We are back and Mary from just outside 00:00:10.73\00:00:14.00 of Little Rock. I hope that you got 00:00:14.01\00:00:16.51 everything down that you had your pen 00:00:16.52\00:00:18.51 and your pencil ready and writing, 00:00:18.52\00:00:20.81 because we had a very exciting first 00:00:20.82\00:00:23.29 hour of dealing with Nancy's story. Nancy, 00:00:23.30\00:00:25.15 thank you so very much, well done. 00:00:25.16\00:00:26.91 Thank you. And CHIP has made a profound 00:00:26.92\00:00:30.60 impact on your life, yes, and you're 00:00:30.61\00:00:32.63 sharing that with others. We did say 00:00:32.64\00:00:34.63 at the close of the last hour that we would 00:00:35.15\00:00:37.32 run a little video, sort of highlighting 00:00:37.33\00:00:39.67 Nancy's story good doctor and I 00:00:39.68\00:00:41.64 think we'll take care, take that just now. 00:00:41.65\00:00:43.70 Where does she get all that energy? 00:00:55.45\00:00:57.31 Nancy, you're looking great. Hi, I'm Nancy. 00:01:02.45\00:01:07.32 I'd like to tell you my story. When I was 00:01:07.33\00:01:10.23 growing up I was thin and full of energy, 00:01:10.24\00:01:13.19 but after I got married I gained 30 pounds 00:01:13.20\00:01:16.04 in just 2 years and when I started having 00:01:16.05\00:01:18.80 children I gained 10 pounds with each 00:01:18.81\00:01:21.18 additional child and before I knew it, 00:01:21.19\00:01:23.86 I found myself 80 pounds overweight 00:01:23.87\00:01:26.21 and for years I felt sluggish and out of 00:01:26.22\00:01:28.94 energy and just didn't feel good, 00:01:28.95\00:01:31.27 and I knew I needed to get, 00:01:32.20\00:01:33.43 lose the weight and I tried some different 00:01:33.91\00:01:35.72 things, but nothing seemed to work 00:01:35.73\00:01:37.28 and stick with me. I found CHIP in my 00:01:37.29\00:01:39.81 community. CHIP is the Coronary Health 00:01:39.82\00:01:43.00 Improvement Project. I loved the lifestyle 00:01:43.01\00:01:45.65 that it gave me. I can eat of a large 00:01:45.66\00:01:48.73 variety of foods that I really enjoy, 00:01:48.74\00:01:51.14 fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains, 00:01:51.15\00:01:55.35 delicious foods of all kinds. 00:01:55.36\00:01:57.25 I exercise regularly. My weight stared 00:01:57.26\00:02:00.35 melting off and within a short time I have 00:02:00.36\00:02:02.92 found myself, I had lost 80 pounds. 00:02:02.93\00:02:05.22 My husband Ed, he was way overweight. 00:02:05.23\00:02:09.25 He had Type two diabetes, 00:02:09.71\00:02:11.31 high cholesterol and high blood pressure 00:02:11.91\00:02:13.90 and had been on medications for all 00:02:13.91\00:02:15.99 three of those for six years. My husband 00:02:16.00\00:02:18.26 is exercising a lot more now and his brother 00:02:18.27\00:02:20.61 can't hardly keep up with him anymore. 00:02:20.62\00:02:23.08 Hey, Ed, wait for me. That used to be me. 00:02:23.59\00:02:27.56 I used to be all out of energy, 00:02:28.31\00:02:29.89 but now I have lot of energy. 00:02:29.90\00:02:31.80 Hi, it's great to have you back again 00:02:32.84\00:02:34.47 for the summer. It's good to see you 00:02:34.48\00:02:36.15 too I mean you look great. How do you do it? 00:02:36.16\00:02:38.49 It's CHIP. Its really helped us to get our 00:02:38.50\00:02:41.37 health back. I've lost a lot of weight and I 00:02:41.38\00:02:43.84 have tons of energy and you know 00:02:43.85\00:02:45.71 I've lost so much weight that I can fit 00:02:45.72\00:02:47.61 back into my wedding dress again after 00:02:47.62\00:02:49.62 33 years. Your dad has lost weight. 00:02:49.63\00:02:52.37 He's turned his diabetes around and he's 00:02:52.38\00:02:54.93 off his medications for diabetes, 00:02:54.94\00:02:57.05 blood pressure and cholesterol. 00:02:57.06\00:02:58.96 He's feeling great too. Wow! 00:02:58.97\00:03:00.88 It's sounds like the extreme makeover 00:03:00.89\00:03:02.99 that you were always looking for. 00:03:03.00\00:03:04.66 Well, CHIP has really helped us to take 00:03:04.67\00:03:06.72 control of our lives 00:03:06.73\00:03:08.10 and now we have the best life. 00:03:08.11\00:03:10.01 Alright, well done. Good doctor, 00:03:15.16\00:03:16.75 I want to ask you a question before 00:03:16.76\00:03:18.45 we go to Wendy's story. Couple of things, 00:03:18.46\00:03:20.20 at no time tonight, have we used the 00:03:20.21\00:03:22.36 word diet. Why not and what is the 00:03:22.37\00:03:26.06 difference between diet and lifestyle 00:03:26.07\00:03:27.75 from your prospective as a health educator? 00:03:27.76\00:03:29.75 When you go on a diet, you ultimately 00:03:31.21\00:03:34.85 have to go off and that ultimately 00:03:34.86\00:03:37.19 is usually 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks, you go on, 00:03:37.20\00:03:40.62 you go off, you go on, you go off, 00:03:40.63\00:03:42.93 very hard on the body and usually 00:03:42.94\00:03:44.86 at the end of one year 95 percent 00:03:44.87\00:03:47.22 of the people who were on a diet to lose 00:03:47.23\00:03:49.99 weight have gained it back and have extra 00:03:50.00\00:03:52.33 pounds to boot. We don't talk about diet. 00:03:52.34\00:03:55.63 We're talking about a lifestyle change, 00:03:55.64\00:03:58.60 something you can live with for the rest 00:03:58.61\00:04:00.16 of your life you know comfortably, 00:04:00.17\00:04:03.01 so you don't have to do these ups 00:04:03.02\00:04:05.27 and downs, yeah, but rather you make 00:04:05.28\00:04:08.00 the changes gradually or once and for all 00:04:08.01\00:04:11.38 and you zero in. Now with Nancy, 00:04:11.39\00:04:13.53 she made this change, but then she 00:04:14.01\00:04:16.45 cannot plateau it, she got maybe a little 00:04:16.46\00:04:18.20 bit discouraged to follow why, 00:04:18.21\00:04:19.71 but then she got really tightened up 00:04:19.72\00:04:21.49 a little bit more and you were right there. 00:04:21.50\00:04:23.52 Your husband again, he responded as he 00:04:23.53\00:04:27.42 related to the dietary lifestyle program 00:04:27.43\00:04:30.43 and the exercise appropriately, 00:04:30.44\00:04:31.89 so they're directly related. You basically 00:04:32.38\00:04:36.71 get what you work for. Yeah, yeah, 00:04:36.72\00:04:40.16 well done. Nancy, I just want to 00:04:40.17\00:04:42.57 re-emphasize at no time during this 00:04:42.58\00:04:45.31 lifestyle change, did you feel yourself 00:04:45.32\00:04:48.19 deprived or going through some severe 00:04:48.20\00:04:51.85 traumatic kind of thing, it was just 00:04:51.86\00:04:53.72 sort of a natural progression once you 00:04:53.73\00:04:55.28 began to change, what you put in 00:04:55.29\00:04:57.09 your body? What was happening to 00:04:57.10\00:04:58.47 your body? That's correct, I never 00:04:58.48\00:05:00.96 felt deprived, in fact, I felt like I was 00:05:00.97\00:05:03.19 eating better than I ever had in my life. 00:05:03.20\00:05:05.60 The foods were delicious, colorful, 00:05:05.61\00:05:09.15 I enjoyed what I was eating, I enjoyed 00:05:09.16\00:05:11.66 fixing what I was eating, I wished 00:05:11.67\00:05:14.49 I had more time to work in the kitchen, 00:05:14.50\00:05:16.23 so I could try more recipes. I just 00:05:16.24\00:05:18.70 loved cooking and I still do now, 00:05:18.71\00:05:21.58 I love cooking and she look at. 00:05:21.59\00:05:23.31 I love that because, it's a big change 00:05:23.32\00:05:25.49 for you. Because Wendy happen to tell us, 00:05:25.50\00:05:29.56 tell us that during the growing of 00:05:29.57\00:05:31.50 years the kitchen was not exactly your, 00:05:31.51\00:05:33.49 need more expertise. That's right. 00:05:33.50\00:05:36.61 During that time and we're gonna get 00:05:38.25\00:05:39.46 to you sure, but good doctor I want to 00:05:39.47\00:05:40.97 just, yeah, bring back this magazine 00:05:40.98\00:05:44.04 which is our special free offer for the 00:05:44.05\00:05:47.04 evening before we go to your wife's music, 00:05:47.05\00:05:50.04 but the Clinton Health Crisis, 00:05:50.05\00:05:51.81 walk us through what this magazine is all 00:05:51.82\00:05:54.11 about and what the people will receive 00:05:54.12\00:05:55.41 when they get this? Yeah. This magazine 00:05:55.42\00:05:57.73 helps people to understand that not 00:05:57.74\00:06:00.33 only diabetes and hypertension and 00:06:00.34\00:06:02.51 cholesterol are reversible like you 00:06:02.52\00:06:05.46 talked about with your husband, 00:06:05.47\00:06:06.93 but you can actually reverse coronary 00:06:06.94\00:06:09.70 artery disease, the number one killer 00:06:09.71\00:06:12.07 in our society and that's what the 00:06:12.08\00:06:14.17 president is now doing as he has adopted 00:06:14.18\00:06:17.71 himself to a whole foods dietary program. 00:06:18.90\00:06:22.74 Fewer of these refined calories, 00:06:22.75\00:06:25.46 the animal calories, but more of the 00:06:25.47\00:06:28.16 whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables 00:06:28.17\00:06:31.17 and legumes, and that's exactly 00:06:31.18\00:06:32.58 what you did, isn't it? Exactly. 00:06:32.59\00:06:33.90 So you're on the same program. Yes. 00:06:33.91\00:06:35.53 I mean you should be in touch with the 00:06:35.54\00:06:36.83 President here. You know, several 00:06:36.84\00:06:40.03 years ago we went to a dinner at 00:06:40.04\00:06:41.32 the Washington Press Club. 00:06:41.33\00:06:42.43 I could not believe, you know, 00:06:43.19\00:06:45.25 you got Filet mignon, and you got cream 00:06:45.26\00:06:48.14 potatoes, and you got cream spinach 00:06:48.15\00:06:50.27 and creamed asparagus and you know 00:06:50.28\00:06:52.28 all of these things that people think 00:06:52.29\00:06:53.43 we are really eating good and actually 00:06:53.44\00:06:56.16 they're digging, digging their grave 00:06:56.17\00:06:57.50 with that, with that stuff. You know 00:06:57.51\00:06:58.92 the good life that we're all after. Yes. 00:06:58.93\00:07:01.89 It's not really that good. No. 00:07:01.90\00:07:03.30 but really one is the best life, 00:07:03.31\00:07:05.42 'cause that was you found right. 00:07:05.43\00:07:07.18 It's a simpler life and it's a life that is 00:07:07.19\00:07:10.01 related to simpler foods, has to do 00:07:10.02\00:07:14.12 with building relationships both 00:07:14.13\00:07:16.58 on this level and you know, she talked 00:07:16.59\00:07:18.55 about this kind of a level too right. 00:07:18.56\00:07:21.18 Yeah, yeah, yeah. She found a deeper 00:07:21.19\00:07:23.05 meaning in life, yes, she found a deep 00:07:23.06\00:07:24.98 relationship with God. Isn't that what 00:07:24.99\00:07:26.94 happened? Yeah. That's correct. Yeah. 00:07:26.95\00:07:28.70 And that provides the ultimate really, 00:07:28.71\00:07:30.64 resource of energy, yes, to do what 00:07:30.65\00:07:34.13 you think you should do anyway, yeah, 00:07:34.14\00:07:36.27 it makes you kind of victorious and 00:07:36.28\00:07:38.75 following what you think is the right 00:07:38.76\00:07:40.67 thing to do. Yeah, and God has given 00:07:40.68\00:07:42.14 you with this a ministry, because 00:07:42.15\00:07:43.32 CHIP really is a ministry. Yes, 00:07:43.33\00:07:44.54 it is. Yeah, it is a ministry. Wendy you 00:07:44.55\00:07:49.15 actually do get to talk if ever gonna shine 00:07:49.16\00:07:50.77 the spotlight on you, I think we'll give a 00:07:50.78\00:07:52.74 chance just to breath a little bit as we 00:07:52.75\00:07:55.09 call upon your good wife again to play 00:07:55.10\00:07:57.80 for us, and sister Lily Diehl is going to be 00:07:57.81\00:08:01.27 playing I believe it' "Joyful, Joyful 00:08:01.28\00:08:03.89 We Adore Thee" and we'll ask 00:08:03.90\00:08:06.66 her to do that at this very time. 00:08:06.67\00:08:08.98 Amen, well done. I was saying 00:12:46.82\00:12:49.35 to the good doctor that his wife's playing 00:12:49.36\00:12:52.51 style, she has to have very strong hands 00:12:52.52\00:12:54.83 for that to adopt that style and he 00:12:56.17\00:12:57.62 said that she's got, she's got a good 00:12:57.63\00:12:59.19 strong muscle here so he has to behave 00:12:59.20\00:13:00.95 himself or she can give him a good 00:13:00.96\00:13:02.28 karate chop and just end the whole. 00:13:02.29\00:13:04.21 And end the whole deal, so he's got to 00:13:06.00\00:13:07.11 behave himself, but well done, please 00:13:07.12\00:13:10.25 give our regards to your lovely wife. 00:13:10.26\00:13:14.29 Thank you. For doing that music for us. 00:13:14.30\00:13:17.05 You have to eat right to have that 00:13:17.06\00:13:18.47 strength. Yes. Those are vegetarian 00:13:18.48\00:13:20.76 hands I guess. They are, yeah, 00:13:20.77\00:13:22.67 they are. Praise the Lord. We've been 00:13:22.68\00:13:26.04 talking about the CHIP, Coronary 00:13:26.05\00:13:28.30 Health Improvement Project, this very 00:13:28.31\00:13:30.32 night and we dealt with the mother story, 00:13:30.33\00:13:32.79 but as we intimated at the close of the 00:13:33.46\00:13:35.44 first half when you've got something 00:13:35.45\00:13:37.06 good, of course, your natural desire 00:13:37.07\00:13:38.51 is to share and Nancy was no exception 00:13:38.52\00:13:41.84 as she wanted to share with her daughter 00:13:41.85\00:13:46.84 Wendy and I need to ask you, 00:13:46.85\00:13:48.36 when Nancy began this changes you're 00:13:48.37\00:13:50.64 already out of the house. Yeah, 00:13:50.65\00:13:52.14 I moved out when I was 15 and I have 00:13:52.15\00:13:54.60 been living away from home for several 00:13:54.61\00:13:56.78 years at the point, so our lifestyles 00:13:56.79\00:13:59.62 were very separate and she kind of did 00:13:59.63\00:14:01.91 her thing and I did my thing and we just 00:14:01.92\00:14:04.90 let each other do their thing and that was, 00:14:04.91\00:14:07.53 that was, how it was. Were you 00:14:07.54\00:14:10.29 kind of aware that she had begun going 00:14:10.30\00:14:12.71 to church and was beginning to investigate 00:14:12.72\00:14:14.83 something, were you getting information 00:14:14.84\00:14:16.88 on that? A little bit, at that point 00:14:16.89\00:14:19.02 I was away at college and I was 00:14:19.03\00:14:20.85 of state and so I really wasn't home 00:14:20.86\00:14:23.60 very often and I, I knew that she had been 00:14:23.61\00:14:26.66 exploring a little bit. They, my whole 00:14:26.67\00:14:29.15 childhood, my parents had been looking 00:14:29.16\00:14:31.90 for the one true church or for the biblical 00:14:31.91\00:14:36.34 teachings the church that taught them 00:14:36.35\00:14:38.08 and they kind of hopped around places, 00:14:38.09\00:14:40.81 but never found what they were looking 00:14:40.82\00:14:44.38 for and so I kind of felt they were 00:14:44.39\00:14:48.60 just hopping around again, they wasn't 00:14:48.61\00:14:51.50 anything to it. It was just checking 00:14:51.51\00:14:53.89 things out, checking out the churches and 00:14:53.90\00:14:55.88 so I knew they were kind of getting 00:14:55.89\00:14:58.04 involved with the church and starting 00:14:58.05\00:15:00.39 to learn about things, but that was really the, 00:15:00.40\00:15:02.31 I didn't think it was anything 00:15:03.05\00:15:04.02 significant or serious.. Did you have 00:15:04.03\00:15:06.63 a name, did you, had you heard the name 00:15:06.64\00:15:08.20 Seventh-day Adventist or anything? 00:15:08.21\00:15:09.54 You know I don't think I had, 00:15:09.55\00:15:11.09 maybe in passing once or twice, 00:15:11.10\00:15:12.90 but it was very none, there wasn't much 00:15:12.91\00:15:17.94 said about it. It was just, 00:15:17.95\00:15:19.25 we're kind of going, we went to a seminar 00:15:19.26\00:15:21.44 and it was about prophecy and of course 00:15:21.45\00:15:22.98 that was something they're always very 00:15:22.99\00:15:24.22 interested in, it was learning about 00:15:24.23\00:15:25.36 prophecy and you know at this point, 00:15:25.37\00:15:27.25 I kind of stopped being interested in that. 00:15:27.26\00:15:30.56 When I was young and I saw them looking at, 00:15:30.57\00:15:32.83 kind of appealed to me a little, 00:15:32.84\00:15:34.03 what are they looking for, but they kept 00:15:34.04\00:15:36.41 looking and looking and looking and never 00:15:36.42\00:15:37.65 finding anything and so I just sort of 00:15:37.66\00:15:40.56 felt well, they're just looking and they're 00:15:40.57\00:15:43.03 never gonna find anything. Right. 00:15:43.04\00:15:44.49 And so I was focused on my college 00:15:44.82\00:15:48.93 education and my career path 00:15:48.94\00:15:50.65 and, and what were you studying in school? 00:15:50.66\00:15:52.10 I was actually a technical theater major, 00:15:52.11\00:15:54.54 an undergraduate and then I did my 00:15:54.55\00:15:56.29 Masters in arts management and 00:15:56.30\00:15:58.12 I was very, my high schools was actually 00:15:59.12\00:16:01.71 very science focused, math and science 00:16:01.72\00:16:03.33 focused, and then I went all arts in 00:16:03.34\00:16:05.58 college and kind of business oriented 00:16:05.59\00:16:09.12 as well. And that was, I had a, 00:16:09.13\00:16:11.62 I was in a conservatory program, 00:16:11.63\00:16:13.03 I was at Carnegie Mellon University 00:16:13.04\00:16:14.58 and it was very focused and very intense 00:16:14.59\00:16:19.30 program and students who graduate 00:16:19.31\00:16:23.46 from there go on to good career 00:16:23.47\00:16:25.48 and so to me that was path that had a clear 00:16:25.49\00:16:28.42 direction, a clear, a clear place to go 00:16:28.43\00:16:32.30 in life, and so that was my focus and 00:16:32.97\00:16:35.86 I thought she is kind of, my parents 00:16:35.87\00:16:37.89 kind of just running, hopping around 00:16:37.90\00:16:40.53 looking the things and I'm on a path 00:16:40.54\00:16:43.73 and I'm, it's gonna work for me, yeah, 00:16:43.74\00:16:46.64 and so now, you know that was how 00:16:46.65\00:16:48.09 I was just going. How then did 00:16:48.10\00:16:52.18 it intersect for you, 'cause we know 00:16:52.19\00:16:54.43 your mother is feeding you with bits 00:16:54.44\00:16:55.68 and pieces of information which you're 00:16:55.69\00:16:57.20 pretty much putting on a shelf. 00:16:57.21\00:16:58.55 Where did the intersection come? Well, 00:16:58.56\00:17:01.01 when I was just beginning in college 00:17:01.02\00:17:04.04 and toward the end of high school 00:17:04.05\00:17:05.02 and early college I had found out that I 00:17:05.03\00:17:07.42 was struggling with some different food 00:17:07.43\00:17:09.92 intolerances and I0 had some different 00:17:09.93\00:17:12.66 health issues and it was just I was 00:17:12.67\00:17:14.59 realizing at that point that I was probably 00:17:14.60\00:17:17.02 very intolerant and that what, 00:17:17.03\00:17:18.55 that was the first thing that turned 00:17:18.56\00:17:20.08 out to be, and because of that I had 00:17:20.09\00:17:23.56 to learn a whole new way of eating. 00:17:23.57\00:17:25.19 I had to do a lot of research on different 00:17:25.20\00:17:28.12 foods that were out there and health and 00:17:28.13\00:17:31.32 what's going wrong with me that I can't 00:17:32.03\00:17:34.76 eat like everybody else and all these 00:17:34.77\00:17:36.89 campaigns, milk does the body good 00:17:36.90\00:17:38.74 and I was struggling with that 'cause 00:17:39.18\00:17:40.98 it wasn't doing my body good, 00:17:40.99\00:17:42.51 and but I was being brain washed with 00:17:43.47\00:17:46.06 this over and over and over again that 00:17:46.07\00:17:48.10 it was suppose to be good for me, 00:17:48.11\00:17:49.93 but every time I had it, I was in pain 00:17:49.94\00:17:52.00 and suffering and struggling. 00:17:52.01\00:17:53.26 You have to had pain from. I did, I did, 00:17:53.27\00:17:55.39 I had severe digestive issues and 00:17:55.40\00:17:57.33 it was very painful and I realized I had 00:17:57.34\00:18:00.79 to make a change and after about 2 years 00:18:00.80\00:18:03.66 of trying it in and out of my diet 00:18:03.67\00:18:04.97 I finally convinced myself yes, its that 00:18:04.98\00:18:07.13 and I got it out of my diet. Alright, 00:18:07.14\00:18:09.27 let me just stop you there one second 00:18:09.28\00:18:10.38 and ask you good doctor, is this Lactose 00:18:10.39\00:18:13.09 intolerance, is that a common thing in 00:18:13.10\00:18:15.00 United States or it's gonna a rare thing? 00:18:15.01\00:18:16.94 Well, it's fairly common occurrence worldwide. 00:18:17.76\00:18:22.00 In this country here you have more then 00:18:22.95\00:18:25.18 most people realize and particularly in the 00:18:25.19\00:18:27.58 Afro-American Community it could be 00:18:27.59\00:18:29.84 very prevalent, 30, 40 percent. So it's not a 00:18:29.85\00:18:34.25 minimal issue. Okay. And actually for me 00:18:34.26\00:18:39.11 it was the protein, the milk protein that was 00:18:39.12\00:18:41.26 causing the problems which was in everything 00:18:41.27\00:18:43.57 and then they put casein and whey 00:18:43.58\00:18:45.29 in butter, in taco seasonings of all places, 00:18:45.30\00:18:50.55 I mean it was everything that I had 00:18:50.56\00:18:52.43 to start reading ingredients on 00:18:52.44\00:18:53.93 and learning how to eat in a new way 00:18:53.94\00:18:56.73 and so I started studying this and 00:18:56.74\00:18:59.11 researching a lot and I came across vegan 00:18:59.12\00:19:02.93 foods and kosher foods, because 00:19:02.94\00:19:05.96 you know kosher powder foods these didn't 00:19:05.97\00:19:08.68 have dairy, so they were great for me 00:19:08.69\00:19:10.59 and I kind of called them joking loud 00:19:11.27\00:19:13.10 said, I'm a vegan who eats meat, 00:19:13.11\00:19:14.65 because you know I thought I still had 00:19:14.66\00:19:16.04 to eat meat, so I would take vegan food 00:19:16.05\00:19:17.76 and I throw meat into them. And, 00:19:17.77\00:19:20.17 but I started cleaning up my diet 00:19:20.79\00:19:22.80 and making healthy changes, but despite 00:19:22.81\00:19:26.49 those healthy changes I was still putting 00:19:26.50\00:19:28.08 on weight. By age 20, I was the size 14 00:19:28.09\00:19:31.67 and I was heading down the same path 00:19:31.68\00:19:33.24 as my parents and for reference I'm a 00:19:33.25\00:19:36.42 size four now, so it was, I never, 00:19:36.43\00:19:39.77 I didn't think it was possible to be that 00:19:39.78\00:19:42.40 size but, to be the 14 or the 4? The 4, 00:19:42.41\00:19:45.93 it wasn't even on our radar growing up, yeah, 00:19:46.78\00:19:49.22 you know I so, I had started making 00:19:50.55\00:19:53.54 these changes and then one summer 00:19:53.55\00:19:57.03 I was back in my home town area, 00:19:57.04\00:19:59.71 there was a theater there I was working 00:19:59.72\00:20:01.12 at and I didn't live at home, 00:20:01.13\00:20:02.85 I lived at the theater, but I came home 00:20:02.86\00:20:05.03 few times to visit. And towards the end 00:20:05.04\00:20:09.95 of that summer I came home for the weekend, 00:20:09.96\00:20:13.86 last weekend I was there and I wanted to 00:20:13.87\00:20:17.57 repaint my parent's house for that, 00:20:18.55\00:20:21.52 repaint one of the rooms. Nice gesture. 00:20:21.53\00:20:23.63 Yeah, it had, it was getting old and 00:20:23.64\00:20:26.13 tarnished and needed to clean up and 00:20:26.14\00:20:28.78 my parents, I knew at this point they were 00:20:29.99\00:20:31.42 going to the church regularly and they had 00:20:31.43\00:20:34.89 been talking about it, more about this 00:20:34.90\00:20:37.03 church and what it taught. You know I was 00:20:37.04\00:20:40.43 okay with them going, but it was their 00:20:40.44\00:20:42.41 thing and it wasn't my thing, it was 00:20:42.42\00:20:45.82 their thing and I said whatever they wanna 00:20:45.83\00:20:47.81 believe, whatever they wanna do, 00:20:47.82\00:20:49.52 that's okay, that's their choice and I 00:20:49.53\00:20:53.16 respect that. But towards the end of the 00:20:53.17\00:20:57.47 summer you know there was more interaction 00:20:57.48\00:21:00.06 around this and my mum had talked 00:21:00.07\00:21:03.51 about the Sabbath and I knew that 00:21:03.52\00:21:05.80 she talked about keeping the Sabbath 00:21:05.81\00:21:08.57 holy and that kind of thing and I knew 00:21:09.03\00:21:11.13 a little bit about that you know she didn't go 00:21:11.14\00:21:12.59 out to work, she didn't do certain things, 00:21:12.60\00:21:15.17 but I didn't really know what that meant 00:21:15.18\00:21:18.02 in detail and she actually, when I went 00:21:18.03\00:21:24.56 to paint, I wanted to paint the house 00:21:24.57\00:21:26.92 and I had my plan all worked out. 00:21:26.93\00:21:28.70 It was the last week I was home. 00:21:28.71\00:21:30.44 I had full schedule I was going to, 00:21:30.45\00:21:32.69 on Friday morning I was going to go, 00:21:34.02\00:21:35.69 buy the materials, I come home and 00:21:35.70\00:21:38.07 I'd move everything away Friday afternoon 00:21:38.08\00:21:40.67 and evening and then I paint all day 00:21:40.68\00:21:43.10 Saturday and then put everything back 00:21:43.11\00:21:45.47 Saturday night, and then do myself Sunday 00:21:45.48\00:21:48.71 and pack and leave on Monday. And when 00:21:48.72\00:21:51.94 I stared to tell her this plan she stopped me 00:21:51.95\00:21:55.68 and she kind of got this look on her face 00:21:56.45\00:21:59.50 that was very sad, and maybe a little 00:21:59.51\00:22:03.78 hurt and she said, she said, well, can we 00:22:03.79\00:22:11.02 do it after the Sabbath and I said, why, 00:22:11.03\00:22:16.99 why does it matter? Well, it's, I just, 00:22:19.88\00:22:22.58 it's the Sabbath, and I don't think 00:22:22.59\00:22:24.62 you should work on the Sabbath 00:22:24.63\00:22:25.99 and I wanted to respect her beliefs, 00:22:27.71\00:22:32.31 but at the same time I didn't want her 00:22:32.32\00:22:35.60 controlling me and that's what I thought 00:22:35.61\00:22:37.37 it was and when I said, you know, this, 00:22:37.38\00:22:40.59 it's fine I don't mind, I don't mind 00:22:40.60\00:22:43.08 doing this. It's not work to me, 00:22:43.09\00:22:44.52 I want to do it. Then she kind of told me 00:22:44.53\00:22:48.27 some of the scripture and you know, 00:22:48.28\00:22:50.46 you're not, the Bible says you know you're 00:22:50.47\00:22:52.42 not suppose to work on the Sabbath 00:22:52.43\00:22:54.00 and I thought she was kind of guilt 00:22:55.15\00:22:56.82 tripping me. I actually, I really felt like 00:22:56.83\00:23:03.26 she was trying to control me and control 00:23:03.27\00:23:06.04 what I was doing and it hurt me and 00:23:06.05\00:23:10.39 that combined with some other things that 00:23:10.40\00:23:13.46 had come up that weekend just really 00:23:13.47\00:23:18.65 hurt me very deeply and I actually 00:23:19.36\00:23:20.92 stopped talking to her for almost a year, 00:23:20.93\00:23:23.45 for about 9 months and. So you're very 00:23:23.46\00:23:27.52 passionate about this. It was something 00:23:27.53\00:23:29.17 that really. Yeah, you know it was, 00:23:29.18\00:23:31.68 I had grown up in a, you know, 00:23:33.77\00:23:36.22 she mentioned in the first half they didn't 00:23:36.23\00:23:38.50 go to the church, but they both had 00:23:38.51\00:23:40.25 a strong belief in the Bible and 00:23:40.26\00:23:42.09 we've grown up in a community that was 00:23:42.10\00:23:45.01 fairly Christian and you know a lot of 00:23:45.02\00:23:47.52 people went to church, but there was 00:23:47.53\00:23:49.60 a lot of fire and brimstone in churches 00:23:49.61\00:23:51.36 and when I would see Pastors on TV, 00:23:51.37\00:23:53.27 there was a lot of, it was a lot of fire 00:23:53.28\00:23:56.02 and brimstone and that didn't align 00:23:56.03\00:23:59.39 with the God I knew and I always believed 00:23:59.40\00:24:03.29 in a higher power and I always felt that 00:24:03.30\00:24:05.65 relationship, but when I saw certain churches 00:24:05.66\00:24:10.10 were teaching and how certain people 00:24:10.11\00:24:11.52 were acting who called themselves 00:24:11.53\00:24:13.16 Christians, I didn't feel like that was 00:24:13.17\00:24:19.03 what this higher power was telling me. 00:24:19.04\00:24:21.58 And so then I kind of rebelled against 00:24:21.59\00:24:26.79 the lot of that. I didn't, I knew that 00:24:26.80\00:24:28.42 wasn't the right way and I didn't want 00:24:28.43\00:24:30.08 anything to do with that and so 00:24:30.09\00:24:33.74 when she started trying to control my life 00:24:33.75\00:24:37.25 or what it felt in me like she was trying 00:24:37.26\00:24:38.82 to control my life. I got very hurt 00:24:38.83\00:24:43.50 by that, very standoffish, and I 00:24:43.51\00:24:47.01 didn't want anything to do with it 00:24:47.02\00:24:49.01 and I said, you can believe what you 00:24:49.02\00:24:51.24 want to believe and if you feel that 00:24:51.25\00:24:54.52 this is what you need to do, you go ahead 00:24:54.53\00:24:58.34 and do that, but don't expect me to join 00:24:58.35\00:25:01.93 you on that. Don't, you know, 00:25:01.94\00:25:03.96 that's not what I believe. My whole 00:25:03.97\00:25:06.04 career at that point was depended upon 00:25:06.05\00:25:08.24 working Friday night and Saturday. 00:25:08.25\00:25:09.61 I was in theater and that's when 00:25:09.62\00:25:11.14 performances are. And I did believe that, 00:25:11.15\00:25:14.99 that was where God had called me go 00:25:15.00\00:25:16.26 to school and so it didn't, it didn't 00:25:16.27\00:25:19.02 align for me, but as we, you know, 00:25:19.03\00:25:24.98 we went our separated ways, 00:25:24.99\00:25:26.45 we didn't end on a very good note 00:25:26.46\00:25:28.83 that weekend. Did you finish that room, 00:25:28.84\00:25:31.47 did you paint that? I did, I did, 00:25:31.48\00:25:32.86 I painted, I did, I did paint it. 00:25:32.87\00:25:35.74 I did all myself because she didn't, 00:25:35.75\00:25:38.55 she wasn't gonna help and I said, 00:25:38.56\00:25:41.31 well, that's fine, I'm just gonna do it, 00:25:41.32\00:25:43.48 I'm not gonna make her work, 00:25:43.49\00:25:44.74 yeah, alright, because that would violate 00:25:44.75\00:25:47.16 her beliefs but it wasn't my belief. 00:25:47.17\00:25:50.20 So I felt entitled to work. So the whole, 00:25:50.21\00:25:53.47 thy son nor thy daughter nor the 00:25:53.48\00:25:54.80 cattle that. I didn't know about that part. 00:25:54.81\00:25:57.43 It wasn't until about a year or two later 00:25:59.19\00:26:01.52 that I read that part and realized oh, 00:26:01.53\00:26:03.86 that was why she was concerned. 00:26:03.87\00:26:07.05 Well, let me hold just a second, Nancy, 00:26:07.06\00:26:08.93 how did you feel? She obviously rejected 00:26:08.94\00:26:10.92 what you were trying to share? 00:26:10.93\00:26:11.99 You were sharing it from your heart. 00:26:12.00\00:26:13.20 She is painting your house on the Sabbath 00:26:13.21\00:26:15.02 what was going on in my mind and head? Well, 00:26:15.03\00:26:16.58 I was very grateful that she wanted 00:26:16.59\00:26:18.89 to do this for us. I thought it was a 00:26:18.90\00:26:21.30 wonderful idea and I knew she was doing 00:26:21.31\00:26:23.93 this out of the goodness of her heart 00:26:23.94\00:26:25.39 and the love for us and it just bothered 00:26:25.40\00:26:29.49 me that she wanted to do it on the Lord's 00:26:29.50\00:26:33.15 Sabbath day, the day of rest, and I felt 00:26:33.16\00:26:37.58 that she could just adjust the time, 00:26:37.59\00:26:39.55 so that she could do it on Saturday night 00:26:39.56\00:26:41.67 and Sunday, do other things you know on 00:26:41.68\00:26:45.02 the Sabbath and I tried to make it clear 00:26:45.03\00:26:49.32 that I wasn't trying to control her life 00:26:49.33\00:26:53.62 or tell her you have to do things this way 00:26:53.63\00:26:55.75 and I guess I didn't come across very 00:26:56.95\00:26:58.88 well on that, because that's not the way 00:26:58.89\00:27:00.66 she took it, but that was the intent was 00:27:00.67\00:27:06.05 that, I didn't want people work, since 00:27:06.06\00:27:11.64 I didn't work on the Sabbath, 00:27:11.65\00:27:13.21 I didn't want others working for me 00:27:13.22\00:27:16.12 or doing work for me on the Sabbath either, 00:27:16.13\00:27:18.95 because the command says, you know, 00:27:19.82\00:27:21.86 neither thy son, nor thy daughter, 00:27:21.87\00:27:23.63 maid-servant, the man-servant within 00:27:23.64\00:27:26.81 your gates you know, yeah, and I had 00:27:26.82\00:27:30.00 mentioned that to her and I think that 00:27:30.01\00:27:32.15 just kind of, she took it even harder that 00:27:32.16\00:27:34.81 it was, I was laying a guilt-trip on her. 00:27:34.82\00:27:37.81 That's exactly what I thought. 00:27:37.82\00:27:39.62 Well, you were painting now as of with 00:27:39.63\00:27:41.09 a clenched fist. Yeah, yes, exactly 00:27:41.10\00:27:43.82 oh, I was, I very much was. I didn't tell her 00:27:43.83\00:27:48.82 she couldn't do it, but I just left it, 00:27:48.83\00:27:51.87 left it go at that point. Yeah, yeah, 00:27:51.88\00:27:53.75 did you guys going to church and 00:27:53.76\00:27:54.98 sort of just live there or you around 00:27:54.99\00:27:56.63 the house or? I don't remember. 00:27:56.64\00:27:58.80 You know I think they actually were 00:27:58.81\00:27:59.97 Friday night they went to bed and that's 00:27:59.98\00:28:02.32 what I started moving the first, because 00:28:02.33\00:28:04.24 I didn't want to make them mad so I just 00:28:04.25\00:28:07.36 did while they were sleeping, and then put 00:28:07.37\00:28:11.99 everything back the next day and I just 00:28:12.00\00:28:14.14 did it on my own and. But it's so interesting 00:28:14.15\00:28:16.44 isn't it? You have feel your love, 00:28:16.45\00:28:19.33 you have the love of a daughter who wants 00:28:19.34\00:28:21.12 to do something nice for the parents. 00:28:21.13\00:28:22.62 The parents have a different belief system 00:28:22.63\00:28:24.80 than she has and all of a sudden you have 00:28:24.81\00:28:26.65 two things in collision and both 00:28:26.66\00:28:28.23 parties are well intentions, 00:28:28.24\00:28:29.72 isn't that right? Yes, yes, yes. 00:28:29.73\00:28:31.35 This is what happens sometimes, isn't it? 00:28:31.36\00:28:33.21 How did you resolve this whole things? 00:28:33.22\00:28:34.99 Well, about 9 months later in the following 00:28:35.00\00:28:38.21 spring, my brother had returned a car 00:28:38.22\00:28:41.20 back to my parents house, so now there's 00:28:41.21\00:28:43.34 an extra car and I could get it and 00:28:43.35\00:28:44.88 take it back to school. So this is a year 00:28:44.89\00:28:46.50 of silence now you have, pretty much yeah, 00:28:46.51\00:28:48.49 we talked a few times, but it was just 00:28:48.50\00:28:50.96 business. It was, you got this mail, okay, 00:28:50.97\00:28:53.80 send it to me or file it and I, there was 00:28:53.81\00:28:57.82 no emotion, no heart to heart, 00:28:57.83\00:28:59.99 it was just business or and it was very 00:29:00.00\00:29:03.10 tense at least for me all the time, 00:29:03.11\00:29:04.83 because I was upset, I was angry, 00:29:06.80\00:29:08.80 I felt like she was trying to control me 00:29:08.81\00:29:13.74 and I was in college now and I've been 00:29:13.75\00:29:16.06 living on my own for a long time and 00:29:16.07\00:29:17.76 I didn't want my parents controlling me 00:29:17.77\00:29:20.46 anymore. You're paddling own canoe. 00:29:20.47\00:29:21.83 Exactly, and I was, you know, 00:29:21.84\00:29:24.66 I was determined to make a life for myself 00:29:24.67\00:29:29.50 and have a good life and I didn't want 00:29:29.51\00:29:34.01 anything interfering with that and so, 00:29:34.02\00:29:36.88 I you know, I sort of made up my mind about 00:29:36.89\00:29:39.94 certain things I believed and didn't 00:29:39.95\00:29:41.13 believe and that was not something that 00:29:41.14\00:29:44.18 I had believed at that time and so. 00:29:44.19\00:29:46.35 How did you feel Nancy during that time, 00:29:46.85\00:29:48.75 It must have been hard to be without a 00:29:48.76\00:29:51.02 daughter that you care deeply about right? 00:29:51.03\00:29:52.96 It was difficult because we had 00:29:52.97\00:29:55.18 communicated in the previous years of her 00:29:55.19\00:29:57.86 education and I wanted to make a point 00:29:57.87\00:30:01.21 too that she mentioned she moved out at 15, 00:30:01.94\00:30:03.90 well, she didn't move out because she 00:30:03.91\00:30:05.80 didn't like home, she moved out to 00:30:05.81\00:30:08.00 go to a residential school where she 00:30:08.01\00:30:10.76 could get the education she wanted, 00:30:10.77\00:30:12.54 and so it was a mutual thing for 00:30:13.16\00:30:15.45 her to move out. So you're very focused 00:30:15.46\00:30:16.66 educationally from fairly young you 00:30:16.67\00:30:18.67 had an idea what you're gonna do 00:30:18.68\00:30:20.07 and where you're gonna go, 00:30:20.08\00:30:21.05 and then it turned out that she got summer 00:30:21.06\00:30:22.37 jobs at that same school, so it kept her 00:30:22.38\00:30:24.92 there even in the summer time. 00:30:24.93\00:30:26.21 So she became very independent 00:30:26.92\00:30:28.58 at age 15, yeah, and this showed, 00:30:28.59\00:30:31.72 as a college student now I mean 00:30:31.73\00:30:34.09 we had communicated well and we're 00:30:34.10\00:30:35.87 doing fine relationship wise 00:30:35.88\00:30:37.96 until this occurred. And I just felt that 00:30:37.97\00:30:41.34 at that point, I need to just let 00:30:41.35\00:30:44.33 her go, don't try to make up, 00:30:44.34\00:30:49.44 in case of make up you know 00:30:49.45\00:30:51.22 at this point I just felt like let her 00:30:51.23\00:30:53.48 do what she needs to do, 00:30:53.49\00:30:54.81 what she wants to do and I kind 00:30:54.82\00:30:57.22 of felt a spiritual sense of you 00:30:57.23\00:31:01.29 might say God telling me, let her go, 00:31:01.30\00:31:03.96 don't worry about it. And so that's 00:31:04.00\00:31:06.56 what I did, and so she said, she, 00:31:06.57\00:31:09.23 we felt tense when we communicated. 00:31:09.24\00:31:11.63 I didn't feel that she did, 00:31:11.97\00:31:14.54 but I just felt but it was a surface 00:31:14.55\00:31:20.05 communication you know just things 00:31:20.06\00:31:22.19 were on the surface, but I didn't delve 00:31:22.20\00:31:25.30 into her life or her privacy or anything 00:31:25.31\00:31:28.32 like that and just let her go. 00:31:28.33\00:31:30.35 Yeah, I can see that as Dr. Hans said, 00:31:30.36\00:31:32.92 kind of paddling your own canoe since 15 00:31:32.93\00:31:35.10 on your own, I'm in college now and 00:31:35.11\00:31:36.83 this woman was gonna try to control 00:31:36.84\00:31:38.16 my life, no way. And of course you maybe 00:31:38.17\00:31:40.24 feeling a little guilty. Alright. I was, 00:31:40.25\00:31:43.11 I was, I definitely was and you know it 00:31:43.12\00:31:47.00 was an odd kind of guilt too, 00:31:47.01\00:31:48.80 because I felt like I did everything right. 00:31:48.81\00:31:52.69 I was respectful of her beliefs. 00:31:52.70\00:31:54.63 I just didn't believe it by myself, yeah, 00:31:55.01\00:31:57.84 and so I really felt like I was 00:31:57.85\00:32:01.38 doing everything that I needed to do, 00:32:01.39\00:32:04.14 but I was still violating the laws 00:32:04.63\00:32:08.86 of the land, you know I was still violating 00:32:08.87\00:32:10.76 the way God created His system to 00:32:10.77\00:32:15.05 to work and so He put that, that, I think 00:32:15.06\00:32:19.51 he put that in my heart and gave me 00:32:19.52\00:32:21.60 that sense of, you know there is something 00:32:21.61\00:32:24.47 I want you to learn here Wendy, 00:32:24.48\00:32:25.85 that was sort of the feeling 00:32:25.86\00:32:28.20 and I didn't, I didn't want to relinquish 00:32:28.21\00:32:30.88 that for a long time. But going back 00:32:30.89\00:32:34.41 to what you have mentioned about 00:32:34.42\00:32:35.39 coming home, how do we come back 00:32:36.15\00:32:39.07 together? I had to go home to get 00:32:39.08\00:32:41.44 this car. Yes. I needed, I wanted 00:32:41.45\00:32:44.61 this car. It wasn't a very good car, 00:32:44.62\00:32:46.82 but it was a car and I wanted it 00:32:46.83\00:32:49.12 at school and so I had to come 00:32:49.13\00:32:51.66 home and get it, but I had to do it 00:32:51.67\00:32:53.37 in one weekend get back for class. 00:32:53.38\00:32:54.84 They lived very remotely and at 00:32:54.85\00:32:57.28 this point, there was many foods that I 00:32:57.29\00:32:58.91 was not eating, because of my food 00:32:58.92\00:33:00.99 intolerances, and I had to have her 00:33:01.00\00:33:03.77 pick up some food for me, 00:33:03.78\00:33:05.67 but I wanted her to get vegan butter 00:33:06.85\00:33:10.55 and soy milk, because I was dairy free 00:33:10.56\00:33:12.77 and knowing she came from a dairy 00:33:12.78\00:33:14.90 farm and they basically lived out on 00:33:14.91\00:33:16.49 a beef farm, I thought she is going 00:33:16.50\00:33:17.98 think I am crazy when I ask for this, 00:33:17.99\00:33:19.82 and I, but I was still so hurt. 00:33:20.51\00:33:23.35 I went through everything I could 00:33:23.36\00:33:26.69 come up with, every way I could 00:33:26.70\00:33:28.33 think of that I could go, get this stuff 00:33:28.34\00:33:30.91 myself instead of having to ask her 00:33:30.92\00:33:32.51 for it, but there was just no option 00:33:32.52\00:33:34.23 and I had do it, so I sent her 00:33:34.24\00:33:35.84 an email and I hesitantly write 00:33:35.85\00:33:39.03 you know, I know I'm not gonna be 00:33:39.04\00:33:40.50 home for long. Can you, can you pick up 00:33:40.51\00:33:42.31 these things, so I can eat while 00:33:42.32\00:33:43.76 I'm there. And I am expecting her to right 00:33:43.77\00:33:46.49 back and be like, are you crazy you know 00:33:46.50\00:33:49.13 what, but you want vegan butter 00:33:49.14\00:33:50.56 and soy milk for because you know, 00:33:50.57\00:33:52.77 being a vegetarian and where we lived 00:33:52.78\00:33:55.45 was crazy, it was I mean you were weird 00:33:55.46\00:33:59.43 if you were a vegetarian, so 00:33:59.44\00:34:00.95 vegan butter and soy milk that 00:34:00.96\00:34:02.97 would have been over the top. 00:34:02.98\00:34:04.04 And I, so I very hesitantly emailed 00:34:05.42\00:34:08.81 her and I'm expecting just you know 00:34:08.82\00:34:11.89 a crazy response back and instead she writes 00:34:11.90\00:34:16.08 me back and she says this is really cool. 00:34:16.09\00:34:17.76 We're learning about this in our church 00:34:19.03\00:34:20.77 and I said, your church teaches about health? 00:34:23.16\00:34:29.93 You mean your church actually cares 00:34:31.25\00:34:33.08 about people, because in my experience 00:34:33.09\00:34:36.13 at this point the church didn't care about 00:34:36.14\00:34:38.34 people. My church encounters 00:34:38.35\00:34:40.38 were not caring. They were judgmental 00:34:40.39\00:34:45.03 and critical and that wasn't right 00:34:45.04\00:34:48.09 to me. So that arrested you that 00:34:48.10\00:34:49.59 idea that they. Yeah, I was very shocked 00:34:49.60\00:34:54.75 that this church was teaching something 00:34:55.56\00:34:57.50 that actually helped people where 00:34:57.51\00:35:00.28 they were and so I started asking 00:35:00.29\00:35:05.18 her more questions then. Well, what do they 00:35:05.19\00:35:08.63 teach about health? And she said, 00:35:08.64\00:35:11.17 well supposedly vegetarian and that 00:35:11.18\00:35:13.67 put up a red flag to me, 00:35:13.68\00:35:14.99 because I had been studying a lot about 00:35:15.00\00:35:18.16 health and I had been coming across 00:35:18.17\00:35:20.68 a lot of, you know, the veggie foods 00:35:20.69\00:35:23.53 were that this processed foods were 00:35:23.54\00:35:27.41 hitting the market and because of, 00:35:27.42\00:35:31.67 I'm very sensitive to MSG and I 00:35:31.68\00:35:33.96 had realized that a lot of these foods 00:35:33.97\00:35:35.46 are loaded with MSG in various forms. 00:35:35.47\00:35:38.85 All those meats substitutes. Yeah, 00:35:38.86\00:35:40.63 hidden forms but I was reacting to 00:35:40.64\00:35:43.22 them and so I knew these foods 00:35:43.23\00:35:44.69 weren't healthy and they were 00:35:44.70\00:35:45.76 as high in fat as their counterparts 00:35:45.77\00:35:47.86 a lot of time. Many times, yes. 00:35:47.87\00:35:49.20 And so I knew these weren't healthy 00:35:49.21\00:35:50.99 and I thought well, this church must just 00:35:51.00\00:35:52.96 be pushing you know vegetarian products 00:35:52.97\00:35:56.05 that are out there so they can 00:35:56.06\00:35:57.25 make a buck and that was my first thought. 00:35:57.26\00:36:00.28 And she said, no, no, I don't think 00:36:01.59\00:36:04.36 they are. She said, I have this recipe book 00:36:04.37\00:36:07.42 and I'm pretty sure you can eat most 00:36:07.43\00:36:10.50 of what's in it, and so I got kind of 00:36:10.51\00:36:13.65 interested and she started passing along 00:36:13.66\00:36:15.87 some materials to me and she started 00:36:15.88\00:36:18.18 showing me CHIP materials with me 00:36:18.19\00:36:19.38 and I started reading them and I was 00:36:20.09\00:36:23.51 so impressed by what they had 00:36:23.52\00:36:26.00 to say, because everything that I had 00:36:26.01\00:36:28.96 been studying on my own, from my own 00:36:28.97\00:36:31.14 research, praise God, was leading towards 00:36:31.15\00:36:33.90 this way of eating, but everyone, 00:36:33.91\00:36:35.74 it was, there is still so much marketing 00:36:35.75\00:36:37.81 influence from industries and it was 00:36:37.82\00:36:41.40 watering down the truth. It was you 00:36:41.41\00:36:44.53 need to eat more whole foods, you need 00:36:44.54\00:36:45.84 to eat more fruits and vegetables, 00:36:45.85\00:36:47.02 more fruits is grown, but make sure 00:36:47.03\00:36:49.98 you still get me dairy and all these 00:36:49.99\00:36:51.95 other things at the end. And so I thought 00:36:51.96\00:36:54.23 I didn't think I could ever rid of 00:36:54.24\00:36:55.68 those things, I thought I just had to 00:36:55.69\00:36:57.17 make, you know eat more fruits 00:36:57.18\00:36:59.17 and vegetables. Now just a deal 00:36:59.18\00:37:00.79 with time all this was prior to you 00:37:00.80\00:37:02.76 come to get the car. You would establishes 00:37:02.77\00:37:04.63 little routine. This was around the 00:37:04.64\00:37:07.57 same time, so this conversation was going 00:37:07.58\00:37:09.99 home to get the car is really what opened 00:37:10.00\00:37:11.87 the door to things. To all this. 00:37:11.88\00:37:13.01 And I came home and got it, 00:37:13.02\00:37:14.44 you know this conversation had 00:37:14.45\00:37:15.90 came out of that and, and that was on going. 00:37:15.91\00:37:18.18 Yeah, even that was ongoing and so in fact, 00:37:18.19\00:37:20.93 I think she gave me some other 00:37:20.94\00:37:22.38 materials while I was home and so 00:37:22.39\00:37:26.54 I took them back with me and as 00:37:26.55\00:37:28.70 I was reading them I was just really 00:37:28.71\00:37:30.15 impressed, because not only was the science 00:37:30.16\00:37:33.26 valid with what I had been studying, 00:37:33.27\00:37:36.48 but it went further, it took it a 00:37:36.49\00:37:40.38 step further there was more depth there 00:37:40.39\00:37:42.22 then what I had found before, 00:37:42.23\00:37:43.95 and there was a strong realization to me 00:37:43.96\00:37:49.89 that I didn't need to eat meat 00:37:49.90\00:37:52.34 to be healthy, but this wasn't the staple. 00:37:52.35\00:37:54.85 The required food that I had been brought 00:37:54.86\00:37:59.09 up to think it was you know, 00:37:59.10\00:38:00.37 we were taught meat, potato and vegetable, 00:38:00.38\00:38:02.11 that's what you should eat at 00:38:02.89\00:38:04.91 every meal, it was meat, potato and 00:38:04.92\00:38:06.12 a vegetable, that was a healthy balanced 00:38:06.13\00:38:08.02 meal and now I was seeing in these 00:38:08.03\00:38:10.18 materials that there wasn't the case that, 00:38:10.19\00:38:12.43 that there are healthier options and that, 00:38:12.44\00:38:16.24 they make a big difference on 00:38:16.25\00:38:18.57 over health, and so I started reading 00:38:18.58\00:38:21.22 this and I started grilling her on well, 00:38:21.23\00:38:22.99 what does the church teach about this 00:38:23.00\00:38:24.03 and what they teach about these other 00:38:24.04\00:38:25.62 things and I still hadn't made all the 00:38:25.63\00:38:28.72 changes yet that it was teaching, 00:38:28.73\00:38:30.41 but we started talking more and 00:38:30.42\00:38:33.79 she started sharing with me this scripture 00:38:33.80\00:38:36.22 and at that time I, somewhere around 00:38:36.23\00:38:42.05 there I decided but a year after 00:38:42.06\00:38:43.87 sort of being introduce this. She challenged 00:38:43.88\00:38:47.60 me to the CHIP approach and I was 00:38:47.61\00:38:52.38 kind of hypoglycemic at this point, and 00:38:52.39\00:38:54.63 my sugar levels were up and down all the time 00:38:54.64\00:38:56.90 and my energy was up and down. 00:38:56.91\00:39:00.54 And she said, try the CHIP program and 00:39:01.74\00:39:05.18 I am like I don't know it's I mean it's 00:39:05.19\00:39:07.40 looking good, but can you really do this, 00:39:07.41\00:39:12.23 that was my thinking, is it really 00:39:12.24\00:39:14.38 possible and she said, well, try it 00:39:14.39\00:39:18.08 for two weeks and tell me 00:39:18.09\00:39:19.10 what you think. And I thought alright, 00:39:19.11\00:39:21.57 two weeks I can prove that I'm wrong, 00:39:21.58\00:39:23.22 I can go back to life. That was literally 00:39:23.23\00:39:24.87 what went through my mind and so 00:39:24.88\00:39:32.02 I tried it and I said, alright, I'm gonna 00:39:32.03\00:39:33.67 try, but I am not gonna stop snacking. 00:39:33.68\00:39:34.91 See when you are in hypoglycemic, 00:39:34.92\00:39:35.96 they tell you to snack, you need to snack 00:39:35.97\00:39:38.51 all the time to keep your energy up, 00:39:38.52\00:39:40.00 but I said, I will try, but I am not gonna 00:39:40.01\00:39:42.46 stop snacking. But within a week 00:39:42.47\00:39:44.87 I had stopped snacking and I didn't 00:39:44.88\00:39:46.71 even realize it. And my energy was more 00:39:46.72\00:39:50.62 stable through the whole day then 00:39:50.63\00:39:52.36 I had ever experienced. My body was 00:39:52.37\00:39:54.44 functioning so much better than ever 00:39:54.45\00:39:56.60 before and I felt amazing well, 00:39:56.61\00:39:59.09 I can think clear and I was sold 00:39:59.10\00:40:01.85 and I have never gone back since 00:40:01.86\00:40:02.83 then and you know the two week challenge 00:40:02.84\00:40:05.29 turned into six years, six years or so 00:40:05.30\00:40:08.38 since that and the program just 00:40:08.39\00:40:12.85 made such a difference for me, 00:40:12.86\00:40:14.00 eating this way, it made such a 00:40:15.11\00:40:16.35 difference for me. And so that started 00:40:16.36\00:40:20.11 me getting interested well, what else does 00:40:20.12\00:40:22.66 the Bible teach, because she showed me 00:40:22.67\00:40:24.93 this health teachings from the Bible 00:40:24.94\00:40:27.06 and said, you know this came from God. 00:40:27.07\00:40:30.16 He is the one who develop this. 00:40:30.17\00:40:32.57 And when I read this scriptures I 00:40:33.30\00:40:37.31 was so impressed that this was in there, 00:40:37.32\00:40:41.46 a book written two thousands years before 00:40:41.47\00:40:44.16 the science could ever prove it, 00:40:44.17\00:40:45.54 described this it's the optimal way 00:40:45.55\00:40:48.43 to eat, and that to me was divine 00:40:48.44\00:40:50.90 inspiration and that set the Bible apart 00:40:50.91\00:40:53.86 in my mind from a lot of other holy books 00:40:53.87\00:40:56.94 out there and a lot of either teaching, 00:40:56.95\00:40:58.93 even though I had experienced you 00:40:58.94\00:41:01.55 know a lot of those other culture and 00:41:01.62\00:41:03.07 religions and nice people in them. 00:41:03.08\00:41:05.82 This to me said, there was something 00:41:06.76\00:41:08.85 here in Christianity, in the Bible and I 00:41:08.86\00:41:12.83 wanted to know what else the Bible teaches. 00:41:12.84\00:41:14.31 It's very, very interesting isn't it? 00:41:14.32\00:41:15.74 Yeah, it is. She finds biblical principles. 00:41:15.75\00:41:19.17 Her mother draws her attention to those, 00:41:19.18\00:41:23.17 then at the same time she looks 00:41:23.18\00:41:24.97 at these CHIP principles which are build 00:41:24.98\00:41:27.38 really on scientific principles, but 00:41:27.39\00:41:31.37 they also mesh very well with the biblical 00:41:31.38\00:41:33.31 content and all of a sudden the Bible 00:41:33.32\00:41:35.08 becomes a book that is validated in your 00:41:35.09\00:41:37.99 scientific thinking mind, isn't it? Yeah, 00:41:38.00\00:41:40.05 it was very, very validated and they said, 00:41:40.06\00:41:44.25 scientific thinking mind and that's what 00:41:44.26\00:41:46.08 I was. I, I'm an analyst and I'm very science 00:41:46.09\00:41:50.73 driven, very focused on numbers and 00:41:50.74\00:41:53.73 data or what does the data say and 00:41:53.74\00:41:55.95 then if I apply it does it actually work 00:41:55.96\00:41:58.71 and what was impressive here was 00:41:58.72\00:42:01.08 that the number is validated and when 00:42:01.09\00:42:03.20 I applied it, it actually worked. And 00:42:03.21\00:42:05.48 that said, there is something here 00:42:05.49\00:42:08.69 that's different and that's powerful 00:42:08.70\00:42:11.48 and it's effective. So now you went deeper. 00:42:11.49\00:42:13.24 Right. What did you do? Well, after 00:42:13.25\00:42:16.78 that I actually started praying to God 00:42:16.79\00:42:20.49 about whether or not the Sabbath Day 00:42:20.50\00:42:23.32 was important to him. And we had been 00:42:23.33\00:42:26.85 talking for a while now she was very 00:42:26.86\00:42:28.83 committed to Sabbath continually and I 00:42:28.84\00:42:32.22 at first I was like this is just too weird 00:42:32.23\00:42:35.14 like why would one day the any different 00:42:35.15\00:42:38.31 then the other, why does it matter 00:42:38.32\00:42:40.14 and you know really Saturday, everyone 00:42:40.15\00:42:43.71 was going to church on Sunday 00:42:43.72\00:42:44.71 and what's the difference and I started 00:42:44.72\00:42:48.50 praying, God if you, I know you there, 00:42:48.51\00:42:51.62 I feel you're in my life, I wasn't 00:42:51.63\00:42:53.34 really read in the Bible yet but 00:42:53.35\00:42:54.39 I know you are there. If this is important 00:42:54.40\00:42:57.73 to you, you need to show me. Oh, 00:42:57.74\00:43:00.27 dangerous prayer. You need to make it 00:43:00.28\00:43:01.75 personal to me. Yeah, yeah, yeah, 00:43:01.76\00:43:03.30 you asked that prayer He is on the line. 00:43:03.31\00:43:04.42 He was, he was, so this car I went 00:43:04.43\00:43:09.35 back to get, it was very old, rusty 00:43:09.36\00:43:17.25 and it was in rough shape and I prayed 00:43:17.26\00:43:21.74 that God would just keep that car 00:43:21.75\00:43:23.35 running until I got it back home. 00:43:23.36\00:43:26.11 I was planning on moving to California 00:43:26.12\00:43:27.98 after graduation I said, I just need you 00:43:27.99\00:43:29.81 to get this car through my college 00:43:29.82\00:43:32.67 education, till it gets back to Illinois 00:43:32.68\00:43:34.75 and when I go to California I will get 00:43:34.76\00:43:36.30 a new one. Isn't that interesting? 00:43:36.31\00:43:37.72 A scientific analytical mind. Yes. And all of 00:43:37.73\00:43:40.89 a sudden there is, the faith is beginning 00:43:40.90\00:43:44.54 to sprout, right, she talks to God 00:43:44.55\00:43:46.80 like he is some kind of friend. Yeah. 00:43:46.81\00:43:49.78 That is there right. Yeah. Interesting 00:43:49.79\00:43:51.91 development. Yeah, you're developing a 00:43:51.92\00:43:54.61 relationship almost under your own radar, 00:43:54.62\00:43:57.25 you know, yes, yeah, this thing is growing 00:43:57.26\00:43:59.19 almost unbeknownst you, because you're 00:43:59.20\00:44:01.32 focusing on okay this works, this works, 00:44:01.33\00:44:02.82 this works, but in the under girding 00:44:02.83\00:44:05.22 all of this is this little God consciousness 00:44:05.23\00:44:07.04 that's beginning to formulated in your 00:44:07.05\00:44:08.99 mind and in your life. Yup, and so I prayed 00:44:09.00\00:44:11.66 that He would keep that car running 00:44:11.67\00:44:12.82 until I got it back to home, but when 00:44:12.83\00:44:17.50 I prayed this prayer for Him to prove 00:44:17.51\00:44:19.45 to me the Sabbath that it was important. 00:44:19.46\00:44:22.67 He just like He trumped that other prayer 00:44:24.42\00:44:28.66 with this one, and anytime I wanted go 00:44:28.67\00:44:32.88 out on Sabbath to go shopping, 00:44:32.89\00:44:34.50 to go to a movie, to go to school 00:44:34.51\00:44:37.91 and work, anything I wanted to do, 00:44:37.92\00:44:40.88 anytime I wanted to do something on Sabbath 00:44:40.89\00:44:43.22 that wasn't really keeing the Sabboth. 00:44:43.23\00:44:45.20 The car would stop working. But the rest 00:44:45.21\00:44:49.77 of the week it was fine and if I 00:44:49.78\00:44:53.32 was doing something on Sabbath 00:44:53.33\00:44:54.47 like just go to a friend's house 00:44:54.48\00:44:55.91 to spend some time with them the 00:44:55.92\00:44:59.00 car would work, but if I wanted to go 00:44:59.01\00:45:00.93 to the store it would break down, 00:45:00.94\00:45:02.73 wow! And, so is this only once or twice. 00:45:02.74\00:45:06.55 No, this was over the course of a 00:45:06.56\00:45:08.71 whole year. Well, this was consistent 00:45:08.72\00:45:11.13 that every time I would want to do 00:45:11.14\00:45:14.83 something on Sabbath, Friday night 00:45:14.84\00:45:16.26 or Saturday, go to the store, go out to 00:45:16.27\00:45:20.16 a movie, the car would flood out 00:45:20.17\00:45:22.83 and it wouldn't work. A Sabbath event, 00:45:22.84\00:45:25.41 praise the Lord. Well, I took it to the shop. 00:45:25.42\00:45:28.98 I took the car to the shop and it 00:45:30.43\00:45:33.40 had this gas smell and after sometime 00:45:33.41\00:45:36.54 I took it to the shop to find out 00:45:36.55\00:45:37.94 what was wrong and the guy 00:45:37.95\00:45:41.28 at the shop said, I don't even know 00:45:41.29\00:45:43.03 how your car is running. He said, how 00:45:43.04\00:45:45.99 about my old gas tank which was rusted 00:45:46.00\00:45:48.52 horribly and these two pipes and 00:45:48.53\00:45:50.54 he said, you see these two pipes coming out, 00:45:50.55\00:45:51.82 you see this one it's broken off. He said, 00:45:51.83\00:45:55.13 your car shouldn't even be running. 00:45:55.14\00:45:56.52 I don't know how it's still running, but it 00:45:56.53\00:46:00.25 has been but this is why you have 00:46:00.26\00:46:01.37 this gas smell. You replace the tank 00:46:01.38\00:46:03.47 and you know that was that, 00:46:03.48\00:46:05.28 but God blessed that car to 00:46:05.29\00:46:08.23 keep running. Amen. Except on the Sabbath 00:46:08.24\00:46:11.06 after I prayed for Him to reveal 00:46:11.07\00:46:13.44 the importance of Sabbath. He used that 00:46:13.45\00:46:16.59 to show me. I mean if that would 00:46:16.60\00:46:19.14 have happened once you would think 00:46:19.15\00:46:20.80 it's a coincidence right. It was 00:46:20.81\00:46:23.03 scientifically, analytically oriented 00:46:23.04\00:46:24.78 mind and if he finds it to happen 00:46:24.79\00:46:26.11 over and over and over again and 00:46:26.12\00:46:27.75 all of a sudden there was a pattern 00:46:27.76\00:46:28.96 here right, so how would you interpret 00:46:28.97\00:46:31.03 this, right. It was clear to me 00:46:31.04\00:46:32.92 what it was about and I started committing 00:46:32.93\00:46:36.36 to keeping the Sabbath, before I even 00:46:36.37\00:46:38.98 started going to church. Wow! 00:46:38.99\00:46:40.25 Are you filtering any of this information 00:46:40.26\00:46:42.04 back to your mom, is she aware 00:46:42.05\00:46:43.54 of these thing that are going 00:46:43.55\00:46:44.63 on in your life? You know I think 00:46:44.64\00:46:45.83 we were talking more at this point. 00:46:45.84\00:46:47.53 I wasn't sharing every detail with her 00:46:47.54\00:46:50.73 yet but I was testing it out with you 00:46:50.74\00:46:55.23 know with God and it was just 00:46:55.24\00:46:56.73 mostly between Him and I. Okay. This 00:46:56.74\00:46:58.21 was about my relationship to Him, 00:46:58.22\00:47:00.53 not hers and so I was interested and 00:47:00.54\00:47:04.27 I was gaining interest. And when I moved 00:47:04.28\00:47:05.98 to California He blessed me I mean 00:47:05.99\00:47:10.20 there were so many miracles I can 00:47:10.21\00:47:11.43 tell you about how He has worked 00:47:11.44\00:47:12.89 in my life and how He has provided 00:47:12.90\00:47:14.47 one step of the way through challenges 00:47:14.48\00:47:16.85 and I know we don't have all day 00:47:16.86\00:47:18.75 but He gave me a place to live 00:47:18.76\00:47:21.54 with some amazing Christian roommates 00:47:21.55\00:47:23.54 who I still live with today and one 00:47:23.55\00:47:27.60 of them introduced me to church, 00:47:27.61\00:47:30.47 to going to church. And that kind 00:47:30.48\00:47:34.27 of broke down a lot my barriers. 00:47:34.28\00:47:35.73 I had a lot of walls up still 00:47:35.74\00:47:37.25 about going to church and she introduced 00:47:37.26\00:47:40.04 me to very young adults oriented 00:47:40.05\00:47:42.21 contemporaries service and it was 00:47:42.22\00:47:44.01 what I used to, it especially coming 00:47:44.02\00:47:46.29 out of theater world, is very comfortable, 00:47:46.30\00:47:48.18 but after a month or two I just 00:47:48.19\00:47:50.37 felt like it wasn't challenging me 00:47:50.38\00:47:52.39 in the world, it wasn't helping me grow 00:47:52.40\00:47:55.53 and that's when I stared looking for 00:47:55.54\00:47:56.83 Adventist churches, because I said, 00:47:56.84\00:47:58.31 you know that's what God has really 00:47:58.32\00:47:59.68 touch me through the most at this point. 00:47:59.69\00:48:02.05 And so I started going around the churches 00:48:02.06\00:48:05.55 and after that fall I felt God call me 00:48:05.56\00:48:12.51 to a church in Alhambra. Now I would live up 00:48:12.52\00:48:16.95 at near studio city in California and Alhambra 00:48:16.96\00:48:19.80 was not close to me. And my only connection 00:48:19.81\00:48:23.16 with Alhambra was a guy that I had 00:48:23.17\00:48:25.93 kind of dated who wasn't even a believer 00:48:25.94\00:48:27.88 and I thought why would God call me 00:48:27.89\00:48:29.46 to a church where he is and I didn't 00:48:29.47\00:48:32.63 want to go there because the relationship 00:48:32.64\00:48:35.40 didn't workout, and I didn't want to go 00:48:35.41\00:48:37.68 and have that association. So I felt 00:48:37.69\00:48:42.22 this call but I was resisting it, and then I 00:48:42.23\00:48:45.98 went to a young adult New Year's gathering 00:48:45.99\00:48:48.78 at another church and I talked 00:48:48.79\00:48:52.41 with one of the girls there, and she asked 00:48:52.42\00:48:54.71 me what I was looking for in churches 00:48:54.72\00:48:56.02 and I wanted a really good Pastor 00:48:56.03\00:48:57.30 and you know I need, I want 00:48:57.31\00:48:59.39 someone who can really teach me 00:48:59.40\00:49:00.58 what the Bible teaches. And she said, 00:49:00.59\00:49:04.33 I totally understand she said, I know just the 00:49:04.34\00:49:06.11 church you need to go to and I know 00:49:06.12\00:49:08.03 just the Pastor you need to hear and 00:49:08.04\00:49:10.27 she preaches at the church at Alhambra. 00:49:10.28\00:49:13.21 And I thought she first off that 00:49:14.19\00:49:16.82 was weird me, well this is Pastor Elizabeth 00:49:16.83\00:49:19.43 Tabot who was on voice of prophecy 00:49:19.44\00:49:21.37 now and she was the head Pastor there 00:49:21.70\00:49:23.54 now and she was the at that time. 00:49:23.83\00:49:24.80 And that Alhambra I was sort of shocked, 00:49:24.81\00:49:28.53 because I had felt this call to a church 00:49:28.54\00:49:31.23 in Alhambra. Wow! And I went and the 00:49:31.24\00:49:36.04 sermons spoke right to me and broke down 00:49:36.05\00:49:39.25 every barrier that I had and about 3, 00:49:39.26\00:49:42.86 4 weeks after I was there, this girl from 00:49:42.87\00:49:46.09 my church in the fellowship hall and 00:49:46.10\00:49:48.46 walking by, she reached out to me 00:49:48.47\00:49:50.12 and said, Wendy, Wendy come here, I'm like, 00:49:50.13\00:49:52.40 hey, I don't even know you but you 00:49:53.58\00:49:55.53 know me. And she said, I have to tell 00:49:55.54\00:49:58.04 you something, I have to tell you, 00:49:58.05\00:49:59.97 come here. I'm like what does this lady 00:49:59.98\00:50:02.75 have to tell me. I was very nervous 00:50:02.76\00:50:05.94 but like okay, God's working in my life, 00:50:05.95\00:50:08.64 I'm gonna come sit down. And she says, 00:50:08.65\00:50:12.00 you are an answer to my prayers, 00:50:12.01\00:50:15.71 and I'm like what do you mean? 00:50:17.46\00:50:18.43 I'm sitting there with this odd look, 00:50:18.44\00:50:20.44 I don't even know how to respond to 00:50:20.45\00:50:21.84 that, I'm just new to the church. 00:50:21.85\00:50:22.95 How can I be a answer to somebody's prayers? 00:50:22.96\00:50:25.20 She said, we've been praying for somebody 00:50:25.21\00:50:27.13 to do the health message here. 00:50:27.14\00:50:28.52 She said, I have been praying since 00:50:28.53\00:50:29.69 last fall for someone to do the prayer, 00:50:29.70\00:50:31.76 the health message here. And I knew 00:50:31.77\00:50:33.88 in that moment that she was telling me 00:50:33.89\00:50:35.88 the truth because that was exactly 00:50:35.89\00:50:37.50 when I felt called to that church, 00:50:37.51\00:50:39.97 and so God at this point, was 00:50:39.98\00:50:45.28 very real to me. There was no question 00:50:45.29\00:50:47.11 that He hears prayers and that He answers 00:50:47.12\00:50:49.21 prayers and that He really is there. 00:50:49.22\00:50:51.56 This book is not just the book about 00:50:51.57\00:50:54.43 you know nothing. There really is a higher 00:50:54.44\00:50:58.21 power here because there is no possible 00:50:58.22\00:51:00.50 way that this lady could have 00:51:00.51\00:51:03.81 known that I felt called to this church 00:51:03.82\00:51:05.88 at the same time she was praying. 00:51:05.89\00:51:07.12 Wow! Now I was planning on leading 00:51:07.13\00:51:09.37 a health ministry at this point. 00:51:09.38\00:51:11.46 I wasn't, I didn't want my membership 00:51:11.47\00:51:13.62 with the church. I didn't want anything 00:51:13.63\00:51:15.79 you know I wasn't ready for that. 00:51:15.80\00:51:17.96 Well, you're becoming a tough nut yeah. 00:51:17.97\00:51:19.69 I was very resisted, very resisted. 00:51:19.70\00:51:24.09 But God is, He works hard, He knows 00:51:24.10\00:51:27.22 what we need, but I went to the CHIP 00:51:27.23\00:51:28.98 summit the following fall. That's a national 00:51:28.99\00:51:31.86 conference where we train CHIP people 00:51:31.87\00:51:34.47 and you came to that CHIP conference right. 00:51:34.48\00:51:37.32 Yup. You were certified as a trainer and 00:51:37.33\00:51:40.22 you actually assumed responsibilities in that 00:51:40.23\00:51:43.29 church as the health ministries director 00:51:43.30\00:51:46.78 and you're opting to offer the CHIP program, 00:51:46.79\00:51:49.89 is that right? Well, what happened? 00:51:49.90\00:51:51.48 I actually went to the summit, because 00:51:51.49\00:51:55.01 I kind of wanted to debunk this church 00:51:55.02\00:51:58.95 in this CHIP program. I was still a 00:51:58.96\00:52:01.28 skeptic and, so you're still kind of 00:52:01.29\00:52:03.10 pulled a pin from under. She was going 00:52:03.11\00:52:05.73 to the summit and I thought I got 00:52:05.74\00:52:09.17 to see what's behind this curtain 00:52:09.18\00:52:10.69 because what in front of the curtain 00:52:10.70\00:52:12.86 looks great but once that curtain opens, 00:52:12.87\00:52:14.78 once I get behind this scenes, 00:52:14.79\00:52:16.54 what are they really teaching their people? 00:52:16.55\00:52:19.36 It's like mother like daughter, isn't it? 00:52:19.37\00:52:21.80 Yeah, very much. You had the same skeptical 00:52:21.81\00:52:24.43 mind too. Right. Yes, yes. Very analytical, 00:52:24.44\00:52:26.69 there must be something there, 00:52:26.70\00:52:28.43 so now you're looking behind the curtain, 00:52:28.44\00:52:30.81 what happens? So I came expecting 00:52:30.82\00:52:34.75 to see them teaching their directors 00:52:34.76\00:52:37.14 to be manipulative and you know, 00:52:37.15\00:52:39.47 these kinds of things and they were 00:52:39.48\00:52:42.13 gonna be all rich and you know all about 00:52:42.14\00:52:45.97 that and just this was just another 00:52:45.98\00:52:47.72 greedy way to get money that was 00:52:47.73\00:52:49.20 basically what I thought and when 00:52:49.21\00:52:51.19 I went I was just blown away because 00:52:51.20\00:52:54.68 the people were so real, so down to earth. 00:52:54.69\00:52:59.04 Praise God. So selfless. Praise the Lord. 00:52:59.05\00:53:02.31 In their work and they did it because 00:53:02.32\00:53:05.04 they believed in it, and it was just so 00:53:05.05\00:53:10.12 amazing to meet people who really 00:53:10.13\00:53:12.55 genuinely cared and not just 2 or 3 00:53:12.56\00:53:16.25 or 5 or 10. There was 200, 300 people there 00:53:16.26\00:53:19.99 who all had this same level of commitment 00:53:20.00\00:53:24.82 to this work and to a work that was 00:53:24.83\00:53:29.24 actually helping people, actually making 00:53:29.25\00:53:31.91 a difference in people's lives and I was 00:53:31.92\00:53:34.56 just so impressed by that, that. And saw 00:53:34.57\00:53:37.67 the results of some 20 scientific papers 00:53:37.68\00:53:41.26 published in medical journals that appeared 00:53:41.27\00:53:43.47 to a scientific analytical mind. 00:53:43.48\00:53:45.66 Exactly. I was amazed at the speakers over 00:53:45.67\00:53:47.48 there. I thought wow, a church who values 00:53:47.49\00:53:50.75 this kind of scientific research and who 00:53:50.76\00:53:53.76 is not of afraid of it. Because I had grown 00:53:53.77\00:53:55.46 up in the world where science and 00:53:55.47\00:53:56.74 Christianity could not co-exist and when 00:53:56.75\00:54:00.07 they did, things really didn't line up. 00:54:00.08\00:54:03.39 People were trying to put them in but 00:54:03.40\00:54:05.92 their logic wasn't there and I'm very logic 00:54:05.93\00:54:10.42 oriented, it's just that I can't, 00:54:10.43\00:54:12.20 I can't do logical things and. 00:54:12.21\00:54:13.95 It was matching up. Here it matched, 00:54:13.96\00:54:16.69 it matched up, everything came together 00:54:16.70\00:54:18.70 and the two just coincided and there was 00:54:18.71\00:54:23.54 compassion in it as well. There was a care 00:54:23.55\00:54:26.16 for people. Wendy, our time is slipping by, 00:54:26.17\00:54:27.35 we got to move you a long a little 00:54:27.36\00:54:28.55 bit because obviously it all came together 00:54:28.56\00:54:33.02 for you. Science and faith meshed and you 00:54:33.03\00:54:36.48 became a member of the Adventist Church 00:54:36.49\00:54:38.39 and now you're a CHIP leader. Correct. 00:54:38.40\00:54:40.30 So this is real and it works.
