Hello, I'm Lance. 00:00:28.66\00:00:29.99 And I'm Dwayne, 00:00:30.03\00:00:31.36 and welcome to another episode of TKS, 00:00:31.39\00:00:33.73 A True Knowledge of Self, 00:00:33.76\00:00:35.36 where we get to know ourselves from a biblical perspective. 00:00:35.40\00:00:38.87 We were privileged to go through the Word of God 00:00:38.90\00:00:41.00 and we were able to see that 00:00:41.04\00:00:43.24 as the Lord was revealing unto us His pillars, 00:00:43.27\00:00:46.04 as He set them up in the scripture, 00:00:46.07\00:00:47.51 especially through the Book of 2 Peter 1. 00:00:47.54\00:00:50.41 We were looking at it, especially in contrast 00:00:50.45\00:00:52.78 with what we see happening in culture today, 00:00:52.81\00:00:54.85 especially hip-hop culture. 00:00:54.88\00:00:56.48 And our goal was to see, 00:00:56.52\00:00:57.99 if there is a blending or if in fact, 00:00:58.02\00:00:59.89 there is a contrast, 00:00:59.92\00:01:01.26 and thus far we've been seeing a contrast 00:01:01.29\00:01:02.96 over and over and over again, 00:01:02.99\00:01:04.63 especially, as we look at the very foundational pillar 00:01:04.66\00:01:07.43 of the Christian faith, 00:01:07.46\00:01:08.80 but also looking at the foundational pillar 00:01:08.83\00:01:10.77 even of hip-hop culture, which is none other than love. 00:01:10.80\00:01:13.84 We were able to define it, 00:01:13.87\00:01:15.20 we were able to see from the Word of God, 00:01:15.24\00:01:17.27 how God defines love, and we saw the selflessness, 00:01:17.31\00:01:21.28 we saw self-sacrificing of one's self, 00:01:21.31\00:01:24.15 we saw the importance of consistent love 00:01:24.18\00:01:27.78 even towards those, who would be named our enemies, 00:01:27.82\00:01:30.59 and we looked at that in the context of the cross. 00:01:30.62\00:01:33.12 We were able to look at the cross of Calvary 00:01:33.15\00:01:35.49 as a means by which God was seeking to bridge the gap 00:01:35.52\00:01:39.03 that was made as a result of sin 00:01:39.06\00:01:40.90 and bringing humanity back in harmony with Himself. 00:01:40.93\00:01:43.93 And so it is that when we look at this concept of love, 00:01:43.97\00:01:46.74 we saw that it was quite different 00:01:46.77\00:01:48.87 from what we see generally 00:01:48.90\00:01:50.91 taught throughout hip-hop culture, 00:01:50.94\00:01:52.57 as the love is not clearly defined 00:01:52.61\00:01:55.18 neither does it have true steadfastness if you will. 00:01:55.21\00:01:59.65 It seems as if it's very wishy-washy or up and down, 00:01:59.68\00:02:02.32 or open for private interpretation 00:02:02.35\00:02:04.49 and as a result of that, 00:02:04.52\00:02:05.99 it does not have the stick-to-itiveness 00:02:06.02\00:02:07.42 that is needed in a society, 00:02:07.46\00:02:09.19 where almost everything is in disarray. 00:02:09.22\00:02:11.69 So as a result of this, we started to dig deeper 00:02:11.73\00:02:14.53 and we looked at not only the love principle 00:02:14.56\00:02:18.10 but today, we're gonna talk about the second principle 00:02:18.13\00:02:20.94 that was mentioned, which was peace. 00:02:20.97\00:02:23.57 Peace is also recognized as a cornerstone 00:02:23.61\00:02:26.81 when it comes to hip-hop culture, 00:02:26.84\00:02:28.58 and there are many things that are connected 00:02:28.61\00:02:30.98 with the concept of peace, 00:02:31.01\00:02:32.68 as it relates to social justice. 00:02:32.71\00:02:35.48 And of course, community is growing 00:02:35.52\00:02:38.19 and becoming stronger and better, 00:02:38.22\00:02:39.75 even in the midst of different ethnicities. 00:02:39.79\00:02:42.52 And it's because of this that, 00:02:42.56\00:02:44.06 we know peace is something very, very necessary. 00:02:44.09\00:02:46.56 God is certainly a God of peace 00:02:46.59\00:02:48.46 and we should be a people of peace, 00:02:48.50\00:02:50.03 if we're seeking to reflect His character. 00:02:50.07\00:02:52.23 But, Lance, as we were, you know, 00:02:52.27\00:02:53.84 looking at some of these concepts of peace 00:02:53.87\00:02:55.74 and really seeing the need for it, 00:02:55.77\00:02:57.84 it also dawned on my mind 00:02:57.87\00:02:59.51 that there's a need once again for definition, 00:02:59.54\00:03:02.98 delineation, qualifying, 00:03:03.01\00:03:05.11 because peace is something 00:03:05.15\00:03:06.48 that also is very much an abused term just like, 00:03:06.51\00:03:10.79 you know, love unfortunately. 00:03:10.82\00:03:13.29 There are many things that are being done 00:03:13.32\00:03:14.66 in the name of peace today, 00:03:14.69\00:03:16.02 that if we were to compare it 00:03:16.06\00:03:17.43 especially to the biblical account, 00:03:17.46\00:03:18.96 we would see that it's actually contradictory. 00:03:18.99\00:03:21.36 Even to the point that prophetically, 00:03:21.40\00:03:23.60 the Bible shows us that there are efforts 00:03:23.63\00:03:27.14 that's gonna be made in the name of peace, 00:03:27.17\00:03:29.44 but in fact, it's gonna lead to destruction. 00:03:29.47\00:03:31.31 And it's funny because you would think to yourself, 00:03:31.34\00:03:33.04 peace is the clear opposite of destruction. 00:03:33.07\00:03:35.51 But yet, the Bible actually shows 00:03:35.54\00:03:37.35 they're gonna be efforts made through a certain power, 00:03:37.38\00:03:40.18 which was referred to as the fourth beast power 00:03:40.22\00:03:42.65 in the Book of Daniel 8. 00:03:42.68\00:03:44.85 And it does bring out the fact 00:03:44.89\00:03:46.25 that peace is gonna be one of the very efforts 00:03:46.29\00:03:48.12 that it's going to use to cause destruction. 00:03:48.16\00:03:50.73 I'm gonna read it. 00:03:50.76\00:03:52.09 It's found in the Book of Daniel 8, 00:03:52.13\00:03:54.30 and we're gonna consider Daniel 8 and look at verse 23, 00:03:54.33\00:03:57.77 and again, it's talking about the fourth beast power 00:03:57.80\00:04:01.00 that came after the goat with the four horns 00:04:01.04\00:04:05.24 and then eventually a little horn came up. 00:04:05.27\00:04:07.18 And we know that in Daniel 8, it makes it clear 00:04:07.21\00:04:10.08 that the ram was none other than Medo-Persia 00:04:10.11\00:04:12.88 and that the goat was Greece. 00:04:12.91\00:04:16.05 But then the next kingdom that will come after that just, 00:04:16.08\00:04:18.49 you know, from basic history would be none other than Rome. 00:04:18.52\00:04:20.92 So let's talk about this fourth beast power, 00:04:20.96\00:04:22.32 it's really talking about the system of Rome. 00:04:22.36\00:04:24.36 And here's what it says, it says, 00:04:24.39\00:04:26.09 "And in the latter time of their kingdom, 00:04:26.13\00:04:28.33 when the transgressors are come to the full, 00:04:28.36\00:04:31.33 a king of fierce countenance, 00:04:31.37\00:04:34.07 and understanding dark sentences, 00:04:34.10\00:04:36.24 shall stand up. 00:04:36.27\00:04:37.61 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: 00:04:37.64\00:04:42.14 and he shall destroy wonderfully, 00:04:42.18\00:04:44.25 and shall prosper, and practice, 00:04:44.28\00:04:46.21 and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people." 00:04:46.25\00:04:49.82 Here is clearly a power, that is working against Christ 00:04:49.85\00:04:54.12 and not for Christ because it says, 00:04:54.16\00:04:55.96 that it's gonna do a destructive work 00:04:55.99\00:04:57.83 and it's gonna be against the holy people. 00:04:57.86\00:05:00.16 Yes. Then it says in verse 25. 00:05:00.20\00:05:02.60 "And through his policy also he shall cause craft 00:05:02.63\00:05:07.10 to prosper in his hand. 00:05:07.14\00:05:08.70 And he shall magnify himself in his heart, 00:05:08.74\00:05:11.67 and by peace shall destroy many: 00:05:11.71\00:05:15.48 he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes, 00:05:15.51\00:05:18.68 but he shall be broken without hand." 00:05:18.71\00:05:20.92 It is amazing to see that prophetically the Bible says, 00:05:20.95\00:05:23.95 that this beast power is gonna exercise 00:05:23.99\00:05:26.15 its power in such a way 00:05:26.19\00:05:27.52 that by peace, it's gonna destroy many. 00:05:27.56\00:05:30.76 This is the reason why peace has to be broken down 00:05:30.79\00:05:33.16 because when we think of peace, we don't think of destruction. 00:05:33.19\00:05:36.06 But the Bible even shows prophetically, 00:05:36.10\00:05:38.20 that there will be powers 00:05:38.23\00:05:39.70 that will work in the last days, 00:05:39.73\00:05:41.44 that's gonna use the instrument of peace, 00:05:41.47\00:05:43.94 but it's gonna be, it's gonna lead to destruction. 00:05:43.97\00:05:47.04 In fact, 1 Thessalonians 5 spells it out like this. 00:05:47.08\00:05:50.78 And this is why again, peace needs to be defined, 00:05:50.81\00:05:53.55 it needs to be delineated. 00:05:53.58\00:05:54.92 It needs to be very, very clear. 00:05:54.95\00:05:57.15 In 1 Thessalonians 5, it says in verses 1-3, 00:05:57.19\00:06:02.22 "But of the times and the seasons, Brethren, 00:06:02.26\00:06:04.49 ye have no need that I write unto you. 00:06:04.53\00:06:06.56 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord 00:06:06.59\00:06:09.23 so cometh as a thief in the night. 00:06:09.26\00:06:10.97 For when they shall say, peace and safety, 00:06:11.00\00:06:14.97 then sudden destruction cometh upon them, 00:06:15.00\00:06:18.01 as travail upon a woman with child, 00:06:18.04\00:06:20.58 and they shall not escape." 00:06:20.61\00:06:22.28 Well, here it is that when we look at this concept, 00:06:22.31\00:06:24.51 the Bible is making it emphatically clear 00:06:24.55\00:06:26.88 that peace is gonna be something, 00:06:26.92\00:06:28.68 that's gonna be used as an instrument for the devil 00:06:28.72\00:06:32.35 rather than for God. 00:06:32.39\00:06:34.22 And it's gonna work as a very deceptive power 00:06:34.26\00:06:36.52 to try to get individuals to buy into it, 00:06:36.56\00:06:38.69 but the Bible says, 00:06:38.73\00:06:40.06 beware when this false peace comes 00:06:40.10\00:06:42.03 because sudden destruction is gonna come. 00:06:42.06\00:06:43.97 It's because of this that we actually 00:06:44.00\00:06:45.87 need to define peace, we need to understand it 00:06:45.90\00:06:48.70 because it's not enough for somebody to just say, 00:06:48.74\00:06:50.84 "Hey, we believe in peace." Right. 00:06:50.87\00:06:52.37 Because, you know, the Bible student understands 00:06:52.41\00:06:54.98 what kind of peace. 00:06:55.01\00:06:56.34 I mean, what does your peace constitute 00:06:56.38\00:06:58.61 and how does it function? 00:06:58.65\00:07:00.05 And that's the way we can help arrive at, 00:07:00.08\00:07:01.92 you know, whether this thing is true or not. 00:07:01.95\00:07:03.99 So this is gonna be a good point 00:07:04.02\00:07:05.45 now to segue into a clip, that we need to take a look at 00:07:05.49\00:07:08.49 because we know that one of the cornerstones 00:07:08.52\00:07:11.59 of hip-hop culture is peace, 00:07:11.63\00:07:14.66 and they promote it very strongly. 00:07:14.70\00:07:16.20 And in and of itself, peace is beautiful, 00:07:16.23\00:07:17.90 it's wonderful 00:07:17.93\00:07:19.27 and it is the right thing to advocate. 00:07:19.30\00:07:20.64 And I'm thankful for those of sincere heart, 00:07:20.67\00:07:22.70 even in hip-hop culture 00:07:22.74\00:07:24.07 that are really trying to put forth piece. 00:07:24.11\00:07:26.24 But as we've been saying over and over and over again, 00:07:26.27\00:07:28.58 you can be sincere and you can be genuine, 00:07:28.61\00:07:30.78 but you can still be wrong. Right. 00:07:30.81\00:07:32.41 It's because of this that we have to test everything 00:07:32.45\00:07:34.92 by the Word of God. 00:07:34.95\00:07:36.28 So we're gonna go ahead and take a look at this clip, 00:07:36.32\00:07:38.09 where it's gonna talk a little bit about peace 00:07:38.12\00:07:40.29 from the perspective of hip-hop culture from again, 00:07:40.32\00:07:43.93 many of this thought leaders and then, we'll go ahead 00:07:43.96\00:07:46.29 and share some comments on it as we come back. 00:07:46.33\00:07:48.00 All right. All right. 00:07:48.03\00:07:49.36 So let's take a look. 00:07:49.40\00:07:50.97 I stand here before you a representative 00:07:51.00\00:07:54.84 of something we call hip-hop culture. 00:07:54.87\00:07:58.94 Words mean very little without definition. 00:07:58.97\00:08:02.01 We are here to discuss the definition of hip-hop. 00:08:02.04\00:08:06.92 Once we deal with the definition, 00:08:06.95\00:08:09.22 meaning, purpose, intention of hip-hop, 00:08:09.25\00:08:12.35 the words will change. 00:08:12.39\00:08:14.92 Since 1994, we've been having a meeting 00:08:14.96\00:08:19.33 about preservation of hip-hop as a culture. 00:08:19.36\00:08:22.60 This has been Harry Allen, 00:08:22.63\00:08:24.73 the Media Assassin held a discussion 00:08:24.77\00:08:28.27 at the chambers for an organization 00:08:28.30\00:08:30.81 called the Rhythm Cultural Institute. 00:08:30.84\00:08:32.97 At that meeting, 00:08:33.01\00:08:34.34 I decided to document the history of hip-hop. 00:08:34.38\00:08:38.75 I also begin to teach spiritual principles 00:08:38.78\00:08:42.72 through the language of hip-hop. 00:08:42.75\00:08:47.29 This then went on to the creation 00:08:47.32\00:08:49.29 of the Temple of Hip-Hop, 00:08:49.32\00:08:51.33 which is at first a society that preserves hip-hop. 00:08:51.36\00:08:56.67 So the Temple of Hip-Hop rose up 00:08:56.70\00:08:59.27 and collected 29 paragraphs 00:08:59.30\00:09:01.70 from various people in the industry 00:09:01.74\00:09:04.94 to create the hip-hop declaration of peace. 00:09:04.97\00:09:07.88 This is a document that advises hip-hop culture 00:09:07.91\00:09:12.18 on ways in which it can sustain peace 00:09:12.21\00:09:14.78 and join into the peace process. 00:09:14.82\00:09:17.89 We then went to the United Nations 00:09:17.92\00:09:20.49 and pretty much presented ourselves 00:09:20.52\00:09:22.72 before an organization called UNESCO, 00:09:22.76\00:09:26.29 the United Nations Educational Scientific 00:09:26.33\00:09:29.06 and Cultural Organization. 00:09:29.10\00:09:31.37 It is honor that the hip-hop generation 00:09:31.40\00:09:33.67 has joined us in this quest for peace in the world. 00:09:33.70\00:09:37.47 The hip-hop declaration of peace 00:09:37.51\00:09:40.54 is a informal document that we have put together. 00:09:40.58\00:09:46.48 And in this document it's the first step 00:09:46.51\00:09:50.09 to something legitimate and something real. 00:09:50.12\00:09:52.92 Now I'm gonna tell you, some of the things that I saw, 00:09:52.95\00:09:55.96 I have to say is also commendable 00:09:55.99\00:09:58.53 which is this, 00:09:58.56\00:09:59.89 "We know that there's a mixture in hip-hop culture there, 00:09:59.93\00:10:02.36 you know, as we mentioned in one previous episode, 00:10:02.40\00:10:05.17 there is the gangster rap and things of that nature, 00:10:05.20\00:10:07.90 which is certainly as even Afrika Bambaataa 00:10:07.94\00:10:10.74 equated it to evil. 00:10:10.77\00:10:12.21 I mean, you know, promoting, of course gangster lifestyle, 00:10:12.24\00:10:14.74 taking lives, glorifying guns, 00:10:14.78\00:10:16.58 and calling women, these derogatory terms. 00:10:16.61\00:10:18.95 Anybody with sense at least 00:10:18.98\00:10:20.32 should know that that is not good. 00:10:20.35\00:10:23.99 But there's also individuals like KRS-One 00:10:24.02\00:10:26.32 and many others Carmen and so on, 00:10:26.35\00:10:28.22 that are trying to promote a consciousness, 00:10:28.26\00:10:30.39 to try to help people see, 00:10:30.43\00:10:31.93 "Listen, there's a higher level of understanding, 00:10:31.96\00:10:34.30 there's a higher level of morality, 00:10:34.33\00:10:36.97 and we need to get up on that plane, 00:10:37.00\00:10:38.90 and this is why knowledge is essential." 00:10:38.93\00:10:40.64 This is ultimately a good virtue, 00:10:40.67\00:10:42.70 it is something that they are trying to do 00:10:42.74\00:10:45.04 and that is commendable but again, 00:10:45.07\00:10:47.71 the problem consistently keeps coming back to the same place, 00:10:47.74\00:10:51.28 which is who determines these things 00:10:51.31\00:10:53.68 that you're doing. 00:10:53.72\00:10:55.05 How do people access power that they can accomplish this? 00:10:55.08\00:10:58.49 Are you even a living example 00:10:58.52\00:11:00.39 that this has been demonstrated or accomplished, 00:11:00.42\00:11:02.49 what you're trying to promote so strongly, 00:11:02.52\00:11:04.33 not just on camera but off camera? 00:11:04.36\00:11:06.33 You know, there's a lot of question marks 00:11:06.36\00:11:07.70 that come along 00:11:07.73\00:11:09.06 when these type of things are put together. 00:11:09.10\00:11:10.43 So here it is that, you know, hip-hop culture has said, 00:11:10.47\00:11:12.97 "Hey, we are seeking to, you know, 00:11:13.00\00:11:16.71 put forth a declaration of peace," 00:11:16.74\00:11:18.91 and you know, try to push out something 00:11:18.94\00:11:21.14 that appears to be very, very good. 00:11:21.18\00:11:24.21 Now this is some of the things that I'm seeing 00:11:24.25\00:11:25.68 but I see a lot more, but let me pause on it. 00:11:25.71\00:11:27.68 What are some of your thoughts? 00:11:27.72\00:11:29.18 What did you get out of it seeing the video? 00:11:29.22\00:11:31.05 Yeah, I mean, similar things and also to add the fact that, 00:11:31.09\00:11:35.96 you know, we're looking at something that's, you know, 00:11:35.99\00:11:37.69 dated, I mean, it's back from 2001 00:11:37.73\00:11:41.20 because we noted, we notice in the clip 00:11:41.23\00:11:43.67 that there was a meeting between UNESCO 00:11:43.70\00:11:47.24 and this Temple of Hip-Hop, you know, representation. 00:11:47.27\00:11:51.67 Right. 00:11:51.71\00:11:53.04 And this is actually when the Temple of Hip-Hop 00:11:53.07\00:11:55.91 was established and as you heard 00:11:55.94\00:11:57.28 mentioned the Temple of Hip-Hop 00:11:57.31\00:11:59.28 is kind of the cultural front office, 00:11:59.31\00:12:03.75 if you will for the hip-hop culture. 00:12:03.79\00:12:06.52 And so, what we have to recognize is that, 00:12:06.55\00:12:11.19 the Temple of Hip hop, or hip-hop in general 00:12:11.23\00:12:13.83 is an officially recognized culture 00:12:13.86\00:12:15.56 by the United Nations. 00:12:15.60\00:12:17.13 So this is not just something again that, you know, 00:12:17.17\00:12:20.14 people talked about was just a fad back in the day. 00:12:20.17\00:12:22.10 That's right. 00:12:22.14\00:12:23.47 It's a recognized official culture 00:12:23.51\00:12:26.17 and on the global diplomatic landscape, 00:12:26.21\00:12:29.51 and so that's important, number one. 00:12:29.54\00:12:32.58 Number two, when we get back to this declaration aspect, 00:12:32.61\00:12:36.55 again there are commendable attributes to that. 00:12:36.58\00:12:41.56 It's not necessarily dishonorable 00:12:41.59\00:12:44.19 to do something like this. 00:12:44.23\00:12:45.69 However, we have to find out 00:12:45.73\00:12:48.63 and we're gonna look at these things 00:12:48.66\00:12:50.00 in a few moments, but we have to, 00:12:50.03\00:12:52.47 you know, acknowledge the fact that there is no human, 00:12:52.50\00:12:56.64 there are no human solutions to the problems of this world. 00:12:56.67\00:13:01.21 To sin problem, to the violence problem, 00:13:01.24\00:13:04.98 to the corruption problem. 00:13:05.01\00:13:06.88 You cannot simply issue a document 00:13:06.92\00:13:11.09 and then expect it to magically, 00:13:11.12\00:13:13.15 you know, transform the hearts and minds of the people 00:13:13.19\00:13:15.29 that read it if they do read it. 00:13:15.32\00:13:17.46 Right. 00:13:17.49\00:13:18.83 Whereas, what God offers 00:13:18.86\00:13:20.20 is something that has the actual power 00:13:20.23\00:13:23.80 to transform the hearts and minds of the people 00:13:23.83\00:13:25.90 that say, yes, to it, that accept it, that hear it, 00:13:25.93\00:13:28.74 that listens to it. 00:13:28.77\00:13:30.27 So that is a real interesting contrast, 00:13:30.31\00:13:33.64 again that we have to discuss further, 00:13:33.68\00:13:35.71 and really look at this declaration of peace. 00:13:35.74\00:13:38.51 The Bible's gonna bring out some important points, 00:13:38.55\00:13:40.18 but what are they saying? 00:13:40.22\00:13:41.55 What are they declaring? Right. 00:13:41.58\00:13:42.92 We're finally saying, you know what, 00:13:42.95\00:13:45.15 here's a definition, 00:13:45.19\00:13:46.65 here's an official document that says, 00:13:46.69\00:13:49.06 this is what we mean when we say peace, 00:13:49.09\00:13:52.09 when we say this, 00:13:52.13\00:13:53.46 this is a document to represent our culture. 00:13:53.50\00:13:55.86 Right. 00:13:55.90\00:13:57.23 So let's look at some principles 00:13:57.27\00:13:58.60 and what does this say 00:13:58.63\00:13:59.97 and I think we have to go from there. 00:14:00.00\00:14:01.47 Yeah, you know, I'm glad that we can assess this 00:14:01.50\00:14:04.91 because I'm scaling back, I'm looking back at my life, 00:14:04.94\00:14:07.64 I remember growing up and I remember, 00:14:07.68\00:14:09.31 that I had a really bad temper. 00:14:09.34\00:14:11.35 And I got into lots of fights, I did. 00:14:11.38\00:14:13.05 When growing up, I got into a lot of fights, in school 00:14:13.08\00:14:15.58 and, you know, my mother and father saw 00:14:15.62\00:14:18.22 that I had a bad temper. 00:14:18.25\00:14:19.59 And they were so scared about what 00:14:19.62\00:14:23.53 I could potentially become or do to somebody else. 00:14:23.56\00:14:27.10 That I remember one time, I was on the phone 00:14:27.13\00:14:29.36 and I was talking to somebody 00:14:29.40\00:14:30.73 and this is right there in front of my mother 00:14:30.77\00:14:32.70 and the person got me really upset. 00:14:32.73\00:14:34.07 So I remember telling them "What, what?" 00:14:34.10\00:14:36.40 And I said, "All right, 00:14:36.44\00:14:37.77 I'm coming by your house right now," 00:14:37.81\00:14:39.14 and then I hung up the phone. 00:14:39.17\00:14:40.51 So immediately my Mother's trying to stop me, 00:14:40.54\00:14:42.18 and she's like, "Pee, Pee," you know, calling my Father, 00:14:42.21\00:14:44.78 she called him Pee. 00:14:44.81\00:14:46.15 And she's like, "Stop Dwayne." 00:14:46.18\00:14:47.52 You know, and Dad is just like, 00:14:47.55\00:14:48.88 "Boy, you're not going anywhere." 00:14:48.92\00:14:50.25 And I had such a violent character 00:14:50.29\00:14:53.52 at that time. 00:14:53.56\00:14:54.89 I wasn't a troublemaker, I didn't start trouble 00:14:54.92\00:14:56.93 but if you got me mad enough, it could get to a level 00:14:56.96\00:14:59.19 where you just kind of lose your control. 00:14:59.23\00:15:01.46 So my Mother and Father, 00:15:01.50\00:15:03.16 because they also did not know of the power source, 00:15:03.20\00:15:06.17 they tried to handle it from a human standpoint. 00:15:06.20\00:15:08.74 And what they did was, they sent me to karate school. 00:15:08.77\00:15:11.51 Literally, they said, "That's it, 00:15:11.54\00:15:12.87 we're sending you to karate school." 00:15:12.91\00:15:14.34 And they're doing this like it's a punishment... 00:15:14.38\00:15:16.14 I'm looking at it like 00:15:16.18\00:15:17.51 this is the best privilege in the world, 00:15:17.55\00:15:18.88 I'm about to become Bruce Leroy. 00:15:18.91\00:15:20.42 So, you know, I'm absolutely excited. 00:15:20.45\00:15:22.55 So when I went to karate school, 00:15:22.58\00:15:25.22 I remember they presented... 00:15:25.25\00:15:27.16 I studied Shidokan, 00:15:27.19\00:15:28.69 which is the Japanese martial art. 00:15:28.72\00:15:30.33 And they had something called 00:15:30.36\00:15:32.03 the five principles of the Dojo, 00:15:32.06\00:15:34.33 you know, the school, the classroom, 00:15:34.36\00:15:35.73 the five principles of the Dojo. 00:15:35.76\00:15:38.07 Now watch this... Yeah. 00:15:38.10\00:15:39.43 Here are the five principles of the Dojo... 00:15:39.47\00:15:40.94 Yeah. 00:15:40.97\00:15:42.30 To seek perfection of character. 00:15:42.34\00:15:44.67 All right. Yes. To be sincere and honest. 00:15:44.71\00:15:47.74 To show strong spirit, to practice courtesy, 00:15:47.78\00:15:52.41 and to control bad temper. 00:15:52.45\00:15:54.45 All good. Yeah, all good. 00:15:54.48\00:15:56.79 And the problem was is that, when I went through school 00:15:56.82\00:15:59.39 and I excel tremendously, 00:15:59.42\00:16:01.12 I went from white belt to orange, to yellow, 00:16:01.16\00:16:03.53 to blue, to purple, then brown 00:16:03.56\00:16:05.26 and, you know, I'm just excelling, 00:16:05.29\00:16:06.70 going to karate tournaments and everything. 00:16:06.73\00:16:08.33 But I didn't change in that one bit. 00:16:08.36\00:16:10.23 What happened was I just had a little bit more knowledge 00:16:10.27\00:16:14.17 on how instead of taking you out 00:16:14.20\00:16:15.57 with five punches, 00:16:15.60\00:16:16.94 now I knew how to do it with one. 00:16:16.97\00:16:18.31 It didn't change my character, 00:16:18.34\00:16:20.34 it did not help me go from being a person 00:16:20.38\00:16:23.04 with uncontrolled temper 00:16:23.08\00:16:24.75 to now a very patient docile person. 00:16:24.78\00:16:26.82 All they did was just trick me 00:16:26.85\00:16:28.18 into thinking that I could control myself. 00:16:28.22\00:16:30.09 And I'm not an advocate of martial arts today. 00:16:30.12\00:16:31.85 I believe martial arts is very much associated 00:16:31.89\00:16:33.76 with spiritualism, and as a result of that, 00:16:33.79\00:16:35.59 I can't advocate it today. Right. 00:16:35.62\00:16:37.66 But I'm making a point in principle, 00:16:37.69\00:16:39.59 whether it be martial arts, whether it be hip-hop culture, 00:16:39.63\00:16:42.13 there are lots of declarations, 00:16:42.16\00:16:43.93 there are lots of principles of the organization, 00:16:43.97\00:16:47.30 that sound fantastic. 00:16:47.34\00:16:48.97 Seek perfection of character, be sincere and honest, 00:16:49.00\00:16:51.47 show strong spirit, practice courtesy, 00:16:51.51\00:16:53.31 control bad temper, 00:16:53.34\00:16:54.68 what parent doesn't want that for their child? 00:16:54.71\00:16:56.41 What person doesn't want that for themselves? 00:16:56.44\00:16:58.38 So these terms in and of themselves 00:16:58.41\00:17:00.02 sound fantastic, 00:17:00.05\00:17:01.48 but when you look carefully at these declarations, 00:17:01.52\00:17:04.22 there's one word that keeps coming up. 00:17:04.25\00:17:06.62 How? Yeah. 00:17:06.65\00:17:08.02 How? 00:17:08.06\00:17:09.39 All right, you're telling me a fantastic story, 00:17:09.42\00:17:11.39 the question is, how? 00:17:11.43\00:17:12.76 How does this get accomplished? 00:17:12.79\00:17:14.13 As an example, if we, you know, 00:17:14.16\00:17:16.06 we have the declaration of peace right here. 00:17:16.10\00:17:18.10 Yes. 00:17:18.13\00:17:19.47 And this is the declaration of peace 00:17:19.50\00:17:20.84 from the hip-hop culture. 00:17:20.87\00:17:22.20 And you'll see that there are things 00:17:22.24\00:17:23.64 that they are stating in here that sound fantastic 00:17:23.67\00:17:27.31 but the question is, how? 00:17:27.34\00:17:28.94 How do you define this? 00:17:28.98\00:17:30.31 You know, break it down, help me understand it. 00:17:30.35\00:17:32.41 So I'm just gonna go ahead and go through a few, 00:17:32.45\00:17:34.28 there's about 18, it's very long 00:17:34.32\00:17:36.12 and we can't go through all of them. 00:17:36.15\00:17:37.72 But it's just to bring home the point 00:17:37.75\00:17:39.32 of what we're talking about 00:17:39.35\00:17:40.69 and to help our viewers understand 00:17:40.72\00:17:42.59 how important it is to think 00:17:42.62\00:17:44.76 through these things that sound good. 00:17:44.79\00:17:46.70 There's lots of things that seem right 00:17:46.73\00:17:48.70 but they can have an adverse effect. 00:17:48.73\00:17:50.83 So as an example, 00:17:50.87\00:17:52.40 if I'm looking at these declarations here, 00:17:52.43\00:17:54.37 here's one declaration where it states 00:17:54.40\00:17:56.24 and they did say it was informal. 00:17:56.27\00:17:57.87 Informal. They made it clear. 00:17:57.91\00:17:59.24 They said, this is informal, you know, a first step, 00:17:59.27\00:18:02.74 so this very much may be modified, 00:18:02.78\00:18:05.01 but we're gonna take it for what it is right now. 00:18:05.05\00:18:06.95 And here's what it states, as an example, it says, 00:18:06.98\00:18:09.18 "Hip-hop culture respects the dignity 00:18:09.22\00:18:12.09 and sanctity of life 00:18:12.12\00:18:14.36 without discrimination or prejudice. 00:18:14.39\00:18:18.43 We shall consider our duty to protect..." 00:18:18.46\00:18:21.36 Yes, "We shall consider our duty 00:18:21.40\00:18:22.73 to protect the development of life, 00:18:22.76\00:18:24.77 over and before our individual free choice 00:18:24.80\00:18:27.84 to destroy it or seek to alter its natural development." 00:18:27.87\00:18:32.51 Now, what would be some thoughts 00:18:32.54\00:18:34.11 that would come to your mind as we consider this 00:18:34.14\00:18:36.88 because it sounds good. 00:18:36.91\00:18:38.55 I would imagine in society today, 00:18:38.58\00:18:40.05 a lot of people would say, 00:18:40.08\00:18:41.42 "Well, yeah, that sounds fantastic." 00:18:41.45\00:18:43.08 They might even give an amen. Yes. 00:18:43.12\00:18:44.65 So, you know, the question is, how would we assess 00:18:44.69\00:18:47.46 this one principle we're looking at? 00:18:47.49\00:18:49.29 I mean, really again back to the definitions. 00:18:49.32\00:18:51.53 So the idea of what are you saying 00:18:51.56\00:18:54.93 dignity or sanctity is, what are you saying, 00:18:54.96\00:18:58.53 you know, protecting the development of life. 00:18:58.57\00:19:02.60 And the key here is just to seek 00:19:02.64\00:19:08.14 to alter its natural development. 00:19:08.18\00:19:10.45 Yeah. 00:19:10.48\00:19:11.81 Well, what is natural development? 00:19:11.85\00:19:14.12 What does that look like? 00:19:14.15\00:19:15.48 That's a very important question, 00:19:15.52\00:19:16.85 let's make a practical example. Yeah. 00:19:16.89\00:19:18.22 We are living in a society today 00:19:18.25\00:19:21.06 where it has become, 00:19:21.09\00:19:24.73 I would dare to say popular to be homosexual. 00:19:24.76\00:19:28.46 Yep. 00:19:28.50\00:19:29.83 And it seems as if everybody who comes out of the closet 00:19:29.86\00:19:34.47 is being posted on the news and, you know, 00:19:34.50\00:19:37.14 it's just a totally 00:19:37.17\00:19:38.61 celebratory type of thing happening right now. 00:19:38.64\00:19:40.28 Yeah. 00:19:40.31\00:19:41.64 The Christian position is that this is wrong. 00:19:41.68\00:19:45.38 This is a lifestyle that God cannot endorse, 00:19:45.41\00:19:47.92 God loves the sinner but He hates the sin. 00:19:47.95\00:19:50.72 And homosexuality is something God cannot endorse 00:19:50.75\00:19:53.59 and it's not something that God has put in man 00:19:53.62\00:19:56.39 or anything like that. Right. 00:19:56.42\00:19:57.76 Yet there is a consistent cry from the homosexual community 00:19:57.79\00:20:02.76 that says, this is a natural development. 00:20:02.80\00:20:05.37 This is something that just took place in me. 00:20:05.40\00:20:07.74 I didn't ask to be gay, I didn't choose to be gay, 00:20:07.77\00:20:10.94 homosexuality chose me, 00:20:10.97\00:20:12.31 and therefore I'm just functioning 00:20:12.34\00:20:13.68 in my natural capacity. Yeah. 00:20:13.71\00:20:15.04 For the Christian position, 00:20:15.08\00:20:16.41 we believe that we have all a sinful nature 00:20:16.44\00:20:19.38 and that sinful nature can manifest itself 00:20:19.41\00:20:21.75 in several ways. 00:20:21.78\00:20:23.12 Some people are profuse liars, 00:20:23.15\00:20:25.49 some people are incredibly violent, 00:20:25.52\00:20:27.56 other individuals love to, 00:20:27.59\00:20:29.99 are very lustful in their minds. 00:20:30.03\00:20:32.63 And then you have others who may say, 00:20:32.66\00:20:34.23 I desire someone of the same sex. 00:20:34.26\00:20:36.26 In the Bible, all of these practices are condemned, 00:20:36.30\00:20:40.10 all of these practices are called out as sin. 00:20:40.14\00:20:44.34 And God provides a solution that says, 00:20:44.37\00:20:46.68 "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, 00:20:46.71\00:20:48.94 I will give you rest." 00:20:48.98\00:20:50.31 I will deliver you from these things. 00:20:50.35\00:20:52.55 So this is the Christian position 00:20:52.58\00:20:54.42 that just because something feels natural 00:20:54.45\00:20:56.75 or naturally develops in you does not mean it's right. 00:20:56.79\00:20:59.32 Right. 00:20:59.35\00:21:00.69 It does not mean it's right, 00:21:00.72\00:21:02.06 and therefore I may have to speak against it, 00:21:02.09\00:21:04.16 I may not be able to endorse it. 00:21:04.19\00:21:06.29 It may set limitations in my interaction with you 00:21:06.33\00:21:09.83 and that can easily be called discrimination. 00:21:09.86\00:21:11.93 Yes. 00:21:11.97\00:21:13.30 But in the Christian position, 00:21:13.34\00:21:14.67 it's called "Living by a Standard". 00:21:14.70\00:21:16.50 So how could something like that be fulfilled 00:21:16.54\00:21:19.67 if we were to take a very general principle like this 00:21:19.71\00:21:23.21 and just accept it 00:21:23.24\00:21:24.58 for what it says for face value. 00:21:24.61\00:21:25.95 Right, and it's also at admittance of the fact that 00:21:25.98\00:21:30.52 what this culture is 00:21:30.55\00:21:32.42 and represents cannot change the course of nature. 00:21:32.45\00:21:35.52 Right. 00:21:35.56\00:21:36.89 Which is not what the Bible teaches, 00:21:36.93\00:21:38.36 the Bible teaches that it can change, transform, 00:21:38.39\00:21:41.60 you can become a new creature, old things can pass away, 00:21:41.63\00:21:44.53 all things can become new with the power of God 00:21:44.57\00:21:47.44 and the Holy Spirit can change the heart. 00:21:47.47\00:21:50.04 So we don't have time to get into it 00:21:50.07\00:21:52.37 but there's a scientific, you know, 00:21:52.41\00:21:55.01 field of genetic research called Epigenetics. 00:21:55.04\00:21:59.38 And, you know, now they're able to show scientifically 00:21:59.41\00:22:02.45 that these very changes 00:22:02.48\00:22:04.42 that the Bible talks about can take place, 00:22:04.45\00:22:08.22 can literally take place scientifically, 00:22:08.26\00:22:10.49 they're able to see it and measure it. 00:22:10.53\00:22:12.59 So, you know, the old battle of nature versus nurture, 00:22:12.63\00:22:16.33 and do our characters and our ways 00:22:16.36\00:22:18.43 and habits formed by our DNA, 00:22:18.47\00:22:21.54 or is it formed by our environment 00:22:21.57\00:22:23.74 and culture environmental stimuli 00:22:23.77\00:22:25.64 both in the womb and, you know, coming up. 00:22:25.67\00:22:28.14 What is it that forms who we are 00:22:28.18\00:22:29.94 and informs our decisions? 00:22:29.98\00:22:33.18 And what they're finding is it's absolutely both, 00:22:33.21\00:22:36.58 it's both culture, I mean, it's both nurture and nature. 00:22:36.62\00:22:40.59 And the revolutionary development, 00:22:40.62\00:22:44.13 which is not revolutionary from a scriptural standpoint, 00:22:44.16\00:22:47.20 but it is revolutionary 00:22:47.23\00:22:48.56 from a scientific and academic standpoint, 00:22:48.60\00:22:50.57 is that even if you were born a certain way. 00:22:50.60\00:22:53.50 Let's say you had a pre, you know, 00:22:53.54\00:22:56.87 genetic disposition to alcoholism, 00:22:56.91\00:23:00.98 to becoming alcoholic. 00:23:01.01\00:23:02.64 Your grandfather, your great grandfather, 00:23:02.68\00:23:05.61 your uncles, your father, 00:23:05.65\00:23:07.65 on your mother side as well were all alcoholics. 00:23:07.68\00:23:12.15 When you are born, you do have a, 00:23:12.19\00:23:15.59 you know, an epigenetic marker that basically, 00:23:15.62\00:23:18.39 these are like identification switches 00:23:18.43\00:23:21.40 that can either turn on or turn off genetic expression. 00:23:21.43\00:23:25.43 Meaning, it can hit a switch that reveals the DNA code 00:23:25.47\00:23:30.71 so it can be read or it can hit a switch 00:23:30.74\00:23:32.84 that closes it, you know, 00:23:32.87\00:23:34.21 with the chromatin that shields the genetic code 00:23:34.24\00:23:37.28 so it can't be read. 00:23:37.31\00:23:38.65 So it's either expressed, if it can be read, 00:23:38.68\00:23:40.15 if it's closed and kind of shaded over, 00:23:40.18\00:23:42.32 it can't be read and expressed genetically. 00:23:42.35\00:23:44.62 So if you have this disposition for alcoholism, 00:23:44.65\00:23:48.36 then your genetic expression, the code for alcoholism 00:23:48.39\00:23:52.73 is exposed in your DNA. 00:23:52.76\00:23:55.00 So if you were to consume alcohol, 00:23:55.03\00:23:58.33 you would be genetically susceptible 00:23:58.37\00:24:01.34 to becoming addicted and becoming an alcoholic. 00:24:01.37\00:24:04.44 However, if you never touch the alcohol, 00:24:04.47\00:24:07.64 then it would be impossible for you to become an alcoholic. 00:24:07.68\00:24:10.78 If you never consumed alcohol, it would be impossible 00:24:10.81\00:24:14.52 for you to become an alcoholic. 00:24:14.55\00:24:15.98 And what they're finding is, 00:24:16.02\00:24:17.45 even the person with the predisposition 00:24:17.49\00:24:20.36 and they indulge in alcohol and they become an alcoholic, 00:24:20.39\00:24:23.96 by changes if they were to stop drinking alcohol 00:24:23.99\00:24:28.23 and other things that these epigenetic markers 00:24:28.26\00:24:30.73 can actually turn off the expression. 00:24:30.77\00:24:33.03 So even though, "They were born that way", 00:24:33.07\00:24:37.14 and they indulged and they got exploited 00:24:37.17\00:24:39.71 and genetically they were just enslaved to this thing, 00:24:39.74\00:24:43.51 they could make changes and those changes 00:24:43.55\00:24:45.91 would actually shut off that genetic expression, 00:24:45.95\00:24:49.35 so it can no longer be read. 00:24:49.38\00:24:51.29 And so you could literally change 00:24:51.32\00:24:53.05 and change at a genetic microscopic level. 00:24:53.09\00:24:55.69 So I mean, again, I could go on and on about that, 00:24:55.72\00:24:59.43 and there's videos and all kinds of research 00:24:59.46\00:25:01.10 but, you know, epigenetics is what it's called. 00:25:01.13\00:25:04.10 And so when we talk about, you know, 00:25:04.13\00:25:05.83 these ideas of the natural development, 00:25:05.87\00:25:08.57 we have to understand that 00:25:08.60\00:25:09.94 natural development is fairly subjective. 00:25:09.97\00:25:12.67 And if we go outside of authoritative reality, 00:25:12.71\00:25:16.58 which we're referring to a scripture 00:25:16.61\00:25:18.08 in the Word of God, then you can say, 00:25:18.11\00:25:20.22 "Oh, this person is just naturally 00:25:20.25\00:25:22.52 a violent person..." 00:25:22.55\00:25:23.89 Yeah, don't interfere with it. 00:25:23.92\00:25:25.25 Yeah, they're naturally a gangster, 00:25:25.29\00:25:26.65 you know, they're naturally, 00:25:26.69\00:25:28.02 they're just talking about their reality, 00:25:28.06\00:25:29.49 so they can't possibly, I'm not gonna tell them 00:25:29.52\00:25:31.79 that they can't express themselves this way 00:25:31.83\00:25:33.36 because that's who they are. 00:25:33.40\00:25:35.03 That is extremely dangerous and it leaves, you know, 00:25:35.06\00:25:39.83 everything open to just say, 00:25:39.87\00:25:42.27 "Well, everybody's gonna behave the way they're gonna behave, 00:25:42.30\00:25:44.87 there's nothing we can really do to change it. 00:25:44.91\00:25:47.28 As long as that's the reality, 00:25:47.31\00:25:48.68 they're free to express their reality." 00:25:48.71\00:25:50.58 And what that does is say, "Well, we are slaves" 00:25:50.61\00:25:54.25 to whatever natural development and natural expression 00:25:54.28\00:25:57.65 that we feel is, you know, warranted, 00:25:57.69\00:26:00.26 in this case or that case 00:26:00.29\00:26:01.62 and you really can't do anything. 00:26:01.66\00:26:02.99 So you're really sitting there 00:26:03.02\00:26:04.36 and admitting that this is the way it is, 00:26:04.39\00:26:07.36 there's yin and yang, good and evil in every one 00:26:07.40\00:26:10.27 and in every situation, in every household, 00:26:10.30\00:26:12.30 in every culture, in every society, 00:26:12.33\00:26:14.20 and there's nothing we can do to change it. 00:26:14.24\00:26:15.57 We can only seek to improve it a little bit 00:26:15.60\00:26:18.61 and make it a little better. 00:26:18.64\00:26:19.97 And isn't this exactly what Satan was trying to do 00:26:20.01\00:26:22.48 right there in the very beginning? 00:26:22.51\00:26:24.01 God's intention in the original plan 00:26:24.05\00:26:26.15 of true education was that mankind 00:26:26.18\00:26:28.25 would know good and good only. 00:26:28.28\00:26:30.02 Satan was the one that said, 00:26:30.05\00:26:31.39 "No, no, I think it would be better for you, 00:26:31.42\00:26:33.96 more helpful for you, if you disregard God 00:26:33.99\00:26:36.16 and enter into this brand new knowledge, 00:26:36.19\00:26:37.89 where you can now know good and evil. 00:26:37.93\00:26:40.80 And as a result of this, you'll ascend 00:26:40.83\00:26:43.43 and become like a God." 00:26:43.47\00:26:44.93 And this is again being perpetuated 00:26:44.97\00:26:46.60 in society today. 00:26:46.63\00:26:48.67 And God wants to break us free from these things 00:26:48.70\00:26:50.57 because they truly are a deceptive force 00:26:50.61\00:26:53.54 that is captivating the minds of many, 00:26:53.58\00:26:55.24 even individuals in hip-hop culture. 00:26:55.28\00:26:57.71 I know we only got a chance to visit 00:26:57.75\00:26:59.08 just one principle but this is just the point 00:26:59.11\00:27:01.28 of what's all throughout all 18 quite honestly. 00:27:01.32\00:27:03.75 It's just a constant revelation of open ended statements 00:27:03.79\00:27:08.92 that's calling for something but not practically showing 00:27:08.96\00:27:11.66 how it can be done and the power source 00:27:11.69\00:27:13.93 by which we can get it done. 00:27:13.96\00:27:15.90 Friends, this is again, you know, 00:27:15.93\00:27:17.50 the Lord trying to help us think 00:27:17.53\00:27:20.64 to reason and to consider what has been set before us 00:27:20.67\00:27:24.11 and then make decisions 00:27:24.14\00:27:25.47 according to his spirits leading. 00:27:25.51\00:27:26.91 We've been quoting a lot from 2 Peter 1, 00:27:26.94\00:27:29.68 and you will find that in that verse, 00:27:29.71\00:27:32.05 there actually was a solution 00:27:32.08\00:27:33.42 to those who even have these predispositions 00:27:33.45\00:27:36.25 as Brother Lance has been talking about. 00:27:36.28\00:27:38.59 It said, "Whereby given unto us 00:27:38.62\00:27:40.19 exceeding great and precious promises 00:27:40.22\00:27:41.99 that by these you might become partakers 00:27:42.02\00:27:44.26 of the divine nature, having escaped the corruptions 00:27:44.29\00:27:49.53 that are in the world through lust." 00:27:49.56\00:27:50.97 Through Christ, we can get victory over, 00:27:51.00\00:27:53.70 even our most highest 00:27:53.74\00:27:55.77 hereditary tendencies and besetments 00:27:55.80\00:27:58.21 through the power of His Spirit. 00:27:58.24\00:28:00.01 And I say, praise God for that. 00:28:00.04\00:28:01.78 We thank you so much for joining us, 00:28:01.81\00:28:03.28 we look forward to you coming back. 00:28:03.31\00:28:04.88 Please remember Proverbs 2:6, which clearly tells us, 00:28:04.91\00:28:08.38 "It is the Lord that gives us wisdom 00:28:08.42\00:28:10.25 and out of His mouth 00:28:10.29\00:28:11.79 comes knowledge and understanding." 00:28:11.82\00:28:14.39 God bless you. 00:28:14.42\00:28:15.76
