than safely having fun.

because, you know,
we know the word fun

is not something
mentioned in the Bible,

yet, there's lots of words

that are not
mentioned in the Bible

but the principles are there.

And when somebody
thinks of safely having fun,

how we understood
safely having fun.

We were trying to, you know,
I believe that it's important

that they understand

to our own experiences,

up in hip-hop culture,

there were some
things that we did understand

as far as safely having fun.

So what would you
say in your understanding

perspective of hip-hop culture

constitutes safely having fun?

I mean, I'm gonna just only
use my experience pretty much.

I think a lot of these
things what we've been finding

is that the
statements are very veiled.

Meaning, they're good
statements on the surface

but if you really
do some investigation

probe a little bit,

you'll find out that
it's kind of loose, you know,

when you talk about having fun,

that was the idea of having fun.

get-togethers in the house

obviously drinking, smoking,

form of having fun,"

goes down at those things,

they did put forth an effort

to kind of help us understand

a little bit
better safely having fun

as I think about it.

An example,
KRS-One, stop the violence.

You know, he was
right there in the front,

brought a whole
bunch of rappers together

when they talked
about self-destruction.

And everybody
was coming together,

talking about the
importance of nonviolence.

So I would definitely think that

when they think
of safely having fun,

it's in these
gatherings like you said,

concerts, house
parties or whatever it may be

together without violence.

were some hip-hop artists

that would come out and say,

"Hey, listen, you got
to practice safe sex."

Or then they would promote,

you know, the usage of condoms
or some other type of thing

that could be used to make sure

that someone does
not catch a disease

or, of course,
impregnate someone at,

you know, at a young
age or what have you.

So again, safely
having fun might be,

not that you stop fornication,

but more so that
you just practice it

without suffering the disease.

that concept is quite worldly.

people think it's okay.

call themselves Christians

definitely practice fornication

That has to be
addressed but we will,

the thought leaders

and do a lot of these things

"Sure, you can go."

And then my
friends came to pick me up

and all of a sudden,
they changed their minds.

like, "Oh, you can't go."

calling my friends and say,

But then I called
them back and said,

front of the house at 12,

And I was ready
to do some dirty work

and I was ready to
literally sneak out the house.

And for some reason,

Mom and Dad
stayed up late that night

all the way till 1, 2
o'clock in the morning.

And I had to call
my friends and say,

Yeah. So they went to the party.

Following day comes along
and when I went to see them,

got literally shot

and it was just a
horrible bloody night."

And I'm looking back at that now

and I'm saying, "Well, thank God

that He was protecting me.

He, you know, He allowed
circumstances to take place

to spare my life

because the Lord knew
that even though I was living

absolutely rebellious lifestyle,

one day this hardheaded
boy is going to be my servant.

for that. I'm thankful.

And that reminds
me of a similar story.

I got a couple actually,

but one in
particular of those instances.

After I started,
you know, researching

and studying
religion and things,

out on the street

and still heavily in
hip-hop, there was a party.

And you know, it was really,

you know, like one of my friends

invited us to the party,

wasn't too sure about
it but we came anyway.

And when we got there,

was real, you know, dead.

It was kind of, you
know, we were just like,

"Well, we can go sit at home.

This is not really a party."

So we want to go have some fun,

we want to leave.

And I'm telling my friend.

and confronted my friend.

a little argument

to confront my friend,

And the brother pulled a gun,

in the middle of the party.

And the owner or
somebody that was close,

you know, it was a house party

and so somebody stepped in

and say, "Hey, what's going on?"

And he just started firing.

And you know, guy got shot.

People got, you know, some
straight bullets and all that.

But if I was still there,

and confronting my friend,

kind of things where God,

a party, no, it's not,

the whole motivation,

we're just having fun.

Again that we talked
about that selfishness

and self-indulgence.

going through that transition,

that the lifestyle I was living

I didn't quite
understand Christian culture.

I wasn't a Christian

but I was going
in that direction.

And finally, when I
accepted the gospel,

I still kind of
held on to the street

because I met
people in the church

that would live in the
whole hip-hop street life.

So I still kind of that,
you know, dabbled with it.

And so I want to tell
that story a little later on,

talk about safely having fun

principles that are there

that guidelines
that the Bible gives.

that it gives for recreation,

for things that, you know,
leisure activity if you will.

So what are some
of the principles

discussing to safely having fun?

even when I started to embrace,

about the violence
