people: 00:34:29.72\00:34:31.82 "I am not a side plate, I am not a side order," 00:34:31.85\00:34:35.86 "I am the essence of the meal, you can't live without Me," 00:34:35.89\00:34:38.96 "nobody gets into the kingdom of heaven without Me," 00:34:38.99\00:34:41.32 "you can't survive on your own. You need Me. " 00:34:41.35\00:34:45.25 "I am the bread of life, you eat this and you will live for ever. 00:34:45.28\00:34:49.92 It all points to Jesus: the sacrifice, the priest, 00:34:49.95\00:34:53.48 that altar, the laver, the lamp stand, the table 00:34:53.51\00:34:56.35 of the show bread, and then up against the drape, 00:34:56.38\00:34:59.51 at the back of the first compartment, 00:34:59.54\00:35:01.62 on the left the lamp, on the right the bread, 00:35:01.65\00:35:04.00 and at the back of the room against the drape that hides 00:35:04.03\00:35:06.42 the Ark of the Covenant is the altar of incense. 00:35:06.45\00:35:09.76 What does it represent? 00:35:09.79\00:35:11.64 Again, the Bible explains it very clearly, Psalm 141:2: 00:35:11.67\00:35:15.85 You'll notice in the story of Zacharias, in the book of Luke, 00:35:20.30\00:35:22.71 chapter 1, the father to John the Baptist, it was Zacharias' 00:35:22.74\00:35:27.02 job to go inside and burn incense, and the Bible says 00:35:27.05\00:35:30.35 in Luke 1 that as he burned the incense the people 00:35:30.38\00:35:32.96 were outside the temple praying. 00:35:32.99\00:35:35.71 Incense represents prayer. The book of Revelation says 00:35:35.74\00:35:38.65 in Revelation 8:3, this is now in heaven's sanctuary: 00:35:38.68\00:35:44.56 The priest offers a special blend of incense, 00:35:56.40\00:35:59.58 he burns it, the smoke goes up, over the veil, 00:35:59.61\00:36:02.47 into the Most Holy Place to the throne of God. 00:36:02.50\00:36:05.52 It's our prayers. Why? 00:36:05.55\00:36:07.55 Even our prayers are contaminated by sin. 00:36:08.34\00:36:10.66 Do you know what it's like when we pray? 00:36:10.69\00:36:12.98 The first things out of our mouth are 00:36:13.01\00:36:14.18 "Dear Lord, I need this... and I need this... " 00:36:14.21\00:36:16.69 "and this, and this, and that, and when I have all that" 00:36:16.72\00:36:19.67 "I'm still going to need this, this, this and that. " 00:36:19.70\00:36:22.61 Our prayers are contaminated by sin and selfishness, 00:36:22.64\00:36:25.70 but in sincerity as we pray, Jesus, the Bible teaches, 00:36:25.73\00:36:29.00 mixes our prayers with His righteousness. 00:36:29.03\00:36:31.17 He adds sweet smelling incense, so that as our prayers rise 00:36:31.20\00:36:33.81 before the throne of God, He doesn't see a thing 00:36:33.84\00:36:36.87 wrong with them at all. The altar of incense represents 00:36:36.90\00:36:42.04 Jesus mingling His prayers with ours. 00:36:42.07\00:36:44.40 He cares that deeply about you. 00:36:44.43\00:36:47.16 In the Most Holy Place, as you go into the very back 00:36:47.28\00:36:50.42 behind the veil, is the Ark of the Covenant. 00:36:50.45\00:36:53.98 It's here that Jesus presents His shed blood for you. 00:36:54.01\00:36:57.96 In the book of Revelation 1 more time, the Bible says: 00:36:57.99\00:37:00.85 Why not? For all have sinned 00:37:22.85\00:37:25.70 and come short of the glory of God the Bible tells us. 00:37:25.73\00:37:28.23 Nobody could do it. 00:37:28.26\00:37:30.68 Jesus takes you from outside, through the Holy Place, 00:37:47.78\00:37:52.32 into the Most Holy Place and because He gave His life 00:37:52.35\00:37:55.10 for you, because He shed His blood for you, 00:37:55.13\00:37:57.33 you now have the right to step right into the presence of God. 00:37:57.36\00:38:02.48 The cross tells us, the sanctuary tells us, 00:38:02.51\00:38:05.63 we don't have to go it alone. 00:38:05.66\00:38:09.09 The sinless Son of God, His blood covers your sins 00:38:09.12\00:38:14.15 and He moves you back into the presence of God. 00:38:14.18\00:38:18.20 And knowing that, what reason would anybody have 00:38:19.21\00:38:22.83 not to accept His forgiveness? The only reason we have 00:38:22.86\00:38:26.00 is because we just don't believe that it could be true. 00:38:26.03\00:38:28.53 Billy, 5 years old, got a slingshot from grandma 00:38:28.56\00:38:32.22 and grandpa, he was so excited, he went out back 00:38:32.25\00:38:35.02 and started to shoot at stuff. 00:38:35.05\00:38:37.67 And he discovered after a couple of minutes that he wasn't 00:38:37.70\00:38:39.69 a very good shot, he missed everything he shot at. 00:38:39.72\00:38:42.48 He missed the windows, thanks goodness, 00:38:42.51\00:38:44.02 he missed the fence, he missed his sister, he missed 00:38:44.05\00:38:46.54 everything, so he was disgusted and came home with his slingshot 00:38:46.57\00:38:49.81 in his pocket kicking the dirt, and on the way home, 00:38:49.84\00:38:53.42 out of the corner of his eye he sees grandma's prize duck. 00:38:53.45\00:38:57.43 And he thinks to himself: "1 more time. " 00:38:58.21\00:39:01.91 Loads a stone, pulls it back, let's it fly 00:39:01.94\00:39:05.72 and the stone hits the duck and the duck drops dead. 00:39:05.75\00:39:09.09 He's horrified, so he grabs the duck, he runs 00:39:09.12\00:39:11.45 to the wood pile, shoves it in the wood, covers it up 00:39:11.48\00:39:14.01 and thinks "that's it, nobody saw my sin. " 00:39:14.04\00:39:17.06 And he turns around and there's his sister, Sally. 00:39:17.09\00:39:19.33 She saw the whole thing, 00:39:19.36\00:39:23.05 and she didn't say a word, she just went inside quietly. 00:39:23.08\00:39:27.28 Billy followed inside expecting the worst and sat through dinner 00:39:27.31\00:39:30.82 expecting her to tattle, and she didn't. 00:39:30.85\00:39:33.09 At the end of dinner grandma said: "Sally, I would like" 00:39:33.12\00:39:36.10 "very much for you to help me clean up the dishes today. " 00:39:36.13\00:39:39.36 And Sally said: "Grandma, I would love to do that," 00:39:39.39\00:39:42.15 "except 1 little thing, Billy was just telling me" 00:39:42.18\00:39:43.99 "how much he wanted to do the dishes, weren't you Billy?" 00:39:44.02\00:39:47.45 "No!" 00:39:47.48\00:39:50.01 "Yes, remember the duck. " 00:39:50.04\00:39:52.76 Billy: "Yeah, grandma, I think I do want to do the dishes. " 00:39:52.79\00:39:56.15 The next day at dinner again, 00:39:56.18\00:39:58.70 "Sally, now it's your turn to do the dishes. " 00:39:58.73\00:40:00.66 "Uh-uh grandma, I don't want to do the dishes," 00:40:00.69\00:40:03.00 "Billy was telling me he wants to do them from now on," 00:40:03.03\00:40:05.09 - "didn't you Billy?" - "I said no!" 00:40:05.12\00:40:06.57 - "Remember the duck!" 00:40:06.60\00:40:09.53 And this went on day after day, week after week, 00:40:09.56\00:40:12.15 month after month, until little Billy couldn't take it anymore. 00:40:12.18\00:40:15.53 He walked into the kitchen one day and said: 00:40:15.56\00:40:17.20 "Grandma! I got to talk to you. " 00:40:17.23\00:40:21.20 "Grandma a few weeks ago I had my sling shot," 00:40:23.34\00:40:26.49 "I put the rock in the slingshot and I fired it," 00:40:26.52\00:40:28.90 "and it hit your duck, and the duck is dead," 00:40:28.93\00:40:30.88 "I'm so sorry. " 00:40:30.91\00:40:33.84 Grandma bent down, gave him one of those hugs 00:40:34.37\00:40:37.90 only your grandma can give you. She said: "That's okay Billy.
