Once it was just a simple British Colonial Trading 00:00:36.30\00:00:40.14 Post, but today its morphed into a thriving global finance 00:00:40.17\00:00:45.07 Commerce and transport hub. 00:00:45.11\00:00:47.41 It's described as one of Asia's economic tigers 00:00:47.44\00:00:51.65 and what a tiger it is with a population of just six million. 00:00:51.68\00:00:57.45 It ranks as the world's most technologically ready nation 00:00:57.49\00:01:01.92 the city with the best investment potential, 00:01:01.96\00:01:04.89 the second most competitive country, the third largest 00:01:04.93\00:01:08.70 financial center, third largest oil refining and trading center, 00:01:08.73\00:01:13.57 and the world's busiest port. 00:01:13.60\00:01:16.54 Wow! In just over sixty years since gaining independence 00:01:16.57\00:01:21.64 from Britain in 1963, Singapore has become one of the most 00:01:21.68\00:01:26.61 prosperous countries in the world, no wonder 00:01:26.65\00:01:29.72 it's all action here, is such a bustling metropolis. 00:01:29.75\00:01:33.56 But it's in the area of technology and digital expansion 00:01:33.59\00:01:38.59 that Singapore really excels. 00:01:38.63\00:01:41.26 It's a city best prepared to adopt and integrate 00:01:41.30\00:01:45.43 new digital technologies and innovation. 00:01:45.47\00:01:48.57 It has come up tops in a survey that looks at how ready 00:01:48.60\00:01:53.38 economies are to maximize the potential of the 00:01:53.41\00:01:56.85 digital revolution. Singapore is on course to becoming 00:01:56.88\00:02:01.95 a digital nation and it seems that's the future for all of us. 00:02:01.98\00:02:07.36 Our societies are all moving in the same direction 00:02:07.39\00:02:11.66 and it's not surprising when you consider that new technology 00:02:11.69\00:02:15.90 is doubling every two years and that it's being utilized 00:02:15.93\00:02:20.17 more and more. 00:02:20.20\00:02:21.60 Last year, the technology industry generated the 00:02:21.64\00:02:26.24 world economy is about five and a half trillion dollars 00:02:26.27\00:02:30.51 and that's not surprising because so many of us 00:02:30.55\00:02:35.45 are part of it and use this technology. 00:02:35.48\00:02:38.35 Over 5 billion people use the internet 00:02:38.39\00:02:43.26 about 2/3's of the world's population, 00:02:43.29\00:02:46.36 nearly 200,000,000 users joined the internet last year, 00:02:46.39\00:02:51.53 that's over half a million users every day. 00:02:51.57\00:02:55.47 There are 2 billion websites and 60 billion web pages 00:02:55.50\00:03:00.38 on the internet, Google receives 100,000 searches every second. 00:03:00.41\00:03:06.45 There are over 7 billion mobile phones in the world. 00:03:06.48\00:03:10.59 Over 85% of the world's population has a mobile phone, 00:03:10.62\00:03:15.26 added together the world spends 12 billion hours using 00:03:15.29\00:03:20.43 social media every day. 00:03:20.46\00:03:22.40 Four hundred hours of new video are uploaded to YouTube 00:03:22.43\00:03:26.80 every minute, Facebook has 3 billion active users, 00:03:26.84\00:03:31.97 nearly 40% of the world's population use it every day. 00:03:32.01\00:03:36.44 On the average, we spend about 7 hours a day on screens 00:03:36.48\00:03:42.08 and for many people its significantly more than that. 00:03:42.12\00:03:46.42 These statistics are mind- blowing and a reminder 00:03:46.45\00:03:51.23 that we're all becoming more and more tightly integrated 00:03:51.26\00:03:54.90 into the new Digital World and utilizing it in our 00:03:54.93\00:03:58.87 daily activities, it's convenient and it makes life so 00:03:58.90\00:04:04.11 much easier and interesting, we're locked in, we're truly 00:04:04.14\00:04:09.81 living in a world of screens, but there's a dark side to our 00:04:09.84\00:04:15.02 emersion in the digital world and the increasing use of 00:04:15.05\00:04:18.72 screens with all the convenience and benefits come a dangerous 00:04:18.75\00:04:23.93 downside. With the increase in the use of digital technology 00:04:23.96\00:04:28.66 and exposure to screens has come a corresponding increase in 00:04:28.70\00:04:33.60 depression and other mental illnesses, anxiety, obesity, 00:04:33.64\00:04:38.27 loneliness, isolation, reduced empathy, and reduced 00:04:38.31\00:04:43.51 attention spans. Excessive use of our screens is taking 00:04:43.55\00:04:48.95 a massive toll on our health and well-being. 00:04:48.98\00:04:52.42 But providentially there's an ancient remedy that's 00:04:52.45\00:04:57.43 tried and tested in our modern world that can protect us 00:04:57.46\00:05:01.00 from these dangers and the good news is that its readily 00:05:01.03\00:05:05.40 available to all of us. Join me on a journey 00:05:05.43\00:05:08.90 into the world of digital technology and then 00:05:08.94\00:05:12.27 back through time to discover this wonder cure. 00:05:12.31\00:05:16.68 Singapore is well-known as a food haven 00:05:32.06\00:05:35.36 a real food-lovers paradise. 00:05:35.40\00:05:37.93 This city/state is a melting pot of cultures 00:05:37.97\00:05:41.94 and this is reflected in its cuisine, 00:05:41.97\00:05:44.67 there's a blend of mélange Chinese, Indonesian, 00:05:44.71\00:05:48.11 Indian and western influences. The depth and diversity of 00:05:48.14\00:05:53.05 food available here is astonishing, 00:05:53.08\00:05:55.38 there's something to suit everyone's taste 00:05:55.58\00:05:58.72 there are restaurants hawker stalls, food courts, 00:05:58.75\00:06:03.02 and street food vendors all offering a multitude of 00:06:03.22\00:06:07.53 but there is one thing all of these eateries have in common. 00:06:08.83\00:06:13.23 whether it's a Michelin style restaurant on Orchard Road, 00:06:13.27\00:06:17.07 or a small diner in little India, technology has 00:06:17.11\00:06:21.68 dramatically changed the way they do business. 00:06:21.71\00:06:24.18 So, let's give it a try and see how it works. 00:06:24.21\00:06:28.62 Once we've decided to check out a particular restaurant 00:06:28.65\00:06:32.79 we make a reservation through a mobile app. 00:06:32.82\00:06:35.62 When we arrive and are seated we use electronic menus 00:06:35.66\00:06:40.46 on a tablet, swiping through various pictures of the 00:06:40.50\00:06:44.13 items offered before placing our orders on the screen. 00:06:44.17\00:06:48.10 Then once the food is prepared, its delivered to our table 00:06:48.14\00:06:52.97 by a mobile robot and after we've finished the delicious 00:06:53.01\00:06:57.61 dishes prepared, we make the payment by using our 00:06:57.65\00:07:01.58 mobile phone, these are increasing scenes in Singapore. 00:07:01.62\00:07:07.12 Digital technology is changing the way businesses operate. 00:07:07.16\00:07:11.89 Websites, apps, social media, cloud computing, big data, 00:07:11.93\00:07:20.14 tablets, e-commerce, these technologies are among the 00:07:20.17\00:07:24.81 fastest moving trends that are changing the way we do business. 00:07:24.84\00:07:28.91 Not just here in Singapore, but right around the world. 00:07:28.94\00:07:32.75 This isn't the world of the future, it's the world of today 00:07:32.78\00:07:37.42 and in order to operate and participate actively in society 00:07:37.45\00:07:42.02 we've got to embrace it. 00:07:42.06\00:07:44.03 So, what about our personal lives? 00:07:44.06\00:07:47.96 How do we cope with all of this? 00:07:48.00\00:07:50.10 As we know, screens are everywhere, 00:07:50.13\00:07:53.34 they are all around us, in fact from the moment we wake up 00:07:53.37\00:07:57.44 we reach for screens, they are with us virtually all day 00:07:57.47\00:08:01.21 until finally we put them down when we go to sleep. 00:08:01.24\00:08:04.91 But even then, we make sure they're still close to us, 00:08:04.95\00:08:09.22 within reach. There are about 7 billion smartphones 00:08:09.25\00:08:14.46 in the world today, that's nearly enough to provide 00:08:14.49\00:08:18.49 one for every person on earth. 00:08:18.53\00:08:20.00 Smartphones are the most widely used and sold piece 00:08:20.03\00:08:24.27 of consumer technology today. This one small screen 00:08:24.30\00:08:29.37 has changed our lives forever. 00:08:29.40\00:08:32.34 The mobile phone is considered to be one of the most important 00:08:32.37\00:08:37.65 human inventions, it's become such an important part 00:08:37.68\00:08:41.25 of our daily lives that it seems impossible to carry out our 00:08:41.28\00:08:46.35 everyday chores and responsibilities without 00:08:46.39\00:08:49.26 our phones. 00:08:49.29\00:08:51.06 So, let's look at the small screen that's being the real 00:08:51.09\00:08:54.60 game changer in society, the smartphone. 00:08:54.63\00:08:57.83 It's radically changed the way we do things 00:08:57.87\00:09:01.07 with its many apps and functions. 00:09:01.10\00:09:03.07 Does anyone remember the old clock radio that used to sit 00:09:03.10\00:09:08.04 proudly beside the bed? 00:09:08.08\00:09:09.58 It was the alarm clock that told us to get up. 00:09:09.61\00:09:13.05 and the radio that gave us the important news headlines 00:09:13.08\00:09:17.02 of the day. 00:09:17.89\00:09:19.22 What about the street directory? It was needed to find your way 00:09:19.25\00:09:22.46 in the city? And then, when did you last write a letter 00:09:22.49\00:09:26.33 and buy a stamp at the post office? 00:09:26.36\00:09:28.40 Then there's the newspaper, the camera, the video camera, 00:09:28.43\00:09:33.30 all now features in your smart phone. 00:09:33.34\00:09:35.80 How about the calculator? your watch? bank passbooks? 00:09:35.84\00:09:40.71 a torch, the weather report? They've all been replaced 00:09:40.74\00:09:44.81 by your smartphone. And then do you remember CDs? 00:09:44.85\00:09:48.38 That's how we listened to music but not anymore. 00:09:48.42\00:09:51.89 Now, when it comes to playing music, we use our smartphones. 00:09:51.92\00:09:56.79 Once, people used to watch Hollywood blockbusters on DVDs 00:09:56.83\00:10:01.43 but not anymore. Movies and watching television programs 00:10:01.46\00:10:06.40 are all on demand via the internet and can be watched 00:10:06.43\00:10:10.34 on your smartphone and that's what we use now for 00:10:10.37\00:10:14.94 booking travel plans, ordering fast food, social media 00:10:15.01\00:10:19.88 and games and the thousands of apps that are available. 00:10:19.91\00:10:23.65 Where would we be in our fast- paced world without our 00:10:23.69\00:10:28.42 smart phones, they make life so much easier and 00:10:28.46\00:10:31.79 more interesting. And with all the benefits and pleasures 00:10:31.83\00:10:35.23 that our smart phones bring it's not surprising that the 00:10:35.26\00:10:38.70 average person spends between 3 to 5 hours on their phone 00:10:38.73\00:10:43.51 each day, and that doesn't include work related 00:10:43.54\00:10:47.38 smart phone use. So that's about a third of our 00:10:47.41\00:10:51.78 waking hours we spend on the phone. 00:10:51.81\00:10:54.48 In addition to our smartphones we're also watching other 00:10:54.52\00:10:59.19 screens like television, computers and tablets 00:10:59.22\00:11:02.42 this means that the average person is watching screens 00:11:02.46\00:11:06.43 for between 7 and 10 hours a day. 00:11:06.46\00:11:09.76 We're becoming more tightly integrated into the new 00:11:09.80\00:11:13.67 digital world and utilizing it in our daily activities. 00:11:13.70\00:11:17.47 We're truly living in a world of screens. 00:11:17.51\00:11:21.44 But screens come at a price, there's a dark side to our 00:11:21.48\00:11:26.92 immersion in the digital world and the increasing 00:11:26.95\00:11:30.12 use of screens. 00:11:30.15\00:11:32.15 With all the convenience and benefits comes a dangerous 00:11:32.19\00:11:35.72 downside. No matter how useful the mobile and screens might be 00:11:35.76\00:11:41.73 we cannot ignore the underlining negative effects 00:11:41.76\00:11:45.23 that they carry, here are just some of them. 00:11:45.27\00:11:47.84 Addiction, yes, mobile phone addiction is a real concern. 00:11:47.87\00:11:53.38 Today, research shows at least 50% of people admit to 00:11:53.41\00:11:58.98 addicted to their phones. 00:11:59.01\00:12:00.88 According to addiction experts our smart phones are making us 00:12:00.92\00:12:05.99 dopamine junkies with each swipe like tweet and notification 00:12:06.02\00:12:12.13 feeding our addiction. 00:12:12.16\00:12:14.26 In the 2020 Netflex Documentary The Social Dilemma 00:12:14.30\00:12:18.73 Dr. Lembke discussed that drug or addiction that is 00:12:18.77\00:12:23.10 social media. Dr Lembke emphasizes that we are now 00:12:23.14\00:12:28.11 all feel good addicts to a degree. 00:12:28.14\00:12:31.18 She even calls the smart phone the modern-day hypodermic 00:12:31.21\00:12:35.58 needle that we turn to for quick hits, seeking attention, 00:12:35.62\00:12:39.75 validation and distraction with each swipe, like and tweet. 00:12:39.79\00:12:45.06 Lembke also adds that since the turn of the millennia 00:12:45.09\00:12:50.00 there has been a huge rise in behavioral addictions our phones 00:12:50.03\00:12:53.84 as opposed to the substance addictions of the 20th century. 00:12:53.87\00:12:57.97 She says that we are seeing a huge explosion in the numbers 00:12:58.01\00:13:02.48 of people struggling with minor addictions. 00:13:02.51\00:13:05.71 Every spare second in our lives is now an opportunity to be 00:13:05.75\00:13:10.72 stimulated in the tic-toc vortex, scrolling Instagram, 00:13:10.75\00:13:14.92 checking up on Facebook and dare I say it, 00:13:14.96\00:13:19.13 swiping through Tinder or binging on porn, 00:13:19.16\00:13:22.36 online gambling and even e- shopping. 00:13:22.40\00:13:25.73 Now, there is so much more that could be said regarding 00:13:25.77\00:13:29.60 our phones and addictions, but let's move on to another 00:13:29.64\00:13:34.64 of the smartphone negatives. 00:13:34.68\00:13:36.54 And that's the increased use of screens among children 00:13:36.58\00:13:41.02 that has exploded over the past decade 00:13:41.05\00:13:43.65 both in school as an educational device and outside of school. 00:13:43.69\00:13:48.46 Between homework, social media, video games and YouTube video's 00:13:48.49\00:13:54.10 many children spend at least seven hours of screen time 00:13:54.13\00:13:57.97 daily out of school hours. 00:13:58.00\00:14:00.40 Although screens and digital technology can be useful 00:14:00.44\00:14:04.94 vehicles for information and can engage the learner 00:14:04.97\00:14:09.08 it's important to find a balance between screen time 00:14:09.11\00:14:12.78 and real-life interaction because everyone needs 00:14:12.81\00:14:16.79 relationships and screens don't provide that. 00:14:16.82\00:14:20.59 As children spend more time on screens, there are some 00:14:20.62\00:14:24.69 worrying concerns of children overdosing on screens. 00:14:24.73\00:14:28.66 Some of its disadvantages are that it can stifle 00:14:28.70\00:14:32.40 creative thinking that comes through tactile play, 00:14:32.43\00:14:35.90 and learning by touch. 00:14:35.94\00:14:37.34 It also interferes with a child's social development 00:14:37.37\00:14:41.04 direct academic performance, and changes behavior. 00:14:41.08\00:14:44.78 Leading pediatricians generally recommend the following 00:14:44.81\00:14:49.65 guidelines for screen time. 00:14:49.68\00:14:51.59 Under two years, 0 screen time, except for video chatting 00:14:51.62\00:14:57.19 with family and friends. Two to five-year-olds 00:14:57.23\00:15:00.73 no more than one hour per day of viewing. 00:15:00.76\00:15:04.53 And five to 17-year-olds, no more than two hours per day, 00:15:04.57\00:15:08.94 except for homework. 00:15:08.97\00:15:10.71 So, how do we become screen savvy for ourselves and 00:15:10.74\00:15:15.31 ourselves and for our children? We all want our children to be 00:15:15.34\00:15:19.08 healthy and to achieve so it's best to set clear limits 00:15:19.11\00:15:23.65 on screen time and establish screen-free home times 00:15:23.69\00:15:28.26 But most importantly, we as parents can be a good role model 00:15:28.29\00:15:33.16 on the appropriate use of screens. 00:15:33.19\00:15:35.70 Now, there's another issue that pops up regularly 00:15:35.73\00:15:39.77 in relation to smart phones. 00:15:39.80\00:15:41.60 And that's "waste of time." 00:15:41.64\00:15:44.34 Our smart phones can certainly waste our time. 00:15:44.37\00:15:49.34 Did you know that the average person checks their phone 00:15:49.38\00:15:52.65 once every 12 minutes? 00:15:52.68\00:15:54.85 That's about 80 times a day. According to researchers 00:15:54.88\00:15:59.12 the average adult spends between 3 and 5 hours a day on their 00:15:59.15\00:16:04.19 mobile phone. 00:16:04.23\00:16:05.56 That's around 35 hours a week and around 150 a month. 00:16:05.59\00:16:11.00 In addition is the gamey addiction that can waste 00:16:11.03\00:16:15.07 hours of time. 00:16:15.10\00:16:16.44 If you've ever played games on your mobile device 00:16:16.47\00:16:19.61 you may already understand how easy it can be to lose 00:16:19.64\00:16:23.71 track of time when you're solving fun puzzles, 00:16:23.75\00:16:26.92 slaying enemies or chasing after fictional characters 00:16:26.95\00:16:30.92 in a virtual reality setting. 00:16:30.95\00:16:33.05 The video gaming industry is worth over two hundred billion 00:16:33.09\00:16:37.83 dollars a year, and these games are now more accessible 00:16:37.86\00:16:41.40 more than ever, thanks to mobile devices. 00:16:41.43\00:16:44.03 And although there are some positives to video games 00:16:44.07\00:16:47.94 such as relaxation and hand eye coordination 00:16:47.97\00:16:52.47 there is also a flip side. 00:16:52.51\00:16:54.18 Where playing video games too often for more than 00:16:54.21\00:16:57.85 several hours can negatively impact a person's overall health 00:16:57.88\00:17:02.45 and livelihoods and lead to problems with finances, 00:17:02.48\00:17:06.15 education, social relationships, and addiction. 00:17:06.19\00:17:10.33 Many video games are designed to be addictive using 00:17:10.36\00:17:14.33 state of the art Behavioral Psychology to keep you hooked. 00:17:14.36\00:17:18.53 Games are immersive experiences that provides you with a 00:17:18.57\00:17:23.41 high amount of Dopamine and over-exposure to this level 00:17:23.44\00:17:28.04 of stimulation can cause structural changes to your 00:17:28.08\00:17:32.28 brain. Next, our smartphones can cause depression, anxiety, 00:17:32.31\00:17:38.02 and other mental disorders. 00:17:38.05\00:17:40.22 Social studies show that the overuse of mobile phones 00:17:40.26\00:17:44.39 and screens can lead to depression, especially among 00:17:44.43\00:17:48.53 teenagers. These young people are often on social media 00:17:48.56\00:17:52.13 and become obsessed with the number of likes on their 00:17:52.17\00:17:56.40 personal posts and accounts. 00:17:56.44\00:17:58.27 But, it is not just teens that are impacted, 00:17:58.31\00:18:01.58 70% of people spend more time on their phone 00:18:01.61\00:18:05.85 than with their spousal partner. 00:18:05.88\00:18:07.58 But interacting on the phone isn't the same as a real live 00:18:07.62\00:18:12.09 interaction or relationship. Increased screen use reduces 00:18:12.12\00:18:17.26 daily life interactions and can lead to loneliness, anxiety, 00:18:17.29\00:18:22.56 obesity, interrupted sleep, attention deficit order, 00:18:22.60\00:18:27.20 and mental illnesses. 00:18:27.24\00:18:29.04 Then there is distraction, screens are a huge distraction 00:18:29.07\00:18:35.68 we often decide to check up on our messages or our emails 00:18:35.71\00:18:40.35 and instead find ourselves surfing the internet for 00:18:40.38\00:18:44.95 hours on end without even realizing the time that has 00:18:44.99\00:18:48.96 passed. Then there is the resulting lack of focus 00:18:48.99\00:18:53.36 and brain fog, we sure can be easily distracted by our screens 00:18:53.40\00:18:58.90 and as we've seen, there are numerous other serious issues 00:18:58.93\00:19:03.54 for us to consider in relation to screens. 00:19:03.57\00:19:06.34 Studies show that as a society we're spending a lot of our time 00:19:06.37\00:19:12.28 on our smartphones, tablets, computers, video games, 00:19:12.31\00:19:16.95 and social media. Research also shows that when we spend too 00:19:16.99\00:19:22.36 much of our time on digital technology, our screens, 00:19:22.39\00:19:26.19 our health declines, our focus fades, and our lives 00:19:26.23\00:19:30.80 actually become less satisfactory to us. 00:19:30.83\00:19:33.80 But the reality is screens are here to stay. 00:19:33.84\00:19:38.81 So, we have to learn the best way to live with them 00:19:38.84\00:19:42.11 but not be controlled by them. 00:19:42.14\00:19:44.05 The challenge we face is how to stop screens from taking over 00:19:44.08\00:19:49.92 our lives, how to get balance into our lives. 00:19:49.95\00:19:53.76 How do we regain control over technology, our screens, 00:19:53.79\00:19:59.19 and our time? Well, it takes self-control and willpower 00:19:59.23\00:20:04.57 but deciding when to use technology and applying that 00:20:04.60\00:20:09.00 decision gives us back control and that's what Tiffany Shlaine 00:20:09.04\00:20:14.68 and her husband Ken Goldberg discovered several years ago. 00:20:14.71\00:20:18.08 Screens and technology were taking over their lives, 00:20:18.11\00:20:22.18 life had become a blur filled with deadlines, stress, and 00:20:22.22\00:20:26.52 anxiety. They were desperate to slow things down 00:20:26.55\00:20:30.86 and get balance back into their lives, 00:20:30.89\00:20:34.00 so, they decided to unplug for one day a week. 00:20:34.03\00:20:38.13 Every week, they set aside a day of rest or cessation 00:20:38.17\00:20:43.00 from the use of technology with the use of all screens 00:20:43.04\00:20:45.74 smartphones, personal computers, tablets, and 00:20:45.77\00:20:49.74 television. For one day a week they took a break from work 00:20:49.78\00:20:54.38 and avoided digital technology and it turned their lives 00:20:54.42\00:21:00.19 around. It reduced their stress and increased their 00:21:00.22\00:21:03.86 productivity. It brought new purpose and meaning into their 00:21:03.89\00:21:07.96 lives and renewed their body, mind, and soul, they found rest 00:21:08.00\00:21:12.77 and peace. They shared their experience with others and 00:21:12.80\00:21:16.74 started a movement called Tech Sabbath. 00:21:16.77\00:21:18.94 Thousands of people have taken a tech Sabbath or a digital 00:21:18.97\00:21:23.75 Sabbath and found rest and peace. 00:21:23.78\00:21:26.45 The term Sabbath is a beautiful term that means abstinence 00:21:26.48\00:21:32.69 from work in our digital age but the concept isn't new 00:21:32.72\00:21:37.59 in fact, it's been around for thousands of years. 00:21:37.63\00:21:41.50 You see, Sabbath is a Biblical term appearing throughout 00:21:41.53\00:21:46.17 the Bible and reaching right back to Creation. 00:21:46.20\00:21:50.27 God rested and introduced the Sabbath when He made the world. 00:21:50.31\00:21:55.41 The Bible says; 00:21:55.44\00:21:57.11 God knew that we needed a day off, and He planned for it 00:22:32.41\00:22:37.65 as far back as the creation of this world. 00:22:37.69\00:22:39.99 Rest is part of the divine design, the Sabbath was a 00:22:40.02\00:22:45.13 established by God after He made the world in six days. 00:22:45.16\00:22:48.96 He was the first one to celebrate it and declared the 00:22:49.00\00:22:54.07 Seventh day of each week a period of rest. 00:22:54.10\00:22:56.37 The Sabbath is God's plan to ensure we have a healthy, 00:22:56.40\00:23:00.64 balanced life. It's the perfect solution for our busy digital 00:23:00.68\00:23:06.58 world. And to help us remember that God placed this plan 00:23:06.61\00:23:11.69 for rest and optimum living right in the very heart 00:23:11.72\00:23:15.59 of the Ten Commandments, the ten principles He gave us 00:23:15.62\00:23:19.69 to live by. Here's what God said. 00:23:19.73\00:23:22.56 I find it fascinating that God placed a command to rest 00:23:48.52\00:23:53.06 in the heart of the Ten Commandments 00:23:53.09\00:23:55.40 along with other important laws such as, you shall not kill, 00:23:55.43\00:23:59.87 and you shall not steal. 00:23:59.90\00:24:01.70 Now, as this idea is familiar with the prohibitions against 00:24:01.74\00:24:06.57 killing and stealing, but has oddly forgotten the commandment 00:24:06.61\00:24:11.51 tells us to Rest, even though it's placed 00:24:11.55\00:24:14.75 right alongside the others. 00:24:14.78\00:24:17.12 God is telling us that having a day off each week 00:24:17.15\00:24:21.62 is just as important as any of those other commandments. 00:24:21.66\00:24:25.39 And not just any day off, but the Sabbath Day, 00:24:25.43\00:24:29.66 the seventh day of each week. 00:24:29.70\00:24:32.07 Now, let me tell you, I can get behind and support a commandment 00:24:32.10\00:24:37.34 that tells me to have a day off each week, 00:24:37.37\00:24:40.41 What a great idea, and it's a great idea because 00:24:40.44\00:24:44.88 It's God's idea, and He knows what's best for us. 00:24:44.91\00:24:49.05 As we've seen, our world is getting increasingly busy, 00:24:49.08\00:24:54.49 the pace of life has picked up, we're being overwhelmed 00:24:54.52\00:24:58.36 by digital technology, humans need a day of rest every week. 00:24:58.39\00:25:03.47 Getting that day of rest provides such health benefits 00:25:03.50\00:25:07.74 as reducing stress and decreasing the chance of obesity 00:25:07.77\00:25:12.57 and heart disease. Resting increases productivity 00:25:12.61\00:25:17.55 because it enables people to work at peak efficiency. 00:25:17.58\00:25:21.82 Jesus said; 00:25:21.85\00:25:24.09 It's God's gift to us, a day of rest. 00:25:28.12\00:25:32.33 From the very beginning, we needed that day of rest, 00:25:32.36\00:25:36.60 the seventh day of the week is God's sacred Sabbath 00:25:36.63\00:25:41.14 created just for you, a 24-hour oasis in time from 00:25:41.17\00:25:46.61 sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, where God asks us to 00:25:46.64\00:25:52.11 press the pause button of our busy work lives to take a break 00:25:52.15\00:25:57.29 and have a rest. 00:25:57.32\00:25:58.95 God tells us to rest. He tells us to rest by going to Him. 00:25:58.99\00:26:05.66 You see, the Sabbath is more than just a day off, 00:26:05.69\00:26:09.80 It's a special day to spend with our friend and Savior 00:26:09.83\00:26:13.97 Jesus Christ, who's given us so many gifts. 00:26:14.00\00:26:18.14 If you'd like to know more about God's remedy for the 00:26:18.17\00:26:22.94 stresses and challenges of our modern world. 00:26:22.98\00:26:25.91 Then I'd like to recommend the free gift we have 00:26:25.95\00:26:29.22 for all our Incredible Journey viewers today. 00:26:29.25\00:26:32.75 It's the popular booklet, Experiencing God's Peace. 00:26:32.79\00:26:37.19 It provides simple and surprising ways to help you 00:26:37.23\00:26:41.60 deal with the demands and pressures of life. 00:26:41.63\00:26:44.07 This booklet is our gift to you and is absolutely free. 00:26:44.10\00:26:47.90 I guarantee there are no costs or obligations whatsoever. 00:26:47.94\00:26:52.44 So, make the most of this wonderful opportunity 00:26:52.47\00:26:55.74 to receive the gift we have for you today. 00:26:55.78\00:26:59.01 Phone or text 0436.333.555 in Australia or 020.422.2042 00:26:59.05\00:27:10.36 in New Zealand, or 770.800.0266 in the United States. 00:27:10.39\00:27:17.17 Or visit our website tij.tv, or simply scan the QR Code 00:27:17.20\00:27:23.30 on your screen and we'll send you today's free offer 00:27:23.34\00:27:26.74 totally free of charge and with no obligation. 00:27:26.78\00:27:29.94 You can also write to us at the addresses on your screen, 00:27:29.98\00:27:33.35 or email us at info@tij.tv, don't delay, call or text us 00:27:33.38\00:27:40.89 now.
