Let us pray. 00:00:11.24\00:00:13.48 Our Father and our God, 00:00:13.51\00:00:15.64 we come before Your awesome throne, 00:00:15.68\00:00:18.48 recognizing our insufficiency, our lack of wisdom, 00:00:18.51\00:00:22.78 that's the reason why we come boldly 00:00:22.82\00:00:24.32 to the throne of grace to ask for wisdom 00:00:24.35\00:00:26.22 as we study this topic. 00:00:26.25\00:00:29.69 Very important topic, 00:00:29.72\00:00:31.83 the role of Israel in Bible prophecy. 00:00:31.86\00:00:34.93 We ask Father that You will give us clear minds 00:00:34.96\00:00:37.07 that we might be able to understand 00:00:37.10\00:00:39.27 what we are going to study. 00:00:39.30\00:00:41.20 Not only us, 00:00:41.24\00:00:42.57 but those who will watch these programs worldwide 00:00:42.60\00:00:45.91 on television broadcast and on social media. 00:00:45.94\00:00:49.14 We thank You, Father, 00:00:49.18\00:00:50.51 for the promise of Your presence 00:00:50.55\00:00:51.88 and we claim that promise 00:00:51.91\00:00:53.25 in the precious name of Jesus, amen. 00:00:53.28\00:00:57.95 In our next three studies together, 00:00:57.99\00:01:01.26 we are going to deal with Israel in Bible Prophecy. 00:01:01.29\00:01:06.93 And the reason why we're taking three sessions 00:01:06.96\00:01:10.23 to talk about Israel in prophecy 00:01:10.27\00:01:13.64 is because futurists believe that God has a special plan 00:01:13.67\00:01:19.37 for literal Israel in the end time. 00:01:19.41\00:01:23.45 In fact, they believe that at the end of the 69th week 00:01:23.48\00:01:27.75 of the 70 weeks of prophecy, 00:01:27.78\00:01:30.05 God suspended His plan for the Jews 00:01:30.09\00:01:32.35 because they rejected Jesus. 00:01:32.39\00:01:34.56 So for the last 2,000 years, 00:01:34.59\00:01:37.73 God's plan for the Jews has been on hold. 00:01:37.76\00:01:41.73 And the plan for the Jews will begin again 00:01:41.76\00:01:45.67 when the church is rapture to heaven, 00:01:45.70\00:01:48.20 and then everything that takes place after that 00:01:48.24\00:01:51.24 is with reference to literal Israel. 00:01:51.27\00:01:54.51 So we need to study carefully who is Israel in the end time? 00:01:54.54\00:02:01.35 Is it literal Israel, 00:02:01.38\00:02:03.52 those who still reject the Messiah 00:02:03.55\00:02:05.59 or is Israel spiritual Israel? 00:02:05.62\00:02:09.92 Well, let's study a review of Israel's history. 00:02:09.96\00:02:16.77 Turn with me to Exodus 19:1-6. 00:02:16.80\00:02:20.47 Exodus 19:1-6. 00:02:20.50\00:02:24.77 Here God descends to Mount Sinai 00:02:24.81\00:02:26.98 and He speaks to Moses about a covenant 00:02:27.01\00:02:31.21 that He wants to make with His people. 00:02:31.25\00:02:33.92 It begins by saying in verse 1, 00:02:33.95\00:02:35.98 "In the third month after the children of Israel 00:02:36.02\00:02:38.15 had gone out from the land of Egypt, 00:02:38.19\00:02:40.62 on the same day, they came to the wilderness of Sinai. 00:02:40.66\00:02:44.13 For they had departed from Raphidim, 00:02:44.16\00:02:46.36 had come to the wilderness of Sinai, 00:02:46.39\00:02:48.26 and camped in the wilderness. 00:02:48.30\00:02:50.40 So Israel camped therefore before the mountain. 00:02:50.43\00:02:54.14 And Moses went up to God 00:02:54.17\00:02:56.94 and the Lord called to him from the mountain, 00:02:56.97\00:02:59.61 saying, Thus you shall say to the house of Israel, 00:02:59.64\00:03:03.48 and tell the children of Israel." 00:03:03.51\00:03:06.48 The house of Jacob 00:03:06.51\00:03:07.85 and tell the children of Israel. 00:03:07.88\00:03:09.58 "You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, 00:03:09.62\00:03:12.95 and how I bore you on eagles' wings 00:03:12.99\00:03:15.59 and brought you to Myself." 00:03:15.62\00:03:17.93 So God says, you saw My glorious 00:03:17.96\00:03:21.00 and powerful acts of redemption of delivering you from Egypt. 00:03:21.03\00:03:25.20 So now God continues saying, in verse 5, 00:03:25.23\00:03:30.51 "Now therefore, if," 00:03:30.54\00:03:34.61 very important word, two letters. 00:03:34.64\00:03:37.15 Why they are important? 00:03:37.18\00:03:38.71 "If you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, 00:03:38.75\00:03:42.78 then you shall be a special treasure to Me 00:03:42.82\00:03:46.12 above all people; for all the earth is Mine. 00:03:46.15\00:03:49.46 And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests 00:03:49.49\00:03:52.99 and a holy nations. 00:03:53.03\00:03:54.46 These are the words 00:03:54.50\00:03:56.00 that you shall speak to the children of Israel." 00:03:56.03\00:04:00.24 So God says, 00:04:00.27\00:04:01.60 "I wanna make a covenant with Israel, Moses." 00:04:01.64\00:04:04.31 I want you to tell Israel 00:04:04.34\00:04:05.84 that I desire to make a covenant, 00:04:05.87\00:04:08.11 because I redeem them, I delivered them, 00:04:08.14\00:04:11.01 I want them to be my people. 00:04:11.05\00:04:13.55 So you go and ask them, 00:04:13.58\00:04:15.28 if they want to form a covenant with Me? 00:04:15.32\00:04:19.12 In Chapter 19:7-8, "We are told, 00:04:19.15\00:04:22.92 so Moses came and called for the elders of the people, 00:04:22.96\00:04:26.83 and laid before them all these words 00:04:26.86\00:04:29.23 which the Lord commanded him." 00:04:29.26\00:04:30.60 So now Moses takes the words to the elders of the people, 00:04:30.63\00:04:33.44 the representatives of the people. 00:04:33.47\00:04:36.44 Then all the people answered together and said, 00:04:36.47\00:04:38.94 "All that the Lord has spoken, we will do." 00:04:38.97\00:04:43.95 That's the covenant. 00:04:43.98\00:04:45.35 God says, "I wanna make a covenant. 00:04:45.38\00:04:47.35 If you will hear My voice, if you obey My covenant, 00:04:47.38\00:04:50.25 you'll be My special people. 00:04:50.29\00:04:51.75 Do you accept?" 00:04:51.79\00:04:53.12 Israel says, "We do." 00:04:53.15\00:04:55.16 This is actually God's marriage with Israel at Mount Sinai. 00:04:55.19\00:05:00.03 And then it says at the end of verse 8, 00:05:00.06\00:05:03.70 "So Moses brought back the words 00:05:03.73\00:05:05.87 of the people to the Lord." 00:05:05.90\00:05:07.44 So Moses says to the Lord, 00:05:07.47\00:05:10.24 "Israel said, yes." 00:05:10.27\00:05:12.14 And so now there is a covenant between God and Israel, 00:05:12.17\00:05:16.18 but it's based on whether Israel will obey God's voice 00:05:16.21\00:05:19.75 and keep His covenant. 00:05:19.78\00:05:21.45 It's a conditional covenant, very clearly. 00:05:21.48\00:05:25.45 Now, the Bible tells us 00:05:25.49\00:05:27.62 that God revealed to Israel a pattern of the sanctuary. 00:05:27.66\00:05:33.46 And the purpose for the sanctuary 00:05:33.50\00:05:35.33 was so that God could dwell among them. 00:05:35.36\00:05:37.57 He said, "And you shall build Me a sanctuary 00:05:37.60\00:05:39.93 and I shall dwell among you." 00:05:39.97\00:05:41.44 Now that we formed a covenant, I wanna dwell with you. 00:05:41.47\00:05:45.37 And so the sanctuary was built. 00:05:45.41\00:05:50.35 And when the sanctuary had been finished, 00:05:50.38\00:05:53.21 when the tent had been finished, 00:05:53.25\00:05:55.85 the Bible tells us that the presence of God 00:05:55.88\00:05:58.29 entered the sanctuary. 00:05:58.32\00:05:59.72 It's known as the Shekhinah. 00:05:59.75\00:06:02.06 In Exodus 40:34, we find these words. 00:06:02.09\00:06:06.56 "Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, 00:06:06.59\00:06:09.76 and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle." 00:06:09.80\00:06:14.10 So now God has formed a covenant with His people. 00:06:14.14\00:06:17.54 God has said, "I want you to be My people, 00:06:17.57\00:06:19.67 My special people. 00:06:19.71\00:06:21.08 If you obey My voice 00:06:21.11\00:06:22.44 and keep My covenant, you will be so. 00:06:22.48\00:06:23.85 Do you accept? 00:06:23.88\00:06:25.21 Israel says, "Yes, we accept." 00:06:25.25\00:06:26.75 So then the sanctuary is built, 00:06:26.78\00:06:28.68 the Shekhinah comes into the sanctuary, 00:06:28.72\00:06:30.85 and God now dwells among His people 00:06:30.89\00:06:34.16 as their God and they are His people. 00:06:34.19\00:06:37.06 Later on, God had Israel 00:06:37.09\00:06:40.83 through Solomon build a more permanent structure. 00:06:40.86\00:06:45.00 You see the sanctuary and the wilderness was a tent. 00:06:45.03\00:06:48.47 But later on when they settled in the Promised Land, 00:06:48.50\00:06:51.34 God told Solomon to build a solid structure, 00:06:51.37\00:06:55.51 a solid temple. 00:06:55.54\00:06:57.45 This temple was finished in the year 960 BC, 00:06:57.48\00:07:02.82 in other words Before Christ. 00:07:02.85\00:07:04.85 And once again, once the sanctuary was finished, 00:07:04.89\00:07:08.26 we're told in 1 Kings 8:10-11, 00:07:08.29\00:07:12.93 that the Shekhinah entered the temple 00:07:12.96\00:07:16.33 that was built by Solomon. 00:07:16.36\00:07:18.17 This is found in 1 Kings 8:10-11. 00:07:18.20\00:07:23.81 "And it came to pass, 00:07:23.84\00:07:25.57 when the priests came out of the holy place, 00:07:25.61\00:07:28.38 that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 00:07:28.41\00:07:31.21 so that the priests could not continue ministering 00:07:31.25\00:07:33.78 because of the cloud; 00:07:33.82\00:07:35.38 for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord." 00:07:35.42\00:07:40.19 So once again, 00:07:40.22\00:07:41.56 when the permanent structure is built, 00:07:41.59\00:07:43.12 God comes to dwell among His people 00:07:43.16\00:07:46.26 as the Shekhinah. 00:07:46.29\00:07:48.70 Sadly, after Mount Sinai, 00:07:48.73\00:07:52.73 the history of Israel was a history of one rebellion 00:07:52.77\00:07:56.74 after another. 00:07:56.77\00:07:58.44 They failed to live up to their end of the covenant 00:07:58.47\00:08:02.54 for close to 800 years, 00:08:02.58\00:08:04.65 between Sinai and the Babylonia captivity. 00:08:04.68\00:08:08.38 In fact, 2 Chronicles 36:14-16. 00:08:08.42\00:08:13.52 2 Chronicles 36:14-16, 00:08:13.56\00:08:17.23 describes this period of rebellion in Israel. 00:08:17.26\00:08:21.46 This is, 00:08:21.50\00:08:24.27 so speaking about God sending messengers to Israel 00:08:24.30\00:08:27.74 to try and get them to come back to Him. 00:08:27.77\00:08:30.61 It says, they're beginning in verse 14, 00:08:30.64\00:08:33.61 "Moreover all the leaders of the priests 00:08:33.64\00:08:36.71 and the people transgressed more and more, 00:08:36.75\00:08:39.51 according to all the abominations 00:08:39.55\00:08:41.72 of the nations." 00:08:41.75\00:08:43.08 Remember, that's the key word. 00:08:43.12\00:08:44.45 Israel is committing the abominations 00:08:44.49\00:08:46.25 of the nations. 00:08:46.29\00:08:47.62 When we deal with the 70 weeks, 00:08:47.66\00:08:48.99 we'll come back to that. 00:08:49.02\00:08:50.36 "And defile the house of the Lord 00:08:50.39\00:08:52.69 which He had consecrated in Jerusalem. 00:08:52.73\00:08:55.43 And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings 00:08:55.46\00:08:57.83 to them by His messengers, 00:08:57.87\00:08:59.50 rising up early and sending them, 00:08:59.53\00:09:02.34 because He had compassion on His people 00:09:02.37\00:09:04.64 and on His dwelling place. 00:09:04.67\00:09:06.54 But they mocked the messengers of God, 00:09:06.57\00:09:08.88 despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, 00:09:08.91\00:09:13.42 until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, 00:09:13.45\00:09:16.48 till there was no remedy." 00:09:16.52\00:09:20.29 That's the history of Israel for a period of 800 years 00:09:20.32\00:09:23.89 after they made a covenant with the Lord at Mount Sinai. 00:09:23.93\00:09:28.76 Ezekiel 16:15, also describes very vividly 00:09:28.80\00:09:33.64 this apostasy of Israel. 00:09:33.67\00:09:35.84 It says, there in Ezekiel 16:15, 00:09:35.87\00:09:38.64 God is speaking to His people, 00:09:38.67\00:09:41.08 that instead of they keeping themselves only for Him 00:09:41.11\00:09:45.01 in the marriage relationship, they had many different lovers. 00:09:45.05\00:09:50.09 It says there, 00:09:50.12\00:09:51.45 "But you trusted in your own beauty, 00:09:51.49\00:09:54.02 played the harlot because of your fame, 00:09:54.06\00:09:57.59 and poured out your harlotry on everyone passing by 00:09:57.63\00:10:02.50 who would have it." 00:10:02.53\00:10:04.43 And so, towards the close of the 800 years of Apostasy, 00:10:04.47\00:10:10.54 God comes from heaven to Jerusalem 00:10:10.57\00:10:14.14 to perform a work of judgment. 00:10:14.18\00:10:18.31 In Ezekiel 1:4, 00:10:18.35\00:10:21.45 we find the description of the coming of God's 00:10:21.48\00:10:23.65 chariot to the sanctuary 00:10:23.69\00:10:25.39 to separate the righteous from the unrighteous in Israel. 00:10:25.42\00:10:30.13 It says there in Ezekiel 1:4, 00:10:30.16\00:10:33.90 "Then I looked, and behold, 00:10:33.93\00:10:35.83 a whirlwind was coming out of the north, 00:10:35.86\00:10:38.33 a great cloud with raging fire engulfing itself; 00:10:38.37\00:10:42.44 and brightness was all around it 00:10:42.47\00:10:44.34 and radiating out of its midst like the color of amber, 00:10:44.37\00:10:48.98 out of the midst of the fire." 00:10:49.01\00:10:50.98 So now God is coming in fire. 00:10:51.01\00:10:53.98 And what He is going to do 00:10:54.02\00:10:55.72 is He's going to do a work of separation 00:10:55.75\00:10:58.45 between those who are faithful in Jerusalem, 00:10:58.49\00:11:00.79 the faithful remnant and those who are not. 00:11:00.82\00:11:03.83 The faithful will be spared 00:11:03.86\00:11:05.69 when Nebuchadnezzar comes to destroy the city, 00:11:05.73\00:11:09.03 whereas the unfaithful will be destroyed. 00:11:09.06\00:11:12.63 That judgment by the way of separation 00:11:12.67\00:11:14.90 of the righteous from the unrighteous 00:11:14.94\00:11:17.24 in Jerusalem is described in Ezekiel 9:1-6. 00:11:17.27\00:11:22.88 Ezekiel 9:1-6. 00:11:22.91\00:11:27.05 "Then He called out in my hearing 00:11:27.08\00:11:28.68 with a loud voice, saying, 00:11:28.72\00:11:30.59 'Let those who have charge over the city draw near, 00:11:30.62\00:11:34.26 each with a deadly weapon in his hand.' 00:11:34.29\00:11:37.56 And suddenly six men 00:11:37.59\00:11:38.99 came from the direction of the upper gate, 00:11:39.03\00:11:41.03 which faces north, 00:11:41.06\00:11:42.70 each with his battle-ax in his hand. 00:11:42.73\00:11:45.67 One man among them was clothed with linen 00:11:45.70\00:11:48.94 and had a writer's inkhorn at his side." 00:11:48.97\00:11:51.67 By the way this is Jesus. 00:11:51.71\00:11:53.58 "They went in and stood beside the bronze altar." 00:11:53.61\00:11:56.41 This is in the court of the sanctuary. 00:11:56.44\00:11:58.78 "Now the glory of the God of Israel had gone up 00:11:58.81\00:12:01.45 from the cherub, where it had been, 00:12:01.48\00:12:03.69 to the threshold of the temple. 00:12:03.72\00:12:05.89 And He called to the man clothed with linen, 00:12:05.92\00:12:08.66 who had the writer's inkhorn at his side; 00:12:08.69\00:12:10.99 and the Lord said to him, 00:12:11.03\00:12:12.69 'Go through the midst of the city, 00:12:12.73\00:12:15.03 through the midst of Jerusalem, 00:12:15.06\00:12:17.50 and put a mark on the foreheads of the men 00:12:17.53\00:12:21.50 who sigh and cry over all the abominations..." 00:12:21.54\00:12:26.01 Remember that word abominations once again. 00:12:26.04\00:12:28.14 "All the abominations that are done in within it." 00:12:28.18\00:12:33.82 So is God gonna put a mark upon those 00:12:33.85\00:12:36.62 who sigh and cry because of the abominations 00:12:36.65\00:12:39.79 that are being committed among God's professed people? 00:12:39.82\00:12:42.89 Absolutely. 00:12:42.92\00:12:44.26 Now what happens when the ceiling is ended? 00:12:44.29\00:12:47.03 When the faithful are all marked in Jerusalem, 00:12:47.06\00:12:49.86 mark for salvation, what happens with the rest? 00:12:49.90\00:12:53.44 Verse 5, 00:12:53.47\00:12:54.80 "To the others He said in my hearing, 00:12:54.84\00:12:57.31 'Go after him through the city and kill; 00:12:57.34\00:13:01.48 do not let your eye spare, nor have any pity.' 00:13:01.51\00:13:05.65 " Utterly... Now remember this terminology. 00:13:05.68\00:13:08.22 "Utterly slay old and young men, 00:13:08.25\00:13:12.15 maidens and little children and women; 00:13:12.19\00:13:16.29 but do not come near anyone on whom is the mark; 00:13:16.32\00:13:20.33 and begin at My sanctuary. 00:13:20.36\00:13:23.16 So they began with the elders who were before the temple." 00:13:23.20\00:13:27.90 So what we find is 800 years of Apostasy of Israel, 00:13:27.94\00:13:32.41 totally disobeying the covenant and disobeying God's voice. 00:13:32.44\00:13:36.08 So God says, 00:13:36.11\00:13:37.55 I am going to destroy Jerusalem, 00:13:37.58\00:13:40.28 I'm going to remove the theocracy 00:13:40.32\00:13:43.32 for a period of 70 years. 00:13:43.35\00:13:45.42 But before He can destroy Jerusalem, 00:13:45.45\00:13:48.02 and take away their political and their religious system 00:13:48.06\00:13:51.49 for 70 years, 00:13:51.53\00:13:52.86 it's necessary to mark those who are faithful, 00:13:52.89\00:13:56.13 who sign and cry because of the abominations 00:13:56.16\00:13:58.80 that are being committed in the city. 00:13:58.83\00:14:01.27 Now before the city was destroyed, 00:14:01.30\00:14:03.87 after the separation had been made, 00:14:03.91\00:14:06.78 the glorious Shekhinah 00:14:06.81\00:14:08.48 that had come into the sanctuary 00:14:08.51\00:14:10.11 when God made a covenant with Israel 00:14:10.15\00:14:12.18 and Israel said, yes, I do, 00:14:12.21\00:14:14.68 now departs the sanctuary. 00:14:14.72\00:14:18.32 It says in Ezekiel 10:19, 00:14:18.35\00:14:21.26 when the work of separation, 00:14:21.29\00:14:23.02 when the judgment of separation is finished, 00:14:23.06\00:14:25.69 it says, "And the cherubim lifted their wings 00:14:25.73\00:14:29.16 and mounted up from the earth in my sight. 00:14:29.20\00:14:32.37 When they went out, the wheels were beside them; 00:14:32.40\00:14:35.20 and they stood at the door 00:14:35.24\00:14:37.31 of the east gate of the Lord's house." 00:14:37.34\00:14:39.67 In other words, the Shekhinah now 00:14:39.71\00:14:41.68 has left the most holy place. 00:14:41.71\00:14:44.05 It has also left the holy place, 00:14:44.08\00:14:46.25 and it is at the East Gate of the sanctuary. 00:14:46.28\00:14:49.45 That's the entrance to the court of the sanctuary, 00:14:49.48\00:14:52.65 because the Shekhinah is now leaving the sanctuary. 00:14:52.69\00:14:55.79 So it says once again, 00:14:55.82\00:14:57.16 "And they stood at the door 00:14:57.19\00:14:58.53 of the east gate of the Lord's house, 00:14:58.56\00:15:00.00 and the glory of the God of Israel was above them." 00:15:00.03\00:15:03.87 And then in Chapter 11 verses 22-23. 00:15:03.90\00:15:07.17 Remember all these details. 00:15:07.20\00:15:08.54 We're gonna come back to them a little bit later on. 00:15:08.57\00:15:10.87 In Ezekiel 11:22-23. 00:15:10.91\00:15:14.21 The Shekhinah left the temple 00:15:14.24\00:15:17.35 and rested upon the Eastern Mountain, the Mount of Olives. 00:15:17.38\00:15:22.78 And before it leaves the Mount of Olives, 00:15:22.82\00:15:25.05 it lingers there for a little while. 00:15:25.09\00:15:28.26 Notice Ezekiel 11:22-23. 00:15:28.29\00:15:32.29 "So the cherubim... 00:15:32.33\00:15:33.66 These are the ones that are bearing God's chariot 00:15:33.70\00:15:37.23 that came for the judgment to the sanctuary. 00:15:37.27\00:15:39.43 "So the cherubim lifted up their wings, 00:15:39.47\00:15:42.20 with the wheels beside them, 00:15:42.24\00:15:44.11 and the glory of the God of Israel was high above them. 00:15:44.14\00:15:47.81 And the glory of the Lord went up 00:15:47.84\00:15:50.45 from the midst of the city and stood on the mountain, 00:15:50.48\00:15:54.48 which is on the east side of the city." 00:15:54.52\00:15:57.49 What is the mountain there is, 00:15:57.52\00:15:58.95 on the east side of the city of Jerusalem? 00:15:58.99\00:16:01.82 The Mount of Olives. 00:16:01.86\00:16:04.33 And so the glorious Shekhinah now abandons the temple 00:16:04.36\00:16:08.16 and it rests upon the Mount of Olives 00:16:08.20\00:16:11.07 and lingers there for a moment. 00:16:11.10\00:16:14.57 But then the Shekhinah leaves the Mount of Olives. 00:16:14.60\00:16:19.01 And the city has been forsaken. 00:16:19.04\00:16:23.88 It no longer has any protection. 00:16:23.91\00:16:27.05 And now Nebuchadnezzar comes and he destroys the city. 00:16:27.08\00:16:31.09 He destroys the religious system, 00:16:31.12\00:16:33.15 their political system, 00:16:33.19\00:16:34.92 and he destroys the city, 00:16:34.96\00:16:36.46 he destroys the walls and he destroys the sanctuary. 00:16:36.49\00:16:40.40 This is described in 2 Chronicles 36:17-21. 00:16:40.43\00:16:45.77 2 Chronicles 36:17-21. 00:16:45.80\00:16:50.21 You see, their abominations 00:16:50.24\00:16:52.81 have led to the desolation of the city. 00:16:52.84\00:16:55.51 Remember that. 00:16:55.54\00:16:56.88 Have you ever read in the Bible, 00:16:56.91\00:16:58.25 the abomination of desolation? 00:16:58.28\00:17:00.92 You have that here. 00:17:00.95\00:17:02.62 Because of the abominations of Israel, 00:17:02.65\00:17:06.09 God is gonna cause them to be desolated. 00:17:06.12\00:17:09.42 He's gonna withdraw their governance, 00:17:09.46\00:17:12.09 He is going to withdraw the religious system 00:17:12.13\00:17:14.90 and He's going to use Nebuchadnezzar 00:17:14.93\00:17:17.27 to destroy the city, 00:17:17.30\00:17:18.67 the walls and the sanctuary 00:17:18.70\00:17:20.60 and they're gonna be taken captive for 70 years. 00:17:20.64\00:17:22.94 It says in 2 Chronicles 36:17. 00:17:22.97\00:17:26.68 "Therefore He brought against them the king of the Chaldeans, 00:17:26.71\00:17:30.31 who killed their young men..." 00:17:30.35\00:17:32.35 Remember these words that were used, 00:17:32.38\00:17:34.35 that we read just a little while ago. 00:17:34.38\00:17:36.45 "Therefore He brought against them the king of the Chaldeans, 00:17:36.48\00:17:38.95 who killed their young men 00:17:38.99\00:17:40.52 with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, 00:17:40.56\00:17:42.66 and had no compassion on... whom?" 00:17:42.69\00:17:44.76 "On young man or virgin, 00:17:44.79\00:17:47.56 on the aged or the weak; 00:17:47.60\00:17:51.07 He gave them all into his hand. 00:17:51.10\00:17:53.30 And all the articles from the house of God, 00:17:53.34\00:17:55.67 great and small, 00:17:55.70\00:17:57.04 the treasures of the house of the Lord, 00:17:57.07\00:17:58.57 and the treasures of the king and of his leaders, 00:17:58.61\00:18:00.98 all these he took to Babylon. 00:18:01.01\00:18:03.28 Then they burned the house of God, 00:18:03.31\00:18:05.18 broke down the wall of Jerusalem, 00:18:05.21\00:18:07.42 burned all its palaces with fire, 00:18:07.45\00:18:09.52 and destroyed all its precious possessions. 00:18:09.55\00:18:12.39 And those who escaped from the sword 00:18:12.42\00:18:14.92 he carried away to Babylon, 00:18:14.96\00:18:16.69 where they became servants to him 00:18:16.73\00:18:19.06 and his sons..." 00:18:19.09\00:18:22.83 Now, was this a permanent arrangement 00:18:22.86\00:18:25.20 or was God going to restore the covenant with Israel? 00:18:25.23\00:18:30.41 Let's finish reading here. 00:18:30.44\00:18:32.21 Once again, it says, beginning of verse 20. 00:18:32.24\00:18:35.91 "And those who escaped from the sword 00:18:35.94\00:18:37.85 he carried away to Babylon, 00:18:37.88\00:18:39.45 where they became servants to him and his sons 00:18:39.48\00:18:42.62 until the rule of the kingdom of Persia." 00:18:42.65\00:18:48.69 Was there a limit to their desolation? 00:18:48.72\00:18:51.73 Yes. 00:18:51.76\00:18:53.09 "To fulfill the word of the Lord 00:18:53.13\00:18:55.16 by the mouth of Jeremiah, 00:18:55.20\00:18:57.03 until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths. 00:18:57.07\00:18:59.90 As long as she lay desolate 00:18:59.93\00:19:01.97 she kept Sabbath, to fulfill..." what? 00:19:02.00\00:19:05.77 "To fulfill 70 years." 00:19:05.81\00:19:10.25 This is the first stage of Israel's history. 00:19:10.28\00:19:15.98 The first stage is the stage 00:19:16.02\00:19:18.72 where God makes the covenant with Israel. 00:19:18.75\00:19:21.06 They say to the Lord, we do, 00:19:21.09\00:19:24.73 800 years of Apostasy. 00:19:24.76\00:19:27.63 The Shekhinah that came into the sanctuary, 00:19:27.66\00:19:30.30 when the covenant was ratified, now departs from the sanctuary, 00:19:30.33\00:19:36.20 lingers on the Mount of Olives, then goes off to heaven. 00:19:36.24\00:19:40.81 The city now will be made desolate 00:19:40.84\00:19:43.78 because the presence of God is no longer in the sanctuary, 00:19:43.81\00:19:48.02 the presence of God is no longer in the temple. 00:19:48.05\00:19:51.02 But God has said, after the 70 years, 00:19:51.05\00:19:54.86 I will give Israel another chance, 00:19:54.89\00:19:59.36 which will be the second stage of Israel's history. 00:19:59.39\00:20:03.53 Notice 2 Chronicles 36:22-23, 00:20:03.57\00:20:07.57 where you find the second stage of Israel's history. 00:20:07.60\00:20:11.44 It says there in 2 Chronicles 36:22-23. 00:20:11.47\00:20:15.78 "Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, 00:20:15.81\00:20:20.12 that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah 00:20:20.15\00:20:22.75 might be fulfilled, 00:20:22.78\00:20:24.65 the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, 00:20:24.69\00:20:28.76 so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, 00:20:28.79\00:20:32.36 and also put it in writing, saying, 00:20:32.39\00:20:35.00 Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: 00:20:35.03\00:20:37.73 All the kingdoms of the earth 00:20:37.77\00:20:39.47 the Lord God of heaven has given me." 00:20:39.50\00:20:42.30 In addition, "He has commanded me 00:20:42.34\00:20:44.81 to build Him a house at Jerusalem 00:20:44.84\00:20:47.88 which is in Judah. 00:20:47.91\00:20:49.41 Who will among you... 00:20:49.44\00:20:50.85 who is among you of all His people? 00:20:50.88\00:20:54.22 May the Lord his God be with him, 00:20:54.25\00:20:56.62 and let him go up!" 00:20:56.65\00:21:00.46 Now the sanctuary is gonna be revealed. 00:21:00.49\00:21:03.59 And God is going once again to come to dwell 00:21:03.63\00:21:07.33 with his people 00:21:07.36\00:21:08.70 after the 70 years of captivity. 00:21:08.73\00:21:12.47 So they build a temple. 00:21:12.50\00:21:16.77 And when the temple is built, 00:21:16.81\00:21:19.71 the people see the temple and they cry, 00:21:19.74\00:21:22.18 especially the old guys who had seen the temple 00:21:22.21\00:21:25.71 that Nebuchadnezzar destroyed, 00:21:25.75\00:21:27.08 the temple that was built by Solomon. 00:21:27.12\00:21:29.72 Haggai 2:2-3, 00:21:29.75\00:21:32.35 tells us what the reaction of the people was. 00:21:32.39\00:21:35.16 It says there, "'Speak now 00:21:35.19\00:21:37.16 to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, 00:21:37.19\00:21:40.50 governor of Judah, 00:21:40.53\00:21:41.86 and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, 00:21:41.90\00:21:44.47 the high priest, 00:21:44.50\00:21:45.83 and to the remnant of the people, saying: 00:21:45.87\00:21:48.74 'Who is left among you who saw this temple 00:21:48.77\00:21:52.07 in its former glory?' 00:21:52.11\00:21:55.21 "Who is still alive that saw this temple 00:21:55.24\00:21:58.01 as it was built by Solomon. 00:21:58.05\00:22:01.45 And then it says, "And how do you see it now? 00:22:01.48\00:22:05.42 In comparison with it, 00:22:05.45\00:22:07.29 is this not in your eyes as nothing?" 00:22:07.32\00:22:11.99 In other words, this temple is nothing 00:22:12.03\00:22:14.20 compared to the temple that Solomon built. 00:22:14.23\00:22:17.47 And it says that the elders cried 00:22:17.50\00:22:19.33 when they saw this temple, 00:22:19.37\00:22:20.80 the individuals who were old enough 00:22:20.84\00:22:22.70 to have seen the first temple. 00:22:22.74\00:22:25.07 And yet God made a prediction, 00:22:25.11\00:22:28.14 a prediction that the Jews are still today 00:22:28.18\00:22:30.58 trying to understand. 00:22:30.61\00:22:32.95 Haggai 2:6-9. 00:22:32.98\00:22:37.09 Haggai 2:6-9, 00:22:37.12\00:22:40.29 after saying that the people saw the temple and they cried, 00:22:40.32\00:22:43.63 those who had seen the first temple, 00:22:43.66\00:22:45.89 oh, now we find in Haggai 2:6, 00:22:45.93\00:22:50.80 a promise that God makes. 00:22:50.83\00:22:52.73 "Thus... 00:22:52.77\00:22:54.37 For thus says the Lord of hosts: 00:22:54.40\00:22:56.84 'Once more, it is a little while, 00:22:56.87\00:23:00.28 I will shake heaven and earth, 00:23:00.31\00:23:02.68 the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, 00:23:02.71\00:23:07.62 and they shall come to...' 00:23:07.65\00:23:12.25 " whom? 00:23:12.29\00:23:13.76 "The Desire of All Nations," 00:23:13.79\00:23:17.13 or the Desire of Ages if you please. 00:23:17.16\00:23:20.10 And then he says, 00:23:20.13\00:23:21.76 "And I will fill this temple with glory, 00:23:21.80\00:23:25.37 says the Lord of hosts. 00:23:25.40\00:23:27.20 The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine, 00:23:27.24\00:23:29.70 says the Lord of hosts. 00:23:29.74\00:23:31.07 The glory of this latter temple 00:23:31.11\00:23:32.81 shall be greater than the former, 00:23:32.84\00:23:35.08 says the Lord of hosts. 00:23:35.11\00:23:36.44 And in this place I will give peace, 00:23:36.48\00:23:38.38 says the Lord of hosts." 00:23:38.41\00:23:39.75 The fact is the temple that was built 00:23:42.45\00:23:44.05 after the captivity never reached the level of glory 00:23:44.09\00:23:48.32 of the temple that was built by Solomon. 00:23:48.36\00:23:51.06 And that second temple was destroyed by the Romans. 00:23:51.09\00:23:55.33 So what does this promise mean? 00:23:55.36\00:23:57.70 That this temple that was built after the captivity 00:23:57.73\00:24:00.40 would be more glorious than Solomon's temple. 00:24:00.44\00:24:04.64 Probably not, should call it Solomon's temple. 00:24:04.67\00:24:06.74 It's the temple built by Solomon 00:24:06.78\00:24:08.21 because it's the Lord's temple. 00:24:08.24\00:24:11.48 Now we come to the third stage of Israel's history. 00:24:11.51\00:24:16.82 You see, the second stage of Israel's history 00:24:16.85\00:24:19.85 is the stage that takes place after the captivity. 00:24:19.89\00:24:24.93 By the way, did God sent many messengers to Israel 00:24:24.96\00:24:27.96 to help them in the rebuilding of the city, 00:24:28.00\00:24:30.20 the walls of the sanctuary and so on? 00:24:30.23\00:24:32.47 Let me just mention some of those messengers. 00:24:32.50\00:24:35.10 During the 70 weeks, 00:24:35.14\00:24:36.47 the second period is 70 weeks, okay? 00:24:36.50\00:24:39.47 God says, 70 weeks are determined 00:24:39.51\00:24:41.74 upon My people and their city. 00:24:41.78\00:24:44.61 So now God is saying, 00:24:44.65\00:24:45.98 the first 800 years were a failure, 00:24:46.01\00:24:49.38 but now they brought... 00:24:49.42\00:24:51.02 I brought them back from the captivity, 00:24:51.05\00:24:52.52 they're gonna rebuild the temple, 00:24:52.55\00:24:53.89 the city and the walls, 00:24:53.92\00:24:55.26 and I'm gonna give them another chance. 00:24:55.29\00:24:56.62 I'm going to give them 70 weeks. 00:24:56.66\00:24:59.23 And during that period God sends them 00:24:59.26\00:25:01.16 all kinds of messengers. 00:25:01.20\00:25:03.33 He sends them Haggai, Zechariah, 00:25:03.37\00:25:06.70 Joshua, Zorababel, Ezra, 00:25:06.74\00:25:10.31 Nehemiah, Malachi, 00:25:10.34\00:25:12.91 and finally, John the Baptist. 00:25:12.94\00:25:18.55 How did the people respond during this period? 00:25:18.58\00:25:21.95 Were they faithful? 00:25:21.98\00:25:23.99 No, they were not faithful. 00:25:24.02\00:25:27.06 The Bible tells us 00:25:27.09\00:25:28.52 that they behaved in a similar way 00:25:28.56\00:25:31.96 that they had behaved before, they were cured of idolatry. 00:25:31.99\00:25:35.80 But that separated themselves from the nations, 00:25:35.83\00:25:38.70 they became legalistic. 00:25:38.73\00:25:40.70 They expected a glorious Messiah 00:25:40.74\00:25:43.44 that would destroy the Romans 00:25:43.47\00:25:45.47 and put the Jews at the apex of civilization. 00:25:45.51\00:25:49.14 That's what they expected. 00:25:49.18\00:25:51.08 During the second period, they totally missed the point. 00:25:51.11\00:25:55.52 So now we go to the third stage. 00:25:55.55\00:25:59.95 During the third stage is when the Messiah comes, 00:25:59.99\00:26:03.06 when Jesus comes to this earth. 00:26:03.09\00:26:06.46 Now we're going to understand 00:26:06.49\00:26:08.40 how this second temple 00:26:08.43\00:26:10.97 was more glorious than the first temple. 00:26:11.00\00:26:13.60 Not in its physical structure, 00:26:13.64\00:26:17.17 not in the gold and silver 00:26:17.21\00:26:19.04 and precious wood and precious stones 00:26:19.07\00:26:21.28 that it contain. 00:26:21.31\00:26:22.94 But the fact that the temple after the captivity 00:26:22.98\00:26:26.88 did not have the Shekhinah glory 00:26:26.92\00:26:31.62 that is right after it was built. 00:26:31.65\00:26:34.26 But the Shekhinah glory came into that temple 00:26:34.29\00:26:37.19 when Jesus came to this earth. 00:26:37.23\00:26:39.43 That's what made it more glorious. 00:26:39.46\00:26:41.80 Notice John 1:14, 00:26:41.83\00:26:45.30 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, 00:26:45.33\00:26:51.11 and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only 00:26:51.14\00:26:55.71 begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." 00:26:55.74\00:26:59.38 We beheld what? 00:26:59.41\00:27:00.92 His glory. 00:27:00.95\00:27:02.48 Jesus is the Shekhinah. 00:27:02.52\00:27:06.05 Now we can understand the reason why, 00:27:06.09\00:27:08.66 in Luke 12:27-28. 00:27:08.69\00:27:12.76 You know, the Jews, they bragged about the temple 00:27:12.79\00:27:17.83 that was built by Solomon, 00:27:17.87\00:27:19.23 how wonderful and beautiful it was. 00:27:19.27\00:27:21.90 But Jesus said this, 00:27:21.94\00:27:23.54 "Consider the lilies, how they grow: 00:27:23.57\00:27:26.64 they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, 00:27:26.68\00:27:30.55 even Solomon in all his glory 00:27:30.58\00:27:33.35 was not arrayed like one of these." 00:27:33.38\00:27:35.58 In fact, in the parallel passage 00:27:35.62\00:27:38.05 that we find in Matthew 12:42, 00:27:38.09\00:27:40.96 something is added in the Gospel of Matthew. 00:27:40.99\00:27:43.22 Jesus says... 00:27:43.26\00:27:44.59 After He says that, 00:27:44.63\00:27:45.96 "Even Solomon and all his glory 00:27:45.99\00:27:47.33 was not arrayed like one of these." 00:27:47.36\00:27:49.00 Jesus then says, 00:27:49.03\00:27:50.37 "And one greater than Solomon is here." 00:27:50.40\00:27:54.57 Jesus is the greater glory that filled that temple. 00:27:54.60\00:27:58.31 Did Jesus teach in that temple? 00:27:58.34\00:28:01.24 Did Jesus teach in the temple courts 00:28:01.28\00:28:03.48 that was built after the captivity? 00:28:03.51\00:28:05.11 Absolutely, He taught there. 00:28:05.15\00:28:08.88 Now, during His ministry, 00:28:08.92\00:28:10.25 Jesus taught in those temple courts, 00:28:10.29\00:28:12.15 He was the Shekhinah 00:28:12.19\00:28:13.86 that came into the courts and taught. 00:28:13.89\00:28:16.59 And what did the religious leaders do? 00:28:16.62\00:28:18.99 They did what they did at every other stage. 00:28:19.03\00:28:21.70 They were rebellious to the Lord. 00:28:21.73\00:28:24.47 They fought Jesus tooth and nail. 00:28:24.50\00:28:27.90 And this was the last opportunity. 00:28:27.94\00:28:30.04 This was the third stage of Israel's history. 00:28:30.07\00:28:33.17 First stage, 800 years of rebellion. 00:28:33.21\00:28:36.31 God says, I'm gonna give you a second chance. 00:28:36.34\00:28:39.31 And so He says, 70 weeks are determined 00:28:39.35\00:28:42.05 for the city and for the people. 00:28:42.08\00:28:44.92 And during that time, 00:28:44.95\00:28:46.65 they totally misunderstand Bible prophecy, 00:28:46.69\00:28:49.22 they become legalistic, 00:28:49.26\00:28:50.69 they separate from the nations, 00:28:50.73\00:28:52.56 so God says at last of all, I'm gonna send My Son. 00:28:52.59\00:28:56.06 I'm gonna send the Shekhinah into the temple to teach. 00:28:56.10\00:29:00.57 And they opposed Jesus just like they did 00:29:00.60\00:29:03.14 in the previous two stages. 00:29:03.17\00:29:06.04 Now it's interesting 00:29:06.07\00:29:07.41 at the end of Christ's ministry, 00:29:07.44\00:29:11.21 Jesus descended the slope of the Mount of Olives 00:29:11.25\00:29:14.28 to enter the temple for the last time. 00:29:14.32\00:29:18.09 The Shekhinah will now enter the temple for the last time, 00:29:18.12\00:29:21.22 just like in the story of Ezekiel 00:29:21.26\00:29:24.29 that we studied. 00:29:24.33\00:29:26.06 Luke 19:37-38, tells us this. 00:29:26.09\00:29:29.86 "Then, 00:29:29.90\00:29:31.60 as He was now drawing 00:29:31.63\00:29:33.60 near the descent of the Mount of Olives, 00:29:33.64\00:29:36.60 the whole multitude of the disciples began 00:29:36.64\00:29:38.94 to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice 00:29:38.97\00:29:42.11 for all the mighty works they had seen, 00:29:42.14\00:29:44.71 saying: Blessed is the King 00:29:44.75\00:29:48.62 who comes in the name of the Lord! 00:29:48.65\00:29:51.79 Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" 00:29:51.82\00:29:54.82 Do you remember that 00:29:54.86\00:29:56.22 when the second house was built, 00:29:56.26\00:29:57.73 it says I will bring peace to this place? 00:29:57.76\00:30:00.70 So now Jesus is descending 00:30:00.73\00:30:02.53 the slope of the Mount of Olives 00:30:02.56\00:30:03.90 to enter the temple for the last time. 00:30:03.93\00:30:07.00 And the people are saying, "Blessed is the king 00:30:07.04\00:30:09.77 who comes in the name of the Lord! 00:30:09.80\00:30:11.74 Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" 00:30:11.77\00:30:15.04 And then Jesus enters the temple, 00:30:15.08\00:30:18.68 and begins to teach. 00:30:18.71\00:30:22.08 Now, the interesting thing 00:30:22.12\00:30:23.45 is that immediately after Jesus enter the temple, 00:30:23.49\00:30:26.22 notice the reaction of the religious leaders, 00:30:26.25\00:30:28.92 versus 47 and 48. 00:30:28.96\00:30:31.49 "And He was teaching daily in the temple. 00:30:31.53\00:30:34.10 But the chief priests, the scribes, 00:30:34.13\00:30:36.97 and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him, 00:30:37.00\00:30:41.74 and were unable to do anything; 00:30:41.77\00:30:43.54 for all the people were very attentive 00:30:43.57\00:30:45.81 to hear Him." 00:30:45.84\00:30:47.98 So how is the leadership of Israel dealing with Jesus, 00:30:48.01\00:30:51.95 with this last opportunity? 00:30:51.98\00:30:53.85 And last of all, God sends his Son. 00:30:53.88\00:30:56.48 Are they accepting the message? 00:30:56.52\00:30:58.59 They're rejecting the message. 00:30:58.62\00:31:01.49 And so now Jesus, 00:31:01.52\00:31:03.89 after He descends the slope of the Mount of Olives, 00:31:03.93\00:31:08.03 He enters the temple. 00:31:08.06\00:31:10.03 Let's read about it in Matthew 21:12-13. 00:31:10.07\00:31:13.03 Remember, He's the Shekhinah now 00:31:13.07\00:31:14.57 that's entering the temple. 00:31:14.60\00:31:16.37 Matthew 21:12-13. 00:31:16.40\00:31:20.24 "Then Jesus went into the temple of God." 00:31:20.28\00:31:22.94 I want you to notice what the temple is called 00:31:22.98\00:31:24.71 when Jesus goes in, at the end of His ministry. 00:31:24.75\00:31:28.32 "He goes into the temple of God 00:31:28.35\00:31:31.05 and drove out all those who bought 00:31:31.09\00:31:33.66 and sold in the temple, 00:31:33.69\00:31:35.82 and overturned the tables of the money changers 00:31:35.86\00:31:38.33 and the seats of those who sold doves. 00:31:38.36\00:31:41.13 And He said to them, It is written..." 00:31:41.16\00:31:42.60 Now notice how He refers to the temple. 00:31:42.63\00:31:44.87 "'My house shall be called a house of prayer, 00:31:44.90\00:31:48.47 but you have made it a den of thieves.' 00:31:48.50\00:31:53.58 " So Jesus goes into the temple. 00:31:53.61\00:31:56.28 It's called the temple of God 00:31:56.31\00:31:58.91 and Jesus refers to the temple at that moment 00:31:58.95\00:32:01.28 when He goes into it as "My house." 00:32:01.32\00:32:06.25 And then in Chapter 21: 22-23, 00:32:06.29\00:32:09.72 Jesus is in the temple teaching. 00:32:09.76\00:32:12.99 And the religious leaders, 00:32:13.03\00:32:14.36 the different religious sects come 00:32:14.40\00:32:16.43 and they're questioning Jesus and they're opposing Jesus 00:32:16.46\00:32:19.17 tooth and nail, in every point. 00:32:19.20\00:32:22.90 And Jesus tells several parables to them. 00:32:22.94\00:32:26.44 One of those parables is the parable of the fig tree. 00:32:26.47\00:32:31.15 Very interesting. 00:32:31.18\00:32:33.31 You know, Jesus sees this fig tree in the distance. 00:32:33.35\00:32:37.55 And He says, "Now let's go 00:32:37.59\00:32:38.95 and see if we can get something to eat." 00:32:38.99\00:32:41.82 This is act of parable. 00:32:41.86\00:32:44.53 And so He goes and He finds nothing 00:32:44.56\00:32:46.29 on the fig tree except for leaves. 00:32:46.33\00:32:48.96 And He curses the fig tree. 00:32:49.00\00:32:51.30 And He says, never 00:32:51.33\00:32:53.34 may you produce fruit ever again. 00:32:53.37\00:32:56.34 And the Jews knew 00:32:56.37\00:32:57.71 that the fig tree represented Israel. 00:32:57.74\00:33:00.51 The next day it says that they pass by, 00:33:00.54\00:33:03.68 and they saw that the fig tree had dried up by its roots. 00:33:03.71\00:33:09.92 And it represents Israel. 00:33:09.95\00:33:12.85 That was an act of parable. 00:33:12.89\00:33:16.42 Jesus also told the parable of the vineyard workers. 00:33:16.46\00:33:20.73 Let's go to Matthew 21:33-43. 00:33:20.76\00:33:25.37 And we'll interpret this parable as we go along. 00:33:25.40\00:33:29.20 You'll find the three stages here of Israel's history 00:33:29.24\00:33:32.31 that we studied so far. 00:33:32.34\00:33:35.28 Matthew 21:33, "Hear another parable: 00:33:35.31\00:33:39.88 There was a certain landowner..." 00:33:39.91\00:33:41.45 that's called the Father, "who planted a vineyard..." 00:33:41.48\00:33:45.45 that's a city of Jerusalem, 00:33:45.49\00:33:47.69 "and set a hedge around it," 00:33:47.72\00:33:50.49 that's the law, 00:33:50.53\00:33:52.33 "dug a winepress in it and built a tower." 00:33:52.36\00:33:55.40 That's the temple. 00:33:55.43\00:33:57.27 "And he leased it to the vinedressers..." 00:33:57.30\00:33:59.07 that's Israel, "and went into a far country." 00:33:59.10\00:34:03.61 "Now when vintage-time drew near, 00:34:03.64\00:34:06.14 He sent his servants..." 00:34:06.17\00:34:09.01 this is their first chance, "He sent His servants..." 00:34:09.04\00:34:13.78 What for? 00:34:13.82\00:34:15.35 "To the vinedressers, 00:34:15.38\00:34:16.72 that they might receive its fruit. 00:34:16.75\00:34:19.15 And the vinedressers took his servants, 00:34:19.19\00:34:20.96 beat one, killed one, and stoned another." 00:34:20.99\00:34:24.63 So what do they do with the first call? 00:34:24.66\00:34:27.36 They rejected. 00:34:27.40\00:34:29.70 Verse 36. 00:34:29.73\00:34:31.43 "Again He sent other servants," this is the second chance. 00:34:31.47\00:34:35.20 Who were the other servants? 00:34:35.24\00:34:37.51 Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi, John the Baptist, etcetera. 00:34:37.54\00:34:41.34 God is giving them another chance. 00:34:41.38\00:34:43.91 And it says, "He sents more than the first 00:34:43.95\00:34:45.85 and they did likewise to them." 00:34:45.88\00:34:48.38 That's the second opportunity. 00:34:48.42\00:34:52.65 And last of all, 00:34:52.69\00:34:55.46 they being, stage number three. 00:34:55.49\00:34:57.03 "And last of all 00:34:57.06\00:34:59.53 He sent His Son to them, saying," 00:34:59.56\00:35:02.23 who is the Son? 00:35:02.26\00:35:04.23 Jesus. 00:35:04.27\00:35:06.23 "He sent His son to them saying, 00:35:06.27\00:35:07.87 "They will respect my Son." 00:35:07.90\00:35:10.11 "But when the vinedressers saw the Son, 00:35:10.14\00:35:11.97 they said among themselves, 'This is the heir. 00:35:12.01\00:35:14.31 Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.' 00:35:14.34\00:35:18.18 So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard..." 00:35:18.21\00:35:21.25 Did Jesus die outside Jerusalem? 00:35:21.28\00:35:23.62 Yes, "they cast him outside the vineyard and killed Him." 00:35:23.65\00:35:26.82 How did they respond to the third call? 00:35:30.26\00:35:32.19 The last one, the last of all? 00:35:32.23\00:35:35.16 They rejected the Son. 00:35:35.20\00:35:37.63 Now let's continue. 00:35:37.67\00:35:40.30 They still haven't... 00:35:40.34\00:35:41.67 they still haven't understood who Jesus is referring to. 00:35:41.70\00:35:45.07 In verse 40, "Therefore... 00:35:45.11\00:35:48.14 Jesus asked the question, 00:35:48.18\00:35:49.51 "When the owner of the vineyard comes, 00:35:49.54\00:35:51.01 what will he do to those vinedressers? 00:35:51.05\00:35:55.12 They said to Him, 00:35:55.15\00:35:56.48 'He will destroy those wicked men miserably, 00:35:56.52\00:35:59.79 and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers 00:35:59.82\00:36:03.26 who will render to him the fruits in their seasons." 00:36:03.29\00:36:07.90 Are you getting the picture? 00:36:07.93\00:36:10.37 Verse 42, 00:36:10.40\00:36:12.30 "Jesus said to them, 00:36:12.33\00:36:13.67 have you never read in the Scriptures. 00:36:13.70\00:36:15.30 The stone which the stone 00:36:15.34\00:36:17.54 which the builders rejected 00:36:17.57\00:36:19.11 has become the chief cornerstone. 00:36:19.14\00:36:20.84 This was the Lord's doing, 00:36:20.88\00:36:22.34 and it is marvelous in our eyes?" 00:36:22.38\00:36:24.85 And then he says, "Therefore I say to you, 00:36:24.88\00:36:28.42 the kingdom of God will be taken from you 00:36:28.45\00:36:32.35 and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it." 00:36:32.39\00:36:36.42 Who is that nation that the kingdom was given to? 00:36:36.46\00:36:40.06 It was given to the Gentiles. 00:36:40.10\00:36:45.07 Now, Jesus also told another parable, 00:36:45.10\00:36:48.80 which we're not gonna have time to take a look at. 00:36:48.84\00:36:51.91 It's a parable that's found in Matthew 22: 1-14. 00:36:51.94\00:36:54.64 And remember, these are parables 00:36:54.68\00:36:56.11 that Jesus is telling in the temple. 00:36:56.14\00:36:57.71 He's making this last call to Israel, in the temple. 00:36:57.75\00:37:01.82 He's the Shekhinah. 00:37:01.85\00:37:03.18 He's saying, live up to the covenant folks. 00:37:03.22\00:37:05.65 I am the one who was promised to come and redeem Israel. 00:37:05.69\00:37:10.76 He's doing His best in the sanctuary 00:37:10.79\00:37:12.96 as the Shekhinah to get Israel to follow Him. 00:37:12.99\00:37:18.13 Matthew Chapter 22 has the same three stages. 00:37:18.17\00:37:23.67 Only it goes beyond the three stages. 00:37:23.71\00:37:26.01 Matthew 22 is the parable of the great banquet. 00:37:26.04\00:37:29.18 And I'll just synthesize so you'll understand. 00:37:29.21\00:37:33.62 Messengers are sent to Israel, to invite them to the wedding. 00:37:33.65\00:37:40.22 By the way, the wedding is the covenant, right? 00:37:40.26\00:37:43.46 So which speak about the wedding covenant? 00:37:43.49\00:37:46.03 Incidentally, in Jeremiah 31:32. 00:37:46.06\00:37:51.53 It says, that at Sinai, God married Israel. 00:37:51.57\00:37:55.90 It was a marriage covenant. 00:37:55.94\00:37:57.71 God said, "I wanna marry you and Israel said, we do." 00:37:57.74\00:38:02.54 That's what it was. 00:38:02.58\00:38:04.51 And so in Matthew 22, 00:38:04.55\00:38:06.61 there's this call for the invitees 00:38:06.65\00:38:10.89 to come to the wedding. 00:38:10.92\00:38:13.32 And you can read there, 00:38:13.36\00:38:14.99 they killed the messengers that invites them. 00:38:15.02\00:38:18.03 So more messengers are sent 00:38:18.06\00:38:21.70 after the bulls are killed, 00:38:21.73\00:38:25.17 which represents the death of Christ. 00:38:25.20\00:38:27.77 And they do likewise to them. 00:38:27.80\00:38:30.94 And so then in this parable, Jesus says, 00:38:30.97\00:38:35.38 "So now what's gonna happen? 00:38:35.41\00:38:37.35 Go to the highways and the byways 00:38:37.38\00:38:40.02 and invite them to come in." 00:38:40.05\00:38:42.52 You see the first two invitations 00:38:42.55\00:38:43.89 are given to the Jews. 00:38:43.92\00:38:45.79 They rejected both. 00:38:45.82\00:38:47.62 So the third invitation 00:38:47.66\00:38:49.36 after the death of Christ is go to the highways 00:38:49.39\00:38:51.56 and the byways and invite them to come in. 00:38:51.59\00:38:53.86 That's the whole period of the Christian dispensation. 00:38:53.90\00:38:56.50 That's the whole period where we've been preaching 00:38:56.53\00:38:59.27 during the last 2,000 years. 00:38:59.30\00:39:03.44 And then of course, 00:39:03.47\00:39:04.81 the place is filled with guests. 00:39:04.84\00:39:06.91 And then you have the examination of the guests 00:39:06.94\00:39:08.61 which I won't go into. 00:39:08.64\00:39:09.98 But in this parable, you have the three stages. 00:39:10.01\00:39:12.95 The interesting thing is that after the first messengers 00:39:12.98\00:39:16.05 are sent to call Israel to the wedding, 00:39:16.08\00:39:19.49 and they kill those messengers, 00:39:19.52\00:39:21.36 then after the death of the animals, 00:39:21.39\00:39:23.09 the sacrificial animals, that's the death of Christ, 00:39:23.12\00:39:25.89 more messengers are sent, 00:39:25.93\00:39:27.50 because after that Peter and John and others 00:39:27.53\00:39:29.66 are sent to the Jews, 00:39:29.70\00:39:31.03 because the 70 weeks haven't come to an end. 00:39:31.07\00:39:33.34 They do the same to them, including stoning Stephen. 00:39:33.37\00:39:38.87 And so it says in the parable 00:39:38.91\00:39:41.64 that the king was enraged with the people 00:39:41.68\00:39:45.91 and he sent his armies, 00:39:45.95\00:39:47.95 and they destroyed those people, 00:39:47.98\00:39:49.48 and they burnt their city. 00:39:49.52\00:39:51.45 That's the destruction of Jerusalem folks 00:39:51.49\00:39:53.86 in the year 70. 00:39:53.89\00:39:55.49 And then, of course, 00:39:55.52\00:39:56.86 the message goes to the highways 00:39:56.89\00:39:58.23 and the byways. 00:39:58.26\00:39:59.59 Jesus is telling this parable to them there. 00:39:59.63\00:40:01.46 He's saying, this is what's gonna happen to you 00:40:01.50\00:40:04.27 if you reject your marriage covenant. 00:40:04.30\00:40:07.80 And then when you get to Chapter 23, 00:40:07.84\00:40:11.41 Jesus pronounces His woes upon the scribes and Pharisees. 00:40:11.44\00:40:14.88 Let's read verse 29 and following, 00:40:14.91\00:40:17.71 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! 00:40:17.75\00:40:21.28 Because you build the tombs of the prophets 00:40:21.32\00:40:23.32 and adorn the monuments of the righteous, 00:40:23.35\00:40:25.79 and say, if we had lived in the days of our fathers, 00:40:25.82\00:40:29.12 we would not have been partakers with them 00:40:29.16\00:40:30.96 in the blood of the prophets." 00:40:30.99\00:40:32.33 We wouldn't have killed the messengers, 00:40:32.36\00:40:33.80 is what they're saying. 00:40:33.83\00:40:37.33 "Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves 00:40:37.37\00:40:41.10 that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets." 00:40:41.14\00:40:43.84 You're doing the same as what the messengers did. 00:40:43.87\00:40:46.44 What those who killed the messengers did? 00:40:49.14\00:40:52.71 And then He says this. 00:40:52.75\00:40:55.48 "You, yourselves that you are sons of those 00:40:55.52\00:40:57.62 who murdered the prophets. 00:40:57.65\00:40:59.09 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers' guilt." 00:40:59.12\00:41:02.76 In other words the cup is filled, full. 00:41:02.79\00:41:06.76 And then He says, "Serpents, brood of vipers! 00:41:06.80\00:41:11.47 How can you escape the condemnation of hell?" 00:41:11.50\00:41:15.04 Wow. 00:41:15.07\00:41:16.47 But listen carefully. 00:41:16.50\00:41:18.57 Even after Jesus died, 00:41:18.61\00:41:21.68 mercy was still gonna linger for Israel 00:41:21.71\00:41:24.11 for three and a half more years, 00:41:24.15\00:41:25.85 because the theocracy did not close 00:41:25.88\00:41:28.05 until the stoning of Stephen. 00:41:28.08\00:41:30.79 So Jesus is gonna say, 00:41:30.82\00:41:32.22 I'm gonna send you more messengers 00:41:32.25\00:41:33.89 after you kill Me, for three and a half years. 00:41:33.92\00:41:37.19 We're gonna study the 70 weeks. 00:41:37.23\00:41:39.86 A couple of sermons on the 70 weeks. 00:41:39.89\00:41:42.56 Matthew 23:34-36. 00:41:42.60\00:41:45.60 Jesus says, "Therefore, indeed, I send you..." 00:41:45.63\00:41:49.10 it's in future tense. 00:41:49.14\00:41:50.47 "I'll send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: 00:41:50.51\00:41:54.14 some of them you will kill and crucify." 00:41:54.18\00:41:56.88 See, this is future. 00:41:56.91\00:41:58.25 "Some of them you will kill and crucify. 00:41:58.28\00:42:00.35 And some of them 00:42:00.38\00:42:01.72 you will scourge in your synagogues 00:42:01.75\00:42:04.69 and persecute from city to city." 00:42:04.72\00:42:06.65 Let me ask you, 00:42:06.69\00:42:08.02 who was that they persecuted from city to city? 00:42:08.06\00:42:10.99 Saul of Tarsus. 00:42:11.03\00:42:13.43 Who was scourged in the synagogues? 00:42:13.46\00:42:16.97 Peter and John. 00:42:17.00\00:42:18.43 You can read in Acts Chapter 4 and 5. 00:42:18.47\00:42:21.17 Who was crucified? 00:42:21.20\00:42:23.81 Peter, among others. 00:42:23.84\00:42:26.14 Jesus say, this is what you're gonna do. 00:42:26.17\00:42:29.78 And then He says in verse 35, "That on you..." 00:42:29.81\00:42:34.45 After He sends more messengers, 00:42:34.48\00:42:36.08 after His death, He says, 00:42:36.12\00:42:37.49 "That on you may come all the righteous blood 00:42:37.52\00:42:41.02 shed on the earth, 00:42:41.06\00:42:42.39 from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, 00:42:42.42\00:42:44.89 son of Berechiah, whom you murdered 00:42:44.93\00:42:46.76 between the temple and the altar. 00:42:46.80\00:42:48.36 Assuredly, I say to you, 00:42:48.40\00:42:50.27 all these things will come upon 00:42:50.30\00:42:53.30 this generation." 00:42:53.34\00:42:57.37 Are you with me or not? 00:42:57.41\00:42:59.97 So you find here actually a fourth stage 00:43:00.01\00:43:02.51 in the history of Israel. 00:43:02.54\00:43:04.25 And that is three and a half additional years 00:43:04.28\00:43:06.41 after the death of Christ, 00:43:06.45\00:43:09.02 where He's sending them more messengers, 00:43:09.05\00:43:11.05 Peter, John, etcetera, 00:43:11.09\00:43:14.02 to try to get them to receive the Messiah. 00:43:14.06\00:43:17.56 And our Peter and John 00:43:17.59\00:43:18.93 and the messengers treated in the same way 00:43:18.96\00:43:21.13 that Jesus was treated 00:43:21.16\00:43:22.50 and the other messengers were treated? 00:43:22.53\00:43:24.00 Yes. So you have four stages. 00:43:24.03\00:43:26.67 The first 800 years, 00:43:26.70\00:43:29.50 Israel rejects the messengers. 00:43:29.54\00:43:32.67 After the captivity, 70 weeks, they do the same thing. 00:43:32.71\00:43:37.91 Jesus comes, the Son comes, 00:43:37.95\00:43:40.85 they reject Him. 00:43:40.88\00:43:43.18 And it's at last, it's the last resort. 00:43:43.22\00:43:46.82 And then for three and a half more years, 00:43:46.86\00:43:49.39 additional messengers are sent 00:43:49.42\00:43:53.70 and they do the same with them. 00:43:53.73\00:43:57.60 And when Stephen is stoned in the year 34, 00:43:57.63\00:44:01.37 the Jewish theocracy comes to an end. 00:44:01.40\00:44:04.94 Jesus predicted it. 00:44:04.97\00:44:06.31 Now notice Matthew 23:37-38. 00:44:06.34\00:44:09.94 Matthew 23:37-38. 00:44:09.98\00:44:13.11 Jesus has done all this in the temple. 00:44:13.15\00:44:16.22 He's the last resort. 00:44:16.25\00:44:18.25 At last He sent His Son. 00:44:18.29\00:44:20.76 He's tried to woo them into accepting Him. 00:44:20.79\00:44:24.39 When He entered the temple, 00:44:24.43\00:44:26.80 it's called the temple of God 00:44:26.83\00:44:28.26 and He said, "This is My house." 00:44:28.30\00:44:31.57 But now the tone is gonna change 00:44:31.60\00:44:33.87 in Matthew 23:37-38. 00:44:33.90\00:44:39.44 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, 00:44:39.47\00:44:42.08 the one who kills the prophets 00:44:42.11\00:44:43.85 and stones those who are sent to her! 00:44:43.88\00:44:46.98 How often..." Now He speaks about Himself. 00:44:47.02\00:44:49.12 "How often I wanted to gather your children together, 00:44:49.15\00:44:52.32 as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, 00:44:52.35\00:44:54.99 but you were not willing! 00:44:55.02\00:44:56.99 See! 00:44:57.03\00:44:58.36 Your house is left to you desolate." 00:44:58.39\00:45:02.53 Is there a change? 00:45:02.56\00:45:05.37 It's no longer My house but your house. 00:45:05.40\00:45:11.44 And then, do you know what happens? 00:45:11.47\00:45:13.04 Just like in the Old Testament. 00:45:13.07\00:45:14.84 Now Jesus leaves the temple 00:45:14.88\00:45:17.45 and He goes and sits on the Mount of Olives 00:45:17.48\00:45:20.48 and speaks about the destruction of Jerusalem. 00:45:20.52\00:45:25.09 Matthew 24:1, 00:45:25.12\00:45:28.86 "Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple," 00:45:28.89\00:45:34.26 now He's gonna talk about 00:45:34.30\00:45:35.63 because you did not know the hour of your visitation. 00:45:35.66\00:45:40.04 He now says, 00:45:40.07\00:45:42.47 it actually says, 00:45:42.50\00:45:43.84 "His disciples came up to show Him 00:45:43.87\00:45:45.87 the buildings of the temple. 00:45:45.91\00:45:47.84 And now Jesus says the following, 00:45:47.88\00:45:51.11 "Do you not see all these things? 00:45:51.15\00:45:53.68 Assuredly, I say to you, 00:45:53.72\00:45:55.88 not one stone shall be left here 00:45:55.92\00:45:58.45 upon another, 00:45:58.49\00:45:59.82 that shall not be thrown down. 00:45:59.85\00:46:01.79 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, 00:46:01.82\00:46:03.53 the disciples came to Him, saying, 00:46:03.56\00:46:07.20 tell us, 00:46:07.23\00:46:08.56 when will these things be? 00:46:08.60\00:46:10.27 And what will be the sign of Your coming, 00:46:10.30\00:46:12.33 and of the end of the age?" 00:46:12.37\00:46:15.47 Now Jesus is going to describe the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:46:15.50\00:46:19.94 which pre figures the destruction of the world. 00:46:19.97\00:46:23.85 You see, Matthew 24 has a two fold application. 00:46:23.88\00:46:27.58 It describes the destruction of literal Jerusalem 00:46:27.62\00:46:29.72 in the year 70, 00:46:29.75\00:46:31.09 but it also foreshadows on a small scale, 00:46:31.12\00:46:34.69 a larger destruction, the destruction of the world. 00:46:34.72\00:46:37.29 You say, how do we know that? 00:46:37.33\00:46:38.86 Because the disciples asked Jesus two questions, 00:46:38.89\00:46:41.53 is when will these things be 00:46:41.56\00:46:43.37 that there won't be one stone left upon another? 00:46:43.40\00:46:45.43 And what will be the sign of the end of the world? 00:46:45.47\00:46:47.90 They asked two questions. So Jesus blends His response. 00:46:47.94\00:46:51.24 He blends the two. 00:46:51.27\00:46:53.27 In other words the destruction of Jerusalem 00:46:53.31\00:46:54.71 because symbolic a small scale model of the destruction 00:46:54.74\00:46:59.61 that is gonna take place on a global scale. 00:46:59.65\00:47:03.99 Now notice Matthew 24:15. 00:47:04.02\00:47:06.52 Remember the first application is literal Jerusalem. 00:47:06.55\00:47:10.49 You remember the word abomination 00:47:10.53\00:47:12.53 in the Old Testament? 00:47:12.56\00:47:15.66 Remember the word desolation? 00:47:15.70\00:47:18.07 Now notice Matthew 24:15. 00:47:18.10\00:47:20.94 "Therefore, 00:47:20.97\00:47:22.94 when you see the abomination of desolation, 00:47:22.97\00:47:26.88 spoken of by Daniel the prophet, 00:47:26.91\00:47:29.84 standing in the holy place, 00:47:29.88\00:47:32.15 whoever reads, let him understand..." 00:47:32.18\00:47:34.18 What is gonna stand in the holy place, the what? 00:47:34.22\00:47:36.92 The abomination of desolation. 00:47:36.95\00:47:38.89 What is the abomination of desolation 00:47:38.92\00:47:40.79 that was gonna stand in the holy place? 00:47:40.82\00:47:43.43 We have to go to the parallel account in the Gospel root. 00:47:43.46\00:47:46.56 Do you remember who destroyed Jerusalem 00:47:46.59\00:47:49.06 because the Shekhinah left 00:47:49.10\00:47:51.47 and they rejected the Shekhinah? 00:47:51.50\00:47:53.10 Who destroyed Jerusalem? 00:47:53.13\00:47:55.50 Nebuchadnezzar. 00:47:55.54\00:47:57.51 But after Jesus the part of the temple and said, 00:47:57.54\00:47:59.74 you're house has left on to desolate, 00:47:59.77\00:48:01.51 He spoke about the destruction of the temple. 00:48:01.54\00:48:03.71 And who actually came to destroy it? 00:48:03.75\00:48:06.05 The Romans. 00:48:06.08\00:48:08.38 So what is the abomination of desolation in Matthew? 00:48:08.42\00:48:11.55 Luke 21:20 explains it. 00:48:11.59\00:48:14.92 But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, 00:48:14.96\00:48:20.20 they know that its desolation is near. 00:48:20.23\00:48:25.33 So what is the abomination of desolation 00:48:25.37\00:48:27.47 as it applies to literal Jerusalem? 00:48:27.50\00:48:30.27 It is, when the Roman armies come 00:48:30.31\00:48:33.04 and surround the city 00:48:33.07\00:48:34.88 and they are going to destroy the city. 00:48:34.91\00:48:39.08 Notice Luke 19:41-44, 00:48:39.11\00:48:43.79 where Jesus describes 00:48:43.82\00:48:45.42 what is gonna happen to the city. 00:48:45.45\00:48:47.66 Luke 19:41-44. 00:48:47.69\00:48:52.06 "Now as He drew near, 00:48:52.09\00:48:54.56 He saw the city and wept over it, 00:48:54.60\00:48:57.87 saying, if you had known, 00:48:57.90\00:49:00.67 even you, especially in this your day, 00:49:00.70\00:49:04.07 the things that make for your peace! 00:49:04.11\00:49:06.64 But now they are hidden from your eyes. 00:49:06.68\00:49:09.58 For the days will come upon you 00:49:09.61\00:49:12.31 when your enemies will build an embankment around you, 00:49:12.35\00:49:16.15 surround you and close you in on every side, 00:49:16.18\00:49:20.39 and level you, and your children within you, 00:49:20.42\00:49:24.23 to the ground; 00:49:24.26\00:49:25.96 and they will not leave in you one stone upon another," 00:49:25.99\00:49:31.83 why? 00:49:31.87\00:49:33.67 The last part of the verse, 00:49:33.70\00:49:35.64 "because you did not know 00:49:35.67\00:49:39.27 the time of your visitation." 00:49:39.31\00:49:44.45 Are you with me? 00:49:44.48\00:49:47.52 So let's review the four stages of Israel's history. 00:49:47.55\00:49:52.79 What is the first stage? 00:49:52.82\00:49:54.82 God comes to Israel, and He says, 00:49:54.86\00:49:56.49 I wanna make a covenant with you. 00:49:56.52\00:49:58.73 If you obey My voice and Keep My covenant, 00:49:58.76\00:50:01.86 you will be My God... 00:50:01.90\00:50:03.23 and I will be your God and you will be My people. 00:50:03.26\00:50:06.97 Do you wanna marry me, God says? 00:50:07.00\00:50:09.37 Israel said, yeah, 00:50:09.40\00:50:10.74 all that the Lord says, we will do. 00:50:10.77\00:50:12.67 But during the next 800 years, 00:50:12.71\00:50:15.68 Israel becomes a harlot and she has other lovers. 00:50:15.71\00:50:21.38 So God says, okay, I'm gonna put an end to this. 00:50:21.42\00:50:24.42 So the first stage of Israel's history ends 00:50:24.45\00:50:27.52 with the Babylonia captivity. 00:50:27.56\00:50:31.13 But God loved His people. 00:50:31.16\00:50:33.53 So after the Babylonian captivity, 00:50:33.56\00:50:35.13 God says, I'm gonna give them 70 weeks more, 00:50:35.16\00:50:38.10 490 years, 00:50:38.13\00:50:40.57 and I'm gonna send messengers to them, 00:50:40.60\00:50:42.37 and He sent them Haggai and Zechariah, 00:50:42.40\00:50:44.31 Zorababel, Malachi, John the Baptist, 00:50:44.34\00:50:47.98 among others, during those... 00:50:48.01\00:50:50.18 that period of 70 weeks. 00:50:50.21\00:50:54.02 The Bible says, that they did the same with the messengers 00:50:54.05\00:50:56.32 that were sent to them at that second stage. 00:50:56.35\00:51:01.06 So now God says, I will send them My Son, 00:51:01.09\00:51:03.73 stage number three. 00:51:03.76\00:51:05.36 I'll send Jesus in person. 00:51:05.39\00:51:07.93 And Jesus now as the Shekhinah 00:51:07.96\00:51:09.66 that comes into the temple 00:51:09.70\00:51:11.20 that was built after the captivity. 00:51:11.23\00:51:13.30 He is the Shekhinah glory. 00:51:13.34\00:51:15.40 That's why the Second Temple 00:51:15.44\00:51:16.77 is more glorious than the first. 00:51:16.81\00:51:19.41 Because Jesus, the Shekhinah taught in there. 00:51:19.44\00:51:24.61 And what did they do with Him? 00:51:24.65\00:51:27.28 What they did with Him 00:51:27.32\00:51:29.55 is that they threw Him out of the vineyard 00:51:29.58\00:51:32.35 and they killed Him. 00:51:32.39\00:51:35.42 And it's pretty final because it says, 00:51:35.46\00:51:37.16 and last of all, 00:51:37.19\00:51:40.76 the Father sent His son 00:51:40.80\00:51:42.93 and they said, let us kill Him 00:51:42.96\00:51:45.30 and take His inheritance. 00:51:45.33\00:51:47.57 But how great is the mercy of God? 00:51:47.60\00:51:51.44 Then He says, you know, 00:51:51.47\00:51:52.81 even though Jesus said your house 00:51:52.84\00:51:56.18 is left on to your desolate, 00:51:56.21\00:51:59.08 even though I spoke about the destruction of Jerusalem, 00:51:59.11\00:52:01.85 I'm gonna give them a fourth stage, 00:52:01.88\00:52:03.55 I'm gonna give them three and a half more years. 00:52:03.59\00:52:07.49 And the apostles are gonna go 00:52:07.52\00:52:08.89 and they're gonna preach to them. 00:52:08.92\00:52:10.26 I'm gonna send all kinds of messengers to them, 00:52:10.29\00:52:13.23 to try and get them to accept the Messiah. 00:52:13.26\00:52:18.13 What they did with them? 00:52:18.17\00:52:21.04 They beat Peter and John in the synagogue. 00:52:21.07\00:52:24.81 The leadership opposed the messengers. 00:52:24.84\00:52:28.41 They stoned Stephen. 00:52:28.44\00:52:33.31 That was the last opportunity that the Jewish theocracy had. 00:52:33.35\00:52:38.12 Now, let me explain 00:52:38.15\00:52:39.85 that the door of mercy did not close 00:52:39.89\00:52:42.12 for individual Jews. 00:52:42.16\00:52:44.93 God loves the Jews, 00:52:44.96\00:52:47.60 like He loves every ethnic group 00:52:47.63\00:52:50.23 and nationality in the world. 00:52:50.27\00:52:53.10 What came to an end was the Jewish theocracy. 00:52:53.13\00:52:57.87 In other words, God rejected them 00:52:57.91\00:53:00.24 as the instrument to reach the world for the Messiah. 00:53:00.28\00:53:05.98 He gave them four chances. 00:53:06.01\00:53:09.85 Let me tell you this, if they would not accept Jesus, 00:53:09.88\00:53:13.02 it's rather doubtful 00:53:13.05\00:53:14.39 they would accept the message of anyone else. 00:53:14.42\00:53:17.93 And so now God says, 00:53:17.96\00:53:19.79 and we're gonna find this when we study the 70 weeks, 00:53:19.83\00:53:22.20 this is actually the structure, 00:53:22.23\00:53:23.80 the historical structure of the 70 weeks, 00:53:23.83\00:53:26.77 where we said, this is foundation. 00:53:26.80\00:53:29.64 And so, 00:53:29.67\00:53:32.14 when the first group 00:53:32.17\00:53:34.74 that God chose did not fulfill its mission, 00:53:34.78\00:53:38.11 God says, 00:53:38.15\00:53:39.95 I will take the kingdom from them. 00:53:39.98\00:53:42.62 And I will give it to the ethne. 00:53:42.65\00:53:47.52 That's a word for Gentiles. 00:53:47.56\00:53:50.33 And I will give the kingdom to the Gentiles 00:53:50.36\00:53:52.96 and now they will go to the highways 00:53:52.99\00:53:54.76 to the byways, they will go into all the world 00:53:54.80\00:53:59.00 and call people to come to the Messiah. 00:53:59.03\00:54:02.14 That is the role of the Christian church. 00:54:02.17\00:54:05.21 Is that Christian church today fulfills the role of Israel? 00:54:05.24\00:54:11.25 The purpose of the church is to call the world 00:54:11.28\00:54:14.18 to receive the Messiah, 00:54:14.22\00:54:15.95 where the Jewish theocracy failed. 00:54:15.98\00:54:19.45 You see, if God had simply dependent upon Israel 00:54:19.49\00:54:23.99 during these 2,000 years, 00:54:24.03\00:54:25.66 nobody would have been evangelized. 00:54:25.69\00:54:28.80 Now some people say, 00:54:28.83\00:54:30.17 well, then you believe in replacement theology, 00:54:30.20\00:54:31.73 you believe that the church replaces Israel. 00:54:31.77\00:54:33.70 No. 00:54:33.74\00:54:35.07 The church continues faithful Israel. 00:54:35.10\00:54:38.61 The church is true Israel. 00:54:38.64\00:54:42.14 We're gonna find in our next couple of studies. 00:54:42.18\00:54:45.21 It is not another people 00:54:45.25\00:54:47.08 that God chooses in place of Israel. 00:54:47.12\00:54:48.92 No, it is a continuation of the mission 00:54:48.95\00:54:52.69 and the message of Israel. 00:54:52.72\00:54:55.42 It is spiritual Israel 00:54:55.46\00:54:56.79 because people might not have the literal blood of Abraham 00:54:56.83\00:54:59.49 running through their veins, 00:54:59.53\00:55:01.40 but they're fulfilling the mission 00:55:01.43\00:55:03.10 for which God called literal Israel. 00:55:03.13\00:55:06.30 Are you with me or not? 00:55:06.33\00:55:08.54 And so God has called the Christian church 00:55:08.57\00:55:11.47 to fulfill the mission. 00:55:11.51\00:55:12.84 And by the way, I'll end with this. 00:55:12.87\00:55:14.21 And we have, I have a lecture 00:55:14.24\00:55:15.88 that's coming up in the next couple of presentations 00:55:15.91\00:55:19.41 that I'm gonna make that make this very clear, 00:55:19.45\00:55:22.25 and that is that God does not have 00:55:22.28\00:55:23.99 too mutually exclusive peoples, 00:55:24.02\00:55:26.86 one plan for literally Israel, 00:55:26.89\00:55:28.82 and another for the plan for the church, 00:55:28.86\00:55:30.33 like dispensationalists, like futurist teach. 00:55:30.36\00:55:32.76 They say, well, you know, God has a plan for the church, 00:55:32.79\00:55:35.10 that's the last 2,000 years, 00:55:35.13\00:55:36.87 the rapture will mark the end of His plan for the church, 00:55:36.90\00:55:39.97 and then He will kick start the plan for Israel, 00:55:40.00\00:55:41.84 His other people. 00:55:41.87\00:55:43.71 That's not biblical. 00:55:43.74\00:55:45.67 Because when you read Revelation Chapter 12, 00:55:45.71\00:55:47.71 and I'm gonna come back to this later on. 00:55:47.74\00:55:49.88 When you read Revelation Chapter 12, 00:55:49.91\00:55:52.01 there's one woman that represents 00:55:52.05\00:55:54.45 both Old Testament and New Testament Israel. 00:55:54.48\00:55:59.25 The woman is with child. 00:55:59.29\00:56:02.69 So she must exist before the child. 00:56:02.72\00:56:06.73 In other words, 00:56:06.76\00:56:08.10 that represents the Jewish nation, 00:56:08.13\00:56:10.90 that was gonna bring the Messiah into the world. 00:56:10.93\00:56:13.77 But after the child is born, 00:56:13.80\00:56:17.34 the same woman flees to the wilderness 00:56:17.37\00:56:20.24 for 1,260 years, the same woman. 00:56:20.28\00:56:24.75 So in other words, the woman in the New Testament 00:56:24.78\00:56:26.82 continues the woman of the Old Testament. 00:56:26.85\00:56:30.69 Not two peoples with two different plans, 00:56:30.72\00:56:34.66 rupturing one 00:56:34.69\00:56:36.02 and leaving the other one behind, 00:56:36.06\00:56:39.06 as if they haven't suffered enough 00:56:39.09\00:56:42.06 already, the Jews. 00:56:42.10\00:56:46.13 Did you understand what we study this evening? 00:56:46.17\00:56:50.27 Foundation for what we're gonna study 00:56:50.31\00:56:54.08 in the next two lectures. 00:56:54.11\00:56:56.64 The next two lectures we are going to study, 00:56:56.68\00:56:59.55 first of all, 00:56:59.58\00:57:00.92 extensively about the cursing of the fig tree. 00:57:00.95\00:57:05.02 And then we are gonna study about the Apostle Paul's 00:57:05.05\00:57:08.16 perspective of who Israel is. 00:57:08.19\00:57:11.33 And incidentally, folks, 00:57:11.36\00:57:13.53 if the final battle is battling against Israel 00:57:13.56\00:57:18.93 and battling is a spiritual system, 00:57:18.97\00:57:21.17 it must mean that Israel is also a spiritual system. 00:57:21.20\00:57:26.24 Because you can't say like Dave Hunt, 00:57:26.27\00:57:28.91 that Babylon is a worldwide spiritual system, 00:57:28.94\00:57:32.15 but Israel is the literal Israel 00:57:32.18\00:57:34.08 in the Middle East 00:57:34.12\00:57:36.02 because Babylon was the enemy of Israel. 00:57:36.05\00:57:38.49 The final battle will be 00:57:38.52\00:57:40.29 the righteous against the unrighteous, 00:57:40.32\00:57:43.46 spiritual Israel against spiritual Babylon. 00:57:43.49\00:57:47.13 And like has happened 00:57:47.16\00:57:48.50 all throughout the course of history, 00:57:48.53\00:57:50.90 spiritual Israel will be victorious. 00:57:50.93\00:57:56.04 Like Jacob was victorious 00:57:56.07\00:57:58.51 when he struggled with the angel, 00:57:58.54\00:57:59.87 you have struggled with God and with man 00:57:59.91\00:58:02.91 and you have overcome. 00:58:02.94\00:58:04.28
