extraordinary strength...

like, we could look at
the David and Goliath story

and if we think of giants,

we might think that
these people are powerful

or Samson... a better example...

when he actually put his
hands to these two pillars

and was able to push them,

we can say he was strong
but we also say he was powerful

because it
denotes that strength...

and so, it also refers sometimes
to the influence that we have

when we look at light

where we get our light from,

comes from the Power Company,

and so, power also denotes
that thing about light...

And so, we're looking at power
in these different contexts

so, when it comes to prayer,

So, in prayer sometimes,
we say, "A prayer is powerful"

intensity of that prayer

story of Hannah, for example,

we know that was
an intense prayer.

That prayer was
like, from the heart...

from the foot... from
every part of her body...

it was intense, it
was deep, it was heavy

and so we look at prayer
and we think about intensity,

the depth of that
prayer, and so on.

Then we also look at prayer as
having exerted certain strength

Jacob wrestling with God,

he exerted a lot of
strength in that prayer

because the Bible
says, "He wrestled...

he wrestled
until the daybreak... "

that was a lot of wrestling...

he must been tired
just like you today

because you played basketball.

So, Jacob was wrestling...
exerting all of that strength

and we talk about that as power.

Then power can also refer
to the ability of that prayer

You know, many times
we pray these prayers

but they don't go very far

refer to those prayers

far beyond the ceiling.

he actually said a prayer...

because, he said,

"May your God, whom
you serve continually,

deliver you!"

Now, he said that
prayer because he gave an order

powerful prayers in the Bible.

When we look at his story...

you see, because there Elijah
actually rebukes King Ahab

and he defeats also the
prophets of... at Mount Carmel.

run for a long time,

he was like a fugitive,

but Elijah
eventually got out of the cave

bold... he went to Ahab,

"Yo, you've been

He went there
with this assurance

because he was
tired of running and...

in fact, God had asked him
to get out of that cave anyhow,

so he was really
living in obedience

and so Elijah
presented himself to Ahab...

"You've been looking for me. "

Whether he
addressed him as, "Sir... "

whichever shout-out he gave

"But I'm here... and I heard
you've been looking for me. "

And the king
looks to him and says,

"Hey, you troublemaker... "

so, Elijah says... I
like to make it come alive

because these
stories are so exciting

so the king, in verse
18, he says to Elijah,

"You troublemaker... "
00:07:37.85\00:07:39.19
and Elijah boldly defends
himself... and he's like,

"You know what? I'm
not the troublemaker...
00:07:41.76\00:07:43.32
in fact, you and
your household...
00:07:43.36\00:07:45.59
you guys are
the troublemakers. "

Now, Elijah goes to
him, and Elijah says,

"You guys are the troublemakers,
I'm not a troublemaker

because you and your people
have no regard for my God. "

That's why Elijah was referring
to them as troublemakers

and essentially said to them,

"So, because you
have no regard for my God,

I have a proposal for you"

and there he charges the king,

"You get all
these prophets of Baal

you get all
these other prophets,

you get all of them and
let's have a showdown today. "

Hmmm...

"Let's just get
this party started

so we can see who
the real God is. "

Yeah.

You see, Elijah went
into the community...

he called everybody,

"Come... we're going
to have a showdown today.

we will know who
the real God is. "

And so, we are told that
all of these people gathered

and then these prophets of Baal

began to petition their gods.

They began to cut themselves,
they began to shout...

they began to dance and
they did all sorts of stuff

and I could only imagine
Elijah in the sidelines...

"Shout a little louder...
jump a little higher...

more... cut yourself more... "

you can imagine
him taunting them

because these guys
are going on for hours...

the Bible says, it
went on until evening time

petitioning their gods

and by evening, Elijah is like,

"Okay, you guys
aren't tired yet?"

Now by that time,

you could imagine the crowd that
was there earlier in the day

had already thinned out big time

because no action was happening,
Elijah promised them action

Elijah goes back and says,

"People, come, come,
come back people come back. "

"Come near" he says,

"I need all of
you to hear this. "

So, you remember they
had broken down the walls

and the altars and so on...

so Elijah began to rebuild one

just putting stones and so on,

he says, "You know what?

I'm going to just put
some wood here and so on...

now, I need you guys to
help me get some water... "

and so, they began to
throw water on that altar

then he began to dig round it

and make that
trench... that gutter...

and said, "Pour
water in there also"

that's big time
show, you know...

so Elijah is there asking them,
"Throw the barrels of water"

and the Bible says...

I think they threw
about 12 of them on that thing

and then Elijah utters a
prayer in 1st Kings 18:36 to 37,

he says, "Oh Lord, the God
of Abraham, Isaac and Israel,

today let it be known
that you are God in Israel

and that I am Your servant

and I have done all
these things at Your word.

Answer me, O Lord, answer me,

that these people may
know that You O Lord, are God,

and You have turned
their hearts back again. "

And so, Elijah
offers that prayer,

God immediately sends fire

to the Bible, was licked up...

in that one prayer,

"The fire of the Lord fell
and consumed the burnt offering

and the wood and
the stones and the dust,

and licked it up...

all the water that
was in the trench. "

So it didn't
just burn the altar...

everything in its way was gone

and so, Elijah proved his point.

Not only did he
serve the true God...

hears and answers prayers.

You see, and that's the kind
of power we are talking about,

this is a powerful response
to a heartfelt demonstration

of a powerful prayer of faith

and as we spoke about
being in connection with God

and talking with
Him and seeking Him

and knowing His will and so on,

Elijah could have
only gone to God like that.

He could have only
made such a public spectacle

because he had a
relationship with God

and he knew that his
God was going to show up.

Yeah, and he knew that
his God was the one true God.

day he proved the point,

we're looking at power...

was thinking about this...

how could that
impact our prayer lives?

the Lord gave me the revelation

we have wires and poles

these wires and these poles

and then they use transmissions
or distribution systems

to actually get the electricity

running through there,

so, these wires are connected
by switches and transformers

from a power plant...

to the connections in our homes

that make sense for us?

they call the Power Grid.
