Let us pray. 00:00:11.51\00:00:14.18 Father in heaven, as we open Your Word, 00:00:14.21\00:00:16.21 we ask for the presence of Your Spirit. 00:00:16.24\00:00:19.25 This is a very complex subject, 70 weeks. 00:00:19.28\00:00:23.85 But I ask that You will make things clear, 00:00:23.89\00:00:27.16 so that we can understand all of the details 00:00:27.19\00:00:29.12 that we are gonna study. 00:00:29.16\00:00:31.13 We claim Your promise of Your presence 00:00:31.16\00:00:33.63 in the precious name of Jesus. 00:00:33.66\00:00:35.93 Amen. 00:00:35.96\00:00:39.77 We have found more material to cover 00:00:39.80\00:00:43.30 than I can actually do 00:00:43.34\00:00:46.74 in the two presentations on the 70 weeks. 00:00:46.78\00:00:50.38 If you would like a full study, 00:00:50.41\00:00:53.55 you can go to our website secretsunsealed.org 00:00:53.58\00:00:58.15 and go to our archives 00:00:58.19\00:01:00.86 and there is a 26 page document 00:01:00.89\00:01:03.89 on Daniel 9. 00:01:03.93\00:01:06.19 And so I would encourage you to go there 00:01:06.23\00:01:08.16 for all of the details. 00:01:08.20\00:01:11.53 Daniel 9 is the greatest messianic prophecy 00:01:11.57\00:01:16.81 of the Old Testament 00:01:16.84\00:01:19.87 for two reasons. 00:01:19.91\00:01:21.88 Number one, 00:01:21.91\00:01:23.85 because it not only predicts the events 00:01:23.88\00:01:28.55 of Messiah's mission on earth, 00:01:28.58\00:01:31.35 but it predicts the specific dates 00:01:31.39\00:01:35.29 for those events. 00:01:35.32\00:01:37.13 You see, there are many prophecies 00:01:37.16\00:01:38.56 in the Old Testament that tell us 00:01:38.59\00:01:40.60 what the Messiah was gonna do. 00:01:40.63\00:01:43.83 But this passage not only tells us 00:01:43.87\00:01:45.70 what He was gonna do, 00:01:45.73\00:01:47.64 but also when He was going to do it. 00:01:47.67\00:01:53.07 Now I wanna review as we began 00:01:53.11\00:01:55.18 the four stages of Israel's history. 00:01:55.21\00:01:58.05 And I'll do this briefly and quickly. 00:01:58.08\00:02:00.62 The first stage is Sinai to Babylon, 00:02:00.65\00:02:03.82 a period of 800 years, 00:02:03.85\00:02:06.45 then Babylon to John 00:02:06.49\00:02:09.19 483 years, 00:02:09.22\00:02:13.53 then the ministry of Christ that last 3.5 years. 00:02:13.56\00:02:17.93 And after Christ's ascension till end of the 70 weeks 00:02:17.97\00:02:22.27 you have 3.5 years. 00:02:22.30\00:02:26.54 Now I want to begin by reading Daniel 1:1,2 00:02:26.57\00:02:31.05 where we find the beginning of the Babylonian captivity. 00:02:31.08\00:02:36.25 Daniel 1: 1, 2, 00:02:36.28\00:02:39.15 and what I want you notice here, 00:02:39.19\00:02:40.86 this is happening in the year 605, 00:02:40.89\00:02:43.89 is that before the city was destroyed, 00:02:43.93\00:02:48.10 the city also lost its governance 00:02:48.13\00:02:52.57 because the nobility were taken to Babylon. 00:02:52.60\00:02:55.87 So it lost its civil power to rule 00:02:55.90\00:02:59.81 before the city was physically destroyed. 00:02:59.84\00:03:03.01 And so it says in Daniel 1:1, 2, 00:03:03.04\00:03:04.95 "In the third year, this is 605 BC, 00:03:04.98\00:03:07.52 of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah 00:03:07.55\00:03:09.78 came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, 00:03:09.82\00:03:12.69 and besieged it. 00:03:12.72\00:03:14.52 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand." 00:03:14.56\00:03:19.46 So now Jerusalem is left without a ruler. 00:03:19.49\00:03:24.93 So governance is removed first. 00:03:24.97\00:03:28.07 So it says, 00:03:28.10\00:03:29.44 "And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, 00:03:29.47\00:03:32.64 with part of the vessels of the house of God, 00:03:32.67\00:03:34.94 which he carried into the land of Shinar 00:03:34.98\00:03:37.18 to the house of his god, 00:03:37.21\00:03:38.55 and he brought the vessels 00:03:38.58\00:03:39.91 into the treasure house of his god." 00:03:39.95\00:03:42.38 And by the way he also took away the nobility. 00:03:42.42\00:03:45.69 Daniel and his friends were of the noble house, 00:03:45.72\00:03:49.06 so that they would be no ruler. 00:03:49.09\00:03:51.23 So before the city is destroyed, 00:03:51.26\00:03:53.03 governance is removed but then, of course, 00:03:53.06\00:03:56.67 the city, the temple and the walls are destroyed 00:03:56.70\00:03:59.67 in the year 586. 00:03:59.70\00:04:01.90 Let's read about 00:04:01.94\00:04:03.27 the destruction of Jerusalem in 2 Chronicles, 00:04:03.30\00:04:05.77 36:15-20, 00:04:05.81\00:04:09.74 "And the Lord God of their fathers 00:04:09.78\00:04:11.11 sent warnings to them 00:04:11.15\00:04:12.48 by His messengers, 00:04:12.51\00:04:13.85 rising up early and sending them, 00:04:13.88\00:04:15.85 because He had compassion on His people 00:04:15.88\00:04:18.85 and on His dwelling place. 00:04:18.89\00:04:20.99 But they mocked the messengers of God, 00:04:21.02\00:04:23.39 despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, 00:04:23.43\00:04:28.13 until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, 00:04:28.16\00:04:31.30 until there was no remedy. 00:04:31.33\00:04:35.00 Therefore He brought against them 00:04:35.04\00:04:36.40 the king of the Chaldeans, 00:04:36.44\00:04:37.77 who killed their young men with the sword 00:04:37.81\00:04:39.87 in the house of their sanctuary, 00:04:39.91\00:04:41.28 had no compassion on young man 00:04:41.31\00:04:43.38 or virgin, on the aged or the weak, 00:04:43.41\00:04:46.88 He gave them all into his hand. 00:04:46.92\00:04:49.02 And all the articles from the house of God, 00:04:49.05\00:04:51.52 great and small, 00:04:51.55\00:04:52.89 the treasures of the house of the Lord, 00:04:52.92\00:04:54.46 and the treasures of the king and of his leaders, 00:04:54.49\00:04:56.86 all these he took to Babylon. 00:04:56.89\00:04:59.23 Then they burned the house of God, 00:04:59.26\00:05:01.26 broke down the wall of Jerusalem, 00:05:01.30\00:05:03.53 and burned all its palaces with fire, 00:05:03.57\00:05:06.07 and destroyed all its precious possessions. 00:05:06.10\00:05:08.97 And those who escaped from the sword 00:05:09.00\00:05:10.64 he carried away to Babylon, 00:05:10.67\00:05:12.61 where they became servants to him and his sons 00:05:12.64\00:05:16.04 until the rule of the kingdom of Persia, 00:05:16.08\00:05:19.18 to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, 00:05:19.21\00:05:22.68 until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths. 00:05:22.72\00:05:25.15 As long as she lay desolate she kept Sabbath, 00:05:25.19\00:05:29.22 to fulfill seventy years." 00:05:29.26\00:05:32.89 So two points I want us to notice. 00:05:32.93\00:05:34.60 Number one, the city loses its governance 00:05:34.63\00:05:39.20 before the city is physically destroyed. 00:05:39.23\00:05:43.10 And so if Israel's gonna be restored, 00:05:43.14\00:05:46.57 governance has to be restored 00:05:46.61\00:05:49.51 and the city has to be rebuild. 00:05:49.54\00:05:52.98 Now, Daniel just two years 00:05:53.01\00:05:56.82 before the 70 year captivity ended 00:05:56.85\00:06:00.59 fears that perhaps the sinfulness 00:06:00.62\00:06:02.82 of Israel is so great 00:06:02.86\00:06:05.49 that God is going to extent the period of 70 years. 00:06:05.53\00:06:09.70 So in Daniel 9:1, 2, we find Daniel studying 00:06:09.73\00:06:14.34 the prophecy of the 70 years that Jeremiah wrote about. 00:06:14.37\00:06:18.41 It says in Daniel 9:1, 2, "In the first year of Darius 00:06:18.44\00:06:22.24 the son of Ahasuerus, of the lineage of the Medes, 00:06:22.28\00:06:25.81 who was made king 00:06:25.85\00:06:27.18 over the realm of the Chaldeans. 00:06:27.22\00:06:28.92 In the first year of his reign 00:06:28.95\00:06:31.69 I, Daniel, understood by the books 00:06:31.72\00:06:35.49 the number of the years specified 00:06:35.52\00:06:37.46 by the word of the Lord 00:06:37.49\00:06:38.83 through Jeremiah the prophet, 00:06:38.86\00:06:40.86 that He would accomplish seventy years 00:06:40.90\00:06:42.73 in the desolations of Jerusalem." 00:06:42.76\00:06:44.37 So Daniel is saying, it's 938, 00:06:44.40\00:06:47.44 I know that we were taken captive in 605, 00:06:47.47\00:06:50.17 so the captivity should end in the year 536, 00:06:50.21\00:06:53.34 two years from now. 00:06:53.38\00:06:54.94 But then Daniel starts thinking he says, "Now wait a minute, 00:06:54.98\00:06:57.85 may be the sinfulness of Israel was so great 00:06:57.88\00:07:00.52 that God is not gonna fulfill His promise 00:07:00.55\00:07:02.72 and it's gonna be a longer period of captivity." 00:07:02.75\00:07:05.12 And so Daniel now raises a prayer to God, 00:07:05.15\00:07:09.02 and he confesses the sinfulness of Israel. 00:07:09.06\00:07:12.69 And he begs the Lord not to delay 00:07:12.73\00:07:15.46 in fulfilling His promise of letting his people go 00:07:15.50\00:07:18.93 after 70 years. 00:07:18.97\00:07:20.64 I only wanna read the last part of Daniel's prayer, 00:07:20.67\00:07:24.87 it goes all way from verse 3-19, 00:07:24.91\00:07:28.81 but I wanna read only verses 18 and 19. 00:07:28.84\00:07:32.28 "O my God, incline your ear and hear, 00:07:32.31\00:07:37.29 open your eyes and see our desolations, 00:07:37.32\00:07:40.59 and the city which is called by Your name, 00:07:40.62\00:07:43.73 for we do not present our supplications before You 00:07:43.76\00:07:47.16 because of our righteous deeds, 00:07:47.20\00:07:49.63 but because of Your great mercies. 00:07:49.66\00:07:52.27 O Lord, hear! 00:07:52.30\00:07:54.80 O Lord, forgive! 00:07:54.84\00:07:57.31 O Lord, listen and act!" 00:07:57.34\00:08:00.14 And then notice. 00:08:00.18\00:08:01.64 "Do not," what? 00:08:01.68\00:08:04.18 "Do not delay for Your own sake, 00:08:04.21\00:08:07.48 my God, for Your city 00:08:07.52\00:08:09.42 and Your people are called by Your name." 00:08:09.45\00:08:12.39 Don't delay to fulfill that after 70 years 00:08:12.42\00:08:16.36 You're gonna let Your people go. 00:08:16.39\00:08:19.53 So then 00:08:19.56\00:08:21.93 Gabriel comes to Daniel 00:08:21.96\00:08:26.77 and he tells Daniel, 00:08:26.80\00:08:28.14 "Daniel, the 70 years will end 00:08:28.17\00:08:32.54 and your people will return to the land 00:08:32.57\00:08:36.28 and God is going to give them 00:08:36.31\00:08:39.65 a 70 week probation." 00:08:39.68\00:08:43.69 Notice Daniel 9:24, what it says about 00:08:43.72\00:08:48.36 this period of 70 weeks. 00:08:48.39\00:08:53.46 Seventy weeks are determined for your people 00:08:53.50\00:08:57.37 and for your holy city, and then six things 00:08:57.40\00:09:00.57 are gonna happen 00:09:00.60\00:09:01.94 during the period of the 70 weeks 00:09:01.97\00:09:03.44 particularly at the end, 00:09:03.47\00:09:05.41 during the last week, to finish the transgression, 00:09:05.44\00:09:08.94 to make an end of sins, 00:09:08.98\00:09:10.85 to make reconciliation for iniquity, 00:09:10.88\00:09:13.18 to bring in everlasting righteousness, 00:09:13.21\00:09:15.55 to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy. 00:09:15.58\00:09:21.36 So Gabriel tells him, "Daniel, God will fulfill His promise, 00:09:21.39\00:09:26.19 your people will return to their land, 00:09:26.23\00:09:28.56 will return to their city, 00:09:28.60\00:09:30.27 governance will be reestablished, 00:09:30.30\00:09:32.43 the city and the walls will be rebuild, 00:09:32.47\00:09:35.00 the sanctuary, the religious system will begin 00:09:35.04\00:09:37.77 to function again, 00:09:37.81\00:09:39.84 and 70 weeks are given 00:09:39.87\00:09:41.91 as a grace period for your nation. 00:09:41.94\00:09:45.85 Now, of course, the big question is 00:09:45.88\00:09:47.32 when do the 70 weeks begin? 00:09:47.35\00:09:50.89 Well, in Daniel 9:25, 00:09:50.92\00:09:55.09 we have the secret of 00:09:55.12\00:09:57.96 when the 70 weeks we're going to begin. 00:09:57.99\00:10:01.63 It says there in Daniel 9:25, 00:10:01.66\00:10:03.60 "Know therefore and understand 00:10:03.63\00:10:06.57 that from the going forth of the command 00:10:06.60\00:10:10.27 to restore and build Jerusalem." 00:10:10.31\00:10:12.17 By the way those two words, 00:10:12.21\00:10:13.61 I don't have the time to get into it, 00:10:13.64\00:10:15.21 but restore is not the same as build. 00:10:15.24\00:10:18.91 Restore means to establish governance again 00:10:18.95\00:10:21.92 and the religious system. 00:10:21.95\00:10:24.05 Build means to build the physical city. 00:10:24.09\00:10:27.12 See both things were removed, 00:10:27.16\00:10:29.16 both things need to be restored. 00:10:29.19\00:10:31.29 So it says, "Know therefore and understand 00:10:31.33\00:10:33.76 that from the going forth of the command 00:10:33.80\00:10:36.63 to restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah," 00:10:36.67\00:10:40.34 which means the anointed one, "The prince, 00:10:40.37\00:10:42.74 there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks." 00:10:42.77\00:10:45.81 In other words there's gonna be 69 weeks 00:10:45.84\00:10:48.11 between the decree and the appearance 00:10:48.14\00:10:50.71 of the anointed one or the Messiah. 00:10:50.75\00:10:54.52 Now once again I want to underline 00:10:54.55\00:10:56.89 that there are two things that need to be reestablished, 00:10:56.92\00:11:00.52 governance, and the physical city. 00:11:00.56\00:11:04.59 Now there are four possible dates 00:11:04.63\00:11:06.76 for the beginning of the command to restore 00:11:06.80\00:11:11.23 and build Jerusalem. 00:11:11.27\00:11:13.13 One of them was given by Cyrus in the year 536, 00:11:13.17\00:11:17.07 the year when they were released from captivity. 00:11:17.11\00:11:20.38 That cannot be the decree to restore and build Jerusalem, 00:11:20.41\00:11:24.25 because the decree of Cyrus only gave them permission 00:11:24.28\00:11:27.08 to rebuild the temple. 00:11:27.12\00:11:29.18 You can find that in the Book of Ezra. 00:11:29.22\00:11:33.05 Then in the year 520, 16 years later, 00:11:33.09\00:11:36.42 Darius the Persian gave a decree, 00:11:36.46\00:11:40.00 restoring the decree that was given in 536, 00:11:40.03\00:11:43.23 because it had been suspended. 00:11:43.26\00:11:45.03 Once again the decree by Darius the Persian 00:11:45.07\00:11:49.24 was only to rebuild the temple, 00:11:49.27\00:11:51.41 that was in the year 520. 00:11:51.44\00:11:53.84 Then you have a decree 00:11:53.88\00:11:55.21 by Artaxerxes in 457 BC, 00:11:55.24\00:11:59.81 that is the decree 00:11:59.85\00:12:02.75 that restores and builds Jerusalem. 00:12:02.78\00:12:07.26 By the way, there was one more decree 00:12:07.29\00:12:09.69 by Artaxerxes in the year 444 BC, 00:12:09.72\00:12:13.43 that one won't work either 00:12:13.46\00:12:15.33 because that was only permission to go 00:12:15.36\00:12:17.27 and rebuild the wall. 00:12:17.30\00:12:19.53 So there's only one decree that fits. 00:12:19.57\00:12:22.67 The first two had to do 00:12:22.70\00:12:24.04 with the building of the temple, 00:12:24.07\00:12:25.41 the last one had to do with building of the walls. 00:12:25.44\00:12:27.78 There's only one in Ezra 7 that fulfills the command 00:12:27.81\00:12:32.11 to restore and to build Jerusalem. 00:12:32.15\00:12:36.18 Ezra 7:13 refers to that decree, 00:12:36.22\00:12:41.36 here king Artaxerxes states, 00:12:41.39\00:12:44.89 "I issue a decree 00:12:44.93\00:12:47.50 that all those of the people of Israel 00:12:47.53\00:12:50.67 and the priests and the Levities in my realm, 00:12:50.70\00:12:54.94 who volunteer to go up to Jerusalem, 00:12:54.97\00:12:57.71 may go with you." 00:12:57.74\00:12:59.54 And then it speaks about the rebuilding of the temple 00:12:59.57\00:13:03.98 and the city and restoring their civil order, 00:13:04.01\00:13:07.78 you can read in the following verses. 00:13:07.82\00:13:09.88 Now the question is, 00:13:09.92\00:13:11.25 when did Artaxerxes gave this decree 00:13:11.29\00:13:15.62 to restore and build Jerusalem? 00:13:15.66\00:13:18.73 To restore that civil and religious order 00:13:18.76\00:13:21.16 and to rebuild the city and the walls. 00:13:21.20\00:13:25.43 Ezra 7:7 gives us the date. 00:13:25.47\00:13:29.57 it says, "Some of the children of Israel, 00:13:29.60\00:13:31.71 the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, 00:13:31.74\00:13:34.64 and the Nethinim came up to Jerusalem 00:13:34.68\00:13:38.51 in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes." 00:13:38.55\00:13:43.49 So we know, when the decree is given, 00:13:43.52\00:13:45.85 it is given the seventh year of Artaxerxes. 00:13:45.89\00:13:48.49 And you ask the question, 00:13:48.52\00:13:49.89 what was the seventh year of King Artaxerxes? 00:13:49.92\00:13:53.33 Well, two great scholars 00:13:53.36\00:13:58.20 several years ago 00:13:58.23\00:13:59.57 wrote a book called "The Chronology of Ezra 7," 00:13:59.60\00:14:03.14 their names Siegfried Horn, 00:14:03.17\00:14:05.94 who was is the dean 00:14:05.97\00:14:07.48 of Seventh-day Adventist Archaeologist. 00:14:07.51\00:14:08.91 He passed away a few years ago. 00:14:08.94\00:14:10.75 And Kenneth Wood who was editor of the Review 00:14:10.78\00:14:13.92 and Herald for quite a long period of time. 00:14:13.95\00:14:17.19 They showed in their book by examining archeology, 00:14:17.22\00:14:22.22 history, and astronomy that there's no doubt 00:14:22.26\00:14:25.96 that the decree of Artaxerxes was given 00:14:25.99\00:14:28.73 in the fall of the year 457 BC. 00:14:28.76\00:14:34.14 So in other words, 00:14:34.17\00:14:35.50 the 70 weeks began in 457 BC, 00:14:35.54\00:14:41.14 we know what the starting date is. 00:14:41.18\00:14:44.91 Now we need to understand 00:14:44.95\00:14:46.58 that the 70 weeks are not weeks of days, 00:14:46.61\00:14:49.95 they are weeks of years. 00:14:49.98\00:14:52.62 In prophecy days are equivalent to years. 00:14:52.65\00:14:57.13 So 70 weeks times 7 days, 00:14:57.16\00:14:59.76 each week comes out to 490 years. 00:14:59.79\00:15:04.60 In other words, from 457 BC forward, 00:15:04.63\00:15:09.00 the 70 weeks were going to last 490 years. 00:15:09.04\00:15:14.74 Are we on the same page? 00:15:14.78\00:15:17.05 Now, the 70 weeks 00:15:17.08\00:15:19.91 are divided into three segments. 00:15:19.95\00:15:23.89 They're divided into 7 weeks, 00:15:23.92\00:15:28.49 after the 7 weeks, 62 weeks, 00:15:28.52\00:15:32.83 and then the final week. 00:15:32.86\00:15:36.06 Let's read Daniel 9:25, and then we'll go to verse 27. 00:15:36.10\00:15:40.90 It says, "Know therefore and understand, 00:15:40.94\00:15:43.34 that from the going forth of the command to restore 00:15:43.37\00:15:46.24 and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, 00:15:46.27\00:15:50.25 there shall be," what? 00:15:50.28\00:15:53.92 "Seven weeks," 00:15:53.95\00:15:56.89 that's the first segment and then what? 00:15:56.92\00:15:59.82 "And sixty-two weeks." 00:15:59.85\00:16:04.89 So the first two segments are 7 weeks, and then 62 weeks. 00:16:04.93\00:16:09.43 And then in verse 27, it says, 00:16:09.46\00:16:12.53 "Then he shall confirm a covenant with many," 00:16:12.57\00:16:14.90 for what? 00:16:14.94\00:16:16.27 "For one week." 00:16:16.30\00:16:17.64 That's the last week. 00:16:17.67\00:16:19.01 "For one week, but in the middle of the week 00:16:19.04\00:16:20.68 He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering." 00:16:20.71\00:16:23.78 So there's three segments to the 70 weeks, 00:16:23.81\00:16:26.45 three divisions. 00:16:26.48\00:16:27.92 7 weeks, 62 weeks 00:16:27.95\00:16:31.62 and one final week. 00:16:31.65\00:16:36.02 Now why do you have 7 weeks, 7 weeks is equal to 49 years. 00:16:36.06\00:16:41.23 At least I knew 7 times 7 is 49. 00:16:41.26\00:16:44.93 So the first 7 weeks have to do with the rebuilding 00:16:44.97\00:16:50.07 and restoring of Jerusalem. 00:16:50.11\00:16:53.07 You can read this in Daniel 9:25. 00:16:53.11\00:16:55.98 It speaks about these 7 weeks, 00:16:56.01\00:16:58.61 these 49 years after the decree is given. 00:16:58.65\00:17:03.42 It says, "The street shall be rebuild again 00:17:03.45\00:17:07.62 and the wall even in troublous times." 00:17:07.66\00:17:10.66 So the 7 years, 49 years, 00:17:10.69\00:17:13.33 after 457 deals with a rebuilding of the city, 00:17:13.36\00:17:18.00 and the reestablishment of their civil 00:17:18.03\00:17:20.54 and religious order. 00:17:20.57\00:17:22.90 But then you have 62 weeks that go beyond that. 00:17:22.94\00:17:27.24 The 7 plus the 62, take us to the Messiah 00:17:27.28\00:17:32.25 to the anointed one. 00:17:32.28\00:17:34.68 In other words, 69 weeks from 457 BC 00:17:34.72\00:17:39.05 will take you to the moment when the Messiah is anointed, 00:17:39.09\00:17:43.02 when the Messiah appears. 00:17:43.06\00:17:45.06 How many years is that? 00:17:45.09\00:17:46.53 Seven weeks plus 62 weeks is 69 weeks 00:17:46.56\00:17:51.37 times 7 days each week 00:17:51.40\00:17:53.84 is 483 years. 00:17:53.87\00:17:59.44 This is simple math. 00:17:59.47\00:18:02.58 It's not geometry, or algebra, 00:18:02.61\00:18:06.35 or trigonometry, or calculus. 00:18:06.38\00:18:09.35 We should be able to grasp this quiet easily. 00:18:09.38\00:18:13.46 Now let's go once again to Daniel 9:25, 00:18:13.49\00:18:18.66 "Know therefore and understand, 00:18:18.69\00:18:20.20 that from the going forth of the command 00:18:20.23\00:18:22.10 to restore and to build Jerusalem 00:18:22.13\00:18:24.13 until Messiah the Prince, 00:18:24.17\00:18:26.43 there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks." 00:18:26.47\00:18:31.97 I want to repeat once again that the word Messiah, 00:18:32.01\00:18:35.41 the word Messiah means the anointed one. 00:18:35.44\00:18:40.98 The equivalent Greek word is Christ, 00:18:41.02\00:18:44.75 the word Christ means anointed. 00:18:44.79\00:18:47.02 By the way, that's where we get the word christened from. 00:18:47.06\00:18:50.93 A christening is an anointing, right? 00:18:50.96\00:18:53.83 And the first part of christening is Christ. 00:18:53.86\00:18:57.23 So the word Messiah 00:18:57.27\00:18:58.90 or Christ means the anointed one. 00:18:58.93\00:19:01.74 So from the time that the decree is given 00:19:01.77\00:19:04.51 until the anointed one there would be 69 weeks. 00:19:04.54\00:19:08.14 Now the question is, when did Messiah appear 00:19:08.18\00:19:11.88 and when was the Messiah anointed? 00:19:11.91\00:19:15.05 Let's go to Luke 3:1-3. 00:19:15.08\00:19:18.25 Luke 3:1-3, 00:19:18.29\00:19:21.52 this passage gives us 00:19:21.56\00:19:24.39 several historical events to let us know 00:19:24.43\00:19:27.86 when the Messiah was anointed. 00:19:27.90\00:19:31.30 It says, "Now in the fifteenth year 00:19:31.33\00:19:33.67 of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, 00:19:33.70\00:19:36.60 Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, 00:19:36.64\00:19:40.11 Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, 00:19:40.14\00:19:43.24 his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea 00:19:43.28\00:19:46.98 and the region of Traconitis, 00:19:47.02\00:19:49.52 and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, 00:19:49.55\00:19:52.95 while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests." 00:19:52.99\00:19:56.96 I would say that 00:19:56.99\00:19:58.33 we have a lot of historical markers 00:19:58.36\00:19:59.69 here, wouldn't you? 00:19:59.73\00:20:01.70 Now the question is, what is the date? 00:20:01.73\00:20:03.37 We'll come back to that. 00:20:03.40\00:20:04.90 It says here, "The word of God 00:20:04.93\00:20:07.27 came to John the son of Zechariah," 00:20:07.30\00:20:09.47 that John the Baptist, "in the wilderness. 00:20:09.50\00:20:11.64 And he went into all the region around the Jordan, 00:20:11.67\00:20:14.54 preaching a baptism of repentance 00:20:14.58\00:20:17.35 for the remission of sins." 00:20:17.38\00:20:20.18 Now the question is, when did this take place? 00:20:20.22\00:20:24.92 Well, we know that Tiberius Caesar 00:20:24.95\00:20:29.12 began his reign in the year 12 AD, 00:20:29.16\00:20:34.23 12 AD, 00:20:34.26\00:20:35.90 but this happened in the 15th year of his reign. 00:20:35.93\00:20:40.34 So you add 12 plus 15 00:20:40.37\00:20:43.27 and it takes us to what date? 00:20:43.30\00:20:45.57 It takes us to the year 27 AD. 00:20:45.61\00:20:49.94 In other words, the year 27 AD was going to be 00:20:49.98\00:20:53.85 the year in which Messiah would appear, 00:20:53.88\00:20:57.55 the anointed one 00:20:57.59\00:20:59.05 or the Christ was going to appear. 00:20:59.09\00:21:03.56 Now let's go to Mark 1:9-11. 00:21:03.59\00:21:07.73 Mark 1:9-11. 00:21:07.76\00:21:12.27 We just noticed that John 00:21:12.30\00:21:14.30 is going out preaching 00:21:14.34\00:21:18.17 in the year 27, 00:21:18.21\00:21:20.54 and while he's preaching somebody shows up 00:21:20.58\00:21:24.31 to where he is preaching, Jesus. 00:21:24.35\00:21:28.62 It says here in Mark 1:9-11, 00:21:28.65\00:21:32.39 "It came to pass in those days 00:21:32.42\00:21:34.39 that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, 00:21:34.42\00:21:38.29 and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 00:21:38.33\00:21:42.96 And immediately, coming up from the water, 00:21:43.00\00:21:45.53 He saw the seven heavens parting 00:21:45.57\00:21:47.80 and the Spirit descending upon Him 00:21:47.84\00:21:50.27 like a dove. 00:21:50.31\00:21:51.91 Then a voice came from heaven, 00:21:51.94\00:21:53.27 'You are My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.' 00:21:53.31\00:21:56.61 " What date was Jesus baptized? 00:21:56.64\00:21:59.61 He was baptized by John 00:21:59.65\00:22:01.25 the Baptist in the year 27 AD. 00:22:01.28\00:22:06.72 Now let's go to Luke 4:18, 19, 00:22:06.76\00:22:10.66 this is right after the baptism of Jesus. 00:22:10.69\00:22:14.46 Luke 4:18, 19, Jesus goes to the synagogue in Nazareth 00:22:14.50\00:22:19.47 and He opens the book, He's asked to give 00:22:19.50\00:22:23.57 the scripture reading for the worship service. 00:22:23.61\00:22:26.41 And He opens up the scriptures 00:22:26.44\00:22:28.61 to a passage in Isaiah 61. 00:22:28.64\00:22:32.58 It says there in verses 18 and 19, Jesus is speaking, 00:22:32.61\00:22:36.28 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me..." 00:22:36.32\00:22:39.05 When did the Spirit come upon Jesus? 00:22:39.09\00:22:42.06 When He was baptized, right? 00:22:42.09\00:22:44.06 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, 00:22:44.09\00:22:47.03 because He has anointed," what, He's what? 00:22:47.06\00:22:50.20 Oh, so when was Jesus anointed? 00:22:50.23\00:22:53.74 When He was baptized in the year 27. 00:22:53.77\00:22:56.37 "And because He has anointed Me 00:22:56.40\00:22:58.34 to preach the gospel to the poor, 00:22:58.37\00:23:00.38 He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, 00:23:00.41\00:23:02.74 to proclaim liberty to the captives 00:23:02.78\00:23:04.61 and recovery of sight to the blind, 00:23:04.65\00:23:06.48 to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 00:23:06.51\00:23:08.58 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." 00:23:08.62\00:23:12.65 So when Jesus was baptized, 00:23:12.69\00:23:14.22 He was anointed for His mission. 00:23:14.26\00:23:18.63 Now lest you doubt, 00:23:18.66\00:23:20.60 let's go to over Acts 10:36-38. 00:23:20.63\00:23:24.83 Acts 10:36-38, 00:23:24.87\00:23:27.60 scripture interpret scripture. 00:23:27.64\00:23:31.11 The Bible explains itself everything that 00:23:31.14\00:23:34.18 we need to understand the Bible, 00:23:34.21\00:23:35.78 is in the Bible. 00:23:35.81\00:23:37.95 Acts 10:36, 00:23:37.98\00:23:40.75 "The word which God 00:23:40.78\00:23:42.12 sent to the children of Israel, 00:23:42.15\00:23:43.52 preaching peace through Jesus Christ, 00:23:43.55\00:23:45.95 He is Lord of all that word you know, 00:23:45.99\00:23:49.36 which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, 00:23:49.39\00:23:51.79 and began from Galilee after the baptism 00:23:51.83\00:23:54.66 which John preached." 00:23:54.70\00:23:56.36 Now notice, here comes the key portion, 00:23:56.40\00:23:58.73 "How God anointed 00:23:58.77\00:24:02.17 Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit." 00:24:02.20\00:24:06.74 When did Jesus received the Holy Spirit? 00:24:06.78\00:24:09.24 At His baptism. 00:24:09.28\00:24:10.61 And this speaks of His baptism 00:24:10.65\00:24:12.21 as His anointing. 00:24:12.25\00:24:16.72 So to Messiah to the time of the anointed one, 69 weeks. 00:24:16.75\00:24:22.46 And Jesus was anointed in the year 27 AD. 00:24:22.49\00:24:27.46 By the way, shortly after His baptism, 00:24:27.50\00:24:29.46 Jesus spoke some very interesting words. 00:24:29.50\00:24:32.23 Mark 1:13, 14. 00:24:32.27\00:24:35.70 Mark 1:13, 14, 00:24:35.74\00:24:38.54 this is right after His baptism, 00:24:38.57\00:24:39.91 now He's beginning His ministry. 00:24:39.94\00:24:42.44 "Now after John was put in prison, 00:24:42.48\00:24:45.31 Jesus came to Galilee, 00:24:45.35\00:24:47.42 preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 00:24:47.45\00:24:49.78 and saying, 00:24:49.82\00:24:51.75 'The time is fulfilled.' 00:24:51.79\00:24:55.82 " What did Jesus mean when He said, 00:24:55.86\00:24:57.66 "He begins His ministry says, the time is fulfilled." 00:24:57.69\00:25:00.56 What time is He referring to? 00:25:00.60\00:25:03.16 The time of the prophecy of the 70 weeks, 00:25:03.20\00:25:06.74 He has just been baptized. 00:25:06.77\00:25:08.24 "The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God 00:25:08.27\00:25:11.07 is at hand. 00:25:11.11\00:25:12.44 Repent and believe the gospel." 00:25:12.47\00:25:15.98 Now let's go one last text 00:25:16.01\00:25:17.68 about the anointing of the Messiah. 00:25:17.71\00:25:19.88 John 1, we'll read verse 32 00:25:19.91\00:25:23.49 and then we'll go down to verse 41. 00:25:23.52\00:25:26.86 Jesus is baptized and then something 00:25:26.89\00:25:29.99 very interesting happens. 00:25:30.03\00:25:31.79 It says that in verse 32, "And John bore witness, saying, 00:25:31.83\00:25:36.53 'I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, 00:25:36.56\00:25:40.27 and He remained upon Him."' 00:25:40.30\00:25:43.10 Then immediately after His baptism in verse 41, 00:25:43.14\00:25:47.34 Andrew finds his brother Simon 00:25:47.38\00:25:51.78 and he says something very interesting to Simon, 00:25:51.81\00:25:54.68 right after the baptism of Jesus. 00:25:54.72\00:25:57.59 He says, 00:25:57.62\00:25:58.95 "We have found the Messiah." 00:25:58.99\00:26:03.73 Are you catching all these texts? 00:26:03.76\00:26:05.19 The significance. 00:26:05.23\00:26:06.90 We have found the anointed one, right after His baptism, 00:26:06.93\00:26:11.13 which is translated into Greek, 00:26:11.17\00:26:13.87 "The Christ." 00:26:13.90\00:26:17.24 So when was Jesus anointed? 00:26:17.27\00:26:19.67 At His baptism. 00:26:19.71\00:26:21.24 In what year? 00:26:21.28\00:26:23.21 27 AD, 483 years after the command was given 00:26:23.24\00:26:28.98 to restore and build Jerusalem. 00:26:29.02\00:26:31.15 Now what season of the year was Jesus baptized? 00:26:31.19\00:26:36.93 He was baptized in the fall of the year 27. 00:26:36.96\00:26:40.86 You say, how do you know that? 00:26:40.90\00:26:43.63 It's very simple. 00:26:43.67\00:26:45.87 What season of the year, was Jesus crucified? 00:26:45.90\00:26:51.54 In the spring. 00:26:51.57\00:26:54.08 Because He was crucified at Passover, 00:26:54.11\00:26:56.98 and Passover was in March-April, in the spring. 00:26:57.01\00:27:01.88 How long did the ministry of Jesus last? 00:27:01.92\00:27:05.02 Three and half years. 00:27:05.05\00:27:07.02 So you go from the fall of 27, to the fall of 28, 00:27:07.06\00:27:11.96 to the fall of 29, to the fall of 30, 00:27:11.99\00:27:16.16 to the spring of 31. 00:27:16.20\00:27:19.13 How many years? 00:27:19.17\00:27:20.70 Three and half years. 00:27:20.74\00:27:23.30 He was baptized in the fall of the year 27 00:27:23.34\00:27:27.48 and He was crucified in the spring of the year 31. 00:27:27.51\00:27:33.42 Now something was gonna happen in the middle of the last week. 00:27:33.45\00:27:36.72 Well, you notice that, Messiah would come 00:27:36.75\00:27:38.79 at the beginning of the last week. 00:27:38.82\00:27:40.16 Now let's notice what was gonna happen 00:27:40.19\00:27:41.56 in the middle of the last week. 00:27:41.59\00:27:43.22 Daniel 9:26 and I don't have time to deal 00:27:43.26\00:27:46.56 with structural matters of Daniel 9. 00:27:46.59\00:27:49.03 In the material if you go to our website, 00:27:49.06\00:27:51.30 there's a whole structural study 00:27:51.33\00:27:52.67 because things seems to go back and forth 00:27:52.70\00:27:55.64 here in the prophecy of the 70 weeks. 00:27:55.67\00:27:57.47 It appears to not be in order, but it is in order, 00:27:57.51\00:28:00.51 if you know how it's structured. 00:28:00.54\00:28:02.11 But anyway, Daniel 9:26, says, 00:28:02.14\00:28:04.98 "And after the sixty-two weeks." 00:28:05.01\00:28:08.88 Sometime after the 62 weeks and the 7 weeks, 00:28:08.92\00:28:12.15 because the 7 weeks are the first part, 00:28:12.19\00:28:14.19 the 62 weeks are the next part. 00:28:14.22\00:28:16.22 So at some point during the last 62 weeks, 00:28:16.26\00:28:20.06 "Messiah will be cut off," 00:28:20.10\00:28:23.73 the anointed one be cut, 00:28:23.77\00:28:25.40 "but nor for Himself." 00:28:25.43\00:28:27.74 You know, what does that mean? 00:28:27.77\00:28:29.20 Messiah would be cut off, not for Himself. 00:28:29.24\00:28:32.07 Well, we have to go to other places in the Bible 00:28:32.11\00:28:34.04 to find out what it means. 00:28:34.08\00:28:35.44 Isaiah 53:5. 00:28:35.48\00:28:37.11 Isaiah 53:5. 00:28:37.15\00:28:40.82 Who did Jesus die for? Did He die for Himself? 00:28:40.85\00:28:43.89 No. 00:28:43.92\00:28:45.25 Isaiah 53:5 says, 00:28:45.29\00:28:46.76 "But He was wounded for our transgressions, 00:28:46.79\00:28:49.62 He was bruised for our iniquities, 00:28:49.66\00:28:51.79 the chastisement of our peace was upon him, 00:28:51.83\00:28:54.83 and with His stripes we are healed." 00:28:54.86\00:28:59.40 So He was cut off not for Himself. 00:28:59.43\00:29:03.34 What does cut off mean? 00:29:03.37\00:29:05.61 Isaiah 53:8, it says, 00:29:05.64\00:29:08.44 "He was taken," 00:29:08.48\00:29:09.81 speaking about Jesus the Messiah. 00:29:09.84\00:29:11.21 "He was taken from prison and from judgment, 00:29:11.25\00:29:13.58 and who shall declare His generation? 00:29:13.62\00:29:15.82 For he was cut off out of the land of the living, 00:29:15.85\00:29:20.46 for the transgression of my people was he stricken." 00:29:20.49\00:29:24.73 What does the cutting off, of Messiah mean? 00:29:24.76\00:29:27.70 It means that He was going to be killed. 00:29:27.73\00:29:31.13 But He would die not for Himself. 00:29:31.17\00:29:33.90 Is that true of Jesus? 00:29:33.94\00:29:36.00 Absolutely. 00:29:36.04\00:29:38.01 Now there's something very interesting. 00:29:38.04\00:29:40.98 There is a link 00:29:41.01\00:29:42.34 between the death of the Messiah 00:29:42.38\00:29:46.41 and another destruction of Jerusalem. 00:29:46.45\00:29:49.48 You see, this prophecy tells us 00:29:49.52\00:29:51.29 that at end of the 70 weeks, Jerusalem is gonna be 00:29:51.32\00:29:55.12 destroyed again like it was destroyed 00:29:55.16\00:29:57.76 by Nebuchadnezzar, 00:29:57.79\00:29:59.13 and it will be destroyed 00:29:59.16\00:30:00.50 because they rejected the Messiah. 00:30:00.53\00:30:03.40 You say, is there in the prophecy 00:30:03.43\00:30:04.77 of the 70 weeks? 00:30:04.80\00:30:06.13 Yes it is. 00:30:06.17\00:30:07.50 Let's go back to Daniel 9:26 00:30:07.54\00:30:10.01 and we'll read the last part of the verse. 00:30:10.04\00:30:13.01 After saying we just read, 00:30:13.04\00:30:15.44 "That Messiah would be cut off, but nor himself." 00:30:15.48\00:30:19.45 Then it speaks about the destruction 00:30:19.48\00:30:20.98 of the Jerusalem. 00:30:21.02\00:30:22.35 It says, "And the people of the prince 00:30:22.38\00:30:24.12 that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary." 00:30:24.15\00:30:28.49 Was Jerusalem gonna be destroyed again? 00:30:28.52\00:30:30.43 And the sanctuary gonna be destroyed again? 00:30:30.46\00:30:32.73 Yes. 00:30:32.76\00:30:34.10 Does it have anything to do 00:30:34.13\00:30:35.46 with the cutting off of the Messiah? 00:30:35.50\00:30:37.07 Yes. 00:30:37.10\00:30:38.43 So it says, "And the people of the prince 00:30:38.47\00:30:39.80 that shall come shall destroy the city 00:30:39.83\00:30:42.04 and the sanctuary, 00:30:42.07\00:30:43.41 and the end thereof shall be with a flood, 00:30:43.44\00:30:46.61 and unto the end of the war desolations are determined." 00:30:46.64\00:30:51.25 Matthew 24 speaks about, 00:30:51.28\00:30:52.91 "When you see the abomination of desolation..." 00:30:52.95\00:30:58.05 We'll come back to that. 00:30:58.09\00:30:59.82 Now there were further events during the last week, 00:30:59.85\00:31:03.02 not only was the Messiah gonna be cut off, 00:31:03.06\00:31:05.16 but Daniel Chapter 9 gives us the specific point 00:31:05.19\00:31:09.66 in the last week when He was gonna be cut off. 00:31:09.70\00:31:12.33 Daniel 9:27 says, 00:31:12.37\00:31:18.01 "And He," 00:31:18.04\00:31:19.37 that is the prince who shall come, 00:31:19.41\00:31:20.74 that we read about in the previous verse, 00:31:20.78\00:31:22.38 we'll come back to that, "shall confirm the covenant 00:31:22.41\00:31:25.71 with many for one week." 00:31:25.75\00:31:28.35 Which week is that? 00:31:28.38\00:31:29.98 It's a last week, right? 00:31:30.02\00:31:31.35 We're dealing with the last week. 00:31:31.39\00:31:32.89 So what is the prince that who is to come, going to do? 00:31:32.92\00:31:36.32 He is going to confirm the covenant, during what? 00:31:36.36\00:31:40.16 During the last week. 00:31:40.20\00:31:41.70 And He's gonna confirm it with what? 00:31:41.73\00:31:44.50 Many for the last week. 00:31:44.53\00:31:47.47 Now there's something very interesting 00:31:47.50\00:31:50.07 and that is in the Book of Daniel, 00:31:50.11\00:31:51.77 when the word Prince is used. 00:31:51.81\00:31:55.08 It always refers to Jesus, 00:31:55.11\00:31:57.48 unless it's dealing with a secular prince. 00:31:57.51\00:32:01.65 The word Prince refers here to Jesus, 00:32:01.68\00:32:04.85 He will confirm the covenant with many. 00:32:04.89\00:32:07.82 Now let's notice in the New Testament, 00:32:07.86\00:32:10.13 the fulfillment of this, 00:32:10.16\00:32:12.33 Daniel or Matthew 26:27, 28. 00:32:12.36\00:32:16.83 Matthew 26:27, 28 00:32:16.87\00:32:20.47 this is when Jesus instituted the Lord Supper. 00:32:20.50\00:32:23.51 Remember the key words are covenant and many. 00:32:23.54\00:32:26.41 Right? Those are the key words. 00:32:26.44\00:32:28.34 The last week He will confirm the covenant with many. 00:32:28.38\00:32:33.62 In Matthew 26:27, 28, it says, "He took the cup, 00:32:33.65\00:32:37.72 and He gave thanks, and gave it to them, 00:32:37.75\00:32:40.06 saying, 'Drink from it, all of you. 00:32:40.09\00:32:43.36 For this is My blood of the new covenant, 00:32:43.39\00:32:47.30 which is shed for many for the remission of sins," 00:32:47.33\00:32:52.37 the two key words. 00:32:52.40\00:32:54.34 Notice, Mark 10:45. 00:32:54.37\00:32:56.91 Mark 10:45, 00:32:56.94\00:32:59.11 "For even the Son of Man did not come not to be served, 00:32:59.14\00:33:01.51 but to serve, and to give His life 00:33:01.54\00:33:03.68 a ransom for many." 00:33:03.71\00:33:06.51 Once again, Isaiah 53:1, you know, 00:33:06.55\00:33:10.49 you would have to be awful fast 00:33:10.52\00:33:11.85 with your fingers to find these texts 00:33:11.89\00:33:13.89 but you know, 00:33:13.92\00:33:15.26 I just want you to catch the picture. 00:33:15.29\00:33:17.03 If you're writing down the text, 00:33:17.06\00:33:18.39 you'll be able to look at them later. 00:33:18.43\00:33:20.26 Isaiah 53:11, 00:33:20.30\00:33:22.00 this remarkable Messianic prophecy says, 00:33:22.03\00:33:24.73 "Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, 00:33:24.77\00:33:30.01 and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, 00:33:30.04\00:33:32.74 because He poured out His soul." 00:33:32.77\00:33:34.94 The word soul means life. 00:33:34.98\00:33:36.31 "He poured out His soul unto death, 00:33:36.34\00:33:38.21 and He was numbered with the transgressors, 00:33:38.25\00:33:40.28 and He bore the sin of many, 00:33:40.32\00:33:44.09 and made intercession for the transgressors." 00:33:44.12\00:33:47.46 Now here's something interesting. 00:33:47.49\00:33:49.22 The word covenant 00:33:49.26\00:33:51.36 when it is used in the Book of Daniel, 00:33:51.39\00:33:54.16 it always refers to God's covenant, 00:33:54.20\00:33:56.93 it never refers to a secular covenant. 00:33:56.97\00:34:01.04 And the reason I say this is important 00:34:01.07\00:34:03.17 is because futurists believe 00:34:03.20\00:34:05.67 that the prince that who is to come 00:34:05.71\00:34:07.81 is a roman prince 00:34:07.84\00:34:09.18 that will establish a 10 nation generation, 00:34:09.21\00:34:12.85 10 nation federation at the end of time. 00:34:12.88\00:34:17.12 And he will be the prince that will come 00:34:17.15\00:34:19.65 and he will fulfill this prophecy. 00:34:19.69\00:34:22.72 But I'm gonna show you that the prince who is to come, 00:34:22.76\00:34:25.73 is not some prince who will arise 00:34:25.76\00:34:27.96 after the rapture of the church 00:34:28.00\00:34:29.83 and then reestablish a 10 nation Roman federation 00:34:29.86\00:34:33.84 and persecute the Jews. 00:34:33.87\00:34:35.77 The prince who is to come here is none other than Jesus Christ 00:34:35.80\00:34:39.84 and the covenant is not some secular covenant 00:34:39.87\00:34:42.81 of this individual in the future 00:34:42.84\00:34:44.61 with a literal Jewish nation. 00:34:44.65\00:34:46.28 The covenant here is God's covenant 00:34:46.31\00:34:49.38 that He ratifies with His people 00:34:49.42\00:34:51.25 when He comes to this earth the first time. 00:34:51.29\00:34:54.92 Now there's another thing that's gonna happen 00:34:54.96\00:34:56.76 during the last week. 00:34:56.79\00:34:59.39 Now we're gonna see when the Messiah is cut off. 00:34:59.43\00:35:02.46 Daniel 9:27, 00:35:02.50\00:35:07.00 "Then he shall confirm a covenant 00:35:07.04\00:35:09.87 with many for one week." 00:35:09.90\00:35:12.17 That's the last week, week number seven. 00:35:12.21\00:35:14.58 By the way would He confirm the covenant 00:35:14.61\00:35:16.61 with literal Israel during that week? 00:35:16.64\00:35:19.08 Of course, He would have to, 00:35:19.11\00:35:21.08 because the 70 weeks were determined for whom? 00:35:21.12\00:35:24.42 The 70 weeks were for Israel. 00:35:24.45\00:35:27.42 So that last week, what He's doing, 00:35:27.46\00:35:29.59 He's doing specifically in Israel, 00:35:29.62\00:35:32.06 He's doing for Israel. 00:35:32.09\00:35:33.43 He sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel 00:35:33.46\00:35:36.46 until the year 34 00:35:36.50\00:35:38.37 when the 70 weeks come to an end. 00:35:38.40\00:35:39.93 So it says, 00:35:39.97\00:35:41.30 "Then he shall confirm a covenant 00:35:41.34\00:35:42.67 with many for one week, but in the middle of the week," 00:35:42.70\00:35:45.97 the middle of the last week, 00:35:46.01\00:35:48.18 "He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering." 00:35:48.21\00:35:51.55 So when was Messiah gonna be cut off? 00:35:54.68\00:35:57.75 In the middle of the last week. 00:35:57.79\00:35:59.65 Now here's something very interesting, 00:35:59.69\00:36:01.36 Notice Mark 15:38, 39. 00:36:01.39\00:36:04.76 Mark 15:38, 39, 00:36:04.79\00:36:07.46 Jesus is on the cross and He's about to die. 00:36:07.50\00:36:11.07 In fact, He's gonna breathe His last. 00:36:11.10\00:36:12.53 And when He breathed His last, something happens. 00:36:12.57\00:36:15.34 "And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, 00:36:15.37\00:36:17.27 and breathed His last. 00:36:17.31\00:36:18.87 Then the veil of the temple was torn in two 00:36:18.91\00:36:21.24 from top to bottom." 00:36:21.28\00:36:22.78 It was a massive veil in the temple. 00:36:22.81\00:36:26.88 And something very interesting happened 00:36:26.92\00:36:29.15 at that very moment. 00:36:29.18\00:36:31.49 Ellen White wrote in Desire of Ages, 00:36:31.52\00:36:34.82 page 757, a very remarkable statement. 00:36:34.86\00:36:38.79 You see, the prophecy says, 00:36:38.83\00:36:40.33 "That in the middle of the week, 00:36:40.36\00:36:41.76 he would cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease." 00:36:41.80\00:36:46.43 The sacrifice and offering would cease at that moment. 00:36:46.47\00:36:50.17 That was literally fulfilled. 00:36:50.21\00:36:53.51 Desire of Ages, 757, 00:36:53.54\00:36:55.24 listen to this remarkable statement. 00:36:55.28\00:36:57.75 This is when the veil is ripped from top to bottom. 00:36:57.78\00:37:01.48 "All is terror and confusion. 00:37:01.52\00:37:05.12 The priest is about to slay the victim," 00:37:05.15\00:37:07.99 because at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, 00:37:08.02\00:37:09.99 the hour of the evening sacrifice, 00:37:10.03\00:37:12.93 "but the knife drops from his nerveless hand, 00:37:12.96\00:37:16.67 and the lamb escapes." 00:37:16.70\00:37:20.84 No lamb died that day, 00:37:20.87\00:37:24.47 the lamb escapes. 00:37:24.51\00:37:26.51 "Type has met antitype." 00:37:26.54\00:37:29.74 In other words, the fulfillment is here, 00:37:29.78\00:37:32.75 that day the lamb did not die 00:37:32.78\00:37:34.68 because the love of God who takes the sin 00:37:34.72\00:37:37.75 away from the world is the one who died. 00:37:37.79\00:37:40.52 Literally the sacrifice and oblation ceased. 00:37:40.56\00:37:43.59 She continues writing, 00:37:43.63\00:37:44.96 "The great sacrifice had been made. 00:37:44.99\00:37:47.30 The way into the holiest is laid open. 00:37:47.33\00:37:50.37 A new and living way is prepared for all... 00:37:50.40\00:37:52.63 No longer need sinful, sorrowing humanity await 00:37:52.67\00:37:56.00 for the coming of the high priest. 00:37:56.04\00:37:57.74 Henceforth the Savior was to officiate as a priest 00:37:57.77\00:38:01.78 and advocate in the heaven of heavens." 00:38:01.81\00:38:04.81 It was, now notice our terminology. 00:38:04.85\00:38:07.15 "It was as if a living voice had spoken to the worshipers, 00:38:07.18\00:38:11.95 There is now an end to all scarifies 00:38:11.99\00:38:15.39 and offerings." 00:38:15.42\00:38:17.79 Wow! 00:38:17.83\00:38:19.33 Literally fulfilled, 00:38:19.36\00:38:20.96 the sacrifice and the offering ceased. 00:38:21.00\00:38:23.87 Of course, the very next day they started all over again, 00:38:23.90\00:38:27.84 but with no significance whatsoever. 00:38:27.87\00:38:31.51 Hebrews 7:26, 27 tells us, 00:38:31.54\00:38:34.98 "For such a High Priest was fitting for us, 00:38:35.01\00:38:39.21 who is holy, harmless, 00:38:39.25\00:38:40.58 undefiled, separate from sinners, 00:38:40.62\00:38:42.28 and has become higher than the heavens, 00:38:42.32\00:38:44.75 who does not need daily, as those high priests, 00:38:44.79\00:38:48.59 to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins 00:38:48.62\00:38:51.73 and then for the people's, for this He did once for all 00:38:51.76\00:38:55.76 when He offered up Himself." 00:38:55.80\00:38:59.80 Are you understanding this prophecy? 00:38:59.83\00:39:01.90 It's a remarkable prophecy. 00:39:01.94\00:39:04.41 Not only does it describe the events, 00:39:04.44\00:39:07.64 but it describes the specific timing 00:39:07.68\00:39:10.58 for those events. 00:39:10.61\00:39:12.81 Now you say, no, wait a minute, Pastor, 00:39:12.85\00:39:14.18 you said, 00:39:14.22\00:39:15.55 "That the people of the prince shall come 00:39:15.58\00:39:17.59 and shall destroy the city 00:39:17.62\00:39:20.16 and the sanctuary." 00:39:20.19\00:39:24.13 Who is the prince? 00:39:24.16\00:39:25.99 Who are the people of the prince? 00:39:26.03\00:39:28.56 Well, I'll tell you upfront, 00:39:28.60\00:39:29.93 the people of the prince are the Jews. 00:39:29.96\00:39:32.87 And the prince is Jesus. 00:39:32.90\00:39:35.67 You say, now wait a minute, that can't be true 00:39:35.70\00:39:39.97 because the Jews did not destroy Jerusalem. 00:39:40.01\00:39:43.98 It says the people of the prince 00:39:44.01\00:39:45.38 that shall come shall destroy the city. 00:39:45.41\00:39:47.22 It says here that people are gonna destroy the city. 00:39:47.25\00:39:49.38 The people of the prince are gonna destroy the city, 00:39:49.42\00:39:53.02 and the sanctuary. 00:39:53.05\00:39:56.46 So the question is, did the Jews destroy the city? 00:39:56.49\00:40:01.73 Well, let me first of all deal with the word prince. 00:40:01.76\00:40:06.50 As I mentioned before the word prince in Daniel, 00:40:06.53\00:40:10.61 when it's used in the religious context, 00:40:10.64\00:40:12.81 always means Jesus. 00:40:12.84\00:40:16.11 He's called in Daniel 9:25, Messiah the Prince. 00:40:16.14\00:40:20.32 In Daniel 8:11, 12, 00:40:20.35\00:40:21.82 He's called the Prince of the host. 00:40:21.85\00:40:25.09 In Daniel 11:22, 00:40:25.12\00:40:26.59 He's called the Prince of the covenant. 00:40:26.62\00:40:29.42 And in Daniel 12:1, 00:40:29.46\00:40:31.03 He's called Michael the Great Prince. 00:40:31.06\00:40:34.16 The word prince always applies to Jesus, 00:40:34.20\00:40:36.46 so it must apply to Jesus in this verse as well. 00:40:36.50\00:40:41.57 I want to read 00:40:41.60\00:40:42.94 from Joshua 5:13-15. 00:40:42.97\00:40:48.11 This is right when Jericho is gonna be destroyed, 00:40:48.14\00:40:52.28 and Joshua is on the outskirts of the city 00:40:52.31\00:40:55.18 and a majestic beam appears to him. 00:40:55.22\00:40:58.99 And Joshua sees this warrior 00:40:59.02\00:41:02.69 with his sword in his hand 00:41:02.72\00:41:04.93 and asks him who he is? 00:41:04.96\00:41:06.29 Let's read Joshua 5:13-15, "And it came to pass, 00:41:06.33\00:41:10.33 when Joshua was by Jericho, 00:41:10.37\00:41:12.00 that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, 00:41:12.03\00:41:14.70 a Man stood opposite him 00:41:14.74\00:41:16.14 with His sword drawn in His hand 00:41:16.17\00:41:17.91 and Joshua went to Him and said to Him, 00:41:17.94\00:41:19.87 'Are You for us or for our adversaries?' 00:41:19.91\00:41:24.41 So He said, 'No, but as Commander..." 00:41:24.45\00:41:27.88 And actually the King James says Prince. 00:41:27.92\00:41:31.02 Same word as in Daniel. 00:41:31.05\00:41:32.39 "The Prince of the army of the Lord, I have now come." 00:41:32.42\00:41:37.03 Who was this Prince of the army of the Lord? 00:41:37.06\00:41:40.90 Oh, there's no doubt who it is because it says here. 00:41:40.93\00:41:44.73 "And Joshua fell on his face 00:41:44.77\00:41:46.87 to the earth and worshiped, 00:41:46.90\00:41:50.27 and said to Him, 00:41:50.31\00:41:51.64 'What does my Lord say to His servant?' 00:41:51.67\00:41:53.24 Then the Commander of the Lord's army 00:41:53.27\00:41:55.64 or the Lord's host said to Joshua, 00:41:55.68\00:41:57.88 'Take your sandal off your foot, 00:41:57.91\00:42:00.75 for the place where you are stand is holy.' 00:42:00.78\00:42:03.39 And Joshua did so.' 00:42:03.42\00:42:05.22 " Who is the Prince of the host? 00:42:05.25\00:42:07.29 He is God. 00:42:07.32\00:42:10.96 Because Joshua calls Him Lord, 00:42:10.99\00:42:14.26 because Joshua bows and worships 00:42:14.30\00:42:17.47 and because this Prince of the host commands him 00:42:17.50\00:42:21.54 to take his shoes off his feet 00:42:21.57\00:42:24.81 because where he stands is holy. 00:42:24.84\00:42:28.64 So who is this prince that is going to come? 00:42:28.68\00:42:32.51 It's Jesus. 00:42:32.55\00:42:34.05 The people are the Jews. 00:42:34.08\00:42:35.92 Now let's look at the expression, 00:42:35.95\00:42:38.29 the Prince who is to come. 00:42:38.32\00:42:40.09 That expression 00:42:40.12\00:42:41.46 who is to come is very important. 00:42:41.49\00:42:43.86 Let's go to Psalm 118, 00:42:43.89\00:42:46.29 we'll read verse 22 and 23 and then we'll go to verse 26. 00:42:46.33\00:42:50.90 Psalm 118:22 and then verse 26, 00:42:50.93\00:42:56.10 Jesus here is prophetically speaking about Himself. 00:42:56.14\00:43:01.71 "The stone which the builders rejected 00:43:01.74\00:43:06.18 has become the chief cornerstone." 00:43:06.21\00:43:08.95 He's speaking about Himself, isn't He? 00:43:08.98\00:43:10.32 He's the stone. 00:43:10.35\00:43:12.05 "This was the Lord's doing, it is marvelous in our eyes. 00:43:12.09\00:43:17.33 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" 00:43:17.36\00:43:22.83 Daniel says, "The Prince who is to come." 00:43:22.86\00:43:25.80 Here it says, 00:43:25.83\00:43:27.17 "That Jesus was the stone that the builders rejected." 00:43:27.20\00:43:29.87 He said, "Blessed is he who comes 00:43:29.90\00:43:32.91 in the name of the Lord!" 00:43:32.94\00:43:35.44 Jesus quoted this verse. 00:43:35.48\00:43:37.88 In Matthew 21:42, at the conclusion 00:43:37.91\00:43:42.32 of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. 00:43:42.35\00:43:46.15 Matthew 21:42 says, "Jesus said to them, 00:43:46.19\00:43:50.23 "Have you never read in the Scriptures, 00:43:50.26\00:43:51.79 'The stone which the builders rejected 00:43:51.83\00:43:53.83 has become the chief cornerstone. 00:43:53.86\00:43:55.56 This was the Lord's doing, 00:43:55.60\00:43:57.17 and it is marvelous in our eyes'?" 00:43:57.20\00:44:00.14 He's quoting this verse from the Psalms. 00:44:00.17\00:44:03.77 And when Jesus was 00:44:03.81\00:44:05.14 entering triumphantly into Jerusalem 00:44:05.17\00:44:07.61 on what Christians call Palm Sunday, 00:44:07.64\00:44:10.98 I want you to notice what the people sang, 00:44:11.01\00:44:13.72 they sang Psalm 118. 00:44:13.75\00:44:16.82 Matthew 21:9 says, 00:44:16.85\00:44:19.02 "Then the multitudes who went before 00:44:19.05\00:44:21.69 and those who followed cried out, saying, 00:44:21.72\00:44:23.83 'Hosanna to the Son of David! 00:44:23.86\00:44:26.26 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!' 00:44:26.29\00:44:30.13 Hosanna in the highest!" 00:44:30.17\00:44:32.57 ' Who is the Prince who is to come? 00:44:32.60\00:44:35.67 Jesus is the Prince who is to come, 00:44:35.70\00:44:37.94 when you look at the phrases. 00:44:37.97\00:44:40.64 And then Jesus goes on to say 00:44:40.68\00:44:44.35 that the kingdom will be taken from the Jews 00:44:44.38\00:44:48.38 and given to a nation 00:44:48.42\00:44:49.88 that produces the fruits thereof. 00:44:49.92\00:44:52.25 In Matthew 21:43 he says, "Therefore I say to you, 00:44:52.29\00:44:57.29 the kingdom of God will be taken from you 00:44:57.33\00:44:59.49 and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it." 00:44:59.53\00:45:02.06 And in Luke 19, 00:45:02.10\00:45:03.43 in the parallel passage after the people sing, 00:45:03.47\00:45:06.33 "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!" 00:45:06.37\00:45:09.80 And after Jesus says, 00:45:09.84\00:45:11.44 "I'm the stone that the builders rejected." 00:45:11.47\00:45:13.84 Then Jesus goes on to speak about the kingdom 00:45:13.88\00:45:17.18 being given to the Gentiles 00:45:17.21\00:45:18.58 and He refers to the destruction 00:45:18.61\00:45:19.95 of Jerusalem. 00:45:19.98\00:45:21.32 Notice Luke 19:37-44. 00:45:21.35\00:45:23.59 Does the killing of the Messiah have anything to do 00:45:23.62\00:45:26.22 with the destruction of Jerusalem? 00:45:26.25\00:45:28.22 It does. 00:45:28.26\00:45:29.59 Twice we find in this prophecy that there is a link 00:45:29.62\00:45:32.53 between the Jewish nation slaying the Messiah 00:45:32.56\00:45:36.03 and the result of destruction of Jerusalem. 00:45:36.06\00:45:38.00 Notice Luke 19, 00:45:38.03\00:45:40.34 "Then, as He was now drawing near 00:45:40.37\00:45:42.27 the descent of the Mount of Olives, 00:45:42.30\00:45:44.21 the whole multitude of the disciples 00:45:44.24\00:45:46.47 began to rejoice and praise God 00:45:46.51\00:45:48.44 with a loud voice for all the mighty works 00:45:48.48\00:45:51.11 they had seen, saying, 00:45:51.15\00:45:52.48 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!' 00:45:52.51\00:45:55.72 Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!' 00:45:55.75\00:45:58.82 And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, 00:45:58.85\00:46:01.49 'Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.' 00:46:01.52\00:46:03.66 But He answered and said to them, 00:46:03.69\00:46:05.16 'I tell you that if these should keep silent, 00:46:05.19\00:46:07.96 the stones would immediately cry out.' 00:46:08.00\00:46:10.60 Now as He drew near, 00:46:10.63\00:46:11.97 He saw the city and wept over it, 00:46:12.00\00:46:13.57 saying, 'If you had known even you, 00:46:13.60\00:46:15.50 especially in this your day, 00:46:15.54\00:46:17.64 the things that make for your peace! 00:46:17.67\00:46:19.41 But now they are hidden from your eyes. 00:46:19.44\00:46:21.54 For the days will come," 00:46:21.58\00:46:22.91 notice He's speaking about His rejection, 00:46:22.94\00:46:24.48 the stone that the builders rejected, 00:46:24.51\00:46:26.78 they sing blessed is He 00:46:26.82\00:46:28.78 who comes in the name of the Lord! 00:46:28.82\00:46:30.15 Jesus says the kingdom is gonna be taken from you 00:46:30.19\00:46:32.55 and it's gonna be given to the Gentiles 00:46:32.59\00:46:33.99 and then Jesus speaks 00:46:34.02\00:46:35.36 about the destruction of Jerusalem 00:46:35.39\00:46:36.73 because of His rejection, of their rejection of Him. 00:46:36.76\00:46:40.50 So it says in verse 43, "For days will come upon you 00:46:40.53\00:46:43.97 when your enemies will build an embankment around you, 00:46:44.00\00:46:47.34 surround you and close you in on every side, 00:46:47.37\00:46:51.11 and level you, and your children within you, 00:46:51.14\00:46:53.91 to the ground, and they will not leave in you 00:46:53.94\00:46:57.18 one stone upon another." 00:46:57.21\00:46:58.71 Is this speaking about 00:46:58.75\00:47:00.08 the destruction of the Jerusalem? 00:47:00.12\00:47:01.48 Yes or no? 00:47:01.52\00:47:02.85 Absolutely. 00:47:02.88\00:47:04.22 Why was Jerusalem destroyed? 00:47:04.25\00:47:05.95 Daniel says, "He will be cut off 00:47:05.99\00:47:08.22 and then the city is destroyed." 00:47:08.26\00:47:10.63 Here it says, Jesus says, 00:47:10.66\00:47:12.53 "The city is gonna be destroyed." 00:47:12.56\00:47:14.06 And then at the end of the verse He says, 00:47:14.10\00:47:16.56 "Because you did not know 00:47:16.60\00:47:20.27 the time of your visitation." 00:47:20.30\00:47:25.34 Are you with me? 00:47:25.37\00:47:27.21 Now we still have to resolve the issue of, 00:47:27.24\00:47:30.41 how it is that the people of the Prince 00:47:30.45\00:47:33.21 who is to come destroyed Jerusalem? 00:47:33.25\00:47:37.69 How is that possible that the Prince, 00:47:37.72\00:47:39.65 the people of the Prince destroyed Jerusalem? 00:47:39.69\00:47:42.99 Well, who destroyed Jerusalem 00:47:43.02\00:47:46.06 in the year 70? 00:47:46.09\00:47:49.03 It depends how you look at it. 00:47:49.06\00:47:52.50 Did the Jews destroy their own city? 00:47:52.53\00:47:56.14 Did they bring destruction on their own city? 00:47:56.17\00:47:59.37 Ha, by rejecting the Messiah. 00:47:59.41\00:48:03.85 Did God destroy the city? 00:48:03.88\00:48:06.95 Yes, He did, 00:48:06.98\00:48:08.38 because in the parable of Matthew 22:7, 8 it says, 00:48:08.42\00:48:11.59 "That after they rejected the message 00:48:11.62\00:48:14.56 after Christ was sacrificed, it said that the king got mad 00:48:14.59\00:48:18.63 and he burned their city and destroyed those mirrors." 00:48:18.66\00:48:23.00 So God did it. 00:48:23.03\00:48:26.03 Did the Romans do it? 00:48:26.07\00:48:30.37 Did the Romans do it? 00:48:30.41\00:48:32.67 So who did it? 00:48:32.71\00:48:37.11 The people, by their apostasy 00:48:37.15\00:48:40.42 led God to use the Romans to destroy the city. 00:48:40.45\00:48:44.69 But technically the people 00:48:44.72\00:48:46.69 of the Prince destroyed the city. 00:48:46.72\00:48:48.92 Are you with me or not? 00:48:48.96\00:48:50.76 Let me read you a statement from Ellen White. 00:48:50.79\00:48:53.40 I never cease to marvel 00:48:53.43\00:48:54.86 at the simplicity of Ellen White. 00:48:54.90\00:48:58.43 She always gets it right. 00:48:58.47\00:49:01.10 These days she's used very little in the church. 00:49:01.14\00:49:04.41 You see we go by the Bible. 00:49:04.44\00:49:07.74 Untrue. 00:49:07.78\00:49:10.11 Not even by the Bible. 00:49:10.15\00:49:13.78 I marvel every time 00:49:13.82\00:49:15.38 I read the writings of Ellen White. 00:49:15.42\00:49:16.75 I'll tell you my mouth is open 00:49:16.79\00:49:20.79 when I read her writings with the depth, 00:49:20.82\00:49:23.02 the profound theological depth. 00:49:23.06\00:49:25.09 Great Controversy, 35 and 36, 00:49:25.13\00:49:27.80 she's speaking about the destruction of Jerusalem. 00:49:27.83\00:49:29.90 "The Jews had forged their own fetters, 00:49:29.93\00:49:34.10 they had filled for themselves the cup of vengeance. 00:49:34.14\00:49:38.07 In the utter destruction that befell them as a nation, 00:49:38.11\00:49:42.48 and in all the woes that followed them 00:49:42.51\00:49:44.58 in their dispersion, 00:49:44.61\00:49:46.15 they were but reaping the harvest 00:49:46.18\00:49:48.28 which their own hands had sown. 00:49:48.32\00:49:51.59 Says the prophet, 00:49:51.62\00:49:52.99 'O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself,'" 00:49:53.02\00:49:57.53 she's quoting from scripture. 00:49:57.56\00:49:59.46 "'For thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.' 00:49:59.49\00:50:02.76 Their sufferings are often represented 00:50:02.80\00:50:05.30 as a punishment visited upon them 00:50:05.33\00:50:07.47 by the direct decree of God. 00:50:07.50\00:50:09.80 It is thus that the great deceiver 00:50:09.84\00:50:11.47 seeks to conceal his own work. 00:50:11.51\00:50:14.18 By stubborn rejection of divine love and mercy, 00:50:14.21\00:50:17.28 the Jews had caused the protection of God to be 00:50:17.31\00:50:20.95 withdrawn from them, 00:50:20.98\00:50:22.38 and Satan was permitted to rule them 00:50:22.42\00:50:25.15 according to his will. 00:50:25.19\00:50:28.79 By the way, the same thing happened 00:50:28.82\00:50:31.93 with Jerusalem 00:50:31.96\00:50:33.96 when it was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar 00:50:34.00\00:50:35.56 in the Old Testament. 00:50:35.60\00:50:38.03 Who destroyed Jerusalem in the Old Testament? 00:50:38.07\00:50:42.84 Was it Nebuchadnezzar? 00:50:42.87\00:50:45.87 Yes. 00:50:45.91\00:50:48.34 Was it God? 00:50:48.38\00:50:51.05 Yes. 00:50:51.08\00:50:53.01 Was it the Jews? 00:50:53.05\00:50:55.18 Yes. 00:50:55.22\00:50:58.69 You see, they had filled the cup, 00:50:58.72\00:51:00.29 it says in the prophecy it says, 00:51:00.32\00:51:02.36 "Until there was no remedy." 00:51:02.39\00:51:06.66 That cannot be healed. 00:51:06.70\00:51:09.56 And so because there was no remedy 00:51:09.60\00:51:11.03 the cup was full. 00:51:11.07\00:51:13.77 God says, "I will use My servant." 00:51:13.80\00:51:15.50 By the way, 00:51:15.54\00:51:16.87 God calls Nebuchadnezzar His servant. 00:51:16.91\00:51:20.14 "I will use My servant Nebuchadnezzar 00:51:20.18\00:51:23.58 to destroy Jerusalem and take away governance 00:51:23.61\00:51:27.22 because of the sin of the people." 00:51:27.25\00:51:31.69 So what does that mean, 00:51:31.72\00:51:33.05 when it says the people of the Prince 00:51:33.09\00:51:34.42 that shall come will destroy the city? 00:51:34.46\00:51:37.63 Is that prince, a Roman prince, 00:51:37.66\00:51:39.43 that's going to rise after the rapture of the church 00:51:39.46\00:51:41.96 in the Middle East 00:51:42.00\00:51:43.73 and he's gonna sign a peace treaty, 00:51:43.77\00:51:45.57 a covenant with Israel. 00:51:45.60\00:51:48.70 And he's gonna establish a 10 nation federation 00:51:48.74\00:51:51.97 and there in the first three and half years 00:51:52.01\00:51:53.78 he's gonna keep his covenant with the Jews. 00:51:53.81\00:51:55.94 And then after the first three and half years, 00:51:55.98\00:51:57.91 he's gonna break his covenant with the Jews 00:51:57.95\00:52:00.12 and he's gonna bring 00:52:00.15\00:52:01.48 a terrible tribulation upon them. 00:52:01.52\00:52:02.88 He's gonna persecute them, 00:52:02.92\00:52:04.72 and that's the time of trouble for the Jews, 00:52:04.75\00:52:06.86 but the church is enjoying the bliss of heaven. 00:52:06.89\00:52:12.69 False prophecy! 00:52:12.73\00:52:15.46 It's a very serious thing to take a prophecy 00:52:15.50\00:52:19.50 that centers in Messiah 00:52:19.53\00:52:21.67 and attributed to the Antichrist. 00:52:21.70\00:52:25.84 It's blasphemy to say that this Prince is the Antichrist, 00:52:25.87\00:52:31.75 instead of realizing that it is a Christ, 00:52:31.78\00:52:35.65 and the reason why the city was destroyed 00:52:35.68\00:52:37.89 is because they did not know the hour of their visitation. 00:52:37.92\00:52:43.69 The center of this prophecy is not Antichrist, 00:52:43.73\00:52:47.56 the center of the last week is not Antichrist, 00:52:47.60\00:52:49.83 the center of this prophecy 00:52:49.86\00:52:51.83 from beginning to end 00:52:51.87\00:52:53.47 is Jesus Christ. 00:52:53.50\00:52:55.24 Did you understand this prophecy? 00:52:58.27\00:53:00.08 I'm amazed, 00:53:00.11\00:53:01.84 I was able to cover as much as I did. 00:53:01.88\00:53:04.28 I tried to explain at the best I could, 00:53:04.31\00:53:06.55 it's a complex prophecy with many elements. 00:53:06.58\00:53:09.75 Now we still have to speak about the last three 00:53:09.78\00:53:13.82 and half years. 00:53:13.86\00:53:15.92 See, that's our next subject tomorrow. 00:53:15.96\00:53:18.93 Don't miss the next exciting episode. 00:53:18.96\00:53:22.06 Tomorrow in our first presentation, 00:53:22.10\00:53:23.77 we are gonna show, listen carefully. 00:53:23.80\00:53:26.50 When you read Daniel 9, it appears to give us 00:53:26.53\00:53:30.71 no concluding event for the 70 weeks. 00:53:30.74\00:53:35.01 We assume that after Messiah's cut off 00:53:35.04\00:53:38.08 in the middle of the week, 00:53:38.11\00:53:39.45 there has to be three and half more weeks, 00:53:39.48\00:53:41.65 because there's 70 weeks. 00:53:41.68\00:53:44.32 But Daniel 9 doesn't appear to give us 00:53:44.35\00:53:46.79 an event that concludes the 70 weeks. 00:53:46.82\00:53:50.46 So you say, how do we know 00:53:50.49\00:53:52.96 that the stoning of Stephen 00:53:52.99\00:53:55.60 closed the prophecy of the 70 weeks? 00:53:55.63\00:53:57.73 How do we know that? 00:53:57.77\00:53:59.53 Is it just an assumption by Adventist? 00:53:59.57\00:54:01.44 Well, you know, they stoned Stephen 00:54:01.47\00:54:04.21 and that closed the theocracy. 00:54:04.24\00:54:06.14 Listen, folks, 00:54:06.17\00:54:07.51 tomorrow I'm gonna show you ironclad evidence 00:54:07.54\00:54:11.18 from scripture that the stoning of Stephen 00:54:11.21\00:54:14.08 was the event that closed the prophecy of the 70 weeks, 00:54:14.12\00:54:19.29 in the year 34 AD, 00:54:19.32\00:54:22.22 specifically in the fall 00:54:22.26\00:54:24.33 of the year 34 AD. 00:54:24.36\00:54:28.63 So this is a magnificent prophecy. 00:54:28.66\00:54:32.03 It gives us the starting point, 457 BC. 00:54:32.07\00:54:36.10 The first seven weeks, 00:54:36.14\00:54:38.21 Jerusalem is rebuild and restored. 00:54:38.24\00:54:41.94 Then 62 weeks later, after the first seven weeks 00:54:41.98\00:54:47.72 the Messiah is anointed, Jesus is baptized. 00:54:47.75\00:54:52.05 Then He confirms the covenant with the Jews 00:54:52.09\00:54:55.92 'cause He was sent to them 00:54:55.96\00:54:57.46 'cause the 70 weeks were given for them. 00:54:57.49\00:54:59.73 He confirms the covenant with many for that last week. 00:54:59.76\00:55:03.97 And in the middle of the week He causes the sacrifice 00:55:04.00\00:55:08.30 and the offering to cease 00:55:08.34\00:55:10.81 because there was no sacrifice or offering that day 00:55:10.84\00:55:13.64 because the true Lamb of God died. 00:55:13.68\00:55:17.51 And then, you have the concluding 00:55:17.55\00:55:21.42 part of this prophecy 00:55:21.45\00:55:24.05 which is the close of the 70 weeks, 00:55:24.09\00:55:28.42 the stoning of Stephen. 00:55:28.46\00:55:31.39 A watershed event we're gonna notice. 00:55:31.43\00:55:35.16 Because listen carefully, 00:55:35.20\00:55:38.33 the door to the Hebrew theocracy 00:55:38.37\00:55:41.00 closed in the year 34. 00:55:41.04\00:55:43.61 The Jewish nation would no longer be God's nation 00:55:43.64\00:55:46.27 to take the gospel to the world 00:55:46.31\00:55:49.14 or for the world to come to them. 00:55:49.18\00:55:51.41 That nation of Israel failed. 00:55:51.45\00:55:54.58 There were faithful people that belong to Israel, 00:55:54.62\00:55:57.59 but the nation as a theocracy fell. 00:55:57.62\00:55:59.69 So God says, now I'm gonna have the Gentiles 00:55:59.72\00:56:03.56 going to all of the world 00:56:03.59\00:56:05.83 and share the gospel with all of the world. 00:56:05.86\00:56:08.63 And here's the interesting point 00:56:08.66\00:56:10.00 and will cover this a little more closely tomorrow. 00:56:10.03\00:56:14.14 Who was present at the stoning of Stephen? 00:56:14.17\00:56:18.17 Saul of Tarsus. 00:56:18.21\00:56:19.67 Interesting, Saul of Tarsus. 00:56:23.81\00:56:26.75 Was Saul of Tarsus converted really 00:56:29.92\00:56:33.79 at the stoning of Stephen? 00:56:33.82\00:56:35.26 Did he feel the pangs of conscience 00:56:35.29\00:56:36.96 at the stoning of Stephen? 00:56:36.99\00:56:38.46 Oh, yeah, he knew that Stephen was right. 00:56:38.49\00:56:41.66 In fact the Bible says that the face of Stephen looked like 00:56:41.70\00:56:43.97 the face of an angel. 00:56:44.00\00:56:47.00 Saul knew that he was wrong and that Stephen was right, 00:56:47.04\00:56:51.21 but he kicked against the pricks. 00:56:51.24\00:56:54.54 So on the road to Damascus, 00:56:54.58\00:56:57.68 he is knocked to the ground 00:56:57.71\00:57:02.28 and Jesus speaks to him, 00:57:02.32\00:57:04.42 "Saul, Saul, why do you prosecute Me?" 00:57:04.45\00:57:07.52 He says, "Who are you, 00:57:07.56\00:57:09.02 so that I know who I'm persecuting?" 00:57:09.06\00:57:10.39 "I'm Jesus of Nazareth whom you are persecuting." 00:57:10.43\00:57:13.63 And here comes the key point. 00:57:13.66\00:57:16.56 At the stoning of the Stephen, 00:57:16.60\00:57:19.20 the plan of God closed for the Jewish nation 00:57:19.23\00:57:22.17 but present there was the apostle 00:57:22.20\00:57:25.31 that would take the gospel to the Gentiles. 00:57:25.34\00:57:30.08 So the door closes for the theocracy 00:57:30.11\00:57:33.58 but the person who is gonna take the gospel 00:57:33.62\00:57:35.92 to the Gentiles and plant the gospel 00:57:35.95\00:57:38.12 all over the world is present there. 00:57:38.15\00:57:42.19 And he's converted to the Lord, 00:57:42.22\00:57:44.39 and thus the gospel will go to every nation, 00:57:44.43\00:57:49.13 kindred, tongue and people planted 00:57:49.16\00:57:52.40 initially by the Apostle Paul 00:57:52.43\00:57:55.40 and then it's spreading 00:57:55.44\00:57:58.74 throughout the entire geographical region 00:57:58.77\00:58:03.58 of the world. 00:58:03.61\00:58:05.31 What a remarkable prophecy. 00:58:05.35\00:58:07.42
