part of our prayer journey...

is recognizing that
we are actually engaged

in spiritual warfare

engaged in these battles...

we're engaged in wars...

some of them we can see...

aware of these battles

we are unaware of the
battles that are around us,

sometimes, we can feel
the sting of these wounds...

we can taste and touch and
feel the blows of the engagement

that we have... while engaging
in our spiritual warfare,

but, in order for us
now to be able to understand

talks about prayer...

the definitions of prayer

are things like
wrestling... striving...

it denotes some kind of
physical energy and strength

being exerted in prayer

and so we may just
bow our heads to pray

and we think, "Okay,
where would you send a prayer?"

Which is true...
but the spiritual aspect

or the spiritual-warfare
aspect of prayer

suggests that we would spend
some time battling with God

as we saw Jacob in his situation
battling there for his blessing

and so, that's the nature
of prayer as spiritual warfare

and it should not
be a surprise to us

God... our Creator,

actually said that we
are living in the war zone

because if we look
at Genesis 3 verse 15,

He said, "I will
make you and the woman

hostile toward each other.

I will make your
descendants and her descendants

hostile toward each other.

He will crush your head,
and you will bruise his heel. "

So, we see there, a
lot of the hostility

there's a lot of
contention going on

so, if we, for a
moment, are tempted to believe

waited in aspects of our lives

fights to dominate

so there's this battle
that is constantly happening

sometimes in our minds.

great controversy is real

between good and evil.

and sometimes we can
see the war happening

in our relationship with others

we have different disagreements
and arguments with persons...

whether physical or just,

you know, emotional or mental

we're engaging in these types
of mental battles as well...

and so, we have these struggles
going on with people every day

things that we can see...

itself in our physical life

Paul was really in
writing about spiritual warfare,

though we walk in the flesh,

we are not waging war
according to the flesh. "

he's talking about our body...

Paul is making it clear

having all these arguments

and these disagreements
with our family members...

people on the job and so on...
the bus driver... anybody at all

we are going through
all of that in the flesh...

Corinthians it says,

"We are waging
war in the flesh... "

but not according
to the flesh, right?

the fight that we are having

he says, "It is not
against flesh and blood... "

it's not against human agents...
it's not against human beings

but instead, it's
against evil rulers...

this dark world...

and so, now we need to
backtrack a little bit...

we are waging war
against spiritual wickedness

in high places but
the Bible is talking about

the forces that
govern this world?

You see, because when
God created Adam and Eve,

He created them and, of
course, us... in His likeness

and when He did that,

He gave us
dominion over everything...

I'm saying, "Us"
meaning "Us" as man...

you know, the whole human race.

So, He gave Adam
dominion over everything...

but when Satan deceived Eve

and essentially
deceived both Adam and Eve,

what they did was to give
the dominion over to him...

because now they...

they were in
alliance with him for a moment

because they didn't realize

that he was going to
take over their dominion...

he wanted to rule over heaven

because remember, he wanted to
sit on the right hand of God...

dominion over the earth.

this text and it talks about

spiritual wickedness in high
places and in this earthly realm

of how he became owner of this

governs the earthly realms

that we are fighting
against these... these beings

so, he blinds the minds
of those who don't believe...

one-third of the angels...

he just instilled doubt...

to divide and conquer

look at the garden...

when he got Eve...
when she was away from Adam

and then he tried to persuade
her or instill doubt in her

to go against
what God had told her

that all throughout history.

he... he really wants to win...

his position is
just about winning...

anything to deceive

deception of all for us

recognize that we are in a war

we'll be comfortable...

the daily battles are there

to get us out of that mindset

God brought this to me

because I was going through
a personal struggle myself

contending with God in my mind

and I prayed and I
was really pressing Him,

for a prayer service

and I was thinking, what
am I going to speak about?

I really wanted
a fresher message

because I had a
bunch of messages on prayer

but I felt deeply impressed

that I needed something
new... something fresh...

and as I woke up that morning,

God continued to
give me this verse,

Ephesians 6 verse 12, it
kept repeating in my mind

able to write a sermon

and I was amazed at
the impact that it had

and I thought to myself,

"Lord, I have not
even processed that food...

how come that "food" was
so palatable to the church?"

only a week and a half later

struggling with Him...

he said to me, "I
gave you that Word for you"

so, yes, that Word was able
to bless people at the church

but that Word was
also a Word for you...

that He gave me was:

1. We actually
fight the wrong battles!

So, here we are seeing
in Ephesians 6 verse 12,

we are seeing... we
are engaging in war...

but what kind of war

or what kind of
battles are we engaging in?

Because there He says,

"Okay, we are engaging
in the wrong battles... "

so, can you
imagine going to war...

fighting for a
cause... any cause at all...

but you don't even know,

you're fighting...

when we go into history...

research about war

the Vietnam War history

people are still struggling

as to why it is
they actually went to war

over 1.3 million
people died in that war

collectively...

and to date... we still
do not have an exact reason

imagine going to war...

the reason behind it,
