Hello, I'm Dwayne. And I'm Lance. 00:00:30.23\00:00:32.29 And we like to welcome you to another episode of TKS, 00:00:32.33\00:00:35.16 a True Knowledge of Self, 00:00:35.20\00:00:36.53 where we get to know ourselves from a biblical perspective. 00:00:36.56\00:00:39.70 In our last episode, we talked a lot about this contrast. 00:00:39.73\00:00:42.94 We spend some time looking at a true knowledge of self 00:00:42.97\00:00:45.61 from biblical perspective and then we looked at this idea 00:00:45.64\00:00:48.74 of knowledge of self that is constantly being promoted 00:00:48.78\00:00:51.35 through hip-hop culture, you know, 00:00:51.38\00:00:54.32 a place from which both of us came. 00:00:54.35\00:00:56.38 And we looked at this idea 00:00:56.42\00:00:59.99 that righteousness is what is necessary. 00:01:00.02\00:01:04.29 Absolutely. 00:01:04.33\00:01:05.66 We saw that righteousness can only come from God, 00:01:05.69\00:01:08.10 it's something that God possess in and of himself. 00:01:08.13\00:01:10.90 And we saw that God gave it to us in the beginning 00:01:10.93\00:01:14.67 as we looked at Genesis 1:26. 00:01:14.70\00:01:17.21 And that something happened that took it away 00:01:17.24\00:01:20.04 and we call that 'sin', we looked at Genesis 3. 00:01:20.08\00:01:24.61 What man has done to replace God's righteousness, 00:01:24.65\00:01:28.52 if you will, is what we refer to as self righteousness. 00:01:28.55\00:01:32.65 So, we simply produce this "righteousness", 00:01:32.69\00:01:37.06 that really isn't at all. 00:01:37.09\00:01:39.49 We saw that the heart is deceitful and desperate 00:01:39.53\00:01:41.66 above all things and in Jeremiah 17. 00:01:41.70\00:01:45.33 And now, as we're kind of wrestling with this idea 00:01:45.37\00:01:52.11 where what God has is what we need. 00:01:52.14\00:01:55.11 That's right. 00:01:55.14\00:01:56.48 It's what we once had but we've now lost. 00:01:56.51\00:01:59.71 We've spent all of our lives in some cases 00:01:59.75\00:02:02.22 trying to produce something that we cannot produce. 00:02:02.25\00:02:05.75 It requires, in order to obtain it, 00:02:05.79\00:02:07.66 it requires total dependence upon God. 00:02:07.69\00:02:10.13 In fact, it's God's plan of salvation, 00:02:10.16\00:02:12.59 we're going to be talking about that a little more. 00:02:12.63\00:02:14.96 And when I think about this, what hip-hop culture gave me 00:02:15.00\00:02:21.20 in this promotion of self righteousness, self exaltation. 00:02:21.24\00:02:28.11 I was thirsty for knowledge, 00:02:28.14\00:02:31.41 I mean, I got to a point in my young life 00:02:31.45\00:02:34.42 where I was sick and tired of the grinds, you know, 00:02:34.45\00:02:37.95 the day-to-day doing the same things 00:02:37.99\00:02:40.46 with the same people and, you know, 00:02:40.49\00:02:43.86 whether it was crime or parties, having fun, 00:02:43.89\00:02:47.30 or whatever other dirt I was involved with 00:02:47.33\00:02:49.93 in confusion I was subjected to. 00:02:49.96\00:02:52.67 I got sick and tired of it, you know. 00:02:52.70\00:02:54.30 And I refer to it as my mid-life crisis 00:02:54.34\00:02:56.10 even though I was just a teenager. 00:02:56.14\00:02:58.41 And I remember that one day 00:02:58.44\00:02:59.97 when I was there surrounded by friends, you know, 00:03:00.01\00:03:02.84 in this party atmosphere and I began to, you know, 00:03:02.88\00:03:06.15 reflect in my own mind and ask myself those questions, 00:03:06.18\00:03:08.38 you know, does God exist and all this stuff. 00:03:08.42\00:03:11.05 And I got a voice in my head, it said, 00:03:11.09\00:03:13.15 "If you want answers, go and read." 00:03:13.19\00:03:14.52 So I had this desire to know. 00:03:14.56\00:03:16.79 I knew that I was ignorant even though I was intelligent 00:03:16.83\00:03:20.03 and I was in control of my domain, if you will. 00:03:20.06\00:03:22.60 I knew I was ignorant, and I lack certain knowledge 00:03:22.63\00:03:25.67 and I wanted it desperately. 00:03:25.70\00:03:27.54 So I was already a citizen, if you will, a representative, 00:03:27.57\00:03:31.87 I'm an ambassador of hip-hop culture. 00:03:31.91\00:03:34.51 And kind of that's the lens 00:03:34.54\00:03:37.48 through which I looked at the world. 00:03:37.51\00:03:39.08 So when I got this voice came in my head, I literally... 00:03:39.11\00:03:41.55 It wasn't audible but, you know, 00:03:41.58\00:03:43.02 this voice came in my head 00:03:43.05\00:03:44.39 in my own quiet reflection, it said, 00:03:44.42\00:03:45.75 "If you want answers, go read." 00:03:45.79\00:03:47.12 So in this thirst for knowledge and this desire 00:03:47.16\00:03:50.06 and this seeking after knowledge, 00:03:50.09\00:03:51.43 I started just reading, you know, 00:03:51.46\00:03:52.93 reading philosophy and all these different books, 00:03:52.96\00:03:55.96 and different religions, and studying. 00:03:56.00\00:03:58.13 Because pretty much this idea that, 00:03:58.17\00:04:03.81 "We are God, essentially" 00:04:03.84\00:04:05.61 that's promoted by what you were involved 00:04:05.64\00:04:07.84 with 'Nuwaubianism', 00:04:07.88\00:04:09.21 what I was involved with in the Five-Percent Nation, 00:04:09.24\00:04:12.75 you know, or the NOI, Nation of Islam 00:04:12.78\00:04:14.58 or many other is that 00:04:14.62\00:04:15.95 the true knowledge is that God is us. 00:04:15.98\00:04:18.55 We are God. 00:04:18.59\00:04:19.92 And therefore what we say is truth is truth 00:04:19.95\00:04:23.96 and what we decide and what we choose 00:04:23.99\00:04:26.16 is righteousness and is authority. 00:04:26.19\00:04:28.06 So truth is kind of everywhere. 00:04:28.10\00:04:30.93 The various religions have become fronts, shields, 00:04:30.97\00:04:35.17 veils, if you will, for the deaf, dumb, 00:04:35.20\00:04:37.91 and blind that the ignorant, you know, 00:04:37.94\00:04:39.61 the mental dead and you have to peel back 00:04:39.64\00:04:42.81 those religious layers and those labels 00:04:42.84\00:04:45.55 to obtain the true hidden knowledge, 00:04:45.58\00:04:47.52 kind of that esoteric knowledge. 00:04:47.55\00:04:48.98 So that's what I was after. 00:04:49.02\00:04:50.35 And so I'm looking at philosophy books, 00:04:50.39\00:04:51.82 looking at Shamanism, looking at Buddhism, 00:04:51.85\00:04:53.99 looking at Islam, not necessarily for its value 00:04:54.02\00:04:57.13 but to peel back the layer 00:04:57.16\00:04:59.29 and see the true hidden knowledge 00:04:59.33\00:05:01.93 that I believed at that time 00:05:01.96\00:05:03.63 was true knowledge of self, right? 00:05:03.67\00:05:06.53 And I found myself, year after year, 00:05:06.57\00:05:10.14 completely unfulfilled in that, you know, 00:05:10.17\00:05:14.54 rat race, if you will, that constant desire, 00:05:14.58\00:05:17.31 although God was leading, you know, 00:05:17.35\00:05:20.72 God was kind of winking 00:05:20.75\00:05:22.42 as the Bible says at my ignorance 00:05:22.45\00:05:24.09 and he was drawing me and drawing me. 00:05:24.12\00:05:26.02 So as I was continuing and persevering 00:05:26.05\00:05:28.76 through the hardship and still trying to obtain the truth, 00:05:28.79\00:05:32.06 God was actually leading me, you know, 00:05:32.09\00:05:34.60 unbeknownst to me to the reality 00:05:34.63\00:05:37.53 that scripture presents that His word presents. 00:05:37.57\00:05:40.24 And so whether it was in my decision making 00:05:40.27\00:05:44.57 as it relates to crime, 00:05:44.61\00:05:47.01 decision making as it relates to, 00:05:47.04\00:05:49.91 you know, family. 00:05:49.94\00:05:51.28 By that time in my late teens 00:05:51.31\00:05:53.35 my oldest daughter was born, you know. 00:05:53.38\00:05:55.45 So I'm making kind of life-changing decisions 00:05:55.48\00:05:57.72 as I'm navigating through this search for knowledge 00:05:57.75\00:06:00.49 and really all I was consulting with was myself. 00:06:00.52\00:06:05.39 And even as I started, you know, 00:06:05.43\00:06:06.86 looking at 'New Age' religion 00:06:06.90\00:06:08.23 and started practicing meditation. 00:06:08.26\00:06:11.73 Meditation is kind of emptying self 00:06:11.77\00:06:14.57 and you're looking within, 00:06:14.60\00:06:16.57 if you will, the solution is inside. 00:06:16.60\00:06:19.14 So you're learning how to empty your mind 00:06:19.17\00:06:21.31 and focus on all these things 00:06:21.34\00:06:23.14 and, you know, it goes on and on. 00:06:23.18\00:06:24.85 But nevertheless I'm consulting with myself. 00:06:24.88\00:06:27.78 I am the barometer. I am the standard, if you will. 00:06:27.82\00:06:31.65 And whatever I choose to accept and identify 00:06:31.69\00:06:34.26 as truth becomes the truth. 00:06:34.29\00:06:35.69 So I'm looking at everything and I'm saying, 00:06:35.72\00:06:37.59 "Well, there's a little bit of truth in everything." 00:06:37.63\00:06:39.89 I simply have to manufacture it into my package 00:06:39.93\00:06:42.86 and this becomes truth. 00:06:42.90\00:06:44.70 And I am the controller of my own destiny. 00:06:44.73\00:06:47.67 I am the master of my own domain 00:06:47.70\00:06:50.31 and whatever I identify as truth, that's what it is. 00:06:50.34\00:06:53.81 And you, kind of, look in disgust at Christianity 00:06:53.84\00:06:58.55 and set religions and labels 00:06:58.58\00:07:01.58 and you feel like you transcended any label 00:07:01.62\00:07:05.95 that human has put on individuals. 00:07:05.99\00:07:08.22 So I was hip-hop culture and hip-hop culture taught me 00:07:08.26\00:07:12.59 that I am God, that labels do not bind me 00:07:12.63\00:07:17.13 that my expression is paramount. 00:07:17.17\00:07:20.74 And so it's one of the most deceptive 00:07:20.77\00:07:25.64 and powerfully selfish forms in ways of living. 00:07:25.67\00:07:30.08 Because every single decision you make 00:07:30.11\00:07:32.98 is tainted with self-interest, and self-exaltation, 00:07:33.01\00:07:37.32 and self-gratification. 00:07:37.35\00:07:39.02 And so, I was completely empty, empty through it all. 00:07:39.05\00:07:45.33 And it wasn't until, and as I told the story before, 00:07:45.36\00:07:48.26 it wasn't until I started actually studying the Bible 00:07:48.30\00:07:51.33 through a series of, you know, providential circumstances. 00:07:51.37\00:07:56.04 The very thing that I was rejecting, 00:07:56.07\00:07:58.37 the very thing that I was dismissing 00:07:58.41\00:08:00.98 became the very source that fulfilled me 00:08:01.01\00:08:03.88 and gave me a true knowledge of self. 00:08:03.91\00:08:06.25 So as we are talking about this stuff 00:08:06.28\00:08:07.88 and we are talking about righteousness, 00:08:07.92\00:08:09.85 self-righteousness, 00:08:09.88\00:08:11.22 we are talking about God's plan of salvation. 00:08:11.25\00:08:14.22 You know, how does it work? 00:08:14.26\00:08:15.86 We're going to talk about that but you know, 00:08:15.89\00:08:17.73 what do you have to say about this 00:08:17.76\00:08:19.19 'cause I know you had a similar experience? 00:08:19.23\00:08:20.56 Yeah, I mean, and it's not just me, 00:08:20.60\00:08:22.53 I think it's all of us, you know. 00:08:22.56\00:08:24.07 All of humanity at some point or another 00:08:24.10\00:08:26.30 has run into a place 00:08:26.33\00:08:27.67 where we were trying to make ourselves right, you know. 00:08:27.70\00:08:30.84 And often it is without God 00:08:30.87\00:08:32.97 we have all this experimentation. 00:08:33.01\00:08:35.31 If you really wanted to sum up self-righteousness 00:08:35.34\00:08:39.45 or this deceptive aspect of self-righteousness, 00:08:39.48\00:08:42.85 it actually goes back to the garden. 00:08:42.88\00:08:45.15 Satan introduced a thought process 00:08:45.19\00:08:47.16 and through the medium of the serpent to Eve's mind 00:08:47.19\00:08:49.22 that speaks volumes 00:08:49.26\00:08:50.83 because it's still what's happening today 00:08:50.86\00:08:52.96 that is causing the skewing of righteousness by faith. 00:08:52.99\00:08:56.33 When you look at Genesis 3, it says right there 00:08:56.36\00:08:59.30 in verses 4 and 5. 00:08:59.33\00:09:02.00 "And the serpent said unto the woman, 00:09:02.04\00:09:03.84 you shall not surely die." 00:09:03.87\00:09:05.67 Now, God made a clear command, 00:09:05.71\00:09:07.88 "If you eat of this, you shall surely die." 00:09:07.91\00:09:10.88 Satan comes along and tries to supersede God and says, 00:09:10.91\00:09:15.18 "What God said is wrong." 00:09:15.22\00:09:16.55 He says, "You shall not surely die," 00:09:16.58\00:09:17.92 but then he puts in another piece to the package. 00:09:17.95\00:09:20.36 It says, "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, 00:09:20.39\00:09:24.79 then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as Gods, 00:09:24.83\00:09:28.86 knowing good and evil." 00:09:28.90\00:09:31.23 Here it is that Satan tried to introduce 00:09:31.27\00:09:34.64 that if you disobey God and His commandments, 00:09:34.67\00:09:38.01 you can actually ascend to a higher existence. 00:09:38.04\00:09:41.28 And this is basically the same lie 00:09:41.31\00:09:43.35 that is being perpetuated today. 00:09:43.38\00:09:44.75 Right, and so, from both of our perspectives, 00:09:44.78\00:09:46.72 we were victims of that ancient deception. 00:09:46.75\00:09:49.55 That's correct. 00:09:49.58\00:09:50.92 That's exactly is, because it goes way back 00:09:50.95\00:09:52.55 to the beginning of time. 00:09:52.59\00:09:53.92 You can ascend, you can be right with God, 00:09:53.96\00:09:56.29 and you can still violate His law, 00:09:56.32\00:09:58.49 and somehow be in right standing with Him. 00:09:58.53\00:10:00.70 And this is the deception that goes way back. 00:10:00.73\00:10:02.70 Even last year, you know, there was a statement 00:10:02.73\00:10:05.87 that was made interestingly enough through an individual 00:10:05.90\00:10:09.80 who was an evangelical by the name of Bishop Tony Palmer 00:10:09.84\00:10:13.61 where he was kind of instrumental 00:10:13.64\00:10:15.84 in being a voice of ecumenism for the Roman Catholic church 00:10:15.88\00:10:20.18 and Pope Francis where he tried to tell Protestants, 00:10:20.22\00:10:23.05 "You don't need be a Protestant anymore, 00:10:23.08\00:10:25.09 the protest is over." 00:10:25.12\00:10:27.82 And he actually tried to say it like, 00:10:27.86\00:10:29.62 because now we even as Roman Catholics, 00:10:29.66\00:10:32.13 we also believe in righteousness by faith, 00:10:32.16\00:10:33.93 we believe in justification by faith 00:10:33.96\00:10:36.23 and they are trying to present that. 00:10:36.26\00:10:38.27 And I thought it was a very interesting statement 00:10:38.30\00:10:40.17 because there are individuals that think 00:10:40.20\00:10:43.04 we can be in right standing with God, 00:10:43.07\00:10:45.27 yet we can still violate His law. 00:10:45.31\00:10:47.74 And whether it be, 00:10:47.78\00:10:49.44 you don't have to keep God's commandments 00:10:49.48\00:10:51.25 specifically the seventh-day Sabbath 00:10:51.28\00:10:53.08 and you can go ahead and keep another day of the week 00:10:53.11\00:10:54.75 as the Lord's Day. 00:10:54.78\00:10:56.12 Or otherwise there are errors 00:10:56.15\00:10:57.52 that are constantly being perpetuated 00:10:57.55\00:10:59.29 in the name of righteousness by faith, 00:10:59.32\00:11:01.16 violating God's law, 00:11:01.19\00:11:02.76 yet being in right standing with God. 00:11:02.79\00:11:05.16 In other words, it's like let's not focus on the things 00:11:05.19\00:11:08.23 that divide us. 00:11:08.26\00:11:09.60 That's correct. 00:11:09.63\00:11:10.97 Let's focus on the things that we agree upon. 00:11:11.00\00:11:12.50 And that's okay to a certain point, 00:11:12.53\00:11:14.90 but not at the expense 00:11:14.94\00:11:16.27 of God's righteousness and His commandments. 00:11:16.30\00:11:17.81 Well, let's think about it this way. 00:11:17.84\00:11:19.17 If you look at Romans 2:13, the Bible says, 00:11:19.21\00:11:21.98 "For not the hearers of the law are just before God, 00:11:22.01\00:11:26.38 but the doers of the law shall be justified." 00:11:26.41\00:11:29.85 Now that doesn't mean that if I perform a work 00:11:29.88\00:11:33.22 that I can be made in right standing with God. 00:11:33.25\00:11:35.66 What this verse is actually saying 00:11:35.69\00:11:37.23 and that's why sometimes looking at 00:11:37.26\00:11:38.59 in the original is helpful. 00:11:38.63\00:11:39.96 Because when it says, 00:11:40.00\00:11:41.33 "For the doers of the law shall be justified," 00:11:41.36\00:11:43.80 it actually says in the Greek, 00:11:43.83\00:11:45.33 "For the doers of the law shall be declared justified." 00:11:45.37\00:11:48.40 In other words, if an individual 00:11:48.44\00:11:49.84 truly is experiencing justification by faith, 00:11:49.87\00:11:52.74 it will be shown through their lives 00:11:52.77\00:11:56.21 being in harmony with God's law. 00:11:56.24\00:11:57.81 Nobody can live in sin 00:11:57.85\00:12:01.12 and at the same time claim to be in harmony with God. 00:12:01.15\00:12:04.45 It is a lie, it is a deception. 00:12:04.49\00:12:06.22 It goes way back to that deceptive work 00:12:06.25\00:12:08.42 of the serpent right there in the garden. 00:12:08.46\00:12:10.19 So there is a biblical culture of Christianity. 00:12:10.23\00:12:14.40 We realize now that we are outside of it, 00:12:14.43\00:12:17.23 you know, some of us where we were outside of it. 00:12:17.27\00:12:20.34 So the question is how do we turn 00:12:20.37\00:12:22.80 from the slavery of sin 00:12:22.84\00:12:26.04 and doing the things that we, 00:12:26.07\00:12:27.74 in many cases, know to be wrong. 00:12:27.78\00:12:29.38 That's right. But we are slave to it. 00:12:29.41\00:12:31.15 That's correct. 00:12:31.18\00:12:32.51 How do we get out of that? How do we turn? 00:12:32.55\00:12:33.95 Fantastic question, because this I believe is the question. 00:12:33.98\00:12:37.09 A lot of people have given up on Christ, Christianity, 00:12:37.12\00:12:41.76 and the Word of God 00:12:41.79\00:12:43.12 and the true principals of righteousness by faith 00:12:43.16\00:12:44.99 because they did not know how to apply it. 00:12:45.03\00:12:47.60 They did not know how does it work. 00:12:47.63\00:12:49.10 And when you keep trying something 00:12:49.13\00:12:51.33 and you keep failing, you start to convince your mind, 00:12:51.37\00:12:53.67 "You know what, it's not possible." 00:12:53.70\00:12:55.07 So, when you think of the concept 00:12:55.10\00:12:56.50 of victory over sin, 00:12:56.54\00:12:57.87 that man can get to a point that he can love God so much 00:12:57.91\00:13:00.24 that he'll actually keep God's commandments 00:13:00.28\00:13:02.11 rather than break them. 00:13:02.14\00:13:03.48 1 John 3:4 says, 00:13:03.51\00:13:05.31 "Sin is the breaking of God's commandments." 00:13:05.35\00:13:07.78 God's commandments are righteousness as we studied. 00:13:07.82\00:13:10.79 So therefore God, when He says, 00:13:10.82\00:13:12.75 "If you love Me, you'll keep My commandments," 00:13:12.79\00:13:15.89 then God is saying, "Love enables us 00:13:15.92\00:13:18.09 to actually obey and experience true righteousness." 00:13:18.13\00:13:21.53 And this is the love that God must shed in our hearts. 00:13:21.56\00:13:23.77 It's something we can't shed in and of ourselves. 00:13:23.80\00:13:26.30 So one of the first things that man has to understand 00:13:26.33\00:13:28.87 in true righteousness by faith, is the principle of John 15:5, 00:13:28.90\00:13:33.07 "Without me you can do nothing." 00:13:33.11\00:13:34.84 And that includes you can't even love God. 00:13:34.88\00:13:37.08 I can't love God. 00:13:37.11\00:13:38.45 People can say they love people all the time 00:13:38.48\00:13:40.28 and this why again I believe 00:13:40.32\00:13:42.55 it's so important for us to deal with the realities 00:13:42.58\00:13:44.65 that are taught through hip-hop culture 00:13:44.69\00:13:46.25 because hip-hop culture has many pillars 00:13:46.29\00:13:48.72 and we're going to talk about them. 00:13:48.76\00:13:50.09 And one of the chief pillars is something called love. 00:13:50.13\00:13:52.13 But we're going to identify 00:13:52.16\00:13:53.50 is it true love or is it false love. 00:13:53.53\00:13:55.06 Jesus says, "If you love Me, you will keep righteousness. 00:13:55.10\00:13:58.10 You will keep My commandments." 00:13:58.13\00:13:59.47 But the problem is naturally I don't love God. 00:13:59.50\00:14:02.30 Naturally no man loves God. 00:14:02.34\00:14:04.27 Jeremiah 13:23 says, 00:14:04.31\00:14:06.81 "Can the Ethiopian change his skin?" 00:14:06.84\00:14:08.38 The answer is no. 00:14:08.41\00:14:09.74 "Can the leopard change his spots?" 00:14:09.78\00:14:11.25 The answer is no. 00:14:11.28\00:14:12.61 Then it says, "Then, how can you do good 00:14:12.65\00:14:14.08 that are accustomed to doing evil?" 00:14:14.12\00:14:16.02 So, if I am bent on evil, 00:14:16.05\00:14:18.55 I can't at the same time profess 00:14:18.59\00:14:20.29 that I love righteousness. 00:14:20.32\00:14:21.66 So I need a power source outside of myself 00:14:21.69\00:14:25.36 to enable me to do 00:14:25.39\00:14:26.73 what is impossible for me to do otherwise. 00:14:26.76\00:14:28.46 So in that sentiment that's presented in the culture 00:14:28.50\00:14:33.03 we, you know, it's... 00:14:33.07\00:14:35.67 Christianity in the standards 00:14:35.70\00:14:37.11 that the Bible presents are dismissed 00:14:37.14\00:14:39.07 because they view it as oppressive. 00:14:39.11\00:14:40.88 You know, they're colonial, you know, 00:14:40.91\00:14:43.18 remnants of colonialism there. 00:14:43.21\00:14:44.91 There's something 00:14:44.95\00:14:46.28 that people have used to enslave other people. 00:14:46.31\00:14:50.29 Well, think about it this way. 00:14:50.32\00:14:51.65 Satan goes to Eve and says, "You won't die," 00:14:51.69\00:14:55.09 so he's inferring God as a liar, 00:14:55.12\00:14:57.29 then he says, "Actually when you sin, 00:14:57.33\00:15:00.03 your eyes are going to be open." 00:15:00.06\00:15:01.43 What is that infer? 00:15:01.46\00:15:02.80 That means that God was keeping your eyes closed. 00:15:02.83\00:15:05.23 It's like, he's constantly attacking God. 00:15:05.27\00:15:07.60 The same way we see that the culture of hip-hop 00:15:07.64\00:15:09.50 is constantly attacking biblical religion today. 00:15:09.54\00:15:12.24 It's constantly making it sound like, 00:15:12.27\00:15:13.94 "Stay out of this box, don't be boxed in, be free." 00:15:13.98\00:15:17.85 That's exactly what the serpent said to Eve 00:15:17.88\00:15:19.78 and he did tell part of the truth 00:15:19.81\00:15:21.92 because he said, "When you eat from it," 00:15:21.95\00:15:24.45 he did say "your eyes will be opened," 00:15:24.49\00:15:25.99 and that was true. 00:15:26.02\00:15:27.36 But the problem was when their eyes were opened, 00:15:27.39\00:15:29.46 they were not like God's, 00:15:29.49\00:15:30.83 they did not ascend higher, they went lower. 00:15:30.86\00:15:32.83 And that's the part that he kept out 00:15:32.86\00:15:34.46 because that's the deceptive nature of the serpent. 00:15:34.50\00:15:36.46 So it is that that's the deceptive nature 00:15:36.50\00:15:38.50 of hip-hop culture. 00:15:38.53\00:15:39.87 And I think it's important to interject this point. 00:15:39.90\00:15:41.44 Yeah. 00:15:41.47\00:15:42.80 We are not saying that those who teach, and proclaim, 00:15:42.84\00:15:47.34 and uplift hip-hop culture 00:15:47.38\00:15:49.51 are actual manipulative deceivers 00:15:49.54\00:15:54.02 that are deliberately going out and trying to do people wrong. 00:15:54.05\00:15:57.39 There are people, I am sure, that are in hip-hop culture 00:15:57.42\00:16:00.52 that lift it up and they believe is right. 00:16:00.56\00:16:02.96 They believe what they are doing is right. 00:16:02.99\00:16:04.53 Yeah. They think it's a solution. 00:16:04.56\00:16:05.89 Yeah. They're sincere. 00:16:05.93\00:16:07.26 But the problem is this that you can be sincerely wrong. 00:16:07.30\00:16:09.20 And that's why truth makes people free. 00:16:09.23\00:16:10.97 So that's why our program is based on teaching the truth 00:16:11.00\00:16:13.30 and giving people the true knowledge of self. 00:16:13.34\00:16:15.40 And we are not trying to simply condemn individuals 00:16:15.44\00:16:19.21 and things of that nature, 00:16:19.24\00:16:20.58 even though they lift up hip-hop culture 00:16:20.61\00:16:21.94 because they just might be counted amongst those 00:16:21.98\00:16:23.71 who are suffering with blindness, spiritual blindness. 00:16:23.75\00:16:25.71 And we're also not saying is that 00:16:25.75\00:16:27.18 everybody that wears the label 'Christianity' 00:16:27.22\00:16:30.02 is all of a sudden representing God 00:16:30.05\00:16:32.35 and the truth and the Word and all those things. 00:16:32.39\00:16:34.06 We understand and that's 00:16:34.09\00:16:35.42 one of things that we looked at, 00:16:35.46\00:16:36.79 you know, that I know I did. 00:16:36.83\00:16:38.16 When you looked at Christianity 00:16:38.19\00:16:39.53 I only saw evil, treachery, deception... 00:16:39.56\00:16:42.83 The dark ages, persecution, you know, 00:16:42.86\00:16:45.00 killing of other people, 00:16:45.03\00:16:46.37 enslaving other people, conquering nations, 00:16:46.40\00:16:49.24 forcing whole entire ethnicities into, 00:16:49.27\00:16:52.27 you know, almost extinction. 00:16:52.31\00:16:53.71 So I saw historically Christianity is something 00:16:53.74\00:16:57.45 that is oppressive and not uplifting. 00:16:57.48\00:16:59.28 That is correct. 00:16:59.31\00:17:00.65 And so we're not saying that every person that names 00:17:00.68\00:17:02.75 the name of Christ or calls themselves, 00:17:02.78\00:17:04.82 you know, goes to a church 00:17:04.85\00:17:06.19 or is the example that we are supposed to be following. 00:17:06.22\00:17:08.49 But the Bible gives us an example. 00:17:08.52\00:17:10.13 Well, the Bible is very clear, isn't it? 00:17:10.16\00:17:11.49 Yeah. 00:17:11.53\00:17:12.86 It says in Matthew 7, 00:17:12.89\00:17:14.23 "By their fruit you shall know them." 00:17:14.26\00:17:15.60 So anybody can say they are Christian, 00:17:15.63\00:17:16.97 they say, well, anybody can say that they love their wives 00:17:17.00\00:17:18.70 but the problem is, 00:17:18.73\00:17:20.07 if you are coming home and beating your wife up 00:17:20.10\00:17:22.10 or, you know, beating your children up 00:17:22.14\00:17:23.67 because they irk you or got you upset. 00:17:23.71\00:17:25.87 Your actions are demonstrating that your declaration is false. 00:17:25.91\00:17:29.34 And so it is that when an individual is saying 00:17:29.38\00:17:31.45 that they love God, and they want to serve God, 00:17:31.48\00:17:33.72 and do all these things, and yet they know 00:17:33.75\00:17:36.25 what God requires but just choose not to do it. 00:17:36.28\00:17:38.72 The Bible has a word for that and it's found in 1 John. 00:17:38.75\00:17:41.19 In the Book of 1 John, 00:17:41.22\00:17:43.09 you'll see right there in 1 John 2. 00:17:43.12\00:17:45.69 The Bible makes it very clear, 1 John 2:4, 00:17:45.73\00:17:49.56 "He that saith, I know Him 00:17:49.60\00:17:51.30 and keepeth not His commandments, 00:17:51.33\00:17:53.57 is a lair, and the truth is not in him." 00:17:53.60\00:17:56.30 So this is what the Bible says and we have to accept 00:17:56.34\00:17:58.57 the clear testimony of scripture. 00:17:58.61\00:18:00.38 So there are people who are making professions, 00:18:00.41\00:18:02.44 declarations etc, people are, 00:18:02.48\00:18:05.21 they are pursuing righteousness. 00:18:05.25\00:18:06.65 They want it but the problem is they don't really know 00:18:06.68\00:18:08.85 how to get it. 00:18:08.88\00:18:10.22 So the first phase is for an individual 00:18:10.25\00:18:12.55 to understand, "I am a sinner. I am wrong. 00:18:12.59\00:18:16.69 I am not as great and wonderful and marvelous and righteous, 00:18:16.73\00:18:21.86 a person as I think I am, or thought I am. 00:18:21.90\00:18:24.20 I must recognize I am a sinner." 00:18:24.23\00:18:26.13 In fact, I like Leviticus 4, 00:18:26.17\00:18:28.04 I think Leviticus 4 makes it plain, 00:18:28.07\00:18:29.50 this whole process we're talking about. 00:18:29.54\00:18:31.04 So we're going to just meditate a little bit on Leviticus 4. 00:18:31.07\00:18:34.51 It was, you know, the sanctuary services 00:18:34.54\00:18:37.05 God was showing the common people, 00:18:37.08\00:18:40.25 this is how you come to Me, 00:18:40.28\00:18:42.12 and this is how we can make some wrongs right, all right? 00:18:42.15\00:18:45.12 So I believe the more that we look at Leviticus 4, 00:18:45.15\00:18:48.09 we can find some nice principles in here 00:18:48.12\00:18:50.19 that we can apply today 00:18:50.23\00:18:51.99 of how God can help us get out of the false concepts 00:18:52.03\00:18:55.30 of righteousness into the true knowledge of self 00:18:55.33\00:18:58.93 and true righteousness by faith. 00:18:58.97\00:19:00.60 Yeah. All right. 00:19:00.64\00:19:01.97 In Leviticus 4, it starts right at verse 27, the Bible says, 00:19:02.00\00:19:05.51 "And if anyone of the common people sin through ignorance, 00:19:05.54\00:19:09.31 while he doeth somewhat against any of the commandments 00:19:09.34\00:19:12.31 of the Lord concerning things 00:19:12.35\00:19:13.82 which ought not to be done and be guilty or if his sin, 00:19:13.85\00:19:17.65 which he hath sinned, come to his knowledge: 00:19:17.69\00:19:21.02 then he shall bring his offering, 00:19:21.06\00:19:23.69 a kid of the goats, a female without blemish, 00:19:23.73\00:19:25.89 for his sin which he hath sinned." 00:19:25.93\00:19:27.56 So the first part we see is 00:19:27.60\00:19:28.93 that the individual must acknowledge their sin. 00:19:28.96\00:19:30.47 They have to see, I am a sinner. 00:19:30.50\00:19:32.33 I'm not in as greater shape as I thought I was. 00:19:32.37\00:19:34.90 I'm not as great a mother, father, brother, sister, friend 00:19:34.94\00:19:37.74 or worker, even gospel worker, or religious person. 00:19:37.77\00:19:41.21 I am not as great as I thought I was 00:19:41.24\00:19:42.84 and I'm certainly not a God. 00:19:42.88\00:19:44.21 So I need help, I am a sinner. 00:19:44.25\00:19:46.48 "And all sinners have the same condemnation which is death," 00:19:46.51\00:19:49.25 Romans 6:23. The payment for sin is death. 00:19:49.28\00:19:51.95 If you are a sinner, it means you committed sin 00:19:51.99\00:19:54.56 and nobody likes to work and not get paid. 00:19:54.59\00:19:57.23 And so it is that the Bible says, 00:19:57.26\00:19:58.59 "The payment for sin is death." 00:19:58.63\00:20:00.23 So sinners are on a path that leads to destruction. 00:20:00.26\00:20:04.20 God's love says, "I don't want you to die, 00:20:04.23\00:20:06.94 I want you to live." 00:20:06.97\00:20:08.30 So He was willing to do for man what man cannot do for himself. 00:20:08.34\00:20:12.01 Man couldn't save himself. 00:20:12.04\00:20:13.38 So God so loved the world that He said, 00:20:13.41\00:20:14.81 "I'm going to let you have My only begotten Son." 00:20:14.84\00:20:17.08 Now, that word 'begotten' needs to be understood right. 00:20:17.11\00:20:20.52 That word 'begotten' in the Greek 00:20:20.55\00:20:22.12 is a Greek word 'monogenes'. 00:20:22.15\00:20:23.69 It means the only one of its kind. 00:20:23.72\00:20:25.72 So when God says, when the Bible says, 00:20:25.75\00:20:27.86 "For God so loved the world 00:20:27.89\00:20:29.36 that He gave His only begotten Son," 00:20:29.39\00:20:30.83 He was saying, "I'm giving the only One 00:20:30.86\00:20:32.46 that's like Me." 00:20:32.49\00:20:33.83 In other words, the Father gave everything 00:20:33.86\00:20:36.23 so that man can have everything. 00:20:36.26\00:20:38.07 Yeah, the only solution. The only solution. 00:20:38.10\00:20:40.54 This must be brought to the mind of the individual, 00:20:40.57\00:20:43.64 you can't save yourself. 00:20:43.67\00:20:45.01 You cannot do... 00:20:45.04\00:20:46.68 Acts 4:12, "There is only one name under heaven 00:20:46.71\00:20:49.78 whereby a man may be saved and that is Christ Jesus." 00:20:49.81\00:20:52.55 So the first thing I had to realize 00:20:52.58\00:20:53.92 coming out of hip-hop culture is that 00:20:53.95\00:20:55.72 I can't do anything to give myself merit 00:20:55.75\00:20:57.82 before God. 00:20:57.85\00:20:59.19 I am messed up and I need help. 00:20:59.22\00:21:00.56 I am a sinner and I need salvation 00:21:00.59\00:21:02.89 and it only comes through one man. 00:21:02.92\00:21:04.29 It doesn't come through Buddha, 00:21:04.33\00:21:05.69 it doesn't come through Muhammad, 00:21:05.73\00:21:07.06 it doesn't come through Zen, 00:21:07.10\00:21:08.43 it dose not come through many of the other names 00:21:08.46\00:21:10.37 in various religions 00:21:10.40\00:21:11.73 and it certainly doesn't come through my name 00:21:11.77\00:21:13.10 Dwayne Lemon. 00:21:13.13\00:21:14.47 So therefore it comes through Christ. 00:21:14.50\00:21:15.84 So the individual must be willing to accept 00:21:15.87\00:21:17.91 that propitiation that was made on their behalf. 00:21:17.94\00:21:20.14 Jesus was willing to die that man may live, 00:21:20.18\00:21:22.44 we must accept that by faith. 00:21:22.48\00:21:24.95 This would be what we will call phase I. 00:21:24.98\00:21:27.02 I am a sinner, I am in sin, I have violated God's law, 00:21:27.05\00:21:30.02 I am guilty, and I need salvation, 00:21:30.05\00:21:32.49 and it can only come through the merits of someone 00:21:32.52\00:21:35.36 who suffered the death I should die 00:21:35.39\00:21:38.83 that I may have the life that He lived. 00:21:38.86\00:21:41.73 And so what's the next step? 00:21:41.76\00:21:43.10 Well, then the next step would be very simple. 00:21:43.13\00:21:44.87 After an individual receives the Bible says 00:21:44.90\00:21:46.84 something beautiful happens. 00:21:46.87\00:21:48.20 It's in Romans 3 and in Romans 3, 00:21:48.24\00:21:51.47 it is sweet, and I love talking about this. 00:21:51.51\00:21:53.84 It says in Romans 3, we read it before 00:21:53.88\00:21:56.78 in our previous program but I'm going to read it again. 00:21:56.81\00:21:58.65 It says, "Even," in verse 22, "Even the righteousness of God 00:21:58.68\00:22:03.79 which is by faith of Jesus Christ 00:22:03.82\00:22:07.22 unto all and upon all them that believe, 00:22:07.26\00:22:11.76 for there is no difference." 00:22:11.79\00:22:13.19 When an individual recognizes, 00:22:13.23\00:22:16.56 "I'm a sinner, I need salvation. 00:22:16.60\00:22:18.93 I can't save myself. 00:22:18.97\00:22:20.30 I can't make myself right with God." 00:22:20.34\00:22:21.94 Then what they do is they go to the one 00:22:21.97\00:22:23.84 who can make them right which is Jesus. 00:22:23.87\00:22:25.61 They confess their sins, "Lord, I have sinned, 00:22:25.64\00:22:28.81 I have messed up, I have done wrong, 00:22:28.84\00:22:30.91 I need your help. 00:22:30.95\00:22:32.28 Will you please have mercy on me and forgive me?" 00:22:32.31\00:22:34.62 And as long as that's done with a sincere heart, 00:22:34.65\00:22:36.89 the Bible says, "God will forgive them," 00:22:36.92\00:22:39.95 1 John 1:9. 00:22:39.99\00:22:41.32 If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, 00:22:41.36\00:22:43.93 He will forgive us, 00:22:43.96\00:22:45.29 He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 00:22:45.33\00:22:47.16 Now, if you're cleansed from all unrighteousness, 00:22:47.20\00:22:50.40 then what are you? 00:22:50.43\00:22:51.77 Righteous. Righteous. 00:22:51.80\00:22:53.13 So, now this person is in right standing of God but why? 00:22:53.17\00:22:55.87 It said in the verse 22, 00:22:55.90\00:22:57.51 "Even though righteousness of God 00:22:57.54\00:22:59.17 which by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them 00:22:59.21\00:23:03.68 that believe." 00:23:03.71\00:23:05.05 God takes His righteous robe 00:23:05.08\00:23:06.55 and as after we confess our sins 00:23:06.58\00:23:08.75 and plead the merits of Christ on my behalf 00:23:08.78\00:23:11.45 that God now can take away our filthiness in that record. 00:23:11.49\00:23:15.79 And He now can clothe us with His righteousness. 00:23:15.82\00:23:20.36 So now when God looks at us, He sees us just as He desired. 00:23:20.40\00:23:23.53 He sees us as righteous 00:23:23.57\00:23:25.17 and now there is only thing left to do. 00:23:25.20\00:23:26.87 Stay righteous. 00:23:26.90\00:23:29.00 This is what we call abiding in Christ. 00:23:29.04\00:23:31.57 So now we have to go ahead and say, "All right. 00:23:31.61\00:23:33.74 I am actually made in right standing with God 00:23:33.78\00:23:35.94 not because of anything I did 00:23:35.98\00:23:37.75 but because of the one who did all things 00:23:37.78\00:23:39.41 on my behalf. 00:23:39.45\00:23:40.78 I acknowledge what Christ has done for me 00:23:40.82\00:23:42.95 and accept it as a substitute, 00:23:42.98\00:23:46.39 His death for my death, His life for my life. 00:23:46.42\00:23:50.76 So now I'm seeking to live the life of Christ day-by-day, 00:23:50.79\00:23:54.96 and that's why Romans 8 becomes 00:23:55.00\00:23:57.37 a balancing point of the scripture. 00:23:57.40\00:23:59.30 It is not just simply a robe of righteousness 00:23:59.33\00:24:01.77 that God wants to put upon us to justify us. 00:24:01.80\00:24:05.14 And I want to be clear. 00:24:05.17\00:24:06.94 The robe of Christ is not put over a dirty robe. 00:24:06.98\00:24:11.28 I want to make that clear. 00:24:11.31\00:24:12.65 The robe of Christ is put on an individual 00:24:12.68\00:24:15.45 after their dirty robe has been taken away. 00:24:15.48\00:24:17.55 A beautiful way to look at this is to simply study Zachariah 3. 00:24:17.59\00:24:21.29 When Satan had to accuse Joshua before the angel, 00:24:21.32\00:24:26.43 Satan was accusing, accusing, accusing 00:24:26.46\00:24:29.03 but the Lord rebuked him. 00:24:29.06\00:24:30.40 And then the Bible says, "Take away the filthy garment 00:24:30.43\00:24:35.40 and then put on the right garment." 00:24:35.44\00:24:38.24 This is what God does with us. 00:24:38.27\00:24:39.61 So He doesn't clothe our sinfulness 00:24:39.64\00:24:42.18 with His righteousness. 00:24:42.21\00:24:43.58 We can't keep sinning against God 00:24:43.61\00:24:45.48 and think that we are in right standing with God 00:24:45.51\00:24:47.35 just because we confess. 00:24:47.38\00:24:48.72 Our confession was not genuine. Right. 00:24:48.75\00:24:50.19 So it's not a cover up. It's not a cover up. 00:24:50.22\00:24:52.49 It's a 100% transformation. It's a transformation. 00:24:52.52\00:24:55.22 It's not a modification, 00:24:55.26\00:24:56.59 it's an absolute new creature in Christ. 00:24:56.62\00:24:59.86 Now Romans 8 brings out a balancing point to it. 00:24:59.89\00:25:03.06 It says it right there in verses 1-4, 00:25:03.10\00:25:06.53 "There is therefore now no condemnation to them 00:25:06.57\00:25:09.24 which are in Christ Jesus." 00:25:09.27\00:25:10.61 When a man comes to Christ and he confesses his sins 00:25:10.64\00:25:12.74 and accepts the atonement made on his behalf 00:25:12.77\00:25:15.28 as his only hope in this life or the future life 00:25:15.31\00:25:17.75 that individual is pardoned, literally they are pardoned. 00:25:17.78\00:25:20.68 And God wipes away the foul record 00:25:20.72\00:25:22.48 and He lays upon them His robe of righteousness. 00:25:22.52\00:25:24.79 It is upon them and they are clean before God. 00:25:24.82\00:25:27.22 Well, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them 00:25:27.26\00:25:30.53 which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, 00:25:30.56\00:25:34.06 but after the Spirit." 00:25:34.10\00:25:35.43 We got to break that down. 00:25:35.46\00:25:36.80 What is it mean to walk after the spirit? 00:25:36.83\00:25:38.80 So watch this, "For the law of the Spirit of life 00:25:38.83\00:25:41.97 in Christ Jesus hath made me free 00:25:42.00\00:25:43.81 from the law of sin and death. 00:25:43.84\00:25:45.17 For what the law could not do, 00:25:45.21\00:25:47.51 in that it was weak through the flesh." 00:25:47.54\00:25:49.11 Us trying to keep God's law ought be righteous 00:25:49.14\00:25:51.55 in and of ourselves according to our own flesh, it says, 00:25:51.58\00:25:54.02 "God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh 00:25:54.05\00:25:57.22 and for sin condemn sin in the flesh," 00:25:57.25\00:26:00.19 watch verse 4, 00:26:00.22\00:26:01.56 "That the righteousness of the law 00:26:01.59\00:26:04.19 might be fulfilled in us 00:26:04.23\00:26:07.73 who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit." 00:26:07.76\00:26:10.47 So what is it mean to walk after the spirit? 00:26:10.50\00:26:13.37 It means that the righteousness of God's law 00:26:13.40\00:26:16.60 can now be fulfilled in us. 00:26:16.64\00:26:20.68 That means the life that I live now will be a life 00:26:20.71\00:26:23.85 that is in harmony with God's law. 00:26:23.88\00:26:26.82 Or let me put it in another way, 00:26:26.85\00:26:28.18 in harmony with God's righteousness. 00:26:28.22\00:26:30.65 But it's God that's working in us 00:26:30.69\00:26:33.76 to willing to do of His good pleasure. 00:26:33.79\00:26:35.49 So true righteousness by faith is, 00:26:35.52\00:26:37.36 I love the word that you use, 'dependence'. 00:26:37.39\00:26:39.49 It's a total dependence of God not only for pardon 00:26:39.53\00:26:42.66 but also for power to live a new life. 00:26:42.70\00:26:44.87 At no point is the life is an individual's life 00:26:44.90\00:26:48.50 moving from submission. 00:26:48.54\00:26:50.34 It always stays in the state of submission before the Lord. 00:26:50.37\00:26:53.34 Lord, I need you for pardon 00:26:53.38\00:26:54.98 and I also need you for power to love the new life in Christ. 00:26:55.01\00:26:59.41 So, absolutely powerful, you know, 00:26:59.45\00:27:02.75 mind-blowing perspectives and points. 00:27:02.78\00:27:05.22 And this is essentially, it's almost like, 00:27:05.25\00:27:07.19 I'm re-living the moments when I first discovered this. 00:27:07.22\00:27:10.86 Because this is what gave me the freedom 00:27:10.89\00:27:14.26 to break away from the slavery of self-righteousness, 00:27:14.30\00:27:18.23 the slavery of earthly culture 00:27:18.27\00:27:20.54 and in my case hip-hop culture, 00:27:20.57\00:27:22.57 and opened me up to the truth and righteousness 00:27:22.60\00:27:25.97 that only God can provide. 00:27:26.01\00:27:27.68 So we understand, and this is important point 00:27:27.71\00:27:29.88 we don't want to overshadow it, 00:27:29.91\00:27:31.25 that the first step is admitting that we are wrong 00:27:31.28\00:27:34.72 and that's something that many of us struggle with 00:27:34.75\00:27:36.95 even today. 00:27:36.99\00:27:38.35 So we're gonna talk more about this 'cause this is not over... 00:27:38.39\00:27:41.29 No. Far from it. 00:27:41.32\00:27:42.66 By any stretch this is not over. 00:27:42.69\00:27:44.16 So when we look at this idea 00:27:44.19\00:27:45.69 that God has a plan for our problem 00:27:45.73\00:27:48.06 and that He wants to bring us out 00:27:48.10\00:27:50.23 of our sinful condition into His righteousness 00:27:50.27\00:27:53.97 and allow us to live the life that Christ essentially lived 00:27:54.00\00:27:58.01 while He was walking the earth is a blessing 00:27:58.04\00:28:00.11 that we all need to acknowledge. 00:28:00.14\00:28:01.48 And remember Proverbs 2:6, 00:28:01.51\00:28:03.68 "It is the Lord that gives wisdom 00:28:03.71\00:28:05.58 and out of His mouth comes knowledge and understating." 00:28:05.61\00:28:09.08 God bless. 00:28:09.12\00:28:10.45
