And let's read our ingredients. 00:00:38.90\00:00:44.97 So what we're doing first is our crust. 00:01:25.75\00:01:29.32 And those were the ingredients for our crust. 00:01:29.35\00:01:32.25 So these are the buckwheat that have been soaked overnight 00:01:32.29\00:01:36.73 Sunflower seeds that have been soaked overnight 00:01:38.06\00:01:41.43 And this is the soaking water from the sun dried tomatoes 00:01:43.47\00:01:47.54 Sun dried tomatoes 00:01:49.07\00:01:52.01 One date. I always use date for sweetener 00:01:52.04\00:01:56.14 I forgot to take the pit out of the date. Remember to always 00:01:56.18\00:02:01.32 take the pit out of the dates. 00:02:01.35\00:02:03.12 Or you'll not be happy with the results. 00:02:03.15\00:02:05.89 And then we have flax seeds and we have brown flax seeds 00:02:07.32\00:02:11.16 that have been soaked also overnight 00:02:11.19\00:02:14.20 this is our onion, chopped 00:02:15.50\00:02:18.57 Fresh garlic. This has a lot of ingredients 00:02:19.43\00:02:24.07 but it is well worth it. It is so delicious. 00:02:24.11\00:02:28.51 This is our dried rosemary 00:02:28.54\00:02:30.81 and our salt. 00:02:31.51\00:02:34.22 We're gonna get these things out of the way 00:02:35.98\00:02:38.39 and we're gonna process. 00:02:40.06\00:02:42.92 And you want to process it to a smooth mixture 00:03:16.19\00:03:20.03 Today we're using our dehydrator again. The dehydrator is 00:03:23.53\00:03:31.31 I would say like a cool oven but it really is not an oven, 00:03:31.34\00:03:34.88 it draws the moisture out. 00:03:34.91\00:03:37.71 So we want to take some of our mixture 00:03:40.65\00:03:46.09 and we want to spread it 00:03:48.92\00:03:50.69 on the dehydrator sheet 00:03:54.03\00:03:56.73 and we want to dehydrate this overnight. 00:03:56.77\00:04:03.44 And because of the miracle of television 00:04:08.11\00:04:13.15 I have the finished product. 00:04:16.18\00:04:18.62 That's what's so amazing about raw foods. 00:04:20.16\00:04:24.79 The smell is incredible. 00:04:24.83\00:04:29.03 And now we read the ingredients for the veggies. 00:04:29.06\00:04:34.10 In a previous episode I showed how to spiralize zucchini 00:05:14.51\00:05:20.82 and it's done with a spiralizer 00:05:20.85\00:05:23.12 So we have the spiralized zucchini 00:05:23.15\00:05:26.39 The bell peppers and the onions 00:05:26.42\00:05:29.02 This is the coarsely chopped spinach 00:05:30.99\00:05:33.96 Basil and oregano 00:05:37.90\00:05:40.54 Olive oil 00:05:43.30\00:05:46.51 The salt 00:05:46.54\00:05:48.84 and two cloves of minced garlic 00:05:48.88\00:05:52.61 and you want to make sure you mince them well 00:05:56.42\00:06:01.29 and then you want to incorporate all of the ingredients together 00:06:03.73\00:06:08.66 and you know what I like to do 00:06:11.13\00:06:13.40 I like to use my hands 00:06:13.44\00:06:16.04 so I can really get in there and incorporate everything 00:06:16.07\00:06:21.68 And then what we're gonna do next 00:06:26.28\00:06:28.75 is we're gonna put them on a dehydrator tray 00:06:28.78\00:06:35.06 and we're gonna dehydrate them 00:06:35.09\00:06:40.30 for, I would say, about 2 hours. 00:06:40.33\00:06:44.03 And you wanna make sure they're spread out really evenly 00:06:48.37\00:06:52.31 and dehydrate them 00:06:56.38\00:06:58.78 Next we're gonna do our tomatoes 00:07:04.69\00:07:08.42 And we're gonna thinly slice our tomatoes 00:07:14.26\00:07:17.70 Like so 00:07:20.50\00:07:23.51 You want to make sure you get firm tomatoes 00:07:31.98\00:07:35.65 cause you don't want them too soggy 00:07:35.68\00:07:37.92 you want to make sure that they're very firm 00:07:37.95\00:07:42.12 You want to spread them out in a Pyrex dish 00:07:43.83\00:07:46.49 and just combine the ingredients the oil, the salt 00:07:54.30\00:08:01.01 the cayenne 00:08:02.28\00:08:03.65 and the seasonings, the herbs 00:08:03.68\00:08:06.51 and just mix them up 00:08:06.55\00:08:09.62 you wanna also take these 00:08:10.65\00:08:12.65 put them on a dehydrator sheet 00:08:17.79\00:08:20.00 and you want to dehydrate them also 00:08:20.03\00:08:23.67 for a couple of hours 00:08:23.70\00:08:26.50 so we're gonna put some more of the tomatoes on 00:08:28.57\00:08:32.87 and then stick it in the dehydrator 00:08:34.01\00:08:36.61 And for our next recipe 00:08:38.95\00:08:42.32 Now we have our macadamia nuts This is a very quick easy recipe 00:09:01.50\00:09:08.24 The spring onions 00:09:08.28\00:09:10.88 The nutritional yeast 00:09:10.91\00:09:13.68 The lemon juice 00:09:15.25\00:09:17.45 and the sea salt 00:09:17.49\00:09:18.82 And then we process it. 00:09:19.42\00:09:21.92 And after it's a little grainy looking 00:09:29.66\00:09:33.30 you want to put it in the dehydrator 00:09:33.34\00:09:35.47 for about four hours and this is the finished product. 00:09:35.50\00:09:40.11 And now let's assemble the pizza since we have all our 00:09:40.14\00:09:44.88 ingredients ready. You want to start with. In the previous 00:09:44.91\00:09:50.32 episode I did a macadamia almond cheese and you want to use that 00:09:50.35\00:09:54.29 as the base. You want to put your tomatoes on 00:09:54.32\00:09:57.99 And these tomatoes are slightly dehydrated and it has all 00:09:59.79\00:10:04.87 the flavors that we put on it all the Italian seasonings 00:10:04.90\00:10:11.64 and the olive oil and the salt 00:10:11.67\00:10:13.51 and instead of using like a pizza sauce, we're using these 00:10:14.84\00:10:19.25 tomatoes because remember fresh is fabulous 00:10:19.28\00:10:23.79 and these are fresh tomatoes 00:10:23.82\00:10:27.36 Then you want to put your veggies on 00:10:27.39\00:10:31.23 and last but not least 00:10:37.17\00:10:40.60 you want to put your feta cheese 00:10:42.17\00:10:47.54 Look at the colors! 00:10:47.58\00:10:50.65 Look how wonderful this is 00:10:50.68\00:10:53.35 Remember always to live life fresh. 00:10:56.75\00:11:03.43 More peas if you please, on brown rice that is 00:11:10.53\00:11:14.84 Now we all love some peas and rice, some call it beans n rice 00:11:14.87\00:11:18.94 or rice and peas or whatever you wanna call it 00:11:18.97\00:11:21.51 Just call it something, it's all the same and they all taste good 00:11:21.54\00:11:25.15 and it's good for you. And a lot of times you know, we would 00:11:25.18\00:11:28.95 like to make it and we would like to make it a healthy choice 00:11:28.98\00:11:32.25 with it but sometimes we just need to learn, you know 00:11:32.29\00:11:35.66 couple of extra dishes, I remember a long time ago 00:11:35.69\00:11:39.03 we always loved some peas and rice, whatever the pea it was 00:11:39.06\00:11:42.80 we just wanted pigeon peas, kidney beans, garbanzo beans 00:11:42.83\00:11:47.50 I never really had garbanzo but black eyed peas and just name it 00:11:47.54\00:11:51.81 we had it because sometimes it was the cheapest thing 00:11:51.84\00:11:55.14 that we could buy you know. You could buy a big bag of 00:11:55.18\00:11:58.08 beans, dry ones for a couple dollars and that would last us 00:11:58.11\00:12:02.95 like the whole month, you know what I mean. One time I got 00:12:02.98\00:12:05.62 tired of the beans so much, I said, look mom enough is enough 00:12:05.65\00:12:09.12 I'm tired of these beans, I think my kidneys are actually 00:12:09.16\00:12:12.06 looking like kidney beans. It was just too much 00:12:12.09\00:12:14.80 Too much, too much would be the cry if you eat it too much 00:12:14.83\00:12:17.80 but the key is to have some variety and enjoy it 00:12:17.83\00:12:21.00 but then we also want to do it with some good options 00:12:21.04\00:12:23.71 meaning the brown rice. A lot of times we make peas and rice 00:12:23.74\00:12:27.44 we would use white rice ok. I'm not here to say anything 00:12:27.48\00:12:30.75 is bad with the rice or anything of that nature but we notice 00:12:30.78\00:12:33.58 there is a difference, there is a difference. Yes it does taste 00:12:33.62\00:12:36.35 different but also we wanna choose, yes we wanna get a 00:12:36.38\00:12:39.42 taste of that paradise but we wanna choose better or healthier 00:12:39.45\00:12:42.42 alternatives or options. And so that's why we wanna choose 00:12:42.46\00:12:45.93 some of that brown rice. And that's what we're gonna actually 00:12:45.96\00:12:48.33 do today is make some of these things but let's look at the 00:12:48.36\00:12:50.80 differences between these rices here, if you can say that 00:12:50.83\00:12:54.80 There's the white rice and brown rice, ok 00:12:54.84\00:12:56.77 We know the brown one is a whole grain item which is 00:12:56.81\00:13:00.18 crucial because it contains fiber. How can you tell 00:13:00.21\00:13:03.28 if a rice is good or not? You just look at it closely 00:13:03.31\00:13:07.68 and when you look at it closely you will see that it has like 00:13:07.72\00:13:10.89 some fiber, like some stuff across it because there's a 00:13:10.92\00:13:14.29 lot of types of rice out there. There's rice that looks brown 00:13:14.32\00:13:16.89 brown but is not brown. It's really like white rice that has 00:13:16.93\00:13:19.49 has been treated. AKA it's called parboiled rice 00:13:19.53\00:13:22.06 but then you wanna look at the end of it you can see a little 00:13:22.10\00:13:25.53 clear, not clear but a little white speck, its the germ ok? 00:13:25.57\00:13:30.31 Whole grains, we're trying to focus on whole grains here 00:13:30.34\00:13:33.71 All whole grains in general have three parts 00:13:33.74\00:13:37.25 there's fiber to it which is those little specks there 00:13:37.28\00:13:41.88 then there's the germ at the bottom and then the last part 00:13:41.92\00:13:44.85 is the endosperm or the white rice. And that is what everybody 00:13:44.89\00:13:51.29 is used to that's what we use to make peas and rice recipe 00:13:51.33\00:13:55.76 But what we wanna do is use the brown one because it's 00:13:55.80\00:13:59.27 a healthy alternative. It's also good for balancing the blessings 00:13:59.30\00:14:03.24 because of the fiber it keeps things moving you know what 00:14:03.27\00:14:06.54 I mean. So when it's time for number 2 you know, there's 00:14:06.57\00:14:09.18 number 1 in front and number 2 in the back, you know when you 00:14:09.21\00:14:11.51 have to go to the bathroom there's no problem. You don't 00:14:11.55\00:14:13.55 have to be crying Lord help me You know what I mean cause 00:14:13.58\00:14:16.28 there's strain and this and that so we want to go ahead and use 00:14:16.32\00:14:20.26 brown rice cause it keeps things rolling across nicely. A lot of 00:14:20.29\00:14:24.26 times we're afraid of the brown rice. If you've ever been 00:14:24.29\00:14:26.49 to potluck before or where they have a gathering and everybody 00:14:26.53\00:14:30.10 brings a dish, you ever notice people will love to eat white 00:14:30.13\00:14:33.67 rice and they'll end up calling for seconds, right? 00:14:33.70\00:14:36.14 No problem. But when it's time for brown rice and they're 00:14:36.17\00:14:38.77 serving it out and the sister comes with the brown rice 00:14:38.81\00:14:41.21 she's about to serve and you say, wait sister don't put 00:14:41.24\00:14:43.28 too much. Because what does the brown rice do? 00:14:43.31\00:14:46.41 Because of the fiber content it does what? It expands in the 00:14:46.45\00:14:51.55 system, remember how it keeps things moving? It expands 00:14:51.59\00:14:53.66 and gives you a false sense of fullness. 00:14:53.69\00:14:55.82 That's the job of fiber ok. And so as a result now when we have 00:14:55.86\00:15:01.00 the false sense of fullness we actually eat what? Less. 00:15:01.03\00:15:04.80 You already know that, that's why you only call for just a 00:15:04.83\00:15:08.20 little ma'am, just put a little bit of that brown rice cause I 00:15:08.24\00:15:10.77 still want this and that and all the rest of the other 00:15:10.81\00:15:13.27 desserts. And so what's gonna cause the problem now 00:15:13.31\00:15:17.11 is we're gonna end up over eating. That's why whole grain 00:15:17.15\00:15:19.41 is even better for us because of the fiber content 00:15:19.45\00:15:23.25 And also when you look at the white products alright 00:15:23.28\00:15:26.39 here's a simple rule of thumb when we look at white products 00:15:26.42\00:15:29.99 if it doesn't come naturally white stay away from it 00:15:30.03\00:15:33.53 Now what do I mean? What comes naturally white? 00:15:33.56\00:15:35.73 You have the potatoes, yams, and different items of that nature 00:15:35.76\00:15:40.20 different turnips and stuff, they come white. So those 00:15:40.24\00:15:42.90 are fantastic. But while rice in general is not grown white 00:15:42.94\00:15:46.37 it's grown as a whole grain and then it's processed 00:15:46.41\00:15:49.24 and that's why when you look at your white rice 00:15:49.28\00:15:51.71 you see a little cut on the side that's where the fiber was 00:15:51.75\00:15:54.45 and then if you notice at the tip at the end of the white rice 00:15:54.48\00:15:57.72 you'll see a little claw. Well the claw wasn't always there 00:15:57.75\00:16:00.59 there was the germ that used to stick in there 00:16:00.62\00:16:02.96 and so when we eat the white rice, white bread, white flour 00:16:02.99\00:16:06.49 when it goes through digestion it becomes like paste and 00:16:06.53\00:16:10.07 it hits the sides of the walls of the intestine and 00:16:10.10\00:16:14.24 digestive tract, right? And when it hits the sides it's like 00:16:14.27\00:16:17.24 almost like paste, like glue. I have a quick question 00:16:17.27\00:16:20.41 Now you already know this. A long time ago before glue 00:16:20.44\00:16:24.78 glue was always around, but before we had free liberal 00:16:24.81\00:16:28.22 access to glue when you tried to go and fly a kite, ok 00:16:28.25\00:16:32.12 what did you use to use to stick the kite to the little 00:16:32.15\00:16:36.46 sticks, you know the little flat thing, little paper that 00:16:36.49\00:16:39.06 goes on the to stick it. If you didn't have glue you run 00:16:39.09\00:16:42.03 inside the house, Mommy, Mommy can I get some white flour 00:16:42.06\00:16:44.87 and you take the white flour and mix it with water ok 00:16:44.90\00:16:49.57 to make a little paste. You put that there on the stick or 00:16:49.60\00:16:52.51 whatever you use and you put the top part on it and you 00:16:52.54\00:16:56.28 let it dry a little bit and you're out there flying the kite 00:16:56.31\00:16:59.38 because it works like glue. 00:16:59.41\00:17:01.42 What happens in the digestive tract? Hello 00:17:01.45\00:17:04.12 Same principle. You eat it and get the paste going and sticks 00:17:04.15\00:17:08.52 there and when its time to go to the restroom, you're like 00:17:08.56\00:17:11.49 Lord help me. And so watch we don't need that problem 00:17:11.53\00:17:14.36 any more if we start using a little bit more brown rice 00:17:14.40\00:17:18.00 or different items of that nature and so what's the rule 00:17:18.03\00:17:20.67 of the thumb? Here's the rule of thumb again. If it doesn't 00:17:20.70\00:17:23.74 come naturally white leave it out. Old saying, when in doubt 00:17:23.77\00:17:28.04 leave it out. I was doing a program, it was the funniest 00:17:28.08\00:17:30.68 thing. We gotta get that recipe cause I know y'all wanna eat 00:17:30.71\00:17:35.18 her hand. It was so funny cause she was African American 00:17:35.22\00:17:39.69 she was a Black woman and she waves her hand and she says 00:17:39.72\00:17:43.43 Nyse what should I do? I have a little dilemma with this y'know 00:17:43.46\00:17:48.20 this white and brown and stuff of that nature. Ma'am go ahead 00:17:48.23\00:17:51.80 and ask your question. The funniest thing, she says my 00:17:51.83\00:17:54.77 husband is white, she says do I need to get rid of him too. 00:17:54.80\00:17:59.94 I said Ma'am, Amen. Did he come naturally white? 00:17:59.97\00:18:03.45 She said, yes. I said, so go ahead and keep him. 00:18:03.48\00:18:05.61 Is that alright? So naturally, it has to come naturally white 00:18:05.65\00:18:08.72 but if it doesn't come naturally white leave it alone, 00:18:08.75\00:18:11.12 get rid of it. So what we gonna do is we're gonna make this 00:18:11.15\00:18:14.22 simple, delicious recipe that a lot of people enjoy 00:18:14.26\00:18:17.36 more peas with that brown rice please and here we go 00:18:17.39\00:18:20.13 we're gonna go through the real simple ingredients 00:18:20.16\00:18:21.83 Alright, I think that should be pretty much easy for everybody 00:18:56.43\00:19:00.24 to do and watch this, a lot of times I get this little buzz 00:19:00.27\00:19:04.54 people say, look I wish I can make peas and rice 00:19:04.57\00:19:07.18 or rice and peas, I wish I can make brown rice but it's 00:19:07.21\00:19:10.35 so hard for us to make. And the reason why, sometimes we don't 00:19:10.38\00:19:14.38 get those measurements properly and the next thing is they don't 00:19:14.42\00:19:18.12 know when we're cooking it or boiling it they don't know when 00:19:18.15\00:19:22.72 to lower it down and it becomes instead of rice it becomes mush 00:19:22.76\00:19:26.93 you know what I mean? We might as well use chopsticks for it 00:19:26.96\00:19:29.36 instead. So what the simple rule is, or a simple guideline is 00:19:29.40\00:19:33.34 for every 1 cup of brown rice you wanna use at least 2 cups 00:19:33.37\00:19:38.77 of water OK? For every 1 cup of brown rice, we just use 2 cups 00:19:38.81\00:19:43.81 of water and it's really simple. Even better if you don't know 00:19:43.85\00:19:47.42 when to turn it off, when to boil it, when to turn it down 00:19:47.45\00:19:50.49 and how to keep it going, we found the easiest way to do it 00:19:50.52\00:19:53.56 why don't you just bake your rice? Now y'all are thinking 00:19:53.59\00:19:57.33 what in the world, this man has lost his mind, he's baking rice? 00:19:57.36\00:20:00.70 Yeah. Well if you don't know how to do it let the oven do 00:20:00.73\00:20:03.40 do the hard work for you. And so that's what we're gonna do 00:20:03.43\00:20:05.77 today, we're actually gonna bake our brown rice and peas. 00:20:05.80\00:20:10.14 alright. And it's really simple. All we need is this casserole 00:20:10.17\00:20:13.17 dish. So we have the casserole dish here. We have our brown 00:20:13.21\00:20:17.28 rice. We're gonna line up our brown rice in there. 00:20:17.31\00:20:20.52 We're gonna pour our brown rice. Sometimes what people do with 00:20:20.55\00:20:26.09 the brown rice is they dextronize it, what that means 00:20:26.12\00:20:29.02 is they kind of cook it a little bit in advance 00:20:29.06\00:20:31.23 and if you're doing it on a stove top what that means is you 00:20:31.26\00:20:34.46 take a saucepan, a non-stick one or something of that nature and 00:20:34.50\00:20:37.50 you take the rice you put it on there and you keep moving it 00:20:37.53\00:20:40.47 without adding anything and what that does is it kinda applies 00:20:40.50\00:20:43.37 the heat and helps with it. Makes it nice and crunchy 00:20:43.41\00:20:46.51 as well if you like that. Then we're going to go ahead and 00:20:46.54\00:20:50.05 we're gonna take the kidney beans. We use kidney beans 00:20:50.08\00:20:53.65 today but use any bean of choice you know what I mean 00:20:53.68\00:20:56.99 peas or anything of that nature this one I grabbed out of the 00:20:57.02\00:20:59.99 can here, so you can buy them in a can. I kinda like keep a 00:21:00.02\00:21:05.19 variety of the dried ones around you know, in big bags to save 00:21:05.23\00:21:08.93 some money and I also use the can. Sometimes you're in a quick 00:21:08.96\00:21:11.93 bind, friends come over and they're like we're hungry 00:21:11.97\00:21:14.90 and I'm like you have to wait overnight till I soak the beans 00:21:14.94\00:21:18.17 and then cook them. No, no we don't have time for that 00:21:18.21\00:21:20.58 So I like to have a couple of cans and don't worry about 00:21:20.61\00:21:25.48 salt if you just go ahead and rinse it off, should be fine 00:21:25.51\00:21:29.25 and enjoy it. I like to get the generic brands as you know 00:21:29.28\00:21:32.59 we do a program called "Pinch Your Pennies" and we gonna pinch 00:21:32.62\00:21:35.49 the penny, not let the penny pinch us. I like the generic 00:21:35.52\00:21:38.26 brand cause if you really notice I've researched it 00:21:38.29\00:21:40.13 a lot these are stored, not stored, packaged and processed 00:21:40.16\00:21:44.23 in similar facilities. But when they leave they look different 00:21:44.27\00:21:47.24 Why? One that comes with the generic marking or labeling 00:21:47.27\00:21:50.87 and one comes with a ton of colors and stuff of that nature 00:21:50.91\00:21:54.14 and so what happens to the price, you're in the store 00:21:54.18\00:21:57.25 you're looking at the shelf and you see one and it looks really 00:21:57.28\00:22:00.28 nice. You're like man, this one must taste better. But they were 00:22:00.32\00:22:03.49 packaged in the same facility and all it does, one has a lot 00:22:03.52\00:22:07.96 of color and one doesn't. So if you wanna pay a little extra 00:22:07.99\00:22:10.53 for some more ink, the product inside is the same. 00:22:10.56\00:22:14.53 Remember rule of thumb, when in doubt leave it out? 00:22:14.56\00:22:17.73 You're not sure then grab your own big bag of dry beans 00:22:17.77\00:22:21.90 stuff of that nature, soak them overnight and I've shared before 00:22:21.94\00:22:25.47 couple of times, soak them overnight then next morning 00:22:25.51\00:22:27.54 what do you do? Some call it 00:22:36.35\00:22:38.62 wind, some call it gas I just like to say stay away from 00:22:38.65\00:22:42.36 flammable areas and I'm talkin about the beans as well 00:22:42.39\00:22:45.19 and then you should be fine. You change the water and then 00:22:45.23\00:22:49.40 you make the same recipe. So we gonna take those beans 00:22:49.43\00:22:51.80 We're gonna pour them in here we just have a couple 00:22:51.83\00:22:56.07 just about that can there.
