And we saw that the study shows

that the great controversy
is between Christ and Satan.

But it went from heaven

and it
transitioned to the earth.

And the Bible
said, "Woe to them,

that dwell on the earth,

for the devil has come down
now on to us having great wrath,

because he knows he
has but a short time".

We did not choose to enlist
in this world but we are in it

and the reason the
reason why we are in it

is because Satan can no longer
get access to God directly,

but he can still get
excess to God's heart

things that we called righteous,

were the things that
the Bible calls wicked.

change needs to take place.

that God had taught them,

had blessed them with.

And we saw that
there were three things

that Nebuchadnezzar used

in initially, in
the Daniel, chapter 1.

The first one was he wanted
to change their education.

The second one, he wanted
to also change their names.

But then we saw on the third

that he also
introduced a diet to them.

And in him
introducing this diet,

this was such a
major issue to the Daniel

that he found himself having
to openly protest against it

and refuse to
partake of the kings meal,

or to drink his wine.

And yesterday,
we were going over

how, you know, the
appetite is something

that is very
important in the eyes of God

and then in the
eyes of scripture.

And we were looking at

the importance of
controlling ourselves

as it relates to appetite.

In Hip-Hop culture
today, in urban lifestyle,

many a times, we
kind of eat what we want

and do what we want,

depending on the disciplines,
there are some areas

where there's a little bit
more discipline than others.

But generally
speaking, in our world today,

people kind of do
what they want to do,

belly growls for it.

much that the word of God,

it relates to this subjects.

of having
temperance or self control,

as it relates to the
subject of the appetite.

some very powerful statements

from the word of God

showing that God
took this so seriously

to the point that He said that,

control over appetite,

controlled by appetite,

it would be better to
put a knife to our throats.

I mean, what strong language
that the Bible would use

to talk about the importance
of controlling appetite.

And we were looking at why.

And we saw that
one of the reasons why,

one of the greats reasons why

is because we serve the
law of God with our minds

and what we eat and drink
directly affects our minds.

with Adam and Eve

and how they failed
on the point of appetite,

and they failed to the
test of the lust of the flesh,

the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life

and then we looked at
Jesus, that second Adam.

And when Jesus came,

Jesus was also tempted
on the same three points,

lust of the
flesh, lust of the eyes

and pride of life

and it was all
based on appetite,

but Jesus had the victory.

building on that point

of this challenge,

this trial of appetite,

but how Christ got victory

and through Christ, we
can get victory as well

Bible shows us things

about our selves and our bodies
that we need to understand.

randomly here and there.

and we saw that the
Bible is giving the evidence

necessary to realize
the importance of appetite.

However, the Bible continues

in the New Testimony,

I want to, you know
direct our attention to a text

that kind of
establishes a core principle,

as it relates to
our bodies, our minds

and our own
spiritual development

and spiritual health.

So I want to direct
our attention there.

1 Corinthians Chapter 6

Paul, the apostle
Paul is speaking here

to the church at Corinth
00:06:18.51\00:06:19.84
and we know that
church of Corinth

had various problems and
controversies and issues.
00:06:21.24\00:06:24.38
1 Corinthians 6:19 and 20.
00:06:24.41\00:06:27.78
It says," What?
00:06:27.82\00:06:29.55
Know ye not that your body
is the temple of the Holy Ghost
00:06:29.58\00:06:33.15
which is in you,
00:06:33.19\00:06:34.52
which ye have of God,
and ye are not your own?
00:06:34.56\00:06:36.93
For ye are bought with a price.
00:06:36.96\00:06:39.59
Therefore
glorify God in your body,

and in your
spirit, which are God's."

It was a very interesting scene
if you will where you had now

instead of only Jews,
you know, cultural Jews.

Expecting the Messiah,
you now had a massive amount

after the
crucifixion in what we refer to

as the day of
Pentecost in Acts Chapter 2,
00:07:04.05\00:07:06.15
you have a massive
influx now of non Jews becoming
00:07:06.19\00:07:11.06
what we refer to
now as Christians,
00:07:11.09\00:07:13.29
followers of Christ.
00:07:13.33\00:07:15.00
And as these, you
know, basically heathenistic,
00:07:15.03\00:07:18.87
Greco-Roman individuals
from all over the globe,
00:07:18.90\00:07:21.80
and then various other cultures
now come into the "church,"
00:07:21.84\00:07:26.41
they are bringing
some of their customs
00:07:26.44\00:07:28.64
and their culture into the mix.
00:07:28.68\00:07:31.25
And one of the predominant
thoughts or ideologies,

world views if you will,
or something called dualism,

it's a fancy word
but it is very simple,

they basically
thought that every thing,
00:07:43.32\00:07:45.86
you know, they
believed in the spirit
00:07:45.89\00:07:47.66
and they
believed in the physical,
00:07:47.70\00:07:49.23
the physical, what is
referred to metaphysical,
00:07:49.26\00:07:51.53
beyond the physical, right.
00:07:51.57\00:07:53.57
And we get this
from the philosophers,
00:07:53.60\00:07:56.10
Aristotle,
Plato, Socrates, right.
00:07:56.14\00:07:58.67
And essentially, they looked
at the spirit as completely
00:07:58.71\00:08:04.55
and 100 percent separate
from the body, the physical
00:08:04.58\00:08:09.58
and that the body simply a shell
00:08:09.62\00:08:12.09
that was housing the spirit.
00:08:12.12\00:08:14.79
And as soon as
the body would die,

the spirit would be released

into some other
existence, you know.

And then other people,

philosophers had
different thoughts

as to where you
were go and what you do?

But
nevertheless, in the mind set,

in this world view,
everything physical,

whether that is a table,

or that's the
human body was evil.

It was corrupt, it was
wicked, it was perishable.

But everything
spirit was eternal

and good and right and "holy"

so this concept, you
know, dominated the culture,

pretty much the cultural

where all of this
activity is going on,

and this influx of
Christianity is taking place.

And so they are
coming in, accepting Christ,

and believing somehow

that if you serve
Christ with your spirit,

it doesn't matter
what you do with your body.

And you know, that's interesting

because there are
religious movements today

even under the
title of Christianity

that had the very same view
that you are sharing right now,

presently even here in 2013,

where individuals
actually will think

it's not really
about the physical tangible

but it's more about
the spiritual "eternal."

And, so people say,
"Oh, it doesn't matter,

what I do with my body,
my heart is right with God"

concept is ancient, right.

In fact, we traced it there,

kind of back to
the Garden of Eden

and that controversy there.

But nevertheless,
this dominated the scene

and Paul is
having to address this

in Galatia, in
Corinth, in Ephesus.

The same thing is happening

because you have
these large Metropolises,

these large cities
like, imagine a New York

or, you know, or
London, or Paris, Chicago,

these places are,
you know, in existence
00:09:54.99\00:09:58.76
to a certain
degree in ancient times,
00:09:58.79\00:10:00.60
in the city of Corinth, Ephesus,
00:10:00.63\00:10:02.10
these large metropolises
00:10:02.13\00:10:03.47
where people from all
over the world are gathered,

commerce, money,
everything is flowing there,
00:10:05.50\00:10:08.44
and these church are growing,
thousands of people coming in,
00:10:08.47\00:10:11.67
thousands of
people are coming in
00:10:11.71\00:10:13.24
and these
compromises are being made.
00:10:13.27\00:10:15.81
And so Paul is having
to hear these stories,

and then send letters
to correct and address.

So he is saying here that,

"Do not you know that your body
is the temple of the Holy ghost

which is in you,
which is you have of God,

and you are not your own.

For you are bought with a price.

Therefore,
glorify God in your body

spirit, which are God's."

So he is saying, basically,
because you are not your own,

and he's talking about
the sacrifice that was made,

the blood of lamb
through Jesus Christ

from damnation and wickedness.

In Jeremiah 79 and all
these verses we've looked at,

sinned and fall short."

You are worthy of death,
but the God has saved you.

He has
purchased you if you will.

You are slave sold into
slavery and He bought you,

and redeemed

adopted you into His family.

Because He has done that,
you don't have the liberty

to do whatever you
want to do, with your body.

That's right. Nor your spirit.

And so he has to
stress this concept

over and over again.

So what this
text is saying that,

we as the followers of
Christ, we have been purchased,

not just by the
redemption of the Son of God,

but by creation.

God has the
authority to tell us what to do

with our bodies that
He has created by creation

and in a following
condition because He saved us,

authority to tells us,

what to do now, even now

because He has adopted
us back into His family.

Now this becomes
very, very important then

because a lot of
people think that,

it's amazing how we can
take upon the name of the God

but yet, we don't manifest

the characteristics
that He expects of us.

And He also imparts power
for us to live this lifestyle.

And here it is
that you are introducing

to a lot of people what
would be paradigm shift,

it's like, wait a minute.

You mean that, that it's
not just all about "spirit"

but I need to also
be mindful of my body,

and be a good stewardship,
steward over my body as well.

And this is how Paul is,
he is reminding them of this,

or he is informing them,

"Don't you know that
your body is the temple?"

separates, body, spirit.

And spirit. That's right. Yeah.

It's like he is
not making the sound

like that they are just
one, but they are separate

but, yet God expects
us to stewards over both.

Now considering this on
the point of appetite then,

what is God's
view when it comes to

what we put
inside of the temple,

the temple of our bodies?

I mean, what does
God say about that

then if we go
ahead and just say,

well, I'm still gonna put
whatever I want in my system,

irregardless of the fact

that I realize I've been bought?

Because, think about it.

If something is bought,

that means that
whoever bought is the owner,

not the item itself.

that on a temporary level.

and I just take it.

I am taking what
someone else bought.

Now anyone with
common sense would know

that's called stealing.

And the eight commandment
says, "Thou shall not steal."

commandments, it is sin.

individual takes their body

and when God gives instruction

individual chooses to say,
