Welcome to The New Journey, a program about real live people 00:00:09.40\00:00:13.11 with real life testimonies doing real life ministry for Jesus 00:00:13.14\00:00:16.88 Christ. I'm your host, Pastor Marquis Johns. Join us on The 00:00:16.91\00:00:20.58 New Journey. ¤ ¤ 00:00:20.62\00:00:21.95 Jesus tells us that he came to set the captives free and on 00:00:52.18\00:00:57.85 today's program we have just such a captive who is now free. 00:00:57.89\00:01:03.53 Jeffrey, how are you doing today? 00:01:03.56\00:01:04.89 I'm doing wonderful. 00:01:04.93\00:01:06.53 Fantastic, Fantastic. Why don't you go ahead and tell us your 00:01:06.56\00:01:08.10 name and tell us where you're from. 00:01:08.13\00:01:09.46 My name is Jeffrey Cobb. I live now in Gainesville, Florida, but 00:01:09.50\00:01:13.37 originally I'm from Miami, Florida. 00:01:13.40\00:01:15.07 OK that's all right with me. So now I need you to take us and 00:01:15.10\00:01:19.77 walk us through Jeffrey Cobb, Gainesville, Florida to the life 00:01:19.81\00:01:24.51 that you eventually led and have been liberated from. Just walk 00:01:24.55\00:01:29.25 us through the early phases and stages of that experience. 00:01:29.28\00:01:33.25 When I was about 15 years old I was in the church, living for 00:01:33.32\00:01:37.63 Christ and what happened, my older brother, he got involved 00:01:37.66\00:01:41.90 with drugs; selling drugs, running with the women. So I 00:01:41.93\00:01:45.77 wanted to get involved with that. So sooner or later he 00:01:45.80\00:01:49.57 introduced me the drug game. After that there, the enemy just 00:01:49.60\00:01:55.28 took me deeper and deeper into the drug game where I was with 00:01:55.31\00:02:01.28 organizations. I also robbed, kidnapped, shoot outs, down with 00:02:01.35\00:02:07.29 crooked judges, lawyer and police officers for 20 years 00:02:07.32\00:02:10.46 of my life. So you were in the drug game now 00:02:10.49\00:02:11.89 I have a little background in the drug game myself but help 00:02:11.93\00:02:15.96 us understand the extent that you were in the drug game. 00:02:16.00\00:02:20.00 I mean there are guys nowadays, now lets just keep it real, just 00:02:20.04\00:02:23.07 me and you talking. There are guys in the drug game now that 00:02:23.10\00:02:25.51 say they were in the drug game because they stood on the corner 00:02:25.54\00:02:28.58 and chopped down a quarter piece or something like that. When I 00:02:28.61\00:02:31.68 quarter I mean just a small portion of cocaine. Tell us the 00:02:31.71\00:02:34.75 extent that you were in the drug game. 00:02:34.78\00:02:36.38 I in to the extent our widow organization, we were really 00:02:36.45\00:02:41.49 making over $70,000 a night. 00:02:41.52\00:02:43.56 My lord, my lord, my lord. So $70,000 a night. Now you said 00:02:43.59\00:02:48.70 drug game which people think the requisite is kidnapping and 00:02:48.73\00:02:52.27 shoot outs. Tell us how much of that were you involved in? 00:02:52.30\00:02:55.80 Now again, you and I talked just briefly before the show. We want 00:02:55.84\00:02:59.21 to get deep today. We want to get deep so that our audience 00:02:59.24\00:03:01.81 and our viewers understand the extent that someone can have 00:03:01.84\00:03:04.58 been in something but then can be delivered from it. Go ahead. 00:03:04.61\00:03:07.32 All my friends that I used to hang with in my Miami days 00:03:07.35\00:03:12.29 are dead except one and he has life in prison. When he went to 00:03:12.35\00:03:17.69 court the judge gave him life because he said he thought he 00:03:17.73\00:03:22.66 had license to kill people. So when the other one just got 00:03:22.70\00:03:27.67 buried three weeks ago in Miami, they found him in the lake in 00:03:27.70\00:03:32.64 his car with a bullet in the back of his head. That's the 00:03:32.67\00:03:35.51 type of people, these were my close friends, that I hung out 00:03:35.54\00:03:38.38 with every day in my life. 00:03:38.41\00:03:41.15 OK so were you ever up close and personal with not just a drug 00:03:41.18\00:03:44.65 gang but some of the other things, the other things that 00:03:44.69\00:03:48.76 you're telling us, the shoot outs, the kidnappings, whatever, 00:03:48.79\00:03:51.39 up close and personal on that stuff? 00:03:51.43\00:03:53.50 Oh yes, yes. I was in the middle of it. You know that was my life 00:03:53.53\00:03:57.93 As a matter of fact, when we did drug houses, I was the one 00:03:57.97\00:04:01.37 that would go in and establish these houses in different parts 00:04:01.40\00:04:04.77 of Miami. Oh wow, oh wow. We have this 00:04:04.81\00:04:09.11 young man, Gainesville, Florida, 15 years old, his brother gets 00:04:09.14\00:04:12.88 into the drug gang. He decides of course, like most of do, to 00:04:12.91\00:04:16.12 follow our big brother's foot steps. So here we are following 00:04:16.15\00:04:19.65 our big brother's footsteps. We find ourself in a life of drugs 00:04:19.69\00:04:23.19 crime, kidnappings, shoot outs. What was this doing to you 00:04:23.22\00:04:25.83 internally and personally. I mean at 15 years of age 00:04:25.86\00:04:28.13 you get into this type of life style. I mean, are you just 00:04:28.16\00:04:34.67 enjoying the ride or is there some 00:04:34.70\00:04:36.04 inner turmoil that's taking place? 00:04:36.07\00:04:37.41 Oh it was just you know, I believe in what you do be the 00:04:37.44\00:04:41.64 best at it. So I wanted to be the best. I wanted to be known 00:04:41.71\00:04:47.55 for that. So I can imagine, because I 00:04:47.58\00:04:51.45 remember growing up and getting into selling drugs and stuff. 00:04:51.49\00:04:55.22 And one of the reasons why I started selling drugs was 00:04:55.26\00:04:57.43 because my mother, who was on drugs, was constantly getting us 00:04:57.46\00:05:01.90 into debt. No lights, no ability to wash our clothes or anything 00:05:01.96\00:05:06.37 like that. So when the big homies put something in my hand 00:05:06.40\00:05:09.44 it wasn't for me to get cute and fly, it was to make sure that my 00:05:09.47\00:05:13.41 little brothers had something to eat. So now that did bring with 00:05:13.44\00:05:17.45 it a level of notoriety, if you will, because now I got on the 00:05:17.48\00:05:21.48 nice little, back when we wore Nike Cortez and khaki suits. 00:05:21.55\00:05:24.62 So now we got on the nice Nike Cortez, we've got on the Khaki 00:05:24.65\00:05:27.96 suits and the girls at the junior high school and the high 00:05:27.99\00:05:30.83 school were looking at us. Was there a certain amount of 00:05:30.86\00:05:33.60 notoriety that came, because you said you wanted to be the best 00:05:33.63\00:05:36.30 at it. So was you name just ringing throughout the city for 00:05:36.33\00:05:38.80 what you were doing and what you were known to be a part of? 00:05:38.83\00:05:43.10 Yes, the whole south end of Miami, like from about Universal 00:05:43.14\00:05:46.74 Miami all the way back down south. You know, we were known 00:05:46.78\00:05:51.41 where if anybody needed any drugs. I mean I have sold to 00:05:51.45\00:05:55.98 professional football players and all that stuff. We got high 00:05:56.05\00:05:59.32 together. Again, and I want to go deep 00:05:59.35\00:06:04.36 with you here, tell us, walk us through again, not just OK if 00:06:04.39\00:06:08.50 they wanted to get drugs, they knew this, they knew that, tell 00:06:08.53\00:06:11.60 us what was the word on the street about Jeffrey Cobb? I'm 00:06:11.63\00:06:14.67 sure that's not what they called your name. 00:06:14.70\00:06:16.24 No you never used your real name. So tell us what did 00:06:16.27\00:06:20.18 someone know about a Jeffrey Cobb, like at that stage and 00:06:20.21\00:06:24.11 how long did this take place, from 15 to what age? 00:06:24.15\00:06:27.02 To 35. So from 15 to 35 when the name, 00:06:27.05\00:06:31.82 or the name associated with, Jeffrey Cobb came up what was 00:06:31.85\00:06:35.62 the conversation like? What would people say? 00:06:35.66\00:06:38.53 It was the conversation was hey any kind of drugs you need you 00:06:38.56\00:06:43.73 can go to him and get it but he was dealing with his two best 00:06:43.77\00:06:47.67 friends who were two of the most dangerous guys in Miami. 00:06:47.70\00:06:51.54 So you knew, and everyone knew that if they ran across Jeffrey 00:06:51.57\00:06:55.51 Cobb that they could get any type of drug they wanted, but 00:06:55.54\00:06:59.91 also be careful because if it went there it could go bad. 00:06:59.98\00:07:04.32 It's the consequences. I remember an incident 00:07:04.35\00:07:07.92 of one of my friends, the one that got life in prison, me and 00:07:07.96\00:07:11.29 a guy got in an argument and I just left it alone and went on. 00:07:11.33\00:07:15.06 And then my guys called and said hey man you're partner done draw 00:07:15.10\00:07:18.80 the gun and finished shooting this guy and he didn't have 00:07:18.83\00:07:21.67 nothing to do with it. He just heard me and this guy got into 00:07:21.70\00:07:25.77 it. That's the way we were believed in one thing in Miami, 00:07:25.81\00:07:28.91 when you say you've got a person's back they mean they 00:07:28.94\00:07:32.01 have a person's back. 00:07:32.05\00:07:34.55 So now we're selling drugs and there's an age-old adage or 00:07:34.58\00:07:38.35 warning, don't get high off your own supply. Did you find 00:07:38.39\00:07:42.09 yourself dabbling in any of the drugs that you were now moving? 00:07:42.12\00:07:45.73 Yes, I became my best customer. 00:07:45.76\00:07:47.36 Tell us about that. 00:07:47.40\00:07:48.73 Most of the average people, two things happen to you. You 00:07:48.76\00:07:53.44 get killed or you become your own customer, best own customer 00:07:53.47\00:07:58.57 and I started dibbing and dabbing with the girls. But 00:07:58.61\00:08:02.98 what happened was my brother, the one that I looked up to as 00:08:03.04\00:08:07.02 my god, he got killed on a motorcycle. So enough of that. 00:08:07.08\00:08:10.75 I saw him. He was coming back to me. He got killed on a 00:08:10.79\00:08:14.42 motorcycle. So right then that was my god, that was everything. 00:08:14.46\00:08:18.26 And after that I started using my own products. 00:08:18.29\00:08:21.83 So now wait a minute. When you say that he got killed, did 00:08:21.86\00:08:23.77 someone kill him or did he have a motorcycle accident? 00:08:23.80\00:08:25.63 A motorcycle accident. 00:08:25.67\00:08:27.00 OK, did you start with marijuana or did you go straight into... 00:08:27.04\00:08:31.61 because they say that marijuana is a gateway drug, OK. So did 00:08:31.64\00:08:35.31 you start with marijuana and then move into doing cocaine 00:08:35.34\00:08:38.61 doing a little powder or then crack. I mean, was it a gradual 00:08:38.65\00:08:41.88 progression or after that happened you jumped right into 00:08:41.92\00:08:45.22 crack cocaine or snorting? 00:08:45.25\00:08:47.62 No, it was a gradual situation where I wasn't getting high at 00:08:47.66\00:08:51.99 the time. Matter of fact, I was in high school and I was the top 00:08:52.06\00:08:56.36 running back in football in Miami. After that I took the 00:08:56.40\00:09:00.67 drug game and after that I started doing the marijuana and 00:09:00.70\00:09:06.34 then after that because that was my all. So then I went to the 00:09:06.37\00:09:12.01 powder cocaine, then I went to the crack. 00:09:12.05\00:09:14.52 So now that we're using the crack cocaine... One thing I 00:09:14.55\00:09:19.45 noted growing up in L.A. you know you have a bunch of guys 00:09:19.49\00:09:24.56 that are from a certain hood, I hung around my uncle who was 00:09:24.59\00:09:28.26 one of the Crypts and I was an east coast Crip. Now my uncle 00:09:28.33\00:09:32.50 was from the Over Crypts. They had stripes. I'm talking hard 00:09:32.53\00:09:36.40 core stripes, well known for putting hands on you, well known 00:09:36.44\00:09:40.14 for shooting the cat down, but then when the crack hit the 00:09:40.18\00:09:43.85 streets and they became crack heads, the guys that used to 00:09:43.88\00:09:47.88 look up to them now saw them as weak and enfeebled and preyed 00:09:47.92\00:09:50.99 on them. Did any of that happen with you where the guys who were 00:09:51.02\00:09:54.59 once feared you, now they see that Jeff is now using his own 00:09:54.62\00:09:58.16 stuff and he's out there as a dope fiend. Did anybody say you 00:09:58.19\00:10:01.76 know what we can take him now. Did you have guys lose the 00:10:01.80\00:10:05.30 respect they one had? Did that aura get dimmed, that invincible 00:10:05.33\00:10:09.37 aura, was it dimmed at all? 00:10:09.40\00:10:11.14 Absolutely. Once I got to that state they was like OK. Because 00:10:11.17\00:10:16.18 once you start getting high on your drugs, you lose all respect 00:10:16.21\00:10:21.68 You know you're not sharp as you used to be. And you're getting 00:10:21.72\00:10:27.16 older and you've got the younger cats coming and they 00:10:27.19\00:10:31.53 want that spot. They want to be known because we hold that down 00:10:31.56\00:10:35.26 for a long time, a long time. 00:10:35.30\00:10:37.17 Again, and I like to paint a picture. So we have this young 00:10:37.20\00:10:42.37 man, Gainesville, Florida, his brother gets into the drug game, 00:10:42.40\00:10:46.54 15 years old, even though he's well on his way to being one of 00:10:46.57\00:10:50.71 the top running backs in the area, he gets into the drug 00:10:50.75\00:10:53.52 game. There's an air of invincibility that accompanies 00:10:53.55\00:10:57.45 him and his crew that he's running with. He's dabbling in 00:10:57.49\00:11:01.16 the drug game, selling a number of different drugs and 00:11:01.19\00:11:04.59 eventually succumbs to an addiction himself. That air of 00:11:04.63\00:11:09.76 invincibility is now tainted. How did you keep up with your 00:11:09.80\00:11:14.57 addiction and your habit if now you're not the top dog anymore? 00:11:14.60\00:11:19.34 What happened, you know, the enemy opened up after that it 00:11:19.37\00:11:25.41 was the older guy that kind of took me under his wings and 00:11:25.45\00:11:29.82 I'm talking about he was in an organization like I said before 00:11:29.85\00:11:34.06 with police officers. We used to go to clubs and get high. 00:11:34.09\00:11:38.19 So once he opened the door I was like OK. Because these that boat 00:11:38.23\00:11:45.47 loads. They don't want that bringing in. So right then it 00:11:45.50\00:11:49.50 was like OK I aren't got to pay for nothing. You know it's free. 00:11:49.57\00:11:53.51 I want to go back to something. I hadn't just skipped over this 00:11:53.54\00:11:57.08 on purpose. I wanted to come back to this. So you're telling 00:11:57.11\00:12:00.62 me you're in an organization where you're getting drugs from 00:12:00.65\00:12:04.29 police officers. It was rumored around my way. I went to a 00:12:04.32\00:12:07.86 school called Hyde Park Elementary, well known hangout 00:12:07.89\00:12:11.29 spot for the Rollin 60s and Crypts. My cousin was a Rollin 00:12:11.33\00:12:14.76 60 Crip. He's now resting in peace, he's now dead. In the 00:12:14.80\00:12:18.13 height of the 80s, I'm an 80s baby myself, well born and lived 00:12:18.17\00:12:22.20 through the 80s, in the height of the 80s it was said that some 00:12:22.24\00:12:26.17 of the drug dealers around the area could have, if necessary, 00:12:26.24\00:12:30.15 gotten a fighter plane for someone. This is how well 00:12:30.18\00:12:34.08 connected they were through the government who were bringing 00:12:34.12\00:12:37.42 these, like you said, boatloads of cocaine into the states. 00:12:37.45\00:12:40.36 So you're telling me you were rubbing shoulders with some of 00:12:40.39\00:12:43.29 these very same guys. 00:12:43.32\00:12:44.86 Same guys. Same guys. Like you say 1980, if you look back 00:12:44.89\00:12:50.80 that's whenever the drugs were coming in so plenty into Miami 00:12:50.83\00:12:56.40 and it was taken to Atlanta. And they had others who in Atlanta 00:12:56.47\00:13:02.01 were saying we want the guys from Miami out of Atlanta 00:13:02.04\00:13:05.51 because of the killing, the murder rate, all that went up. 00:13:05.55\00:13:09.38 And so whenever anybody needed those articles, whether through 00:13:09.45\00:13:13.36 one, two, three, or four degrees of separation are related to a 00:13:13.39\00:13:17.26 Jeffrey Cobb. Yes, yes. 00:13:17.29\00:13:19.19 OK. So now the drug game, the killing, the kidnapping 00:13:19.23\00:13:25.33 eventually leads to one place. We always say this, there are no 00:13:25.37\00:13:29.34 retired drug dealers. Right. You end up one place dead or in 00:13:29.37\00:13:33.34 jail. You're alive, so I'm assuming that you're passage 00:13:33.38\00:13:36.44 here led through jail. Tell us about that. 00:13:36.48\00:13:38.31 Yes, it was one thing when I was out there when I came into my 00:13:38.35\00:13:42.22 addiction, I knew there was a better life but I couldn't put 00:13:42.25\00:13:46.29 my hands on it. I couldn't put my hand on it and then you know 00:13:46.32\00:13:50.36 as I kept going and what happened on my last episode, I 00:13:50.39\00:13:57.17 sold to undercover. But what I did, I robbed undercover. I sold 00:13:57.20\00:14:01.70 him the dope and took the dope and the money. So I was on the 00:14:01.77\00:14:05.91 run and what happened there, I had a daughter that was 10 years 00:14:05.94\00:14:10.28 and she walked up to me. I just give her money, hey Babe. She 00:14:10.35\00:14:15.18 was like Daddy you going to always leave me, keep leaving 00:14:15.22\00:14:19.95 me. Then right then something hit me that said, I'm supposed 00:14:20.02\00:14:24.73 to be telling her but like she's got more sense than me. Then 00:14:24.76\00:14:28.93 right then registered to me and what I did, I went and turned 00:14:28.96\00:14:33.77 myself in to the police department. 00:14:33.80\00:14:35.14 Wow, turn yourself in is a big thing. I remember having a 00:14:35.17\00:14:39.01 little case hanging over my head they said you got to turn 00:14:39.04\00:14:44.41 yourself in. I waited as long as I could. So did you do one 00:14:44.45\00:14:49.75 prison stint or multiple. Tell us about that. 00:14:49.78\00:14:53.42 All right. They have seven detention centers in Miami. 00:14:53.46\00:14:58.13 I did time in six of six months or better and I have been to 00:14:58.16\00:15:01.76 prison four times. 00:15:01.80\00:15:03.57 OK, so now you've been to prison four times. What was the longest 00:15:03.60\00:15:05.80 time that you were in there? Five years. 00:15:05.83\00:15:07.17 Five year. So was this during, after or before the drug 00:15:07.20\00:15:13.48 addiction? It was in the middle. 00:15:13.51\00:15:17.21 So did you ever do any time while you were at the height of 00:15:17.25\00:15:20.58 your trafficking? No because when you're with this 00:15:20.62\00:15:25.72 type of organization, you know, police officers, they let you 00:15:25.75\00:15:28.49 know what's happening, what time of day, you know it is. 00:15:28.52\00:15:32.29 As a matter of fact, most of the officers that were in the 00:15:32.33\00:15:35.76 organization, they got busted and went to prison. They turned 00:15:35.80\00:15:39.20 into users too. Wow, wow. In California when you 00:15:39.23\00:15:44.17 go to jail, there's an understanding, if you will, that 00:15:44.21\00:15:50.28 Bloods and Crypts and in Southern California there's what 00:15:50.31\00:15:53.55 we call the South Siders. Then the South Siders, when you're 00:15:53.58\00:15:56.65 going to jail, you have an understanding that the blacks, 00:15:56.69\00:15:59.75 until you get to state where's there a BGF, Black Family and 00:15:59.79\00:16:02.89 all of that when you're in county, man, there's the Bloods, 00:16:02.92\00:16:05.93 there's the Crypts, there's the South Siders, there's the Poisons, there's the 00:16:05.96\00:16:10.27 White Boys and each person they kind of click with one another. 00:16:10.30\00:16:14.54 So when we get in jail Bloods and Crypts know we're out 00:16:14.57\00:16:17.54 numbered by the Hispanics about four or five to one. So we click 00:16:17.57\00:16:21.21 up. Irrespective of if I didn't like you on the street, you may 00:16:21.24\00:16:24.18 have been a Blood on the street, I'm a Crip on the street, when 00:16:24.21\00:16:27.38 we get to the county, boy, we got to click up because we know 00:16:27.42\00:16:30.52 we're outnumbered by the Hispanics. Now I don't know in 00:16:30.55\00:16:33.82 your day if the Bloods and Crypts had spread to Miami, but 00:16:33.86\00:16:36.49 was there a similar feel in jail? 00:16:36.52\00:16:38.36 Right, it was similar because there were certain cells that 00:16:38.39\00:16:43.33 the officers wouldn't put you in. They'd say no don't put him 00:16:43.37\00:16:48.07 in there because they have certain floors that certain guys 00:16:48.10\00:16:52.94 were in. You know when I went in there it was a cell called B4 00:16:52.97\00:16:57.78 That was all the big drug dealers. So I went right in 00:16:57.81\00:17:02.38 there. When I went in there and one of the guys that was real up 00:17:02.42\00:17:08.16 there, he was like hey man, I always wanted to hire you but 00:17:08.19\00:17:12.53 you was too crazy man. You was too loose, man you didn't fear 00:17:12.56\00:17:16.87 nothing. So I went in that cell with them. 00:17:16.90\00:17:19.93 OK because what I'm alluding to and what I'm trying to draw out 00:17:19.97\00:17:22.97 of you here is how was it surviving having been at the top 00:17:23.00\00:17:27.74 falling from the top in prison. Sometimes when you go in prison 00:17:28.61\00:17:31.21 the cats knew you on the streets for certain things, you got a 00:17:31.25\00:17:34.58 target on you. Other times, because you did click with the 00:17:34.62\00:17:37.95 right people you have a protection around you. 00:17:37.99\00:17:40.39 In your four or five different prison stents, which did you 00:17:40.42\00:17:44.96 experience more of, the target on your back or the protection. 00:17:44.99\00:17:49.40 This really wasn't protection, because you got to understand, 00:17:49.43\00:17:53.23 I don't care where you go all over the world, if you say 00:17:53.27\00:17:57.37 you're from Miami, you all automatic bond. So most of the 00:17:57.41\00:18:02.14 prison system in Florida was from Miami. So wherever you went 00:18:02.18\00:18:06.31 you know it was like hey there was a lot who knew me. When I 00:18:06.35\00:18:09.98 got there it was like hey man you all right? You now this and 00:18:10.02\00:18:13.62 that. It was the protection. 00:18:13.66\00:18:16.19 OK so here's who you are, Jeffrey Cobb, Gainesville, 00:18:16.22\00:18:21.30 Florida, selling drugs in Miami, drug game, following your 00:18:21.33\00:18:25.23 brother, selling drugs, killing, murder, kidnap, I mean just the 00:18:25.27\00:18:29.07 whole gamut, in and out of 00:18:29.10\00:18:30.57 jail. You get high on your own supply, develop an addiction. 00:18:30.61\00:18:34.18 It clicks in your head one day when your 10-year-old daughter 00:18:34.21\00:18:37.18 is like man are you going to always leave me. So that's where 00:18:37.21\00:18:41.95 you've been. How did you get here? I see it on you, I see it 00:18:41.98\00:18:45.85 on you, but there is still a calm, a peace about you, that 00:18:45.89\00:18:49.22 I'm sure you didn't have then. How did you get here? When did 00:18:49.26\00:18:52.56 Christ intervene in your life? 00:18:52.59\00:18:53.96 It was only Christ because you know when I made up my mind that 00:18:54.00\00:18:59.03 was it, when my daughter spoke that, I went to God just like I 00:18:59.07\00:19:03.94 approached somebody that owed me for my drugs. I said Lord I want 00:19:03.97\00:19:08.81 to know the truth and nothing but the truth. At that time, I 00:19:08.84\00:19:12.25 went into court and the judge said he didn't even want to see 00:19:12.31\00:19:16.99 my face for another year. They were saying what are you facing? 00:19:17.02\00:19:23.83 I said 30 to life and I was like whoa. I said Lord I'm done. I 00:19:23.86\00:19:30.63 want to know you just to be straight up, I talked to the 00:19:30.67\00:19:33.23 Lord. I want to be straight up. I want to know you. I said, you 00:19:33.27\00:19:36.91 get me out of this one, I will serve you for the rest of my 00:19:36.94\00:19:40.54 life. Listen, now what are you doing? 00:19:40.58\00:19:43.71 How long ago was that? 00:19:43.75\00:19:46.21 That was 15 years ago. 00:19:46.25\00:19:48.65 Fifteen years ago. So what you been doing for 15 years.? 00:19:48.68\00:19:52.22 After 15 years, man, God has called me to do a ministry, 00:19:52.25\00:19:55.69 Shelter From the Storm. Housing men and women released from jail 00:19:55.72\00:20:00.93 and prison. So is that a half-way house? 00:20:00.96\00:20:04.67 A transition house. A transition house. So tell us 00:20:04.73\00:20:07.94 about a transition house. What does that mean? 00:20:07.97\00:20:11.14 In a transition house, you have men and women that were in 00:20:11.17\00:20:15.51 prison. A lot of them accept the message and when they get out 00:20:15.54\00:20:19.38 they don't want to go back to their old environment. Because 00:20:19.41\00:20:23.25 if I would have went back to Miami, I wouldn't have 00:20:23.28\00:20:25.62 been here talking to you. So what that do allow them to come 00:20:25.65\00:20:29.22 somewhere where they can strengthen their relationship 00:20:29.26\00:20:33.23 with Christ. And also with someone as myself and others 00:20:33.26\00:20:37.17 have been through what they've been through and as we go into 00:20:37.20\00:20:41.07 the prison and preach, once they get out we receive them and 00:20:41.10\00:20:44.94 help them walk through this new life style. 00:20:44.97\00:20:47.74 So not only are you housing them but you're also going back into 00:20:47.78\00:20:51.35 the prisons and ministering. Amen. So what is the response? 00:20:51.38\00:20:56.35 Have you run into someone who knew you then who sees you now. 00:20:56.38\00:21:02.39 Oh yes. A prison wanted me to come and preach in that prison 00:21:02.42\00:21:08.40 where I first did my time. As a matter of fact, my 00:21:08.43\00:21:12.07 brother-in-law that was dating my sister, he got life in prison 00:21:12.10\00:21:15.94 so when I came to preach he looked at me and some of the 00:21:15.97\00:21:19.41 guys that had life; they were like no man. Is that you? I said 00:21:19.47\00:21:24.45 yes it's me. My lord, my lord. So all of that 00:21:24.48\00:21:29.78 leads to the last 15 years you reaching back to people like 00:21:29.85\00:21:34.09 yourself, people who have addictions, people who were once 00:21:34.12\00:21:37.49 caught up in the drug game, people who looked like they had 00:21:37.53\00:21:41.10 no hope in prison. The Lord is now using you to preach and 00:21:41.13\00:21:44.37 minister to them both in prison and when released from prison. 00:21:44.40\00:21:48.77 Here's what I need you to do. I need you right now to look... 00:21:48.80\00:21:53.88 Because here's the thing, a lot of times when we get out of 00:21:53.94\00:21:58.95 those situations because we have nowhere else to go, the easiest 00:21:58.98\00:22:05.02 thing for us to do is to go right back. 00:22:05.05\00:22:08.46 Go back to what you know. 00:22:08.49\00:22:09.82 Yeah, and people call it being institutionalized. My little 00:22:09.86\00:22:12.66 brother, who's now serving time in Arizona, every time he would 00:22:12.69\00:22:16.46 get out, man, every time he would get out, I would say 00:22:16.50\00:22:18.90 listen, just come with me, just come with me. I started doing 00:22:18.93\00:22:22.44 the rap music thing and there was something in him that he 00:22:22.47\00:22:27.44 could be with me for so long before he went back. Before you 00:22:27.48\00:22:32.45 speak to them, have you experienced that where you give 00:22:32.48\00:22:34.28 these people this opportunity. You give them the opportunity 00:22:34.32\00:22:37.72 to come out and then they still feel the lure of the street and 00:22:37.75\00:22:40.99 they end up going back, like the Bible says, a dog returning 00:22:41.02\00:22:44.23 to its vomit. Oh yes. I experienced that 00:22:44.26\00:22:47.56 through this ministry. God has been using me to do this 00:22:47.60\00:22:50.97 ministry 10 years. And it hurts because you see them right on 00:22:51.00\00:22:55.90 the brink of breaking but nothing you can do but present 00:22:55.94\00:23:00.11 Christ to them. And you see them go back and it's heart wrenching 00:23:00.18\00:23:04.58 to see them go back. 00:23:04.61\00:23:06.41 OK then what I need you to do, I want you to take the next 00:23:06.45\00:23:09.72 couple of minutes and there's a camera right over my shoulder. 00:23:09.75\00:23:12.99 I want you to look into that camera. There's someone out 00:23:13.02\00:23:15.66 there. There's a couple of people I want you to address. 00:23:15.72\00:23:18.29 Number one, the person who feels like there is no hope. There is 00:23:18.33\00:23:21.93 no hope. Some people who would rather stay in prison because 00:23:21.96\00:23:25.43 they know once they get on the streets they got nobody. Those 00:23:25.50\00:23:28.64 who feel there is no hope, number one. Those who are on the 00:23:28.70\00:23:32.47 brink of breaking from the life style but don't know that it's 00:23:32.51\00:23:35.68 possible, but there's a Jeffrey Cobb here who can tell I them 00:23:35.71\00:23:38.28 that it is. I want you to speak to those two groups of people 00:23:38.31\00:23:40.85 right over my shoulder. 00:23:40.88\00:23:42.22 I just want to let someone know that your only hope is in Christ 00:23:42.25\00:23:47.39 Christ can break that addiction and someone that don't have 00:23:47.42\00:23:52.49 nowhere to go, just pray and the Lord will open up a door. And if 00:23:52.53\00:23:59.43 you call me and we have space in the house then I'll be glad to 00:23:59.47\00:24:06.37 take you. I understand. And one thing just don't give up. 00:24:06.41\00:24:10.41 I never gave up. Even in my addiction I knew there was a 00:24:10.45\00:24:14.38 better life and I'm letting you know now it's a better life in 00:24:14.45\00:24:18.52 Jesus. A better life, but what you said 00:24:18.55\00:24:22.16 was a better life in Jesus. I mean, I understand the mentoring 00:24:22.19\00:24:26.39 you're doing. Tell us more about your better life just quickly, 00:24:26.43\00:24:30.60 about your better life in Jesus. 00:24:30.63\00:24:32.63 No words can explain. I could sit here all day and no words 00:24:32.67\00:24:38.64 can explain the peace and the calm and the beauty of a 00:24:38.67\00:24:43.88 changed life in walking with Christ. 00:24:43.91\00:24:45.95 So that daughter of yours, what's your relationship right 00:24:46.01\00:24:50.62 now. We have a wonderful relationship 00:24:50.65\00:24:53.15 How does she feel about the change and the ministry that 00:24:53.19\00:24:55.06 you're undertaking? Oh she always says, Dad, you 00:24:55.09\00:24:58.23 know she calls me Daddy. She be calling me and checking on me. 00:24:58.29\00:25:03.13 Our relationship is so good she told me I need to stay single 00:25:03.16\00:25:07.87 because if I get married I'm going to be taking some of her 00:25:07.90\00:25:12.57 time. So again, this is such a 00:25:12.61\00:25:17.41 beautiful story of a 15-year-old young boy, if we be honest, who 00:25:17.45\00:25:24.95 gets lost in the drug game, begins to keep company with 00:25:24.99\00:25:28.92 murderers, drug dealers, thieves drug addicts. I mean, it's known 00:25:28.99\00:25:34.00 around the city for being cut throat, known around the city 00:25:34.03\00:25:39.27 for being someone who they say you can get it for cheap. He 00:25:39.30\00:25:42.84 eventually succumbs to a crack addition after losing his 00:25:42.87\00:25:46.41 brother, the guy who you said was a god. He was taking the 00:25:46.44\00:25:49.94 place of Jesus in your life. Yes. 00:25:49.98\00:25:51.48 He loses his brother, gets addicted to the product that 00:25:51.51\00:25:54.68 he's selling. This product causes him to go in and out of 00:25:54.72\00:25:57.79 prison, in and out of prison and then there's a break when his 00:25:57.82\00:26:01.29 10-year-old daughter says dad are you going to keep leaving 00:26:01.32\00:26:06.39 me? From there the Lord begins to speak to you. You then find 00:26:06.43\00:26:12.23 yourself for the last 15 years ministering to people who feel 00:26:12.27\00:26:16.67 like they have no hope, who feel that they're lost in the life 00:26:16.71\00:26:21.08 style that you escaped from. And experiencing a joy in Jesus that 00:26:21.14\00:26:25.48 to use your words, is indescribable and unspeakable, 00:26:25.51\00:26:29.85 enjoying not only that but enjoying a mended relationship 00:26:29.88\00:26:33.66 with your daughter, a relationship with your daughter. 00:26:33.69\00:26:37.39 She doesn't even want you to be with anyone else because then 00:26:37.43\00:26:40.50 it would interfere with what you're able to do and give to 00:26:40.53\00:26:44.50 her. Yes. Praise God, Praise God. I mean if we were somewhere 00:26:44.53\00:26:48.47 else Jeff we might have a praise break right now. 00:26:48.50\00:26:50.64 Amen, amen. I just want to praise God for 00:26:50.67\00:26:54.68 your story. Do you have a web site for your ministry? 00:26:54.71\00:26:58.81 No, not at the time. Is there an address? 00:26:58.85\00:27:02.25 The address is: 00:27:02.28\00:27:11.09 One more time: 00:27:11.13\00:27:19.87 This has been surely a story of God fulfilling the mission that 00:27:19.93\00:27:27.08 he first proposed in Isaiah, that Jesus came, in Luke 00:27:27.11\00:27:30.25 chapter four, stood up and he rolled open a scroll. Then it 00:27:30.28\00:27:33.55 wasn't a Bible, where you flip pages. You roll the scroll, you 00:27:33.62\00:27:37.45 go here and there, here a little there a little and Jesus opened 00:27:37.49\00:27:40.82 up the scroll and what he said in the book of Luke is that he 00:27:40.86\00:27:45.93 sent here to set the captives free, to liberate the oppressed, 00:27:45.96\00:27:50.47 to take the yoke of bondage off the downtrodden and on today's 00:27:50.50\00:27:55.10 program we have heard firsthand from Jeffrey Cobb what it is 00:27:55.14\00:27:59.71 like when you dare to dream and embark upon a new journey. 00:27:59.74\00:28:04.28 God bless you. 00:28:04.31\00:28:05.95
