to the experience
of Daniel in Babylon

and what we see taking place
in our urban communities today

and we even saw some things

as it pertains to the
effects and influences

of the hip hop culture

and how it very much ties
into some of the influences

that even Babylon was displaying
00:01:06.46\00:01:08.33
during the days of Daniel.
00:01:08.36\00:01:10.00
We notice something
very powerful about Daniel.
00:01:10.03\00:01:12.57
Daniel was one
that was a young man.
00:01:12.60\00:01:14.74
He was used powerfully by God
00:01:14.77\00:01:16.67
and he was very
faithful, very temperate.
00:01:16.71\00:01:19.07
He was a man of priority.
00:01:19.11\00:01:20.48
And this was in
Daniel as a youth.
00:01:20.51\00:01:23.18
And so it is that we
saw that this is something
00:01:23.21\00:01:25.55
God wants to put into the hearts
00:01:25.58\00:01:27.35
of His young people today,
00:01:27.38\00:01:28.72
even young people who are
in disadvantaged situations.
00:01:28.75\00:01:31.89
Daniel was a slave.
00:01:31.92\00:01:33.56
And yet, Daniel was still able
00:01:33.59\00:01:35.16
to demonstrate
faithfulness to God.
00:01:35.19\00:01:37.13
And so it is that youth
today in urban communities,
00:01:37.16\00:01:39.96
where there's a lot of
disadvantages around us,
00:01:40.00\00:01:42.66
we find also that that
is not an excuse for us
00:01:42.70\00:01:45.90
to have to give in to the traps
00:01:45.93\00:01:47.60
and the tricks of the devil
00:01:47.64\00:01:49.34
and to have to surrender
00:01:49.37\00:01:50.71
to the popular
things that are around us.

And so we find that there
were these beautiful parallels

that were shown through
Daniel as he exercise wisdom.

And in Daniel Chapter 1,

specifically
versus 17 through 20,
00:01:59.98\00:02:02.18
we saw that Daniel was one
00:02:02.22\00:02:04.19
who was willing
to stand for His God
00:02:04.22\00:02:06.02
and God
certainly stood up for him.
00:02:06.05\00:02:07.76
And as a result of
that Daniel was faithful

and he was mightily used
and God blessed him with wisdom
00:02:10.33\00:02:13.43
because Daniel was
obedient to the will of God.

But we also find that

there's another aspect of wisdom

that we wanted to introduce

because we believe that
this is gonna be very effective

in the hearts of those
today in our urban societies,

those who are going
through the various trials

and tribulations of urban life,

but also, even those
who sometimes feel the pull

of the hip hop and RnB culture

and how it pulls them to
say well, here is the solution

where we have seen
already in previous programs,

it's not really
a solution at all.

And therefore, we're gonna
look at some practical lessons

from the story of
Daniel and his use of wisdom

and how it helped
him to overcome the nets

and surrounding
him to entrap him.

another dynamic of wisdom

in the Book of Daniel.

we're kind of
transitioning to Daniel 2.

So as soon as we see the story

that we talked
about in Daniel Chapter 1

and then we see the
reward that God gives to Daniel

and his associates
for taking that stand,

God honors them
and gives them skill

and understanding and wisdom,
and all visions and dreams.

All of a sudden now we see
Nebuchadnezzar in Chapter 2,

the king, the
ruler, the strongest,

the mightiest ruler on
the planet at this time,

having a dream.

And we're gonna kind
of get a snapshot of that,

and we're reading all the way

Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams,

where with his
spirit was troubled,

and his sleep brake from him.

Then the king
commanded to call the magicians,

and the
astrologers, and the sorcerers,

for to shew the king his dreams.

The Chaldeans answered

that can shew the king's matter:

king, lord, nor ruler,

that asked such
things at any magician,

or astrologer, or Chaldean.

And it is a rare thing
that the king requireth,

and there is none other

that can shew
it before the king,

except the gods, whose
dwelling is not with flesh."

Now there's a lot to talk about.
00:06:13.13\00:06:15.07
Oh, yeah.
00:06:15.10\00:06:16.44
Nebuchadnezzar has a dream.
00:06:16.47\00:06:18.44
This dream, perhaps reoccurring,
00:06:18.47\00:06:20.61
gets to the point where
he can't sleep at night.
00:06:20.64\00:06:23.81
But the problem is, as
many of us have experienced,
00:06:23.85\00:06:26.28
when we have dreams sometimes,
we know we had a dream.
00:06:26.31\00:06:29.35
We know that it was vivid
and we can almost believe that
00:06:29.38\00:06:32.92
we experienced it
00:06:32.95\00:06:34.42
but we can't
remember all the details,
00:06:34.46\00:06:36.29
we can't quite
explain it to another person.
00:06:36.32\00:06:38.66
So Nebuchadnezzar finds
himself in a similar situation.

So he has the dream,
he can't remember it.
00:06:41.53\00:06:43.97
But he desperately is impressed
00:06:44.00\00:06:46.33
that he needs to
know what it means.
00:06:46.37\00:06:48.50
It's causing him to
lose sleep literally,
00:06:48.54\00:06:51.84
he's having
anxiety attacks perhaps.
00:06:51.87\00:06:55.88
So he calls in
all of his counsel,
00:06:55.91\00:06:57.85
all of his
counselors, his cabinet,
00:06:57.88\00:06:59.45
his wise men, his
astrologers, the magicians
00:06:59.48\00:07:01.98
or whatever you
want to call them,
00:07:02.02\00:07:03.35
he calls them in and says,
00:07:03.39\00:07:05.12
"I need you to
tell me this dream
00:07:05.15\00:07:06.89
and give me the interpretation."
00:07:06.92\00:07:09.16
And they want no part of it.
00:07:09.19\00:07:11.33
They're trying to buy
time, they are saying,
00:07:11.36\00:07:12.79
"Well, just tell us
what the dream was."
00:07:12.83\00:07:14.16
And they can come up,
00:07:14.20\00:07:15.53
they can
manufacture an interpretation,
00:07:15.56\00:07:16.97
just like these
guys, you know, I know,
00:07:17.00\00:07:18.57
I remember years ago
they used to have shows
00:07:18.60\00:07:20.80
with the psychics on the show.
00:07:20.84\00:07:23.00
And they were just kind of pull,
00:07:23.04\00:07:24.41
they were masters at
kind of pulling facts
00:07:24.44\00:07:26.57
and information out of people.
00:07:26.61\00:07:28.34
And then they
could craft a story
00:07:28.38\00:07:30.88
and it would kind
of impress the people
00:07:30.91\00:07:33.05
and they say, "They
must be talking to spirits."
00:07:33.08\00:07:34.62
Right.
00:07:34.65\00:07:37.25
This impossible task
00:07:37.29\00:07:39.32
according to the wise
men and the astrologers,

they said, this is ridiculous.

They didn't say quite like that

but they were being very careful
00:07:44.46\00:07:45.79
because the king warned
00:07:45.83\00:07:47.16
that if they don't
tell him the dream,
00:07:47.20\00:07:48.53
and the interpretation,
they're gonna die.

That's right. Automatically.

So they're again, just saying,

"Please, nobody has asked
anything like this of any man.

It's impossible for
us to tell you the dream

and the interpretation.

We need you to tell the dream

and then we can give
you the interpretation.

There's no nobody that
knows this information,

except the gods
that are not with us."

That's right.

And it's
amazing because we find,

as we get ready to progress
throughout this chapter,

we've seen that once again,

it's not just
simply the wise men,
00:08:14.36\00:08:17.99
the so-called wise
men and astrologers
00:08:18.03\00:08:20.53
and all these
servants of the king
00:08:20.56\00:08:22.00
that are incapable
of providing an answer
00:08:22.03\00:08:25.57
and not able to
teach or explain the dream.
00:08:25.60\00:08:28.87
But it's interesting
00:08:28.90\00:08:30.24
that when
Nebuchadnezzar made it clear,
00:08:30.27\00:08:32.34
if you don't do it,
here's the consequence,
00:08:32.37\00:08:34.38
which of course was death.
00:08:34.41\00:08:35.74
But we find that that
death was not something
00:08:35.78\00:08:37.88
that was just going to
come to all of the magicians
00:08:37.91\00:08:41.02
and astrologers,
00:08:41.05\00:08:42.38
it also was gonna
fall upon somebody else.
00:08:42.42\00:08:44.69
And I want us to talk about that
00:08:44.72\00:08:46.05
because we're gonna see
how this all can tie back into
00:08:46.09\00:08:48.39
how we see society
00:08:48.42\00:08:49.76
and things happening
in our world even today.

So we're gonna go on and look at

some more versus
in Daniel Chapter 2.

Oh, yeah.
00:08:55.93\00:08:57.27
And we're gonna
understand that because Daniel

and his three
associates were now included,
00:09:01.27\00:09:04.31
remember, they
passed the examination,
00:09:04.34\00:09:06.17
they went through the university
00:09:06.21\00:09:07.91
and they became
part of this cabinet,
00:09:07.94\00:09:09.64
they became part of
the counselors of the king,
00:09:09.68\00:09:12.58
the wise men if you will,
they became part of that group.
00:09:12.61\00:09:15.28
So now they are
included in this death decree
00:09:15.32\00:09:18.12
that the king levies
against the wise men of Babylon.
00:09:18.15\00:09:20.96
And so I want to
go down to verse 12,
00:09:20.99\00:09:24.63
and it kind of summarizes
what the king was dealing with.
00:09:24.66\00:09:27.26
So Daniel Chapter 2
and looking at verse 12.
00:09:27.30\00:09:30.30
It says, "For this cause
00:09:30.33\00:09:32.37
the king was
angry and very furious,
00:09:32.40\00:09:35.67
and commanded to destroy
all the wise men of Babylon."
00:09:35.70\00:09:41.18
And verse 13 says,
"And the decree went forth
00:09:41.21\00:09:43.75
that the wise
men should be slain;
00:09:43.78\00:09:45.68
and they sought Daniel
and his fellows to be slain."
00:09:45.71\00:09:50.09
So Daniel gets the
knock at the door if you will.
00:09:50.12\00:09:53.15
Yup.
00:09:53.19\00:09:54.52
And it's somebody
there to arrest and kill him
00:09:54.56\00:09:57.73
and execute him.
00:09:57.76\00:09:59.09
He has no idea what's happening.

That's right.

And, you know,
because perhaps at this point

he's a junior
member of this counsel.

Right.

And all of that, the experts

and those with
longevity in the counsel

are called to the king,

his highest advisors

and these young men who
just came out of training,

you know, are not
included in that elite group.

But they get a knock on the door
00:10:19.35\00:10:20.82
and now they are
destined to be killed.

That's right.
00:10:26.05\00:10:27.39
So Daniel
intervenes, he tries to buy time
00:10:27.42\00:10:29.99
and he's given some leeway.
00:10:30.03\00:10:33.80
He tells the king, you
know, he's asking what happened.

He had a
relationship with the man
00:10:35.60\00:10:37.63
who came to arrest
and have him executed.

And he begins to
dialogue with that man

and it gets him to buy time.

He goes to the king
and says, just give us time
00:10:45.41\00:10:47.51
and we will give the
dream and the interpretation.

We'll figure out
what's happening.

Now here's something
that-- cause what we want to do

is we want to pull
something out of this right now

because one of the things
I've learnt about the gospel,

one of the things I've learned
about studying the Bible,

growing up, you know,
00:11:01.32\00:11:02.96
especially when I'm, entrenched
00:11:02.99\00:11:04.69
in something that
to me is powerful,

hip hop music, hip hop
culture is very powerful.

It's attracted,
it's magnetic, right.
00:11:09.83\00:11:11.93
So what happens is
00:11:11.97\00:11:13.30
you get used to
feeling and sensing power.
00:11:13.34\00:11:16.27
When you hear the music
and the thump of the beat
00:11:16.30\00:11:18.14
and what you, that's
the feeling of power.
00:11:18.17\00:11:20.61
When you watch
somebody and they're rhyming
00:11:20.64\00:11:22.34
and they're able to take words
00:11:22.38\00:11:23.71
from right to the
left and connect it,
00:11:23.75\00:11:25.35
that's powerful.

And it's a power that
a person can experience.

And that's one of the reasons

why hip hop
culture is so magnetic.

It's because there's a
power that's involved in it.

The question is whether
it's a power of good or evil.

Yes. But
nevertheless, it is power.

When it comes to the gospel,

the gospel,
remember Romans 1:16?

"For I'm not ashamed
of the gospel of Christ

for it is the power of God."

God wanted the gospel to
be more than lip service.

So therefore, God always wanted

in the
expressions of gospel truth

that there's a practicality,
00:11:54.24\00:11:55.94
there's something
that I can practice

from all these
theoretical teachings.

So when we are
going through this,

we're always looking for
that practical application,

practical application,
how can I live this experience

that I'm reading
about in the Bible.

Because once we can do that,
we can experience that power

and we'll find that
that power is greater

than the previous power.

So it is that when
you look at Daniel,

when you look at
verses 17 and 18,

and you see how
Daniel responded,

I'm, when I read the
Bible, my imagination runs.

I start to think
like what was that like.

Somebody, when he
comes to your door

and says, "Look,
there's been a decree
00:12:28.04\00:12:30.21
given to all of the wise men
00:12:30.25\00:12:32.01
as the result of
the not answering

the king's request
and they got to die
00:12:33.42\00:12:34.88
and you're one of them."

Now in the natural
world, I'm thinking that

if someone had somebody
knock on their door like that,

out of nowhere,

you'll probably gonna
respond something to, "What?"

Yeah, fear.

Yeah, this fear and
shocking everything else

but here goes Daniel,

it would seem as if he's
almost calm, cool and collected.

And Daniel has a confidence
in the God in which he serves

and while he's given this most
incredible decree information

that I'm about to die,

he says, "Tell the king that
give me a little bit of time."

You know, I mean,
there's a confidence

and this confidence

had to be
developed before the crisis.
