like, people would tell you you

there's no way out of the

you commit a sin.

look back through history,

and groups of people throughout

dilemma" does not exist.

One of those special groups
of people were the Waldensians

and of course they hold a
special place in our hearts as

many of us has actually visited
the mountains and valleys where

they lived and we've all
spent time studying about them.

And right now I think it
will be intresting to share

some stories about some
"moral dilemmas" that the

Waldensians faced.

- Well in 1655 after the
Waldensians refused to give up

their faith, enemies invaded
their home land in Northen Italy

to kill them, and they decided
to flee the mountain and it must

of been a terrible climb as I
remember climbing it,it's a very

streighnuos, very long hike.

And they had their children,they
were carying their babies and

fleeing for their lives.

And seeing all that the
soldiers still had a bitter

hate in their hearts for
those people, that they falowed

them up there and asked
them one last time to deny

their God, to give up their
faith and they chose not to,

they chosed that they rather
to be rolled over the precipice

- I can remember standing
up there at the top of that

mountain and, I was pretty tired
by the time I got to the top,

I think all of us were,
even some of you young men

that neve grow weary and faint,
but it was such an incredible

experience, to be
standing there and realise what

did you feel standing up there?

- It was hard to imagine
hat that's actualy where it

happened, and the distance from
the top to the bottom, it almost

just can't imagine it, and it

would be extremly scary to
have that put in front of you.

- I was busy running around
telling everybody to get back

from the edge, they were
willing to be rolled of that

rather than give up their faith.

consequence of that?

- Well even though we might
not see the ends, many other

countries like England and
Holland, when they heard about

that, it apalled them so
much that they presured the

persecuters to stop.

- So they end up saving many,
many lives. I belive that if

they were to, when it came
up to the resurection, they will

say praise God, that we were
able to give our lives for this.

Gionavello who had a small group

of men with him who were
trying to defend themselves

that were after them.

- I'm not sure but he only had
a few men and there must have

been thousands in
the army against them.

- I think it was something
like 40 to 10.000, something

- He found a place that was
very secure and he could hide,

but somehow the army
found his wife and his

daughters, and they took
them and they sent a message to

have your wife and daughters and

we're gonna burn them at
the stake if you don't deny your

faith. But he wrote back, he
sent a message back to them and

he said, well if I deny my
faith probably my family would

fallow me and they would deny
theirs too, it's ok if they lose

their life on this Earth,
but if they lose their eternal

life because I deny my
faith than that would be the

greatest tragedy.

- I think of any of the stories
of the Waldensians, that's

the one that touches my heart,
because we love our family

so much, but he was
exactly right wasn't he?

consequence of his decision?

- You would expect that his
wife and doughters were burn

at the stake, but the Lord
had a different program and the

Lord delivered his wife
and doughters from those who

captured them and they were all
able to flee to safety and keep

their faith.

it doesn't always and that

How did this whole ideea of
moral dilemmas ever get started?

Where did it come from?

- Actualy it started in paganism
we've heard all this stories

where people had to make a
decision betwen one bad thing

and another bad thing,
but I don't think that's

the way God has it planned.

- Yes I read about a man that
had to decide if he was going

to sacrifice his daughter
or obey the gods and go to war,

and he had to do one or the
other and here he was going to

either disobey his gods
or sacrifice his daughter.

Have you heard
scenarios like this that

- There's one that I heard
several times, where people say,

what if someone comes to
your door and you are hiding

a persecuted christian, and
they're hiding somebody in your

house,the soldiers come and they
say: tell me where they are,

if you don't tell me where
they are or if you're hiding any

christians then
I'm going to kill you.

And so you have to eighter lie
and say that you don't have any,

or else you'll be
killed or maybe some other bad

things will happen.

- At the very list we have
to chose betwen lying or saying,

dilemma that came about many

years ago, Satan himself
tryed to force a moral dilemma

on God, what was that?

- Well, Satan said:it's
imposible for you to impose your

law, and save your people.

Either you have to take away
your law, abolish that, and save

your people, or
let your people parish.

- And he thought that he had God
didn't he? But what did God do?

- He made a way of escape.

want to, but they took the

has to be killed, or someone

or the boat will sink and every

way through, what was the way

between Christ and Satan.

let's go back to a fundamental

ever right to lie, steal, cheat,

the commandments in order

choices, of course you'll think

some of these people in your

Ok. Now you're up against am
I going to tell a lie,or am I

going to betray these
people to there death?

How do we get around it?

- There is one promise we can
claim that God says that those

Gods honore isn't always life!

so, if you honor God and say:

lot of times we have such narrow

consideration the power of God

that story in the bible in Sodom

to do is sin, so as long as we

dilemma did they have?

and burn into the furnace or,

bow to the golden image.

what you would do if you were

that plane, and there are many

just flat on their faces.

people it wasn't just the public

he was going to sacrifice Isac,

he could see no way out of it,
because God directly told him

that's what he needed to do,

Last night we were talking
about a story of a reformer,

in prison because of his faith

when he was escaping from prison
