Dona Klein tonight is going to play a medley of two songs: 00:00:15.41\00:00:18.98 On the Jericho Road and A Boy Called David. 00:00:19.18\00:00:23.69 And you'll be blessed as she plays tonight. 00:00:23.89\00:00:27.36 So enjoy the music of Dona Klein. 00:00:27.56\00:00:30.13 Heavenly Father, 00:03:58.77\00:04:00.34 tonight we thank you 00:04:02.27\00:04:04.37 for the great sacrifice that You made for us 00:04:05.27\00:04:08.38 on the old rugged cross. 00:04:09.48\00:04:11.48 We ask, Lord, that this evening as we 00:04:12.61\00:04:16.82 look at the provisions that You've made for us 00:04:17.79\00:04:20.32 to be healthy, to be happy, 00:04:21.16\00:04:24.59 we pray that You will give us understanding. 00:04:25.49\00:04:28.66 Give us the wisdom that we need 00:04:29.83\00:04:31.73 that we might seek Your guidance and Your direction 00:04:32.23\00:04:37.97 and give us the faith to follow. For this we pray 00:04:38.17\00:04:43.14 in Christ's name, Amen. 00:04:43.35\00:04:45.78 Gordon and Dona Klein and myself 00:04:53.92\00:04:56.36 had gone over to a town. 00:04:56.66\00:05:01.76 We were looking for some material... 00:05:02.16\00:05:04.70 material to put in some curtains in a motorhome. 00:05:04.90\00:05:09.87 And we had gone to this particular store 00:05:10.07\00:05:12.77 and was looking at the material. 00:05:12.97\00:05:15.91 And the young lady that was waiting on us 00:05:16.11\00:05:19.88 was quite obese. 00:05:20.08\00:05:22.62 I mean... quite large. 00:05:22.82\00:05:24.65 And in the course of the conversation were talking 00:05:24.85\00:05:28.66 about it and she was telling us what 00:05:28.86\00:05:32.69 a problem it was to her being so heavy and all. 00:05:32.89\00:05:37.23 And we found it to be interesting with the comment 00:05:37.43\00:05:41.44 that she made. And I think it kind of illustrates 00:05:41.64\00:05:44.84 some of the thinking that we have today 00:05:45.04\00:05:47.54 because she said that when she was in school 00:05:47.94\00:05:50.75 she had a terrible time when it came time for a prom 00:05:51.31\00:05:56.18 or something like this that she couldn't find a dress 00:05:56.38\00:05:58.85 to fit her. Just couldn't find one. 00:05:59.42\00:06:01.59 And so she said: "I solved my problem. " 00:06:01.79\00:06:04.69 And we said: "Well, how did you solve your problem? " 00:06:05.33\00:06:07.60 She said: "Oh, I learned to sew! " 00:06:07.80\00:06:09.76 And I think that's pretty much the concept today. 00:06:10.17\00:06:14.27 Rather than to take a look at what I'm doing 00:06:14.47\00:06:18.31 and what's causing me to put on the weight 00:06:18.51\00:06:22.34 say: "Well, I'll just learn to sew. " 00:06:22.54\00:06:24.38 No... God's Word makes some things very very clear. 00:06:25.35\00:06:30.72 I'm going to share with you 00:06:31.12\00:06:32.52 some of the circumstances and some of the things that we face 00:06:32.72\00:06:35.89 today as people in this country 00:06:36.09\00:06:38.59 and why I refer to this subject as The Fattening of America. 00:06:38.79\00:06:42.06 To begin with: 00:06:42.26\00:06:43.60 OK? Fifty-five percent 00:06:53.34\00:06:56.75 of the adult American population 00:06:57.65\00:07:00.52 is overweight today. 00:07:00.72\00:07:03.55 What does that mean? 00:07:03.75\00:07:05.22 Being overweight... does that carry any consequences? 00:07:05.42\00:07:09.56 Or should I just simply say: 00:07:09.76\00:07:11.29 "Well, that's genetically the way I am and I can't help it. " 00:07:11.49\00:07:16.03 What consequences does it carry? 00:07:16.43\00:07:19.50 Well, obesity is on the rise. 00:07:20.27\00:07:23.67 In the last ten years... in the last ten years 00:07:24.07\00:07:28.21 obesity has risen 32% 00:07:28.61\00:07:32.78 in the last ten years. 00:07:33.78\00:07:35.12 So that in itself should tell you and I 00:07:35.15\00:07:37.95 that we're doing something... we're doing something 00:07:38.15\00:07:43.12 that's causing this. 00:07:43.32\00:07:45.36 I mean, there has to be a reason for this. 00:07:45.76\00:07:49.03 And so what is bringing that about? 00:07:49.36\00:07:51.57 Well, look at this: 00:07:51.97\00:07:53.34 Put it down: premature death. 00:08:05.61\00:08:08.28 How does that affect? I was invited 00:08:08.48\00:08:10.95 to speak to a convocation of retirees 00:08:11.95\00:08:15.56 and I went there. 00:08:16.06\00:08:17.79 Walked into this room to speak to these people 00:08:18.29\00:08:20.56 but here were about 300 of them. 00:08:20.76\00:08:23.63 And I looked out across the audience 00:08:23.83\00:08:26.74 and in the entire audience of 300 people 00:08:28.87\00:08:32.34 I saw 22 men. 00:08:32.74\00:08:36.64 All the rest were women. 00:08:38.65\00:08:40.92 And there wasn't one heavy man among those 22. 00:08:42.28\00:08:47.69 I don't know if you're getting what I'm trying to tell you. 00:08:48.42\00:08:50.43 All the rest of them had died. 00:08:51.46\00:08:53.93 I'm just trying to be very honest with you tonight 00:08:55.76\00:08:59.40 and face where we are. 00:08:59.60\00:09:01.40 So if you and I are carrying excess body weight 00:09:11.28\00:09:15.58 then dear friend, don't think that it isn't 00:09:15.78\00:09:17.59 going to affect you. 00:09:17.79\00:09:19.12 All that because of excess weight. 00:09:37.64\00:09:41.11 "In the United States... " This is by Hamer and Copeland. 00:09:45.11\00:09:48.18 Kenneth Copeland that has done a tremendous amount of study. 00:09:48.38\00:09:51.25 This is what he says: 00:09:51.45\00:09:52.79 Now folks, if you don't under- stand... What I'm trying to get 00:10:03.97\00:10:06.10 across here is American people - 00:10:06.30\00:10:09.37 people in this country - 00:10:10.07\00:10:11.84 we have the greatest amount of obesity of any country 00:10:12.54\00:10:17.98 and we spend more money on exercise equipment 00:10:18.18\00:10:22.72 and on diet food than anybody in the world! 00:10:22.92\00:10:26.05 You talk about something that's not right! 00:10:27.42\00:10:30.73 I mean, we buy all kinds of exercise equipment. 00:10:30.93\00:10:34.33 We buy diet foods. 00:10:34.73\00:10:36.70 We do all this and yet we're the most obese people on earth! 00:10:36.90\00:10:41.34 Why? 00:10:43.81\00:10:45.14 This is what he said... Copeland, Hamer and Copeland: 00:10:46.04\00:10:49.91 The only thing that's growing faster. 00:10:57.75\00:10:59.79 So where are we and what does this mean 00:11:00.29\00:11:04.09 to you and I tonight? 00:11:04.29\00:11:06.16 Watch. This is what's happening, folks: 00:11:06.36\00:11:09.26 OK... watch, watch: 00:11:30.69\00:11:34.32 Begin to understand what's happening in this country. 00:11:34.72\00:11:37.36 This kills most of our people in this country, OK? 00:11:37.56\00:11:40.50 Watch: 00:11:40.70\00:11:42.03 58% of all the people that died 00:11:51.57\00:11:54.88 in 1998 died from non-communicable diseases. 00:11:55.08\00:11:58.91 OK? I'm saying worldwide! 00:11:59.95\00:12:02.58 Now... look: 00:12:04.35\00:12:06.22 81% of the people that die in rich countries 00:12:16.13\00:12:20.90 die from non-communicable diseases. 00:12:21.10\00:12:23.87 That is cancer, heart disease, 00:12:24.44\00:12:27.18 diabetes... and that is directly in relationship 00:12:27.38\00:12:31.48 to how you eat. 00:12:31.68\00:12:33.31 That's directly in relationship to how you eat. 00:12:35.15\00:12:38.05 So in poor and middle income countries 00:12:46.53\00:12:48.70 far less people die from non-communicable diseases. 00:12:48.90\00:12:53.00 Why? 00:12:54.10\00:12:55.64 Because they can't eat. 00:12:56.47\00:12:59.61 See? They're poor. 00:13:02.61\00:13:04.08 We can eat and so we kill ourselves 00:13:05.21\00:13:09.92 with our mouths. 00:13:10.12\00:13:12.29 We need to learn what God has to say about it. 00:13:13.22\00:13:16.89 How do we stand? What takes place because of this? 00:13:17.09\00:13:19.93 The average American male adult 00:13:29.94\00:13:33.94 has 53% more body fat 00:13:34.74\00:13:38.98 than is what is ideal for him. 00:13:39.18\00:13:41.55 And the women aren't much better. 00:13:42.75\00:13:45.02 That's the situation that we find ourselves in today. 00:13:54.56\00:13:59.77 So what's the problem? What's causing this? 00:13:59.97\00:14:02.30 Well... let me tell you what's causing this. 00:14:02.70\00:14:05.17 Now why... why for the last fifteen years 00:14:13.85\00:14:17.85 has the medical community 00:14:18.15\00:14:20.82 and the nutritional community 00:14:21.02\00:14:23.29 pushed a high carbohydrate low fat diet? 00:14:23.49\00:14:28.33 Why have they pushed that? 00:14:28.53\00:14:29.86 Well, they pushed that because they felt they needed 00:14:30.27\00:14:34.07 to lower... to try and do something to lower 00:14:34.27\00:14:38.14 the healthcare costs in this country. 00:14:38.34\00:14:42.08 They felt if they could lower the healthcare costs 00:14:43.11\00:14:46.51 then that would help the whole country tremendously. 00:14:46.72\00:14:50.12 And so they felt that was the way to go. 00:14:50.32\00:14:52.65 And so you now have what is called a food pyramid. 00:14:52.85\00:14:56.79 Have you looked at your food pyramid? 00:14:56.99\00:14:58.36 Well, your food pyramid says have high carbohydrate 00:14:58.76\00:15:02.03 low fat diet. And people have tried to follow that. 00:15:02.23\00:15:06.37 And because they've been following that, as a result 00:15:06.57\00:15:09.80 the weight has been going up. 00:15:10.01\00:15:12.77 That's what brought it about. 00:15:14.64\00:15:16.44 Now what is the case? 00:15:17.05\00:15:19.21 Well, you have what is called macronutrients. 00:15:19.61\00:15:23.75 There are three of them. 00:15:27.22\00:15:28.82 You ought to learn those three 00:15:29.02\00:15:30.69 and they have a great great effect upon you. 00:15:30.89\00:15:34.30 Those three are simply this: 00:15:35.56\00:15:38.00 Those are the three macronutrients. 00:15:49.48\00:15:53.65 Carbohydrates, protein, fat. 00:15:54.05\00:15:58.09 If you eat a high-carbohydrate diet, 00:15:59.02\00:16:03.09 low-fat diet, 00:16:04.16\00:16:07.03 what is wrong with that? 00:16:07.23\00:16:09.33 Huh? 00:16:11.77\00:16:13.10 Well, you just bypassed protein. 00:16:13.84\00:16:16.64 Now folks, let me just tell you a simple little fact here: 00:16:17.57\00:16:21.51 you can say all you want to tonight 00:16:22.01\00:16:24.61 you will never convince me differently, OK? 00:16:24.81\00:16:29.15 What I'm trying to tell you is God knew what He was doing 00:16:29.72\00:16:33.69 when He made you. 00:16:33.89\00:16:35.26 OK? And when God made you 00:16:36.06\00:16:38.76 He gave you certain things to eat, 00:16:38.96\00:16:41.50 but He gave them to you to be eaten balanced. 00:16:41.90\00:16:45.80 They have to be balanced. 00:16:48.07\00:16:50.24 And if I have anything to stress to you tonight 00:16:50.44\00:16:53.11 it is you have to take these macronutrients 00:16:53.31\00:16:56.81 and balance them. And if you don't balance them, 00:16:57.01\00:17:00.08 you're in trouble. 00:17:00.28\00:17:01.72 Carbohydrates... OK, let's take a look. 00:17:01.92\00:17:05.72 Carbohydrates: given to us to eat. 00:17:05.92\00:17:08.39 What are carbohydrates? 00:17:08.59\00:17:10.03 Do you know what carbohydrates are? 00:17:11.83\00:17:13.76 Well... bread, pasta, 00:17:15.23\00:17:20.44 OK? 00:17:21.24\00:17:22.57 Cake, cookies. 00:17:23.97\00:17:27.08 You ought to know... Can you name some other carbohydrates? 00:17:28.08\00:17:31.31 Let me name some most people don't think about. 00:17:32.45\00:17:34.85 Fruit, 00:17:35.78\00:17:38.19 vegetables, 00:17:38.59\00:17:40.12 those are all carbohydrates. OK? 00:17:42.16\00:17:46.09 So you have to balance what you're going to eat. 00:17:47.10\00:17:50.37 Your muscles - muscles in your body - 00:17:50.87\00:17:53.70 will store 300-400 grams of carbohydrates. 00:17:53.90\00:17:57.37 That's the MOST it can store. 00:17:58.91\00:18:01.04 OK? That's ALL you can store. 00:18:01.24\00:18:04.41 I want to ask you a question: 00:18:06.11\00:18:07.68 what happens if you sit down 00:18:07.98\00:18:09.92 to a great big meal of pasta, 00:18:10.32\00:18:14.19 and in that meal of pasta you eat about 700-800 grams 00:18:15.39\00:18:21.36 of carbohydrates? 00:18:21.56\00:18:23.06 All that your muscles can store is 300 to 400 grams. 00:18:23.87\00:18:27.50 OK? Your brain... your brain: that's all it uses 00:18:28.50\00:18:34.38 is glucose which is a carbohydrate. That's all. 00:18:34.58\00:18:37.35 And all that your brain can use is 80 to 90 grams 00:18:37.75\00:18:41.95 of carbohydrates. That's all your brain can use. 00:18:42.15\00:18:44.69 So here I've eaten 700-800 grams of carbohydrates 00:18:45.49\00:18:49.62 in pasta and my muscles take 300-400 grams, 00:18:49.82\00:18:53.96 my brain 80 to 90, 00:18:54.16\00:18:56.40 what's going to happen to the rest of it? 00:18:56.60\00:18:58.33 It all goes to your body. 00:18:59.83\00:19:02.30 That's where it goes. 00:19:08.84\00:19:10.31 You see, you have a hormone in your body 00:19:11.18\00:19:15.18 that when you eat too many carbohydrates 00:19:15.38\00:19:18.82 it raises the insulin in your body. 00:19:19.02\00:19:23.06 Insulin in your body, folks, lowers blood sugar. 00:19:23.83\00:19:27.80 OK? Carbohydrates raise blood sugar. 00:19:28.20\00:19:32.03 So God made you. 00:19:32.23\00:19:33.74 Said: "Oh these people have lost their cookies. 00:19:33.94\00:19:36.10 They're eating too many carbohydrates and I've gotta 00:19:36.30\00:19:39.41 do something! " The Lord gave your body insulin 00:19:39.61\00:19:41.84 so it lowers it. 00:19:42.04\00:19:43.38 But insulin does a double whammy on you. 00:19:43.55\00:19:46.75 Insulin says: "Take all those carbohydrates 00:19:46.95\00:19:50.59 and store them as fat. " 00:19:50.79\00:19:53.02 And then the insulin says: "Don't let them out. " 00:19:54.06\00:19:59.16 That's the reason you have a hard time losing weight, 00:20:01.23\00:20:03.80 see, 'cause the insulin says: "Don't let them out. " 00:20:04.70\00:20:06.90 That's carbohydrates, OK? 00:20:07.74\00:20:10.81 All carbohydrates, as I mentioned to you, are fruits, 00:20:11.67\00:20:16.28 vegetables, grains, pasta and so forth. 00:20:16.48\00:20:19.41 All these carbohydrates have what is called a glycemic index. 00:20:19.81\00:20:25.05 Let me try to explain what a glycemic index is. 00:20:26.32\00:20:29.39 Glycemic index just means how fast those carbohydrates 00:20:29.69\00:20:35.63 enter the bloodstream. 00:20:35.83\00:20:37.17 Some enter the bloodstream much faster than others. 00:20:37.80\00:20:41.97 OK... that's what glycemic index means. 00:20:42.17\00:20:45.37 And there are basically three types of carbohydrates. 00:20:45.57\00:20:50.71 One is called glucose. 00:20:51.28\00:20:53.25 Now folks, all your brain uses is glucose. 00:20:53.65\00:20:58.79 That's it. 00:20:58.99\00:21:00.32 It's a "glucose hog, " OK? 00:21:00.49\00:21:03.22 So that's all your brain will use is glucose. 00:21:03.43\00:21:06.26 So if you eat some carbo- hydrates that are glucose 00:21:06.46\00:21:11.03 then that goes directly into your bloodstream 00:21:11.23\00:21:14.14 and to your brain. It enters it very very fast. 00:21:14.34\00:21:17.87 That is called a high glycemic index. 00:21:18.07\00:21:21.61 You with me? 00:21:22.41\00:21:23.75 OK. There are others that don't have as high 00:21:23.95\00:21:29.45 as glucose does, 00:21:29.65\00:21:32.15 and one is called fructose. 00:21:32.35\00:21:34.82 Why does it not have as high a glycemic index as glucose 00:21:35.02\00:21:40.36 is because your brain only uses glucose. 00:21:40.56\00:21:44.37 So when you eat fruit 00:21:44.77\00:21:46.80 it has to go to the liver and be converted into glucose 00:21:47.00\00:21:51.51 before it can go to your brain. 00:21:51.71\00:21:53.04 So it goes into the bloodstream much slower. 00:21:53.17\00:21:56.51 OK. The other type of carbohydrate 00:21:56.71\00:22:00.75 is that that is called galactose. 00:22:00.95\00:22:03.35 That comes from milk products. 00:22:03.55\00:22:05.72 And again... same thing. 00:22:05.92\00:22:08.79 Got to go to the liver, be converted, before it can go on 00:22:08.99\00:22:12.69 to the brain. So it has a lower glycemic index. 00:22:12.89\00:22:17.67 I'll give you an illustration. 00:22:18.07\00:22:19.40 I have a friend who 00:22:19.50\00:22:22.50 worked out where I lived. And so I invited him 00:22:25.07\00:22:28.98 any time he was out there to come and stay with me. 00:22:29.18\00:22:31.08 And he did. 00:22:31.28\00:22:32.61 My friend's quite heavy. 00:22:33.08\00:22:34.92 And I came home, and he came in a little bit later 00:22:35.32\00:22:41.02 and as he came in he was carrying three bags 00:22:41.22\00:22:45.46 of rice cakes. You know what I'm talking about? 00:22:45.66\00:22:48.60 Rice cake things? 00:22:48.80\00:22:50.13 And I said to him, I said: 00:22:50.17\00:22:51.83 "What are you doing with those? " 00:22:52.23\00:22:53.57 He said: "Oh, I'm having such a hard time 00:22:53.64\00:22:56.10 with this weight problem. " He said: 00:22:56.30\00:22:58.14 "I'm just going to eat rice cakes tonight. " 00:22:58.34\00:23:00.81 He said: "That way it's high carbohydrate, low fat. " 00:23:01.01\00:23:04.38 And I said: "You know, you'd be much better off 00:23:05.08\00:23:09.08 to take those back to the store 00:23:10.29\00:23:12.32 and buy you a half a gallon of ice cream. " 00:23:12.52\00:23:14.89 And he looked at me like I was crazy. See? 00:23:18.66\00:23:22.46 You see, the highest glycemic index there is rice cakes. 00:23:22.66\00:23:27.50 See? He would've been better off 00:23:30.27\00:23:32.31 to have bought a half a gallon of ice cream. 00:23:32.51\00:23:33.84 We do things, folks, that are foolish! 00:23:34.08\00:23:37.31 Absolutely foolish! And then we wonder why we struggle 00:23:37.51\00:23:42.02 with the weight problem that we have. 00:23:42.22\00:23:44.12 And it's simply because we are not doing what God 00:23:44.32\00:23:47.96 laid out for us to do. 00:23:48.26\00:23:50.49 OK? What's God's original diet? 00:23:51.49\00:23:55.30 Now follow carefully what God gave man to eat. 00:23:55.80\00:23:59.63 So when God created man He gave him fruit, grains, nuts. 00:24:19.09\00:24:24.66 That's what God gave man to eat. 00:24:25.06\00:24:27.76 Now folks, say whatever you want to say 00:24:29.06\00:24:32.80 but you're not going to improve on that diet. 00:24:33.00\00:24:36.14 You're not going to improve on it. 00:24:37.61\00:24:39.31 That's what God gave for man to eat. 00:24:39.71\00:24:42.74 Now, true enough... you've got to use your head 00:24:42.94\00:24:45.65 as to how you do it. God didn't give you just 00:24:46.51\00:24:48.78 carbohydrates to eat. 00:24:48.98\00:24:50.55 Or He didn't give you just grains to eat. 00:24:50.85\00:24:53.25 He gave all three of those. 00:24:53.76\00:24:55.82 And God just simply says they're to be eaten. 00:24:56.02\00:24:58.89 You see, fruit is carbohydrate. 00:24:59.09\00:25:02.00 But fruit... It's carbohydrates but it's also 00:25:02.96\00:25:06.47 OK. Two things happen when you eat fruit. 00:25:08.87\00:25:11.84 One: it cannot go directly into your bloodstream. 00:25:12.24\00:25:15.71 It has to go to the liver and be converted to glucose 00:25:15.91\00:25:18.15 before it does. And secondly: fiber also 00:25:18.35\00:25:21.85 slows down it's entrance into the bloodstream 00:25:22.05\00:25:25.29 so the glycemic index on fruit is much lower. 00:25:25.49\00:25:29.39 OK? God understood that; He made it that way! 00:25:30.53\00:25:34.03 So that's one reason fresh fruit's good for you. 00:25:34.76\00:25:37.87 Secondly: God gave grains. 00:25:38.07\00:25:41.80 Complex... listen to me: complex carbohydrates. 00:25:42.70\00:25:47.21 What are complex carbohydrates? 00:25:48.24\00:25:50.85 Complex carbohydrates are such things as: 00:25:51.88\00:25:54.75 All those are complex carbohydrates 00:26:07.10\00:26:11.93 but they also contain protein. If you don't believe me, 00:26:12.13\00:26:17.51 then when you go to the store - 00:26:17.71\00:26:19.57 OK - when you go to the store 00:26:19.77\00:26:21.41 get a can of beans. Turn it over to the back 00:26:21.61\00:26:24.45 and on the back it will list how many carbohydrates are in it, 00:26:24.65\00:26:27.65 how much protein's in it. 00:26:27.85\00:26:29.18 And you'll see that it has carbohydrates. 00:26:29.22\00:26:32.09 It has a good amount of protein in it. OK? 00:26:32.29\00:26:36.36 So they contain both. 00:26:36.56\00:26:38.03 All right? He also gave you nuts to eat. 00:26:38.63\00:26:43.26 Nuts contain two things: 00:26:44.47\00:26:47.27 So God just simply gave that. 00:26:52.81\00:26:55.21 All three of those macronutrients are there. 00:26:55.41\00:26:59.85 So if you eat too many carbohydrates 00:27:00.25\00:27:02.05 what's going to happen? 00:27:02.78\00:27:04.12 Your blood sugar's going to go up 00:27:05.79\00:27:07.69 and your body's going to have to secrete insulin 00:27:09.32\00:27:12.16 to lower it. OK? 00:27:12.46\00:27:14.56 But if you eat protein - 00:27:16.16\00:27:18.67 which you need to eat - 00:27:18.87\00:27:20.24 well then that affects a hormone called glutathione 00:27:20.64\00:27:26.64 and the glutathione raises blood sugar. 00:27:26.94\00:27:29.24 So that balances the insulin and the blood sugar. 00:27:29.44\00:27:33.08 OK? Fat... unbeknownst to many people... 00:27:33.28\00:27:37.85 fat is neutral. 00:27:38.05\00:27:39.39 It doesn't raise your blood sugar, 00:27:39.65\00:27:41.22 it doesn't lower your blood sugar. 00:27:41.42\00:27:42.76 All it does is it's quite high in calories 00:27:42.82\00:27:45.69 but you have to have some fat, folks. 00:27:45.89\00:27:48.73 And I can't go into all the details of that. 00:27:48.93\00:27:51.43 Because you have a hormone in your body 00:27:51.63\00:27:55.30 that's extremely important. You have a whole family 00:27:55.50\00:27:58.67 of hormones in your body 00:27:59.07\00:28:02.08 that are tremendously important. 00:28:02.28\00:28:04.38 And much of the medical research 00:28:04.58\00:28:06.21 today that's being done is in this area. 00:28:06.41\00:28:08.82 And this family of hormones is called eicosanoids. 00:28:09.02\00:28:12.79 And eicosanoids can only operate in a fatty acid base. 00:28:13.72\00:28:19.66 And if you don't eat fats they won't work. 00:28:20.06\00:28:22.53 And you really... I'm sorry - some people are going to think 00:28:22.73\00:28:26.23 I'm crazy - but you can't really lose weight unless you eat fat. 00:28:26.43\00:28:30.91 So you've gotta have some fat. 00:28:32.67\00:28:34.64 Don't misunderstand me. I'm not talking about a lot. 00:28:34.84\00:28:37.78 But you've gotta have it balanced if it's gonna work. 00:28:37.98\00:28:41.28 OK. Now folks, 00:28:41.48\00:28:44.15 if you take what I've just given you 00:28:44.79\00:28:47.02 and you go home and study it, 00:28:47.82\00:28:49.39 it can change your life! 00:28:49.79\00:28:51.79 Now I'm sure that there's some of you sitting out there 00:28:52.26\00:28:54.46 that are saying: "Well, uh, what about meat as a protein? " 00:28:54.66\00:29:00.67 What about meat as a protein? 00:29:01.97\00:29:04.97 Well... let's see. 00:29:05.17\00:29:06.57 It is a source of protein, OK? 00:29:06.78\00:29:10.01 But the Scripture - the Word of God - 00:29:10.41\00:29:13.45 has something to say about meat. 00:29:13.65\00:29:16.32 And if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, 00:29:17.52\00:29:21.16 then you need to understand what the Scripture says about meat. 00:29:21.36\00:29:25.79 OK? Let's look and see what it tells you. 00:29:25.99\00:29:28.50 That means it goes on forever. 00:29:36.94\00:29:39.37 Number one: God says 00:29:44.08\00:29:47.05 "Don't eat fat or blood of an animal. " 00:29:47.25\00:29:52.22 And you and I don't really need a big explanation 00:29:53.42\00:29:56.12 about that. We understand that if you eat animal fat 00:29:56.32\00:29:59.69 it raises your what? 00:29:59.89\00:30:02.26 Your cholesterol. 00:30:02.46\00:30:03.80 We understand that blood 00:30:04.23\00:30:06.00 chances of disease are much greater. 00:30:06.40\00:30:08.94 So God just simply said: "If you're going to eat an animal, 00:30:09.14\00:30:11.61 you don't eat the fat; you don't eat the blood. " 00:30:11.81\00:30:14.71 And I have some dear people say to me: 00:30:15.98\00:30:17.81 "Oh Brother Cox, that was written for the Jews. " 00:30:18.01\00:30:20.72 Well let me tell you something: 00:30:21.62\00:30:23.18 the only difference I know between my stomach 00:30:23.39\00:30:27.39 and a Jew's stomach is mine might be a little bigger. 00:30:27.59\00:30:30.16 That's the only question I know. OK? 00:30:30.56\00:30:33.13 God said: "Don't eat it. " 00:30:34.30\00:30:35.80 And that is simply what He meant when He said: "Don't eat it. " 00:30:36.00\00:30:38.63 All right... let's go on, though. 00:30:39.37\00:30:40.74 God says there's some animals that are clean. 00:30:40.94\00:30:46.07 That means as far as Scripture is concerned 00:30:46.81\00:30:50.55 they're OK to eat. OK? 00:30:50.75\00:30:54.88 And God says there's some animals 00:30:55.28\00:30:57.92 that are not to be eaten. And the Scripture calls them 00:30:58.12\00:31:01.42 unclean. 00:31:01.62\00:31:03.22 They're not a very inviting list. OK? 00:31:03.43\00:31:06.96 They're unclean. Scripture says don't eat them. 00:31:07.16\00:31:09.80 And I can tell you right now, dear friend, 00:31:11.00\00:31:13.10 your health will be much better off 00:31:13.30\00:31:16.87 if you listen to the Lord. OK? 00:31:17.07\00:31:19.84 Let's see what the Lord has to say about it. 00:31:20.04\00:31:21.88 I have people like I said that say: "Well that 00:31:23.81\00:31:26.01 clean and unclean business, that was given to the Jews. " 00:31:26.21\00:31:28.42 Not it wasn't. It was given before the Jew existed. 00:31:28.82\00:31:32.95 Have you ever read about Noah? 00:31:33.76\00:31:35.62 Huh? 00:31:36.22\00:31:37.56 Listen to what it says to Noah: 00:31:37.59\00:31:39.69 You were told, weren't you, 00:31:50.57\00:31:52.77 the animals went into the ark two by two. 00:31:52.97\00:31:55.08 No they didn't. 00:31:55.28\00:31:57.15 THE UNCLEAN went in the ark by twos. 00:31:57.35\00:32:00.52 The clean went into the ark by sevens. 00:32:00.72\00:32:02.98 So God just made a clear distinction way back then 00:32:12.06\00:32:15.53 in the beginning that the clean were there 00:32:15.73\00:32:18.73 and the unclean there. And God has never changed that, 00:32:18.93\00:32:22.27 friends, at all. 00:32:22.47\00:32:23.97 So when you go to the book of Leviticus 00:32:24.17\00:32:25.87 you begin to see what the Scripture says. 00:32:26.07\00:32:28.01 OK, Leviticus. This is what it says about the animals. 00:32:35.62\00:32:39.35 Very simple. 00:32:51.83\00:32:53.20 If an animal is clean, it has to divide the hoof 00:32:53.40\00:32:57.47 and it has to chew the cud. 00:32:58.47\00:33:00.71 Those are the two things it has to do. 00:33:00.91\00:33:02.98 Not one or the other but both of them. 00:33:03.38\00:33:05.81 OK. God named some of them for you. 00:33:06.01\00:33:08.68 I don't see very many people eating camels. 00:33:22.36\00:33:24.83 Have you ever looked at a camel? 00:33:27.94\00:33:29.47 Huh? They are strange animals... camels are. 00:33:30.07\00:33:35.01 You know, really. 00:33:35.61\00:33:37.25 You know what they remind me of? 00:33:37.45\00:33:38.78 They remind me of a horse 00:33:39.58\00:33:41.15 that's been put together by a committee. 00:33:41.35\00:33:43.08 That's what they remind me of. 00:33:43.28\00:33:44.62 But God said: "Don't eat them; leave them alone. " 00:33:45.55\00:33:49.32 OK? Secondly: 00:33:49.52\00:33:51.59 That's the rock badger if you don't know what that is. 00:33:53.56\00:33:56.06 So God says: "Don't eat the rock badger. " 00:34:00.90\00:34:03.07 That's the rabbit, OK? 00:34:05.17\00:34:07.24 That's the pig. This is the one we eat - 00:34:15.08\00:34:19.49 Mr. Piggy - from the tail to the snout, you know. 00:34:19.69\00:34:22.52 OK? 00:34:22.72\00:34:24.06 God says: "Do not eat it... unclean! " 00:34:34.60\00:34:40.04 When I became a Christian 00:34:43.85\00:34:45.81 I had a real problem here. 00:34:46.82\00:34:48.82 My problem was as I told you another night 00:34:50.42\00:34:54.69 I belonged to something called the FFA. 00:34:55.09\00:34:58.43 Future Farmers of America. 00:34:58.83\00:35:00.83 And one thing I had done is I had bought a pig. 00:35:02.40\00:35:06.70 I don't know if you know what a registered duroc jersey 00:35:07.57\00:35:10.54 pig is, but if you ever go to the county fair 00:35:10.94\00:35:13.64 you can go look at them. They're red colored. 00:35:13.84\00:35:15.34 That's what they are. I had bought one to raise 00:35:15.74\00:35:18.71 and show at the county fair... 00:35:18.91\00:35:20.25 and had won at the county fair with it. 00:35:20.48\00:35:23.45 My father also had one, and so we both had sows 00:35:24.15\00:35:27.89 that we raised pigs from. 00:35:28.09\00:35:29.42 I got to reading God's Word. 00:35:30.46\00:35:32.36 You know, I was just a young person 00:35:32.76\00:35:34.73 and I was reading Scripture. 00:35:35.13\00:35:36.50 And here I began to read what it had to say about the pig 00:35:36.70\00:35:39.03 in here. And from reading that 00:35:39.23\00:35:42.27 I decided it wasn't right for me to eat it. 00:35:42.47\00:35:45.91 And then I got under conviction 'cause I didn't know what 00:35:46.84\00:35:49.41 to do with the pig. See? 00:35:49.61\00:35:51.88 And my father was not a Christian. 00:35:52.08\00:35:54.68 My father was violently opposed to what I did. 00:35:54.88\00:36:00.26 And I knew that if I killed that pig he'd kill me. 00:36:00.96\00:36:04.26 So I didn't know what to do with it. 00:36:07.00\00:36:08.46 A fellow offered to trade me a calf for it. 00:36:08.66\00:36:10.67 I wouldn't even do that. 00:36:10.87\00:36:12.20 I just didn't know what to do with it. 00:36:12.93\00:36:14.37 That plagued me, folks. Bothered me. 00:36:14.57\00:36:17.77 Finally one night I went in the bedroom 00:36:18.67\00:36:21.51 and I shut the door. 00:36:21.91\00:36:24.21 And I got down on my knees and I said: "Lord, 00:36:24.61\00:36:26.72 I don't know what to do with this pig. " 00:36:26.92\00:36:28.38 I know that my dad would just... 00:36:30.55\00:36:34.26 no telling what he would do if I killed that pig. 00:36:34.46\00:36:36.46 And I said: "I don't know what to do with it. 00:36:37.49\00:36:39.49 I don't feel right about keeping it. 00:36:39.69\00:36:41.93 I don't know how to get rid of it. 00:36:43.10\00:36:44.80 So Lord, I've made up my mind 00:36:45.20\00:36:47.94 I'm giving it to You. It's not my pig any more. " 00:36:48.14\00:36:51.21 And that's what I did! 00:36:54.44\00:36:55.78 Just gave it to Him and said: 00:36:56.01\00:36:57.35 "It's Your pig... not mine. " 00:36:57.45\00:36:58.78 The next morning I went out on the back porch, 00:36:59.81\00:37:03.62 picked up the slop bucket 00:37:03.82\00:37:05.15 to go out to feed the pigs. 00:37:05.35\00:37:07.46 Walked out there and mine was laying in the pen dead 00:37:07.66\00:37:10.33 and Dad's was running around. 00:37:11.99\00:37:13.86 Took care of it. 00:37:14.06\00:37:15.40 See? What I'm trying to get across to you 00:37:15.43\00:37:18.20 is God is very clear, folks. 00:37:18.60\00:37:21.10 He just tells you and I we're not to eat it. 00:37:21.30\00:37:23.91 Let's go on. 00:37:24.11\00:37:25.44 OK? 00:37:34.32\00:37:35.65 What about sea life? 00:37:35.68\00:37:37.22 What does the Scripture say there? 00:37:37.82\00:37:39.79 God gave you two rules for an animal. 00:37:39.99\00:37:42.26 They have to divide the hoof; they have to chew a cud. 00:37:42.82\00:37:45.19 When it comes to sea life He gives you two rules. 00:37:45.39\00:37:47.50 Let's see what they are. 00:37:47.70\00:37:49.03 So the rule is they've got to have fins and scales. 00:38:02.38\00:38:07.22 Both. Not one or the other... 00:38:07.62\00:38:09.05 they've gotta have both. 00:38:09.25\00:38:10.59 So God says if they don't have fins and scales 00:38:23.33\00:38:25.97 can't eat them. 00:38:26.17\00:38:27.50 And if you look at most of them, folks, 00:38:28.20\00:38:30.57 they're scavengers. 00:38:30.77\00:38:32.11 OK? I have people say to me: 00:38:32.97\00:38:35.08 "Well, why did God create the pig? " 00:38:35.28\00:38:37.45 Well very easy! 00:38:38.51\00:38:40.32 For a garbage disposal. 00:38:40.52\00:38:42.12 That's why He created the pig. 00:38:43.28\00:38:44.65 That's also why He created such things 00:38:45.52\00:38:48.52 as crabs and oysters and catfish 00:38:48.72\00:38:52.53 and these things that don't have fins and scales 00:38:52.73\00:38:55.30 'cause they're scavengers. They are what cleans up 00:38:55.50\00:38:58.93 the bottom of the river and the bottom of the pond. 00:38:59.13\00:39:01.37 And God says: "Don't eat them. " 00:39:01.57\00:39:03.61 If they have fins and scales they're clean... 00:39:04.01\00:39:07.44 clean to be eaten. 00:39:07.64\00:39:09.21 OK. When we take a look and it says: 00:39:09.41\00:39:13.52 Now when it comes to the birds 00:39:18.29\00:39:19.69 God doesn't give a rule... He just names them: 00:39:19.89\00:39:23.32 what you are not to eat. 00:39:23.53\00:39:25.66 Among the birds that shall not be eaten: 00:39:25.86\00:39:27.66 The kite, cormorant, cuckoo, pelican. 00:39:33.13\00:39:35.77 Goes on and names them. 00:39:35.97\00:39:37.51 Says these are unclean. Most of them, folks, 00:39:37.67\00:39:40.84 are birds of prey. 00:39:41.04\00:39:43.11 That's what most of them are... 00:39:43.75\00:39:45.08 birds of prey. And God says: "Don't eat them. " 00:39:45.21\00:39:48.52 OK. So that's simply when it comes to meat - 00:39:49.38\00:39:52.05 if you're going to talk about meat as a protein - 00:39:52.25\00:39:55.19 those are the things that God counsels us concerning meat. 00:39:55.39\00:40:01.00 So if you're going to use meat as a protein, 00:40:01.93\00:40:04.90 then you need to follow the scriptural injunction about it. 00:40:05.10\00:40:08.27 And I'll just say when God wrote that 00:40:08.47\00:40:11.37 He told you to begin with that His diet for you 00:40:12.47\00:40:17.81 was fruit, grains, and nuts 00:40:18.01\00:40:20.65 and later He added vegetables. 00:40:21.05\00:40:23.18 In this day and age I think you take great risk 00:40:23.99\00:40:28.32 with meat being as diseased as it is. 00:40:29.19\00:40:32.49 I think you run great risk. 00:40:33.33\00:40:35.13 OK? So you need to be clear on what the Scripture says. 00:40:35.33\00:40:39.10 All right. And by the way, 00:40:39.63\00:40:42.30 the ones that are unclean like the camel 00:40:43.34\00:40:46.68 and the pig and the 00:40:46.98\00:40:48.54 seagull and the mouse, you know, 00:40:52.28\00:40:55.55 I don't find them served in the best restaurants. 00:40:55.75\00:40:58.79 Do you? 00:40:59.49\00:41:00.82 I don't find people going in ordering roasted camel 00:41:00.86\00:41:03.39 or seagull à la king or breaded mouse, you know. 00:41:04.36\00:41:10.17 Most of those things are things that God says: 00:41:10.37\00:41:13.40 "Leave them alone; don't eat them. " 00:41:13.60\00:41:15.67 What does the New Testament say about it? 00:41:16.30\00:41:18.31 People say: "Well that's Old Testament. 00:41:18.71\00:41:20.68 We don't go by the Old Testament we go by the New Testament. " 00:41:20.88\00:41:23.38 Well, let's look at the New Testament. 00:41:23.78\00:41:25.51 See what it says. 00:41:25.91\00:41:27.25 So he makes it very clear when he says: "What agreement 00:41:39.76\00:41:42.10 has the temple of God with idols? " 00:41:42.30\00:41:43.73 He's talking about what? Talking about you; 00:41:43.93\00:41:47.10 he's talking about your body. 00:41:47.30\00:41:48.64 OK. You are the temple of the living God. 00:41:48.74\00:41:50.81 God is very clear in the New Testament. 00:42:09.82\00:42:11.96 He said: "Leave it alone. Don't be touching, don't be 00:42:12.16\00:42:16.36 eating what He lists as unclean. 00:42:16.56\00:42:18.87 That's not to be eaten. " 00:42:19.83\00:42:21.84 You say: "Well... " 00:42:22.34\00:42:24.11 You say: "Well, didn't Peter... 00:42:28.48\00:42:31.71 Didn't Peter have some kind of vision 00:42:31.91\00:42:34.08 where he cleaned it all up? " 00:42:34.28\00:42:35.65 Huh? Have you ever read Acts 10 00:42:35.85\00:42:38.35 where Peter had this vision? 00:42:38.95\00:42:40.46 This sheet was let down out of heaven, and in this sheet 00:42:40.66\00:42:43.73 was all manner of unclean animals. 00:42:43.93\00:42:47.13 And a voice said: "Rise Peter, kill and eat. " 00:42:47.73\00:42:50.57 And Peter said: "Not so, Lord! 00:42:52.53\00:42:55.27 I've never eaten anything common or unclean. " 00:42:55.67\00:42:58.07 That was done three times. 00:42:58.97\00:43:00.84 And the voice said: "Peter, what I have cleansed 00:43:01.24\00:43:04.91 don't you call common. " 00:43:05.11\00:43:06.82 Peter can't figure this out, folks. 00:43:16.29\00:43:18.56 He can't understand because this is direct contrary 00:43:19.06\00:43:23.90 to the Word of God. 00:43:24.10\00:43:25.53 And so it says in Scripture while he's trying to get all 00:43:25.73\00:43:28.80 this put together there's a knock at the door 00:43:29.00\00:43:31.61 and there's some men there from Cornelius's house. 00:43:32.11\00:43:35.54 Cornelius is a Roman soldier. 00:43:36.04\00:43:38.45 He's a centurion. 00:43:38.65\00:43:40.25 He's had a dream. 00:43:41.28\00:43:43.08 And in the dream he's been told to send these men to Peter 00:43:43.28\00:43:47.39 and get Peter from Joppa. 00:43:47.59\00:43:49.56 Bring Peter back. 00:43:50.29\00:43:51.63 So he sent them there. They knock on the door. 00:43:51.69\00:43:54.46 Peter invites them in and they tell him that Cornelius 00:43:54.66\00:43:57.63 has had the dream. And so they spend the night with Peter 00:43:57.83\00:44:00.04 and the next day Peter goes with them back to Cornelius's house. 00:44:00.24\00:44:04.87 Cornelius is a Roman soldier, folks. He's a Gentile! 00:44:05.71\00:44:10.25 Do you understand that? 00:44:10.65\00:44:11.98 OK, listen... listen to the words of Peter. 00:44:12.61\00:44:15.98 He'll tell you what the dream is. 00:44:16.18\00:44:17.82 God wasn't trying to say "Peter it's OK to eat the pig. " 00:44:45.61\00:44:48.82 He was saying: "Peter, you need to take 00:44:49.88\00:44:52.35 the gospel to the Gentiles. " 00:44:52.55\00:44:54.32 That's what He was telling him. 00:44:54.52\00:44:56.19 He wasn't telling him unclean animals were now clean. 00:44:56.39\00:44:59.29 He was saying: "You need to take the gospel to the Gentiles. 00:44:59.49\00:45:02.76 Preach it to them. " That's what it was about. 00:45:02.96\00:45:05.53 You see, the New Testament says in I Corinthians 6:19 00:45:05.73\00:45:09.17 So when you accept Jesus Christ 00:45:21.78\00:45:23.89 this body of yours becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit. 00:45:24.39\00:45:28.92 That's what the Scripture says. 00:45:29.12\00:45:30.63 You are not your own. 00:45:30.83\00:45:33.06 Your body belongs to the Lord. 00:45:33.93\00:45:37.53 It's His... and He gives you some very good counsel 00:45:37.73\00:45:41.44 about taking care of it. 00:45:41.64\00:45:43.20 Said: "You've been bought with a price. " 00:45:55.75\00:45:57.72 Glorify God in your what? In your body. 00:45:57.92\00:46:02.59 That means that I'm to keep this body as healthy 00:46:02.79\00:46:06.59 as I possibly can keep it for the Lord. 00:46:06.80\00:46:09.43 That's what it means. 00:46:09.63\00:46:10.97 You see, your body... What makes your body holy? 00:46:29.68\00:46:32.99 Do you know that? What makes your body holy? 00:46:36.42\00:46:38.46 The Holy Spirit. 00:46:39.89\00:46:41.96 The Holy Spirit dwells within you! 00:46:42.16\00:46:43.73 And because He dwells in you 00:46:43.93\00:46:45.27 that's what makes your body holy. And God says: 00:46:45.37\00:46:47.80 "You need to take care of it. " 00:46:48.00\00:46:49.40 "You need to treat it right. " 00:46:49.60\00:46:50.97 "You need to make sure that it's cared for 00:46:51.37\00:46:53.27 as it should be. " 00:46:53.48\00:46:54.81 So I am not to put in things that harm it. 00:46:55.38\00:46:58.58 And in this country, we do a lot of things that harm it. 00:46:59.18\00:47:02.72 We put things in our body. 00:47:03.59\00:47:04.92 Christ would not go along with that. 00:47:05.05\00:47:06.79 Jesus hanging on the cross. 00:47:07.99\00:47:09.96 I told you the other night about the tremendous agony 00:47:10.36\00:47:13.60 that He went through.
